Da Nang Weather in Dry Season & Wet Season

Rachel Tran

Danang (Da Nang), the world’s 7th trending destination is definitely one of the most appealing destinations in Vietnam. As the largest city in the Central Vietnam and also the worth-visiting and living city in Vietnam , Danang’s climate is heavily monsoon-influenced, with two distinct seasons: wet and dry. Read on to find out when the best time to visit Danang city is and its nearby famous attractions.

I. Geography and Weather in Danang

Danang geography and weather

Danang is the fifth largest city in Vietnam by population. It is located on the coast of the East Sea, near the place where the Han River meets the sea. Its climate is a tropical monsoon climate with influences from towering mountains, the East sea and Han river. There are two distinct seasons within the year: a typhoon and wet season from September to December, and a dry season from January to August.

Boasting little changes in temperature throughout the year, Danang is, however, subject to a lot of natural disasters, due to its special location. Occasionally, tsunamis and typhoons may cause damage to the city, hence tourists are strongly advised to stay informed before and during their stays.

II. Monthly Weather Conditions in Danang

Let’s take a look at the table of weather conditions in Danang in each and every month of the year to find out which is best for your visit:

As mentioned before, there are two distinct seasons in Danang: wet season and dry season. There is another way to categorise seasons, in terms of tourist volumes: peak season, shoulder season and off season.

But first and foremost, let’s look at the seasons with different weather conditions:

1. Dry Season in Danang

Dry season in Danang - best time to visit Danang

The dry season starts from January and ends in August. The dry season is divided into 4 phases, with slightly changes in weather conditions among them.

The first phase starts in January and is named the dry-cold phase. It will be dry and cold, with lows reaching 20°C and the average temperature is 21°C. February is the second phase, dry-cool. The temperature will gradually increase, with gentle breeze from the ocean and a drop in precipitation. The weather is perfect during these two months, neither too cold nor too hot. Outdoor activities are kings under this weather; you can enjoy sunbathing and trekking without worrying about rainfalls.

The third phase, dry-warm, begins in March and ends in May. The temperature peaks during these months, with highs hitting 33°C. That is early summer in Danang (though it’s basically summer all year round). Average precipitation stays really low in March and April, the driest months in the year, before slowly picking up in May. The burning sun is starting to get in the way of your city strolling or trekking.

The last phase, dry-hot, occurs from June to August. They are the hottest months of the year, with the temperatures peaking at 35-36°C, even 40°C. You will start to feel the typical heat of Central Vietnam, with very long sunshine hours. Make sure you protect yourself from direct sunlight by wearing a hat, sunglasses, sunscreens and stay hydrated. Shorts, short sleeves and tank tops are your friends, but also equip yourself with a light jacket for long travels on sleeper buses.

2. Wet Season in Danang

Wet season in Da Nang

The wet season takes place from September to December and is divided into three phases. The first phase, stormy-warm, is in September, when most typhoons sweep in from the sea. Average precipitation shoots up to doubling the figure of August (from 117mm in August to 312mm in September). You will be experiencing a lot of stormy and rainy days in this month.

The second phase lasts from October to November, the stormy-cool phase. The temperature drops to 24-25°C on average, marking an autumn weather in this city. Average precipitation skyrockets to 650mm in October and 432mm in November, making these two the wettest months of the year.

The last phase, rainy-cool, wraps up the year in December. The temperature will drop to an average of 22°C, marking the early winter in Danang. It will be much more pleasant, with less precipitation and cool winter breezes.

During the wet season, most beach activities will be prohibited, so don’t come in these months if you wish to have a good swim. However, other indoor activities in Danang are attractive too, if you don’t mind traveling site to site in the rain. Jackets and raincoats are recommended for traveling in this season.

III. When is the Best Time to Visit Danang?

When to visit Danang Vietnam

January to May is considered the best time to visit Danang.

These four months belong to the dry season, when the rainfall is not a concern and the average temperature is around 22-28°C. December is not a bad choice either, as it’s the end of the wet season and the precipitation is not heavy. From June to August it will be too hot, and from September to November it will be too humid.

IV. Seasons in Terms of Tourism Volume in Danang

Seasons in Terms of Tourism Volume in Danang

1. Danang in Peak Season (June to August)

It is summertime in Danang, which means a huge number of local families will be going on their annual summer vacation. A lot of festivals will take place during the peak season, including the famous annual fireworks show. Peak season it is, all the accommodations and facilities will be overpriced and overcrowded. If you’re traveling on budget, these are the months to avoid.

2. Danang in Shoulder Season (February to May)

Danang welcomes substantially fewer tourists in this period, making it a perfect time for foreign visitors to flock here. The weather is pleasant and dry, and you’ll find the tropical sun less annoying than in summertime. The Lunar New Year often takes place during this period.

3. Danang in off Season (October to January)

There must be a reason why this time of the year is called the off season. Very few travelers pay a visit to this beautiful city, as there will be a lot of downpours and storms. In December and January the weather will be improved, making it a decent choice for those seeking a budget-friendly trip.

V. What to Pack for a Day in Danang?

What to Pack for a Day in Danang

Coming to Danang in the dry season (January to August), you will certainly be sunbathing, swimming, trekking , strolling and even motorcycling. If that’s the case, remember to pack yourself a large bottle of water, apply appropriate sunscreen, wear protective clothing to avoid direct sunlight, and bring a light jacket. You wouldn’t want to surrender to the burning tropical sun of Central Vietnam.

If you’re coming in the wet season (September to December), a raincoat is a nice-to-have, as you’ll easily find streetside local stalls selling them. A light jacket will also come in handy, as it can get chilly in December. A mix of short sleeves and long sleeves should be packed too, as the weather might change during the day.

Every season is beautiful in its own way. Although Danang is a good place to stop by anytime of the year, it’s still better to plan ahead and make the most of your trip. We hope you find this article useful and look forward to seeing you in Danang this year!

Best Time to Visit Danang: When to Go & Monthly Weather Averages

  • 1. Danang Weather At A Glance

  • 3. Monthly Averages

Danang Weather At A Glance

Da Nang can be said to be the only few places in Vietnam with predictable weather.

Temperature is highest from May to September, hovering around 24 Celcius degree. Unlike Hue, the proximity of Da Nang to Pacific Ocean keeps it cooler than it should be. In other months, the temperature does not drop below 20. Rainfall level is highest in winter month from September to January. That leaves February to May the best time to visit Da Nang. If you can, try to avoid the summer months from June to the end of August, when Da Nang becomes a popular retreat for domestic tourists.

Other suitable times for travelling to Da Nang are the public holidays like The Reunifications Day (30/4) or Independent Day (2/9) when there are many interesting and fascinating events such as The International Fireworks Contest on 30/4 or The Traditional Sailing Contest on Han River on 2/9.

Best Time To Visit

If you are not into heat wave, the best time to visit Da Nang is from December to February as the temperature is kept below 23 degrees Celsius and the weather is more pleasing.

Nonetheless, the summer time between April and August is also ideal for beach hoppers, thanks to the long hour of sunshine and little rain.

Tips for Tourists

Foggy Golden Bridge in Ba Na Hills, Da Nang

Traveling to Da Nang? Lucky you! This coastal gem has so much to offer, but like any destination, a bit of insider knowledge can elevate your trip.

Here’s the lowdown:

  • Rainy Days in Da Nang: The wet season typically spans from September to December. While October and November are the rainiest months, they also bring cooler temperatures. Expect heavy downpours, especially in the afternoons. The upside? The city looks refreshingly green and is less crowded.
  • Local Holidays and Crowds: Vietnam celebrates several public holidays, but the biggest is Tết (Lunar New Year), usually in late January or early February. It’s a festive time, but many attractions might be crowded or even closed. It’s a double-edged sword: vibrant celebrations but also peak tourist influx.
  • School Breaks: Vietnamese schools have two main breaks. The summer break, which is from late May to early August, and the shorter winter break in January, around the Tết holiday. These are times when local families might be vacationing, leading to slightly crowded local attractions.
  • Wet Season: Waterproof bags, raincoats, or umbrellas are a must. Consider moisture-wicking clothing and maybe even water-resistant footwear.
  • Summer: Lightweight clothing, sunscreen with high SPF, hats, and sunglasses. Don’t forget insect repellent!
  • Motorbike Rentals : A favorite among tourists. But remember, traffic in Vietnam can be chaotic. Always wear a helmet and ensure you’re comfortable with the driving conditions.
  • Taxis: Stick to reputable companies. Mai Linh and Vinasun are two of the trusted names. They’re metered, ensuring fair pricing.
  • Grab: It’s Southeast Asia’s version of Uber. You can book both cars and motorbikes, and the app gives you a clear price upfront, so no haggling needed!

Best time to visit Da Nang

A quick overview, da nang weather.

Da Nang has a tropical monsoon climate with two distinct seasons: a dry season from January to August and a rainy season from September to December.

During the dry season, the weather is generally warm and sunny, with average temperatures ranging from 24 to 34 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are relatively low, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities and beach fun. However, occasional cold spells can bring cooler temperatures and occasional rain showers, especially in January and February.

During the rainy season, the weather in Da Nang can be unpredictable with heavy rainfall, strong winds, and occasional typhoons. Temperatures during this season range from 22 to 30 degrees Celsius, and humidity levels are high. Travelers should be prepared for occasional flooding and possible flight disruptions during this time. Despite the rain, the countryside and lush vegetation around Da Nang are at their greenest and most beautiful, making it a good time to explore the city’s natural wonders.

Da Nang seasons

Da Nang has a high tourist season during the dry season, which runs from January to August. During this time, the city is bustling with visitors who come to enjoy the beaches, cultural attractions, and outdoor activities. Hotel prices and flight fares tend to be higher during this period, and the crowds can be quite heavy.

The rainy season, which runs from September to December, is considered the low season for tourism. Although it may rain frequently during this time, the countryside is at its greenest and most beautiful, making it a good time for nature lovers to explore the city’s natural wonders. For those who want to swim or take part in some water sports, January is not a really good time as the temperature of water decreases to its lowest level at about 22 °C.

In contrast, tourists will have chance to immerse yourself in festive atmosphere of the longest and biggest holiday in Vietnam – Vietnamese Traditional New Year which often occurs in late January and early February. In summer time, from June to August, Danang becomes a popular retreat for domestic tourists so the beaches and other famous attractions in Danang will be very crowded. If you are looking for a quiet beach and tranquil atmosphere, this is not a right time, except for those loving to soak up the sun and take part in beach games.

The Best Time of the Year to Visit Da Nang Vietnam

Da Nang has two distinct seasons in the year: the dry, from January to end of August and the wet from September to December. Compared to North Vietnam, these periods with the same weather begin 2 months later. See characteristics of each season in detail and tips in  our guide to Da Nang weather . From October to December, typhoons are formed and may hit or largely affect the city, so called “typhoon season”.

The best time of the year to visit Da Nang depends on what travelers want to see, do and experience. If looking for a sunny beach holiday, booking a flight in the span from mid-February to the beginning of the rainy season in September. The hottest months are from June to August, featuring a very high temperature and UV index, so sunbathers may have a shorter visit than earlier and later times. It’s also the best for outdoor adventures and underwater activities because the natural sceneries are at their best. However, the strong midday heat is a concern. In the rest of the year, the temperature decreases a bit but the atmosphere is more humid. It rains more frequently (more than 20 days a month), coupled with dark skies and local floods on the streets. Without much rain, travelers can enjoy the coolest period and relax.

On the other hand, there are two other famous tourist cities in Da Nang’s proximity (called the Central Vietnam), Hoi An and Hue. Both are Unesco world heritages, attracting some millions of visitors yearly. So, the best time to visit Da Nang also depends on the itinerary which is tailored for at least 2 destinations. Read the article for  Hue’s weather  and  Hoi An’s weather  for further information.

The Best Time of the Seasons in Da Nang

Da nang dry season.

The dry season in Da Nang is from January to August. During these months, the temperature is 25,5 o C on average, and reaches its peak in June, July and August. In the hottest period, the real feel may be up to 40 o C. Sunny hours are many, starting from the sunrise at around 5:30 a.m and ending with a sunset at around 6 p.m. Skies are nearly always clear, blue and with white clouds. Due to lower temperature, travellers prefer a couple of weeks between January and May. However, two long Vietnamese holidays, the New year festival and the Reunification Day cause an significant increase of travel prices, overbooking of hotels and crowds anywhere. So, the end of February to mid-April may be the best.

Da Nang (Rain) Rainy Season

The wet season in Da Nang begins in September and ends in December. Month by month, it rains more than 20 days and the rainfall rises to the highest rates of the whole year. On many days, the sunlight hours are just around 3. Typhoons may occur from October to December, causing pouring rains, gusty winds, big sea waves and local floods. The sun with full face, light sunshine and clear skies can be expected, between heavily rainy days. Domestic travellers often don’t travel much during this time, and instead, there are millions of foreigners landing to enjoy the holiday (if without typhoons). In the Christmas and New year days, the pace of life becomes more vibrant and graceful. So, when the downpour doesn’t come yet and ends (early September, late December), break time between rainy days may be the best.

The Best Month to Visit Da Nang

The best month to visit Da Nang is March and April or September. If traveling in March and April, visitors will avoid one of the most costly times and hottest times. Average high-temperature is 35 o C and low-temperature is 26 o C. Because it is still in the dry season, it provides all a beach holiday needed. There are sunny days with blue skies, dry and white sands, warm and clear water, gentle waves and opportunities to participate in water sports. Seafood is freshest, most diverse during these months. In September, the heat slows down and heavy rains don’t occur, making it ideal for sightseeing. Read our  comprehensive guide to Da Nang’s weather month by month  for more details.

The Best Time to Visit Da Nang’s Marble Mountains

The Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son) is a group of 5 scenic marble hills not far from Da Nang’s river bridges. It’s famous nationally for impressive caves, old temples, and unique formations that are pieces of a broken dragon egg in the legend. Opening from 7 a.m to 5:30 p.m, visitors have to climb some hundred steep steps to see different sights at the top of this top attraction. Good shoes and comfortable outfits are always necessary. Due to being a Buddhist sanctuary, a dress code is regulated, see details  here .

The best time to visit the Marble Mountains are  from March to May, and in September . In these periods, travellers can avoid crowded and expensive February (due to the Vietnamese new year), the warmest months (June to August) and the wet season. Between March and May, the temperature increases steadily and slowly, and every day, it reaches the peak at noon. Therefore, domestic tourists often don’t visit the mountains at that time. The most ideal sightseeing is in the early morning. Late afternoon is also okay, giving a chance to watch sunset down the horizon. Not only the heat, it’s perfect to be away from crowds who often come before and after the lunch. However, to catch the moment light falls inside the caves, photography lovers should be there while the sun is high.

From October to December, it rains three weeks a month on average and the possibility of typhoons is high. Except for a cooler temperature than previous times, other conditions are not too great – the skies are cloudy, steps and cave floors are wet and slippery. If you expect good natural light for photography, check the weather forecast and choose the day of most sunshine hours.

When is the Best Time to Visit Da Nang Beaches?

Da Nang’s coastline is long and consists of a variety of beaches on it. There are lengthy strips of sand along warm water, crescent beaches at the foot of green mountains, stone beaches by the coral reefs and coves hidden away in the jungles. The most visited places are My Khe Beach and Non Nuoc Beach (especially jet setters). See information about all beaches in our guide to beaches in Da Nang .

A wonderful beach pilgrim needs lots of sun, warm water to swim and dry sands to lounge under coconut palms. That all travelers can find from January to September when the rains don’t pour yet and the typhoons don’t cause bad weather. However, this time of the year has some local holidays in which the popular beaches are so packed. There are Tet New year festival (late January/early February), Reunification day (late April/early May) and Independence day (early September). To avoid the crowds, travelers can go to non-touristy beaches in Nguyen Tat Thanh bayfront, private beaches in resorts, hidden gems or visit in “shoulder seasons”. The off-peak periods are mid-February to April, and August to mid-September. Prices are not too expensive like Vietnamese holidays and too humid like May to July.

May, June and July are the hottest months of the year, so if don’t have another time to travel, follow the reschedule of local goers: early morning and late afternoon. Not only to avoid intense rays that harm skin and body, travellers may love brilliant sunrise and sunset. That is for swimming, sunbathing and water sports, if tending to have a stroll along the water edge with bare feet, the evening is also very nice. The best time to visit the Golden Bridge in Da Nang is when it’s sunny and without dense fog. These conditions allow visitors to see and photograph with the whole bridge and hands, and view picturesque surroundings. The morning and noon often meet both, but the crowd is a problem that may face and struggle (to seek good spots to take photos). If see so many people, visitors can decide to go to other areas and come back later when the bridge is much less packed. From 11 a.m to 2 p.m, buffet restaurants serve lunch for guided tours. It may be ideal to take your stroll in this mythical place. Of course, in the rainy season from September to October, almost any day is foggy, rainy and so wet. Views are blocked and the experience around is quite boring.

Note: Bring a selfie stick to deal with the crowds. From a height, your phone can take you, 2 hands and the bridge in one photo.

The Best Time to Visit Ba Na Hills

Ba Na Hills is a French-established hill station in the summit of Da Nang, Nui Chua at an elevation of 1,487 meters. Only 40 minutes drive is needed to get to its foot and around 15 minutes by world-record cable car to land the first sight. There are two main areas: the lower one filled by beautiful blooming flower gardens and the upper one, a French town with hotels, theme park and restaurants.

The best time to visit Ba Na Hills is from  March to the end of August  when the weather is most stable in the year. This time is characterized by many sunshine hours, low rainfall (dry) and without typhoons. During it, visitors will have a chance to feel 4 seasons in one day, the morning – spring, the noon – summer, the afternoon – autumn and the evening – winter. Thanks to a mountaintop location, the temperature is always kept around 20 o C and 16 o C at night. Opening hours are from 7 a.m to 9 p.m, so we suggest first timers go sightseeing before sunset and the evening is better for repeaters. The Hills are really famous, and no surprise that crowds and long queues are everywhere. Visitors should try to leave the hotel early, to avoid and have more time to do everything. In the last months of the year, fog covers it, making the tourist experience so poor. See more information in  guide to Ba Na Hills .

Note: If possible, don’t visit Ba Na Hills during the Vietnamese public holidays because it’s so packed there. Long ones are Tet holiday (January/February), Reunification day (end of April/beginning of May) and Independence day (early September).

The Best Time to Visit the Lady Buddha (Linh Ung Pagoda)

Similar to attractions along the Da Nang coastline, the best time to visit the Lady Buddha is  from March to September when it’s sunny throughout the day. The largest Buddhist temple of the city, Linh Ung Pagoda, is next to this super elegant sculpture. It owns very grand shrines, nicely-carved marble statues, and lots of bonsai trees on an immense paved ground. Visitors would like to wander around these famous places in the morning and after 3 p.m, to avoid the midday heat. If possible, sunrise and sunset are recommended, due to the mesmerizing beauty of nature and cool temperature. Light conditions are also most perfect, to take photos with buildings and panoramic sceneries. If aiming to be away from crowds, the evening is a proper choice. Keep in mind that the Buddha and pagoda open their doors all the time, no matter day or night. See more information in travel guides to Lady Buddha and Linh Ung Pagoda .

Highly recommended: travel guides to Lady Buddha, Linh Ung Pagoda, Son Tra Mountain Note: If planning to discover the upper parts of the Son Tra mountain, check the weather forecast in advance. Don’t ride up there in heavy rains or typhoons, it’s dangerous. Read our rider guide  here  to see details.

The Best Time to Visit My Son Sanctuary

My Son Sanctuary is a world heritage site 45 southwest of Da Nang center core. It’s a complex of 70 Hindu temples and ruins dated from 4 th to 13rd centuries, within a valley encircled by mountains. This religious site won the Unesco title due to its universal outstanding values. Especially, it’s the best example of civilization of the Champa Kingdom which ruled the Central coast until 19 th century. Because abandoned for a long time, its natural surroundings are well-kept.

The best times to visit My Son Sanctuary may be in the dry season, from January to the end of August, September and December . During summer months, visitors can expect lots of sun, dry paths to wander around for sightseeing and possibilities to see beautiful sceneries. Morning and after 3 p.m are recommended to start the visit (leaving Da Nang one hour before) to avoid midday heat. There are not many Vietnamese guided visitors coming to My Son on public holidays, so crowds are just at sometimes. In September, the temperature is lower a bit and rains occur in the last weeks. Bringing a rain gear set if your day of exploration has a high chance of rain. In December, the heavy rainfall comes down slowly, and the sun appears more. It’s also nice to have a day out from the hustle and bustle of Da Nang.

There are several Cham shows held during the day, including festival music, dancings and playing instruments. Performed by artists wearing nice traditional costumes, it’s a must to watch. Therefore, the best time of the day to visit the holy land has to cover these performances. See the reschedule in our guide to My Son Sanctuary .

Note: My Son Sanctuary may be closed in typhoons (October to December), because of floods and visitor’s safety. See latest information if traveling in this span of time, in official webpage disanvanhoamyson.com or social medias (@mysondisanvanhoa – Facebook)

The Best Time to Visit Hai Van Pass

Hai Van Pass (Deo Hai Van) is a 20km-long stretch of 1A highway by the coast between Da Nang and Lang Co of Hue. It’s packed by picturesque outlooks, coupled with cool breezes from the sea, and fascinating rides up and down. The top of it is at an elevation of nearly 1,500 meters. There, a military stronghold with brick gates and bunkers are built, for national defense. For a long time, this joyful coastal route has been loved by motorbike riders, not just since Top Gear is broadcast.

The best time of the year to visit Hai Van Pass is when it’s still sunny,  from January to September . During these months, the sun isn’t covered by dark clouds and the rainfall is minimal. Because of that, natural sceneries are full of bright colors and light is perfect for photography. Just for bike riders, the road is dry and non-misty. It is very ideal to cruise along the pass and enjoy a fascinating drive. From October to December, pouring rains and typhoons may cause dense fog, short foresight, wet road surface and dangerous situations. In guided tours, the driver often recommends getting to the other side of the ridge by the tunnel. Read more information in our guide to  Hai Van Pass .

In the lower elevations than the pass route, there is a railway running along the coastline. An experience on it is cool, stunning and off the beaten path. The best stretch of track begins in the Da Nang train station and ends in Hue. Definitely, the best time to enjoy this special ride is when it doesn’t rain. See everything about  Da Nang to Hue by train  to know details.

The Best Time to Visit Da Nang’s Festivals

The most famous celebration in the year is the Da Nang Fireworks Festival. Its semi-final matches are held in June and the female is in the first week of July. These times have the lowest rates of rainfall, clear skies, light winds, and without high humidity, very ideal for eye-popping performances of lights. Every match is wonderful and worth it to see, not only the last one.

Quan The Am Festival is the largest traditional religion event, held yearly in the Marble Mountains. It lasts 3 days, from the 17 th to 19 th day of the second lunar month (March) and the main is the last. So, the best time to attend it is 19 th day when the most exciting celebrations take place.

Like anywhere else across Vietnam, Tet (new year festival) occurs in one week in late January and early February. Due to being the biggest event, travelers have the chance to see a full of life city, from busy roads, chaotic markets, plenty of street decorations and colorful flowers, to smiles on the faces of locals. The atmosphere is joyful, optimistic, and filled with hope for a more successful year. If you are looking to see different slices of people’s life, visit the city sometime in the week before the countdown party and 3 first days of Tet are to know customs and practices. Traditionally, the 1 st day is for the father’s family, the 2 nd day is for the mother’s family and the 3 rd day is for teachers. However, travelers may face sudden increase of prices, overbooking of hotels, crowds anywhere, and unstable business reschedule. Read all festivals during the year in Da Nang and reschedule in our article here .

Da Nang Travel Guide 2024: Everything You Need to Know

Da Nang is a city that has it all: stunning beaches, majestic mountains, rich culture, and delicious cuisine. Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, history, or entertainment, Da Nang has something for everyone. In this Da Nang Travel Guide 2024, you’ll find everything you need to know to plan your perfect trip to this amazing destination. You’ll learn about the climate and the best time to visit, how to get there, where to stay, what to see and do, what to eat, and what to buy as a gift. By the end of this guide, you’ll be ready to pack your bags and explore the wonders of Da Nang.

1. Where is Da Nang in Vietnam?

Da Nang City is located in the Central region, equally divided between the capital Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City. Da Nang is also the center of three world cultural heritages: Hue Imperial City, Hoi An ancient town , and My Son Sanctuary. The north of Da Nang borders Thua Thien Hue province, the west and south border Quang Nam province, and the east borders the East Sea.

2. Climate in Da Nang and the Best Time to Visit

Da Nang is a transitional place between the Northern and Southern climates, with the dominant tropical climate in the South. Each year, there are two distinct seasons: the dry season from January to July and the rainy season from August to December. Sometimes there are cold spells in winter but they do not last long and the weather is not very cold.

  • Late December to late March : The weather is cool and pleasant, most ideal for spring trips. Prices for hotel and food services at this time are said to be the most stable of the year. Just a note that you should bring a thin jacket because it can be chilly in the evening, and sometimes there is spring rain.
  • Early April to mid-September : This is the best time to travel to Da Nang. Yet, it is also the peak summer tourism season, quite crowded and expensive. Besides that, April is the season when forest trees change their yellow and red leaves on the Son Tra peninsula.
  • Mid-September to late December : The weather is no longer hot, it starts to rain sporadically but does not last long. Also, the peak season has passed, so air tickets, accommodation services, and meals are more reasonably priced.

3. How to Go to Da Nang

Tourists often travel by plane from Hanoi and from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang. Ticket prices range from 1,300,000 – to 3,000,000 VND round trip, depending on the time of booking. Flight time is about 1 hour.

With more time, you can take the train to experience the scenery along the way, especially the section through Hai Van Pass if you come from the north. Train tickets from Hanoi or from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang cost about 630,000 VND ($26) to 1,900,000 VND ($78.5) one-way, corresponding to air-conditioned soft seats and four air-conditioned sleeper beds. Travel time is about 17 to 18 hours.

If you plan to drive your car, you need to spend at least a week on your trip to Da Nang. You should also have two drivers take turns driving or you can stop at places across the way. For example, from Hanoi, it is ideal to depart at noon or early afternoon and stay one night in Nghe An. If you go later, sleep in Thanh Hoa, and the next morning depart for Da Nang. Additionally, you can stop in Quang Binh in the afternoon to rest and explore more.

In Da Nang, you should rent motorbikes or cars to move flexibly. Renting a car is quite convenient. It can be delivered at the airport or hotel for an average price of 100,000 VND ($4) for motorbikes and about 1,000,000 VND ($41) for cars per day.

4. Accommodation in Da Nang

Tourism in Da Nang is developing rapidly. Along the coastal road, you can easily find hotels with many different prices. Besides that, Da Nang has many other forms of accommodation such as homestays, apartments, and dormitories located in the center. Depending on your budget and needs, you can choose the appropriate option. However, you should book your stay in advance to avoid being sold out on weekends and peak seasons.

Because the weather in the Central region is quite cold at night at the beginning of the year, you should choose self-contained rooms with full amenities such as a private bathroom, water heater, hair dryer, iron, and laundry service… Room prices at 4-star hotels start from about 500,000 VND per night.

On top of that, there are famous 5-star resorts and hotels in Da Nang. For example, there are InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, Hyatt Regency Danang Resort and Spa, Pullman, Furama Resort Danang, Four Points by Sheraton Danang, Novotel, Hilton, Fusion Suites, Danang Golden Bay Hotel… Room prices range from 1,200,000 to 10,000,000 VND per night.

In addition, the wet fish salad is attractive with fresh, sweet fish meat soaked in rich spicy broth, prepared from the famous Nam O fish sauce. Nam O fish salad costs about 80,000 VND per serving, enough for 2 people.

Banh Xeo with Spring Rolls

Delicious Banh Xeo shops are concentrated on Hoang Dieu, Trung Nu Vuong, Chau Thi Vinh Te, and Dong Da streets. The average price is from 20,000 to 100,000 VND per portion depending on the number of cakes and spring rolls.

Central region Banh Xeo is usually as small as a plate so it is crispy and fits better when rolled. The accompanying condiment is hot soy sauce, just the right taste for dipping the cake.

Seasoned Fish Noodle Soup

Bún Mắm Nêm at Da Nang City, Vietnam

This is a popular specialty that is easy to find in Da Nang. A full bowl of vermicelli has pork, pig ears, beef patties, spring rolls, herbs, papaya fibers or thinly sliced young jackfruit, and a cup of seasoning sauce. The indispensable spices of the Quang dish are the nutty taste of peanuts and the crunchy cake.

Enjoying vermicelli fish sauce at stalls, sidewalk stalls, or at the market will give you the most complete taste.

You can try noodles with fish sauce at Con Market or Han Market in the afternoon, priced from 15,000 to 30,000 VND per bowl.

Vermicelli with Grilled Meat

vermicelli with grilled meat

Like vermicelli with fish sauce, vermicelli with grilled meat is a familiar dish to Da Nang people. This dish is very easy to find, priced around 15,000 – 30,000 VND per bowl. Grilled pork vermicelli in Da Nang is served with soy sauce, a fatty and rich taste made from pork liver, ground meat, soy sauce, and some other ingredients.

Mixed Jackfruit Salad

Mixed jackfruit is a favorite dish of many people, the main ingredients are young jackfruit, pork skin, dried beef, along peanuts, mix well and then break off a piece of rice paper and scoop it up to eat. The price of each plate of mixed jackfruit is about 20,000 VND.

This dish is concentrated in the “snack village” on Bui Thi Xuan Street, under Tran Thi Ly Bridge, or the old lady’s mixed jackfruit shop in the alley on Ly Thai To Street – there is no sign but it is always crowded with customers. If you are a tourist, you should arrive before 5 p.m. to have a seat and learn more about this dish.

oc hut snail dish

Snails in Da Nang are often prepared in many flavors: from stir-fried with coconut, stir-fried with lemongrass and chili to boil, all are fragrant and hot. This dish is served with sour and spicy papaya strips according to Central taste. The price per portion ranges from 15,000 to 30,000 VND.

Salted Yogurt

yogurt and salt in da nang vietnam

Salted yogurt costs 1,000 VND a jar. It’s a type of snack sold in a section at the foot of Tran Thi Ly bridge.

The shop owner usually brings out a tray of about 10 jars of yogurt with a plate of white salt. The price is calculated based on how many jars of yogurt you eat. Da Nang salted yogurt is soft, and not too fatty. At first, you will feel the salty taste of the salt, then the sweetness of the yogurt that lingers in your throat.

8. What to Buy as a Gift?

Mr. Chanh’s cake, Ba De’s cake, Cam Le sesame dried cake, My Khe seaweed, Nam O fish sauce, fresh seafood or dried squid, dried fish, etc. are famous specialties of Da Nang, easy to find, buy, and pack in your luggage.

If you want to buy souvenirs, you can choose silk paintings, embroidery, oil paintings, decorative items made of stone, porcelain, wood,… or stone art artifacts from Marble Mountains, clothes from silk and silk fabric.

The Best Time to Visit Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue – Tips from Locals

Lying on the crystal coastal lines of Central Vietnam, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue are well-known for tons of stunning scenery, and historical landmarks boasting regional and cultural value. Together, the three destinations form a cultural heritage road, attracting billions of travelers worldwide every year.

If you’re planning to visit the vibrant city of Da Nang, the imperial Hue, or the ancient Hoi An town with a romantic lantern view at night, great, I’m pretty sure that you’re going to have a great time there.

But you know when the best time to visit Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue is? Getting to know the weather is crucial so you can plan and enjoy your trips to the fullest.

As a local and 4 years+ experienced tour guide in Da Nang, Hue, and Hoi An, I’ll share the best times to tour these lovely destinations.

A Closer Look at Geography and Weather in Central Vietnam

Average temperatures in da nang, hoi an, and hue, peak season for tourism in da nang, hoi an, and hue, da nang rainy season – foreign tourism peak, local recommendations on the best time to visit da nang, hoi an, and hue , happily touring with phoebe and besties, frequently asked questions.

Da Nang is located in Central Vietnam, around 764km from our capital Ha Noi and 964km from Ho Chi Minh City. This strategic position has strongly influenced the weather of this city. It inherits the climate characteristics of both the North and the South, getting slightly more tropical levels from the latter.

So, what does this mean? You have to tolerate the scorching tropical heat and crazy humidity, averagely over 85% in the summer, which locals would also not be fond of. Though it’s not a pleasant experience, it’s an unforgettable specialty in Central Vietnam. 🙂

Typically, there are two seasons in the city that you can see and feel clearly: the dry and the monsoon seasons. The dry season comes from January to July, while the rainy season lasts from August to December.

The average temperature for the dry season is around 26°C (78.8°F), but sometimes can get up to 31-35°C (87.8°-95F) in April, May, June, and July. There will be rainfall as well, usually coming in short bursts.

During Da Nang rainy season, the temperature is much lower. Due to climate change, it gets colder and colder, which sometimes drops down to 18-23°C (64.4 – 73.4°F) in December, even January, and February.

Regarding Hoi An, the weather here is pretty much the same as in Da Nang since the town is just a 30-minute drive away.

On the other hand, Hue is more intense in terms of weather among the three. This is because of the existence of Hai Van Pass between Da Nang and Hue.

Hai Van Pass

With 500 meters high above sea level, the pass serves as a shield, preventing extreme heat or cumulonimbus clouds from entering Da Nang from the Northside (Hue).

These heat and clouds get hold within the Hue border, making the weather in this region always hotter in the summer and colder to freeze with nonstop heavy rain in the winter.

You’ve been equipped with basic information about the weather in Hue, Da Nang, and Hoi An. However, the best time to visit Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue doesn’t just depend on the natural conditions but the volume of tourists also.

Summer (from May to August) is the peak season for domestic travel in Vietnam. Vietnamese students have 3 months of summer break. That is the perfect time for families to enjoy their summer holidays, and kids can join summer camps to learn new skills.

Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue are bustling with sightseers as they are the major tourist centers during the summer tourism peak.

People go here to enjoy the beautiful white sandy beaches and water activities like paragliding, snorkeling, swimming, etc., or enjoy seafood. Nothing is sexier than a turquoise beach in the vibrant summer sun.

How about foreign travelers? When is the peak season for them?

The rainy or tropical cyclone season in Da Nang, on the other hand, witnesses the highest volume of foreign visitors to the cities.

During my 4 years working as a local private guide, I’ve seen many solo travelers and foreign families choose to visit the cities in November and December to celebrate Christmas and Lunar New Year.

In my point of view, it’s not the best time to visit Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue at all. Thick gray clouds cover the sky, and you can easily get wet because it rains cats and dogs all day long.

Not only is it not good for pictures, but it’s also dangerous to drive along the Hai Van Pass, swim on My Khe beach, or hike in the Marble mountains.

See how Da Nang was turned into a giant pool after a typhoon in 2020.

Flood in Da Nang city 2020

Do You wish to enjoy the beaches, the Lady Buddha, the Imperial City, and the Tombs of Kings but hate the heat and humidity?

You don’t want to take pictures with raincoats on or umbrellas?

Easy! Let’s explore Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue during the Spring phase.

January, February, and March are the best times to visit Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue. The weather is just beautifully fine, not too hot or cold, with the breeze and low humidity levels. The sky is crystal clear, perfect for photo shoots, sightseeing, or sunbathing at the beach.

Plus, you can avoid the crowds at some main attractions in Da Nang since they are not on summer vacation yet.

I’ve given you a clear picture of how geographic location affects the climate in Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue. I’ve also spelled out the peak season for tourism in these regions.

January to March is recommended as the best time to visit Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue when the weather stays the most pleasant.

What if you can’t travel to Da Nang at that time?

No worries, Phoebe and Besties offer numerous private tours to Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue under various weather conditions. We ensure that you will have a fantastic time in Vietnam no matter how the weather is.

Everything is well-prepared, from vehicles to other stuff such as nón lá, cool waters, and moist towelette for your sunny days or umbrellas and raincoats for shower days.

Our local guides even know hidden spots that help you get away from the crowds or chill out under the rain.

January, February, and March are the best times to visit Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue. The weather is just beautifully fine, not too hot or cold, with the breeze and low humidity levels.

Which is better, Hoi An or Da Nang?

Both destinations have their own pristine scenery. Da Nang has a young and dynamic city vibe with white, sandy beaches and green mountains while Hoi An offers more historic sites with an ancient and romantic feel.

When is the Best Time to Visit Da Nang?

Da Nang is slowly, but surely becoming the main touristic destination in Vietnam. Last year alone, Da Nang hosted more than 7.5 million tourists and tourism experts predict more than 8 million tourists this year. The city is going through major development and many people ask the same question - when is the best time to visit Da Nang? Since Da Nang features a monsoon season, it's important to plan your visit accordingly. The city has two parts - a beachside and the city center.

The east side is known for tourism, chilled expat community, stunning sandy beach, and Son Tra peninsula . On the other hand, a city center features a local vibe, museums, delicious and diverse food, and extremely friendly locals. I am going to go through weather statistics and explain different seasons in Da Nang. After that, I will share my experience with seasons since I've been living in Da Nang for 11 months.

Let's plan your trip to Da Nang together.

Seasons in Da Nang

Da Nang has a monsoon climate and distinct between two seasons - wet and dry season. Officially, a dry season starts from January all the way to the beginning of September. Wet season takes place from September to early January. Since Da Nang features a tropical, or monsoon climate, the rainfall through the year is significant, especially during the wet season.

Average rainfall and temperatures in Da Nang

On the graph above you can see the amount of rainfall in Da Nang in 2017. The red line represents the average temperature for each month. You can notice that rainfall significantly increases in September and peaks in October. February is the first month of the dry season with low rainfall. The average yearly temperature (2017.) was 25.7°C. Temperatures start to rise from the middle of March and peaking through June and July.

Don't forget to check the detailed weather statistics of Da Nang .

Best Time to Visit Da Nang?

Da Nang rooftop view

Da Nang is widely popular by its sandy coast, lovely city center radiating with a local vibe, stunning surrounding nature, friendly people, and much more. Majority of tourists who're visiting Da Nang come here mainly because of beaches and nature which is partly a reason why Da Nang is extremely busy during the dry season.

Tet holiday falls in the first week of February and that's the time when the city is literally empty since people move to celebrate Tet holiday with their families (usually countryside). The temperatures around that time averages around 22°C which results in chilly days and cold nights. From the beginning of March, temperatures slowly start to rise while rainfall decreases.

Based on our experience and statistical data, it's safe to say that the best time to visit Da Nang is anytime between March and August .

Budget & Prices Through Seasons

Da Nang, compared to other big cities like Hanoi and Saigon features a quite lower cost of living during the year. As the city thrives from tourism, it's easy to understand why the prices are seasonal. Food and drink prices usually stay the same, but rental prices skyrocket when the tourist season kicks in. January to March is the perfect time to visit Da Nang if you're on a budget.

The accommodation options are abundant and the prices are slightly lower compared to the upcoming dry season. You can also bargain since the market is huge, but the demand isn't so. Prices of everything starts to rise around April all the way to August. In September, the prices start to normalize again.

Beachside road in Da Nang

Da Nang has many options when it comes to accommodation including hostels, hotels, resorts, guest houses, and homestays. If you're a budget traveler, hostels are affordable all year round. You can find some cozy and social hostels in the city center for as low as 50,000 VND per night. On the other side of the city (beachside) hostels are a bit more expensive with an average price of 80,000 VND per night.

We loved to stay in the Fedora hostel that is near the airport. The night included breakfast costs 89,000 VND. The staff is extremely friendly, the rooms are comfortable and quiet, plus the rooftop view is just amazing. (We're not affiliated with the hostel in any way, nor we earn any money mentioning the place. Just a friendly recommendation for a place we love to stay in!) Apartment prices tend to rise too.

I stayed in the apartment for around 6 months and the price was about 20% lower during the wet season. It happens mainly on the beachside of the city since it's the place where tourists flock in. If you're living for a longer period, it's recommended to figure out the prices through tourist season with the landlord and put everything in the contract.

Fresh beer in Da Nang

Prices for food & drinks usually stay the same, but it's important to avoid tourist spots if you're on the budget. For instance, a sugar cane juice (nuoc mia) on the local/regular street costs 5,000 - 8,000 VND, but for the same drink, you'll pay about 20,000 VND near the beach or in city center's tourist area.

It doesn't seem a lot, but believe us, these small costs add up very fast and burn your budget. Be aware of your budget and spend your money accordingly.

Personal Experience & Recommendation

I've been living in Da Nang for the past 11 months and visited the city countless times before finally deciding to move here. Here's my personal experience that might help you while planning your visit to Da Nang.

August - November

Beach in the fall

The first time I've arrived in Da Nang was August and the weather couldn't be better. We drove from the rainy north and finally had sunshine and a stunning beach in front of us. The tourist season was still in high gear, the place was filled with tourists, but we decided to stay in Thanh Khe district which is a local place. The vibes were great and prices were local.

Weather in September starts to change introducing occasional rain and storms, but it's still good to hit a beach on a daily basis. October is also a very good month for swimming and driving around, but everything changes from the beginning of November. Temperatures were still around 23°C, but the weather started to be unstable with constant daily showers/storms/rains.

If you're looking to have a great time when you still can hit the beach every day, we recommend visiting Da Nang from the end of August to the beginning of October. There are not so many tourists around and the prices start to drop.

The perfect period for budget travelers.

December - March

Rainy season in Da Nang

December and early January are probably the worst months to be in Da Nang. The constant rain, cold weather, and floods are the part of daily life. There was huge flooding that devastated the city center at the beginning of December. I remember that for a week I couldn't move out of the apartment. This period is ideal if you want to spend time in cafes while focusing on the projects.

During that period, I've explored quite a lot of cafes around the city and come up with a list of the best working cafes in Da Nang . Around the beginning of February, the weather becomes a bit more stable, but it's still chilly outside.

People wear long sleeves while driving and nights can be cold. Locals love to say that the summer starts to kick in after Tet holiday and it was a really accurate statement.

From the middle of February, the weather starts to stabilize, with constant sunny days and even a beach time. The water was a bit cold for swimming, but if you prefer a cold swim, then it's a good time for you.

March to April are good months to visit since the weather is amazing and the prices are still the same as during the wet season.

April - August

My Khe beach during dry season.

This period is known as a dry season and it's the start of a tourist season. During April, prices started to rise, especially in the beachside area. Constant development is a part of life during that time.

Tourists start to flock in, and you can experience it in the traffic. The price of my apartment rose for a whopping 20% in April. Anyway, the weather is extremely stable and I don't remember if there were a few consecutive days of rain. I can probably count rainy days from April to July on my hands. It's really great time to be in Da Nang. Even if you're a budget traveler, you can enjoy Da Nang during the peak season as the total cost of your trip won't exceed 20%.

Since lots of tourists and expats start to flock to Da Nang during this season, it's nice to know where to find the best expat bars in Da Nang to connect and have a great time!

This period is ideal for exploring the surrounding area. We've explored beautiful waterfalls in Da Nang and drove Prao Loop .

Be extra cautious when visiting tourist places as street vendors tend to pull scams on tourists (like in every touristic place).

We've written a huge list of scams in Vietnam we've experienced during our 2 years in the country.

So When to Visit Da Nang?

Basically, it totally depends on your preferences and budget. Probably the main reasons for visiting Da Nang are beautiful beaches, relaxation and generally having a great time. We recommend avoiding anytime between the middle of November to the middle of February. September to November and March to April tend to be amazing for budget travelers.

Expect to pay at least 20% more for the whole trip if you're visiting between April and August. It's still affordable, even for budget backpackers. Best time to visit Da Nang - April to August.

Now when you know when to plan your trip to Da Nang, head over to our detailed 3 days in Da Nang itinerary and plan your activities.

Da Nang tourist map

Da Nang Tourist Map Official by Vietnamnomad

To familiarize you with the way of getting around the city, we would like to introduce you to the Da Nang tourist map, which includes its most popular destinations as well as other useful information such as restaurants, bars, and shopping. Download it for offline use and quick access.

Da Nang weather

Positioned in the central part of the country, Da Nang experiences a tropical monsoon climate that has two distinct seasons: a rainy season (from August to December) and a dry season (from January to July). Particularly, the rainy season in Da Nang is synonymous with days of uninterrupted rain. October is the wettest month of the year with high precipitation. So, traveling in Da Nang in the rainy season may limit the range of outdoor activities. The dry season, in contrast, is often humidly hot and cloudy. The hottest month is reported in June with the temperature reaching 34 °C on average.

According to the types of activities, we suggest two ideal time frames to visit this phenomenal beach city.  Late December to late March  is perfect for sightseeing and exploring activities because the weather is super advantageous with a transparent blue sky, the absence of lasting rains, and the average temperature fluctuating between 18 °C to 27 °C.

February is the most recommended month with very pleasant weather, the least rainy month, and the celebration of many local festivals. For by-water and beach activities,  late February to late April  is the best time. This is when the temperature rises to around 32 °C, just hot enough for diving in the cool and clear water in Da Nang. Travel to Da Nang

Da Nang is one of the most developed cities in Vietnam, which means a modern transport system. One of the highlights of Da Nang transportation, making it extremely accessible, is that its airport, train station, and central bus stations are located a short distance from the city center.

Da Nang international airport is only 3 km away from the city center and is operated by many local and international airlines, making it the most preferable way to approach Da Nang from overseas. As soon as arriving at the airport, it is (again) super easy to travel to town due to its convenient location.

The national North-South Railway contributes 30 km of its train line crossing Da Nang city, and all the train routes stop in for dropping off and picking up passengers at this station. You can travel to Da Nang by train from over 35 provinces and cities and can travel almost anywhere across the country from here.

From  Hanoi  and  Ho Chi Minh City , it often takes from 16 to 19 hours to reach Da Nang. To make the long trip more comfortable, there are many seat options it has to offer, ranging from 370,000 VND ($19) to 1,100,000 VND ($47).

This means of transportation is more environmentally friendly compared to taking airplanes and also more economical; more importantly, you can view the landscapes changing through the windows, which we believe is a very worthy experience.

You are able to check the train schedule and book tickets online at  dsvn.vn .

From neighboring cities such as  Hoi An  and  Hue , there are public buses from and to Da Nang Central bus station .  In addition, private bus companies (The Sinh Tourist and  Phuong Trang ) and many local coach services operate trips to Da Nang. The long traveling time is compensated by a very affordable price.

Travel in Da Nang

To sightsee and explore Da Nang, we suggest the following means of transport.

We prioritize public transport not only for your easy access but also for the sake of our environment. Officially, Da Nang provides 14 bus routes in town. You can check for specific trips and fares on  danangbus.vn .

Safe, reliable, and more proactive is taking a taxi to see around Da Nang. With the key attractions not too stretched out, it is quite reasonable to go from place to place by taxi. When you get in touch with a driver, it is possible to ask them for a quick tour around the city (normally lasting for around 4 hours) at a cost of 650,000 VND ($28). It is also possible to suggest that they be your private driver, which means he will follow your schedule and accompany you to wherever in the city (standardly from 9 AM – 5 PM) at a price of around 1,800,000 VND ($77).

Note: The price is subject to change according to the price of fuel, and the mentioned price could be shared among four passengers. So, it is worth considering if you are traveling in a group.

Last but not least, renting a motorbike is an obvious option to travel like a local once you are familiar with the traffic flow. The cost of renting a bike ranges from 100,000 VND – 200,000 VND/day. You are likely to be asked for a small amount of money or your personal document for a deposit.

Note: For car and motorbike options, you can easily book a ride on ride-hailing apps like  Grab ,  Gojek,  and  Be .

The highlights of Da Nang transportation, making it extremely accessible, is that its airport, train station, and central bus stations are located a short distance from the city center.

Cau Ngu Festival

This is a long-established traditional festival of the coastal villages to show gratitude and respect towards whales. According to folk beliefs, whales are regarded as the guardians of the sea. Many times, it is said that it was the whales that saved fishermen and their boats when they were out at sea and facing extreme storms and waves.

The festival takes place after the Lunar New Year festival from 14 to 16 January (lunar calendar). It is a tradition that in the 2-3 day festival, people will not cook at home but will cook and eat together. All the boats will be decorated with colorful flags and flowers, and models of boats will be worshiped and released to the ocean as offerings.

An overview of Da Nang weather from wet to dry season

Rainy season in da nang (september to december).

The rainy season runs from September to December and consists of three different periods. The first phase, stormy-warm, occurs in September when most typhoons make landfall. Average precipitation doubles from August to September (from 117 mm in August to 312 mm in September). This month will be marked by numerous stormy and humid days .

The second period, characterized by storms and cooler temperatures, extends from October to November. The temperature of this city drops to an average of 24 to 25 degrees Celsius in the fall. In October and November, average precipitation shoots up to 650 mm and 432 mm, respectively, making these months the wettest of the year.

When is the Best Time to Visit Danang? An overview of monthly weather in Danang

In December, the final, rainy-cool phase closes the year. The average temperature will drop to 22 degrees Celsius, indicating the beginning of winter in Da Nang. It will be somewhat more pleasant, with less precipitation and strong winter winds.

It is advisable to avoid these months if you wish to engage in beach activities, as they may be limited due to the rainy season. If you don’t mind driving from one place to another in the rain, Danang’s various indoor activities are also attractive. In this season, jackets and raincoats are recommended for travel.

Dry season in Da Nang (January To August)

When is the Best Time to Visit Danang? An overview of monthly weather in Danang

The dry season begins in January and lasts until August . The dry season is divided into four periods, each with small variations in weather conditions.

The dry-cold period starts in January and extends into February. The minimum temperature will be around 20 degrees Celsius, with an average temperature of approximately 21 degrees Celsius. In February, the weather transitions to the dry and cool phase, characterized by a gradual temperature increase, light oceanic breezes, and decreased rainfall. These two months offer a pleasant climate that is neither excessively cold nor overly warm. In these conditions, outdoor activities reign; you can enjoy sunbathing and walking without worrying about precipitation.

The third phase, dry-warm, lasts from March to May. In this period, the temperature can reach a maximum of 33 degrees Celsius. That is the beginning of summer in Danang, although it is summer all year round. March and April, the two driest months of the year, have extremely low average precipitation, which gradually increases in May. The scorching sun begins to make your walk around the city or hiking difficult.

The final, dry-hot phase takes place between June and August. They are the hottest months of the year, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius. Visit Ba Na Hills

The Golden Bridge in Da Nang, Vietnam

If you have never visited Sun World at Ba Na Hills , imagine Disney World placed on the side of a jungle-clad mountain. I didn’t know quite what to expect when I first visited, but was blown away by the beautiful gardens, incredible entertainment venues, and stunning location of the park. I am guessing that many of you recognize the park’s Golden Bridge, which has been nicknamed the “Hands of God Bridge”. However, it is just one of many incredible sights to see in this amazing place.

If you plan on visiting Sun World during your stay in Da Nang, I would suggest dedicating a full day to exploring the park. Like Disney World, it is a big park with a lot of amazing things to see and do. I also suggest getting to the park early in the morning so that you can get some pictures of the Golden Bridge while it isn’t packed with people.

Check out the Dragon Bridge

The Dragon Bridge in Da Nang, Vietnam

The incredible Golden Bridge in Ba Na Hills isn’t the only amazing bridge in the city of Da Nang. In fact, there is a bridge located in the heart of the city that is every bit as impressive. The infamous Dragon Bridge is one of the most unique and beautiful bridges that you will find anywhere in the world.

A giant golden dragon runs the length of the bridge, which spans across the mighty Hàn River. What really makes this bridge impressive is that it breathes real fire and water. Check out the video I posted below to see this impressive bridge in action.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  If you want to see the dragon breathe fire and water, make sure you plan to be in Da Nang over the weekend. The dragon only breathes fire and water on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Stop at the Love Lock Bridge

The Love Lock Bridge in Da Nang, Vietnam

There are several bridges like this throughout the world and it is always a fun way to responsibly leave your mark on a city. Visitors to the Love Lock Bridge in central Da Nang are encouraged to purchase a padlock and attach it to the railing of this beautiful little bridge. It’s a way for couples to symbolize their binding love for each other. The beautiful heart decorations really add to the special ambiance of this wonderful bridge.

Visit the Marble Mountains

The Marble Mountains in Da Nang, Vietnam

One of the most popular attractions in Da Nang is the incredible Marble Mountains . Located roughly 20 minutes South of Da Nang towards Hoi An, the Marble Mountains consist of five distinct coastal mountains. Each of these mountains is named after a different element. They are Kim Son (metal), Thuy Son (water), Moc Son (wood), Tho Son (earth), and Hoa Son (fire).

Each of these mountains has a plethora of interesting caves and tunnels that you can hike through. Many of these caves have beautiful Buddhist temples built into them. The most popular of the Marble Mountains is Thuy Son. While the hike to the top involves 150 steep steps, there is also an elevator that you can pay to take to the top.

At the top of Thuy Son is the renowned “Road to Heaven”. This hike takes you through several caves before reaching a viewpoint that lets you see out over the city and the other Marble Mountain peaks. If you plan to visit, make sure you get there early to beat the crowds. You will also want to wear shoes with good traction as the marble rock inside the caves can be quite slippery.

Visit the Sơn Trà Mountain

The Lady Buddha in Da Nang, Vietnam

Also known locally as “Monkey Mountain”, the Son Tra Mountain is a breathtaking national park that is located on the nearby Son Tra Peninsula. The mountain is popular because it is a great spot to get stunning views of the city of Da Nang. And if you’re lucky, you may also spot the rare red-faced monkey species that call the mountain park their home.

In addition to the great views and fun wildlife encounters, the Son Tra Mountain is also home to the tallest statue of the Goddess of Mercy and the stunning Linh Ung Pagoda. These two monuments alone are worth the trip to the top of Monkey Mountain. The great views and the monkeys are just icing on the cake.

Take a Day Trip to Historic Hội An

Hội An, Vietnam

No visit to Da Nang is complete without taking a day trip to the nearby historical town of Hội An . Located just 45 minutes south of Da Nang, it will feel like you are going centuries back in time when you visit. It is a quaint, beautiful town that is pedestrian-friendly and full of colorful, historical buildings.

However, what really gives the town its wonderful ambiance is the colorful lanterns that are hung from every tree. When you visit, you can tour the old town or take a short boat ride down the river to soak in the experience. If you want to maximize your experience in Hoi An, plan to visit during the night market . The beautiful lanterns lighting up the town and the aroma of delicious food will make you never want to leave.

Visit the Han Market

Han Market in Da Nang, Vietnam

When visiting Da Nang, it is essential to spend some time at one of the city’s incredible markets. In my opinion, one of the best is the amazing Han Market. In addition to great food in the area, you will also find everything from designer knockoffs to neat souvenirs to bring back home. Some of the neat things I saw during my visit were colorful oil lanterns (like you see in Hoi An), straw bags and purses, lots of silk shirts and dresses, and beautiful wood carvings.

Spend Some Time at My Khe Beach

The Beach in Da Nang, Vietnam

The gorgeous My Khe Beach is a breathtaking stretch of coastline that reaches from the base of the Son Tra Peninsula all the way to the Marble Mountains. Its soft, white sand and calm waters make it a perfect beach for swimming and relaxing. The beach has plenty of lounge chairs available to rent and is just a few miles from the center of the city. This makes it the perfect spot to unwind after spending the day sightseeing around the city.

See the Nearby Mỹ Sơn Ruins

Mỹ Sơn Ruins near Da Nang, Vietnam

For travelers who like history, the nearby Mỹ Sơn Ruins are a site that you won’t want to miss. Located roughly an hour’s drive from Da Nang, Mỹ Sơn was the important religious and political capital of the Champa Kingdom between the 4th and 13th centuries. The Champa Kingdom practiced Indian Hinduism and the ruins at Mỹ Sơn are some of the best preserved from this period.

While they may not be as impressive as Angkor Wat, they are impressive to see in person and give you a glimpse into the history of the area. Not only that, but the setting for the ruins couldn’t be more beautiful. If you are interested in visiting, there are plenty of day tours that will take you there. I have linked to a few highly rated ones in my Recommended Tours section of this Da Nang, Vietnam guide below.

See the Linh Ung Pagoda

Linh Ung Pagoda in Da Nang, Vietnam

Legend has it that, during the reign of King Minh Mang (of the Nguyen Dynasty), a statue of Buddha suddenly drifted out of nowhere and landed on the sand beaches of the Son Tra Peninsula. Believing it to be a good omen, the coastal fishermen built a shrine on the peninsula.

Today, the beautiful Linh Ung Pagoda is an important religious shrine and a popular tourist spot near the city of Da Nang. In addition to the beautiful pagoda, the stunning gardens are worth exploring. However, the highlight of the pagoda is undoubtedly the giant Lady Buddha. At 220 feet (67 meters) tall, it is the tallest in Vietnam and an incredible sight to behold.

As good as the views of the Lady Buddha are from the ground, there is a 17-floor staircase inside the statue that leads to the top. At each level, you will find 21 beautiful Buddha statues and an altar to pray. Visiting the Linh Ung Pagoda is a must-see spot for anyone traveling to Da Nang as it is one of the city’s most important religious and cultural spots.

How to Get to Da Nang, Vietnam

Flying to Da Nang, Vietnam

If you will be visiting Da Nang from outside of Vietnam, you will need to look for flights to Da Nang International Airport (DAD) . This is a large international airport that has direct flights to and from many other popular destinations in Southeast Asia. For an idea of flight time and the availability of direct flights, please refer to the chart I included in my Da Nang, Vietnam guide below.

IMPORTANT NOTE: An important aspect of your travel to Da Nang that you shouldn’t overlook is your tourist VISA. For many Western countries, including the United States, the visa-on-arrival process is not an option.

This means that you need to obtain your VISA before traveling. In fact, you won’t be allowed on your flight to Da Nang without it. So, please be sure to review my Vietnam Entrance Requirements guide that I linked at the top of this guide before booking your flights.

The coastline in Da Nang, Vietnam

When you start to plan your trip to Da Nang, one of the most important factors to consider is when to visit. Vietnam, like most other destinations, has weather that is more enjoyable during certain times of the year. Essentially, there are two different seasons in Vietnam. Which of these seasons you choose to visit will have a big impact on what you can see and do.

In Vietnam, the monsoon season lasts from September until March. However, a vast majority of the rainfall the Da Nang area gets is from September through December. Meanwhile, the dry season in Vietnam typically stretches from April until August. However, the hottest months of the year in Da Nang happen to be during the summer months of June through August.

These are all factors that you will want to consider when you start to plan your trip to Da Nang. To assist you in determining the right time to plan your visit, I cover the type of weather you can expect throughout the year in my Da Nang, Vietnam guide below.

Average Temperature (°F)

Like most of Southeast Asia, the climate in Da Nang, Vietnam is a tropical one. While the temperatures can be very warm year-round, the hottest temperatures in Da Nang are from June through August. This coincides with the middle of the dry season in Vietnam. While the weather is dry, it can be blistering hot during this time of year with temperatures reaching the upper 90s (or 35 degrees Celcius).

Conversely, the months of November through January are typically the coolest in Da Nang. Although the temperatures may be cooler, the months of November and December are also two of the rainiest months of the year in Da Nang. The month of January can be a good month to target if you want to avoid the heat because the monsoon rains aren’t as heavy and the temperatures are still rather cool.

Average Precipitation (Inches)

While the monsoon season in Vietnam runs from September until March, the wettest months of the year in Da Nang are September through December. During these four months, the city of Da Nang usually sees around seventy-five percent of its annual rainfall. So, unless you plan on spending a lot of time indoors or getting drenched in the rain, you might want to avoid visiting during these months.

The dry season in Vietnam typically runs from April until August. During these months, there is a lot of sunshine and a lot less rain in Da Nang. For travelers who want to maximize their time at the beach or out exploring the Marble Mountains, the early dry season is a great time to visit. The weather is nice, but it isn’t yet scorching hot.

The Best Months to Visit Da Nang

In my opinion, the best time to visit Da Nang, Vietnam is between late January and early May. During this time of year, the weather is typically sunny with low humidity levels and cooler temperatures. This makes it the most comfortable time of year to be active outside.

The summer months of June through August are dry, but they are also typically very hot. The summer months are also when Da Nang typically sees the largest crowds, so you will likely have to deal with longer lines and higher accommodation prices if you visit during this time of year.

The worst time to visit Da Nang is during the monsoon season, which typically stretches from September until early January in Da Nang. Unless you don’t have a choice, I would steer clear of visiting during these months as the city can see torrential downpours that make getting around and doing things very difficult.
