How to Spot a Fake or Counterfeit Christian Dior Handbag

Christian Dior Handbag

Christian Dior bags are a stylish and sophisticated way to carry your daily essentials. They feature unique details and a classic silhouette. There are several ways to spot a fake or counterfeit Christian Dior handbag. Here are some tips: Look for the Authenticity card, Made in Italy or Spain, Dior jacquard pattern on the lining, leather date tag, and more.

Authenticity card

If you’ve bought a Christian Dior handbag, then you’ve probably noticed that it comes with an Authenticity Card. The Authenticity Card contains a number of vital details, such as the date, store, and factory of manufacture. It’s also a helpful tool for ensuring that your purchase is authentic.

When buying a Dior bag, it’s essential to ask for an authenticity card. The card will be a white rectangular sheet with spaces for your information. The information should be handwritten and be accompanied by the style number. Preloved bags won’t usually include this card, however. This is because the booklet doesn’t guarantee the authenticity of the bag.

In addition to the Authenticity card, the interior of a Dior handbag will have the Christian Dior PARIS logo, identification of the country of origin, and a date code. These details will help you recognize a genuine Dior handbag from a fake one. In addition, the authenticity card will have two small spaces on it, as opposed to the two large rectangular spaces on a fake one.

All authentic Dior bags will also have a leather date tag inside. This tag has a heat-stamped number on the back and is located inside the bag. A recent Dior bag should also have a top stitch that is a different color than the border. The serial number is also on the back of the tag.

You can always check the authenticity of your Dior bag by contacting a reputable retailer. Look for a company that offers a lifetime guarantee. It’s also a good idea to read reviews and customer feedback before purchasing a Dior bag.

Made in Italy or Spain

If you want to ensure that your new bag is real, you need to check whether the logo is stamped. The Christian Dior logo is stamped in gold or silver. You can also check the lettering. Ideally, the letters should be embossed. If not, the bag may be fake.

Most of the Dior bags are made in Italy, while some are made in Spain. The inside of your bag will usually contain the style number and date of manufacture. A new Dior bag will also have an interior leather tag. A vintage one will not have a leather tag, but it should have a gold or silver stamping and the words Made in France.

If you are not sure, look at the back of the bag. It should have two or three lines of gold or silver printing. It should also have the word “PARIS” in all capitals. Sometimes, a third line may appear below the word “PARIS.” Also, some bags will have a “made in” stamp on the back side of the tag. If this is the case, make sure the label is perfectly centered.

If you have a genuine Dior bag, it will come with an authenticity card that has been signed by a Dior employee. It should also contain an identification card or tag with a serial number. It should also contain the name of the boutique you bought it from and the style number. If your bag does not come with one of these, then it is probably a fake.

While most of the Christian Dior bags are made in Italy or a Spanish factory, there is a small factory in Chartres, France. In addition to this, Dior also manufactures their shoes and sandals in Italy and Spain. The company also manufactures Dior fragrances and skincare products.

Cannage or Dior jacquard pattern on the lining

Genuine Dior handbags are characterized by the two-layered leather and distinctive hardware. The original fittings are heavy and have an engraving of the designer’s name. In contrast, fakes are made with one-piece leather.

One of Dior’s most recognisable patterns is the quilted cannage. It is a detail taken from Napoleon III style chairs, which the designer used to seat guests during fashion shows. The design also includes the number eight. Lady Dior bags feature this pattern in a puffy finish to make them more comfortable to carry.

Genuine Dior bags will come with an authenticity card. These cards should be white and contain spaces for filling in handwritten information. The card should also contain the date of purchase, location of purchase, and style number. Although most pre-loved bags do not come with a booklet, the authenticity card is the best way to confirm the authenticity of your bag.

Another sign of authenticity is a pattern on the lining. A genuine Dior bag will have a cannage or Dior jacquard pattern in the lining. This pattern was inspired by the canework on Napoleon III chairs, which Dior displayed in a 1947 runway show. The pattern should be symmetrical and centered on the front. It may not match the edge of the bag, but this is not a sign of inauthenticity.

Lady Dior handbags are incredibly versatile. A modern Lady Dior bag features a removable shoulder strap, which allows women to carry the bag without their hands. The smaller Lady Dior bags are more compact but have enough room for essentials. For those who prefer a simpler bag, the Mini is a great option.

Leather date tag

Dior bags are equipped with a leather date tag on the inside. The date code is a unique number and letter combination, and it is used to identify when the bag was made. The letters represent the production plant, while the number is for the month and year it was manufactured. Typically, the tag is stitched all the way around.

Look for two or three lines of printing on the leather date tag. The letters should be gold or silver. The lettering should be clean and legible. If it is not, the bag may be a fake. A genuine Dior bag’s “made in” stamp will be centered and rounded.

The leather date tag on a Christian Dior bag is a useful piece of information. It lets buyers know that they are dealing with an authentic Dior item. It can be decoded to reveal more information about the bag. For instance, if the Lady Dior bag is made in December 2008 in Italy, the date code will be 00-XX-0000.

The authentic leather date tag should have a gold or silver stamp that is well centered on the leather tag. The lettering should be legible and clearly legible. The authentic leather tag will be made of a contrasting colour from the original. A fake tag will have an embossed texture or super glossy letters that make it difficult to read.

In addition to the leather date tag, the Dior logo should be embroidered and not printed. If the letters are not embroidered, the bag is likely a fake. The lining and strap should be the same color as the bag. The zipper pull should be strong.

Limited stockists

If you’re a true lover of Dior bags, you’ll probably want to buy one directly from the brand itself. However, if you’re on a budget, you can always consider buying used. Some websites offer curated collections of pre-owned Christian Dior bags. Others, like Vestiaire Collective, sell vintage Dior bags. While purchasing pre-owned Dior bags can save you money, you’ll need to be wary of counterfeits.

To determine whether a bag is authentic, look for the heat-stamped logo and serial number, as well as the words “Made in Italy” or “Made in Spain.” A genuine Dior bag will have a rigid handle and immaculate stitching. One of the most coveted Dior bags is the iconic Lady Dior. This black leather handbag has a quilted cannage design that was inspired by the opulent chairs of Napoleon III. Made in Italy, this classic style features a top zip closure, a zipped pocket with the brand’s signature letters, and gold-tone hardware.

Dior Authentication: An Ultimate Guide to Christian Dior Date Codes

Whether you’re getting a preloved Dior handbag or selling your Dior item, Dior date codes is something you’ll have to deal with to verify authenticity. In this article we’ll share what’s a Dior date code, where to find it and how to read it.

Why Do Dior Date Codes Exist?

Dior introduced Date codes generally for the company’s purposes to fight the most common problem for the luxury brands: counterfeiting. As Dior handbags became popular, the company had to deal with billions of counterfeited items and find a way how to ‘mark’ authentic items.

We don’t know when exactly Dior introduced date codes on the leather tags. However, various sources mention that the fashion house first used a date code around 1997.

What would be the typical ways to confirm that this is a piece made by a specific person? Painters used signatures. Porcelain manufacturers used stamps. Other leather items’ manufacturers also use stamps and special fonts.

Dior is no exclusion. They invented a ‘date code’, a sequence of digits and letters hidden inside the purse. Some people also call them ‘serial numbers’, while in fact they represent information on where and when an item was made.

Employees also use date codes to define the age of the item (to see if it’s still under the manufacturer’s guarantee) as well as authenticate an item whenever it’s brought for repairs.

All in all, using a Dior date code you can define whether an item is authentic as well the item’s age.

By the way, another important aspect to consider when it comes to the authenticity is leather. We have compiled   a comprehensive guide on Dior leathers   - check it out!

What Do Dior Date Codes Look Like?

Dior date codes are not just random digits and letters. The date code on a Dior purse or wallet is a combination of digits, letters and dashes organized in a way that lets us know important information about a Dior item. Here's the order on newer items :

christian dior serial number date code 02-MA-1051

On   vintage Dior handbags , the order is slightly different. The letters and digits are separated by a space and the date code is shorter (it doesn't have the first two digits) :

dior date code CA0977

Sometimes there are be variations to these rules. For instance, this is an authentic Dior date code with 3 letters and 4 digits:

dior daate code BC c 1004 3 letters

Read more in our most counterfeited Dior bag codes guide.

Where Are Dior Date Codes Located?

Not sure where to find a Dior date code? Let’s find out. We have mentioned in   our Dior Guide   that each Dior handbag has a leather tag inside with a heat stamp that says ‘Christian Dior PARIS made in italy’. The tag generally has slightly rounded corners.

CHRISTIAN DIOR HOW TO READ DATE CODES HEAT STAMPS

On the opposite side of this tag there’s a sequence of digits and letters. That's the Dior date code!

How to Read Dior Date Codes?

how to read dior date codes/serial numbers

As Dior is part of the LVMH family, the rules their date codes use are pretty close to the rules used by Louis Vuitton date codes:

  • In a Dior date code, the letters indicate country of production. MA is Italy, MC is Spain etc.
  • Last 4 digits indicate the month and the year when the bag was made. The first and third number indicate the month of manufacturing, the second and fourth number indicate the year.

In the example above, 06-MA-1019 means the bag was made in November of  2009 in Italy.

Where are Dior handbags made?

Dior has been manufacturing handbags for a while now. Generally, a handbag may be manufactured in the following countries: Italy, Spain, or France. There are also vintage handbags that have a 'PARIS, NEW YORK' inscription.

Are Christian Dior handbags made in France?

Yes. All Dior handbags that were made in France are vintage handbags without serial numbers. The production country is often indicated on a gold-tone metallic plate inside/outside the handbag.

are dior handbags made in france metallic goldtone plate

'Made in France' can also be stamped into leather. It looks like a regular Christian Dior stamp with the exception of the date code.

are dior handbags made in france leather tag 1980 1989 leather tag no serial

Are Dior handbags made in Spain?

Yes, Spain is also a legit manufacturing country for all Christian Dior handbags. Please keep in mind that most of these handbags are vintage and manufactured in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Here's How You Can Tell If A Dior Bag Is Fake

Dior Saddlebag

Some people buy stocks, others buy jewelry. Then there are those who consider the best handbags to be solid investments.  Elle  considers some Dior bags to be on the list of accessories you won't regret investing in, because they are considered classics, and have significant resale value. Of course, you'll want to make sure your Dior is the real thing.

Being able to spot a fake Dior depends on your ability to pay attention to detail. How can you tell? Firstly, all Dior purses have a heat stamp with the Christian Dior logo on one side, and the serial number on the other. The lettering should be centered, and clean, in either silver or gold (via Love that Bag Etc ). You will see "Made in Italy" or "Made in Spain" written underneath. But there's more to look for when sniffing out a fake Dior.

Dior handbags cannot be made of inferior materials

Another way to spot a fake Dior bag is to check the stitching, which needs to be small, even, and done with a thin thread in the exact color of the material it is sewn into. You'll find these qualities in the Lady Dior, whose iconic cannage quilting is not easily replicated, particularly by amateur counterfeiters (via The Real Real ).

Dior bags have to be worthy of carrying the name of its design house. To that end, nothing about the purse will be of cheap, or inferior quality, from its leather to its hardware, some of which will be embossed with "CD" or "Christian Dior" (via The 2nd Hand Guide ). In the case of the Lady Dior, expect its lettered D, I, and R charms to sit in front of a large letter O. The rings on the chains attached to each letter are left to swing about loosely.

Many designers, like Christian Dior, are taking extra steps to ensure their designs are not copied by counterfeiters, but they are fighting a global industry which The Global Brand Counterfeiting Report 2018 estimates will be worth $1.82 trillion by the end of this year. Because counterfeiters keep getting better at their game, it's wise to consult an expert to authenticate something you may want to purchase, so you don't become a counterfeit victim yourself, especially since even the most reputable pre-loved sales sites online are struggling to tell between what's real and what's not (via Forbes ).

How To Spot Fake Dior Caro Bag

To authenticate the iconic Dior Caro bag start by observing the overall look to get the most details at once. Then, check the bag on the backside to see if the quilting is accurate. Do not forget to check the logo from the front and the back. Finally, finish up your authentication process by checking the hardware and the label.

Dior Caro Bag Authentication: The Overall Look Method

Counterfeiting this exquisite design is not an easy task, that is why so many differences can be found on the counterfeit bag.

The very first thing that should be pointed out is the thickness of the flap: while the authentic one creates curvy corners on top edges, the counterfeit ones are much sharper because of the thinner flap that does not create the same full and curvier look.

Another difference is the handle attachments that are tiny in the left picture but much bigger on the fake Dior bag: having measurements wrong is a big red flag when it comes to luxurious bags.

Fake Dior Caro Bag: The Back Side Method

Now let's turn our Dior Caro to look at its backside.

The very first thing that pops out the moment we look at these comparison pictures is the quilting: stitches that create diamond shapes on the surface are super symmetrical, tight, and neat in the left picture whereas the sewing on the counterfeit model is sloppy and asymmetrical giving the overall quilting a weird look. (You can find the same issue with the Chanel Wallet too) What is even weirder is how flat the diamond shapes are in the right picture when they need to be as embossed as they are on the authentic model.

Another difference that we spot here is the shape of the numbers and letters: for example, the number 30 is thin, defined, and narrow in the left picture whereas they appear much thicker, faded, and wider on the fake Dior.

How To Legit Check Dior Caro Bag: The Logo Method

We love the iconic Christian Dior logo that is almost impossible to get replicated flawlessly.

The very first difference that should be pointed out is the thickness and width of the fake logo: letters on the authentic CD logo are bigger but narrower and well-defined whereas they are smaller but much wider, and thicker on the counterfeit bag. (logo issues are commonly found in the Louis Vuitton Mini Dauphine counterfeit bags too)

The shape is not the only wrong thing but the color too: the fake logo is much yellower than it is supposed to be.

How To Legit Check Dior Caro Bag

How To Spot Fake Dior Caro Bag: The Flap Interior Method

If we take a look at the open flap we will notice how the differences in logos were not only from the outside,

The original CD is much curvier with tiny screws on the sides that blend in well with the rest of the logo whereas the sides of the fake letters are less curvy and the screws are much bigger with the sloppier look.

The center part of the fake logo is also much thicker and wider than it was supposed to be whereas the original one is smaller with more definition.

they processed my request super fast! they needed more photos and they were specific on the kind of photo.highly recommended site! will definitely use their service again. thank you so much!

My vintage Gucci bag didn’t have a serial number making it impossible for the average person to know if it was genuine. So happy for the outcome of my genuine handbag. Thanks again.

Dior Caro Bag Real Vs Fake: The Hardware Method

This tiny hardware rectangle on the handle of a bag needs to be observed closely too.

Letters on the authentic piece are thick, placed close to one another, and golden whereas they do not even have the same engraved look in the right picture as the letters are thinner, narrower, and black.

The shape of the rectangle is different too: the outline on the fake piece is much thicker than it is supposed to be and also the corners have to be much softer just as they are in the left picture.

Dior Caro Bag Real Vs Fake

Real Vs Fake Dior Caro Bag: The Label Method

The final step we will be using for our Dior Caro authentication is the label method.

The authentic label is nice and big enough for all lettering lines to fit perfectly and symmetrically. The authentic label is smaller with asymmetrical stitching that does not replicate the sewing in the left picture.

Letters are also much paler and less defined on the counterfeit label.

Are your eclipse glasses safe? How to know they'll really protect your eyes during today's total solar eclipse

By Kerry Breen

Edited By Allison Elyse Gualtieri , Alex Sundby

Updated on: April 8, 2024 / 12:11 PM EDT / CBS News

The 2024 total solar eclipse is today — and if you're hoping to get a glimpse of the phenomenon, it's best to make sure that you have real, working eclipse glasses that can protect your eyes .

Here's what to know about eclipse glasses and how to check that they are safe to use.

Are solar eclipse glasses safe to view the total solar eclipse with?

Solar eclipse glasses can be used to safely view a total solar eclipse , but it's important to make sure they're of the right quality. Don't use sunglasses, smoked glass, an unfiltered telescope and magnifiers or polarized filters as a way to view the eclipse.

The only glasses that should be used to look at a partially eclipsed sun is with eclipse glasses that meet an international standard, ISO 12312-2, according to the American Optometric Association.

That international safety standard, which is set by the International Organization for Standardization , means the glasses reduce visible sunlight to a safe level, and block ultraviolet and infrared radiation, according to the  American Astronomical Society  website. According to the ISO, the safety standard is reviewed every five years.

Blocking that radiation is important. Ultraviolet, or UV, radiation can damage the cells of the eyes, while the infrared, or IR, radiation can generate heat that causes thermal damage, according to the National Eye Institute .

How to make sure the eclipse glasses you bought are real

Real eclipse glasses will have a note about the international standard somewhere on their body, according to the American Astronomical Society. Before buying, make sure the glasses are advertised as meeting this standard.

If you already bought the glasses, check the arm for the the "ISO 12312-2" label. The standard may also be written as "ISO 12312-2:2015," the AAS says on its website. Either designation means that the glasses will block light and radiation.

The label may be on the flat or curved part of the arm.

snapshot-43.jpg

NASA has also released guidance on how to test your eclipse glasses. The space agency recommends putting on your glasses and finding a bright light. If the light appears extremely dim, or doesn't appear at all, when you look at it through the glasses, they are legitimate. You should only be able to see the filament of the bulb, not its glow.

How to avoid buying fake solar eclipse glasses

Checking for the international standard isn't foolproof: It's possible for sellers with products who do not meet the standard to label their eyewear with it anyway. To avoid this, make sure you're ordering glasses from a reliable source.

The American Astronomical Society advises against ordering from Amazon, Temu or other online marketplaces, and recommends against ordering if prices seem to be too good to be true. The AAS also said it's best to purchase from manufacturers based in the United States. CBS News previously reported that counterfeit glasses have been sold by companies based overseas.

The organization maintains a list of reputable vendors of solar eclipse glasses. CBS News previously reported that NASA supports the  American Astronomical Society 's work, though the space agency does not maintain its own list of vendors.

The ISO, the body that established the international standard for eclipse glasses, also sells them on its website.

Why it's important to double-check older solar eclipse glasses

If you're reusing glasses from a previous solar eclipse, it's important to double-check that they are still in good condition. NASA warns against using glasses that have any marks or scratches on them. This damage can diminish the protection they offer. Glasses that have punctured lenses should also not be used.

Glasses that are more than three years old should not be used to view the 2024 total solar eclipse, according to the National Eye Institute — so if you saved your glasses from the 2017 eclipse, you may want to think about finding a new pair.

How to make sure your homemade eclipse viewing tool is safe

If you're not buying glasses, it is possible to make an indirect viewing method for viewing the eclipse at home. An indirect viewing method means that you don't look directly at the sun so your eyes remain protected even without eyewear.

NASA recommends making a pinhole projector, which uses a small opening like a hole punched in an index card, to project an image of the sun onto a nearby surface. When using a pinhole projector, keep the sun at your back and view the projected image to safely see the eclipse. However, to do this safely, it's important to make sure to avoid actually looking at the sun itself.

How safe is Moscow for tourists?

dior safari bag legit check

Moscow is an enormous city. 12 million people live here and many others commute in from the Moscow Region for work each day. And although there is no particular danger for either tourists or locals, it is, as in any big city, always worth using common sense. We'll tell you how to avoid running into trouble and which areas you might want to avoid.

Is the city center safe?

dior safari bag legit check

“I was shocked to see people using their laptops in parks in the evening,” says Nicholas Font from Argentina, who visited Moscow in May. “Of course, I was careful with my belongings, but I wasn't afraid of wearing my bag in the city center.”

The city center (and it is a very big city center) is generally convenient and safe for walking around. Pedestrians enjoy wide sidewalks and relatively calm road traffic. There are tourist police (who speak English), not to mention the ordinary police. Of course, there is never any guarantee that you won’t encounter a thief, and so to stay on the safe side keep your documents and money in places that are inaccessible to others. Red Square, Nikolskaya Street and Arbat are the most touristy places, so it’s worth being a little more aware of pickpockets in these areas.

Remember that in Moscow the police can stop you to check your ID. But unless you have committed some kind of crime there is generally nothing to worry about: You just need to show your passport and visa. "I was asked to show my passport and visa three times. Once in St. Petersburg and twice in Moscow," says our reader Ghazali Khan from Dubai. "Police in Russia are polite and professional. Most of them don’t speak English, but they understand your gestures."

Can you walk around at night?

dior safari bag legit check

Have you heard the expression "Moscow never sleeps?" Well, this is very true. The city center is buzzing 24 hours a day, and even on the outskirts you are likely to see people out and about even late at night. On a Friday or Saturday night there are likely to be even more people out on the streets than in the daytime. Of course, when it is minus 20 degrees Celsius in the winter, it isn’t as much fun as in the summer, but the only time Moscow really feels deserted is on the morning of Jan. 1 .

According to a recent poll conducted by The Economist , Moscow came in at 37 out of 60 big cities around the world in its Safe City Index. (Tokyo, Singapore and Osaka were at the top of the list). In other words, the Russian capital is pretty much average when it comes to safety.

Is it safe to go to the suburbs?

dior safari bag legit check

As a general rule, the police record more crimes in the city center than elsewhere. For instance, 2,846 crimes—mainly robberies and muggings—were recorded in 2018 in the Presnensky District between Arbat and Moscow City.

At the same time, over the past year these numbers have gone down by 20 percent, according to the prosecutor's office.

The city suburbs, with the exceptions of the Maryino and Perovo districts, are generally regarded as quite safe. So if you have a desire to see how ordinary Muscovites live, don't hesitate to hop on the metro and ride out to Vladykino, for example. Just work out your route in advance as you might not run into many people who speak English out there.

What about public transport and taxis?

dior safari bag legit check

When Russia hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2018, there were many stories of unscrupulous taxi drivers charging tourists astronomical amounts, sometimes as high as a thousand dollars, for a trip from the airport to the center. In order to avoid such unpleasant surprises, avoid airport taxis altogether and instead download Uber or Yandex Taxi on your phone and then pay by card rather than with cash. You will see the cost of the journey at the time of booking, and this won't change when you arrive at your destination. And if you have a strong desire to leave a tip, you can do so online. For your information, the cost of a journey from the airport to the city shouldn’t cost more than $30 (unless you order a luxury car, of course). While you can also find official taxis at the airport, these will be significantly more expensive than ordering one off Yandex Taxi or Uber.

Travelling around the city by metro, bus or trolleybus is generally quite convenient. The Moscow metro is one of the most reliable and safe (not to mention beautiful) underground transport systems in the world. The trains are new and run at short intervals. CCTVs are everywhere in the metro, and there are police at every station. Gabriel Infante Carrillo from Mexico City says that while riding the Moscow metro he had to put his backpack through an X-ray machine, but that the official was very polite with him. "I was not surprised at all, I knew beforehand that this could happen due to security reasons," he said.

Aboveground transport by and large uses specially allocated lanes, and while waiting you can pass the time at "smart" bus stops that have Wi-Fi, electric sockets and an electronic bus schedule in Latin script.

Can young women travel alone in Moscow?

It is generally rare for anyone in Moscow to pester women in the street or catcall them, especially if they see that she is a foreign tourist. Russian men are usually restrained and, even if they like a girl VERY MUCH, it is usually sufficient to politely decline their advances. So Moscow is a perfectly safe city solo women.

The Moscow Kremlin

The churches inside the Moscow Kremlin are the Cathedral of the Dormition, Church of the Archangel, Church of the Annunciation, and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki (a church tower).

The five-domed Cathedral of the Dormition is considered the most famous. It was built from 1475–1479 by an Italian architect and has served as a wedding and coronation place for great princes, tsars, and emperors of Russia. Church services are given in the Kremlin’s numerous cathedrals on a regular basis.

St. Basils Cathedral

The interior of the church surprises most people when they visit. In contrast to the large exterior, the inside is not so much one large area, but rather a collection of smaller areas, with many corridors and small rooms. There are 9 small chapels and one mausoleum grouped around a central tower.

Visiting the inside is like walking through a maze, there are even small signs all around the cathedral tracing where to walk, and pointing you in the right direction! The walls are meticulously decorated and painted with intricate floral designs and religious themes.

The Alexander Garden was one of the first urban public parks in Moscow! The garden premiered in 1821 and was built to celebrate Russia’s victory over Napoleon’s forces in 1812!

The park is beautiful and well maintained with paths to walk on and benches to rest on. The park contains three separate gardens: the upper garden, middle garden, and lower garden.

The Alexander Garden

Located in the upper garden, towards the main entrance to the park is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with its eternal flame. This monument was created in 1967 and contains the body of a soldier who fell during the Great Patriotic War!

The park stretches along all the length of the western Kremlin wall for about half a mile. Due to its central location in the city, it’ll be easily accessible when you’re out exploring The Red Square.

It provides a bit of relief from the city’s high-energy city streets. Bring a picnic lunch, go for a walk, or just sit and people watch, this is one of the best Moscow sites to wind-down and relax!

The museum also has a neat little screening room that plays old Soviet cartoons and an area with Soviet magazines! This unique attraction is a fun addition to a 3 day itinerary in Moscow, and an attraction that all ages will enjoy!

Whether you’re spending one day in Moscow, or more, safety is an important thing to keep in mind when traveling to a big city! Overall, Moscow is a very safe place to visit. However, it is always recommended that tourists take certain precautions when traveling to a new destination!

The police in Moscow is extremely effective at making the city a safe place to visit and do their best to patrol all of the top Moscow, Russia tourist attractions. However, tourists can still be a target for pickpockets and scammers.

Moscow has a huge flow of tourists, therefore there is a risk for pickpocketing. Simple precautions will help eliminate your chances of being robbed. Stay vigilant, keep your items close to you at all times, and don’t flash your valuables!

If you’re planning a solo Moscow itinerary, you should have no need to worry, as the city is also considered safe for solo travelers, even women. Stay in the populated areas, try and not travel alone late at night, and never accept rides from strangers or taxis without a meter and correct signage.

The threat of natural disasters in Moscow is low, with the exception of severe winters when the temperature can dip below freezing! Bring a good, warm jacket if you visit in Winter.

However, please note that Russian views on homsexuality are far less accepting than those in Western Europe. Likewise, Non-Caucasian travellers may sadly encounter racism in Russia .

Customer

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
