REVIEW: Caamp “Lavender Days”

Caamp got the inspiration for the title of their latest album, Lavender Days , from periods of time in life that present “small pleasures and forgotten disappointments” – the kind of days that may not leave an immediate mark but end up resonating far down the line. After two-plus years of life-defining events – for the band’s primary songwriter, Taylor Meier, and for just about all of us – it’s an unexpected comfort to recall the little things that make up most of life.

Lavender Days begins with an invitation of sorts – “Come With Me Now” implores its partner to “Come with me to the creek, darlin’/I got something to show you.” Caamp’s trademark Americana-meets-old time string band sound fully kicks in (after a beer is audibly cracked) with the second track, “Believe,” full of big guitar strums and a wide-open plan for the day – “And when that sun shines through ‘til the break of dawn/Baby grab the keys and leave the dogs at home,” describing a day shading toward the happy side of lavender.

True to its mission, and somewhat countering Caamp’s consistent head-toward-the-big-horizon sound, Lavender Days takes note of the little things, both good and not-so. “Apple Tree Blues,” a bouncy, banjo-laced tune, argues for chasing happiness, damn the consequences – “Tell me all the things you want to do but you can’t/’Cause you’re going to hell.” “Fever” is a bluesy number (featuring pop-ins from Nathaniel Rateliff and Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee fame) deals with the mysterious nature of occasional depression – “Many times I’ve been down/Many times I’ve been low/Many times pulled under by a weight I don’t quite know” – while acknowledging that a bounce-back is always right around the corner – “Go now, rise up like a fever/And give us a brand new day.” And “Lavender Girl,” the emotional crux of the record, finds a reason for surviving all of those ups and downs – “I’ve never danced, ‘til I danced with you my love/Couldn’t hear the music, but I’m sure it was good stuff.” Bolstered by gorgeous guitar and banjo interplay and the best group vocals on the record, even the sad moments bring a kind of melancholy joy – “I’ve never looked into eyes as clear as yours/And every time I lose it, nothing matters more.” Lavender Days doesn’t aspire to be the “feel-good” album of the year, but manages to accomplish something even more rewarding – being a feel-normal album. After the past few years, we deserve that.

Song I Can’t Wait to Hear Live: “Believe” – Layering on vocals on instruments and climaxing in a wistful guitar solo, it would be a great way to start a show…

Lavender Days was written by Caamp with Beatriz Artola (additional production by Brad Cook), recorded by Brandon MacLean, Jon Ashley and Cook, mixed by Artola and mastered by Bob Ludwig. Caamp is Taylor Meier (vocals, guitars, Mellotron, percussion), Evan Westfall (harmony vocals, banjo, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, drums, Mellotron), Matt Vinson (harmony vocals, electric bass, double bass, baritone guitar) and Joe Kavalec (piano, Rhodes, organ, keyboards). All songs were written by the band – lyrics by Meier and Vinson. Additional musicians on the record include Phil Cook (piano, keyboards), Matthew McCaughan (drums, percussion), Jon Ashley (drums), Nick Sanborn (accordion) Liz Fisher (violin), Katie Crutchfield (harmony vocals) and Nathaniel Rateliff (harmony vocals).

Atwood Magazine - For the Love of Music

Interview: Enjoying the ‘Lavender Days’ with Ohio’s Caamp

CAAMP © Sophia Matinazad

Caamp’s Evan Westfall discuss the creation of the folk band’s third album ‘Lavender Days’, a record filled with songs of nostalgia and finding the beauty in life’s often overlooked in-betweens.

Stream: “lavender girl” – caamp.

W hen you think of the color lavender, you think comfort and confidence. There is a certain calm it brings even within the most chaotic of times. It’s happiness and it’s entirely unique, on an island of its own that brings the most specific of memories and feelings.. It’s a state of mind that Caamp has encapsulated with their latest album Lavender Days.

Lavender Days - CAAMP

I’ve never danced, till I danced with you my love couldn’t hear the music, but I’m sure it was good stuff I’ve never sang with a tear falling from my eye And every time I lose it, oh and I’m not afraid to cry

I’d never spoke to one like you before told you all my secrets, and you wanted more i’ve never looked into eyes as clear as yours and every time i lose it, nothing matters more, – “ lavender girl ,” caamp.

Released June 24, 2022 via By and By Records / Mom + Pop Music, Lavender Days is Caamp’s highly anticipated and long-awaited third studio album, arriving a full three years after 2019’s sophomore LP, By and By . “ Why lavender?” Caamp’s lead singer Taylor Meier asks. “It’s nostalgic. It can remind you of your grandmother’s perfume or maybe the air freshener in your mom’s car. It can summon up all of these incredible memories and transport you to those in-between days, which I think everybody remembers with more clarity than the big events.”

Caamp © Sophia Matinazad

Lavender Days is filled with songs of nostalgia and finding the beauty in not the big moments of life, but the in-between, which is often taken for granted.

Since their 2016 debut, Caamp have grown in members and in sound. While they always had and still do carry a sound and a feeling that cannot be replicated, with Lavender Days they have caught a groove that not only will keep their loyal listeners coming back for more, but will also be sure to expand their fanbase and catapult their success even further.

I believe in you baby And I’ll always be around I believe in you baby I won’t let you hit the ground

And when that sun shines through to the break of dawn you better grab the keys and leave the dogs at home, oh, – “ believe ,” caamp.

Atwood Magazine sat down with Caamp’s cofounder and resident banjo player Evan Westfall to discuss the creation of Lavender Days , their latest tour, and why he is so excited about the band’s future.

Stream: ‘lavender days’ – caamp, a conversation with caamp.

Lavender Days - CAAMP

Evan Westfall : Thank you so much! I remember that show, it was a cool little town.

Evan Westfall : Yeah, thank you. Tay had a voice memo of it and we all loved it. We got in the studio and that’s where the halftime count at the end came in – we always knew it was going to be first.

Evan Westfall : Yeah so actually we had been playing around with this song for like 3-4 years. It was our Sound Check song, back when I was even on the drums. It really just came from us jamming and having fun and then Taylor wanted to do it when we got in the studio and it ended up being one of our most fun songs to play.

When that sun shines Through to the break of dawn You better grab the keys And leave the dogs at home, oh

Abeline, little baby know i’ll always be around abeline, little baby i won’t let you hit the ground, when that sun comes through to the break of dawn you better grab the keys and leave the dogs at home.

Evan Westfall : Yeah, it’s really cool. It’s a fun one because of that.

Evan Westfall : Thank you, yeah. There was so much for me to play with there on the Banjo. It was really fun to play around on that one. And then yeah the keys, I think that’s my favorite keys moment from Joe. It’s awesome to see what he’s been able to do and watch him and all of us I feel just get better and better as a band. Yeah that one is a really pretty song, it’s definitely one of my favorites too.

Evan Westfall : Thank you so much, yeah.

Evan Westfall : That is more for Taylor to speak to – he was going through something at the time. He wrote this song and when he showed it to us we weren’t making an album at the time, but that’s when we knew we had to get in the studio and build an album around it. So we rented out the studio in North Carolina and started with that one, and yeah, that’s definitely where it all started.

Caamp © Sophia Matinazad

Evan Westfall : Yeah, so “Garden Song”is actually a really old song. If you go on Youtube you can see us playing it at an open mic.

Evan Westfall : Yeah, we felt like the story really fit with the album so we wanted to put it in. Same thing with “Snowshoes,” actually. It was a bit of an older song, but we really built it out and felt like it worked well with the album. It was cool to see what all the guys did with it.

Evan Westfall : Thank you so much! Yeah it’s a good one.

CAAMP © Sophia Matinazad

Evan Westfall : Yes exactly. The whole process of writing and recording “Fever” was one of those moments that really excited me for whatever is going to come next. I remember after that session was done just feeling so grateful and looking forward to what was next for the band. It was just one of those special moments that I’ll always remember. It felt like how bands did it in the 70’s. We were all in the studio and brought in some special guests and they all learned it right then and there. We’ve done live takes before, but never quite like this one and it just felt really special.

Hold my shoulder My garden puller Yes, child, you are a dreamer all the same All your wonder And all you’re learnin’ Will turn it into somethin’ one day

Yes, now rise up like a fever yes, and give us a brand-new day get up and be strong for you’re already gone and my darlin’, i’ll be with her once again.

Evan Westfall : Exactly yeah, thank you. That’s how it felt. We’ve come really far as a band and with this album it’s been awesome to see everyone step up and I’m really excited about where we go next as a band.

Evan Westfall : It has to be “Believe” right now. You never know how people are going to react to the new songs, or if you’ll lose some of them when you start playing new stuff, but we seem to get a reaction to “Believe” every time so that’s been fun.

O ur conversation ended there as Westfall was set to sound check for Caamp’s show in Seattle. We’ve loved following this band since the beginning, and as alluded to in our conversation, we cannot wait to hear what they do next, but for now – we’re very happy to be enjoying those nostalgic and beautiful Lavender Days.

Review: Caamp's 'Lavender Days' shows off new creative direction, stays true to its sound

<p>A picture of Caamp's third album, "Lavender Days" on Spotify. The album was released on June 24, 2022 across streaming platforms.</p>

Album: Lavender Days

Artist: Caamp

Release Date: June 24, 2022

Runtime: 39 minutes 31 seconds

Label: Mom+Pop

“Lavender Days'' is Caamp’s third studio album. It was released as the band concluded their tour with fellow folk band The Lumineers on June 17.

The album is true to their sound of acoustic guitar and banjo, while still being different from every other album the band has put out. Despite this, “Lavender Days” is somewhat lacking in variety between songs due to their heavy use of acoustic guitar and consistent strumming pattern.

Caamp's self-titled debut album, released in 2016, sounds much more like a small production, meaning that you can hear smaller details like the echo of their instruments in the studio. "Lavender Days'' does not have these smaller details. Instead it sounds like a large production in a large studio, with more instruments present than in previous albums. Songs like "The Otter" feature a tambourine and stomping and clapping when, in previous albums, they would only have drums, if any percussion at all.

The subject matter throughout the entire album is someone longing for a love that they no longer have. Songs like “All My Lonesome” and “Lavender Girl” highlight this theme with lines like “I’ll find you over again” and “Lavender girl, take me back to the start”.

The song “Light” offers a different perspective on this theme. At first glance, it sounds like someone who is in the process of falling in love and wants to get to know the person as quickly as possible. However, the lines “I will love you darlin’, ‘til the very end / Sorry it took so long to say it,” offers a contrast to that, opening up the possibility that the song is about someone who was not willing to fall in love and regrets it in the end because of their belated apology.

The latter theory is helped by the fact that "Light" is the track right after "All My Lonesome", showing the listener that the whole album is about a lost love.

"Garden Song" introduces a new development on this theme. The song introduces another person into the life of the songwriter. This track shows how they are not ready to move on from their lost love. The lyrics tell a story of how the new person and the songwriter have gotten to know each other and share parts of their lives together.

While the songwriter likes this new person, they are not allowing themselves to fall for this person, highlighted by the line "But you do not know", which is followed by "You think you're falling for me". The use of the word "think" shows that the songwriter is trying to deflect any attachment to them, not fully accepting the fact that they could be falling for them.

I believe that they did a very good at job at keeping a consistent theme throughout the album. They chose a theme that most people can relate to in some way and I believe that it will only help them and their album's appeal when looking back on it in the future.

“Lavender Days” is a new adventure for the young band, full of new creative ventures and sounds. Caamp is on tour now to celebrate the release of their new album. However, they are not coming near Columbia.

Overall, Caamp’s third studio album has enough songs for most people to enjoy, whether you're playing it while on a hike, around a campfire or just lounging around - there is something for everybody to enjoy.

Caamp – ‘Lavender Days’ review

Mark Engleson

I grew up not far from the acoustic folk trio Caamp’s home base of Vermillion, Ohio, and I went to college even closer to it, in Oberlin. I am very familiar with the natural beauty of the American heartland region, a beauty they capture on their new album ‘Lavender Days’ .  While their storytelling is effective, it is their ability to capture the natural landscapes and scenery of their native Buckeye State that really shines on this album. It is on the tracks where the band is dealing with these subjects — ‘The Otter’, ‘Appletree Blues’, ‘Garden Song’ and ‘Snowshoes’ that the band is at its strongest.

A bit of strong guitar picking begins ‘The Otter’ and the strong image, “I am floating in deep water, like the unfamiliar otter, in love with someone’s daughter.” It’s a curious combination of imagery and story. The vocals here are strong and clear, clean, midwestern accents, easy to understand, and that’s true throughout the album. The banjo has a naturally percussive effect; here, without drums, that quality really comes out, and you hear the pluck of the strings, the “thunk” of it adding a necessary beat to the song.

‘Appletree Blues’ is a little too fast-paced at the beginning, but it sets up a nice, acoustic version of heartland rock. The band is not shy about what they’re going for here, as the lyrics declare, “I could use a little bit of rock ‘n’ roll.” The beginning few seconds go by a little too quickly though, and don’t quite allow the listener to process the imagery of the rabbit, the apple tree, and possibly something else that I might’ve missed. All of that goes by in about 7 seconds, and it could’ve easily been slowed down to a few seconds later before the pace picked up; it’s an effective pace for the rest of the song, but it doesn’t quite work at the beginning.

The pairing of imagery, pace, and storytelling in ‘Garden Song’ is very effective. Setting the story in a garden sets the right ambience for this gentle story of two people falling for each other, and the gentle easy pace is matched perfectly to that ambience. If Caamp seems a little hurried on ‘Appletree Blues’ there’s no hint of that here; they get into a groove, and they take their time to tell this story, simply and effectively.

‘Light’is well-designed, sonically, with its sound matching title, but it doesn’t quite feel like it delivers a strong central image I can grab onto. The lyric, “What lights you up / What makes your blood run cold,” reverses the emotional direction of the song, and it doesn’t match the tone of the music — it’s much more somber than that’s what being played. It just doesn’t quite make sense; light is usually associated with heat, and this just doesn’t seem right to me. ‘Snowshoes’ doesn’t really deliver a strong enough central image to justify its title.

A strong effort from Caamp, there’s a lot to like in ‘Lavender Days’ .  Many of the tracks, like “Garden Songs,” show real evidence of the band’s growth.

Track list: 1. Come With Me Now 2. Believe 3. The Otter 4. Apple Tree Blues 5. All My Lonesome 6. Light 7. Found (Forever) 8. Lavender Girl 9. Garden Song 10. Fever 11. Snowshoes 12. Sure Of Record Label: Mom + Pop Release Date: 24th June Buy ‘Lavender Days’ now

ALBUM REVIEW: On ‘Lavender Days,’ Caamp’s Best Shade Is Keeping It Simple

' src=

lavender days tour caamp

Caamp is still working out what kind of band it wants to be. The Ohio foursome’s self-titled 2016 debut offered the propulsive, crowd-pleasing brand of folk that does well on AAA radio. The follow-up, 2019’s By and By , incorporated indie rock influences for a set that was both breezier and more varied. Now, Lavender Days — their third album overall and second since signing to Mom + Pop in 2019 — continues to find the group scattered across different sonic lanes.

lavender days tour caamp

Album opener “Come with Me Now” finds moody guitar strums giving way to a sweeping arrangement that finds banjo, violin, and drums fighting for attention. It’s a polished scene-setter, one of five tracks co-produced by Brad Cook, acclaimed for recent work with Waxahatchee, Snail Mail, and others. Later, “Fever” is a torchy throwback, while “Apple Tree Blues” provides the kind of rustic sing-along that does well on a certain side of TikTok .

The unifying element here is lead singer and lyricist Taylor Meier’s voice, raspy and surprisingly elastic. “Lavender Girl” typifies his ability to go from a hush to near-shout, while “Sure Of” is barely sung above a whisper. The only time he sounds strained is on the overbearing “Found (Forever),” coincidentally one of the album’s more ponderous cuts. Similarly, “The Otter” struggles to rise above its goofy opening lines, which find Meier comparing himself to “the unfamiliar otter / In love with someone’s daughter.”

Caamp spent much of the spring touring with The Lumineers, an obvious influence and certainly one of the most imitated folk bands of the last decade. Like their tour mates, Caamp’s tendency toward the anthemic can occasionally lead them into twee territory. (“I had this thought that all of our hearts are like appleseeds / Waiting on sympathy, waiting on love.”) They’re at their best at their least affected, as on “Believe,” a laid-back rocker that’s buoyant but never cloying. “I believe in you, baby,” Meier sings repeatedly, a phrase that’s effective precisely because it doesn’t feel contrived.

Travis Kelce Reveals His Summer Plans With Taylor Swift—and They’re Anything But Cruel

Travis kelce gave an update on whether he plans to join taylor swift in europe for the international leg of her record-breaking eras tour..

Can Travis Kelce go where Taylor Swift goes? The answer is a resounding "duh."

In fact, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end confirmed he plans to join the "Cruel Summer" singer in Europe when the international leg of her Eras Tour picks back up in May.

"You know I gotta go support," he told  Entertainment Tonight in an interview published April 2 . "You know it."

And as for which shows he'll be attending? Travis hinted that Taylor's stops in London and Paris will be unmissable.

"The London shows, I think she's at Wembley eight times," Kelce gushed, "which is mind-blowing that she can do that many shows in one stadium and fill that thing up. I played at Wembley once and I don't even think we filled that thing up."

He went on to note that "Paris is a beautiful city" as well, adding, "She'll be all over. There won't be a bad show, I promise you that."

But Travis noted that his appearance at the shows shouldn't come as a huge surprise. After all, Taylor  flew all over the world to cheer him on during the football season.

"We're both very career-driven," the NFL star explained. "We both love what we do, and any chance that I can show my support to her—and knowing that she's showing me all the support in the world throughout the season—it's just been an amazing experience getting to know Tay."

And now that he knows Taylor all too well? Travis said her hits have been in heavy rotation—on and off the field.

"That's my everyday playlist," he said of the "Anti-Hero" singer's music. "Not just my game day."

The New Heights podcast host also shared the biggest lesson he learned from the Grammy winner as he gears up to host his second annual Kelce Jam music festival May 18, which will feature performances from acts like 2 Chainz , Lil Wayne and Diplo .

"Don't try and be Taylor, that's what I learned," he told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published April 2 . "Yeah, she's on a whole other stratosphere. She's the best at what she does for a reason."

Praising Taylor for being "so articulate," Travis added, "I'd be silly if I ever tried to take anything from what she does, other than just enjoy the people that show up."

July 2023: So, Make the Friendship Bracelets

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce 's love story began in July 2023, when the singer's Eras Tour made a stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

As a huge Swiftie, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end caught the show with hopes of giving Taylor a friendship bracelet with his number on it . However, he failed to complete the pass due to her pre-show rituals.

"I was disappointed that she doesn't talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings," Travis shared on the July 26 episode of his  New Heights podcast. "So, I was a little butt-hurt I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her."

Summer 2023: This Is Him Trying

After publicly recounting his fumble—a move Taylor would later describe as "metal as hell" —Travis decided to shoot his shot and invite the Grammy winner to watch the Chiefs play at Arrowhead Stadium.

"I threw it out there, I threw the ball in her court," he shared on The Pat McAfee Show . "I told her, you know, 'I've seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead, you might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one's a little more lit.' So, we'll see what happens in the near future."

August 2023: Enchanted to Meet You

Travis was rocking a mustache—which he debuted in August during training camp—when he was first introduced to Taylor .

As he later noted of the era, "That 'stache and the 87 jersey was pretty iconic there for a little bit, and I had it when I met Taylor for the first time."

September 2023: Sparks Fly

By early September, a source close to the situation told E! News that Travis and Taylor were " texting and talking here and there ."

"It's been very low-key," the insider explained, "as he's been in season."

September 2023: Cheer Captain

Accepting Travis' invite, Taylor joined the athlete's mom Donna Kelce at Arrowhead Stadium to watch him and the Chiefs take on the Chicago Bears. After the game, Taylor and Travis were seen packing PDA at a local bar .

Though folklore had it that it was the couple's first in-person meeting, the "Karma" singer later clarified the two had spent a "significant amount of time" getting to know each other beforehand.

As Taylor noted, "We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date."

October 2023: Team Up

As an indication that the relationship was heating up, Taylor brought her squad —including friends Blake Lively , Ryan Reynolds , Sophie Turner , Hugh Jackman , Sabrina Carpenter and Antoni Porowski —to watch the Chiefs play against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

October 2023: It's Nice to Have a Friend

Another sign that Travis could be The 1 ? Taylor started bonding with Brittany Mahomes —the wife of Travis' BFF and teammate Patrick Mahomes —in and outside of NFL games .

October 2023: Welcome to New York

The couple took their romance to TV, making a surprise appearance on the Oct. 14 episode of Saturday Night Live . Their Big Apple takeover also included the after-party for the NBC sketch show and a date night at the Waverly Inn .

November 2023: Karma Is Her Boyfriend

During a bye week, Travis traveled down to Argentina to catch the South American leg of Taylor's Eras Tour. Not only did the NFL star bond with Taylor's dad , Scott Swift , at the Nov. 11 show in Buenos Aires, but he also got a special shoutout from the stage.

" Karma is that guy on the Chiefs ," Taylor sang, "coming straight home to me."

After the show, the Midnights  artist was seen running up to Travis backstage and greeting him with a passionate kiss .

December 2024: Speak Now

Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis' games.

"I'm going to see him do what he loves, we're showing up for each other, other people are there and we don't care," she told Time . "The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you're seeing someone."

December 2023: You, Who Charmed Her Dad

The music superstar turned Travis' Dec. 17 game into a family affair, bringing her dad to cheer on her man .

History of stary oskol.

In 1300, there was a village called Ugly on the the territory of the present city. Today, it is one of the districts of Stary Oskol. At that time, the village was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and was a border crossing point on the border with the Golden Horde.

The settlement of Oskol was founded by Russian Tsar Fyodor Ioanovich’s order (Ivan’s the Terrible son) to protect the southern borders of the Russian kingdom in 1593. The bulk of the population were peasants and the military.

In 1617, the town was burned by the Poles. In 1625, 1642 and 1677, the Crimean Tatars approached Stary Oskol, but could not capture it. The town was renamed Stary Oskol (meaning Old Oskol) in 1655, when the town of Tsaryov-Alexeyev, located down the river, was renamed Novy Oskol (New Oskol). Fortifications of the town existed until the 18th century.

More Historical Facts…

Gradually, Stary Oskol turned into peaceful, commercial and merchant town - the center of an agricultural district. Industrial production was represented mainly by enterprises on processing agricultural products.

In 1780, the town got its coat of arms. In 1784, Stary Oskol like most Russian towns of that time was rebuilt according to a new plan signed by Empress Catherine II. A large number of brick houses were built, mostly two-story buildings. The historic center of Stary Oskol has been preserved to our time.

In the second half of the 19th century, the town had a wide network of schools, libraries, reading rooms, printing, secondary schools. In 1894, construction of the railway began, trade and industry began to develop rapidly.

Until the 1930s, there were eleven Orthodox churches in Stary Oskol. During the Second World War, Stary Oskol was occupied by the Germans from July 2, 1942 to February 5, 1943. In 1954, the city became part of the newly formed Belgorod region.

In the late 1960s - early 1970s, in connection with the active development of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly (the most powerful iron ore basin in the world), Stary Oskol became a major center of iron and steel industry.

Stary Oskol was declared a city of three top-priority Komsomol construction projects. The largest enterprises: Lebedinsky Mining and Processing Plant, Stoilensky Mining and Processing Plant, Oskolsky Electrometallurgical Plant became not only the city-forming enterprises, but also the largest industrial enterprises of the country. Stary Oskol experienced a new birth.

Today, Stary Oskol is a rapidly developing city, one of the leading mining and metallurgical centers of Russia.
