Taylor Swift ‘The Eras Tour’ concert film: Everything you need to know

For all the fans who couldn’t snag a ticket to one of Taylor Swift’s stops on her sold-out “ Eras Tour ,” your time has come: It’s coming to the big screen for some people even sooner !

The singer shared on social media Oct. 11 that due to high demand, early access showings of “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour” will be available in the United States and Canada one day before its official release on Oct. 13.

AMC announced in September that in addition to the film's North American release in nearly 4,000 movie theaters in October, the film will play in 100 countries starting Oct. 13.

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon,” Swift wrote on X , the platform formerly known as Twitter, on Aug. 31 for the film's North American announcement.

“Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged,” she added.

AMC said in a press release it took less than 24 hours for Swift's concert film to "shatter AMC’s U.S. record for the highest ticket-sales revenue during a single day in AMC’s 103-year history."

"With such overwhelming demand being evident, it became obvious that there should be an immediate worldwide release of the film," the company said.

Recently, Swift cited "unprecedented demand" as the reason she's adding additional showtimes before the film is even released .

“I can’t really wrap my head around this but…. Look what you genuinely made me do: Due to unprecedented demand we’re opening up early access showings of The Eras Tour Concert Film on THURSDAY in America and Canada!! As in… TOMORROW. We’re also adding additional showtimes Friday and throughout the weekend,” she said in her Instagram post .

“I can’t thank you enough for wanting to see this film that so vividly captures my favorite adventure I’ve ever been a part of: The Eras Tour. And the best part is, it’s an adventure we’re still on together,” she continued.

Here’s what to know about the “Eras Tour” concert film .

The 'Eras Tour' film release date

The “Eras Tour” concert film will be a filmed version of “Eras Tour” performances from three of the singer's shows in Los Angeles , which took place Aug. 3-5.

The concert film will premiere in most countries at 6 p.m. local time, according to AMC .

Not wanting to go up against Swifties, shortly after the release date was confirmed, “The Exorcist: The Believer” announced it was changing its release date, which was originally Oct. 13.

Founder of Blumhouse, Jason Blum, who is distributing the film alongside Universal and Morgan Creek, tweeted: “Look what you made me do. The Exorcist: Believer moves to 10/6/23.”

He included the hashtag: “#TaylorWins.”

By Sept. 1, Swift had once again disrupted yet another film’s release. Meg Ryan’s movie “What Happens Later” will now be released Nov. 3, instead of Oct. 13, Bleeker Street, the company distributing the rom-com announced.

“So we’ll take our time...Are you ready for it? Meg Ryan ends her 14-year rom-com hiatus and the #Megaissance begins with #WhatHappensLater, now happening...later. Coming only to theaters November 3!” the company tweeted.

The 'Eras Tour' concert film running time

The “Eras Tour” concert film has a running time of 2 hours and 48 minutes, according to AMC Theatres . The live show runs over three hours, so it looks like the film version will be slightly condensed.

Where to watch the 'Eras Tour' concert film

Starting Oct. 13, the “Eras Tour” concert film will be showing in theaters across the U.S., including AMC, Cinemark and Regal. Swift also announced due to high demand, there will be early access showings Oct. 12 in Canada and the United States.

Every AMC location in the country will offer at least four showtimes a day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, AMC said in a release.

AMC is also distributing the film to other theaters across North America and has deals with major theatrical exhibitors like Cineplex in Canada and Cinepolis in Mexico to show the concert film.

In Europe, the concert film will play in every ODEON Cinemas location, according to AMC.

"Additionally, AMC and its sub-distribution partners are taking steps to reach agreements with additional cinema operators throughout the world to play this spectacular Taylor Swift tour-de-force," the company said in a previous press release.

How to get tickets for the 'Eras Tour' concert film

According to a link shared by Swift on X , fans can purchase tickets for the “Eras Tour” concert film in the U.S. via AMC, Regal, Cinemark or Fandango.

In an effort to deal with the expected overwhelming demand for tickets — and no doubt to avoid the ticketing issues that have plagued the booking process for live shows — AMC introduced a queuing system to access its website.

“Thank you for your patience as we experience high traffic volume,” a previous message read on AMC’s website when first accessed. “We have proactively created this queue for all visitors. When it is your turn, you will have 10 minutes to begin your TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR Concert Film ticket purchase or other online visit.”

AMC said in a release that it upgraded its website and ticketing system to cope with a high volume of ticket sales. But the chain also noted that “no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale.”

AMC warned that people booking tickets online may experience delays, wait times and outages.

AMC noted on its ticket-booking page that tickets are nonrefundable and that "no passes, exchange tickets, or discount tickets may be used."

For those outside of North America, tickets went on sale for most participating locations Sept. 26, according to AMC.

Ticket prices for the 'Eras Tour' concert film

Adult tickets for the “Eras Tour” concert film at AMC Theatres in the U.S. will be priced at $19.89 plus tax, in a playful reference to Swift’s fifth (and soon-to-be-re-released) studio album, “1989.”

Children’s and senior tickets are $13.13 plus tax, a wink at Swift’s famous lucky number of 13.

Some showings at IMAX at AMC, Dolby Cinema at AMC and “other premium large formats” may have a higher ticket price, which varies by format and theater.

For international Swifties , ticket prices will vary by country, according to AMC.

Will the 'Eras Tour' concert film be available to stream?

As of now, the “Eras Tour” concert film is available only in movie theaters. Swift has not indicated whether there are plans to release the film on streaming platforms.

Is the live 'Eras Tour' still happening?

“The Eras Tour,” which kicked off in March 2023 , is still in full swing. After wrapping up her initial run of shows in North America, Swift is set to begin the international leg of the tour this November with shows across South America, Asia, Australia and Europe through August 2024.

She also added extra shows in the U.S. and Canada in October and November 2024.

If you couldn't afford a Taylor Swift ticket, or want to see the show again, or the show in your city was sold out, or want to see what the hype is about, there's good news.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Concert Film is coming to AMC theaters across the U.S., Canada and Mexico starting Oct. 13, Swift announced Thursday.

"The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I'm overjoyed to tell you that it'll be coming to the big screen soon," she said on Instagram . "Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged."

Pop Culture

How three female artists lead this summer's billion-dollar pop culture revival, local economies are getting a boost from taylor swift and beyoncé concerts.

Tickets for the tour went on sale on Ticketmaster in November 2022, but the process went haywire , as the website crashed multiple times, prices fluctuated, sales were canceled and fans were left waiting for hours, only to end up empty-handed. The fiasco prompted Congress to investigate Ticketmaster's business practices.

Economists estimate her tour could generate $5 billion by its end in November 2024. The average Swift concertgoer has spent almost $1,300 to attend, including the price of a ticket, plus things like merchandise, hair and outfits and a hotel and flight for travelers, Maura Klaunig, an analyst at Camoin Associates, told NPR.

But if navigating marked-up resale prices isn't your jam, you can catch the show on the big screen for a fraction of the price. A standard ticket is $19.89 (a nod to the title of her 5th album, maybe?) and $13.13 for children and seniors. Upgraded tickets are also available for IMAX and Dolby.

Tickets have already gone on sale on the AMC and Fandango websites. The movie will have at least four showtimes Thursdays through Sundays at every AMC location.

In anticipation of the demand, AMC said it has strengthened its website and online ticket servers to handle "more than five times the largest influx of ticket-buying traffic the Company has ever experienced before." Members of AMC's Stubs A-List program won't be allowed to use their rewards or discounts for the film, and AMC is temporarily reducing the amount of online tickets sold for other movies.

Still, AMC warned that customers "may experience delays, longer-than-usual ticket-purchase waiting-room times and possible outages" and will try to fix them as soon as possible.

AMC is also partnering with other movie theaters, including Cinemark in the U.S., Cineplex in Canada and Cinepolis in Mexico to get Swift on more screens.

The film is directed by Sam Wrench, who is behind similar concert films featuring Lizzo, BTS, Mary J. Blige, Brandi Carlile, Billie Eilish, Jennifer Lopez and Pentatonix.

  • Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film will be released in theaters in the United States, allowing fans to experience her impressive show that received rave reviews.
  • The film will premiere on October 13, 2023, in AMC, Cinemark, and Regal theaters, and tickets can be purchased starting August 31.
  • Fans will have the opportunity to see the highly anticipated concert film on the big screen.

It's been a long time coming for Taylor Swift fans — the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film is coming to theaters before the end of 2023, and here's how to get tickets. The mega pop star kicked off her latest mammoth of a tour on March 17, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona, and ever since, it has been all that anyone can talk about (aside from Barbie , of course). Swift's efforts during each concert and the thoughtfulness of every detail weaved throughout the show have been impressive, to say the least, and the tour has received rave reviews from critics and fans alike.

The Eras Tour was the place to be in 2023 (even though tickets were ridiculously hard to get), and now, Swift is making her outstanding show available to almost everyone (in the United States). Of course, the singer still has the South America, Asia, Australia, and Europe legs left of the Eras Tour before returning to North America in late 2024 to officially conclude the worldwide phenomenon. But since the demand for the Eras Tour is so high, Swift undoubtedly wanted Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie to premiere as soon as possible, with it confirmed to release on October 13, 2023.

Where To Buy Taylor Swift Eras Tour Movie Tickets & How Much They Cost

According to Variety , Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will be featured in every AMC movie theater throughout the United States starting on October 13, 2023. The concert film will play at least four times a day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, but it is unknown how long it will remain in theaters. The movie will also be available to watch in Cinemark and Regal theaters, so AMC Theatres will not be the only place to see the event of the year on the big screen. Starting on August 31, fans can purchase tickets through AMC . Tickets are $13.13 for children and $19.89 for adults.

Numerous fans of the singer were not able to secure seats at any shows of the United States leg of the Eras Tour, and it will undoubtedly be difficult to purchase tickets to see the movie on opening night. However, the supply will meet the demand, unlike the actual tour itself. As a result, many Taylor Swift fans will be able to experience the Eras Tour in theaters starting on October 13.

What To Know About Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie

After a five-year break from touring due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Taylor Swift decided that for her return she might as well play all ten of her albums (aside from Taylor Swift , despite the tour's marketing), and the result was the Eras Tour. Swift took concertgoers on a journey through her discography, and the result was an almost three-and-a-half-hour show where she played many of her greatest hits and sprinkled in plenty of fan-favorite songs. Given the cultural impact that the Eras Tour has had in 2023, it was only a matter of time before a concert movie detailing the show from beginning to end was released. So, on August 31, Swift revealed that Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour would be released in movie theaters in the United States.

In true Taylor Swift fashion, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will premiere on October 13, 2023. The artist's favorite number is 13 (she was born on December 13, 1989), so she constantly utilizes the number in her famous Easter eggs and her plans regarding her work. So, it came as no surprise that she chose the date of October 13 (Friday the 13th) to release Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , which will play in movie theaters in the United States.

It is unknown if Swift's upcoming concert film will be released on any streaming service following its run in theaters. Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour was released exclusively on Netflix, as well as her documentary movie Miss Americana in 2020. So it would make sense if Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour found its home on Netflix sometime after it leaves movie theaters. But only time will tell what Taylor Swift 's plans are for the almost three-hour project.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour movie made it into theaters by sidestepping Hollywood studios

  • Taylor Swift's new concert movie will be playing at AMC and other theaters beginning October 13.
  • In an unprecedented move in modern Hollywood, AMC Theaters is also the movie's distributor.
  • Here's how the deal was made — and why Hollywood is mad about it.

Insider Today

In an unprecedented move for modern-day Hollywood, a theater chain is releasing a movie on its own.

On Thursday, AMC Theatres announced that a movie version of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour will be showing in its theaters beginning October 13. But unlike practically all releases that play at its multiplexes, AMC is also the concert film's distributor.

This unique deal was made between Swift's family and the theater chain's CEO Adam Aron, according to Puck .

Swift's family presented the idea to Aron after they were disappointed by discussions they were having with several studios about releasing the 2-hour-and-45-minute documentary. The Swifts decided to cut out the middle-man and went straight to AMC, the biggest movie chain in the world.

With AMC Theatres in financial trouble (the company still owes more than $4 billion after taking on significant debt during the pandemic) and facing an uncertain fall movie season with the ongoing dual actors and screenwriters strikes, Aron jumped at the chance to showcase the record-breaking tour, which is on track to become the highest-grossing tour of all time .

Representatives for AMC Theatres and Taylor Swift didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

The terms of the deal are heavily in Swift's favor, though AMC will still make bank

As many Swifties have already noticed, the ticketing for "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" is unconventional. Regardless of location and showtime, there is a single fixed price for adults ($19.89, to replicate Swift's birth year and fifth album "1989") and another for children and seniors ($13.13, which is Swift's favorite number twice.) However, it costs more to see the movie in Imax.

The box-office numbers are likely to be massive. AMC announced Friday that the concert movie has become the highest advance sales revenue day in the company's 103-year history, beating "Spider-Man: No Way Home." Theaters showing the movie will also be required to play it for a minimum of four weeks.

Overall, the deal is great for AMC, but the chain won't be generating most of its revenue through the box office despite being the distributor. According to Puck, 43% of the box-office revenue will go to the other theaters showing the movie, and the remaining 57% will be shared between the Swifts and AMC, with the Swifts likely taking the bulk of those profits.

In comparison, Marvel's distributor Disney pockets 70% of MCU movies' opening-weekend box-office earnings.

Related stories

So, as always, AMC and the other theaters releasing the movie will be leaning heavily into concessions. AMC is already promoting collectible popcorn tubs for $14.99 and cups for $11.99.

A source at one studio that was interested in releasing the concert movie told Insider that an internal review of the Eras Tour done by its marketing team revealed that concertgoers spend an average of $300 at a single concert. Considering the spending power of Swift's fans, AMC can expect to sell a lot of these commemorative popcorn buckets.

You best believe Hollywood is fuming

In July, the Common Sense Institute estimated that in total, Taylor Swift's US tour "could generate $4.6 billion in total consumer spending, larger than the GDP of 35 countries." When those are the kinds of numbers we're dealing with, there are obviously going to be some folks who are angry they aren't getting a piece of it.

From movie studios to third-party, movie-ticket platforms, everyone was shocked by the announcement of Swift's concert film. Typically, all distributors are in the loop on each other's releases so marketing and screenings can be worked out months in advance. But when it came to "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour," Insider has learned that all of the studios were not given a heads-up.

Universal was burnt the most: its Blumhouse release, "The Exorcist: Believer," had to be moved up a week. It originally had the same October 13 release date as Swift's movie (and millions had already been spent marketing it as such.)

One studio source told Insider the whole thing is "a little scary" because the move by AMC — and likely success of the Eras documentary release — could lead to the chain becoming a "mercenary" in the distribution space.

This also leads to the big question swirling around the movie industry at the moment: How is this all legal?

Until recently, the Paramount Consent Decrees regulated how movies were released. Back in the 1930s, the eight major studios at the time had a monopoly on the industry because they made the movies and then also owned the distribution and exhibition.

Established in the late 1940s, the decrees made it illegal for a single entity to own both sides of the movie business. However, due to changing times, the decrees were terminated in 2020, although there are still antitrust rules in place.

The Swift family's deal with AMC brings into question issues about price fixing and denying competitors access, but the latter seems to not be a major issue anymore. While AMC was ahead of everyone, it's not the only theater chain that will have showings of "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour." Major chains Regal and Cinemark will also be screening it, and distributor Variance Films has been brought on to book the documentary at mid-level chains and independent movie houses.

It will be interesting to see how the industry adapts to this unique release, which will likely be the talk of Hollywood through the fall.

The movie will also screen in IMAX and Dolby Cinema at AMC, as well as in other premium large formats for the standard up-charge fees, which varies by format and theatre. AMC anticipated the rush of interest in the film from Swifties, upgrading its website and ticketing engines to handle what was expected to be five times more than the largest volume they’d ever experienced before. Even so, the AMC app reportedly crashed on Thursday, with fans encouraged to visit their local AMC in person due to the high volume of traffic that made online reservations unavailable at points.

In addition to hosting and distributing the film, AMC has also teamed with several other movie operators in the U.S., Canada and Mexico for screenings, including with  Cinemark  (U.S.), Cineplex (Canada) and Cinepolis (Mexico).

Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour is set to appear in thousands of movie theaters.

The “Love Story” singer, 33, has been on the road since March 13 and will continue to tour until Nov. 23, 2024.

As some fans have been unable to see her live shows , Swift has now enabled her show to come to fans by releasing an Eras Tour concert film at every AMC Theatre in the U.S.

"The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon 😆," Swift posted on Instagram Thursday.

"Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! Tickets are on sale now at amctheatres.com. Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged 🫶 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk)"

From Oct. 13, fans will be able to watch footage of Swift's tour for an adult ticket price of $19.89 (plus tax), while kids and senior tickets are priced at $13.13 (plus tax). This, however, doesn’t include AMC’s branded premium large-format screens.

Fans also have plenty of showtimes to choose from as the “theatrical concert experience” will be shown four times a day at every AMC theater on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

“TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR concert film will be available in IMAX at AMC and Dolby Cinema at AMC and at AMC’s other branded premium large format screens for their standard upcharges,” reads a release from AMC Theaters.

"After years of wanting to play in Mexico City, just got to play 4 of the most unforgettable shows for the most beautiful and generous fans," Swift wrote on Instagram alongside pictures from her shows. “Feeling so grateful for the memories we’re making together on this tour 🥹 TE AMO. 🇲🇽.”

Earlier this month, sources confirmed to PEOPLE that Swift gave bonuses to each member of her Eras Tour, reaching a total of $55 million .

CNN also revealed that Swift gave Eras Tour truck drivers $100,000 bonuses and handwritten letters for their efforts on the tour.

“The typical amount is $5,000 to $10,000 each. So this large amount is unbelievable," Michael Scherkenbach, founder and CEO of Shomotion trucking company, told the outlet.

“These men and women, they live on the road. They sleep during the day and work all night,” he added. “It’s a grueling task. They leave their families, young children for weeks. For Taylor’s tour, they’ve been away from home for 24 weeks.”

Didn't get tickets to see Taylor Swift's Eras Tour ? No worries: It'll soon be playing in a theater near you.

A concert film documenting Taylor's record-breaking tour will be shown in thousands of movie theaters throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico starting Oct. 13, it was announced Thursday on " Good Morning America ." The movie, called "TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR," will play at least four times a day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at every AMC theater location in the U.S., and at other movie chains across the rest of North America.

Tickets are on sale now at AMCTheatres.com , regmovies.com , Cinemark.com and Fandango.com . AMC is also going to serve as a distributor for any other movie theater operators interested in showing the movie.

Adult tickets will cost $19.89 plus tax, in honor of "1989 (Taylor's Version)," which is also coming out in October. Children's and senior tickets will cost $13.13 plus tax, in honor of Taylor's favorite number. Those prices will be good for all screenings, except for "premium large format screens," such as IMAX, which will carry an upcharge.

AMC says it has upgraded its website and ticketing systems to handle the demand. However, the company still warns of delays, long waiting times and possible outages.

In addition, no free movie passes will be accepted and AMC Stubs A-List members won't be able to use their memberships to reserve tickets. AMC is also temporarily limiting website ticketing ability for most other movies titles.

Taylor's next Eras Tour stop is Nov. 9 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The tour has shattered concert-sale records with more than 3 million fans packing arenas across the United States in the first leg in the U.S., according to the release.

Are you ready for it? Taylor Swift is here to save movie theaters.

Her “Eras Tour” concert film, which opens theatrically on Oct. 13, has already earned a massive $26 million in presale tickets at AMC Theatres. It set a single-day ticket sale record for AMC, besting the benchmark previously held by “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($16.9 million) less than three hours after tickets went on sale, according to the cinema chain.

“Taylor Swift is giving moviegoing fans and the entire industry the ultimate gift by bringing ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ concert film to the big screen,” said Jerramy Hainline, senior VP at Fandango Ticketing. “Not only is Taylor Swift’s concert film the best first-day ticket seller of the year on Fandango, but the concert film is performing like the superhero she is and ranking among the best first-day ticket sellers of all time from franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, DC Comics and more.”

Swift’s concert film, a rendering of her record-breaking stadium tour, is going to be a huge boon to movie theaters this fall, especially after the vacancy left by “Dune: Part II,” which recently moved from November to March 2024. With this level of demand, exhibitors privately believe a $100 million-plus opening weekend is possible, which is unprecedented business for this kind of movie. In fact, only five films this year — “Barbie,” “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” — have hit triple digits in their debuts.

Prices, in true Swift fashion, are numerically loaded with tickets at $19.89 for adults, $13.13 for children and seniors, on standard screens. Imax and Dolby tickets will cost more.
