Contiki and We are Social unveil ‘Switch On Social Travel’ challenge

Amy Shapiro

Ben Clare: “Travel is more enriching when you live in the moment, not just capture it.”

Social travel brand Contiki  has partnered with socially-led creative agency We Are Social Australia for its latest campaign, Switch on Social Travel.

The social-first initiative took a group of 17 creators from the US and Australia aged 18-35, representing a combined following of 20 million users, for a seven day trip through Portugal and Spain.

The campaign encouraged them to disconnect from their platforms for the duration of the trip, to immerse themselves in their travel experiences. After reconnecting online, the creators shared their experiences with their followings.

Meanwhile, Contiki’s channels provided fans with sneak peeks of the trip through video content, documented through over 30,000 photos and 40 hours of footage, which were edited into short and long-form videos.

In additional to being pulished published across Contiki and the influencers’ channels, the campaign roll out has been further broadcast across Instagram Reels, YouTube, TikTok, and other digital platforms.

Melissa DaSilva , Contiki’s North America president, said that the campaign was aimed at “ inspiring travellers to truly engage with the world around them.

“This campaign redefines the conventional use of social media in the tourism industry. It’s about inspiring the audience to rediscover the real essence of travel – connections made, cultures explored, and memories created away from the digital gaze.”

Executive creative director at We Are Social, Ben Clare , explained that “for younger generations, never before has the pressure to immortalise a holiday or experience into a flawless social media post been so great. But doing so ironically detracts from the joy of travel and being fully present in the moment.

“It’s obviously pretty unconventional to engage travel influencers in a way that actually reduces their time online, but so far it’s proven to be a powerful message: travel is more enriching when you live in the moment, not just capture it.”

Earlier this year, We Are Social managed the social strategy and execution behind Mastercard’s Australian-first motion picture without pictures,  Touch,  which  premiered at the Westpac OpenAir cinemas in February. In March, the agency teamed up with Wayside Chapel to launch a behaviour change campaign, Social60 .

How to Find Clients as a Travel Agent

Cressida Sergeant

By Cressida Sergeant

Travel Agent Clients

As a travel agent, acquiring new customers is crucial for your success. Since each customer can only take a limited number of vacations per year, expanding your customer base is essential. Despite some challenges, there are effective methods available to help you grow your clientele.

Maintaining a Website

Your website stands as a potent tool to engage potential clients effectively. As a travel agent, you may have expertise in specific destinations such as the Caribbean, Europe, or Australia. Ensure your website features captivating imagery from these locations to spark excitement about the travel possibilities.

A well-crafted website has multiple marketing objectives

Define Your Services

While social media and email marketing introduce your persona, your website is the hub for potential clients to explore your offerings. Clearly articulate the range of services you provide, detailing the modes of travel you cover and your professional credentials. Pricing variations can be excluded, as they fluctuate seasonally. Instead, focus on illustrating the value and benefits of your services.

Create Tailored Landing Pages

Tailored landing pages enhance customer conversion rates by offering specific information aligned with individual interests. You can create multiple landing pages, each targeting a distinct audience segment or promoting unique travel destinations and special offers. Incorporating videos on these pages can significantly boost conversion rates, encouraging trust and confidence in your offerings.

Effective landing pages also feature compelling calls to action, guiding visitors towards the next steps in their journey.

Generate Leads

Establish a newsletter to disseminate travel tips, upcoming specials, and other valuable content. Encourage lead generation on your website by providing a simple form for visitors to submit their email addresses in a clear position on the page. This facilitates continual growth of your mailing list, strengthening the effectiveness of your email marketing campaigns.

Integration and Consistency

Use various marketing tools to maximise potential. While these tools offer considerable potential, consistent effort is required to realise results. By implementing these tactics diligently and maintaining a comprehensive marketing plan, you’ll attract more clients and sustain steady growth over time.

Remember to maintain regular content updates to sustain momentum and ensure consistent visibility to potential clients. Consistency is paramount in establishing a steady influx of new customers.

Stay Engaged on Social Media

Maintaining an active presence across various social media platforms is essential for reaching and engaging your target audience effectively. Consider the demographics of your desired clientele to determine the most suitable platforms, whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn. Ensure active participation on at least two platforms to establish your brand identity and help the promotion of your services and travel offerings.

On social media, you can use diverse strategies such as regular posts, encouraging shares, hosting contests, and using paid advertising to boost visibility and engagement.

To streamline your social media efforts and manage time effectively, consider these tips:

  • Establish a consistent posting schedule.
  • Capture photos during your travels to have a steady stream of content to share.
  • Follow other travel accounts for inspiration and ideas.
  • Consider hiring a social media manager to handle your accounts.
  • Use social media scheduling tools to automate your posts.

Increased activity on social media enhances your chances of building a substantial following. It’s also crucial to establish relevant hashtags, particularly if you’re active on Instagram. Create hashtags specific to your business as well as those related to the content you’re sharing.

Also, ensure that your social media content isn’t solely promotional. Instead of solely promoting vacation packages, offer valuable tips and insights. Provide helpful information on packing essentials, visa requirements for different countries, and other helpful content. By delivering valuable content, you’ll attract followers who appreciate your expertise and are more likely to engage with and share your posts. Consequently, when they’re ready to book their next holiday, they’ll turn to you as their trusted travel agent.

Establishing an Effective Email Marketing Strategy

Email remains one of the most potent marketing tools available, with the U.S. alone investing over $350 million in email advertising in 2019. By compiling a mailing list of past customers, contest entrants, and leads generated from your website, you can build a substantial audience for your promotional efforts.

Using reputable email marketing tools allows you to create professional templates and schedule regular communications with your audience.

Consider sharing the following content:

  • Useful travel tips
  • Captivating destination photos
  • Details of upcoming specials

Writing well-written emails enriched with appealing visuals such as photos and videos can capture recipients’ attention effectively. It’s crucial to design an eye-catching header to attract recipients to engage with your email content. Failure to captivate them from the outset may result in your email being relegated to the dreaded ‘Deleted’ folder. Conducting A/B testing can provide valuable insightsinto what resonates best with your audience, allowing you to refine your email marketing strategy for optimal results.

How to find clients as a home-based travel agent

Travel Agent Clients

As a home-based travel agent, building a robust client base is crucial for the success of your business. Using various strategies and platforms can help you attract clients and establish yourself as a trusted travel professional. As well as the points we have already raised, you can also consider the below.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Optimize your website with relevant keywords and quality content to improve your visibility on search engines. This will help potential clients find you when they search for travel services online.

Word of Mouth

Encourage satisfied clients to refer their friends and family to your travel agency. Positive word of mouth can be a powerful tool for attracting new clients and expanding your customer base. Also consider a trusted reviews platform so that your satisfied customers can share their experiences with potential clients. There is nothing more people like to see than a firsthand experience, just look at trip advisor!

Attend Trade Shows

Participate in travel industry trade shows and events to network with potential clients and industry professionals. Showcase your expertise and offerings to attract clients and establish partnerships.

Lead Generation

Implement lead generation strategies such as offering free travel consultations or downloadable guides on your website. Capture visitor information and follow up with targeted marketing campaigns to convert leads into clients.

Build relationships with other travel agents, suppliers, and affiliates within the industry. Networking can open doors to new opportunities and referrals from fellow professionals. For example, a travel agent specializing in cruises but has a customer interested in a flight to Europe can pass on the customers they cannot serve.

Provide Exceptional Service

Deliver exceptional customer service to your clients to earn their trust and loyalty. Positive experiences will lead to repeat business and referrals, helping you grow your client base organically.

Maximizing Client Acquisition and Retention for Travel Agents

As you can tell, there are many ways to find clients as a travel agent, the key takeaways should be that if you take care of your brand visibility, make your website as appealing to both customers and search engines and include helpful information as well as deals and offers, you will have a good base to work with. Build your network by connecting with other agents and travel professionals and encourage positive word of mouth from your current clients in the form of reviews. If you make it easy for customers to find you and provide a great service every time, you will ensure you are not only bringing in new business but also retaining your customer base. Use travel technology to ensure that your processes are smooth and that anything which can be automated is so that you can concentrate on providing that exceptional service.

How to Become a Travel Agent and Work From Home

Do you love to travel? Are you a master at finding great travel deals?

Becoming a virtual travel agent might be your ideal work at home career path!

Working as a travel agent might seem a little outdated in today's world of Kayak and Airbnb, but in reality, many people still prefer to work with travel agents.

Experienced travel planners help travelers save money, time, and travel-related headaches.

Home-based travel agents generally work for a host agency (a company bonded and accredited by the Airlines Reporting Corporation or the International Airlines Travel Agents Network) as independent contractors.

As a travel agent, you'll earn a commission on the travel arrangements (flights, hotels, rental cars, travel excursions , and more) you book, and you'll often have access to special deals and travel discounts. You can choose to work in a particular niche, such as cruises or business travel, or work with clients looking into a specific type of travel (adventure, Disney vacations, eco-friendly, budget, or luxury travel).

One of the great things about becoming a work at home travel agent is that it's a relatively easy startup business idea, and the costs are low. With a basic home office (including an internet connection, a phone, computer, printer, and website), you can get started with a host agency.

So if you love to travel or if you love to help other people fulfill their vacation dreams, you may want to start a home-based travel agent business!

What Skills Do You Need to Be a Travel Agent?

The basic skills you'll need as a travel agent include attention to detail, excellent research and communication skills, high-level organizational skills, and a knowledge of geography and travel destinations. You'll also need to be tech-savvy and have a solid understanding of programs like Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

If you're working as an independent contractor, the host company will usually train you; some host agencies charge a fee, while others do not. While there are travel agent certificate programs that you can take, you may be able to break into a travel role if you have customer service, hospitality, marketing, or sales experience under your belt.

Getting Started as a Work at Home Travel Agent

According to Host Agency Reviews, travel agents with three years of experience make an average of $46,400 per year . However, there are some travel agents making six figures per year. It all depends on your experience, the number of clients you retain, hours worked, and commission and support from your host agency.

Agents who work in specific markets or on particular vacation types (like destination weddings or luxury travel) can become very familiar with their market and, thus, enjoy even greater success. Working in particular markets, like weddings or corporate travel, can also make a big difference regarding salary.

Remote Travel Agent and Consultant Jobs

If starting your own business seems intimidating, many companies within the travel and hospitality industry hire at-home travel consultants, reservationists, and planners for full-time and part-time positions. Best of all, many of these positions come with travel perks!

To start, you may want to explore:

  • American Express
  • Kemp Travel Group
  • Vail Resorts
  • Working Solutions
  • World Travel Holdings

Exploring Host Agencies

Finding a good host agency is key to getting started as an at-home travel agent. If you're just starting, you'll want to familiarize yourself with host agency options to get a feel for what each can offer.

  • American Society of Travel Advisors
  • Cruise Planners
  • Disney Vacation Planner
  • Dream Vacations Advisors
  • Dugan's Travel

How to Select a Great Host Agency

When it comes to what they offer their consultants, travel agencies vary significantly. There are many factors to consider besides who offers the best commission.

For example, do you prefer a large agency or a small agency? Locally-based hosting can be easier for new agents who might need extensive support and training. On the other hand, national agencies may offer more flexibility and growth.

Carefully weigh your agency options and perform background research. Sites like Host Agency Reviews and Find a Host Travel Agency can help. They offer tips and ratings for finding the best travel agency that fits your needs.

Perks of Becoming a Travel Agent

Aside from being a fun business opportunity, being a travel agent offers some amazing perks .

If you enjoy travel, you might enjoy taking "FAM trips" or "familiarization trips" to various locales. Cruise lines, hotels, and tour guides know the best way for you to sell their services is for you to try them firsthand. So they offer perks, including complementary and deeply discounted fares, as well as opportunities to use their services and explore all your amazing options.

You can also save big on your own travel with great discounts! You'll score awesome deals before anyone else even hears about them. As a travel agent, you'll have access to discounts because, of course, the more you travel, the more business experience you rack up.

The best part? You can deduct those travel expenses from your taxes as part of your business! You can also deduct things like advertising and expenses related to your clients. This amounts to big tax savings for you!

Other Ways to Make Money in the Travel Industry

If you love the idea of working and traveling, but you're unsure about becoming a travel agent or consultant, there are many other options available.

Traveling to another country as an Au Pair is a great option if you enjoy working with children. When you work as an Au Pair, you'll live with a family, helping them with household chores and childcare. In return, you'll get free room and board and a small stipend that you can use on your days off. Being an Au Pair allows you to experience life in another country for an extended period of time. Becoming an Au Pair does come with some fees you'll need to pay, such as your flights, travel visa, and insurance.

Customer Service Representative

Customer service is an excellent way to break into the travel industry and work from home! Many companies provide full training for these roles as well as a host of benefits. You can work for airlines, hotels, cruise lines, travel booking sites, and other travel-related sites and industries. For these work from home positions, you'll generally need your own device (laptop or computer) and a high-speed internet connection. Check out this article for a list of hospitality companies that hire remote customer service reps.

ESL Teacher

You've probably heard of being an online ESL tutor , but did you know you can travel to another country to teach English as a second language? Most countries require ESL teachers to have a bachelor's degree and a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate. Like being an Au Pair, there will be fees for your flights, travel visa, and insurance. Depending on which host company you use and which country to travel to, your housing may be free or purchased at a reduced cost. How much you can earn will vary as well. For more information on traveling and making money as an ESL tutor, check out the resources below.

  • EF (Education First)
  • International TEFL Academy

Local Coordinator

If you enjoy working with high school and college students, consider becoming a local coordinator . In these independent contracting roles, you'll work with educational organizations and programs to place and mentor students interested in foreign exchange programs. These part-time positions are a flexible and easy way to make extra money from home. Some programs also offer incentive trips and perks for their local coordinators.

Social Media Marketer Specializing in Travel

Do you love to travel and you're looking for ways to earn money from home, there are plenty of opportunities to take your travel beyond Instagram snaps and shares on Facebook… but if you're really great at social media, you could also become a social media manager in the travel industry! Many of these positions allow you to work from home for a travel-based company, sharing posts and connecting with their customers.

If you prefer to create your own schedule and be your own boss, become a local tour guide! With this idea, you'll need to be in the know about the food, culture, and history of the area you're helping tourists explore. With apps like  Showaround  and  Viator , you can create your tour, book customers, and make money from your travel expertise. You can also look at local tour operators and see if they have any openings for tour guides. Explore this article for more tips on making money as a tour guide .

Travel Writer

Magazines, guidebooks, and websites are often looking for freelance travel writers to contribute their experiences and give readers recommendations. If you have writing and communication skills and you travel often, this might be an excellent option for you.

The income for travel writers varies greatly, but many writers make great money by documenting and sharing their travels. Travel writers, according to ZipRecruiter , earn an average of $24 per hour. I think these numbers sound high, but I wasn't able to find any other stats for how much travel writers really earn.

Travel Blogger

If you prefer to write and document your own travels, start a travel blog ! With blogging, you can make money with affiliate marketing, ad networks, sponsorships, product sales, and more! The great thing about blogging is it's affordable and easy to set up, and there are many free ways to promote your content through social media. My friend, Julie Bonner, has a travel blog where she documents her family's RV travels. In one year, she was able to generate $5,000 a month from her blog, all while traveling the United States and Canada.

Travel Influencer

Have you been documenting your travels on social media? Then make money while traveling the world as a social media travel influencer. Whether your specialty is Instagram , Pinterest, TikTok , or YouTube , you can earn good money through paid sponsorships, advertising, and affiliate marketing. Besides building an engaged audience of followers, you'll need to become skilled at taking photos and videos, editing, and writing captions. How much you can earn as a travel influencer will depend on how many followers you have, your reach, your engagement, and which platforms you're using. According to this article in Vogue , a travel influencer with 1-4 million followers can earn $31,000 per post!

Travel Nurse

If you're a registered nurse , you can sign up to become a travel nurse. These nurses travel to areas where there are nursing shortages in work in a wide variety of settings. Nurses typically work in one location for 13-16 weeks, then move on to another location. Not only is travel nursing a great way to see the country, but it's also lucrative. The average travel nurse can earn $59.66 per hour plus housing stipends. If you're interested in travel nursing, check out these sites for assignments.

If you have a passion for travel, there are many ways you can earn money working in the travel industry. From becoming a work at home travel agent to finding ways to document and share your own travel experiences—there's an opportunity for every traveler out there. Explore your options and pack your suitcase! Check out this post if you're looking for ways to make money while you travel the world!

The times I've had to reach out to the team they've been SO nice and helped right away!"

"I cannot recommend them enough. I have learned so much through them, their Weekly Chat, Monthly All Call, their private FB page, and University. It's also they are connected with Travel Leaders, you have much better training and resources. Best Host Travel Agency of 2021 | HAR's Luminary Awards!

In the good old days of 2019, before the term "social distance" was even a twinkle in our eye, the Host Agency Reviews crew got really existential during a team meeting one day and asked, "Who is the best Host Agency?"

This is a question HAR set out to answer in 2019 . Lo and behold, now HARs Luminary Awards, which recognize the best host agencies out there, have become a time-honored tradition that carries into 2021.

You may be thinking, "it's impossible to say who is the best host agency! There cannot be just one!" And you're right. It's impossible. There are different hosts for different folks. There's so many great hosts out there, that we can't choose just one.

Which hosts made the list in 2021? Are there any new hosts on the scene this year? Are there any repeat hosts? Read on and we'll reveal the identity of these stellar hosts, shining their light on our 2021 HAR Luminary Awards! 🤩

And if you're someone that prefers hearing about the best host agencies in 2021 via video instead of reading, grab your popcorn and join us for our Luminary Awards ceremony on YouTube:

We Changed Our Best Host Agency Criteria in 2021.

The truth is there isn't a single best host travel agency in 2021—or any year, really—because there's a lot of subjective things you need to consider when making your decision. Do you like the company culture, do the reviews on the profile speak highly of the technology or tools that are important to you, and now that we mention it, what exactly is important to you?

We created the HAR Luminary Awards as a way to recognize companies we feel deserve recognition for their transparency and engagement on the site.

We're obsessed with finding the best host agency, so this year we made a two critical changes:

1. We added more size categories for host agencies

To keep our awards democratic, this year we added a few more host categories to acknowledge the different sizes of agencies. Some winners have two ICs, some have 2,000 (or more!). ANY host listed on our site can qualify. (Yes that's right, free listings can qualify!)

With our old criteria, we found it was more difficult for boutique hosts to hit our thresholds. We didn't want to leave anyone out, so now we have five size categories instead of only three. (You can see our size categories and requirements here .)

2. we added a new award! 🤩

In past year's we've offered four awards to recognize the best host agencies:

  • The Nebula Award: Recognizing hosts with the most new reviews
  • The Constellation Award: Recognizing hosts who engage with readers on their profiles)
  • The Supernova Award: Recognizing hosts with 4+ star ratings
  • The Data Scientist Award: Recognizing hosts who participate in helping us create leading industry data for travel agent income and travel agent fees .

But you know, we're an ambitious bunch. We were fiddling with the data and thought, you know what would be really cool? If we added an award that recognizes hosts who sweep in all categories! I'd like to introduce you to:

The Best Host Agency: 2021 Galaxy Award

Did we accept bribes for this award? Heck no! In fact, we kept this award a secret until JUST NOW. (Not even the host agencies . . . not even the winner! We're iron-clad with our secrets over here at HAR 🤐.

We're extremely excited for inaugural Galaxy Award Winner! To make things even more exciting ONLY ONE HOST WON OUR GALAXY AWARD 😮!!!! Which, of course, we'll save for last (a no-brainer).

The Best Host Travel Agency Award Categories

Now, onto our award categories! HAR Luminary Awards recognize hosts in four different ways:

  • Supernova Award : Recognizes the hosts that received at least one new review the previous year and have an average star rating of 4+
  • Nebula Award: Recognizes the hosts with a certain number of new reviews
  • Constellation Award: Recognizes the host agencies that engage with readers on their Host Agency Reviews' profile (responding to questions and reviews)
  • Data Scientist Award: Recognizes the host agencies with the most participation in our surveys.
  • The Galaxy Award!!!!: Recognizes hosts who received an award in every other category! (Psst! There's only one winner this year!!!)

Note: All the award data is from the host's aggregate info of the previous year (2020). To keep things super democratic, we're not going to separate them by host size (just in old school ABC order)

Is the suspense unbearable?! I know! Me too! Who are the best host agencies in 2021?!? Here they are in each category, listed in alphabetical order.

HAR Top Host Agency Supernova Award Badge

The 2021 Host Agency Reviews Supernova Award Winners

Sometimes a star gets so big and so bright that it's about to explode. That sums up our supernova awards. Its criteria recognizes the best host agencies in 2019 that have a 4.0 or higher average star rating, and have received at least one new review the previous year. Here are the hosts that burned brightly!

HAR Top Host Agency Nebula Award Badge

The 2021 Host Agency Reviews Nebula Award Winners

What is that faraway cloud of light brightening in the distance? They are the best host agencies of all sizes that have accumulated the most new reviews .

Who are these hosts attracting the attention of new travel agent ICs? Drumroll please . . .

HAR Top Host Agency Constellation Award Badge

The 2021 Host Agency Reviews Constellation Award Winners

Sure. Stars are bright and fun when they fly solo, but they're a lot more interesting to look at when they gather in groups and hangout in the sky in the shape of a horse, dog, or a mythical Greek hunter with a fancy belt and bow and arrows. The HAR Constellation Award is for best travel host agencies who engage on their profiles . They answer your questions. They respond to your reviews. They want you to be as informed as possible!

HAR Top Host Agency Data Scientist Award Badge

The 2021 Host Agency Reviews Data Scientist Award Winners

We like data A LOT. You probably know by now that we proudly consider ourselves nerds, geeks, data-dorks, eggheads, dweebs . . . you get the idea. Every year we publish delectable data through our income survey and fee survey .

But guess what?! That great data doesn't come from thin air. Not even close. We partner with host agencies and franchises, who do a lot of legwork in reaching out to their ICs to participate! The Data Scientist award recognizes the best host travel agencies and franchises who make these sometimes-Herculean efforts so our data is all the more stunning in our infographics. Who are these hosts this year?

The 2021 Host Agency Reviews Galaxy Award Winner is . . .

We got so excited about 2021, that we decided to make a brand spanking new Luminary Award. I'd like to introduce you to: The Galaxy Award!

As its name may suggest, The Galaxy Award, is for hosts who've gone the extra mile and received an award in EVERY category. I got excited so excited about our new award category that I decided to reveal the Galaxy Award winner with a video.

That's right. This year, only one host agency received the award.

Drumroll please . . . 🥁

HUGE congrats to KHM Travel Group for receiving our first-ever Galaxy Award! And thank you to all our Luminary Award winners for your industry engagement on our site and (more importantly) beyond! 🎉

See Past Luminary Award Winners!

This isn't our first rodeo! You can find past Luminary Award winners here:

  • 2020 Luminary Awards
  • 2019 Luminary Awards

That's a Wrap (for Now)

*High five* to all the best travel host agencies and franchises in 2021 that were recognized with Host Agency Reviews' industry awards!! We know they'll keep shining on, providing stellar (get it, stellar ) resources and support to burgeoning and established agents alike.

And stay tuned for next January to see which hosts will return to claim their prize, and which one will be newbies on the HAR award circuit!

You Want to Win a 2022 Luminary Award? Here's how!

So you're chomping at the bit to win a Luminary Award? This year, we expanded the host size categories to make sure Luminary Awards were an even playing field regardless of a host's size! (Previously we had 3 categories, now we have 5.)

With the exception of the Suprernova award (which awards a high average star rating), we tally up our data from the previous year to determine our award winners. Here's the deets:

  • Supernova Criteria: All hosts must have a 4+ star rating and at least one new review from the previous year. Additionally: XS (≤24 ICs) hosts need ≥2 total reviews; Small hosts (≤24 IC 25-99 ICs) need ≥7 total reviews; Medium hosts (100-499 ICs) need ≥12 total reviews, Large hosts (500-999) need ≥50 total reviews; and XL (1,000+ ICs) need ≥100 total reviews.
  • Nebula Criteria : Nebula rewards hosts for new reviews: XS (≤24 ICs) hosts need ≥1 new review; Small hosts (≤24 IC 25-99 ICs) need ≥3 new reviews; Medium hosts (100-499 ICs) need ≥5 new reviews, Large hosts (500-999) need ≥10 new reviews; and XL (1,000+ ICs) need ≥15 new reviews.
  • Constellation Criteria: This award tracks a host's number of interactions (via onsite Q&A) and/or responses to reviews. The number of interactions to receive an award are: XS (≤24 ICs) hosts need ≥1 interaction(s); Small hosts (≤24 IC 25-99 ICs) need ≥3 interactions; Medium hosts (100-499 ICs) need ≥5 interactions; Large hosts (500-999) need ≥10 interactions; and XL (1,000+ ICs) need ≥15 interactions
  • Data Scientist Criteria: This award is for the number of host's ICs who take our surveys. The number of respondents needed are: XS (≤24 ICs) hosts need ≥2 respondents; Small hosts (≤24 IC 25-99 ICs) need ≥7 respondents; Medium hosts (100-499 ICs) need ≥12 respondents; Large hosts (500-999) need ≥50 respondents; and XL (1,000+ ICs) need ≥100 interactions.
  • Galaxy Criteria: I like to refer to Galaxy Award winners as "the sweepers." These are the hosts who've won an award in every other category.

7 Expert Tips: Effective Local SEO Tactics for Travel Agents

local seo - travel agents

Table of Contents

Imagine a world where potential clients searching for the perfect vacation stumble upon your travel agency, not your competitor’s, down the street. In today’s digital age, that world exists, and the key to unlocking it lies in a local SEO expert for Travel.

According to a study by BrightLocal, 88% of clients who search for a local commercial enterprise on their smartphone end up calling or traveling to that commercial enterprise within a day. This statistic underlines the important position local SEO plays in attracting clients for travel agents. But with so many facts swirling around, where do you even begin?

Fear not, travel agents!

Here are 7 local tactics to help you navigate the digital maze and emerge victorious with local SEO expert for travel :

1. Claim and Conquer Your Google My Business Listing: Your Digital Shopfront

Your Google My Business (GMB) list is your essential piece of online real estate. Claiming and optimising it ensures your travelling firm appears in relevant Google searches, complete with vital information like contact details, reviews, and pics.

  • Complete Your Profile Thoroughly: Fill out all sections of your GMB list, including your enterprise name, deal with, cell phone number, website URL, and working hours. Accuracy is essential here!
  • Showcase Your Expertise: Upload quality images that showcase your office space, crew, individuals, and the forms of locations you specialise in.
  • Embrace the Power of Reviews: Encourage happy customers to leave superb opinions on your GMB list. Respond to all reviews, both positive and negative, demonstrating your dedication to customer support.

2. Speak the Language of Local Travellers: Target Location-Specific Keywords

When potential clients search for travel services, they’re likely using keywords that include their location. Optimising your website and online presence for these location-specific keywords increases your chances of ranking higher in local searches.

  • Research is Key: Use keyword research tools to become aware of relevant keywords that include your town, vicinity, or specific travel niches (e.g., “family holidays in Alaska” or “luxurious cruises from Hawaii”).
  • Integrate Keywords Naturally: Incorporate your prime vital phrases organically at some point in your website content, together with page titles, meta descriptions, and service descriptions. Refrain from resorting to keyword stuffing, though, as this can negatively impact your ranking.

3. Get Listed in the Right Places: Build Powerful Citations

Citations are online mentions of your travel organisation’s name, address, and phone number(NAP) throughout various directories and websites. Building a solid network of citations improves your local SEO rating and online visibility.

  • Target Relevant Directories: Focus on travel-specific directories, local business listings, and general business directories with high domain authority.
  • Consistency is Crucial: Ensure your NAP information is consistent across all listings. Even minor discrepancies can harm your SEO performance.
  • Claim Existing Listings: Many online directories already have listings for businesses; you just need to claim them. Search for your agency and claim any existing listings to ensure you have control over the information displayed.

4. Become a Local Travel Guru: Run Engaging Local Content

Showcase your expertise and establish yourself as a trusted resource for potential clients by creating informative and engaging content focused on local travel.

  • Embrace Blog Power: Create blog posts highlighting local attractions, unique travel experiences in your region, or travel tips relevant to your target audience.
  • Leverage the Power of Video: Craft engaging motion pictures showcasing the beauty of your vicinity, interviewing local travel publications, or providing vacation spot overviews.
  • Optimise for Local Search: Incorporate relevant area-specific vital keywords in your content and optimise titles and meta descriptions for local searches.

5. Connect and Engage: Embrace the Power of Social Media

Social media platforms provide a superb possibility to connect with potential customers, exhibit your travel services, and construct a local online community.

  • Target the Right Platforms: Focus on platforms famous among your audience, which includes Instagram for visually attractive locations or Facebook for tour deals and updates.
  • Post Regularly and Engage: Create enticing content, put it up frequently, and remember to engage with your followers. Respond to comments and messages directly, demonstrating your responsiveness.
  • Partner with Local Influencers: Collaborate with local travel bloggers or influencers to reach a much wider target audience and promote your journey enterprise.

6. Mobile Optimization is Key: Ensure a Seamless User Experience on the Go

In today’s digital age, most tourists are trying to find travel agents on their mobile devices. A website that needs to be mobile-friendly can significantly avert your efforts by hire SEO expert for travel.

  • Responsive Website: Make sure your website is responsive and adapts seamlessly to extraordinary screen sizes.
  • Accurate Details: Ensure all your contact details, such as phone number and electronic mail address, are readily available on cell devices.
  • Optimise Speed: Optimise the loading speed of your website for cellular browsing– no one wants to wait for a sluggish website on their restrained data plan.

7. Embrace the Power of Online Reviews: Customer Testimonials are Gold

Positive online reviews are like gold for a local SEO business. They build trust and encourage potential clients to choose your travel agency .

  • Encourage Reviews: Ask satisfied clients to leave reviews on your GMB listing, website, and social media pages. Make the process easy by including a link or providing clear instructions.
  • Respond to All Reviews: Take the time to respond to all reviews, even negative ones. Thank reviewers for their feedback and promptly address any concerns.
  • Showcase Reviews: Feature positive reviews prominently on your website and social media pages to build trust with potential clients.

By enforcing these crucial local SEO tactics, you may rework your travel agency’s online visibility. However, the arena of SEO is continuously evolving. Reach out to relevant websites for guest posting opportunities, offering valuable content for their audience. Finally, participate in online travel communities, build relationships, and provide valuable insights to earn organic links.

SEO in tourism is the practice of optimizing travel websites to rank higher in search engine results for keywords related to locations and travel experience. This involves techniques like keyword research, content creation centered on user purpose, and constructing backlinks from official travel websites. By enhancing SEO, tourism businesses can appeal to more significant qualified website visitors, convert visitors into bookings, and raise their online presence in the travel industry.

The cost of an SEO expert varies enormously, depending on factors like place, experience, project scope, and whether you lease a freelancer or company. Generally, expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $200 per hour for search engine marketing offerings. Monthly retainers typically range from $1,000 to $10,000 or more. It’s essential to define your SEO goals and price range before contacting potential search engine marketing specialists to get a correct estimate.

There are several ways to drive traffic to your travel website! SEO is a crucial strategy involving keyword research and content creation to rank higher in searches. Social media marketing can also be powerful, promoting your content and engaging potential travelers. Consider online advertising platforms to target specific demographics searching for travel deals. Finally, partnerships with travel bloggers or influencers can expose your website to a broader audience.

Absolutely! Local SEO is essential for companies targeting clients in a specific place. Ranking well in local searches drives more foot visitors and website visits from customers who are actively searching for your products or services. It’s a cost-effective way to reach a focused target audience and raise your local enterprise.

Local SEO is vital for small companies as it allows them to target clients in the right region. By optimizing their online presence for nearby search terms, small corporations can boost their visibility to enable customers to look for services or products nearby actively. This centered technique drives certified leads and increases website traffic from people who want to convert, allowing small companies to compete with more giant corporations online.

The Travel Agency Opens Its Third Cannabis Retail Location On Fifth Avenue In New York City

The Travel Agency: A Cannabis Store, one of New York's premier cannabis retailers, makes history with its third store opening at 587 Fifth Avenue, May 8, 2024. It will be the first dispensary in the Big Apple's famous shopping district.

On Wednesday, May 8th, The Travel Agency: A Cannabis Store will make history as the first cannabis retailer in New York State to open a third branded and licensed dispensary. Known as The Travel Agency Fifth Avenue, the new location will also be the inaugural store of its kind in the heart of New York’s most famous shopping district, between the Manhattan icons of Rockefeller Center and Grand Central Terminal, a prime destination for entertainment, fashion, and tourism.

The Travel Agency And Terrapin Greens LLC Partner To Launch The Travel Agency Fifth Avenue

The Travel Agency’s founders, Arana Hankin-Biggers and Paul Yau, announced the latest development from their premier retail brand. For the new store, continuing their commitment to supporting community and social equity in the cannabis industry, The Travel Agency is partnering with CAURD licensee Chris T. Concannon, the founder of Terrapin Greens LLC. Concannon, the founder and owner of a successful family business in the financial printing sector, has operated his non-cannabis entity since 1996. His path to cannabis licensure reflects the transformative power of legalization; he was arrested for cannabis possession in his early twenties and later became a serial entrepreneur.

“It’s an incredible honor for us to partner and bring legal adult-use cannabis to one of the most iconic blocks in New York City,” Hankin-Biggers exclaims. “We are equally proud that across our three branded dispensaries we have been able to employ more than 200 people, providing good paying jobs, benefits, and opportunities for advancement in this exciting, burgeoning industry.”

Concannon says, “The Travel Agency Fifth Avenue will be inclusive to all, including New Yorkers who frequent the area, but also to tourists visiting the greatest city on Earth. Whether you’re a cannabis enthusiast, or it’s your first encounter with the plant, we want our customers to know that they will have a personalized experience that caters to their needs. Being located on the most iconic shopping corridor, we hope to further destigmatize the consumption of cannabis, while communicating to the world that cannabis can be synonymous with luxury.”

Where Is The Travel Agency Fifth Avenue Located In New York City?

Centrally located at 587 Fifth Avenue between 47th and 48th Streets, the new store is next door to H&M’s flagship and across the street from Sephora, easily accessible via subway stations including Grand Central Terminal and the 47th-50th Rockefeller Center station. Designed by award-winning firm Leong Leong, the 3,300-square-foot immersive space will transport customers to a far-off destination by simply walking through the door.

New Yorkers can expect the same premium experience and personalized service that Concannon describes and that has made The Travel Agency’s dispensaries favorites among the state’s licensed retailers. Standout elements include superior and captivating design, the best curated selection of top-quality cannabis products covering all categories from local and national brands, and the state’s most knowledgeable budtenders.

“Our vision for The Travel Agency is to deliver a unique and elevated cannabis experience to New Yorkers, and through our partnerships with CAURD licensees we’ve also been able to deliver on this promise at scale and support social equity,” co-founder Paul Yau shares.

What Makes The Travel Agency One Of New York's Most Successful Cannabis Retailers?

Since launching in February 2023, The Travel Agency branded dispensaries have enjoyed great success as destinations for consumers from the canna-curious to seasoned connoisseurs alike. High points from the retailer’s incredible first year include winning three Clio Cannabis Awards for retail , brand design , and public relations and featuring in national outlets from the New York Times to ABC News. The dispensary has also hosted multiple celebrity shoppers and guest budtenders such as acclaimed actress and writer Amy Sedaris . Noted cannabis advocate and comedian Sarah Silverman memorably brought The Daily Show to film a segment at the store during her hosting stint.

The Travel Agency Fifth Avenue opens on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 9AM. Visitors will be welcome seven days a week during operating hours, 9AM-11PM (Sunday to Thursday) and 9AM to midnight (Friday and Saturday). Payments can be made via credit, debit, and cash. Consumers can conveniently place orders through the store’s website, thetravelagency.co , or in person at 587 Fifth Avenue.

Cobra, Scorpion, Spider Venom and other Illicit Horse Performance Enhancers Seized by Cincinnati CBP

CINCINNATI– Since January 1, 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Cincinnati have seized eight shipments containing equine performance enhancing drugs. The packages arrived from Mexico and were destined to multiple individuals throughout the U.S., some with nexus to racing or other horse performance venues.

venom

CBP worked with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to locate the eight shipments, which included injectables labelled as cobra venom, Spidermorph, Scorpioadrenalin, unapproved medications such as TB-1000 , caffeine, anabolic steroids, unknown vitamin compounds, Ritalin, and ketamine.

“Kentucky is known as the horse capital of the world,” said Cincinnati Port Director Alrick Brooks, “and the equine industry is a prominent part of the U.S. agricultural economy. CBP is committed to protecting this industry and the animals within it by preventing illicit substances such as these—designed to mask pain or artificially enhance an animal’s legitimate physical capabilities—from coming into the country.”

Some of the medications were made using protected animal species, leading to wildlife trafficking and conservation concerns. “The FWS inspectors at the Port of Cincinnati, in partnership with CBP, continue to produce excellent results in impacting the illegal wildlife trade,” said Louisville Supervisory Wildlife Inspector Denise Larison. “Wildlife trafficking remains a significant threat to thousands of animal and plant species around globe. Thanks to this great partnership, we were once again able to prevent the unlawful import of protected species and disrupt the illegal market for these valuable animals.”

CBP seized the shipments at the request of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) given the medications were not in compliance with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and were in violation of multiple FDA regulations.

“The FDA is always concerned about the illegal importation of injectable, unapproved medications which may pose a significant risk to public health, and can include drugs for animals.” said Assistant Commissioner for Import Operations Dan Solis. “This shows working collaboratively with CBP and other federal partners helps prevent potentially dangerous medical products from entering the U.S.”

The abuse of snake venom and other performance enhancers within the equine industry has been the subject of previous federal investigations and indictments leading to sentences from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“CBP is entrusted with enforcing hundreds of laws for more than 40 other government agencies,” said Chicago Director of Field Operations LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke. “We are delighted to work with our counterparts within the FDA and FWS to ensure these illicit and dangerous drugs can no longer be used for nefarious purposes.”

CBP conducts operations at ports of entry and export throughout the United States, and regularly screens inbound and outbound international passengers and cargo for narcotics, weapons, and other restricted or prohibited products. CBP strives to serve as the premier law enforcement agency enhancing the nation’s safety, security, and prosperity through collaboration, innovation, and integration.
