Disgraced former talk show host and lesbian icon Ellen DeGeneres is back in the news thanks to a new show called “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up Tour” beginning this month in Los Angeles, California.

Back in the Spotlight

After a two-year-long break, Ellen returns to the spotlight at the Coronet Theater in West Hollywood with her first stop on a new stand-up comedy tour.

The First Public Appearance

This new show is Ellen’s first public appearance since withdrawing from the entertainment industry due to serious workplace allegations.

Workplace Allegations

If you don’t remember or have never heard the story, several of Ellen’s employees said that the show’s environment was extremely toxic, and the host herself was the target of a slew of allegations.

Verbal Abuse

Thankfully, none of the allegations involved any physical harm or abuse from Ellen, but employees reported a constant fear thanks to Ellen’s “racism, fear, and intimidation” according to BuzzFeed News.

Experiencing the Toxicity

Reflecting on his time on the show, the long-standing DJ said he, too, “did experience and feel the toxicity of the environment.”

The Bigger Scandal

Another reason the show was taken off the air, which strangely received far less media attention, was three of the show’s top executive producers being accused of sexual misconduct.

Taking the Blame

Unfortunately for Ellen, the executive’s misconduct was largely unreported and didn’t seem to grab audiences’ attention, so the majority of the show’s cancellation was blamed on Ellen herself. 

A Temporary Pause

Back in 2022, when the show was ending, Ellen described the show’s conclusion not as an end but as a pause, suggesting a temporary pause rather than a permanent goodbye. 

A Little Break

 When signing off from the show for the last time, Ellen said, “Today is not the end of a relationship, it’s more of a little break.”

Never Coming Back

However, based on what Ellen said in her new stand-up show, this was far from a short break, and her show is never coming back.

A Shifting Opinion

During her recent performance, DeGeneres openly discussed the shift in her perspective on public opinion, which she originally faced with indifference until it started to turn against her.

Ellen said, “I used to say that I didn’t care what other people thought of me,” but she also said that at “ the height of (her) popularity.”

Playing the Stereotype

From her show, it would seem that it was actually much easier not to worry about what people thought of her when most people just thought of her as the stereotypical lesbian with a talk show.

Easier Said Then Done

However, spending the last two years shunned from the public would suggest that she realized it is no longer so simple to not care what people think of you.

A One-Dimensional Character

During the new show, Ellen said, “I became this one-dimensional character who gave stuff away and danced up steps.“

A Couple character

It would seem that after reflecting on her time and what happened, Ellen feels as though the complexity of her character was lost and her jovial, fun persona is all anyone expected her to be.

Pleasantly Surprised

“Do you know how hard it is to dance up steps? Would a mean person dance up steps? Had I ended my show by saying, ‘Go f**k yourself,’ people would’ve been pleasantly surprised.”

Goodbye to the Fans

Though I can appreciate her point, It’s hard to say whether Ellen’s many fans who grew to love her “one-dimensional persona” would have appreciated such a crass final goodbye. 

Not Her First Rodeo

However, in the new show, she pointed out that this isn’t the first time she’s faced this kind of controversy.

Navigating Fame

Ellen originally got her fame by starring in a sitcom, and it was on that sitcom that she actually came out of the closet and almost instantly became the most famous lesbian of 90’s America, with all the backlash that comes with it.

Second and Maybe Third

Ellen said, “For those of you keeping score, this is the second time I’ve been kicked out of show business, Eventually they’re going to kick me out for a third time because I’m mean, old, and gay.”

Coming Back Again

To say she might be kicked out a third time seems a little presumptuous, considering she hasn’t exactly been accepted back just yet. Still, the point that this isn’t her first time being shunned does give her more credibility that it might be too soon to count Ellen’s staying power out entirely.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. (AP) — More than a dozen people suffered mostly minor injuries when a tram used for tours crashed into a railing at Universal Studios Hollywood near Los Angeles, authorities and the company said.

Los Angeles County Fire Department units responded shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday to the theme park in Universal City, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) northwest of downtown LA, the agency said in a social media post.

The California Highway Patrol said that while the tram was negotiating a turn, its last car collided with a metal guardrail, “causing it to tilt and eject multiple passengers.”

The fire department said 15 people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. The highway patrol’s statement on Sunday said some of the injuries were moderate, but didn’t specify a number.

Universal Studios Hollywood said in a statement Sunday afternoon that tours have resumed with a modified route.

“Our thoughts continue to be with the guests who were involved, and we are thankful that based on agency reports, the injuries sustained were minor. We are working closely with public agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, as we continue our review of the incident and safety remains a top priority,” the statement said.

The highway patrol, which is leading the investigation, said alcohol and drugs were not considered a factor.

The tram circuit, called the World-Famous Studio Tour, offers a glimpse behind the scenes of Universal movies including “Jaws” and Jordan Peele’s “Nope.” The theme park will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the tour starting Friday.

Today (April 30), Colde revealed the cities and venues for his massive 20-date 2024 North America tour, titled ‘Blueprint’, which will features concerts in both the US and Canada.

The singer will kick off his tour on August 15 with a show at The Fillmore Minneapolis in Minnesota. It will be followed by concerts in states on the East Coast, including New York, Maryland and Florida. In the same month, he will also perform in the Canadian cities of Toronto and Montreal.

In September 2024, Colde will bring his ‘Blueprint’ North America tour to the rest of the US, notably with four shows in California and two concerts in Texas, among others. The singer will then wrap up his tour with a final concert in Vancouver on the 21st.

Tickets to Colde’s 2024 ‘Blueprint’ North America tour will go on sale this Friday (May 3) at 10am local time via Ticketmaster.

Hannah Green surges to win LPGA’s LA Championship for second straight year

Hannah Green won the LPGA Tour’s JM Eagle LA Championship for the second straight year Sunday, holing out twice from off the greens in a pivotal back-nine stretch at challenging Wilshire Country Club.

A year after making a 25-foot birdie on the final hole of regulation and winning on the second hole of a playoff, Green — with help from Maja Stark — took the late drama out of this one for her fifth LPGA Tour victory and second of the year.

“It’s really kind to me,” Green said about the course. “I felt like a couple times today almost got like a member bounce. I, obviously, really am fond of the golf club and joked that they didn’t approve it with me that they were making alterations. I love it here.”

Green closed with a five-under 66 to beat Stark by three strokes. The 27-year-old Australian, also a winner last month in Singapore, finished with a 12-under 272 on the tree-lined layout with poa annua greens that become bumpy late in the day.

Green began the key run with a chip-in birdie on the par-three 12th and made a six-foot birdie putt on the par-five 13th. Then, after Stark bogeyed the par-four 16th two groups ahead, Green ran in a 25-footer for eagle from the fringe on 13 to open a four-stroke lead, and made it five under in five holes with a birdie on 16.

“When I chipped in on 12 I kind of felt like I really snagged one there,” Green said. “I really like the 13th hole and also played the 15th really well. When I made eagle on 15, that kind of sealed the deal. I did see Maja got it to nine under so I know what I needed to do. Usually, I make it really tricky on myself and only win by a shot.”

Stark finished with a 68, rebounding from the bogey on 16 to birdie the final two holes. The 24-year-old Swede also finished second last week in The Chevron Championship, two strokes behind top-ranked Nelly Korda in the first major of the year.

“I’m really proud of the way I’ve played,” Stark said. “I feel like I’ve hit a lot of good shots and I feel like my nerves kind of took over for a little while, but I was always able to get back to the normal — my normal state of mind.”

Haeran Ryu (69) was third at six under, followed by fellow South Korean players Jin Young Ko (67) and Jin Hee Im (72) at five under.

Grace Kim, four strokes ahead entering the weekend after opening rounds of 64 and 66 and tied with Green for the lead after a third-round 76, finished with a 77 to tie for 25th at one under. She failed to make a birdie the final two days.

Korda withdrew from the event Monday, a day after her record-tying fifth straight victory.
