Best time to visit philippines.

With a year-round warm climate, expect hot weather when visiting the Philippines at any time of the year. Sea breezes prevail in the coastal regions between November and February, so travel during this time if you wish to take the edge off the heat. January to May are considered the optimum times to visit though, as it is best to avoid the typhoon season which runs from July to October and involves heavy rain, flooding and high winds.

Geography and environment

Consisting of more than 7,000 islands, the Philippines archipelago is located in the South-East of  Asia , in between the South China Sea and the Philippine Sea. Being a part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Philippines is home to many active volcanoes and a staggering amount of biodiversity, with thousands of plant, mammal, fish and bird species living on land and in the sea. As a very mountainous country, the Philippines is dotted with numerous peaks, which give way to deep valleys that are often studded with rivers and streams. Tropical rainforest occupies much of the landmass, with most of the population living on the low lying coastal areas.

Festivals and events

With a history dating back to 1210, this flamboyant festival is considered one of the Philippines' best. Think massive ostentatious costumes, loud drumming, floats of parading dancers, riotous crowds and a healthy dose of partying, and you've got Ati-Atihan—the Philippines' best shot at Rio Carnaval.

Grand Cordillera Festival

Baguio reserves the fourth last week of November to celebrate life and local culture with ethnic songs, dance, costumes and food. This festival spreads peace and tolerance and provides an interesting snapshot of the lives of the ethnic people of the northern Luzon area.

Iloilo City gets its chance to party with its own version of Ati-Atihan. City streets are decked out with colorful banners, street stalls sizzle with barbecued pork and chicken, and costumed dancers compete for glory.

Feast of Our Lady of Candles

This annual display of epic religious pageantry features a procession of the patroness, fiesta queen and court through the streets and town center of Jaro. Locals carry candles and a statue of the Virgin Mary to the town cathedral, where crowds of people wait. This spirited and vibrant festival is a great introduction to Filipino culture and religious celebrations.

Obando Fertility Festival

Want to see couples dance through the streets in aid of hopefully producing a child? Each year, the town of Bulacan holds this festival for childless couples who wish to produce children. Couples dance down the street to the local church, dance up the aisle and attend mass in honor of the three local patron saints.

  • Go stand-up paddling on Loboc River in Bohol Island
  • Take in the view of Mount Mayon, a perfectly cone-shaped volcano
  • Swim the crystal clear waters of Kayangan Lake in Coron Island

Travel Tips

  • The country’s Jeepneys are an easy and affordable way to get around. These bright coloured buses were created from the Jeeps left by American soldiers following World War II.
  • While the Philippines is a safe country to visit overall, there are some areas that are unsafe for tourists due to a high military presence, terrorism and other violent crimes. Research areas before you visit, stick to tourist areas and generally avoid the southern region of the country.
  • Don’t have time to brush up on your Tagalog before you visit? Don’t worry - the Philippines is the fifth largest English-speaking nation in the world!
  • Get your taste buds ready, because the Philippines has some of the best fruit juices and shakes in the world, and they’re sold on nearly every street corner. Be sure to try the Buko Shake, made of coconut flesh, coconut milk, coconut water and sugar.

Philippines has seasonal weather so please do check up on the best time to visit Philippines before planning your tour. And if you’re still hunting for more things to do and places to explore in Philippines, do check out our Philippines Travel Guide for more information.

Best time to travel to The Philippines

In recent times, the onset of the wet season in the Philippines has seen a subtle shift. It's now more prudent for visitors to consider arriving closer to mid-November rather than early October. Historically, the months of June through August were notorious for heavy rainfall and numerous typhoons. However, this pattern has evolved, with the dry season extending further and fewer rainy days recorded in these months. One notable draw for travelers to the northern Philippines during July and August is the breathtaking beauty of the rice terraces. At their zenith, they dazzle with a verdant hue, a testament to nature's splendor. Even in periods when they're submerged, these terraces captivate. The reflections of the sky in the water-filled terraces craft a mesmerizing mosaic of mirrors across the landscape. That said, the Philippines, with its tropical climate, is prone to unpredictable weather fluctuations. Whether it's sporadic rain showers or the occasional typhoon, it's essential for visitors to be prepared year-round. On the topic of typhoons: these are intense storms characterized by heavy rain and wind, typically lasting 3-4 days. However, it's worth noting that many typhoons have a minimal impact on daily activities and travel.

Spend the most amazing 10 days on Palawan. Some of the most spectacular views on multiple boat trips with clear blue water and limestone mountains. The cultural experience was especially good, getting to know more about the people and the culture. The kindergarten visit was super cute. And the crew went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and looked after. Can’t recommend enough. Our guide Jet, made sure we got safely to all accommodation, and made the trip super fun by including everyone and setting a good mood for the entire trip. A really nice and easy way to enjoy multiple aspects of Palawan.
Great tour, our guide Jet was fab and ensured everything ran smoothly and was taken care of - and provided lots of local recommendations! The tour is full of experiences you couldn't book travelling without one life.

I just finished my tour and it’s been absolutely amazing from beginning to end. We were really well taken care of by our group leader Andri making sure everyone was safe and seen while being a good friend along the way. He truly made the experience memorable. The itinerary was excellent and everyday was filled with something exciting. One of the best experiences of my life. 10/10
This was one of the best trips I've done. The itinerary was the perfect mix of activities and down time & I felt, hit the key places I'd travel to if doing it fully solo. Whilst the tour itself and the people I met on it were a big part of me having the best time, it wouldn't have been the same without our tour leader Andri. He helped join the group together before we even started and made everyone feel included once we got there. He was the best mix of chilled and reliable, super knowledgeable and put the needs of the group first like the wonderfully caring human he is. We always knew what we were doing and when and it felt like he made the trip run so smoothly - I only had to worry about turning up and having a good time. If you're thinking about booking this DO IT (and pray you'll have Andri has your leader)

This trip was excellent! Moya, my personal agent, was amazing and made my trip (as a solo woman traveler) comfortable and special. Moya provided daily itineraries, point of contacts, and handled any special requests quickly! He even provided what to expect, what to bring, and what to look forward to even BEFORE the trip began. What service. I told all my friends about the CPTH and Moya. The hotels are good. Clean and safe. A couple were really modern with roof top pools. I will never forget my experience to the Philippines and Moya’s kindness and professionalism.

This tour was by far one of the most amazing experiences of my life. This was my first time travelling to a Southeast Asian country by myself but I felt safe and welcomed the entire time. I enjoyed observing beautiful rice terraces, meeting friendly village people, and learning lots about Ifugao culture from my tour guide. The opportunity to stay in a guest house in one of the small villages gave me the chance to truly appreciate the simplistic life of the village people. My tour guide, Marvin Bunaton was a wonderful guide to have. He gave me lots of valuable information about Ifugao culture and made sure I was safe the entire time. I am very lucky to have had him as a tour guide. I recommend this trip to everyone who loves hiking and beautiful sceneries! If I ever come back to the Philippines, I will bring my loved ones and do this tour all over again!
Although my trek was very challenging, I enjoyed every bit of it. My tour guide Jonathan was an amazing companion throughout my tour making me feel at home. Would definitely recommend it this tour of Banaue, Batad etc

The trip was well worth it. All of the sights were beautiful and worth the long bus trips to and from Sagada and Banaue. It was a small group tour was only two couples. Fred was great as a tour guide. The Kamayan feast was very memorable and tasty at Bangaan on the last day. One of the best tours we’ve ever been on. Would definitely recommend it.
Amazing, rich tour with a lot packed in- serious value for money! Rohan was one of the best guides I have ever had, and he clearly loves this part of the Philippines!

Ronnie, our guide, was absolutely fantastic. Always available and attentive to our needs. He went above and beyond to ensure that the group felt comfortable and his attention to detail was next to none and even by going that extra mile to ensue we tasted the local delicacies. Would highly recommend this tour and hopefully you will have the extra perk of having Ronnie as your guide. Some parts of the itinerary had to be changed but the back-up plan suited everyone and was very enjoyable.

Please keep in mind that we don’t operate our tours during the main wet season (July, August, September). And in Asia, if it does rain it’s normally just for an hour or two and then it will stop.

Most nationalities including the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Europeans and most South American countries will generally receive a 30-day visa exemption on arrival for free. Brazilian passport holders can receive a 59-day visa exemption on arrival for free. You will need at least 6 months remaining validity and 2 blank pages in your passport. It’s also recommended to have onward travel booked out of the Philippines before travelling there, as you may get asked for proof of this before boarding your flight to the Philippines. For more information please download the INTRO Travel app here for iPhone or Google .

If you are doing an INTRO Travel group tour in the Philippines, all of your accommodation and transport are included, plus some meals and an awesome tour guide. A traveler can expect to need £300/ $365 USD spending money on top of the tour price.

Provenciano is one of the best restaurants in Philippines. If you are in Manila you have to visit this place. The best and the most interesting thing about the restaurant is that you can have Filipino food here with your own choice of sawsawan, which is basically dipping sauces. You can customize as per your taste and preference. The ambience is also pretty. The restaurant is a perfect combination of great food and an equally great ambience.

Best for: Cliff jumping and deep end swimming are extremely popular tourist activities.

2. Kayaking

Entry fee: INR 13/-

Tip: Watch your step when you’re crossing the bridge.

Best for: The bridge offers a great view of the emerald Sipatan River.

5. Watersports

Ariel’s point is a paradise for the watersports lovers. You can dive from the three planks placed on a cliff at a height of 3 to 15 meters. Or you can just play in the pristine waters and ascend the cliff with a bamboo ladder. The Ariel’s day pass has all possible water sports like snorkeling, kayaking, and paddle boarding.

How to reach: Ariel’s Point is a 30-minute banca ride from Boracay’s Station.

Entry fee: INR 2766/- per person

Tip: For additional protection, you should consider wearing a hat, sunglasses, a rash guard, and waterproof shoes.

Best for: Cliff diving is a very popular activity here.

Travel Tips For Philippines Tour

  • Bring a Hydro Flask which will keep the water icy cold even during the sweltering tropical heat in the Philippines. This will come very handy when you are tired and exhausted from the scorching heat. Not only will the hydro flask help keep the water cold but also it will reduce the single-use plastics for the environment.
  • Carry a water-proof phone cover to keep your phone safe during island hopping or going to any of the enormous waterfalls of the Philippines. You will also be able to take photos on the go.
  • Carry a power bank which will keep your smartphones and other gadgets charged. You will need this a lot as you might spend most of the time looking for maps and directions. If not, for photography and songs.
  • The Philippines experience a short burst of rain almost every day. Therefore, carry a rain jacket to avoid any hassle while on the move.
  • Do not forget to carry insect repellant or bug spray. Most of the destinations in the Philippines experience a tropical climate which is also responsible for the breeding of tropical mosquitoes here. Therefore, do not leave your home without an insect repellant or spray.
  • Carry universal international adapter handy.
  • Carry a small wallet or backpack where you can stuff all your important documents such as passports, travel insurance and so on.
  • The standard electricity socket in the Philippines accepts a voltage of 220v, and the plugs used are mostly type A and B plugs which are also the standard American plugs. Therefore, to avoid any hassle with chargers or electric appliances, get yourself a universal international adapter from home.
  • Although Filiipino is the official language of the Philippines, English is widely spoken and understood here. If you are going on a solo tour of the Philippines, you will not feel away from home. You can also know a lot about the local culture of this place.
  • You can actually save a lot on food during your Philippines tour. Food is basic in the Philippines which include lots of fish and rice. Fast food is easily available in the popular spots as you can grab a quick snack or two from Mc Donald’s.
  • Don Papa rum, the Philippines own produces is the local drink available at a pretty cheap price for tourists coming from the West. You can taste this authentic drink and carry some more for home.
  • The people of the Philippines are warm and lovely, and appear to be very friendly with tourists. You can easily interact with them in the major tourist areas, and gel along well.
  • The Philippines offers an array of places to see for tourists. But it is not possible to cover “all” the places in a limited time. Therefore, some of the most-recommended places you must see are Palawan Bohol, Siargao and Cebu. You will need at least five days in each location to enjoy, relax and explore.
  • Capture some of the best photography shots during your tour of the Philippines. There are so many stunning attractions that will make up for the wonderful pictures.
  • One of the best experiences to try in the Philippines is the Tao Experience. To enjoy it, board a sailing trip from Coron to El Nido in Palawan.
  • Local transport in the Philippines include taxis which are easy to hail. You will find plenty of taxis available for transportation within the Philippines.
  • Cock fights are a common pastime which tourists can enjoy. Just do not be taken aback to see the cocks fight in the villages and cities of the Philippines as it is a way of life here for the locals who actually spend a lot of time preparing their cocks for the fight.

Safety Measures To Follow During Philippines Trip

  • The Philippines is a target for recent terrorist attacks which means attacks can occur anywhere. Some of the areas which come under the threat are public transport, hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, schools, religious places and tourist areas. Be very vigilant to any possible threats.
  • Southern Philippines is infamous for kidnapping and piracy, especially coastal resorts and isolated locations. If you are travelling to South Philippines, seek a professional security advice. Also, make sure that your accommodation has taken proper security measures, and avoid travelling by boat.
  • Protests can be seen around several cities of the Philippines. However, do not get involved in any public protests and avoid large public gatherings.
  • Violent crimes are reported in the Philippines. Many of these crimes also involve guns and other weapons. You might also come across gunfights between criminals and police. Avoid such breakouts.
  • Take care of your belongings and do not leave anything unattended as pickpocketing is a frequent crime here.
  • Currents and rips can actually get very severe in the Philippines.Get a local advice or an expert guidance before you go out for swimming. Avoid places which are marked with red flags on the beach.

Some of the best measures one must take while traveling to Philippines during the pandemic are:

  • One must carry a COVID-19 negative certificate at all times
  • Make all hotel bookings in advance and ensure that you have a copy of the same
  • Ensure that you wear a mask at all time when traveling
  • Maintain social distancing and avoid going to crowded places
  • Keep a sanitizer handy at all times and ensure that the rooms are well-sanitized and hygienic.

The Philippines is a great place for island hopping and scuba diving, with over 7,000 islands full of white sand beaches, rainbow corals, and turquoise waterfalls.

One of the best known islands is Palawan , which has been ranked as the most beautiful island in the world. The island of Bohol is also popular for its exotic scenery and scuba diving.

The main airports in the Philippines are Manila (MNL) and Cebu (CEB), which have direct international flights from many countries in Asia and beyond. There are also domestic airports in popular Filipino tourist spots like Bohol, Coron, El Nido, and Siargao.

You can shop for flights to the Philippines on Skyscanner.

There are a few areas to steer clear of in the Philippines, but according to the UN it has a violent crime rate that is significantly lower than the global average. Some parts of Mindanao can be dangerous due to terrorism and kidnappings.

With that said, I’ve traveled in many parts of the Philippines and haven't witnessed any crime. Popular tourist areas like El Nido and Coron are safe, and attitudes toward foreigners are welcoming.

It's a good idea to wear mosquito spray in rural areas, especially during the rainy season, because some areas have a risk of dengue or malaria.

The climate of the Philippines is tropical, so the weather is warm and humid all year. There's a rainy season that runs from June to October (with the typhoon season generally being September and October), and the sunny season runs from November to May.

It's still possible to visit Philippines in the rainy season, but give yourself some extra days as a buffer in case of bad weather.

The Philippines is a very budget friendly travel destination, with  hostels available from 300 Philippine pesos ($5 USD) and private hotels from 600 pesos . Meals are also cheap, costing about 70 to 300 pesos depending on location.

Transportation in the Philippines is generally by motorbike or car, and these can be rented, but hiring a driver is cheap and often preferable. Transportation apps like  Grab  are great for getting around.

Global Measles

  • Many international destinations are reporting increased numbers of cases of measles.
  • Travelers are at risk of measles if they have not been fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to departure or have not had measles in the past and travel internationally.
  • The majority of measles cases imported into the United States occur in unvaccinated U.S. residents who become infected during international travel.
  • All international travelers should be fully vaccinated against measles with the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, including an early dose for infants 6–11 months, according to CDC’s measles vaccination recommendations for international travel .
  • Travelers should seek medical care if they develop a rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, or red, watery eyes. Measles is highly contagious. Travelers with suspected measles should notify the healthcare facility before visiting so staff can implement precautions to prevent spread within the facility.

Measles Global Map

Measles is  a highly contagious virus that lives in the nose and throat mucus of an infected person. It can spread to others through coughing and sneezing .

The measles virus can live for up to two hours in an airspace or on a surface after an infected person leaves an area. If other people breathe the contaminated air or touch the infected surface, then touch their eyes, noses, or mouths, they can become infected. People can spread measles up to four days before and four days after a rash.

Signs and symptoms of measles include maculopapular rash, high fever, and a cough, runny nose, or red, watery eyes.

Measles can be severe in all age groups and can lead to serious complications, such as pneumonia (infection of the lungs) and death. Several groups are more likely to suffer from measles complications, including children younger than five years of age, adults older than 20 years of age, pregnant women, and people with compromised immune systems, such as from leukemia or HIV infection. Common complications are ear infections and diarrhea. Serious complications include pneumonia and encephalitis (infection of the brain).

What is the current situation?

Measles is an ongoing risk around the world. Health officials in the countries listed below have reported large measles outbreaks.

  • Afghanistan
  • Burkina Faso
  • Central African Republic
  • Cote d’Ivoire
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • Philippines
  • Republic of the Congo
  • Saudi Arabia
  • South Sudan
  • United Arab Emirates

Measles spreads rapidly and may become a risk to travelers in places not included on the list above. CDC recommends all travelers are fully vaccinated against measles when traveling to any international destination.

What can travelers do to protect themselves and others from measles?

Travelers are at risk of measles if they have not been fully vaccinated two weeks prior to departure and travel internationally.

Vaccination with a measles-containing vaccine is the best way to make sure that you are protected. Infants 6 through 11 months of age should receive one dose of MMR vaccine. Infants who had one dose of MMR vaccine before their first birthday should follow the recommended schedule and get another dose at 12–15 months and a final dose at 4–6 years. Children 12 months of age and older, teenagers, and adults who do not have presumptive evidence of immunity against measles should get two doses of MMR vaccine separated by at least 28 days. If the child received a first dose with measles-mumps-rubella-varicella (MMRV), they should wait 3 months before their second dose.

If you are not sure if you or your travel companions are fully protected against measles, schedule an appointment to see your clinician at least 6 weeks before traveling so that you have enough time to get vaccinated.

Some people should not get a measles-containing vaccine or should wait. If you don’t think you can safely receive a measles-containing vaccine, talk to your clinician and consider making alternative travel plans.

What can clinicians do?

A self-report of measles vaccination or self-reported history of measles infection is not adequate evidence of protection. Clinicians should vaccinate anyone 6 months or older traveling overseas who does not have written documentation of vaccination or other evidence of measles immunity . Infants aged 6–11 months should be vaccinated with one dose before travel*. For international travelers 12 months or older, 2 doses at least 28 days apart are recommended.

*Infants who get one dose of MMR vaccine before their first birthday should be revaccinated according to the routine ACIP schedule (one dose at 12 through 15 months of age and a final dose at 4–6 years).
