How to take your first trip

Once your GoCar account has been activated you’re free to book any of our vehicles whenever you like. Here’s our tips to make sure your first booking with us goes to plan.

Book your car You can book a car or van by logging into your account online here or through our app using your customer number and pin sent to you via email when you signed up. Simply select the car on the map you want to book and input your pickup time and your return time. During the booking process you’ll have the option to add hourly insurance if you like and apply any promocodes you may have.

Getting Going Once your booking is in place our app will remind you of your upcoming trip. When you’re on the way to your GoCar click “Locate my car” which will appear on screen as shown below to be guided straight to your car’s location.

After arriving at the car you’ll need to unlock it. Open by holding the unlock button in the app for 5 seconds.

share trip gocar

Alternatively, you can open your GoCar with your access card. See how to add an access card.

Either method is fine to use, we do recommend carrying your card with you as a backup option in the event network signal is bad or your phone encounters any issues.

The keys to your car are waiting for you inside. Open the glovebox and you’ll find them slotted into a keypad inside, just slide them out and you’re good to go! Remember to put the keys back in this slot to end your trip.

Drive As with most new cars you’ll need to push the clutch down while turning the key in the ignition to start the car. Drive the car as normal and if you are getting out during your trip lock the doors using the car keys.

Return To finish your trip you’ll need to return the car to where you picked it up from. If the car has a dedicated space park it there, if not park it as close as you can to where you collected. Please remember to always park legally, do not park in clearways or timeshare spots. Once you’ve parked place the key fob(small circular disc attached to the keys) back into the keypad console in the glovebox. Make sure you’ve got all of your belongings, exit the car and lock it using your GoCard by holding it o the reader or by clicking end my trip in the app and hold the lock button.

Other Tips We ask that you return the car with at least a quarter tank of fuel. There is a fuel card located in the glovebox in the back of the keypad console you can use in any Circle K garage. The PIN is located in the app during your trip.

Gojek officially launches GoCar for all users in Ho Chi Minh City, starting with its GoCar Protect service

GoCar Protect includes additional safety and hygiene features to prevent potential virus spread, giving users greater peace of mind and setting new industry standards for hygiene and safety

Gojek

Ho Chi Minh City, 18 November 2021: Gojek, Southeast Asia's leading mobile on-demand services platform, today announced the expansion of its GoCar service for all users in Ho Chi Minh City, starting with GoCar Protect, which incorporates additional safety and hygiene features for greater protection of riders amid the pandemic. This follows GoCar’s initial launch in Ho Chi Minh City in August 2021 to transport frontline healthcare workers. The expansion of GoCar to the wider public demonstrates Gojek’s continued commitment to provide new options for users, while supporting the City’s drive to prevent the spread of the virus.

GoCar Protect gives added protection to users by including features that prevent potential virus spread. Firstly, all GoCar driver-partners are guaranteed to have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine - this information will be visible on the Gojek app when users book a trip. All cars will also be equipped with sanitizers, a transparent protective shield to separate driver-partners and riders as well as a SHARP air purifier which can neutralize up to 99.4% of airborne viruses 1 . GoCar is the only four-wheel ride-hailing service in Vietnam to provide in-car air purifiers.

To ensure that GoCar driver-partners wear a mask, Gojek has also rolled out a new feature in the driver app, which will require all driver-partners to confirm mask use by taking a selfie before they can start driving for the day. All driver-partners are required to follow Gojek’s strict health and hygiene protocols and adhere to Vietnam’s practice of 5Ks (Khau trang- wearing a face mask; Khu khuan - hand washing and disinfecting; Khoang cach - keeping distance; Khong tap trung - no mass gatherings; and Khai bao y te - filling out health declaration forms), alongside the government’s other regulations.

Duc Phung, Gojek Vietnam General Manager said, “When we launched GoCar in August this year to support frontline healthcare workers amidst the severe COVID-19 pandemic, we promised that we would extend the GoCar offering to the wider public when the situation became safer and restrictions were eased. Today’s launch of GoCar for all users in Ho Chi Minh City is therefore a very significant milestone. Besides being able to offer our users another high-quality transport option, we are very happy because the opening up of transportation services also means that the city is recovering.

“In general, the ride-hailing industry and public transportation services have been adhering to the 5Ks. Amid the heightened pandemic outbreak, however, Gojek users have expressed greater concerns on the risk of infection, so Gojek has taken extra steps to keep riders and driver-partners safe, with the introduction of the GoCar Protect service line. By doing so, we aim to give our users and driver-partners greater peace of mind and allow for proper hygiene and safety amid the pandemic and beyond.”

Gojek plans to extend its GoCar service to Hanoi soon, and will add more service lines outside of GoCar Protect when the COVID-19 pandemic situation further improves.

Users can pay for GoCar service by cash, credit card or debit card. From now until 28 November 2021, GoCar users can enjoy a promotion of VND 100,000 for their first trip, and 50% off for the following 5 trips, capped at VND 30,000 per trip. In addition, new Gojek users will receive 6 vouchers giving them a 50% discount, capped at VND 50,000 per trip.

Rental car with GoCar on 2 Feb 23 - WB8885V

Overall the rental car journey were general good experience besides the first 90 mins of my journey when the first car allocated to me went malfunction after 3km drive 🙈 I was informed to stop the car waiting for exchange but later when I found a place to park I was again inform to remove the car to my next destination 🥶 there were quite a bit of hassle when I was late for my meeting due to the inconvenience caused. Hope the company could help to provide more regular check on their cars for rental from time to time in the future.

GoCar beats SoCar, 10/10!

I’ve been using SoCar for a long time now, and I started with GoCar about a year ago. I noticed one thing immediately, the GoCar app is far superior, far more user friendly and the best part is you can directly speak to the very helpful GoCar customer service operators, should you need to. This is unlike the useless Socar and their ridiculous app and even more annoying customer support which is only available in chat not calls. I give GoCar 10/10, I wish, I wish there were more GoCars around. And by the way, GoCar is CHEAPER than SukuCar, uhh, I meant SuckCar. Uhh, no, I meant to say StupidCar. Ahh, forget it, you get the picture! 😎

EV Car Rental

Overall experience was good but the mobile app crashes every now and then (locking/ unlocking and also when trying to upload pre and post use inspection photos). When it crashes, I have to reload the app. When I reload the app, it prompts me to sign in again. It was a hassle to reload the app and sign in again whenever it crashes but other than that, the EV was a pleasure to drive!

Bear destroys family’s van on camping trip, defecates inside: ‘It stinks in there’

BASS LAKE, Calif. (KCRA) – A family’s minivan is a mess after a bear broke into it Tuesday.

The incident happened at Bass Lake in California, just south of Yosemite National Park.

Irik Edens and his family from Folsom, California, were on their annual anniversary trip to the lake.

Edens said he noticed something was moving inside the van.

“It’s like, wait a minute. All the kids are down there… who’s in the car? And then I see the silhouette to the bear in the back window, and it’s like, ‘Holy cow! There’s a bear in our car!’” Edens said.

The bear was stuck, and authorities had to bust one of the van’s windows to help it escape.

Although the bear wasn’t inside the vehicle for long, it did a fair share of damage, destroying everything inside.

Edens said he made sure to capture everything on video to have proof for insurance purposes.

The family thinks that their morning pancakes were the draw.

“I think he spent most of his time licking up syrup and then trying to get out, and he was trapped in there and probably started freaking out, started tearing the place apart,” Edens said.

The bear also left another surprise behind.

“Beyond all the damage he did with his claws just destroying the car, but he also defecated and urinated in the car, and so it stinks in there,” Edens said.

The family said this year’s trip might just require a re-do.

“It’s an anniversary trip for the books,” Mellissa Edens said. “We will always remember this one.”

Some floated interventions and wondered about how to reach Jill Biden. Others hoped the president would bow out of the race on his own. Many came to terms with the low chances that he will do so.

Theodore Schleifer and Kenneth P. Vogel reported from Washington, and Shane Goldmacher from Atlanta.

The Democratic Party’s perennially nervous donor class descended into deep unease on Friday, as some of the wealthiest people in America commiserated over President Biden’s weak debate performance and puzzled over what, if anything, they could do to change the course of the race.

There were discussions with political advisers about arcane rules under which Mr. Biden might be removed from the ticket against his will and replaced at or before the Democratic National Convention, according to a person familiar with the effort.

In Silicon Valley, a group of megadonors, including Ron Conway and Laurene Powell Jobs, were calling, texting and emailing one another about a situation they described as a possible catastrophe. The donors wondered about whom in the Biden fold they could contact to reach Jill Biden, the first lady, who in turn could persuade her husband not to run, according to a person familiar with the conversations.

A Silicon Valley donor who had planned to host an intimate fund-raiser featuring Mr. Biden this summer decided not to go through with the gathering because of the debate, according to a person told directly by the prospective host. Another major California donor left a debate watch party early and emailed a friend with the subject line: “Utter disaster,” according to a copy of the email.

In group chats and hushed discussions, some wealthy Democrats floated interventions, others hoped Mr. Biden would have an epiphany and decide to exit on his own, and still more strategized about steering dollars to down-ballot candidates. The most optimistic donors wanted to wait for polling to see the scope of the fallout.

The crisis in the donor class — outlined in interviews with almost two dozen donors and fund-raisers, many of whom insisted on anonymity to discuss their private conversations — could not come at a worse moment for Mr. Biden. Former President Donald J. Trump has outraised him in each of the last two months , erasing the president’s once gaping financial advantage and opening one of his own.

By Friday evening, many donors were coming to terms with the unlikelihood of finding a viable alternative, even as some acknowledged diminished enthusiasm and grumbled about the Biden team’s lack of communication to major fund-raisers in the 24 hours after the debate.

Compared with small online donors, major donors require more maintenance, but those personal relationships can yield big dividends in pivotal moments, like the one Mr. Biden is facing as he confronts a wave of worry from Democrats about his political strength. The donor class is being closely watched for signs of whether he can ride out the doubts.

While the Biden campaign briefed some members of its national finance committee on Friday morning in Atlanta, other members were aghast that they had received almost zero outreach from campaign headquarters.

Reid Hoffman, one of the Democratic Party’s most influential donors, wrote in an email to friends on Friday evening that he had been inundated.

“I got a lot of emails in the last 24 hours asking whether there should be a public campaign to pressure President Biden to step aside after his (very) bad debate performance last night,” he wrote in the email, which was seen by The New York Times. “It certainly delivered a blow to the mood among donors and organizers.”

Cash is a sudden priority for the Biden campaign.

After opening a $100 million advantage over Mr. Trump a couple of months ago, the Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee entered June with $212 million in the bank, compared with $235 million for the Trump operation and the Republican National Committee.

The Biden campaign had hoped to close the gap through a major fund-raising push in the 72 hours after the debate. The scramble coincided with the typically lucrative end of the second-quarter filing period, when campaigns rush to raise cash and project momentum.

Mr. Biden’s team planned a series of fund-raisers on Friday and over the weekend featuring the president and the first lady, as well as Vice President Kamala Harris and celebrities in wealthy enclaves including Manhattan, the Hamptons and Park City, Utah.

If nothing else, the shaky debate performance cast a shadow over those events and led to concerns about diminished hauls.

The Biden campaign pushed back on any financial concerns, announcing that from Thursday into Friday morning it had raised $14 million in online donations, which are typically smaller than those from major donors. The hour after the debate — from 11 p.m. to midnight — was the single best hour of Mr. Biden’s re-election campaign, the campaign said. Combining the online flurry with hauls from in-person events, the campaign said it had raised a total of $27 million on debate day through Friday night.

The grumbling and strategizing by major donors played out in a rolling series of conference calls, text debates and Signal chats that started soon after Mr. Biden opened his mouth onstage in Atlanta on Thursday evening, and continued until late Friday. Some described the communications in tones that resembled a virtual group-therapy session.

“This is an immediate response to a disappointment,” said Craig Kaplan, a lawyer and major Democratic donor in New York.

During a weekly Friday morning Zoom call with major New York donors, Mr. Kaplan urged participants to prioritize giving to congressional and state races.

“The importance of the down ballot is heightened,” he said in an interview, by the perception of weakness at the top of the ticket. He added that he did not intend to abandon Mr. Biden.

Stephen Cozen, a Democratic donor who considers the president a friend, said he had tried to talk down donors who were urging a Biden intervention.

“He deserves the opportunity to reflect and say: ‘I still think I can do this. I still think I am the best choice,’” or to conclude that he’s not the best option, Mr. Cozen said, recounting his counsel. “That’s his decision. And I will stick with him until he makes it.”

In the upper crust of Democratic society, there was a gap between public and private communications.

Publicly, few were willing to brook any criticism of the president.

But privately, major donors were pondering matters that seemed like fan fiction just days ago, wondering to one another about which party elder — Barack Obama? Nancy Pelosi? Chuck Schumer? — might have the political juice to persuade Mr. Biden to stand down.

And they debated which Democrat might be best to replace Mr. Biden, with Govs. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and Gavin Newsom of California among the more popular prospects.

Some donors argued that the debate’s significance was being exaggerated.

“He had a poor performance,” said Robert Wolf, the former chairman of UBS Americas, “but a 90-minute debate doesn’t offset 3 ½ years of his presidency, so I will be in there fighting for Biden.”

Chris Korge, the finance chairman of the Biden Victory Fund, said “now is the time we put our head down and fight as hard as we can.” He added, “Donors will never quit on Biden.”

Mr. Hoffman, effectively the leader of Silicon Valley Democrats, said he believed it was a mistake to pressure Mr. Biden, in part because it wouldn’t work. “Joe is our nominee; any decision to step aside is up to him and his family, period,” he wrote. “If anything, a public effort might compel the Bidens to try to prove the doubters wrong.”

Biden fund-raisers were hearing from plenty of people — one received a Facebook message from a business school friend whom he hadn’t heard from in over a decade — but precious little from the campaign itself. On Thursday around noon, members of the Biden financial brain trust descended on Atlanta for what was expected to be a valedictory gathering, the summer meeting of the several-hundred-strong National Finance Committee.

Fund-raisers at the Atlanta Ritz-Carlton were treated to presentations on campaign tactics and issues, according to materials distributed to donors in advance, plus a debate debrief. But many members of the finance committee — away on vacation, deterred by the inability to attend the audience-free debate or unable to make it on short notice — skipped the meeting altogether.

Meanwhile, the president and first lady tried to project normalcy to donors.

On Friday afternoon, Jill Biden was in New York for a reception entitled “Writers, Wit and Wisdom,” while Ms. Harris was in Park City for her own high-dollar event. Mark Gilbert, a Democratic fund-raiser who hosted her in Park City, said the debate had not dampened enthusiasm.

“Not only were there no cancellations, we received numerous calls asking if it were too late to attend,” Mr. Gilbert said.

Mr. Biden himself appeared on Friday in Manhattan with Elton John at the Stonewall Inn, followed by an L.G.B.T.Q.-focused fund-raiser at the Hammerstein Ballroom at Manhattan Center. On Saturday, he was set to travel to the Hamptons for an event at the home of the billionaire Barry Rosenstein, who said he was preparing for more than 200 attendees, more than double his expectations. Later on Saturday, Mr. Biden was scheduled to attend a fund-raiser at the home of Gov. Phil Murphy of New Jersey.

Biden’s fund-raising at the end of Pride Month is chock-full of cameos from celebrities and those with ties to the L.G.B.T.Q. movement, including a garden party on Saturday in Los Angeles featuring a performance from Idina Menzel.

Still, Friday ended without a clear sense of what exactly donors could do about Mr. Biden. The best that some could muster was gallows humor — a meme, a GIF or a sense that things could always be worse.

“No one’s bailing,” said Steve Phillips, a prominent Democratic donor in California. “Everyone’s resigned to the situation.”

I sat in the front and back of economy for a round-trip long-haul flight. I'm still partial to the back.

  • On a recent round-trip long-haul flight, I sat in the front and back of Lufthansa's economy cabin.
  • Each seat had perks. People at the front had food options, but the back had a galley for stretching.
  • I'm still partial to the back, but I understand why people prefer the front.

Insider Today

It's a hot take, but I love the back of a plane — especially on a long-haul flight.

But after a handful of long-haul flights tucked away in the rear of economy, I decided to see whether my preference remained strong.

On a recent long-haul round-trip Lufthansa flight between Denver and Germany, I decided to compare the two areas of economy. For my outbound flight, I sat in row 42, the third-to-last economy row. For my return trip, I was seated in row 11, the first economy row.

Each seat had its perks, but I'm sticking with the back of the plane.

When it comes to food service, the front wins

A few hours into my return flight to Denver, flight attendants came around with carts full of meals. Each passenger was asked a simple question: chicken or pasta?

This wasn't the case when I was seated in the back. When flight attendants reached the second-to-last row of economy, they had run out of options. Each passenger was handed a tray of beef and mashed potatoes.

This wasn't the first time that's happened to me while seated in the back. Last year, a similar situation occurred on a flight to Tokyo.

If I were a picky eater, this reason alone could sway me to opt for a front-row seat. Instead, I typically request a vegetarian meal for long-haul flights, so my meal is already picked before I board the plane.

My main focus — regardless of whether it's the front or back — is to avoid the bathrooms

When I'm cramped in a tight space, the last thing I want to worry about is a bathroom smell wafting around me for more than 10 hours.

So my No. 1 priority when picking a long-haul seat is sitting far from the bathrooms. On many larger aircraft, the economy bathrooms are stationed in the middle of the cabin.

Related stories

For my 10-hour flight to Germany, I was in the back of economy, and there wasn't a bathroom directly behind me. Instead, a galley was just a few feet away, ideal for a quick stretch break.

I also didn't have a bathroom nearby for my return flight at the front. If I opt for the front on a future flight, I'll double-check that the premium-economy cabin has no bathrooms in the back.

A few days before each flight, open seats remained in the back of the plane

I've been lucky enough to have one or two long-haul flights without a middle-seat passenger. I've celebrated every bit of extra room and tried hard to recreate that luck.

I'm convinced your best chance of having an empty seat is if you're in the back of a cabin. Since most people avoid the rear, those seats are chosen last, or hopefully not chosen at all.

A few days before each flight, I checked the seat map and noticed my theory was correct. The majority of the empty seats remaining were toward the back of economy.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case when I boarded the plane. Both flights were fully booked, meaning I would've been sitting next to someone no matter where I was on the plane.

On one flight, sitting in the rear helped me disembark faster

One of the main arguments for sitting in the front of economy is that you get off the plane faster.

While that's been the case on most of my long-haul flights, it wasn't when we landed at the Munich airport. Instead, flight attendants informed the passengers that we'd use both the front and back doors for disembarking. Since I was seated in the back, I was off the plane in no time.

However, had I been sitting in the back on my return flight, I would've been one of the last people off the plane. This would have also meant a much longer line when I reached customs.

Ultimately, no economy seat on a long-haul flight is ideal, but I'm sticking with the back

No matter the seat, a 10-hour flight isn't fun. I've learned to be patient and celebrate small wins, like getting a window seat or having an empty seat nearby.

Ultimately, everyone has their preferences. Mine just happens to be at the back of the plane, where I have a galley for stretching and a better chance at an empty seat.

'Watch': Buxton foresaw his current torrid streak

Josh Kirshenbaum

Josh Kirshenbaum

SEATTLE -- Byron Buxton was possibly the only person who could tell the switch had been flipped.

On June 22, the 30-year-old went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts in Oakland in the first game of the Twins’ road trip. He was hitting .226 in June, with more K’s than hits.

But there was something there, in that rough night in the Bay, that was the sign Buxton had been looking for.

“I think I told Aaron [Rhodes], our strength coach,” Buxton said. “It was in Oakland … and I was like, ‘I’m about to get hot.’

“And he just looked at me, and I was like, ‘Watch.’”

One week later, and everyone else is seeing what Buxton saw coming. The veteran came back from a scheduled day off and didn’t lose a step, going 2-for-4 and driving in four of Minnesota’s runs in a 5-1 win over the Mariners at T-Mobile Park on Saturday night to continue a red-hot road trip.

“I do think it just means he is in a good spot right now,” said Twins manager Rocco Baldelli, “both in the batter’s box, but also mentally to be able to take that day and kind of reposition himself the following day and be right where he left off. He looks good and it’s not just the swings. It’s the thought process and the approach that goes along with it.”

Buxton put the Twins ahead for good in the top of the fourth inning on a double to left field, just out of the reach of a diving Luke Raley, bringing Carlos Santana around to score. In the sixth, he hit one out and put the game out of the Mariners’ reach on a 409-foot, three-run shot into the bullpen.

The Buck Truck officially made it to the Pacific Northwest. He might not want to return home, though.

In the six games he’s played on the Twins’ road trip, Buxton has logged five multi-hit outings, driven in a run in all six, and slashed a cool .478/.500./1.174. He’s homered in four of his last five games.

In just one big week, the outfielder has raised his batting average by 27 points to .265 -- the highest it's been since April 2 -- and his OPS by 81.

Eight of Buxton’s 17 fastest exit velocities this season have come since Minnesota’s West Coast swing began on June 22; his average exit velocity of 100.3 in that span leads all hitters with more than nine at-bats.

“He’s on a lot of different pitches right now,” Baldelli said. “He’s hitting the ball well out over the plate, when he’s getting pitched in he’s not expanding. He’s finding ways to just have good at-bats, put himself in good counts.

“But the swing, as I’ve said a couple times before, it looks very synced up, it looks very tight and it’s very impactful. He’s finding the barrel and the ball just really takes off when he’s putting good swings on the ball.”

Buxton’s big swings backed up another quality start from Pablo López, who struck out nine in six innings and retired the last 10 batters he faced after allowing a solo home run to Mitch Haniger and needing 32 pitches to get out of the third inning.

“That’s a combination of really good ability, but also there’s almost a professionalism aspect to it,” Baldelli said. “It’s hard to refocus sometimes when you expend that much energy, both mental and physical energy trying to hold it together and get through that really difficult inning.

“Sometimes guys might only have another good inning after that, maybe one, maybe two. But Pablo was able to not just pull it together, but he pitched his best after working his butt off in that inning.”

López finished with 18 whiffs on the night -- one off from his season high -- including eight on his 26 sweepers.

As soon as López got out of the tough frame, Buxton -- who popped out in his first trip to the plate -- came through with his first knock to give his starter a lead right back. Since his three-strikeout game -- and the foresight that followed -- Buxton has only gotten out in back-to-back at-bats once.

Now, the Twins have one more game on their 10-game road trip, before Buxton will try to bring the power back home to Minnesota.

“It’s fun to struggle,” Buxton said. “It’s always more fun to get out of it, so I’m having a little bit more fun now.”

Olathe woman who won Sonic Slam contest gets gift from Royals slugger

61-year-old Mendy King received Diamond Club seats and a signed MJ Melendez jersey Thursday...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - When Kansas City Royals outfielder MJ Melendez connected on a two-out, two-strike pitch for a grand slam in Los Angeles two weekends ago, an Olathe woman cashed in.

Sixty-one-year-old Mendy King was the ‘Sonic Slam’ contestant for the Royals on Saturday, June 15. When Melendez connected on the 12th pitch of his at-bat and deposited the ball over the right field fence, King celebrated accordingly.

“I just pinched myself,” King told KCTV last week. “I had to check my text messages to make sure it was real the next morning and hadn’t dreamt it.”

After saying she planned to use the $25,000 cash prize to buy tires and brakes for her daughter’s car and a replacement car for herself, King said she’d first buy an MJ Melendez jersey with her winnings.

On Thursday, her dream-like reality got even better.

The Royals team store and Aramark Sports + Entertainment invited King to Thursday night’s game between the Royals and Cleveland Guardians. She sat in the Diamond Club and was delivered an autographed Melendez jersey signed by the 25-year-old left-fielder himself.

The AC on King’s current car has been out for a few summers. The prize money comes as temperatures heat up in Kansas City.

“It’s just really reassuring knowing that my mom has something to fall back on, and she can take care of herself,” King’s daughter, Andrea Gaeta, said.

“Blessed. Lucky,” King said. “My daughter loves me. She thinks I’m lucky.”
