Our fishing trips are some of the very best in the UK with our location here in St Ives Cornwall being a hot spot for all species of fish from the Giant Bluefin Tuna down to the small colourful numerous species of wrasse along with the very plenty full mackerel.

Our experience comes from a life long family passion for sea fishing and a knowledge base going back from shore fishing as a child.

The family run business has Dad (Sam) skippering Bluefin and Son (Lewis) skippering Yellowfin with Mum (Danielle) taking the bookings and running the day to day diary and schedule.

BLUEFIN’s trips start for the experienced angler who wants to target those big special fish including Bluefin Tuna, Porbeagle & Blue sharks (all tuna and sharks are tagged and released) right down to the family friendly and no experience needed 4 hour wreck and reef trips for Cod, Pollock, Ling, John Dory and Bass etc.

YELLOWFIN’s very popular Mackerel trips are a great introduction to sea fishing and also a great Cornish family holiday tradition which dates way way back.

These trips are great fun for young children and are only 1 hour 30 minutes.

This boat trip is our most popular and a great trip if you’re visiting St Ives for the day when time is valuable. The 1 hour boat trip to visit our resident Grey Atlantic Seals sets off on a 7 mile round trip to Godrevy Lighthouse or Seal Island both locations are beautiful and have colonies of Grey Atlantic Seals.

The skipper will choose which way to head off depending on the sea conditions and seal sightings.

This ensures you get the very best from your boat trip and will make a great memory of your time here in St Ives.

Along the way you can also spot a mix of wildlife from Dolphins to Sun Fish and a selection of sea Birds.

Bluefin and Yellowfin are very large 10-meter catamarans full of all the latest technology and safety features you would expect on a modern boat. Meaning you will be enjoying your trip on a boat that’s designed for safety comfort and space there is even an onboard WC.

Our catamarans design is twin hulled and twin engined this means there is a lot less pitching and rolling than a traditional boat so this multi hull design dramatically lowers the amount of motion, reducing the chance of sea sickness to a much lower level. 

The new modern engines are emission friendly and fuel efficient which means less dirty smoke and diesel fumes we can associate with the older style boats and most importantly the reliability and safety of having two independent engines as opposed to a single engined boat.

The lake is located near Limoges, France and It is steeped in history, dating back to the Napoleonic period. It is approximately 3 acres in size, set in a beautiful and remote wooded valley full of beech, ash and oak trees. Personally, I have been addicted to carp fishing all my life and my angling experience spans 4 decades. I have fished the length and breadth of the uk and France including venues such as Lac D'Orient and Lac Du Der to name but a few and in the UK I have been equally active from a very young age in managing and working as a bailiff at a multitude of venues including large reservoirs to setting up small intricate carp syndicates and to be able to give back to the sport and to watch others enjoy this beautiful past time young and the old alike especially in a lake where time has forgotten to me is sincerely heart felt, rewarding and humbling behond words. Within my years of angling, having suffered with mental health and addiction issues which I’m happy to say is behind me now I owe this sport a tremendous amount of love and respect as it gave me a passion, connectivity and a sense of belonging so i have been searching for a lake with very specific qualities that has been left to nature, untouched as nature intended, so that people could come not only catch fish, but also be able to create a safe space to fully recover mentally and spiritually and disconnect from the stresses of life in a unique environment. I believe I have achieved that and I want to keep the venue as natural as possible while catering for all levels of angling abilities with the welfare of my fish being of major paramount and the facilities will be in keeping with the lake so anglers can enjoy carp fishing like the era I can vividly remember as a boy watching Bob James and Chris Yates in passion for angling, before the sport grew in popularity to what we have today, which is in most aspects amazing for the sport, but for me it can often be a rather diluted experience but if we were all the same life would be boring. I totally appreciate that this won't be for everyone as people have very different needs from a holiday and at this point the fish are very koi, very aware of anglers presence so please bear that in mind when booking with us in this juvenile stage until they settle but I am working hard to introduce bait precisely so they accept anglers bait more freely at a natural rate. Welcome to Hemmingways Fishing

Since 1993 we have been offering unique guided fishing trips and fly casting tuition to individuals, groups and corporate clients, on the beautiful lakes and rivers of the English Lake District.

We catch and release a wide variety of fish, including some superb salmon and sea trout, wild brown trout, lots of monster pike from Windermere, an occasional charr, and some huge perch. You might even have seen us on TV with our friend Matt Hayes or more recently out on Derwentwater  on the BBC series Mortimer and Whitehouse go Fishing.

By choice we fish the quieter Lakeland waters and have access to some exclusive first rate fishing where we have the water to ourselves. As lifelong anglers we know which waters are fishing well, and have the skill and expertise to help you, our guest, enjoy a memorable days fishing in spectacular surroundings.

We  provide all you might need for a days fishing including quality fishing tackle, boat where appropriate, good humoured tuition, full insurance cover and safety equipment, guide service with our legendary shoreline lunch available by arrangement. All you really need are an Environment Agency licence for the day available either on line or from any post office, suitable footwear and a waterproof although the odd snack for the guide is always appreciated!

Most days are guided by well known Cumbrian angler and environmentalist Eric Hope. A member of the Game angling Instructors Association and holder of the Salmon and Trout Association National Instructors Certificate, Eric has a lifetimes experience of big fish and wild waters all over the world from Russia to Colorado and British Columbia, and has a knowledge of fishing in the Lake District, second to none. Eric is also one of John Norris of Penrith’s recommended guides. With the popularity of angling growing rapidly in recent times we have  recruited a couple of other great guides including  one time England fly fishing international team  manager and Guideline team member Mike Tinnion for some fly fishing days and Local legend George Gate to help on the lakes with perch and pike fishing. Meanwhile I will still be around to help visting anglers make the most of their visit to the Lake District.

Be assured though that even if you can’t get out fishing with Eric, a great days fishing is always guaranteed. If we cant fit you in you can always buy a copy of ‘Tales of a Lakeland Angler’ to give you a flavour of what you’ve been missing until your next vist to this beautiful corner of Britain!

This allowed us to fish and TAG mighty ATLANTIC BLUEFIN TUNA!

Mackerel or inshore wreck fishing, snorkelling, dolphin watching or a sight seeing cruise up the Dart or Exe estuaries, there are endless options! Hire the complete boat with skipper for quarter, half or full day.

Bass on Jigs and Lures 

New for 2024 is this specialised bass trip on the jigs and lures. this 6 hour trip is designed to fish the best state of tide for drifting the many reefs in the channel that hold our intended quarry. you will require your own tackle for this trip.

Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned enthusiast, our Forest Holidays cabins and lodges are ideally placed for some quality fishing this summer.

Fishing on Scottish lochs

Scotland - tranquil lochside fishing

Ardgartan Argyll : This is the perfect location for year-round sea fishing on the shores of Loch Long. Expect mackerel from April right up to early September. Near the jetties you can fish for other species including cod, whiting, pollock and conger. If coarse fishing is your preference, there is a small stream with brown trout right next to the cabins. Loch Lomond, a 10 minute drive away, has a large head of pike weighing up to 40lbs, and many other coarse fish. Remember, as with all coarse fishing around the country, you will need a fishing licence.

Strathyre : Right on your door step at Strathyre is Loch Lubnaig, a lovely location for fishing. From May to August, you can fish for salmon which are going upstream from the sea. There are also lots of perch and many other fresh water fish.

North Yorkshire - great for trout, coarse & sea fishing

Cropton & Keldy : This is mainly a trout fishing area with lots of trout farms where you hire a fishing rod and pay for what you catch. This means you can take your catch back to your cabin and cook it! You can also do some fly fishing, using an artificial fly or a rod and reel with bait. Coarse fishing in this area is very good as there are many local ponds, streams, lakes and rivers. The North York Moors website has an excellent guide to fishing spots , including the trout lake at nearby Pickering.

For sea fishing head to Whitby and Scarborough, just half an hour’s drive away. Both offer excellent fishing days, over the wrecks or the rough rocks at sea. There is some excellent rock fishing from the shore all year round. Ask at the local fishing shops for advice on the best areas to fish, staff will be more than willing to help, particularly if you buy your bait from them!

Fishing in Whitby, North Yorkshire

Heart of England - renowned fishing lakes

Sherwood Forest : Here in Nottinghamshire, you'll find mainly coarse fishing with a number of fisheries within 20 minutes’ drive of Sherwood Forest; Clumber Park Fishery, Sherwood Fishery and A1 Pits, a well-known carp fishery. Of course, there is also the River Trent. Renowned for its fishing all around the country, this river has everything: chub, barbell, bream, pike; you name it! You will require a fishing licence and can only fish the river at certain times of the year so check beforehand.

Forest of Dean : Close to the Forest of Dean is the River Wye, probably the best barbell river in the country. The river also has large pike and salmon, the salmon mainly running around the springtime. You can rod and line fish or fly fish.

South of England - head for the coast in Hampshire & Cornwall

Blackwood Forest : Coarse fishing in this area is very good, with some of the best commercial lakes in the country. The well-known Gold Valley, owned by the England international fisherman Will Raison, is only a 35 minute drive away. You also have a number of fly fishing waters around Winchester where you can just turn up for a pleasant hour or two’s fishing. Head to Southampton for a spot of sea fishing, either from the shore or boats.

Deerpark : As you might expect, Cornwall is mainly sea fishing. Boat fishing is very good for all species and shark fishing is especially popular, as the water is slightly warmer down here. There have been some very large sharks caught in these waters. You can also fish for cod, pollock, bass, tope and more.

We are off - the new season is here after a record wet winter the chalkstream aquifers are full to brimming with water aplenty to carry us through the season. as ever, i bring you your old favourites plus new opportunities to fish in co. durham , the lake district and yorkshire . i wish you well for the months ahead, not least the salivating prospect of the mayfly hatch..

Our chalkstreams range from the famous rivers Test and Itchen in Hampshire across the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Dorset and Wiltshire in the south and then to Yorkshire in the north, plus the limestone rivers of Co. Durham, Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and the Lake District.

Every river (we have over twenty) is very special in its own right and you will find a description, photos, location map, video and prices for each, plus my unique Tranquillity and Difficulty rating. Look out for the beats that have my Exclusive to Fishing Breaks tag, which are only available through us.

Here at Nether Wallop Mill, in the heart of Hampshire, I host our Private Tuition & Courses plus Children and Family Days from April to October. Everyone is welcome and with a beautiful thatched cabin overlooking a crystal clear, well stocked lake with five varieties of trout: blue, brown, golden, rainbow and tiger. This has to be the most wonderful place to catch your first ever fish.
