One of the first fragrances i ever purchased was azzaro pour homme(1978)-i really loved the anise accord in that one,however times have now changed for me(fragrance wise)and i am now looking to buy my second azzaro fragrance.I have opted for either-chrome(1996),or visit(2003)-i am willing to buy either of these fragrances blind,because from words of wisdom past on to me from fellow basenoters i have bought blind several fragrances and have so far been totally pleased.Which one of these azzaro fragrances should i opt for? Many thanks.

I've never tried Visit, but I own and wear and enjoy Chrome. Don't expect it to be anything like Azzaro PH! It's more like CK one for grown-ups, fresher, less sweet, less floral with a distinct and very pleasant metallic note that smells to me like freshly polished... chrome! And it projects everywhere and lasts forever.  

Chrome : clean and soapy Visit : spicy and woody I prefer Visit.  

I've worn both. I owned Visit at one time and liked it a lot; however, the longevity wasn't that good for a spicy/woody/incense scent. Chrome is a good, well-crafted "clean" scent with a megaton of longevity, but here in the States it's very popular: the market share stats show it as #5 on the US men's sales charts, up there with AdG, Polo Blue, and D&G Light Blue Pour Homme (and where original Azzaro PH doesn't sell very well anymore). Not sure about the UK. You can't go wrong either way.  

I own and love APH (the only time I've ever liked anise). I also have Chrome and Visit, and don't care for either one. It's not that they are bad fragrances, they just aren't great like their older brother. They both, as far as I can recall, smelled like many other fresh/crisp department store scents out there now.

Another Visit fan here. Chrome is great but it's everywhere and there's a lot out there that smells like it. Visit is warm, woody with incense. It's very comforting and lasts on me. BTW, I too, own APH. Still like it a lot but don't reach for it that often. No doubt, a classic and a must-own. RM  

both are such fabulous scents...very hard to choose. sirslarty has decribed them right, you should go with either one of it depending on your taste... if you want something more in lines of Azzaro Ph then Visit should be your choice, chrome is just a blast of freshness wtih amazing staying power. i love both of em..

None for me, thanks! I've owned all of these and they just don't work for me. Azzaro must not be my house...

I've never smelled Visit. But Chrome was what I wrote back in high school along with Jovan Musk. I recently picked up Azzaro pH and loved it. I also got my old Chrome bottle back recently and it's still as good as ever. I wouldn't describe it as fresh and clean - I would say more professional and cold.

Fortunately, he doesn’t mind trying a new cologne every day, and I love him for that! He gets to enjoy my perfume experiments just as much. Anyway, when you comb through my expert review of each cologne in the Chrome collection, you need to consider a few factors from your view:

Azzaro Chrome EDT

Azzaro Chrome EDT is an aquatic, woody, and citrus fragrance designed to make you think of a time you enjoyed the beach with your dad on a father and son vacation. The citrus accord bubbles before you get woody and aromatic elements, and the fresh spiciness is otherworldly.

• Pineapple Leaf

I admit that when I get my first whiff of this every time I try it, it’s a little bit sour and it kind of makes my nose curl. However, that dissipates very quickly and we’re left with a very aromatic and unusual head composed of aromatic rosemary leaves, fruity bergamot, zesty lemon, and pineapple leaf.

While I’ve heard people refer it to as the pineapple itself, I feel it to be more herbaceous and I would liken it to the leaf rather than the fruit.

Heart Notes

Shortly afterwards, you will get a floral heart, which has an oakmoss and coriander accord. The coriander’s spiciness and the oakmoss’ fresh moistness contrast nicely. Meanwhile, there’s a little bit of neroli and jasmine, which produces a citrus influence that is played against the floral bouquet.

Towards, the end of the heart, a hint of rosewood reveals itself and helps the fragrance transition towards the base.

The rosewood is quite fragrant and is accompanied by crisp cedarwood. Gourmand tonka bean adds an alluring element while labdanum provides musky substances. Personally, I’m not overly enamoured by the base. I find it to be a little bit soapy, fatty, and somewhat aldehydic, but it is pleasant nonetheless.

Chrome’s Life-Cycle, Wake & Strength

With regards to the performance, I found that the sillage was probably the most effective property of its overall strength. It leaves a nice trail behind the wearer.

Meanwhile, the projection is very tight. You’d have to wear a lot of it, and by then it’d be overwhelming if anyone got close, or you’d have to expect people to come a little bit close to you, and then they’ll be able to appreciate some of this fragrance.

And finally, the longevity is quite short. Expect about four or five hours of wear before needing to top it back up.

What People Think Of Azzaro Chrome

In terms of third party feedback, this was an interesting fragrance to read about. Generally speaking, people find it quite pleasant and inoffensive. It’s clean, fresh, very soapy, and some people have compared it to stepping out of the shower.

Somebody noted that it reminds him of a summer’s day in an English garden. However, I imagine that would be probably when it’s not raining! Overall, I wouldn’t say that Chrome has aged much. It’s still quite relevant today.

It tended to be more popular among men and women in their thirties and above. I wouldn’t say that younger people were put off by it. They found it to be overall quite inoffensive but didn’t they find it to be particularly alluring either.

When To Wear Azzaro Chrome

Needless to say, the seasonality of this fragrance is very much on the hot weather side. In fact, this is an excellent fragrance for the summertime. I’d say it’d be better for the summer rather than spring as it’s fresher and lacks the warmer tones that you’d want when it’s still slightly cool.

As for our impressions of this fragrance, which refers to our usage thoughts, as mentioned earlier, Chrome would be more popular for people in their thirties or above. Indeed, as a very zesty, fresh, youthful fragrance, I think it’s best for men in their thirties.

It’s definitely a daytime fragrance that you would want to wear when the sun is up. And it is certainly a casual office fragrance. I wouldn’t really wear this for a date or a formal occasion.

Finally, the masculinity is moderate, slightly mild, and certainly not strong or overbearingly virile.

Presentation & Value For Money

The bottle is very nice with a sleek, elegant shape. It has a square front with a curved side. I’m fond of the cap’s machine-finish aesthetic, which covers an excellent atomizer that produces a very thin mist that isn’t too widespread either.

As for the packaging, it’s okay. It has a blue square at the centre that mimics the cap’s top. It’s not particularly eye-catching. It would certainly make a decent gift, but it doesn’t really scream its identity.

Finally, it offers plenty of value. On Fragrance X , a variety of sizes are sold for just $21! However, it’s surprisingly limited on Amazon and you can only buy the largest bottles for around $70. That being said, all the flankers are available at much lower prices.

Closing Thoughts

Azzaro Chrome is a very cool, refreshing scent that’s inoffensive and ideal for a hot summer’s day. Indeed, it’s versatile, understated, and great for a casual, professional man who’s looking for an affordable signature scent.

However, it does lack in identity and that certain “wow” factor that you may want in a fragrance. Nevertheless, it’s a firm four-star rating with 76 out of 100 using the Fragrance Formula above.

Nautica Voyage vs Azzaro Chrome

For this edition of the head to head fragrance comparisons, we are going to be taking a closer look at two inexpensive and popular options for men: Azzaro Chrome vs. Nautica Voyage. Which of these two best sellers, is the better buy? Which smells better? Has the top performance? I have tested and reviewed both and will break it down below.

Azzaro Chrome

Azzaro Chrome opens up with lemon and pineapple, this citrus blend, is fresh and pretty sharp. With that, is jasmine and neroli, and the second one is quite prominent up top. Chrome is a bright with an aquatic sort of aroma, despite there not being any oceanic notes.

Combined,  it is all pretty familiar and yet unique. It does get compared to CK One , but it does have a distinct aroma. Yes, vaguely metallic, at times.

Voyage starts off with crisp apple with mimosa and plenty of musk. It’s got a ‘green’ aroma with aquatic undertones and the muskiness. Voyage is clean with a watery scent.

Which is better? I’m going with Chrome, as the citrus/floral/aquatic composition, is much better at the start than is Voyage. The Nautica can be too much of a mess at first, and can take time, to settle.

Edge: Chrome

Chrome starts off pretty strong for me, it can be really bold, right out of the bottle. Later on, it is much more of a moderate scent. Voyage, is basically moderate, right out of the bottle. It’s pretty consistent, but lighter than Chrome is.

Nautica Voyage delivers 5-7 hours of wear, on my skin. It’s been the same result, over the years, time and time again. Not getting more than that. Azzaro Chrome will go for 7-8 hours, which outclasses its competitor, on most occasions.

Neither of these have ever been super performers for me. However, they’ve always been above average and can provide great value.

Versatility

Both fragrances have good versatility. Neither is a nighttime scent, however. Chrome would probably fair better for office wear versus Voyage. Other than that, there’s not too much separation here. Both can be worn year round and serve as an inexpensive daily wear.

Edge: Chrome (slightly)

Overall Scent

Is it a clean sweep for Chrome? Yes.

While I like Nautica Voyage, it’s not a really ‘great’ cologne, just a great cheap cologne. It has a nice overall aroma, but to me, never smells as good as Chrome does. It doesn’t have the same performance level, either. But for less than $20? Having a bottle, isn’t a bad idea.

Chrome, on the other hand, features a great citrus/floral formula with underlying aquatic notes and a ‘metallic’ edge. It’s such a simple wear, but one which, gets plenty of complements and has the performance to last a workday.

Its dry down, becomes woodier, with hints of musk, and the citrus notes still sitting on top. The price at retail is usually pretty high, but every so often Chrome seems to get marked down dramatically at secondary sellers.

That $35-50 range is pretty standard, but I’ve seen bottles go for under $30 too. Basically, the price difference isn’t as large as it may seem. The Azzaro actually hovers much closer to the Nautica range than it first appears.

Chrome is wonderful in its niche and has been doing it for decades now. It wins this match up with ease.
