We’re here for you

Fleming College is committed to creating an equitable and inclusive community that protects the human rights of all persons and celebrates diversity. As such, we recognize your right to self-identify your gender and choose a housing arrangement that is best suited for you. We offer two styles of housing based on gender. All our housing options contain private washrooms and bedrooms.

Same-Gender Housing:

Students that select this preference will be placed with 1-5 roommates of the same gender identity. Students in these suites will share a common space and a private washroom. Students will also have their own private bedrooms.

Mixed-Gender Housing:

Students that select this preference will be placed with 1-5 roommates of any gender identity. These students will share a common space and a private washroom. Students will also have their own private bedrooms. A mixed-gender suite may include students of any gender identity, including male, female, trans, two-spirit, non-binary, non-disclosed gender, or any personally disclosed gender identity.

Please note that housing preferences are not guaranteed and are based on availability. If your request for mixed-gender housing is a required accommodation based on one of the protected grounds of the  Ontario Human Rights Code  or if you have any questions about the housing preferences, please contact the Residence Office.

Accessibility and Accommodation Requests

We understand that as a college student with a disability, you have individual strengths and abilities, and you also have unique concerns. We work with our campus partners in Accessibility Education Services to support your housing needs. Our residences have  barrier-free accommodations available .

Students are asked when they complete their residence application to let us know whether they have a residence accommodation request. By answering yes to requiring residence accommodation and completing the required sections, that includes an explanation of the student’s situation, a member of the Housing Services staff will contact the student to explain our process and understand how we can help.

8 Tips for Navigating Off-Campus Living

8 Tips for Navigating Off-Campus Living

Starting college is already a life-changing experience, but you’ll face another big transition when you move out of dorms and into off-campus housing. Living in your own apartment provides you with more freedom, which has many benefits but also some additional considerations. The following tips will help you navigate your new living situation.

  • Read the Lease Carefully Before you agree to rent an apartment, read the entire lease and make sure you understand all the terms. You should also ask someone who has experience renting to check the lease for you, such as a relative.
  • Document the Condition of the Apartment On move in day, document the current condition of the apartment, especially any damage. Take photographs to show what the apartment contains.
  • Buy Renters Insurance It’s important to have renters insurance to protect your belongings in the case of theft, fire, or floods. A policy will also give you protection from liability claims if a guest suffers an accident in your apartment.
  • Pay Your Bills on Time Depending on your lease, you may have just one monthly payment that includes everything or you may need to pay rent and utilities separately. Whatever the case, make sure you pay in full and on time every month. Late payments will affect your credit history and could make it more difficult for you to find an apartment in the future.
  • Make a Grocery List Living off campus means no more meal plans. This is great for saving money and it means you’ll be able to eat the food you enjoy. However, you will need to purchase your own groceries and prepare meals. To avoid spending more than your budget, make a list before you head to the store. Discuss with your roommates whether you’ll each buy your own food or if you’d prefer to share some things. If you do decide to share food, you may like to take turns cooking and to eat together.
  • Have a Cleaning Schedule One thing you’ll definitely need to share with your roommates is cleaning responsibilities. Create a list of chores and rotate who is responsible for each.
  • Be Disciplined It’s common to feel more distanced from campus when you’re living in your own apartment — even if you’re still nearby. You’ll need to be disciplined enough to make sure you attend all your classes. Plus, it’s important to keep attending meetings for extracurriculars and to go to campus events, as these will help you feel connected to your college.
  • Keep Your Apartment in Good Condition Take good care of your apartment to avoid losing any of your security deposit when you move out. If anything breaks while you’re living in the apartment, contact the maintenance team as soon as possible to receive a repair. Armed with these tips, you’re ready to move off campus — but you still need to find somewhere to live. An alternative to Fleming College residence is Severn Court. Our student housing makes the transition off campus as seamless as possible. For instance, your rent is all inclusive, our units are fully furnished, there are laundry facilities on site, and you’ll still be living close to campus. We also have an onsite management office with live-in resident advisors who are available 24 hours a day. Apply for your lease now.

Check out these historic homes at Flemington house tour Saturday

The House Tours of Historic Flemington is back on June 1 after a successful return last year.

Run by the borough’s Historic Preservation Committee, the tour will feature 13 properties, including five houses and eight public buildings. Featured in the tour is the historic courthouse that the 1935 Lindbergh kidnapping trial took place in.

The tour returned last year after a seven-year hiatus and received a huge turnout of over 500 attendees.

Todd Cook, a member of Flemington Planning Board and house tours committee, said the tour is part of an effort to “bring awareness to historical preservation and the borough of Flemington at large.

“We are using historic tourism to bring awareness to Flemington,” Cook said.

Attendees can either tour the properties at their own pace, or can ride on a “hop on hop off” trolley, which will be going from building to building from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Aside from the courthouse, properties on the tour include the Samuel Fleming house, the Parker Evans residence and the De Luca residence.

Tickets are available online for $25 in advance or $30 the day of the tour and can be picked up at Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce.
