Hall and oates are on tour in 2023…separately. get tickets today..

Daryl Hall (L) and John Oates are going on separate solo tours in 2023. Here, they're jamming out together onstage.

We’re here to sort of “Make Your Dreams Come True.”

In 2023, Daryl Hall and John Oates are going on tour — just not together.

From May 24 through June 9, Daryl Hall and the Daryl’s House Band are taking off on an eight-concert tour that includes stops in Montclair, NJ on May 24, Port Chester, NY on June 7 and Atlantic City, NJ on June 9.

His bandmate, John Oates will play five spring shows in California, Nashville and Chicago from April 13 through May 25.

At the time of publication, none of Oates’ shows are scheduled to take place in the Northeast.

No word on whether either Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will appear at each other’s shows either.

With that being said, if you want to see half of Hall and Oates — Hall or Oates — here’s everything you need to know.

Daryl Hall 2023 tour schedule

A complete calendar including all tour dates and venues for Hall’s eight 2023 concerts can be found below.

John Oates 2023 tour schedule

A complete calendar of all John Oates tour dates is listed below.

Daryl Hall new music

Hall went old school in 2022 and dropped the rare double album.

“Before After,” comprised of 30 tracks, features Hall’s signature classic sound — the indefinable center between pop and rock.

If you want to hear the double album in its entirety, you can find “Before After” here .

John Oates new music

Last year, Oates dropped just one song — the sensual single “Pushin’ A Rock” that sounds like it could fit in a playlist next to “She’s Gone,” “Maneater” and “Rich Girl.”

In 2023, Oates went a bit more downtempo. Thus far in this young year, he’s released just one song, the ballad “Disconnected.”

You can hear both songs here .

Hall and Oates Confirm Rescheduled 2021 Tour Dates

Hall & Oates confirmed their upcoming 2021 tour schedule, rerouting the remaining dates that were previously postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The band's North American trek is currently scheduled to kick off April 17 in Indio, Calif., and continues April 23 in Honolulu; April 25 in Kahului, Hawaii; and May 21 and 22 in Mashantucket, Ct. Their stint  featuring openers Squeeze and KT Tunstall commences Aug. 5 in Mansfield, Mass., and wraps Oct. 5 in Mountain View, Calif. The band's Oct. 7 stop in Portland, Ore., features only Tunstall.

You can see the dates below. Full ticket info is available at the band's website .

John Oates dismissed two popular touring strategies in a 2020 Rolling Stone interview, saying he doesn't like the idea of full-album or "farewell" runs. "I don't think we'd ever do a farewell tour," he said. "Every farewell tour I've ever heard about didn't turn out to be a farewell tour, so I don't know what the hell that means. Sure, if it's a marketing ploy, hey, why not? Everyone needs a hook. Everyone need a shtick. Whatever."

In that same interview, the guitarist noted that Hall & Oates had entered the "early, preliminary days" of a new LP, with Daryl Hall working in Europe with "some young producers he'd getting kind of energized with."

Hall then followed up on that comment in April with UCR, saying he'd worked on seven songs with Dutch producer Jett Rebel, whom he'd met while in Holland playing a festival.

"He literally just came up to me and said, 'Hey, man, I’m a giant fan of yours,' and we just started talking," Hall said. "He gave me a CD of himself, and I went back and went online and listened to what he was doing, and I went, 'This guy is really good.' I started contacting him and we had email conversations."

Hall also noted that he's been "channeling himself" on his latest music: "I think of my own catalog and my own songs, and that can go a lot of different directions."

Daryl Hall and John Oates are the NUMBER-ONE SELLING DUO in music history!

Beginning as two devoted disciples of earlier soul greats, Daryl Hall & John Oates are today soul survivors in their own rights. They have become such musical influences on future generations of popular artists that Spin Magazine’s September 2006 cover headline read: “Why Hall and Oates are the New Velvet Underground.” One of the most sampled artists today, their impact can be heard everywhere from boy band harmonies to neo-soul to rap-rock fusion.

Signed to Atlantic by Ahmet Ertegun in the early 1970s, Daryl Hall & John Oates have sold more records than any other duo in music history. Their 1973 album, Abandoned Luncheonette , produced by Arif Mardin, yielded the Top 10 single, “She’s Gone,” which also went to #1 on the R&B charts when it was covered by Tavares. The duo recorded one more album with Atlantic, War Babies (produced by Todd Rundgren) before they signed to RCA. Their tenure at RCA would catapult Daryl and John to international superstardom.

From the mid-’70s to the mid-’80s, the duo would score six #1 singles, including “Rich Girl,”, “Kiss on My List,” “Private Eyes,” “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” (also #1 R&B), “Maneater” and “Out of Touch” from six multi-platinum albums—’76’s Bigger Than Both of Us , ’80’s Voices , ’81’s Private Eyes , ’82’s H2O , ’83’s Rock ’N Soul, Part 1 and ’84’s Big Bam Boom . The era would also produce an additional 8 Top 10 singles: “Sara Smile,” “You Make My Dreams (Come True),” “Did It In a Minute,” “Family Man,” “One on One,” “Say It Isn’t So,” “Adult Education” and “Method of Modern Love.”

By 1984, the R.I.A.A. recognized Daryl Hall and John Oates as the number-one selling duo in music history, a record they still hold today.

In 1985 singer Paul Young covered the Daryl-written Voices album track “Everytime You Go Away,” scoring a #1 hit and helping to establish the song as a modern standard. That same year, Daryl and John participated in the historic “We Are the World” session, reopened the legendary Apollo Theatre in the company of their heroes David Ruffin & Eddie Kendricks of the Temptations, and closed the globally broadcast Live Aid show in Philadelphia.

Across the succeeding decades, Daryl and John have continued to record and tour both individually and together, while their self-composed songs have evolved from current hits to timeless classics. In 2003, Daryl Hall and John Oates were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, followed by their 2014 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Daryl Hall’s latest project is the multi-award-winning monthly web series and TV show, Live from Daryl’s House , which pairs him with friends, contemporaries, influences and devotees for spontaneous performances and a behind the scenes glimpse into artists at work and play. He also opened “Daryl’s House,” a restaurant and music club in Pawling, NY. “Daryl’s House,” which also serves as the backdrop for Live From Daryl’s House , aims to combine top-notch food with amazing live performances.

John Oates released his memoir, Change Of Seasons (St. Martin’s Press) in 2017. Relying on his many handwritten journals, he brings to light many fascinating stories, ranging over his entire life, with a journalist’s eye and a poet’s heart. John is creatively involved in the Nashville music scene, producing and writing for video and film projects as well as contributing to raising awareness for “Feeding America” through online virtual concerts.

Demonstrating the duo’s massive popularity across decades, generations and listening formats, in 2020 Daryl and John celebrated a milestone 1 billion streams of “You Make My Dreams (Come True).” Ubiquitous in films, commercials and playlists, the song encapsulates the essential and enduring appeal of Daryl Hall & John Oates. Their music makes people feel good. Always has, always will.

Daryl Hall is what dreams are made of for Music. Whomever he sings with is the icing on the cake. He just makes music better, performers better, musicians better. I followed his career and most concerts where I could attend. My family became instant big fans. Was also there the night of the Grand Opening Of Daryls House in New York with John Oates. Also saw him many times in New York and Pa.

Daryl when you come to Orlando this summer have Rumer and Todd Rundgren with you also. Let me know. and Thank you for the Music and lyrics. Teresa Asaro

Although Daryl Hall is consistently committed to the duo Hall & Oates, he does occasionally take to the road solo to air some of his own releases as well as covers from his infamous band. Considered to be one of the most gifted songwriters of the 20th century, it seemed pretty natural for Daryl to have a side project throughout the career and he collaborated often with esteemed producer Robert Fripp.

Although Hall & Oates have a larger pull for the fanbase, the venue is still packed out tonight for Daryl's solo headline show and as he steps onto the stage the whole audience cheer largely. He hand selects his own personal favourite work from the discography including the sincere 'Eyes for You (Ain't No Doubt About It)' along with the recognisable Hall & Oates tracks such as 'Private Eyes' and 'Man-eater'. The audience watches on in quiet anticipation as Hall keeps the show pacy before culminating in 'I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)' which has the whole room singing. He has saved two gems for the encore of 'Rich Girl' and 'You Make My Dreams' before he exits to even larger applause than when he appears.

John Oates on life after Hall & Oates

Daryl Hall (left) and John Oates (center) with saxophonist Charles DeChant during a performance at the HoagieNation festival in 2021.

There’s a song on John Oates’ new album Reunion about a renowned musical duo that stayed together for decades even as their relationship became strained. But the name of the song is not “Daryl Hall & John Oates.”

Instead, it’s called “Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee.” Written by Oates and Joe Henry, it’s inspired by the great folk-blues duo Oates was a fan of growing up in North Wales, when his tastes were shaped by visits to the Philadelphia Folk Festival and the Uptown Theater on North Broad Street.

Now, Oates is headlining this year’s Folk Fest at the Old Pool Farm on Aug. 17, as the annual gathering returns after a hiatus last year, marking the first time it was not held in any form since 1962.

Oates made headlines last November when his rift with Hall — with whom he founded the Philadelphia pop-soul group that scored hits like “Sara Smile,” “You Make My Dreams,” “Rich Girl,” and many more — went public amid a rancorous legal battle. That partnership is over and done with, said Oates, speaking via Zoom from his home in Woody Creek, Colo.

Hall & Oates is “absolutely” finished, said the singer and guitarist who co-wrote many of the band’s best-loved songs and sang lead on “She’s Gone” and “How Does It Feel To Be Back.”

“Fifty years is a long time to be together with anybody,” he said.

He’s actually understating the length of the union: the duo first met as Temple University students at the Adelphi Ballroom in West Philadelphia in 1967. Two years later, they formed their own group, and released a first album, Whole Oats, in 1972.

“A house that’s divided isn’t strong enough to stand,” Oates sings on the gently captivating “Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee.” “Nothing gets decided by drawing lines in the sand.”

Was it written with tension between Hall and Oates in mind? It was, Oates says. But not consciously.

Terry, a harmonica player who died in 1986, and McGhee, a guitarist who died 10 years later, “grew to dislike each other,” Oates says. “They had a bad relationship. But then one of them lost his eyesight and the other lost his ability to walk. And they literally needed each other to get on stage.

“I wanted to write a story about lending a helping hand and make it a metaphor for kindness. And then I realized that deep down psychologically I had been processing this situation between Daryl and myself. I was exorcising things that had been going on in my life.”

Oates is glad that it happened accidentally. Had he addressed the split in more specific terms, “it would either have fallen flat or sounded bitter and vindictive,” he said.

And he’s neither of those things, “not about Daryl Hall or my relationship with him or not working with him. In fact, I’m very happy about it because I think I’ve freed myself and, in a sense, I’ve freed Daryl to be whoever we can be in the later stages of our creative life. It’s a gift in a way.”

Hall & Oates’ last album of original music was Do It For Love in 2003. But they continued touring, and in 2009 played one of the final shows at the Spectrum. I asked Hall how they avoided hating each other after so many years.

“Ever talk to a couple that’s been together for 40 years?” he answered. “They go beyond hate. No, the truth is in any successful relationship, you have to have a certain freedom to be the person you are.”

The duo was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, and their HoagieNation festival launched in 2017. But it failed to return in 2022 and Hall and Oates played their final show in Laughlin, Nev., in October 2022.

Recent tours “were never uncomfortable,” Oates said. “We always got along very well on the surface.” But he was frustrated, “because I had to wear two different hats” and “couldn’t commit to either thing 100 percent. At a certain point, I said, ‘I have to do something else.’”

He gets that Hall & Oates fans are disappointed.

“People are always heartbroken when a long-term relationship falls apart. I understand people have a fondness for the memories they associate with the music they love and grew up with. I do, too. And I can’t deny the powerful emotions that I’ve been feeling, dealing with departing from a 50-year relationship. A friendship. It’s a big deal.”

BMI to Honor John Oates with 2024 Troubadour Award on Sept. 16th

Invitation-Only Event at BMI Nashville to Feature One-of-a-Kind Performances Highlighting Oates’ Genre-Bending Career

NASHVILLE, TN – Aug. 13, 2024 - BMI will recognize music legend, John Oates , for his mastery of the American musical landscape by presenting him with its coveted Troubadour Award on Sept. 16th. The prestigious accolade recognizes a songwriter who has made a profound impact on the creative community as their craft continues to set the pace for generations to follow. As one half of the best-selling rock duo of all time, Oates’ massive popularity spans across five decades, generations and listening formats as he continues to carve a significant presence in Nashville and beyond.

“John Oates has enriched Nashville and its music scene with his special blend of soulful storytelling and guitar playing,” Nashville’s VP of Creative, Clay Bradley said. “His influence has elevated our community to be more accepting and open to all genres of music. We are proud to honor him as this year’s BMI Troubadour.”

After moving to Nashville in 2010, the “classic American songbook enthusiast” ( The Tennessean ) rekindled his passion for music by revisiting his inspirations historic roots. ABOUT JOHN OATES: John Oates, co-founder of the legendary group Hall & Oates, is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the American Songwriters Hall of Fame a BMI Icon award winner and has won numerous American Music, MTV awards, and multiple Grammy nominations. As part of Hall & Oates he has recorded 21 albums, scored 10 number one records, over 20 Top 40 hits which have sold over 80 million units, making them the most successful duo in rock history. In 2017 he released an autobiography “Change of Season” that became an Amazon Best Seller. Singing from the time he could talk and playing the guitar since the age of five, John Oates was destined to be a musician. Born in New York City, his family moved to a small town outside of Philadelphia, PA in the early 1950s. His earliest musical memories were formed by listening to his parents Big Band and Swing music from the 1940s. Since the early 1950s John’s life has paralleled the evolution of Rock and American Popular music. He draws influence from the beginnings of rock and roll and later the nascent roots music of the early 1960s folk revival as well as the classic soul and R&B of that same era. His most recent recording “Reunion” showcases his songwriting, production and instrumental skills from his fifty plus years as a professional musician. John continues to tour worldwide with an intimate acoustic “Evening of Songs and Stories” style performance that has garnered rave reviews.

Founded in 1981 by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter John Prine, Oh Boy Records won the A2IM Libera Award in 2022 for small record label of the year. Oh Boy’s catalog features albums from Prine, including 2018’s “The Tree of Forgiveness,” as well as Kelsey Waldon, Swamp Dogg, Alice Randall’s “My Black Country,” Arlo McKinley, Emily Scott Robinson, and Tré Burt.

Upcoming releases from core Oh Boy artist Dan Reeder, whose new album “Smithereens” will be out in October, and recent signing Palmyra, will be among the first new Oh Boy titles to be handled by SD’s global team and distribution network.

“Oh Boy is thrilled to be able to join Secretly Distribution at this time of growth and expansion for both companies,” said Jody Whelan, managing partner of Oh Boy Records. “We’ve long been fans of the artists they work with, but in getting to know their team it also quickly became clear that Secretly holds dear the same independent values; the values that have fueled Oh Boy since its inception in 1981, and have seen Secretly Distribution build a truly independent global distribution network. The exhibit will also survey the history of the institution and its most important moments, while also illustrating Latin music’s creative complexity and enduring cultural impact.
