The Travel Corp. Is Offering Three New FAM Trips in 2023

The Travel Corporation (TTC) Tour Brands are adding three new FAM trip opportunities for travel advisors next year, including one in the U.S. and two in Europe.

All the trips will give advisors the opportunity to get some first-hand experience on some of TTC’s brands, including Trafalgar, Insight, Costsaver, Contiki, and Luxury Gold. According to TTC Tour Brands North America Brands president Melissa DaSilva, advisors have “always been key to our sales proposition, and now more than ever, we understand the importance of hands-on, personal experiences to interact with and understand each of our brands.”

“Consumers seek advisors for their incredible depth of knowledge and through these new FAMs, as well as our suite of travel advisor programs, we’re giving them the tools to guide clients from the inspiration journey to the sale, setting them up for success across our brands.”

Here are the trips:

Taste & Sounds of the South FAM Trip, a U.S.-based itinerary that takes advisors from Nashville to New Orleans on May 8 through 15, 2023. The trip gives advisors a taste of a different TTC Tour Brand each day, from Trafalgar to Costsaver, Contiki, Insight, and Luxury Gold. Experiences include a visit to the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis (a Costsaver Make Travel Matter Experience) and a dinner at the Lansdowne Plantation during the Trafalgar Day in Natchez, Mississippi.
Independent Travel Consultants Italy FAM, another multi-brand trip, this itinerary, scheduled on March 24 through 30, 2023, takes advisors to iconic cities including Rome, Venice, Florence, Pisa, and more. This one also includes a Make Travel Matter Experience, this time in Perugia where advisors can visit an artisanal workshop to learn about the art of loom-weaving textiles from a recipient of the Treadright Foundation grant. It also includes a cruise of the Venetian lagoon to Burano in Venice.
Captivating Croatia Fam Trip, an Insight Vacations itinerary. This tour, which runs from May 7 through 12, 2023, starts in Zagreb with a city tour by a local expert and then to Plitvice National Park, where advisors can choose between two Make Travel matter Experiences. The tour also includes visits to Split, Dubrovnik, and more.

In 2018 I decided to become a travel blogger. Then in 2019 I decided I would become a travel advisor. Instead of just writing about travel I would book travel for others as well. Let me just say that I jumped in with both feet, knowing absolutely nothing about what I was doing!

I didn’t just become an advisor, I started my own agency too. Looking back it is almost comical. However, knowing nothing means I had a lot to learn and that is exactly what I did.

I now have a thriving agency, I travel 200+ days a year and I have 10 amazing travel advisors working in the agency along with me. Our agency books every kind of travel you can dream of, in every corner of the world.

We have created partnerships with some amazing brands in a short amount of time. The one I am most proud of is our partnership with Sandals and Beaches Resorts. Here’s some of the successes, and my top 11 ways to grow your business with Sandals and Beaches Resorts…

1. Become a Certified Sandals Specialist (CSS)

The first step to selling Sandals and Beaches is knowing everything about their brand. Sandals and Beaches now offers an online training course providing all the knowledge you need to focus and effectively grow your Sandals and Beaches Business. As you complete each lesson you will have the tools and information needed to start booking.

Upon completion of the online training and having one registered and traveled booking you will become a Certified Sandals Specialists (CSS). You are now on your way.

Depending on the number of rooms booked per year, agents will earn silver, gold or platinum status as a CSS agent earning more and more benefits along the way. Advisors that have 100 rooms or 700 room nights (traveled) per year will earn the coveted Chairman’s Royal Club (CRC) status with Sandals providing even more benefits and maximum commission within the brand.

I was ecstatic to earn CRC in 2022, just 3 years after teaming up with Sandals. Especially considering that one of those years was 2020. I owe most of this to the relationship I have with my Sandals Business Development Manager.

2. Work closely with your Business Development Manager (BDM)

More than likely, your BDM will be the first person to reach out to you after signing up with Sandals and becoming certified with the brand. If not, you can find the BDM assigned to your territory in the TA Portal under Sales Tools – BDM Directory. Your BDM is your first point of contact, your go to for all questions and your biggest cheerleader. All of the BDM’s have received extensive training with the brand and have connections with the resorts to answer any questions they may not know. As soon as possible, plan a meeting with your BDM for coffee or lunch. They are full of valuable resources to get you started on your way to success.

I first met my BDM, Cheryl Snavely, at Panera Bread for lunch in September 2019. She was full of energy, information and lots of ideas. I left our meeting 2 hours later with bags of brochures and fully registered for my first FAM (familiarization) trip for October 2019. That was just the beginning for us.

Cheryl has been a key reason for my success with the brand.

3. Know the Brand – Visit the Resorts

It is one thing to learn about the brand, and it is one thing to know the brand like the back of your hand; and it really makes a difference to clients.

You will learn about the brand and the resorts during the training, but the real learning comes from experiencing the resorts for yourself. You have to walk the properties, dine in the restaurants, enjoy the entertainment, swim in the pools and lay on the beach. Clients can visit the Sandals website for the facts but if they contact a travel advisor they want to know more than that. They want to know the vibe of the resort. How far a certain room is from the main pool. Which restaurants are beachfront. How hard is it to get chairs on the beach. Do you really need a butler? They want to know everything from someone with firsthand experience.

That is why I made it a point to visit all of the resorts as quickly as possible. I wanted to know everything and I can’t stress what a difference it makes. When someone asks me question about Sandals or Beaches, I can answer them instantly from experience. I can speak confidently and my clients know that they can trust the information I am providing to them.

Sandals makes it easy for agents to experience the resorts with three different options:

Points to Paradise (P2P)

Points to Paradise is a travel advisor incentive program that is used to earn points for your own personal stays at Sandals and Beaches Resorts. The more vacations you book, the more points you earn. The more points you earn, the more trips you take. The more room revenue your clients pay, the more points you will earn. It’s simple – for every room dollar your clients pay, you get a point towards your own Sandals or Beaches vacation. All registered bookings are eligible, whether you book a couple, family, or social group.

Travel Agent Rates

All Certified Sandals Specialists are eligible for the TA (travel agent) rate for their own personal stays. You have two options for the TA rate. Option 1 – $275-$375 per night (depending on the resort) for you and a guest. For this rate you choose the resort but you agree to accept any room on resort, usually the best available at the time of arrival but you accept no control over room selection. Options 2 – 20% off the advertised price. For this option you choose the resort and specific room you would like and receive 20% off for you and your guest. In this case you know specifically which room you will get.
FAM (familiarization) trips are a great way to experience the resorts and to network with fellow travel advisors. These trips, most recently better know as Back to the Beach events, are by invite only and can be arranged by your BDM. FAM trips are strictly limited to travel advisors meaning guests are not allowed to travel with you. There is no cost to take part in a FAM trip except the cost of your flight. However, in return there will be requirements of you during this type of trip. Including, but not limited to, resort tours, classes, social media interactions, etc. There is some work required on your part for this type of trip but what you receive in return is more than worth it. These FAM trips have been instrumental in me being able to visit every resort in such a short amount of time.

4. Social Media

You must experience Sandals and Beaches Resorts for yourself and you must share the experience. When I first began with Sandals and Beaches I was constantly sharing my experiences on social media. Photos and videos of the rooms, food, beaches, pools, everything. This was very important to make sure that everyone knew I sold Sandals and Beaches and wanted to book their next vacation.

I have never been on resort that I haven’t booked trips for clients. Two trips immediately come to mind. January of 2021 in Antigua I secured 28 bookings in 3 days on resort. July of 2023 in Exuma I secured 15 bookings in 3 days. It can be done when people trust you and believe that you know what you are doing.

5. Create a website, and then set up a referral site with Sandals

After a couple of years of gathering content I moved further away from social media and more toward my website thanks to my amazing virtual assistant . I have spent time writing about the different resorts , the spa , the butlers and answering the questions that people are searching for on google. This has increased my business in ways I could not have even imagined. Now when people (who are already interested in Sandals or Beaches) search ‘do I need a butler during my stay’? They find the article I have written answering that question along with so much more. They also find my email address and phone number.

With social media, I am sharing with my friends and followers. With my website, however, I am reaching people around the world that are looking for specific answers to their questions. People that are ready to book.

Now it’s time to create your co-branded Sandals site. A landing page where you can send Sandals clients and receive a commission from sales. Best of all, Sandals does all the work of maintaining the accuracy of the site with all up-to-date promotions and rates – all you have to do is place a referral link from your website and they track that client’s visit. If they request a brochure, it will be sent on your behalf. If they make a booking, you’ll get the full commission. And if your client is unsure on what to choose, the e-chat representatives will assist them and YOU still get full commission and credit for the booking. Just another way Sandals will help you close the sale.

6. Sandals Road Warrior Car Wrap Program

Sandals car wrap program is completely free to all Certified Sandals Specialists and is a very simple process. First you choose the vehicle you want to wrap. It can be one you already have (as long as it is 5 years old or newer) or one you are looking to purchase or lease. Then you contact your BDM to submit a request. At this point you can choose the images you want to use and there are hundreds available (this is the hardest part).

Sandals then has the images custom designed for you to include your agency name, phone number and email. Once you approve the design, everything is shipped to an installer near you. The installation, along with everything else, is done completely free of charge for you.

Oh, it is not just for vehicles either! You can wrap anything – golf carts, RV’s, anything!

I have to admit that I fought this one for the longest time no matter how hard Cheryl encouraged me. I had a huge Suburban at the time and couldn’t image it wrapped. However, my only regret now is that I didn’t do it sooner. I can’t tell you how much business I have received from my car wrap. People stop me in parking lots, at the gas station and call me when they pass me on the road. I am now on my second car wrap and will never have a car that isn’t wrapped. Best part is, you can use your marketing bank funds (earned from bookings) to be reimbursed for part of your car payment each month if your car is wrapped.

7. Booth Space at a Bridal Show

Sandals Resorts has been known for weddings and honeymoons for the past 40 years. I don’t think there has ever been a bridal show without a Sandals booth. It is a great chance for you to get out and meet people. As soon as you decide you want to take part in a bridal show you should contact your BDM to check their availability. The two of you will then coordinate all of the details of what to bring and setup.

All shows are different. I would like to point out that you will not just meet bride and grooms at bridal shows. This is also a chance to meet mothers, best friends, sisters and everyone else that comes along with the bride for the day. Bridal shows are not just about selling weddings and honeymoons. They are about meeting the public, sharing information and getting your name out there. I highly recommend taking part in them.

8. Sponsor a Hole in One at a Golf Tournament

Sandals and Beaches Resorts are known for golf. They have some of the best Greg Norman golf courses; and golf is included with stays at many of the resorts. It is only natural to want to become involved in the golf community to make them aware that you sell Sandals vacations. The best way to do this is to offer something to them such as sponsoring a hole in one at their next golf tournament.

The first one we did was a benefit tournament just south of Atlanta. We offered a free trip to Sandals for the hole in one. And don’t worry (like I first did) – there is insurance available to cover you in case someone wins. Before the tournament you purchase insurance for the amount you want to be covered. Your BDM will help walk you through this process. If someone gets a hole in one and wins, the insurance pays for the trip that you book and make commission on. It is a win-win for everyone.

Best part is that during the day of the tournament you gain exposure from all of the golfers and spectators. Most of the tournaments allow you to set up booths with collateral. The one we took part in even let us man one of the refreshment stations on the course so we could meet each of the golfers as the stopped by for a drink.

9. Host a VIP Event (Vacation In Paradise)

Hosting a VIP event is a great way to get your name out there and connect your business with the Sandals and Beaches brand. The possibilities are endless with these events so you can let your creativity run wild. They can be small and intimate or massive events. You can work with your BDM to figure out what will work best to meet your goals. These events can be open to the public or invite only.

You and your BDM will provide information to attendees on the Sandals and Beaches brands to help match them with the perfect resort. These events can be group specific (pickle ball, diving, golf, groups, etc) or they can be generalized. The goal is to meet people and to let them know that you are teamed up with the Sandals and Beaches brand to provide them with the best vacation ever.

Marketing bank funds can also be used for these events as well so remember to tap into all resources available.

10. Advertise, Advertise, Advertise

There are so many ways to advertise these days. Even though most of us first think of social media (as you should) there are many other options to consider as well. You must get creative and think outside the box.

In addition to social media we have advertised in magazines, on billboards, in athletic program, in parades and using my car wrap just to name a few. Once again, marketing bank funds can be used for advertising as long as the ads are approved by Sandals. Contact your BDM for full details prior to selecting your ad.

The fastest and easiest way to increase your number of bookings is through group travel. You book one trip and then fill multiple rooms. These groups can be wedding groups, multigenerational family groups ( Beaches Resorts ), social groups or groups focused on certain activities such as golf, diving, pickle ball, tennis, yoga or wellness.

The possibilities are endless. Get out into your community and find a group that wants to travel together. Sandals and Beaches offers so many perks and amenities to groups traveling together. Your BDM, along with the groups department, can walk you through the options step by step.

Grow Your Travel Agency Business With Sandals & Beaches

To really grow your business, any business, you must invest. You must invest in yourself and your business. Invest time to learning and growing and developing. You also must invest the money. Build a website and advertise; buy the flights and go explore the resorts. It will pay off ten-fold.

Fine Dining

Sandals specializes in specialty restaurants and you never have to pay extra to enjoy our world of flavors. Each venue offers a unique ambiance and everything you order is always included and unlimited. Even tipping is not allowed. At other resorts the hidden extra charges can really add up. But at Sandals, your wallet gets a vacation too.

Never at Sandals. You're on vacation and shouldn't have to adhere to a schedule. Unlike cruise lines, there are no pre-set dining times or tables with strangers that you are forced to sit with every night. At Sandals, you can choose from up to 16 gourmet restaurants per resort and dine at romantic tables just for two. So dine whenever, wherever, and enjoy whatever your palate desires.

No. At Sandals Resorts, all drinks are included and unlimited – from premium spirits to top-rated Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks ® wines. You may pay more for premium brands at other resorts or they may be included only during set times, but not at Sandals. All alcoholic beverages are always on the house and available 24/7. If you're in Club Sandals- level or higher accommodations, we even include fully stocked in-room bars, replenished daily.

Resort Casual: Shorts or jeans, t–shirts or polo shirts. Swimwear must be covered. Shirts and footwear required.

Resort Evening: Dress pants or jeans for men, long or short sleeve dress shirts (with or without collar). Dress shoes or sandals. No shorts, t–shirts, sleeveless shirts, sneakers, flip flops or slippers. No hats nor caps.

Reservations for dining (most restaurants don't require reservations) can only be made once you arrive at the resort. You can rest assured that we will work very closely with you and our chef can ensure that the appropriate meals are available. Please provide us with your arrival date and booking number as well as your name and the resort at which you will be vacationing so that arrangements can be made for you to speak with the chef on arrival

Resort Information

Check-in is at 3:00PM. If you arrive prior to check-in, our helpful staff will safely secure your luggage and inform you when your room is ready. While waiting, you can freely enjoy the property's amenities, as your all-inclusive vacation has already begun! Check-out is at 11:00AM, so if your flight departs later, you can easily secure your luggage with us and still enjoy the amenities, like grabbing a bite to eat or sitting by the sea while you wait.

We accept requests for adjoining rooms and will always do our best to accommodate you and your friends. However we cannot guarantee that adjoining rooms will be available. Requests can be made on the comments section at the end of the online booking process.

Don't worry about bringing an adapter - we provide 110 volts outlets in every room so plugging your electrical items will not be a problem. Please note that hairdryers are provided in every room, so you may leave that out of your packing list.

There is a Registered Nurse on the premises at every Sandals (except Sandals Royal Plantation, which has access to the registered nurse at nearby Sandals Ochi) with daily office hours. Her services are complimentary but there is a charge for medication and/or Doctor consultations should these be necessary.

Sandals strives to make your vacation a memorable experience no matter what the degree of your mobility disability. Our accommodating staff members are happy to assist you with any necessary information and do everything to help you achieve total relaxation while on your beach vacation. It is important to let your travel agent or Sandals reservations agent know what your specific mobility issue is and the special services that may be needed. Some of our resorts can accommodate those with mobility issues; however, due to the nature and geography of our resorts, there are instances where mobility accommodation may be limited depending on your specific need. We will note your special requirements and make every effort to accommodate them. Additionally, some of our resorts offer beach wheelchairs, ramps, and lifts for convenient access to the beach.

Since all our resorts have water filtration plants on property, drinking the water in your room is perfectly safe. Bottled water is included in most rooms categories.

Vaccinations are not necessary to any of the Caribbean countries where our resorts are located. However, we suggest that you speak to your doctor for more information.

We accept most major credit cards (MC, VISA and AMEX) at the spas, gift shops, photo shops, and the front desk. We also accept cash and Traveler's checks at the front desk, as well as cash at the gift shops. Upon check in, all guests will be asked to tender a credit card to activate their room folio. The purchase of optional services from resort outlets, including the Aqua Center, Island Routes Tour Desk, etc., will be done by signing all charges to the guest's room folio. Purchases at Duty Free Jewelry Stores, which are not operated by the resort, are by credit card or cash.

If you are planning to travel off property for shopping and such, we recommend bringing some cash along as some vendors do not accept credit cards or traveler's checks. There are exchange bureaus at every Sandals Resort. All of the islands accept US dollars, but please note that you may receive change in the local currency. Additionally, you may want to carry small bills to tip luggage attendants at the airport and airport transfer drivers outside of the resort.

Your all–inclusive package includes roundtrip airport transfers and arrangements are made by Sandals – no action on your part is required. Immediately outside of customs at the airport, you will find a Sandals Desk. A representative will lead you to an air–conditioned shuttle bus that will take you to the resort.

Scuba Diving

If you are not certified, or have never been scuba diving before, PADI courses are available starting from US$140, provided you meet the medical requirements.

All certified divers are required to do a scuba orientation on the day of arrival.

The PADI Open Water certification is valid for life. After 6 months of not diving, you will have to do a complimentary pool check-out, which includes a review of 4 skills. After 18 months of not diving, you will have to do a refresher for a nominal fee. Levels at Dive Master and above will only need to provide a completed medical evaluation form.

Divers are not permitted to dive 24 hours prior to flight departure time.

Sorry, non-divers are not allowed on the dive boat.

We require 72 hours notice prior to your arrival at the resort if you need to cancel your dive course. 100% of the value of the course will be non-refundable if less than 72 hours is given for the cancellation.

No, all guests are required to be checked in on resort and receive a room number to then visit the Aqua Center with all required paperwork to register for their dives.

Sandals Resorts has launched a new series of Sandals Educational Experience (S.E.E) FAM trips and has invited agents to learn through interactive resort updates and presentations, as well as enjoy a personal experience by the Sandals brand.

A total of 17 S.E.E. FAM trips are available July through October, with 3-4 nights at various properties including Sandals Grande Antigua, Sandals Grenada, Sandals Barbados, Sandals Montego Bay and Beaches Turks & Caicos. Jamaica Sandals Resorts FAM Trip

Here is my day-to-day schedule on a Jamaica Sandals Resorts FAM trip I took this past December, where I had the opportunity to tour all of the Sandals properties there. As a travel agent, every year I get to go on familiarization “FAM” trips to learn about a particular destination and/or resort. My lovely and kind boss pays for it, 1 trip a year. In 2017, I had the pleasure of getting to attend TWO fam trips gratis . In the summer of 2016, I toured the Palace Resorts in Cancun , in the summer of 2017 I toured the Sandals Resorts in Nassau and Exuma Bahamas, and in December 2017 I had the privilege of touring the Sandals Resorts in Ocho Rios , Montego Bay and Negril , Jamaica. Below you will find the specifics.

Day 1 Sandals Montego Bay

2:00p – I arrived at the MBJ Sangster International Airport in the early afternoon. After a quick transfer to Sandals Montego Bay , I was “home” for the next 2 nights.

The first thing I did after checking in, was chow down on some Jamaican jerk chicken.

After that huge meal, and traveling for the day I was ready to hit the sack. Early start in the AM! Just look at the view from my room. Ocean view facing, club level room. Sandals Resorts could put us in the lowest room category possible but they don’t. They like for their agents to experience the higher end rooms so we can articulate our experience in them.

Day 2 South Coast, Negril properties

8:00a – After enjoying breakfast at leisure. We were off for our first full day of touring 9:30a – We toured Grand Pineapple Beach in Negril. I almost felt like Grand Pineapple Beach is the black sheep of the (Sandals) family that they don’t really mention but it’s there. It’s a perfectly fine property if you are on a tight budget. The resort complex is broken out into two sides, the cottage/land side and the beach side. I have pictures below showing the two.

After our tour there, we visited Beaches Negril . For those who don’t know, Beaches is the family-friendly portfolio of properties and are in the same Sandals family, and of the same quality unlike Grand Pineapple which is lower end. The property is a wonderland for kids and their families. So many activities and things to do.

I was blown away by the little touches of the resort such as the Herb Garden and a frozen yogurt restaurant for families to enjoy froyo with ALL of the essential toppings. There’s all these crafts and cooking classes for the little ones. Tweens, don’t think Beaches forgot about you… there’s an XBOX lounge here. I know I’d never see my nephew if he came here. Beaches Negril is for the family that wants to keep busy and have their days filled with activities and maybe doesn’t mind the noise of Elmo’s parade strolling through the halls with instruments.

After our Beaches Negril tour, we toured Sandals Negril . It was a cloudy day but typically you will see glimmering powder white sand and a beautiful blue at the famed 7-Mile Beach. Sandals Negril is great for the couple seeking a little more relaxation. It was a completely different world than Sandals Montego Bay which was very lively. One of the highlights of my visit here was getting a sneak peek look into the bridal center where the bride and groom will meet with their designated Wedding Coordinator to talk all the details of their big day.

After our tours in Negril, we went to Sandals South Coast where they treated us to a nice lunch with options including swodfish niçoise salads, chicken, shrimp, or vegetable quesadillas, Jamaican patties, and burgers. After lunch, we had more energy to begin touring the Sandals South Coast property. One of the many highlights was getting to take a sneak peak inside the over the water bungalows.

That timing is pure luck because I believe they were at 100% occupancy for the day, but we were able to squeeze in a tour before one of the guests arrived for check in. I was very fortunate. Sandals South Coast is a lovely property and I think a good balance between an active and a relaxing stay. One of the highlights of this tour was getting to see Latitudes Bar, which sits right over the water. There are hammocks all around it where you can lay and relax with your drink. It was a very cloudy day so I don’t think my picture quite does it justice.

After our tour of Sandals South Coast, the rest of our evening was spent at leisure. I just had dinner then went back to my hotel room so I could post pictures and videos of the tour and worked on sending out quotes to clients I owed. Despite what many people think, these tours aren’t for funsies or should be looked at as a free vaca. It is a chance for travel agents who are interested in learning more about the resorts they sell or destination, and are there to focus on how to improve their sales. Our downtime began around 5:00p each day, which is when my normal “downtime” begins from my normal 9-5 each week.

Day 3 Montego Bay Properties

9:00a – After breakfast at leisure and checking out of the room, we had a resort tour at Sandals Montego Bay , which is where we stay the night the last two nights. The only negative with this property that I will say as a caveat is the airplane noise that flies overhead every few hours is VERY loud. That might not be for everyone. The good news, however, is that the resort is incredibly close to the airport so it’s very convenient. There’s still a bit of construction and development happening on the property, so you’ll see a lot of construction workers, but the work they are doing is going to be a fantastic addition to the resort. So stay tuned! Highlights from this resort tour include seeing the nice chapel where guests have the option to get married and hearing the story of the Oleander Bar’s background.

After we loaded up the van with our luggage, we were off to tour Sandals Inn , formerly known as Sandals Carlyle. Sandals Inn is by far the smallest property in terms of number of rooms and property acreage, but don’t let that stop you from booking this gem. I’ll give you some advantages to booking here:

Lead in price . Although the price is fantastic, you will still have full exchange privileges at Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Royal Caribbean. Pay at 1, Play at 3. Free shuttle to/from properties.
Personal attention . Of course the staff at Sandals is the best so you will always have personal attention but because this property is so small I noticed a lot of name dropping from the staff. They all seem to know everyone completely by name. There’s even a wall with pictures of repeat guests that are now considered “family.” I don’t know how many times you have to visit to get your picture there, so don’t ask. 🙂
Location, location, location . While you are not directly located on a beach there’s a street you have to cross through before you are there. It’s also the closest Sandals property to one of my favorite areas in Jamaica “ Hip Strip .”

So do not discount this property just because it appears to be smaller. Below is a picture where you can see what I mean about having to cross the street to get to the beach.

After we left Sandals Inn, we visited the third and final Sandals property in the Montego Bay area, Sandals Royal Caribbean & Private Island .

This past summer, I had the privilege of visiting the Sandals Royal Bahamian property so I knew what to expect from a Sandals Royal property. It did not disappoint. I was SO excited that as luck would have it we were ALSO able to see inside the over the water bungalows here. For a full report on the interior, you can check out my blog post here .

After touring the property we then had lunch there at their buffet restaurant. Somehow, Sandals always manages to keep the quality even with a large quantity. Food was outstanding – jerk chicken, potatoes, salad, desserts.

After this tour, we head to Ocho Rios, referred to by the locals as “Ochi.” Beaches Ocho Rios would be our home for the next two nights.

Day 4 Ocho Rios

Let me start by saying that Ocho Rios is 2+ hours away from the MBJ airport and Montego Bay area so if I have clients wanting to vacation in Jamaica for just a few nights, I won’t even offer properties in this location because it won’t make sense. If a client has 5+ nights they can dedicate, then I recommend properties here.

9:00a – After breakfast at leisure we had a resort tour of Beaches Ocho Rios , a spa golf & water park resort. The facility was a good size and seemed more spread out to me than Beaches Negril which seemed more compact. One of the highlights of the visit here was seeing the Sesame Street characters parade through the resort. The kids’ faces lit up, it was so cute. Fun fact: did you know, for an additional fee, you can bring in Elmo to come and read to your kids a bedtime story? How cool is that?

10:30a – We got to tour the Sandals Golf & Country Club . Despite the name, guests from other resorts have access to this property if they want tee time. Forgot your golf clothes? No worries – the onsite shop has you covered!

11:45a – We toured Sandals Royal Plantation . This resort is all butler-level categories. This resort is small and intimate; perfect for the older crowd who wants peace and relaxation and wants to be pampered the entire trip. Jamaica’s only caviar and champagne bar are here, so if you want to feel fancy and have some extra $$ to spend, check it out. I enjoyed seeing the charm of this resort. Here is one of the pools. As you can see it’s much smaller than most but it’s just as nice. There are beautiful views throughout the property. While Sandals Royal Plantation guests have access to all of the other Ocho Rios properties, other guests do not have access to come here. Keeping the property quiet and relaxing for guests.

1:15p – We toured our final Sandals property, Sandals Ochi Beach Resort . This property is tied with Sandals South Coast as #1 on my top Jamaica properties. I really loved that they had this cool speak easy called “The Rabbit Hole” onsite (shown below). It’s also lush and mountainous.

In addition to the speakeasy, I also enjoyed checking out their nearby Beach Club where guests can grab a chair and catch some rays. Well… when it’s not gray and rainy like when I visited.

I also enjoyed checking out the private villas with semi-private pools for guests.

Overall, it was a very education tour that was jam packed with information. Although we were always on the go, and it was busy I did appreciate the opportunity to attend this FAM Trip. Ttc showcases brands with 2023 fam trips.

The Travel Corporation is offering three FAM opportunities in 2023 to help Canadian and American agents (including independents) get first-hand experiences with its expansive portfolio of brands. TTC Tour Brands counts Luxury Gold, Insight Vacations, Trafalgar, Brendan Vacations, Costsaver, and Contiki in its portfolio.

The FAMs include an itinerary to the American South, an Italy FAM for Independent Travel Consultants, and trip to Croatia, specifically designed for Insight Vacations.

This Insight FAM begins in Zagreb with a city tour, followed by an excursion to Plitvice National Park where tour participants will join a local expert to learn how research is monitored on the natural species of the park or to meet with the industrious women of the Tara Community Centre who produce handicrafts. In the Old Town of Split, travellers will explore the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace and more and try traditional konoba. On the way to Dubrovnik, advisors will make a stop at the fishing village of Mali Ston where guests eat oysters straight from the sea. Virtual Fams From Sandals Resorts

Sandals Resorts has introduced a new four-part series of virtual fam trips created exclusively for Canadian agents, and allowing them to visit Sandals and Beaches Resorts across the Caribbean – from the comfort of their own home.

The sessions — which began yesterday (May 11) and featured Montego Bay and Negril — are just 45 minutes long, but will provide agents with a wealth of product knowledge by showcasing accommodations and amenities at each resort they visit, along with useful tips that agents can use in their own client presentations.

The inaugural series of virtual fam trips will be hosted by Robert Smith and Giselle Williams, business development mangers for Unique Vacations Canada … and may even include a few special guests from various Sandals and Beaches Resorts.

Agents can register for either an individual fam trip or the entire four-part series. They will also receive a recorded version that they can play back at their leisure in the event that they are unable to participate during the live session.

Tues May 12 = Jamaica (Day 2) – South Coast and Ocho Rios

11:00am – 11:45am EDT
