Taylor Swift in Cardiff: Eras Tour timings, dates, setlist and everything you need to know

From timings and the seating plan to ticket availability, this is your ultimate guide to Taylor’s one and only night in Wales

Amy Houghton

This week, for one night and one night only, the Eras Tour is landing in Wales. After months and months of FOMO for us Brits, Taylor Swift has finally commenced the UK leg of her massive world tour. Her Cardiff show will be her first Welsh date in six years.

The Eras Tour is a mammoth, glittering 3-hour show that visits all of Taylor’s most loved songs from almost 20 years of her career. Of course, if you’re reading this, you probably already know that. The UK leg of the tour is already underway, with Swift having dazzled thousands of fans in Edinburgh and Liverpool .

Next up is Cardiff. Planning on  heading to the Principality Stadium sporting stacks of friendship bracelets and a brand new dress? Below is absolutely everything you need to know.

When is  Taylor Swift’ s Eras tour in  Cardiff ?

Taylor will be gracing the Welsh capital with her presence tomorrow (yep, tomorrow!) on Tuesday, June 18 .

What time will  Taylor   Swift  come on stage?

While on her Europe shows Taylor came  on stage at around 8pm, she appeared earlier at Edinburgh. She took to the stage between 7.15pm an 7.20pm. In Liverpool, however, one show started at around 7.45pm, while two kicked-off at 7.25pm.

In other words, get down to the Principality for 7.15pm  latest in order to avoid missing any of Taylor’s set.

Doors for the stadium will open at 4pm.

Are there any tickets left?

Your only hope now is tickets on resale – that’s very risky business, though. AXS and Ticketmaster, the official Eras ticket sellers have strongly advised against buying secondhand tickets from unverified sources and warned that they may not be accepted.  Still, keep an eye out on Stubhub  for anyone giving up their ticket last minute.

How much did tickets cost?

Prices began at £86 and went all the way up to £661 for the most expensive VIP package.

Are there any banned items?

Fans can only bring in small bags, no larger than 35cm x 40cm x 19cm. Besides the obvious (knives, blades, flares, lasers, pyrotechnics or anything else that could be seen as a weapon or start a fire), you won’t be allowed to bring in musical instruments, cans, banners, large umbrellas, bottles, glasses or airhorns.

You can find a full list of the things that are and aren’t allowed here .

Where else is  Taylor   Swift  playing in the UK?

Taylor has already played three nights in Edinburgh and three nights in Liverpool. After lighting up the Principality Stadium she’ll head to London Wembley  for a run later this week and then again in August. You can find out more about the whole UK leg of the tour here .

Taylor Swift in Cardiff: Concert start time, likely setlist and road closures

  • Taylor Swift
  • principality stadium
  • Tuesday 18 June 2024 at 2:49pm

tour dates cardiff

For one night and one night only, multi-Grammy award winning Taylor Swift is bringing her Era's tour to Wales.

The 3-hour extravaganza kicks off at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Tuesday 18 June.

It promises to take Swifties on a journey through Taylor Swift's almost 20-year career, with hits including 'Shake It Off', 'Cruel Summer' and 'I Knew You Were Trouble'.

With more than 70,000 fans expected to attend, research by Barclays suggests Ms Swift's visit is expected to boost the Welsh economy by around £64 million.

So, what do you need to know ahead of this blockbuster night?

When does it start?

The Principality Stadium doors will open for revealers at 4pm. Those with early entry tickets will be admitted an hour earlier, at 3pm.

The show is scheduled to start at 5:45pm and Taylor's warm up act is set to start at around 7pm.

Taylor, herself, is then expected to make her appearance on stage at 8pm.

Who is supporting Taylor?

Taylor has been supported throughout her European tour by Paramore, who are led by her friend Hayley Williams.

The Tennessee rock band's hits include ‘Still Into You’ and ‘Ain't It Fun’.

What will she be performing?

According to the website Setlist.fm, Taylor has opened all of her shows with the 2019 hit, 'Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince'.

It's also expected fans can be treated to 'Karma' to close the performance, but be warned - don't expect an encore!

Other hits she has performed during the tour include, 'You Belong With Me', 'Look What You Made Me Do', 'Long Live', 'Blank Space', and 'I Can Do It With a Broken Heart'.

Will the roof be closed?

Yes. According to the Principality Stadium the roof will be closed for the Taylor Swift performance.

How do I get there?

There will be several road closures across the capital to accommodate the tens-of-thousands of fans who will be descending on the Principality Stadium.

According to VisitCardiff, the High Street, Saint Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street and Central Square are among the roads that will be completely closed from midday.

Closures will have an impact on bus services. Cardiff Bus has warned people to "allow extra time for your journey" but says it has more staff across the city to help travellers get to their destinations.

For Swifties driving to the capital for the show there is limited parking available, but Park and Ride facilities are operating on the outskirts of the city.

At previous events, there had been criticism that the transport infrastructure was not up to the challenge major events pose.

The last time Cardiff hosted Ed Sheeran, concert-goers were stuck in car parks for hours and there were tailbacks on the M4 . When international superstar Beyonce performed in the Welsh capital, no trains were running on several routes due to engineering works on rail lines.

There isn't any planned disruption for the Taylor Swift gig, but Transport for Wales have warned that "trains are expected to be very busy". There will be "additional capacity where possible on routes in/out of Cardiff".

A queueing system will be in place outside Cardiff Central after the performance. TfW have told customers "to allow plenty of time for their journey".

Are there still tickets?

The short answer is no. When tickets for her Cardiff show went on sale, the gig sold out within minutes. A few tickets did come out afterwards, but fans snapped them up almost instantly.

However it is possible to get your hands on a resale ticket. AXS and Ticketmaster, the official ticket merchant for the event, have warned fans to be very cautious of scammers if they are looking to purchase a resale ticket.

Taylor Swift Eras tour: London setlist and everything you need to know

F orget the Euros, Glastonbury or Wimbledon. The hottest tickets in Britain this summer are for one show only: Taylor Swift’s Eras tour , which has now finished its run in Edinburgh, Liverpool and Cardiff and will soon cover London in a sea of sequins, friendship bracelets and excitable Swifties.

What time do gates open?

  • Secret songs

How long is the concert?

Of course, actually getting tickets for the biggest tour in a generation – my colleague, Neil McCormick , wrote in his recent definitive review that the Eras tour is “worthy of six stars” and more akin to a religious ritual than a pop concert – is only half of the battle. You might have beaten the Ticketmaster queue and planned an outfit, but are you ready for a three-hour extravaganza packed with secret clues and rituals?

Eras tour UK dates

Swift is playing 10 more dates in the UK and Ireland: the first three-night run of the London shows kicks off on Friday; then, the 34-year-old will be performing the following dates:

  • June 21-23: London, Wembley Stadium
  • June 28-30: Dublin, Aviva Stadium
  • August 15-20: London, Wembley Stadium

Here’s your one-stop shop for everything you need to know about the UK leg of the Eras tour – past, present and future – from timings, support acts and the 46-strong setlist to potential secret songs and special guests.

Fans with early entry should be able to enter Wembley from 4pm, with general ticket holders permitted from 4.30pm.

Swift’s main performance will begin between 7pm and 7.20pm (with the primary support act, Paramore, taking to the stage around 6pm, and the earlier opener expected around 4.30-5pm).

Which songs are on the setlist?

In order, the full setlist is as follows:

From Lover:

  • Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince
  • Cruel Summer
  • You Need to Calm Down

From Fearless:

  • You Belong With Me
  • We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
  • I Knew You Were Trouble
  • All Too Well (10 minute version)

From Speak Now:

From Reputation:

  • …Ready For It?
  • Don’t Blame Me
  • Look What You Made Me Do

From Folklore/Evermore:

  • Champagne Problems
  • Illicit Affairs
  • My Tears Ricochet
  • Blank Space
  • Shake It Off
  • Wildest Dreams

From The Tortured Poets Department:

  • But Daddy I Love Him
  • So High School
  • Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?
  • The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
  • I Can Do It With A Broken Heart

From Midnights:

  • Lavender Haze
  • Midnight Rain
  • Vigilante Shit

The majority of the Eras setlist hasn’t changed since Swift kicked off the tour in Arizona last March – it still opens with Lover and ends with Midnights, spanning 46 songs and 10 albums (her poor Debut still doesn’t get a look in). But the arrival of The Tortured Poets Department back in April resulted in a predictable switch-up, with certain songs taken off the setlist (The Archer, Long Live, The 1, The Last Great American Dynasty, ’Tis the Damn Season and Tolerate It) to make room for seven from the new album.

Fans disappointed at the changes can always hold out hope that one will appear as a secret song during the acoustic set – which immediately follows The Tortured Poets Department’s section.

The secret songs played so far – and what could be next

The secret song (or acoustic) section of the show is easily the most anticipated by fans. Every night is different – although Swift has abandoned her rule from the US leg that secret songs can only be played once, unless a mistake was made – with Swift having 11 albums of material to choose from.

Swift has swapped performing two full secret songs for ‘mashups’ including, usually, two or three tracks. Here is the full list of secret songs from each UK show so far, and which could be next.

Edinburgh night one:

  • Would’ve Could’ve, Should’ve/I Know Places & ‘Tis the Damn Season

Edinburgh night two:

  • The Bolter/Getaway Car
  • All of the Girls You’ve Loved Before/Crazier

Edinburgh night three:

  • It’s Nice to Have a Friend/Dorothea
  • Haunted/Exile

Liverpool night one:

  • I Can See You/Mine
  • Cornelia Street/Maroon

Liverpool night two:

  • This Is What You Came For/Gold Rush
  • The Great War/You’re Losing Me

Liverpool night three:

  • Carolina/No Body, No Crime
  • The Manuscript/Red

Cardiff:

  • I Forgot That You Existed/This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

I Hate It Here/The Lakes

Our predictions:

London: Novices will immediately suggest London Boy, from Lover, as the perfect choice – and of course it is, but it’s still highly unlikely that Swift will opt to sing an ode to her ex-boyfriend (Joe Alwyn) in his home city. More likely are Come Back, Be Here (where she sings of being torn apart by distance, with her lover in the English capital while she’s in NYC), The Black Dog (inspired by the Vauxhall pub) or So Long, London (in which she acknowledges that her break-up from Alwyn means a chapter of her life, spent living and falling in love with the city, has come to a close). Florida!!! could also see her bring out London native Florence Welch, who features on the album track.

Fans were left disappointed she didn’t announce Reputation (Taylor’s Version) on night one at Anfield in Liverpool – the 100th show – but all signs now point to her doing so on the first night at Wembley. After all, she wrote the album as an ode to Alwyn, and the city provided safe haven from the glare of the US paparazzi during her spat with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

For an outlier, Swift’s very first official single – Tim McGraw, which featured on her debut album – was released 17 years ago (on Tuesday 18), and she didn’t play it in Cardiff. So, mirroring her performance of the track on the very first Eras night in Arizona last year, could she whip it out at Wembley?

Another possibility is a special appearance from Gracie Abrams, the rising US singer-songwriter who opened a number of Eras shows in the US. Abrams’ new album The Secret of Us is released on Friday 21 June – the first London date – and features a collaboration with Swift on Us. It marks the first time, ever, that Swift has featured on another female artist’s album. Could they perform it together in London?

Taylor Swift’s set lasts for three hours and 15 minutes: up there with career-spanning performances from Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney and The Cure.

The main show begins with the appearance of a ticking clock on stage, which counts down from a total of two minutes while songs from Lady Gaga (Applause) and Lesley Gore (You Don’t Own Me) play in the background.

Once the countdown reaches zero, dancers brandishing ginormous, pastel-hued flags walk out on stage to a backing track listing her various albums (the crowd’s biggest scream being reserved for when it says “My name is Taylor, and I was born in 1989!”). Then, the fabric flags fall to the floor, lifts and reveals Swift beneath, in the centre, ready to be hoisted up on a rising stage block to sing a short version of opener Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince (from Lover) before going straight into her biggest streaming hit, Cruel Summer.

Swift takes no substantial breaks during the three-hour plus set – aside from various outfit or stage changes in between Eras – but there are fleeting moments you can rest, including after the Speak Now section (which is a mere single song, Enchanted) which has a slightly longer interval before Swift begins to perform songs from Red. Don’t forget, either, to put on the special wristband you’re handed on entry – it flashes different colours throughout the set and can often signal surprise songs or special moments.

Prepare your friendship bracelets

Whether you’re a bona fide Swiftie or the parent or guardian of one, I guarantee you will have heard of friendship bracelets. Inspired by a lyric from Midnights’ You’re On Your Own, Kid (“So make the friendship bracelets / Take the moment and taste it”), Swift’s fans wear armfuls of homemade, largely plastic bracelets featuring beads that spell out song names or inside jokes.

Then, once at the show, the fans “trade” bracelets with each other to make new friends. The internet is full of tutorials on how to make them, but if your show is drawing closer and you’re yet to make any, Amazon Prime is your best bet.

What to pack?

Despite what Gen Zs on TikTok may suggest, the Eras tour is just a concert. Thus, it doesn’t necessitate buying fancy new cameras, iPhones, earplugs or battery packs – but you would be wise to pack a jumper (it gets cold – and the ones for sale on the official merchandise will set you back around £60); those friendship bracelets, as well, of course, as your ticket.

The tour is completely sold-out for all dates, but it is worth keeping an eye on your emails as Ticketmaster are reportedly sending out last-minute purchase codes ahead of each date.

What to wear?

Sequins, glitter, cowboy hats – anything goes, as long as you go for it. Find the link to our all-ages guide on what to wear to Swift’s Era’s tour below.

What to wear to the Eras tour

Learn the fan lyrics

If you’re lucky enough to have tickets to the Eras tour, learning 11 albums worth of songs – plus the Vault tracks from her ‘Taylor’s Version’ rerecords – might seem like an impossible task. Unluckily, it’s not just Swift’s 274 official singles (46 of which make up the setlist) that you need to know, because the crowd adds special lines to multiple songs.

During Delicate, from Reputation, fans yell the chant “One, two, three, let’s go b—h!” after she sings “We can’t make any promises, now can we, babe?” Chart-topping revenge anthem Bad Blood, meanwhile, taken from 2014’s 1989, sees fans screech the end of the line “You forgive / You forget / But you never let it go”. Swift’s knowing winks during the songs indicate she knows exactly what the crowd is gearing up for.

Who are the support acts?

US pop-rock band Paramore are the primary support act for all UK Eras shows, and typically begin their 45-minute set at 6pm. Extra support acts have also been announced for the first three shows at Wembley Stadium: Mette (June 21), Griff (June 22) and Benson Boone (June 23).

A guide to the Eras support acts

Standout moments so far – concert by concert

The Eras tour is a tightly-run ship revolving around immaculate choreography, a watertight setlist and a performer renowned for her professionalism, but that doesn’t mean every single night is the same. The weather can be temperamental, Swift could bring out a special guest, or you might just spot your favourite A-lister lurking within the crowd (or, more likely, the coveted VIP tent in front of the sound desk). And of course, there’s the secret song section, for which we’ve dedicated a separate section below this one.

Edinburgh: Night One

Fans present at the opening show in Edinburgh were quick to record the moment Swift had to take a break from performing Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve on acoustic guitar – as part of the secret songs set – because of a pesky hand-cramp. As Swift put it: “My hand has frozen in a weird way. This has never happened before!”

Videos of her shivering on stage suggest the reliably-volatile Scottish weather was to blame. Another highlight came courtesy of her backing dancer Kam, recently in the news for his decision to buy a kilt (after worrying it was cultural appropriation), who contributes a city-specific line to We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together – Edinburgh’s first one being “Ya wee raj”. Think of it as Taylor does Trainspotting.

Edinburgh: Night Two

Proving that the secret song section is truly what gets the crowd (and internet) talking, Swift’s decision to perform Crazier, a track taken from 2009’s Hannah Montana: The Movie – that she has never played live before – had Swifties around the globe hyperventilating, not least because its inclusion suggested it will appear on the rerecording of her debut album.

Elsewhere, fans of Amazon Prime Video’s hit Outlander would have been wise to peer towards the VIP tent, where the show’s cast – including Sam Heughan – were busy dancing the night away.

Edinburgh: Night Three

Scottish singer Nina Nesbitt, who watched the third show from the VIP tent, shared a moving message on Instagram about her long-term love for Swift. The 29-year-old, who hails from West Lothian, wrote: “It was so special to hear the songs that made me want to pick up a guitar back in the place I’m from”.

Swift’s influence was also keenly felt during her surprise performance of Exile, in which the crowd – all 73,000 of them – dutifully sang Bon Iver’s parts of the song; you can see her joy in videos from the performance in which she’s grinning, in disbelief, that this many people know her music this inside-out.

Liverpool: Night One

You’ll be surprised to learn that Liverpool’s biggest Swiftie is not, in fact, a random teenage girl singing along to Fearless in her bedroom. Jurgen Klopp, the former Reds manager, who has spoken of his love for Swift’s music before, showed up on the first night at Anfield (wearing pink heart-shaped sunglasses, no less) to show his support. Elsewhere, Swift performed I Can See You, a Vault track from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), as the first secret song - fitting given it was filmed in the city last year. No appearance from Sir Paul McCartney - also an avid Swiftie - but there’s two nights left…

Swift used her 100th Eras Tour show to confirm that the tour will end this year, ending speculation that more dates would be added. “The celebration of the 100th show for me means this is the very first time I’ve acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December. Like, that’s it,” she told the rain-sodden crowd at Anfield. “I think that this tour has really become my entire life,” she said during her intro to All Too Wel. “It’s taken over everything. I think I once had hobbies, but I don’t know what they were anymore.

“All I do when I’m not on stage is sit at home and try to think of clever acoustic song mash-ups and think about what you might want to hear.”

Liverpool: Night Two

Stood just a few heads back from where Swift was seated for the surprise songs set, nothing could have prepared me for the first track: This Is What You Came For, the 2016 hit originally performed by Calvin Harris and Rihanna – that Swift wrote. It will surely be on Reputation (Taylor’s Version); Harris, Swift’s superstar DJ ex-boyfriend, clearly couldn’t be bothered to deal with the social media attention, because he deleted his account on X after this performance. I’ve seen Swift on multiple tours, in wildly different stages of her career, but seeing her on Eras – so confident and self-assured – is a privilege.

British rising star Griff, who will open for Swift on the second night at Wembley, was also present - warning that “if I don’t have a voice next week at Wembley it’s because I lost it at Eras a week early.”

Liverpool: Night Three

A highlight of the Red set is always We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, when Swift’s dancer Kem tries out his best local slang. The third night in Scouseland saw him listen to the TikTok advice and yell “Jog on lad,” much to the delight of the crowd. The Red trend continued through to the surprise songs, when Swift performed the title track from that album – an ode to love, but for one night only, Liverpool FC. Or, of course, the Kansas City Chiefs.

A special mention goes to the Swifties who dedicated a selection of friendship bracelets to victims of the Hillsborough disaster.

Swift had obviously been doing her homework before heading to the Welsh capital’s Principality Stadium, as she uttered a number of Welsh phrases throughout the gig, from “Shwmae Cardiff” (Hello Cardiff) to “Croeso I daith Eras” (Welcome to the Eras tour) and “Un, dau, tri, pedwar” (1, 2, 3, 4). Fan favourite dancer Kam, meanwhile, went for “ych a fi!” (gross) during We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. As the only indoor/closed-roof concert of the UK leg of Eras, meanwhile, some fans in Cardiff were left disappointed there was no firework display during Karma, the closing song.

Potential special guests

Swift has brought a number of famous guests on stage to sing with her throughout the Eras tour – typically artists with feature credits on her songs. The National’s Aaron Dessner, who produced much of her lockdown albums Folklore and Evermore, appeared in Santa Clara, California, to perform melodic break-up ballad Right Where You Left Me. The National are in Europe throughout the summer for their own gigs and festival performances – including a Sunday night headline slot on the Other Stage at Glastonbury – so he could make a surprise appearance again.

Then there’s sister-indie trio HAIM, who are personal close friends with Swift and featured on No Body, No Crime. Pictures of them out for a meal in London with Swift (and other famous faces, including Kate Moss, Lena Dunham and Andrew Scott) suggest they could make an appearance.

Other potential secret guests range from Lana Del Rey (who sang on Snow on the Beach, and is in the UK in August for Reading and Leeds festivals), Ed Sheeran (Everything Has Changed), Jack Antonoff (Getaway Car and more) and Zayn Malik (I Don’t Wanna Live Forever).

The secrets to look out for – and what they all mean

Ask any Taylor Swift fan what the secret to her colossal success is, and you might be surprised by their answer. Her emotionally vulnerable lyrics and 11 chart-topping studio albums come into play, of course, but it’s her Easter eggs – the secret clues she hides in her songs – that have established her as an unprecedented force in the music industry. And she’s done the same with the Eras concert, filling it with clues, tips and tricks hidden behind certain stages, lyrics or costumes that throw light on her life, her passions and her songs. Here we interpret it all for you.

The show opens with Lover – to mark Taylor’s creative rebirth …

Released in 2019, Swift’s seventh studio album was meant to get the full bells and whistles treatment: chart-topping singles (Me!, You Need to Calm Down, Lover and The Man) and a sold-out tour (“Lover Fest” was supposed to be a worldwide phenomenon, that included a show at London’s BST Hyde Park). Lover was also intended to mark a creative rebirth for Swift, whose popularity had waned following public spats with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian (that resulted in 2017’s Reputation).

Instead, Covid arrived, the tour was cancelled, and some of the singles flopped (although the album did feature Cruel Summer, surprisingly now her biggest, most-streamed hit). Swift had multiple reasons to open the Eras tour with the Lover section, and track Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince. The album was her first record to be entirely hers – following her legal battle with former record label Big Red Machine, that has seen her rerecord much of her back catalogue – and it never got its glory days because of the pandemic, so she seems to be picking up where she left off.

Some fans have even construed the choice to be aimed at former boyfriend Joe Alwyn, who she reportedly broke up with in March 2023 (the same month the Eras tour kicked off in the US), with Swift the all-American golden girl and he, the brooding British actor, the prince who wound up breaking her heart.

… Then the house burns down

For much of the Lover section, Swift performs on stage in front of a huge glass house with rooms nodding at previous music videos or Eras. As the titular track ends and she prepares to move into the Fearless era, the house bursts into fake flames and looks like it is burning down on stage. Could it symbolise the breakdown of her relationship with Alwyn, an end to her romantic side, or a potential hiatus post-Eras tour?

The Fearless dance

Nostalgia forms the heart of the Eras tour. Over two decades, Swift has released 11 studio albums packed with hits – from Love Story to We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together – and made billions of dollars from her music. The tour itself is a celebration of this (as Swift announces at the beginning: “We are about to go on a little adventure together”), as well as her old and new fans. The second part of the show is dedicated to 2008’s country gem Fearless – which won her first Grammy for Album of the Year – and features multiple nods to her younger years and earlier performances, including the jump and spin dance and heart sign she makes with her hands during the title song.

The meaningful outfits

Colours are important in Taylor Swift’s World, because each album is colour-coded (gold for Fearless, purple for Speak Now, black for Reputation, etc). Those signifiers form the heart of many fans’ chosen outfits for the tour, but also Swift’s own style choices on stage. When she announced 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in Los Angeles on August 9, she swapped her usual outfits for blue variants (1989’s colour) throughout the show. The show’s newest Era, dedicated to 11th album The Tortured Poets Department, sees her wear a toned-down spin on a circus ringmaster outfit for I Can Do It With a Broken Heart (a knowing nod to her 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards outfit) – a song about powering through heartbreak to dazzle fans and critics – while the logo on the t-shirt she wears during 22 (from Red) changes depending on the show.

One particular outfit to keep an eye on is the black and red, snake-emblazoned sequin catsuit she wears during the Reputation era – because it’s the only outfit that hasn’t changed since the beginning of the tour.

I Can Do It With a Broken Heart – and the Reputation glass boxes

ICDIWABH, mentioned above, is a defiant, gloriously poppy middle finger-up to anyone who thought Swift would buckle under the pressure of heartbreak and fame. “They said, “Babe, you gotta fake it ‘til you make it” and I did,” she sings. “Lights, camera, bitch smile, even when you wanna die”. The staging itself involves a motionless Swift, lying on the ground after performing The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, being picked up by two grinning circus masters, who strip her dress and replace it with the ringmaster outfit. After flopping and falling around like a ragdoll, Swift suddenly jerks to life and bursts into song – a true professional, at whatever personal cost.

During the Reputation section, meanwhile, and in particular Look What You Made Me Do, Swift performs in front of a collection of glass boxes containing dancers dressed in similar costumes to ones worn throughout her career. The song itself, which was originally aimed at West and Kardashian, is Swift’s way of standing up for herself in front of an industry who expected her to be the meek, good-girl country star, instead of a powerful woman. Taken together, the imagery of both songs (ICDIWABH and LWYMMD) supports this – Swift seeing herself as someone who hasn’t been allowed to grow up, whose entire adolescence (and now, adulthood) was catered to pleasing the public.

Taken from her fourth studio album, 2012’s Red, 22 marked a musical switch for Swift from country to pure pop. During her performance of the song at the Eras tour, she storms down the long stage with her crew of backing dancers to reach one lucky fan at the other end, who is handed the black (personally signed) trilby she wears during the performance (and wore in the original video).

Fans looking to secure the hat would be best to direct their attention to the Taylor Nation social media accounts – allegedly run by a combination of 13 Management, her mother Andrea and father Scott – who personally choose the recipient. One such lucky fan was the late basketball player’s Kobe Bryant’s young daughter, Bianka, who was handed the hat (and embraced) by Swift in Los Angeles.

The Folklore house

Between the pop-tastic anthems of Red and 1989, Swift brings down the tempo for the Folklore section (twinned with Evermore on the European leg). The album, which she wrote and released during the pandemic, was a critical darling; co-written with and produced by The National’s Aaron Dessner, it marked a switch from pop to a more indie, mature sound. During the set, she performs songs from Folklore and Evermore from atop a grassy woodland cabin (inspired by her 2021 Grammy performance) that is also home to the moss-covered piano where she sits and performs Champagne Problems.

So High School’s ode to Travis Kelce

When Swift began the Eras tour, she was newly single and heartbroken, tearing up on stage while performing for songs she had written in honour of former beau Joe Alwyn. Since then, she’s released The Tortured Poets Department, another break-up album widely interpreted to be about Matty Healy, the 1975 frontman who she dated afterwards.

But her current boyfriend, the NFL star Travis Kelce, has no reason to fear, because he gets his love story during So High School. Swift only sings part of the song, which is about her falling head over heels for this teenage-kind of love (and includes the line “You know how to ball / I know Aristotle”), but the accompanying dance is the clearest nod to Kelce. She and her backing dancers sit atop makeshift bleachers and “swag surf” – a waving motion typically used at US sporting events, that she was seen doing during a Kansas City Chiefs game earlier this year.

The Bejeweled TikTok dance

It’s easy to attribute the unprecedented success of the Eras tour to the rise of TikTok. The day after the tour began in Arizona in March 2023, I had seen it in its entirety – from my bedroom in London – thanks to people live-streaming from the concert, or uploading multiple videos. Since then, of course, there has been the blockbuster concert film, but the video sharing platform offered the first opportunity for international fans (or those who couldn’t afford tickets) to see the show.

TikTok even provided Swift with a free choreographer. New Jersey-based creator Mikael Arellano went viral in 2022 with his dance to Bejeweled, the ninth track from Midnights, where he shimmies and shakes his hands and body to the chorus. It racked up billions of views and sure enough, when the Eras tour opened, Swift and her dancers did the same dance. As a way of saying thank you, Arellano was even called up to accept the much-fêted 22 hat in May 2023.

The Script

Monday . Doors: 18:30

After 10 billion streams, 12 million album sales, six UK #1 albums and two Platinum-certified US singles, The Script return with the release of their new album ‘Satellites’ on 16th August 2024. Announced alongside news of a UK and European arena tour, the album is previewed today by the single ‘Both Ways’.

‘Both Ways’ sees The Script strike out with swaggering new energy, with boisterous hip-hop and funk rhythms providing the irresistible dance-floor vibes to complement the star quality of Danny’s voice. The result is frantically fun, an explosive cocktail that brings to mind Black Eyed Peas playing Bruno Mars’ ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ and it is a world apart from anything The Script have previously released.

Glen Power says, “‘Both Ways’ is high energy, and maybe not what people might expect from us. But we’re The Script, and now we have something to prove: that there is life and light after the darkness. It’s why we’re coming fast and strong with that one.”

Vowing to pay tribute to their friend (Mark Sheehan) by continuing the band they had built together, vocalist Danny O’Donoghue returned to the studio and experimented in a number of ways: using 808s and playing with R&B-inspired sounds, focusing on upbeats sonics, and co-writing with hitmakers Steve Robson (Rascal Flatts, Take That) and Wayne Hector (One Direction, Nicki Minaj) as well as bandmate Glen Power. What emerged is ‘Satellites’, an utterly uplifting collection of songs that forges a new future for The Script while remembering that although Mark may no longer be here, he remains a vital part of everything that they do.

Danny explains, “The album cover is silhouettes of me, Glen and Ben Sargeant, our bassist, who's been with us from the beginning. Then we have a hooded silhouette, because the air of Mark is still there. He always will be, but it's also giving a tip of the hat to the future. It'll never be the same Script. We're just trying to get on and do what it is that we all feel is the next right thing to do and that’s to keep making more great music.”

‘Satellites’ is available to pre-order / pre-save. The album is available as a limited edition hardback book CD, black vinyl and standard CD. The Script’s official artist store also offers a limited edition white vinyl, cassette and new merchandise.

After reuniting for select shows of collective grieving and joyous communion with The Script family in 2023, the band are about to head out on a massive tour supporting P!nk across the UK, Europe and America before returning to big stages of their own this autumn.  This will see them play to over 2 million fans around the world this year. Tour support comes from very special guest Tom Walker on all dates except Berlin, Munich and Milan.

“I spend a lot of my time trying to plan these things,” Taylor Swift said with a grin — and with classic understatement — as she strapped on her acoustic guitar for the “surprise songs” segment of her “Eras” tour stop in Cardiff, Wales. “I like to challenge myself to do different things every night [so] every single show is unique.”

Considering the unprecedented levels of attention the tour has attracted since it kicked off in Glendale, Arizona, 100 shows and over a year ago, this seemed like a bold statement.

And true to form, Swift went the extra mile to make the Welsh Valleys girls (and boys) feel special: Not only did they get a bounty of surprise songs (more on that in a moment), she greeted them in the country’s native tongue. Welsh is one of the trickier European languages to master but her rendition of “Shwmae, croeso i daith Eras” (“Hi there, welcome to the ‘Eras’ tour”) certainly sounded authentic.

Indeed, some parts are so familiar that the crowd didn’t just sing along to the songs, they spoke along to some of Swift’s song announcements. A few even tried to pull the exact same face as Swift as she said them. When even your facial expressions have their own greatest hits compilation, what can you do to retain an element of the unexpected?

A lot, as it turned out. It’s to Swift’s eternal credit that, despite all the above, seeing the “Eras” tour in the actual flesh remains a mind-blowing, heart-stopping spectacle that feels as fresh as the Welsh mountain air.

Waiting for one’s “Eras” date to come around becomes a game of musical “Deal or No Deal,” as fans hope there will still be plenty of your personal selection of high-value classics from the red side of the board in play by the time you take their seats.

Cardiff definitely got a “deal”: “I Forgot That You Existed,” from “Lover,” was mashed up with “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” from “Reputation,” complete with a hilarious take on the latter’s “I can’t even say it with a straight face” belly laugh — these songs being strongly connected in the popular belief that they are about the Kanye/Kim situation that roiled her world in the late 2010s, though she’s never acknowledged them as such.

And, just when fans were pondering the significance of that intriguing combination, Swift topped it by deftly combining a pair of deep cuts, “I Hate It Here,” from “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology” – a song she has never played live before – with “The Lakes,” a paean to England’s Lake District found on the deluxe version of “Folklore.”

The delirious reaction from the crowd was a tribute not only to the depth of her back catalog but the fans’ commitment to it, but Swift’s genius is in making even the more recognizable elements of this fantastic show seem special.

In fact, Cardiff had a decent claim on being the most distinctive of all the 101 shows on the jaunt so far. This was the first ever Taylor Swift headline show in Wales – although she did appear just down the road in Swansea at a BBC Radio 1 festival in 2018 – and Cardiff is the only city where she’s played for one night only.

That’s not due to any lack of demand. The streets around the Principality Stadium – usually the home of Welsh rugby – were as packed with delirious fans, ticket holders or not, as they ever are on a Six Nations match day.

And nor was it due to an absence of affinity between Swift and the Welsh – after all, she is probably the only international pop superstar to ever reference Wales’ national sport in song, declaring: “You can find me in the pub / We are watching rugby” on “London Boy” and even gave the original Welsh tortured poet, Dylan Thomas, a shout out on her latest album’s title track.

She also discussed her love of the “beautiful Welsh countryside” ahead of “Betty,” while a backing dancer interjected “Ych a fi” (which roughly translates as “disgusting”) during a rollicking “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and counted to four in Welsh during “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”

And no wonder. If tickets for the rest of the tour are the proverbial gold dust, ones for the Cardiff one-off date must have been diamond dust. Which meant everyone here was determined to wring every last drop out of the experience.

All around, mothers and daughters or groups of BFFs in classic Swift outfits (the “22” look seems to be the Era of choice for the moms) were in raptures. Tiny children in cowboy hats – whichever Welsh entrepreneur invested in pink Stetsons the last time Beyoncé left town will surely be retiring on the proceeds after tonight – swapped friendship bracelets with cool older girls keen to welcome them into the Swift sorority.

There were a lot of tears – the older Swifties may have been processing emotional trauma but, for some of the younger ones, Swift’s appearance in the same room appeared to have a similar effect to meeting “the real Santa.”

But there was also an enormous amount of joy in a stadium well used to hosting Welsh ecstasy and heartbreak. However well you think you know this set’s twists and turns, nothing can truly prepare you for watching total strangers bust out spontaneous synchronized dance routines during a jubilant “Bejewelled,” or multiple generations of female relatives putting aside concerns over bad language to scream “Fuck the patriarchy!” together during a devastating “All Too Well.”

There were too many onstage highlights to list, but take your pick from a version of “Style” that was as zesty as Swift’s lime green and orange outfit; a rendition of “Look What You Made Me Do” that rocked as hard as opening act Paramore; or a beautifully spooky presentation of “Willow”; as Swift breathed new life into even the most recognizable corners of the setlist, ensuring every single song earned its set piece status.

Meanwhile, the newest Era – “The Tortured Poets Department” – is already one of the set’s strongest. Swift smiled as she seemed to levitate above her dancers on a spinning glass block during an intense “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me” and, with delicious irony, threw herself completely into “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” complete with a preceding silent movie-style skit as her dancers cajoled her into getting dressed and getting back out there.

That song deals with her dancing through the heartbreak on earlier parts of the “Eras” tour but, tonight, Swift’s winning grinning felt authentically, wonderfully real, right down to her pronunciation of “Diolch o galon” (“Thank you from the heart”) as she finished the set.

Cardiff was also perhaps the only show on this leg of the tour to take place indoors. The stadium’s retractable roof – designed to protect Welsh rugby flair from the equally unpredictable local weather – was closed, despite it being possibly the only day of this typically soggy U.K. summer when it wasn’t raining outside.

Hayley Williams made it clear she’s happy to be in the unusual role of warm-up act rather than main attraction – “If you’re not ready at the end of this 45 minutes, we have failed!” – but her look of delight as the crowd bellowed the first chorus of “Still Into You” showed Paramore are much more than that.

A high-octane set of bangers followed, including “Aint’ It Fun”, “This Is Why” and “Misery Business” (the latter reintroduced to the set at Swift’s request), taking anyone unfamiliar with the band on the same journey as Williams’ T-shirt, which read: “Try It – You’ll Like It.”

The “Eras” may now be so big that it practically has its own time zone, its own Gross Domestic Product and its own unique gravitational pull. But, when you’re actually there, every moment from the opening “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince” to the climactic “Karma” remains gloriously spontaneous and, yes, unique. Rest assured, you have never seen anything like this before, even if you think you have.

Top 11 most expensive, in-demand music artists on tour right now & where to find the cheapest tickets

Trying to find affordable concert tickets to your favorite music artists’ tours has become an impossible balance of skill and luck.

Every time the biggest names in the music industry announce a new tour, the universal fan experience begins with hope and excitement, only to be replaced with shock and despair when faced with outrageous ticket prices.

Of course, that’s only if you’re lucky enough to add to cart and check out in time before tickets sell out within a few hours.

With a finite capacity at every venue, most fans find themselves in the latter situation, turning to ticket resale sites like Vivid Seats , SeatGeek and StubHub , only to be met with climbing prices the closer you get to the stage.

According to The Los Angeles Times , there are five major influences when it comes to ticket prices: the size of the artist, the promoters who organize the shows, the venues that charge to host them, the ticketing companies that add fees and the resellers, where the value is unlimited and agreed upon between sellers and buyers.

The critical discourse around ticket prices reemerges every time an in-demand artist announces a tour. Still, the system in place remains, so what’s a fan to do?

As a music lover on a budget who’s not willing to spend a couple of months’ rent on a single concert ticket, I’ve compiled the top 11 most expensive, in-demand music artists on tour right now according to average ticket prices and found the cheapest tickets available for every artist.

Prices and availability are noted at the time of publishing and are subject to change.

According to Ticketsmarter , the average ticket price for a Pink concert is $598.

Taylor Swift's economic clout has now come for Europe

  • Taylor Swift's economic impact boosted the US economy by billions.
  • Now, she might do the same thing in Europe on the latest leg of her Eras Tour.
  • In Italy, some hotel prices are up 45% during the dates of Swift's shows, one tourist company said.

Insider Today

"Baby, let the games begin."

The lyrics from Taylor Swift's "…Ready For It?" might be ringing through Europe's hospitality industry as " Swiftonomics " bears down on Europe.

Over the last year, Swift's Eras Tour and its affiliated film cemented her economic prowess in the United States , injecting billions into the economy.

Now, she's bringing that power to the European leg of her worldwide tour, during which she will perform in at least 18 cities.

Local businesses are seeing Swift's impact weeks ahead of her concerts. Swift doesn't perform in Italy until mid-July, but hotels are already booked and busy.

"Our analysis and data shows that hotel prices in Milan are on average 45% higher for the nights of Taylor Swift's shows in the city in July 2024, compared to the weeks before and after the show," Ben Julius, the founder of a tourism company called Tourist Italy , told Business Insider.

Related stories

Julius added that the concertgoers only stay for an average of two nights, but the mass demand is "creating a wider tourism trickle-down effect" as the rising costs of travel and lodging push other tourists to find other places to stay.

European economists monitoring inflation rates in the service sector are examining Swift's tour to see what impact it will have on Europe's economy.

Officials at the European Central Bank cut interest rates this month after inflation slowed, but there are concerns that Swift's arrival in different cities could cause a new uptick.

Because when Swift comes to town, she rallies tens of thousands of fans who will spend money on a bevy of services like restaurants, lodging, and local attractions. Some Swifties will travel hours — and across countries — to attend a concert, which puts a demand on airfare and other transportation options.

Barclays' Consumer Spend research found that Swift's tour is expected to boost the UK economy by £997 million ($1.26 billion).

Central bankers told The New York Times that even small changes to data could affect their decision to continue cutting rates.

"All those tiny quirks are going to matter a lot," TD Securities strategist Lucas Krishan told the outlet.

Krishan added that the service inflation rate could rise in August when Swift returns to London. Her tour dates — August 15 to August 20 — overlap with the day Europe's statistics agency records price data.

If the data shows too much increase, the Bank of England could theoretically pause plans to lower rates in September.

Economist George Moran told the Times, however, that he thinks it's unlikely Swift will impact decision-making at the Bank of England.

"Taylor Swift is unlikely to be affecting central bank policy. She's unlikely to be affecting government policy," Moran, who works for Nomura, said. "And I don't think it's a sustainable option for growth in a country to rely on having superstar concerts."

He told the Times the impact would likely be "more local than macro."

"Taylor Swift is obviously a massive phenomenon, and the areas that she's visiting is causing a big buzz in the hospitality sector," he said.

Representatives for Swift did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
