Map for the Germany, Italy & Switzerland tour

Pack your appetite for adventure (and pasta) and board your overnight flight to Italy. This is the time to rest up—new countries, cultures, and cuisines await.

Benvenuto (welcome) to the Venice Region, otherwise known as Veneto. Once one of the richest and largest maritime trade empires in the world, the sheer number of canals, bridges, and boats should come as no surprise. You’ll drop off your bags, stretch your legs, then venture over to an authentic neighborhood on the western side of Venice.

In the evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner of local cuisine and drinks with fellow travelers at an authentic local spot. Afterwards, you’re free to take the party elsewhere!

Today's highlights:

  • Land at the airport and meet a waiting EF representative.
  • Transfer to your hotel to check in and check out your room.
  • Get familiar with the area around your hotel with an introductory walk with your Tour Director.
  • Travel to and tour the Santa Margherita neighborhood of Venice.

On your first full day of adventure, you’ll arrive at the gorgeous St. Mark’s Square after a short boat ride into the city. You’ll be met by a local guide who’ll show you the famous sights of the city.

  • Arrive in true Venetian style at St. Mark’s square via the Giudecca Canal.
  • Stand in the footprints of history on the Rialto Bridge, the oldest spanning the Grand Canal.
  • See for yourself why the 15th century Scala Contarini del Bovolo staircase literally means ‘of the snail’.
  • Watch a local artist in action during a glass blowing demonstration.

Free time suggestions

Gondola Ride on the Grand Canal: What better way to experience a city known for its bridges and canals than with a gondola ride down the grandest of them all? Your Tour Director will point you in the right direction if decide you want a ride but finding the gondoliers yourself won’t be hard either—just look for their traditional uniform of black pants and striped shirts. Libreria Acqua Alta: Calling itself the most beautiful bookstore in the world, this gem is absolutely worth the visit. Wander through charming rooms stacked wall-to-wall with books in this unique shop that battles the nearly constant flooding by placing some of its books in waterproof basins, bathtubs, and boats.

Put the canals of Venice in the rearview and set your sights on the city known for Mozart and The Sound of Music . Along the way you’ll stop in the town of Innsbruck, Austria, a popular destination for winter sports featuring colorful architecture set against the jagged peaks of the Alps.

  • Travel by bus from Venice to Salzburg, gaining altitude and a newfound appreciation of the towering Alps as you go.
  • Take a deep breath of fresh mountain air while you explore the scenic town of Innsbruck with your Tour Director.
  • Arrive in Salzburg and enjoy a free evening to explore the city on your own.

Sitting on the northern boundary of the Alps, Salzburg is known for its well-preserved baroque architecture and stunning alpine setting. Its name literally means ‘salt castle’ but we suggest opting for a delicious local strudel instead.

  • Join a local guide for a tour of the city including Kapitelplatz, Residenzplatz, and Old Town.
  • Stand before Sphaera , a prominent piece of art featuring a large golden sphere with a man perched on top.
  • Browse Alter Markt, the oldest weekly market in the city known for its selection of dairy, cabbages, and herbs.

Hohensalzburg Fortress: Dominating the city’s skyline atop Festungsberg mountain, this fortress is the largest fully preserved castle in Central Europe. Built in 1077 and never once captured by foreign troops, it nonetheless provides an amazing vantage point for its visitors. Sound of Music Tour: Walk in the footsteps of the von Trapp family as you explore original shooting locations and pose for the camera—just remember to think about a few of your favorite things to make sure you’re in character.

Note: This excursion is seasonal and only runs from mid-May through mid-October. Availability is subject to your tour’s departure date and weather that day. Remember how much you loved the playground? Today will be like that, except the slide is nearly a mile and a half long and comes with magnificent panoramic views of the Alps.

Make your way to a major center of German art, music, and innovation. Considered by many to be the greatest beer destination in the world, it’s no wonder that it was rated as the world’s most livable city. And even if you’re not there during Oktoberfest, the beer still flows freely. Prost!

  • Follow a local guide on a tour of Munich’s main attractions including Frauenkirche, Marienplatz, and Glockenspiel.
  • Tempt yourself with the delicious array of food and drink in the massive farmer’s market and beer garden of Viktualienmarkt.
  • Stop by one of Munich’s famous beer halls and have a stein on your own dime.

Let your heart, or your stomach, take the lead on a day that’s completely up to you. Explore, sample the local fare (hint: sausages are wildly popular), and keep your eyes and ears peeled for a live show from a traditional Oompah band. Lederhosen optional.

BMW Museum: Pick up a ticket and discover an impressive collection of over 120 of BMW’s most valuable and attractive automobiles and motorcycles. The past, present, and future are all on display at this monument to German innovation and engineering. Bike through Englischer Garten: One of the world’s largest urban parks at over 900 acres, this English style garden has a lot to explore. Pedal your way by the Japanese teahouse, a stream with a standing wave surfed by locals, and more.

Dachau Memorial Site (extra cost)

Once a typical German town, Dachau was the first Nazi concentration camp during World War II.

Get ready to roll out of Germany—but not before making a photo stop outside a castle so picturesque it’s rumored to be the inspiration behind Cinderella’s castle. Then it’s off to Switzerland, home to some of the finest chocolate in the world.

  • Climb aboard the private bus for a scenic ride across the European countryside.
  • Visit Neuschwanstein Castle and snap some epic photos.
  • Check another country off your list as you arrive Switzerland.

Breathe in fresh lake air with hints of fresh chocolate (it might only be your imagination) as you explore a charming city overlooked by the snow-capped peaks of the Alps. It won’t take long to see why so many people flock to Switzerland—and seemingly never want to leave.

Farewell Dinner Share some laughs and any stories you may have missed along the way at this included farewell dinner with the group.

  • Get introduced to the city with a guided tour from your Tour Director.
  • Stand in wonder before Löwendenkmal, an impressive sculpture of a wounded lion carved into a sheer rock cliff.
  • Stroll across the Kapellbrücke, a covered wooden footbridge featuring a series of paintings dating back to the 17th century.

Trip up the Swiss Alps (extra cost)

Take an amazing trip to the top of a mountain in the Swiss Alps and soak in the incredible panoramic views. Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

Auf Wiedersehen, Freunde! Translation: Goodbye, friends. Before you head to the airport, make sure to take one more group photo and grab that final drink. But this isn’t goodbye because you can always get the gang back together for another trip soon. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, we have a couple ways to keep your vacation going.

Absolutely amazing!!

Best Trip Ever!!

I absolutely loved the trip! I loved the places we visited, excursions, the people, tour director, and the memories we created! I keep looking at my photos and videos trying to relive the experience!

Cant wait to book another

This trip was amazing! Im so glad I chose this for my first tour. Our tour director was so much fun and I loved my group.

Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland

This is a once in a lifetime trip and I’m so happy that I decided to go and to do it by myself. Every place we went was absolutely breath taking and the activities provided made it so much more. The group is what truly made it, the people I met on this trip were amazing and my expectations for other tour groups are set high now. I hope everyone gets to share... See more

Hop on two wheels and cruise along the city's canals like the locals do. Then, travel by train from Amsterdam to Berlin where you will have a free evening to explore this fascinating city. You could also spend the evening unwinding in your hostel. Maybe play some cards as a group. Anyone ever heard of “Pitch”?

Meals included:

Day 3 berlin.

Let loose today, we dare you. Why? Because it will be fun, especially with your newest pals. Get your bearings with an orientation walk with your CEO around the city. Then, it's your turn to explore the tangible history and melting pot of cultures at work here. Head straight for the Berlin Wall, walk through the Brandenburg Gate, and feast those eyes on the Checkpoint Charlie Museum.

Want to try something even cooler? Rent a bike and visit the now defunct Tempelhof Airport which doubles as a beautiful park space in the city. (A best-kept local secret if we do say so ourselves). At night lounge in the hostel or witness the vibrant nightlife Berlin is known for.

Day 4 Berlin/Prague

Prague is up next, with a few treats along the way! First up on your journey is Dresden, Germany. Home to a booming art scene, we think a visit there to wander around the cobblestone streets, is a must. Explore the picturesque old town, stroll through the charming streets and take in the beautiful views of the Elbe River. Step back in time and admire the stunning reconstruction of Frauenkirche, a must-see landmark in Dresden. Indulge in the art and culture scene.

Afterwards, hit the road and arrive in Prague by early evening. Your day doesn’t end here, gather as a group and go on a highlight walk with your cool CEO passing must-see places like, the TV Tower of Prague, the Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge, and John Lennon's Wall, followed by a beer tasting to experience Prague's famous brews.

Day 5 Prague

Soak up the atmosphere of Prague on a highlight walk of all the city has to offer. Afterwards, hit up the famous Charles Bridge with your friends, admire the clock tower in the main square, or sit and sip a thirst-quenching brew at a traditional Czech beer hall with a side of meat and potatoes. It’s guaranteed to be a loud, lively and marvellous time! Remember, it's all up to you.

Day 6 Prague/Vienna

You're in for a day of unbeatable views! Get ready for another round of those back-in-time feelings as you stroll through the Medieval town of Cesky Krumlov on the way to Vienna. Be your own Queen (or King) of the castle as you explore 13th century ramparts with the added bonus of spectacular views. Slip into your inner explorer and see the Old Town from the top of the round bell tower, people watch from a cafe in the main square while you debate as a group where to have lunch, and then toss a coin to make the decision.

Finish the day in Vienna where you’ll get to know the city as a group on an evening highlights walk. Pass sites like, St. Stephen's Cathedral, Rathaus, National Library, The Hofburg and much more. Later, kick back, relax, and have some laughs at your hostel.

Day 7 Vienna

We’re excited for you today! The day is yours after a short walking tour, but don’t let the freedom paralyze you. We have plenty of suggestions. You could seek out famous landmarks like, The Vienna State Opera House, Belvedere Palace, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and Vienna City Hall.

Remember, we all need a little downtime during our travels, so if you need a break we get it. Grab a coffee, order a slice of mouthwatering cake and settle yourself in with your pals on a café terrace as the world moves on around you. Don’t worry, you still have plenty of time to keep finding a few world-famous museums and indulge in typical Austrian desserts like strudel or Sacher Torte. Keep in mind your CEO just might know the best secret places that will really set your experience apart from the main crowd. Ask away!

Day 8 Vienna/Salzburg

If you have a soft spot for beautiful alpine lakes that border two countries, today is going to check off all of those boxes. You’ll be able to wander around the clear waters of Konigsee, smell the fresh air, and find that inner peace that comes from being in the great outdoors.

Salzburg is up next, so don’t forget to save some of that wanderlust energy! You’ll go with the group on an orientation walk of the city. Wander the historic squares and quaint little side streets of Salzburg Old Town. Climb Festungsberg Hill to visit Hohensalzburg Castle, or find the birthplace of Mozart and meet up to go to the museum there.

Day 9 Salzburg/Munich

A whistle blows in the distance as a conductor shouts, “All Aboard!” You rush to the platform, jumping on with just moments to spare. While this may not be exactly what happens today, it will pretty much be along those lines when you hop on a train from Salzburg to Munich. A city with a big heart, as charming as it is laid back, and as buzzing as it is calm will be waiting for you upon arrival.

Spend time in Marienplatz, home to the Old and New Town Halls. Find the famous glockenspiel, or one of the many great beer halls, or the green dome-crested towers of the iconic Church of Our Lady. The vibe is totally up to you, have a pint, or two, or three!

Day 10 Munich

Set your inner detective on the loose in search of the best experiences in Munich. Visit museums, art galleries, lush gardens, and main squares. Learn about the history and culture and shop, eat, drink, and walk until you drop. If you need time to recuperate, opt to stay in the hostel and relax in the common areas before the group welcomes new travellers in the evening.

Day 11 Munich/Innsbruck

Get this adventure started and road trip from Munich to Innsbruck. Nestled snugly in a picturesque valley with panoramic views of the alps, Innsbruck won't disappoint. Get your bearings with the help of your CEO and spend some free time becoming familiar with your hostel and surroundings. Opt to wander along Maria Theresien Street, explore the Grassmayr Bell Foundry, or check out Ambras Castle, famous for its renaissance gardens. Get ready to fill your camera roll!

Day 12 Innsbruck/Venice

Pile onto the bus again and head into the epic scenery of the Dolomites. Think filling your feed with crystal clear mountain lakes and snow-capped peaks. Take a hiatus from the road and stroll around Lake Misurina in the province of Belluno. Known as the “Pearl of Cadore”, you won’t be disappointed with what you find here. The mirror-like reflection of the mountains in the lake makes it seem as if you are walking in a dream.

But don’t forget, Venice is the real end goal of today, so try not to get too attached to Belluno, we bet you already did. Tonight join your CEO for a nice cold beverage and see where the night takes you.

Day 13 Venice

“Oh what a night, what a beautiful night…” This tends to be the song stuck in our heads whenever a visit to Venice is on the table. Can’t you just hear that accordion? After becoming acquainted with Venice's cuisine on a CEO-led food tour, and learning of ghostly legends, the day is yours, no judgments here on what you decide to do. From canals to gondola rides, and inspiring architecture, what’s not to love?

The main city is small enough that you can walk it in several hours with the added bonus of getting those steps in. Explore the canals, relax in the small squares, and go cafe-hopping for coffee, pastries, wine, or all three, because why not? See Venice from the water on a gondola ride through the canals, run through the pigeons or people watch in St. Mark’s Square, take an elevator ride up to the top of the Campanile Di San Marco for panoramic views of the city below. Your only real job today is to have a blast!!

Day 14 Venice/Florence

We promise your tastebuds will thank you and rejoice with what’s on the menu for today’s adventure. All aboard the train from Venice to Florence. Being one of Italy’s most sought after food capitals, make sure you stuff your face while here. Eat the city’s signature pasta and venture out of those comfort zones to sample any specialty dishes you may stumble upon. Your CEO will point you in the right direction on CEO-led food and market tour.

This evening happens to be perfect if you are looking to relax, eat some more (if you can), or recover from those food comas in your hostel before a quick highlight tour of the city.

Day 15 Florence

Live your best life on this free day in Florence! Grab some pals, lace up those walking shoes, and let the good times roll. Take in famous works of art hung in the Uffizi and Galleria dell’Accademia. “Oh and ah” at the grand architectural masterpieces of the Duomo and the Palazzo Pitti, and smell the flowers in Boboli Gardens. Looking for more chill vibes? We got you covered. Walk along the Arno and over the Ponte Vecchio before eating your way through the Firenze’s many cafes, ristorantes, and gelato shops.

Day 16 Florence/Rome

Leave Florence behind and catch the train to Rome. Upon arrival grab your travel mates and enjoy a walking your before letting your appetites run wild on an afternoon food tour; cue those Italian fantasies. Sample pizza, gelato and more as you learn about the heart and soul behind Italian cooking.

The night is yours! Did someone say dance party?

Day 17 Rome

Depart at any time, or keep the adventure going across the Adriatic Sea on the next leg of this epic adventure.

Expert Advice

diana

Some of what you think of as traditional Italian foods are actually American interpretations and not widely available there. Some examples are heavy cream sauces such as alfredo, spaghetti and meatballs, and chicken parmigiana (however, you may find these items in more tourist-oriented restaurants).

Places visited, suggested duration, customizable itinerary, paris – the parisian welcome.

Paris is a city of wide boulevards and hidden urban gardens. Cafes line the sidewalks where locals sit with fresh espressos people watching. Lavish boutiques showcase designer dresses with unique aplomb.

Your private transfer meets you at the airport upon your arrival and escorts you to a fabulous hotel. After dinner, you meet your guide and venture to the riverside terraces of the Seine. The water shimmers in the city’s evening light. Board the river cruise to gain an unparalleled first impression of Paris. Pont Neuf is illuminated in the night, each arch imitating its reflection on the water. In the background, the Eiffel Tower stands like a star against the perfect night sky.

What's Included:

Paris – Buttery Morning

The day begins with the aroma of a flaky, buttery croissant crackling when you sink your teeth into its fluffy texture. Sip your cappuccino and delight in the creamy foam swirled across the top.

After breakfast, your guide leads you into the city known for its splendid monuments and indulgent culture. You reach a large roundabout where 12 separate avenues converge around the staggering Arc de Triomphe. The monument was erected in 1836 and stands 164 feet tall. Rich friezes decorate the exterior commemorating the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. Your guide points at the most famous of the friezes known as La Marseillaise, a personification of the French National Anthem, where France is depicted as a winged angel calling forth her people to fight. The detail in each person rising along the arc shows remarkable skill and pure emotion.

Lucerne – Countryside to Mountainside

Your guide meets you at the hotel and leads you out of Paris. The buildings fade and the countryside sprawls to the horizon, filled with lush grass and rolling hills. Pass through the towering thin trees of Fountainbleau Forest, and alongside the meandering vines of Burgundy. The hills turn into rugged mountains as you ascend the foothills of the Swiss Alps.

You reach Lucerne and find the city standing at the shores of the glacial waters of Lake Lucerne. The edge of town is reflected in the placid lake. Old Town is a preserved village reminiscent of quaint photographs and postcards. Musegg Wall protected the town in the 14th century and remains well preserved. Four towers stand at attention watching over the town and the border. A clock tower dates back to 1535 and decorates the façade of Zyt Tower. The mountain air creates a calm and crisp aroma sweeping through the streets.

Lugano – Mountain Waters

The clouds are close enough to touch in the morning drifting past Mount Pilatus. The summit stands 6,982 feet above sea level with rugged, jutting peaks. A railway car will take you along the world’s steepest railway for a view of overlooking Lake Lucerne and the lushness surrounding the city.

Your guide meets you at the hotel and takes you to Lugano, filled with friendly people filtering in and out of chic boutiques, trendy bars, and quaint cafes. The long, narrow streets wind around the city in a maze of cobblestone opening up to a flowery promenade along the pristine waters of the alpine lake. The city fills with the aroma of blossoming flowers and the sweet fragrance of a cherry tree growing on the rooftop of Via Pretorio 9. Celebrated architect Mario Botta designed the building, and he is known for his contemporary style and mastery of capturing natural light.

Pisa – Capturing Marble

The sunrise casts a silver beam over the stoic lake. Fishermen venture out onto the water in the peaceful dawn surrounded by the soft light. After breakfast, you leave the Alps behind, venturing over the border of Italy and to the Tuscan university town of Pisa. The university was founded in 1343 and has maintained a coveted status among universities across Italy. The town has a sleepy quality during the day and becomes jovial and energetic the closer you come to Piazza dei Miracoli, the square known for containing the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

The plaza is large and open. The cathedral stands with opulent white and gray marble reflecting the sunlight. In the foreground, you see the Leaning Tower standing 183 feet off the ground and listing four degrees. Construction began on the structure in the 12th century. The pearl marble edifice shines brilliantly against the spotless sky. Small pillars encircle six out of the seven layers of the tower, creating an elegant tiered cake façade. The tower adheres to the unique and wondrous architecture around the square, from the baptistery to the Cathedral.

Florence – Searching for David

Florence is a city blanketed in Renaissance beauty. Inside the historic walls encircling the city, you find cobblestone streets and elegant stone facades. The Arno River trickles softly against the riverbanks flowing underneath the lively Old Bridge. Santa Croce Church stands at the top of the square, with brilliant marble colors, and is the final resting place of Galileo. Your guide leads you through the exceptional city where vibrant sculptures can appear around every corner.

Inside the L’accademia dell’Arte, you come to a spacious museum shining with brilliant, white walls. Historic instruments provide insight into the detail and structure of various craftsmen. You turn down a long, vaulted hall to find the striking image of David posing underneath a glass dome. Michelangelo carved the immaculate statue in the early 16th century creating a marvelous masterpiece that stands 17 feet tall. The Biblical hero once stood in front of the Old Palace in Piazza Signoria. The details shape the statue’s muscles and textures, creating a lifelike depiction of the legendary figure.

Rome – Power of the Past

Rome is known as the Eternal City for its consistent rebirth over the millennia, from Roman roots to Mussolini’s redesigning of Via della Conciliazione, giving Il Duce a view of the Roman ruins from his balcony. The sweet fragrance of flowers emanates from the farmer’s market in Piazza Navona.

Your guide meets you after breakfast and leads you through the sensational history wrapping around the city. You stroll through St. Peter’s Square to find the open plaza brimming with people, each one excited to stand in the presence of the basilica, a sparkling fountain, and the pope’s graces. Inside the Vatican Museum, you find artifacts spanning the globe and history, from Egyptian ankhs to Renaissance paintings. The Map Room contains gilded panels across the roof, separating the Baroque paintings. The cool air in the museum helps preserve the remarkable artwork. You turn the corner into a small room and find Raphael’s School of Athens on display. The painting was completed in 1511 and embodies the spirit of the Renaissance, and embraces the classics. Italian masters, from da Vinci to Michelangelo represent celebrated Greek philosophers discussing their trades in the enlightened squares of Athens. If you study the painting carefully, you can find Raphael peeking his head out of the right side behind a group of conversing students.

Rome – Dynasties Preserved

In the northern region of Emilia-Romagna, you stop in the city of Ferrara. The medieval streets continue to embody the rich history of the city and an enticing history. The Po River meanders around the cityscape and adds a cooling quality to the quiet breeze.

Then, you come to a large moat and see a drawbridge that connects the pathway to the main gate across the water. Behind the main gate is the Estense Castle, constructed in the 14th century as a refuge for the ruling Este family. The elegant balconies were made with white stone and rest on corbels to carry the weight of the structure. On the ground floor, you find a series of Gothic rooms, one containing a scale model of the castle, complete with a drawbridge. A mural of the Nicola II d’Este decorates the wall and faces the entrance.

Venice – Luxuries of Getting Lost

Venice is a city made of labyrinthine walkways divided by canals. You can hear the water lapping at the edges of the walkways and piazzas. Alleys turn into passageways and secret photogenic corners. The Byzantine domes of St. Mark’s Basilica rise over the Grand Canal beneath the staggering bell tower. The tower’s top has a pyramidal spire and a golden weathervane.

Your guide escorts you through the artisanal beauty of the buildings, each unique to the city and its historic architecture. Over 45,638 square feet of gold mosaics decorate St. Mark’s Basilica’s domes, constructed in the 11th century. The faint aroma of myrrh swirls over the right transept. The famous Pala d’Oro altarpiece contains 1,300 pearls and 300 sapphires, along with emeralds and garnets. The grandeur of the cathedral, and its artwork embodies the devout nature of the craftsmen, in both work and religion.

Innsbruck – Alpine Village Life

The marvels of the gold-plated domes disappear behind the rising mountains. You venture through Brenner Pass taking you out of Italy and into the Austrian Alps at an elevation of 4,495 feet above sea level. Evergreen trees run along the hillsides and emanate a refreshing piney scent. Verdant grassland carpets the valley floor. You reach the charming city of Innsbruck, home to the 1964 Winter Olympics. The city sits in the Inn Valley surrounded by rugged mountains.

A jovial energy rushes through the streets underneath the staggering summit of Pascherkofel, at a height of 7,415 feet above sea level. The Court Church was constructed in the 16th century with Late Gothic design. The interior has three aisles and a narrow chancel. The Tomb of Emperor Maximilian I features a black marble sarcophagus and bronze representation of the emperor. Twenty-four marble reliefs surround the sarcophagus, each one a different scene from the emperor’s life. The elegance and detail of the artistry linger in your thoughts on your way to Munich.

Day  13 - 14

Munich – A German Postcard

In the morning, you venture outside of Munich and arrive at the polished medieval gem of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, which means “Above the Tauber River.” Meandering cobbled lanes connect to sporadically placed houses and towering walls. An indelible charm lifts from the pathways and emanates from the slanted wooden roofs. You expect the scents of chocolate and freshly baked cakes to waft out of every open door.

The Jakobskirche is Rothenburg’s 500-year-old Lutheran Church. The two exterior towers stand at an average of 185 feet tall and the vaulted ceilings create an immense sense of space. The Holy Blood altarpiece is known for its use of rock crystal to create the cross shimmering with light against the darkness of the meticulous wooden reliefs.

Rhineland – Waters of Rhineland

The Rhine River runs through the lush hills and valleys around the German landscape. You step aboard a riverboat for the best way to explore the scenery. The boat rides the current and drifts along the riverbanks. The stretch of the river is home to a unique collection of castles, gaining UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Status in 2002. The breeze blows softly bringing in the fragrance of the vivacious trees on the shore.

Your guide points to the hillside at the fabulously preserved Marksburg Castle in Braubach, the only hillside castle on the riverbanks never to have been destroyed. The castle was constructed in the 12th century and stands 528 feet above the valley. The slender tower stands as the castle’s highest point where you can see a flag billowing in the breeze.

Amsterdam – Years of the City

The canals bisect Amsterdam in a web of beauty, creating tranquil strolls and an extra roadway for people to explore. The city dates back to the 14th century, filled with elegant buildings pressed close together and painted with lively pastels. You can hear the trickling current of the canals in every neighborhood. Bridges meander over the water connecting every walkway and island.

West Church was erected in the 17th century with embellished Gothic features, both on the exterior and interior of the edifice. The tower rises to 280 feet in the air, the highest spire in the city. The spire tip contains a replica of the Austrian coat of arms. The interior holds a large marble column commemorating the artist Rembrandt whose tomb is now located inside the church. The serene quality of the church, and its surrounding neighborhood let you touch the city’s fascinating past.

Amsterdam – Europe and You

The morning washes over Amsterdam and the bright facades of the buildings begin to shine. The cobbled roads fill with people on bicycles making their way to work, school, or a nearby café. Boats wade on the gentle current in the canals. Spend time, this last morning, enjoying the city and its enchanting ambiance.

After breakfast, your private transfer meets you at the hotel and escorts you to the airport for your flight home. You have ventured through forests and over mountains and have traveled along ancient and medieval roads to discover the ineffable majesty of Europe.

10 day europe itinerary: germany, italy, switzerland + austria.

Want to travel to Europe, but only have 10 days? With this itinerary, you will get to see 4 European countries in as little as 10 days! Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Austria are all very close together, making it super easy to see them all.

This was my first trip abroad without my family, so I opted in for a tour with EF College Break .  What was so nice about this tour was that it was all college students, so I made a ton of friends and we did things my age group would enjoy. On top of all that, it was extremely inexpensive for all that we got to see!

If you want to do a tour, I would definitely recommend looking into EF College Break. If you want to explore Europe on your own time, you can still do this itinerary by yourself.

For all the self-guided travelers out there… I have an epic (yes, EPIC) itinerary to France where you will get to see all the highlights. This itinerary is self-guided where you get to see Paris, the French Riviera, Provence, and go champagne tasting in Champagne! You can read my 10 day France itinerary here !

Okay, you ready to read this amazing 10 day Europe Itinerary?!

When to go to Europe?

This is a tricky question that will completely depend on the type of trip you want.

Want to see the alps covered in snow and eat fondue? Winter will be best!

Want to avoid crowds? Early spring and late fall will be best!

Want to enjoy prime weather and loads of events? Summer will be best!

I traveled to Europe in late May and it was absolutely beautiful . The crowds were minimal in comparison to the high seasons of June-August, and the weather was ranging from 60-80 degrees (depending on the country). The crowds in Europe hot-spots (especially Venice) will be unbearably crowded. Before you book during the prime summer months, just take that into consideration!

Tour v. No Tour?

I think it depends on your budget and if you are traveling with someone. I didn’t feel comfortable driving in Europe at 19 years old, so the only other way to see multiple countries would be to take trains or fly, which can add up quick!

I loved this tour group because it was all college age students, so I made friends from all over the world and we did a lot of excursions people my age group would do. Also, this tour company gave us SO much free time so even if the tour doesn’t see everything you want, you still have the time to see it.

EF College Break Tour to Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany

Typically, I prefer to do self-guided travels because I can wake up as early as I want to see sights, mix and match what I want to see, eat when I want, etc. Of course there will be more stress planning your own trip abroad, but I think the benefit outweighs the cost!

What to Pack for Summer in Europe?

I keep a list of all my summer essentials and favorite finds on this guide here . I am constantly updated it after every warm destination – tried, true & tested! Also, I have a list of my 10 travel essentials I can’t live without, you can read those here !

As for specific things to pack for Europe, these are my top 3 must-have’s:

1. Travel Adapter

Yes, I know this is a very generic thing for a trip abroad, but this one is AMAZING. It is an all-in-one adapter that works on every country you will ever travel to. This is especially important with this itinerary because Switzerland doesn’t use the same plug as the rest of Europe! Click here for one that includes all of the USA, Europe, Australia and UK!

2. Curling Iron with dual voltage

True story… I was so confused about adapters and converters that I decided to just not buy a converter lol. When I turned on my blow dryer in this little hotel in Switzerland, I shut down the ENTIRE hotel because it burnt the circuits!! If you don’t want to worry about a confusing converter, I would just buy a dual voltage curling iron / blow dryer.  This will come in handy on any trip you will ever do! Click here for a dual voltage curling iron.

3. Packing Cubes

Guys, this is so important when you are bouncing around between multiple hotels. Packing cubes saved my LIFE when I did my 10 day France trip because I stayed in three different hotels. Here’s a free tip: Pack the clothes you want to wear in each city (AKA hotel), so that way you only need to take out that cube at that hotel. Most hotels in Europe are super tiny, so saving you room will be a total life saver! PLUS, when you are done wearing those dirty clothes, you can stick them back in the packing cube so they don’t touch your clean clothes! Click here for packing cubes!

BONUS: Anytime I travel to abroad, I always get travel insuranc e so I am covered during my trip. Europe is known for reckless driving and lots of protests, so you want to make sure you have insurance in case of an emergency. Confused on what travel insurance is? I have a lengthy guide that will explain it in great detail !

Itinerary Overview

Day 1: overnight flight.

  • Day 2: Munich Sight Seeing

Day 3: Neuschwanstein Castle

  • Day 4: Drive to Venice + Lunch in Austria
  • Day 5: Explore Venice
  • Day 6: Drive to Swizerland + lunch in Verona
  • Day 7: Explore Switzerland + Mt. Pilatus

Day 8: Drive to Frankfurt

  • Day 9: Explore Frankfurt
  • Day 10: Fly home! 🙁

10 Day Europe Itinerary

Hopefully your flight won’t be as long as mine, but usually the entire first day is wasted traveling due to the time change + flight length.

Not being able to sleep on planes makes it feel extra long too. Is anyone else as dorky as me and get too excited to sleep before a vacation?

TIP: Bring Melatonin on your flight to help you sleep! It’s an all-natural vitamin that doesn’t make you feel groggy when you wake up. This also will help you sleep the first few nights you arrive.

Day 2: Arrive in Munich

We arrived at 7am in the morning.. yes. 7am. It was a rough first day because the time zone difference from Las Vegas was a whopping NINE HOURS . The entire day will be spent keeping yourself as busy as possible to fight that jet lag!

Spend your free day in Munich seeing street performers, watching surfing competitions at The Eisbachwelle , strolling through the cities English Garden, and enjoy lunch and German beer at the Hofbrauhaus !

As you can imagine, the Hofbrauhaus is extremely touristy and always busy! It is a HUGE restaurant, but you still might need to wait to be seated. If you do, just spend some time exploring the nearby shops to start your souvenir shopping early 🙂

IMG_7029

End your first day in Germany with a Biergarten dinner at Zum Flaucher . There are SO many beirgartens in Germany that have outdoor seating, twinkly lights, picnic style seating and a relaxed atmosphere. Going to these for dinner was one of my favorite memories in Germany, so I would definitely make it a priority to go to one of them!

By far my favorite day out of the entire trip! This castle is unbelievably breathtaking. The Neuschwanstein ( say that ten times fast ) Castle is located less than 2 hours from Munich in a town called Hohenschwangau ( now say that 20 times fast ). You can either drive if you have a rental car, or there is a train that will take you from Munich to the castle in 2.5 hours. Click here to look at train times and prices! Or if navigating the trains terrifies you, you can sign up for a day trip with a tour company, click here for tour options .

Everything about Hohenschwangau just screams Disneyland. The adorable German Cottages (that people actually live in, oh my gosh!),  glistening blue lake, horse and carriage rides, and a real life sleeping beauty castle nestled up on the mountain. Look at the view of the town from above:

IMG_7046

Seriously though, this castle is the real life inspiration of the Disney movie, Sleeping Beauty. When you either walk or take your horse carriage ride to the top, you can take a tour of the castle and walk along the bridge to the castle viewpoint. From the viewpoint you are hanging on a bridge over a river that looks right at the castle and valley behind it. I have no words to explain how beautiful this place was.

neuschwanstein castle in Germany

Like this photo? Edit like me using my one-click Lightroom Presets !

After your castle tour , rent a paddle boat and enjoy the rest of the day on the lake! You can rent these for fairly inexpensive on the lake, no reservation needed. If you’re going with your significant other, grab picnic items from a local store and have lunch on your private boat. Or if you don’t have a significant other, a bff date will do just fine!

If you are planning a day trip from Munich like my tour did and more info, be sure to check out my friends guide on How to Visit Neuschwanstein Castle from Munich!

IMG_7042

If you’re not too jet-lagged, end your night going out to German clubs – which if your from Las Vegas like me, will find hilarious! They’re all like little disco bars where everyone is dancing the night away to old American music. Here are the tops clubs in Munich:

  • Harry Klein

I wish I could have spent more days in Germany because I was blown away by how beautiful it was! I loved the culture, food, greenery, and the amount of hidden gems! If you want to extend your Germany stay, I would recommend checking out this guide: Things to do in Cologne Germany!

Day 4: Drive to Venice

There’s no sugar-coating that the drive from Munich to Venice is long and brutal. But, the scenery is out of this world and will make the 6 hour drive go by a lot faster! If you are not driving, there are direct trains that will take you from Munich to Venice at around 7 hours. Click here to search for train times!

If you are driving to Venice, that perfect pit-stop is Salzburg, Austria. You can see this colorful town filled with cobblestone streets, that is located along a river in the middle of the Austrian Alps! There are endless restaurants to choose from, so I would recommend walking around until you find somewhere that looks welcoming 🙂

IMG_7043

We stayed in a small beach town outside of the actual island of Venice. I would highly recommend this because you get away from the touristy side of Venice to experience local restaurants and beaches. Doing this will make you feel like you are staying in an authentic Italian town with few tourists!

End your night indulging in pasta and pizza from the smallest hole in the wall you can find! And don’t forget about Italian gelato on the beach for dessert, because you’re in Italy! You’ve GOT TO have gelato everyday!

Pasta in Venice, Italy

Day 5: Venice

The city that’s on everyone’s bucket list, Venice! I’ve dreamed about riding a gondola down the grand canal since, well, forever. Once you take the brief ferry ride to Venice island, you’ll take a tour of Saint Mark’s Basilica and the Murano Glass Museum before getting lost in the winding streets and canals of the city.

If you want to see more during your time in Venice, here are some recommendations:

  • Sign up for a food tour
  • See the colorful streets of Burano
  • Take a private gondola ride through the smaller canals
  • Have lunch on the Grand Canal at De Pesis!
  • Take a day trip to Prosecco Hills for wine tasting

I spent the day just wandering the streets of Venice with no plan and it was amazing! I carelessly roamed the streets, ate WAY too much food, took a gondola ride (or two), got gelato from every shop I saw, & got too many souvenirs!

TIP: Dress appropriately for the churches or else you’ll be forced to buy paper ponchos and skirts to wear inside. You need to cover your shoulders and wear and appropriate length bottom to enter.

riding on a gondola in Venice, Italy

Day 6: Drive to Switzerland

Another long drive, but it doesn’t count as a drive when you are winding through the Swiss Alps. The drive from Venice to Lucerne is a little over 5 hours and the train is roughly 6.5 hours.

Swiss Alps

The good thing about driving is there are so many towns you can stop in to break up the drive and see more sights! I would recommend stopping in either Verona or Milan (or both!) before heading to Switzerland.

Verona is a small, quaint town that is home to Romeo & Juliette’s famous balcony! While you are there, stop at a farmers market or grab some street food to enjoy under their balcony.

Romeo and Juliette's Balcony in Verona, Italy

From Verona to Lucerne, it will be about 4 1/2 hours of pure beauty! You will wind up the mountains passing through tunnels carved into mountains. After every tunnel pass, the scenery will be completely different and even more beautiful.

Check into your hotel and head into town for some dinner. We spent an actual hour hunting down fondue for dinner, apparently fondue isn’t a thing in the summer!? People were making fun of us but who cares! WERE TOURISTS AND WERE PROUD! We eventually found a fondue spot and it was amazing to say the least.

Fondue in Lucerne, Switzerland

Day 7: Switzerland

Today you’ll be getting a little bit of everything. From adventure to beautiful scenery! Take the ferry over lake Lucerne to the gondola entrance for Mt. Pilatus . You’ll take the gondola up 7,000 ft (2132 meters) to get expansive views of the Swiss alps and Lake Lucerne.

Switzerland Gondola to Mt Pilatus

I know the weather is unpredictable, but really try to do this on a clear day so you can get unobstructed views from the top! Once you are up there, there will be walking and hiking trails, a souvenir shop and food stands for you to grab a bight to eat.

On the way down comes the fun part… the steepest railroad in the world has a seat with your name on it. I promise it doesn’t go too fast and doesn’t feel too old. You can also take the gondola down if the train terrifies you, but traveling is all about pushing you out of your comfort zone 🙂

Switzerland Gondola to Mt Pilatus

TIP: Don’t wear sandals to Mt. Pilatus because at the halfway point, there’s a type of “adventure park” with an alpine slide down the mountain, zip line and rope park. They are very strict at the zip line/rope park and will not let you on if you don’t have closed toe shoes!

Spend the afternoon hunting down some Swiss Chocolate for your loved ones back home, which is also very hard to find. I learned that everything I thought was stereotypical to Switzerland was just that, a stereotype.

Another day of driving and today’s pit stop will be the charming German village, Heidelberg. Are you all castled-out yet? Of course not! You’ll get to visit another older castle that is home to the world’s largest wine barrel!

The drive & train from Lucerne to Frankfurt is around 4 hours, but if you make a pit stop in Heidelberg for lunch, you will drive 3 hours and then 1 hour!

Castle in Heidelberg, Germany

Once you arrive in Frankfurt you’ll soon see that it is a BIG city with lots of nightlife! Spend your night going out the local bars and enjoy one of your last nights in Europe.

Day 9: Frankfurt

We had a free day before our farewell dinner home, so some fun things to do in Frankfurt would be the Museumsufer (a cluster of 12 museums), Frankfurt Cathedral , Romerburg (a square with medieval homes), Palmengarten , and getting some last minute souvenirs!

Romerburg Square, Frankfurt

Day 10: Fly Home

I can never sleep on planes mostly because I’m always too excited for the destination. I slept the entire 12 hour flight home, so that’s saying something about how “excited” I was to be going home!

Until next time Europe!

Before you go…. Want some more guides on Europe? I think you will love these!

Explore Neuschwanstein castle

Used as inspiration for Disney’s Cinderella film, the castle of Neuschwanstein stands with impossible grandeur in the hills of Bavaria’s Hohenschwangau district. Originally built for King Ludwig II who only spent 11 nights in the castle before his death, it now enchants visitors aplenty. Our trip to Germany would not be complete without it.

See the remnants of the Berlin Wall

Once dividing the German capital both physically and politically, what remains of the 155 kilometre long Berlin Wall has been largely dressed in thought-provoking graffiti. Feel the emotion of our visit, celebrating its symbolic demolition in 1989 and commemorating this dark patch in German history.

Embrace the Bavarian rich beer brewing heritage

Governed by a set of 16th century rules that determine purity, beer brewing in Germany is a cultural art form. Peel back the layers of beer culture to gain a deeper understanding of its significance, as we visit some of the 1300 breweries found here.

Go up the iconic Berlin TV Tower for 360° views

The Berliner Fernsehturm, or Berlin TV Tower, once stood as a proud statement of communist power. With democracy in place, we will take a trip to the top of the capital’s TV Tower to soak up the sentiment of a united city, admiring 360-degree views from the observation deck found at a height of 203 meters.

Admire the beautiful Baroque building façades in Dresden

The rebirth of Dresden since the bombings of 1945 is a testament to the German spirit of resilience. Connect with the intricacies of Baroque architecture whilst stepping into a pace of life found in many of the country’s boutique cities.

Our top 5 things to do in Germany

When you explore Germany with Trafalgar,  we'll connect you with Bavarian beer heritage, nostalgic castles, Baroque architecture and political complexities.

Stasi Museum

The blurred political history of Germany is uncovered within the stark walls of the Stasi Museum. Once the headquarters of East Germany’s Ministry for State Security, it now stands as a memorial and research centre. Germany tours are scarcely complete without a trip to Stasi.

Residenz Museum

Peel back the layers of German opulence with a step into the former home of Bavarian royalty. A well-timed visit to the Residenz Museum complex will see you watching a performance by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. On any other day, be awe-struck by the grandeur of the palace’s ten courtyards and 130 display rooms.

Oranienburg

Memorial & Museum Sachsenhausen

Visit a Nazi concentration camp and you will begin to understand the deeply moving stories of Germany's troubled historical past. Not for the faint of heart, Memorial & Museum Sachsenhausen in Oranienburg will walk you through a mortuary, execution trenches and prison cells. The enormity of suffering remains thick in the air.

Best museums in Germany

Packed with breathtaking moments and cultural significance, museum hopping is an important part of any trip to Germany. With Trafalgar, you'll step from the tumultuous past to the progressive present to understand the complete German story.

Best food in Germany

An indulgent sausage tour is hard to resist in Germany, particularly when washing wursts down with local beer. Trafalgar will guide you through the goodness of this meaty cuisine, always laden with condiments, always satisfying.

A simple pork sausage first steamed and then fried, it’s the lashings of curry ketchup that make currywurst unique. This fast food local favorite is enjoyed with hot potato chips and a local beer, while standing and engaging in a chat with some locals.Add an additional layer of curry powder for extra kick.

Slightly less indulgent than the currywurst, a weisswurst sausage is typically made of veal and pork and warmed in water without complete cooking or frying. Eat the near-raw weisswurst as a mid-morning snack served alongside warm pretzels.

Schweininshaxe

Roasted pork knuckle is an adored culinary dish found across Germany. Often left to marinate for around a week before being slowly roasted at low temperatures, Schweininshaxe is a labour of love. Appreciate yours over a leisurely meal lasting many hours.

What to pack for Germany

People packing for a tour

Otto Wolff’s guide to German food

Gelbwurst, rindswurst. Kartoffelpuffer, kartoffelkloesse. German food can be a mouthful before the dish has been served. The Wurst! By Otto Wolff will guide you through the very best of German cuisine.

An eye for fairytale architecture

Most sources claim that over 20,000 castles can be found across the hills of Germany. Allow this trip to inspire childhood nostalgia with its fairytale architecture.

Digital maps

It's always good to have a backup of digital maps on standby when you're out exploring in your own time. Download them prior to your trip so you can reach them even when your phone is offline.

Travel adaptor

Though many hotels will have adaptors available for use, being prepared with your own will ensure you're always charged and ready to go.

Traditional costume

Oktoberfest is not the only time that traditional dress could be called upon in Germany. Travelers looking to connect closer to the culture may like to pack the 19th century German attire of a Dirndl or lederhosen.

Pack for sustainable travel

Consider your environmental impact when you next take a trip and go single-use-plastic-free by packing a reusable water bottle, a steel straw, your own shopping bags and toiletry bottles.

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

After a majestic line of shows in Milan, Italy, Taylor Swift is set to take her caravan to Germany from July 17 to 20. However, Swifties are curious whether her beau, star NFL player Travis Kelce , will accompany her on the tour.

Here is everything fans need to know about Kelce’s possible plans for Swift’s Germany leg of the Eras Tour.

Is Travis Kelce joining Taylor Swift in Germany?

Travis Kelce might join Taylor Swift for her Eras Tour show in Germany. However, the Kansas City Chiefs star has not confirmed this yet.

Kelce has accompanied Taylor Swift since she resumed her Eras Tour this year. He interacted with Swifties at her Singapore leg, served his charming looks, and exchanged friendship bracelets with them. Kelce has been one of the biggest highlights of Swift’s shows.

However, the NFL star wasn’t able to watch his sweetheart perform in Milan as he was reportedly busy. According to Elle Magazine , while Swift was rocking Milan with her singing prowess, Kelce was back in the US for a golf tournament. The NFL tight end participated in the American Century Championship alongside his brother Jason Kelce . In clips posted by NBC Sports on X (formerly known as Twitter), fans can see him vibing to Taylor Swift’s song “Lavender Haze.”

Will Travis Kelce appear on stage during the Germany Eras Tour?

It is not confirmed that Travis Kelce will appear on stage at Taylor Swift’s Germany shows; however, fans have their hopes up.

Kelce’s stint at Swift’s London show at Wembley Stadium has become one of the most memorable moments of her Eras Tour. According to People , on June 23, 2024, Kelce took part in a stage act for Taylor Swift’s outfit transition for the song “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” Kelce donned a black tuxedo with a top hat, playing his part in the skit and making the crowd go wild. In the concluding act, he swept Swift off her feet and carried her backstage.

Taylor Swift jokes she may have broken the acoustic set piano after an onstage malfunction in Milan

germany to italy tour

Taylor Swift joked that she may have finally broken her flower-painted piano during the acoustic section of night two in Milan, Italy .

"So the acoustic section is the part of the show that I look forward to every single night because it's always different," Swift said starting with her guitar song selection. As she noodled some chords at the end of the Eras Tour catwalk , she said, "It's also an opportunity for me to hang out with you wild people back here."

Swift then dove into a mashup of "Mr. Perfectly Fine" from "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" and the title track from "Red (Taylor's Version)." The light-up wristbands coated the San Siro Stadium in bright cherry red.

"That's why he's spinning round in my head, comes back to me burning red and you're Mr. Perfectly Fine," Swift ended fervently strumming the final few notes of the mixed songs.

She exchanged her six-stringed instrument with 88 keys.

"If you're liking the song selection from tonight, you can thank the crowd from last night," she said at the piano. "You've been so generous to us. You've made us feel so at home here. It's really been an unforgettable experience and so … I really just wanted to figure out songs to play that you'd want to hear the most."

Swift played "Getaway Car" from "Reputation" and the crowd roared. One line in, she paused after a chord sounded incorrect. A production hand came on stage as the wristbands turned bright green to assist. He opened the top of the piano which wouldn't close. Swift said she didn't need it to close and when he left, she quipped, "We have finally broken this thing."

"This is all completely..." she started to say while pushing on the piano top and it closed. She went back into the "Reputation" track and Swifties in the audience loved it.

After the first chorus, she asked, "Did I choose correctly?"

The Italian crowd roared. She blended in "Out of the Woods" from "1989 (Taylor's Version)."

So far in the Eras Tour, Swift hasn't played 17 songs from her 11 studio albums. Her next concert city is Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
