Travel Advisers: When to Let a Professional Plan Your Trip

An illustration of a person sitting on a folded-out map with books, papers and coffee laid out around the area. That person is inside the head of a beige-colored person wearing a teal telephone headset, and drawings of the Eiffel Tower, a compass, a signpost, a jet plane, mountains and other travel imagery are all around the head.

By Julie Weed

Decades ago, your vacation most likely began with a visit to a travel agent, who relied on a combination of expertise and connections to find the best deals on plane tickets, hotels, tours and more. Since then, the internet has turned most of us into our own travel agents, and artificial intelligence software is making research and self-booking even easier. But for some trips, that special insider knowledge can still make a big difference.

So when should you hire a professional, and how does it all work? Here are some tips.

Why should I consider a travel adviser?

It’s easy for a traveler to do the research for a standard trip, said Chris Anderson, a professor at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, “so they should look for a specialist for the type of tour they are looking for, say a bike trip in Ireland, who can really add value.”

The insider knowledge offered by a travel adviser can add the most value to trips that have multicity itineraries, involve a wide age range of travelers , are very significant (like an anniversary vacation) or are to destinations you are unfamiliar with, said Gary R. Johnson, who has run the travel agency Woodside Travel in Seattle for nearly 30 years. An adviser could help you decide, for instance, in which order to visit European cities based on local events and transportation options.

What can an adviser give me that a booking site can’t?

Travel advisers can help you research the best destinations, lodging, or activities for your particular group and travel goals, offering up specific advice that might be hard or time-consuming to find yourself. Those specializing in cruises might know which cabin to choose if you are prone to seasickness, while a safari planner could help you decide which park would be best for bird-watching or seeing specific animals, like rhinos.

Travel advisers typically have relationships with tour companies, hotels and cruise lines, sometimes through networks. Those connections can allow advisers to offer extra perks such as late checkout, free breakfast, airport transfers, a welcome basket or a credit to spend on a cruise ship.

“A good travel agent will be a better steward of your travel budget than you are,” said Guy Rubin, managing director of Imperial Tours , which arranges travel in China.

When bad weather or other circumstances disrupt your itinerary, travel advisers often have direct lines of communication with providers and can do the work of rebooking and changing plans, saving you time and stress.

OK, let’s say I need help. How do I find an adviser?

Networks like the American Society of Travel Advisors and Travel Leaders have websites that can help you start your search for a travel adviser by answering a few questions about your desired trip. Once you have a handful to choose from, get on the phone with them to talk about what they might do for you, how they charge and the level of service you can expect. Special trips can cost thousands of dollars, so it’s worth investing time up front, Mr. Rubin said.

Make sure to read over the travel agent’s reviews and any user-generated social content that mentions them, Dr. Anderson said. “If there is no external validation, that’s a red flag.”

How do advisers get paid, and how much will it cost me?

Advisers receive commission from suppliers, typically 10 to 15 percent of the price, when selling cruises, lodging and tours. They also sometimes charge travelers a planning fee, from a few hundred dollars, which may be credited to the final bill if the booking is completed, all the way up to tens of thousands of dollars annually for a luxury concierge travel planner they can call on all year. Mr. Johnson said that he charges a planning fee the first time he works with customers. If they return for other trips, he waives the fee.

Advisers may be tempted to sell you something that will earn them a higher commission, Dr. Anderson said. But, he points out, the same is true for the large online services, which promote hotels that pay them larger commissions. Travelers can ask advisers about specific commissions they receive or how they are affiliated with the products they are recommending, he said.

Sometimes a local tour company will package transportation, lodging and experiences for an adviser, who tacks on a percentage before passing it along to a client. But a bill that is not itemized can make it harder to make trade-offs — between a more expensive hotel and a special experience, for example. If pricing transparency is important to you, discuss it with the adviser up front.

How are A.I. and other technologies affecting travel advisers?

While new technologies are allowing do-it-yourselfers to create their own itineraries online based on individual preferences, and to type questions directly into travel websites, advisers are also taking advantage of those technologies to improve their services. Joan Roca, chief executive of the upscale travel planning company Essentialist said his team “uses technology to enhance the human touch,” employing artificial intelligence to choose options from a database of travel offerings selected by a human team. If a couple wants to take an after-dinner stroll, for example, Essentialist’s app will offer up ideas of where to go, based on what part of the city the travelers are in and conversations they’ve had with their travel adviser.

Here's what it's like to to book an adventure abroad through Viator, Trip Advisor's tour and excursion booking platform

When you buy through our links, Business Insider may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more

  • While in Croatia with my family this year, I used Trip Advisor 's activity-booking platform Viator to book boat charters abroad. All operators are pre-vetted by Trip Advisor to guarantee credibility and safety. Excursions range from $15 for a walking tour to thousands for luxury experiences.
  • Booking independently through Viator saved me significant costs compared to using a travel agency, and helped me plan my vacation in advance, with clear pricing and reviews from past guests.
  • I had a great experience with Viator and would use it again — but with a few changes. Next time, I'll make sure to ask more questions first, so I don't face any surprises. Here's what you should know to do the same.

Insider Today

I'm a lifestyle journalist with a focus on travel and trot the globe frequently with my husband and five-year-old twins. So I think of myself as pretty savvy when it comes to calling upon Internet resources (not to mention intuition earned through experience) to make bookings, even in places I've never before been.

This summer, I went on a two-week vacation with my family in Europe, hitting Greece and Croatia, plus bordering countries along the Dalmatian Coast. We spent a fair amount of time off the beaten path and there were a lot of moving parts. But I felt confident, and competent, that I could independently plan our trip, without the help of a travel agency. I know my way around search engines for flights, hotels, and deals.

But there was a blind spot. How would I book tours and excursions such as chartering a speedboat for our family to Croatia's famous islands?

I was relieved when I stumbled upon the activity-booking search engine Viator , which is owned by Trip Advisor. After reviewing various offerings and reading reviews, I booked two separate boat charters through the company. Both boats were clean, comfortable, beautiful, more or less as advertised, and operated by companies I would not have known how to access without Viator.

I'd recommend the platform, especially to anyone staying at an Airbnb without a concierge like I did, or looking for cheaper options than what a hotel or travel agency might suggest. But I'd offer a caveat from my own experience: savvy travelers must make sure to cover their bases to avoid potential pitfalls such as the one we experienced.

What is Viator?

Viator is Trip Advisor's platform for booking all kinds of activities during travel. Consider you might find 4x4 and camel tours in Dubai, a skip-the-line tour of the Colosseum in Rome, or a tour of the Grand Canyon by helicopter from Las Vegas.

Really, you'll find just about anything. The search engine includes options for a truly whopping 200,000 bookable activities in places all around the world making it unlikely that you won't find what you need. All operators listed are pre-vetted for credibility and safety backed by Trip Advisor .

Importantly, the site also aggregates millions of reviews, like what you'll find on Viator's sister site, Trip Advisor, so you have a pretty good sense of what you're getting.

How is Viator priced?

Naturally, price points on Viator range dramatically based on the location and the excursions' complexity. A basic walking tour might cost under $20 while a day-long excursion or charter could cost hundreds more. The more expensive of the two trips I booked came in under $1,000, and the rates on the site can soar depending on what you're booking.

The site is optimized for mobile booking, offers around-the-clock customer service in multiple languages, a lowest-price guarantee, and a 24-hour cancellation policy, which makes the financial risk in booking feel low.

In fact, I made use of that cancellation policy a few times to cancel and rebook similar activities when I changed my mind on the specifics, and also to flatly cancel a sightseeing tour I'd booked for our first day in Greece when I realized we'd all be too jet-lagged to bother.

I made both Viator bookings using my Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card  — both in U.S. dollars — and faced no trouble making these changes.

What did I book through Viator?

I'd never been to Croatia, but knew I wanted to see its beautiful islands. We were staying in an Airbnb apartment (a rare choice for me) instead of a full-service hotel with concierge, so I was on my own for finding out how to do this.

Poking around on the Internet for tours, I discovered Viator , which was previously unknown to me. I appreciated that like its parent company Trip Advisor, Viator heavily incorporates a review system, and the Trip Advisor backing gave me confidence. I booked two tours, each about three weeks ahead of our arrival.

For our stay in Dubrovnik, I booked a half-day private speedboat tour to the Elafiti islands , which earned an impressive five stars overall, with over 100 reviews on Viator. The trip for four people for four hours came in just under $400 after I used a 10 percent discount code.

Then, for the portion of our trip in the northern area of the country, Split, I booked an all-day private sightseeing tour with five proposed stops , including the famous Blue Cave and Hvar island. This trip also had an overall five-star rating on Viator, but with far fewer reviews, just 27 as of the time of this writing. The eight-hour trip for four people on the private speedboat charter cost $873 after the discount code.

These prices might seem steep, but consider that it's priced for four people, as well as the alternative. When I briefly felt overwhelmed with planning, I reached out to a Croatia-based travel agency. The land-only quote for a week in the county for our party of four was 12,000 euros. Booking on my own — including these two-day trips through Viator — cut our expenses to less than half.

My booking experience with Viator

After so much planning, our trip was at last underway. We spent a morning at a Dubrovnik beach club before our scheduled boat tour for the afternoon. That same day, the highly responsive tour company reached out through WhatsApp and email to coordinate transportation for us to the marina, where we'd be meeting our skipper and the boat.

They called a rideshare at their expense to meet us at the beach club and we arrived at the marina to find an impeccably clean boat and friendly skipper.

As promised, the boat was just for our family with amenities like shade cover and a USB port to charge up phones and stay ready for photo taking.

We set out for the afternoon on the Adriatic and were able to customize our itinerary, checking out bays, beaches, and caves at our own pace. The skipper snapped family photos and offered snorkel masks and drinks.

At the end of the afternoon, our skipper called us an Uber to take us back to the hotel. Overall it was a successful, fun day. And at under $400 for four people, felt like a great value for all we were able to do.

Unfortunately, it didn't foreshadow the more challenging experience we had on our next excursion, which was the full-day boat charter from Split.

For that trip, I had more difficulty communicating in advance with the operator, who was less responsive. I didn't get all my questions answered before booking, and miscalculated by making some critical assumptions that turned out to be false.

We arrived at the marina to find a boat that exceeded our expectations. It was a rather luxurious looking speedboat with room for 12 and was larger and fancier than our previous boat in Dubrovnik.

It was also more powerful, at 250 horsepower. While some people might appreciate that, the speed of the vessel scared our young children right away.

Our skipper was a devoted and experienced older brother, so he was well equipped with strategies to help calm our kids and took pains to make them comfortable. He even let my son "drive" the boat and honk the horn, which was a huge hit.

But my daughter was still uncomfortable as the boat sped through the open ocean. Off the bat, I wondered if this was something any ambitious American traveler would attempt with such young children had they known how rough it would be.

The skipper warned us that the Blue Cave would be backed up and crowded, and the timing might correspond to a bumpy afternoon sail. So we opted against it and chose a custom plan to mitigate the intensity. I appreciated that we were able to change the day's itinerary to better suit our needs.

Our skipper took us to a gorgeous, remote beach on the island of Vis, which was a true highlight with crystal clear water and a sense of true isolation. We swam from the boat to the beach, snorkeled, and took lots of pictures.

Afterward, we sailed to glamorous Hvar island, where we passed an hour or so with lunch in Hvar Town.

But it was after that, on the way back to the harbor in Split, when our challenges started in earnest.

It was squarely afternoon by then, and the winds had picked up; the open ocean was very choppy. That is to say, our boat caught full air and slammed back down — over and over again. There was nothing the skipper could do as this was the nature of the boat and typical conditions.

Although my kids (mercifully) don't suffer motion sickness, they were terrified. Anyone with young children and those who do suffer from motion sickness should inquire about conditions before booking any similar boat ride as I wished I had.

My son could be placated by heading back to his post as the boat's "driver," but my daughter was miserable for the full 75 minutes it took to get back to the marina and the waves soaked our family. Making matters more concerning, there was only one kid-sized life jacket on board.

I was regretful that I'd gotten us in this position. I hadn't adequately confirmed that this was the right trip for our family.

And although I generally feel like a diligent and capable planner, I'd continued with the booking despite not waiting for the answers I needed: Would there be child-sized snorkel masks? Would there be two child-sized life jackets? Was the water likely to be rough? Will we get wet or seasick?

The bottom line on Viator

Overall, I wouldn't trade either of the stunning boat excursions I booked through Viator . They made for essential sightseeing experiences for any visitor to Croatia.

The operators on both experiences were professional, and the services were provided as advertised. I also found the prices to be reasonable, much more so than if I'd booked through a travel agency.

I'll book through Viator again, but next time, I'll make sure I'm asking more questions and getting the specific answers I need first.

If a particular operator is vague or reluctant to respond to the specifics of an important matter, like child-sized life vests, or typical water conditions, I will move on to another operator.

As a now-seasoned Viator user, I'd say: book with confidence. Just make sure you ask a lot of questions specific to your needs and make sure you get them all answered explicitly before you show up on the day of your booking.

With the sheer number of bookings available on Viator, you should have plenty of options to keep moving onto another suitable tour operator until you find one that gives you all the answers — and confidence — you need.

Book a Viator excursion, large or small, anywhere on earth .

How to list your tours and experiences on Tripadvisor

There are over 800 million reviews on Tripadvisor, which makes it the leading review platform for all things travel. Most travelers check online reviews before making a tour booking — and more often than not, they’ll land on the Tripadvisor website.

So it should come as no surprise that tour companies can benefit from having a presence on the platform.

Tripadvisor can not only help put your tour company in front of more people, but it can also be a place to receive feedback from your guests .  When that feedback is positive, it’ll give future guests the confidence to book with you.

Once your company is on Tripadvisor, you can actually sell your tours and experiences through Viator , the platform’s booking partner. Even if you prioritize direct bookings, listing your experiences on an online travel agency can help you build brand recognition and reach people all over the world.

In this post, you’ll learn that listing your company on Tripadvsior isn’t difficult. In fact, your company may already be there without you even knowing.

If you’re wondering how to get listed on Tripadvisor and how to manage tour bookings through the platform, you’ve come to the right place.

  • How much does it cost to appear on Tripadvisor?
  • How do I create a listing for my company on Tripadvisor

Manually create a new listing for your company on Tripadvisor

Automatically manage bookings with your booking software, how much does it cost to appear on tripadvisor .

There are no fees associated with listing your business on TripAdvisor. In fact, there’s a good chance that your business is already on there.

Any time a guest reviews a hotel, restaurant, or tour operator for the first time, Tripadvisor will generate a listing for that business. So if one of your guests previously reviewed your company, you’ll already have a profile on the platform.

You can go ahead and check if your business is already listed by searching for your company name here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Owners .

Surprise! Your business is already listed on the platform, isn’t it?

The next step is to claim that listing. At this point, you should click on your business name and choose the “Claim Your Business” option.

Once you’re set up as the owner of your business, you’ll be able to customize your listing details, upload photos, respond to reviews, and track your brand’s performance on the platform. You can access all of these features for free.

But let’s say you search for your business and don’t find anything. Then, you’re free to create a new listing for your business.

We’ll break down how to get listed on Tripadvisor in the next section.

How do I create a listing for my company on Tripadvisor

There are two ways to get your company listed on Tripadvisor. The first is done manually, and the second is through your booking software. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown for both.

Anyone who owns a business or provides a service can create a Tripadvisor listing.

The very first step is to set up a personal Tripadvisor account. This will make it easier to manage your business account.

Trip advisor listing

Next, you’ll begin adding your company’s name and information here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/CreateListing.html .

Tripadvisor will first ask you to define your business as an accommodation, activity, restaurant, or vacation rental. Then, you’ll be asked to specify your business category (i.e. kayaking tour operator) and your role in the company (i.e. owner).

Description of business tripadvisor

Once Tripadvisor sees that you’re a tour company, it’ll direct you to Viator, the platform used for tour and activity bookings.

There, you’ll need to again define your business. The categories will be supplier, point of interest, or travel agency.

Tour companies fall under the “supplier” category since they provide a service to help travelers experience a place or point of interest.

Basics of listing trip viator

You’ll then need to fill out a more detailed questionnaire about your company.

This is where you’ll share important details like your company name, location, website, and a short description of your services.

Viator photos page

Soon, you’ll be prompted to upload photos of your experiences. The first photo will be your cover photo, or the first visual guests will see on your listing.

Viator has a few recommendations for your photos:

  • They should be high-quality photos taken with a camera or smartphone
  • Horizontal orientation is preferred
  • You should own the rights to the photos or be authorized to use them
  • Candid photos of people having fun are a great idea

Experiences on Viator

As you go through the rest of the questionnaire, you’ll be asked to further catergorize your services. This is so that Tripadvisor and Viator know exactly what you’re offering. This way, the platforms can attach the right keywords to your listing to make you easily discoverable for travelers looking for the kind of tours you offer.

Before you know it, you will have created your first business listing. It should be visible to users within 48 hours.

Welcome message on Viator

If you don’t want to manually list your tour company on Tripadvisor, your booking software might be able to do it for you.

Viator and trip advisor welcome page

Xola, for instance, integrates with all of the most popular OTAs, including Viator. The integration is as easy as locating Viator in the Xola App Store, installing it, and configuring your settings. You’ll then select the listings you want to appear on Viator.

Now, your customers will be able to book tours and activities directly through Viator. Integration with your Xola account ensures that those bookings appear on your calendar. It also ties these bookings into your capacity and equipment settings so that you don’t get overbooked.

Keep in mind that each of your offerings on Viator must align with only one of your Xola listings. Also, the schedule offered in your Viator listing must match the corresponding listing in Xola.

Once everything is set up, your Viator bookings will need to be edited through Viator directly. However, your Xola account will reflect the changes made within Viator’s system, including cancellations, refunds, arrival date or time changes, and guest quantity.

Now that you know how to list your tours and experiences on Tripadvisor, you can begin to encourage your guests to leave you reviews on the platform.

Power Rankings: 124th U.S. Open

Power Rankings

Change Text Size

OK, it’s finally time to identify the best golfer. As if! With enduring respect for the late Sandy Tatum, we already know who it is. He would, too.

As chairman of the competition committee for the U.S. Open, it was Tatum who coined the famous phrase concerning the setup for the U.S. Open at Winged Foot Country Club 50 years ago this week. Hale Irwin survived best at, yikes, 7-over 287, and then added victories in the major in 1979 and 1990. The best golfer was identified and then validated.

The U.S. Open this week is staging its 124th edition. Pinehurst Resort & Country Club’s No. 2 Course hosts for the fourth time. While it’s highly unlikely that the winner will be over par at its conclusion, no doubt that he truly will feel like the best has been identified.

Scroll or swipe past the projected contenders for what’s in store for the field of 156, what’s different at Pinehurst since it last hosted 2014 and more.

As if you needed the resolution that the opening tease points directly at Scottie Scheffler. The five-time PGA TOUR winner in the last three months sits at No. 1 in the FedExCup and the Official World Golf Ranking. His lead of 2,171.417 points over Xander Schauffele in the former would rank third overall, while his margin of 7.6798 points (also) over Schauffele in the latter would slot fourth. In other words, half-a-Scheffler still is a world-beater.

If that isn’t extreme enough, try Pinehurst No. 2 on for size. The stock par 70 can stretch to 7,548 yards, so there’s that. A cursory analysis of how it tested 10 years ago suggests that it’s entirely a second-shot track. After all, the field averaged 70.02 percent in splitting fairways. That’s 9.8 (of 14) per golfer per round, which is absurd execution. But how many will take a back seat to where? Read on.

Pinehurst also checked in as third-most challenging in hitting greens in regulation throughout the 2013-14 season at just 56.51 percent (10.17 average per golfer per round). And off that, things really got tough.

The course was hardest in converting GIR into par breakers (2.1 of the 10.17 GIR), putts per GIR (1.884) and scrambling (a click under 50 percent). It also was third-stingiest in avoiding three-putts no matter when the ball stuck on the perched greens. (Since the last time that Pinehurst hosted, ShotLink has been added to measure every stroke at every U.S. Open, so more granular data will be available this week.)

What that means for the field is to embrace what the course gives. Merely finding the short grass will be considered a statistical push relative to others. Instead, positioning on approach and precision into targets that play smaller than their square footage because of runoffs in almost all directions are paramount. Course management, patience and grit are invaluable intangibles. The 36-hole cut is low 60 and ties.

As of midday Monday, 29 golfers in this week’s field have scar tissue from 2014 when the course averaged 73.076; well, all but Martin Kaymer who prevailed by eight strokes at 9-under 271. He genuinely could be accused of absurd execution. After an opening 65 to lead by three, his margin grew to six at the midpoint. It shrunk to five after the third round but he was not challenged to convert the wire-to-wire title.

Since then, the bentgrass greens have been replaced by Ultradwarf Bermudagrass. That alone is significant but it’s also historic because it’s the first time that the tournament will be played on this strain. Flanking the welcoming fairways is native area teeming with wiregrass, which up close is reminiscent of the hair on a troll pencil topper. Only one of those two things is fun. Bunkers also abound and add to the striking visuals of the property.

The U.S. Amateur was held at Pinehurst No. 2 in 2019. Fifteen participants of that competition qualified this week, 10 of whom advanced to the match-play component, so they have a head start on how the new putting surfaces will test.

As it was five years ago, the annual top-level event for amateurs in the United States is held in August. We’re not there yet but it will feel like it at times this week. Daytime highs are expected to touch 90 degrees every day. It’ll climb higher than that on Friday and Saturday. Despite a risk for it on the weekend, rain would be a surprise at any point and early indications suggest that the wind won’t be much of a nuisance. So, Pinehurst is poised to present its best self. (Wednesday’s Golfbet Insider will include a revisit of the weather.)

In addition to forever being known as the winner of the 2024 U.S. Open, he will be exempt into the next 10 editions of the major and the next five years of the other three. He’ll also be eligible for a PGA TOUR membership exemption through 2029.

Destination: Armenia

Armenia Highlights Your comprehensive travel guide to Armenia - All in one place! Armenia is becoming an increasingly popular tourist attraction, with a small but charming nation boasting a rich history. Armenia, which was the first country to declare Christianity as its state religion, boasts some of Europe’s most stunning views, with the peak of Mount Ararat dominating the country’s skyline. The mountain is Armenian’s national symbol despite its peak lying just over the Turkish border and Ararat is considered holy by locals due to its mention in the Bible-it is where Noah’s Ark landed. Armenia is home to countless beautiful monasteries and they are often found in areas of truly outstanding natural beauty. Armenian’s capital, Yerevan, is one of the most rapidly developing cities in the whole of Europe as the nation continues to embrace tourism. History and Government One of the world's oldest civilizations, Armenia once included Mount Ararat, which biblical tradition identifies as the mountain that Noah's ark rested on after the flood. It was the first country in the world to officially adopt Christianity as its religion (A.D. 301). Throughout most of its long history, however, Armenia has been invaded by a succession of empires. Over the centuries Armenia was conquered by Greeks, Romans, Persians, Byzantines, Mongols, Arabs, Ottoman Turks, and Russians. Under constant threat of domination by foreign forces, Armenians became both cosmopolitan as well as fierce protectors of their culture and tradition. The most horrific genocide took place in April 1915 during World War I, when the Turks ordered the deportation of the Armenian population to the deserts of Syria and Mesopotamia. According to the majority of historians, 1.5 million Armenians were murdered or died of starvation. Turkey denies that genocide took place and claims that a much smaller number died in a civil war. After the Turkish defeat in World War I, the independent Republic of Armenia was established on May 28, 1918, but survived only until Nov. 29, 1920, when it was annexed by the Soviet army. Armenia declared its independence from the collapsing Soviet Union on Sept. 23, 1991. An Armenian Diaspora has existed throughout the nation's history, and Armenian emigration has been particularly heavy since independence from the Soviet Union. An estimated 60% of the total 8 million Armenians worldwide live outside the country, with 1 million each in the United States and Russia. Other significant Armenian communities are located in Georgia, France, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Argentina, and Canada. Geography and Environment Armenia is located in the Southwest Caucasus region, at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. It is a landlocked country bordered by Georgia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east, Iran to the south, and Turkey to the west. Armenia’s land area is 29,800 square kilometers, and the population is 3.3 million. The maximum distance from north to south is 360 kilometers, and from east to west 200 kilometers. About five percent of the country’s territory is covered by lakes, the biggest of which is Lake Sevan. The tallest peak and biblical symbol is the mountain Ararat which lies on the territory of Turkey and dominates the national landscape. Mount Aragats, the highest point within the Republics boundaries (4090 meters at its summit) is accessible to most mountain climbers and naturalists wanting to explore its four peaks. Lake Sevan is by far the largest body of water in Armenia, accounting for 5% of the country's land area. This is a magic lake with which you can communicate, which relaxes and cleanses. It generously grants you a feeling of harmony, esthetics and excitement, thanks to its unique sights. Population The population of Armenia in 2019 is estimated at 2.96 million people. The country’s population ranking is 137th in the world. The country has a population density of 101 people per square kilometer. The ethnic tapestry of Armenia is 98% ethnic Armenians, while the rest are primarily Yazidis, with some Russian ethnicity present. Armenia has a large diaspora, with about 8 million Armenians living throughout the world. The largest communities outside of Armenia are in Russia, Iran, France, the U.S., Canada, Syria, and Lebanon. Culture Armenia is situated in the unique crossroad of Europe and Asia. So, you might find a lot of cultural elements that have found their unique reflection in Armenian culture as well. However, there are some cultural elements that you’ll hardly meet in any other culture. Khachkars are one of them. The name “khachkar” is translated as “cross-stone”. Khachkars are typically Armenian, identifying Christian culture in Armenia. The main topic of khachkars is carved crosses on the rock, though you rarely you may meet khachkars with other images. Armenia is known for its oldest churches. The first church is Etchmiadzin Cathedral which is built in the 4th century. The inseparable part of Armenian culture is Armenian traditional clothing called “taraz”. Armenian dances like Armenian culture comes from ancient times. It’s essential to point, that the distinctive feature of Armenian traditional dances is their group nature. Embracing more than 13 centuries, the architecture and miniature painting have dominated Armenian artistic production, showing consistent development. Remarkable Armenian painters that greatly introduced such painting genres as still life, landscape and historical composition in the second half of the 19th century are Hovhannes Ayvazovski; the most interesting phenomenon that gained international fame at the age of 25, Gevorg Bashinjaghyan; founder of national realistic landscape painting and Vardges Surenyants who is a specialist of Armenian theory of arts. Food and Drink Armenia is a country of the hot summer sun, mountain rivers and rocky soils. Maybe this is the exact secret combination of factors that makes everything growing in this land so delicious and full of life. The country truly boasts not only rich culture and hospitable people but also authentic cuisine with an abundant choice of delicacies for every taste, such as Dolma, Khashlama, Khorovats (barbeque), Kebab, Khash, Harissa and Ghapama. Festivals Armenia is full of amazing, colorful, and interesting festivals that take place every year in the high season so that both tourists and locals can enjoy them. Festivals in Armenia vary a lot, from film festival to cultural festivals, from wine festival to sheep shearing festival. If you would like to participate in cuisine festivals, you shouldn’t miss Dolma Festival, Barbecue Festival, Festival of Honey and Berry and, of course, Wine Festival. Dolma has Armenian origin and this dish always decorates Armenian tables. Armenian Wine Festival is usually held from September to October, during which you can taste different kinds of wine. Best Time to Visit The best time for enjoying Armenian beauty is early autumn. In September, the weather in the country is quite comfortable and warm, there are still no strong winds. Many people say that Nature in Armenia is most beautiful particularly in this period when all the green landscape is gradually replaced by golden ones. Also, you can visit Armenia in spring; from the end of March up until the middle of May. During this period, the air temperature is also quite comfortable for walking. But unfortunately, the weather is too unsettled and the bright sun can be replaced by a cold downpour in a matter of minutes. Tourists most often visit Yerevan in summer. At this time, a simply unimaginable number of local colorful shops open here where you can buy national products including the famous cognac “Ararat”. From the beginning of June, various hikes to the mountains are organized for fans of active recreation. The beach season on Lake Sevan begins from the end of June and lasts until mid-September. July is the hottest month in the country. Therefore, if you do not like exhausting heat, then it is best to visit the country at the end of August or in June. Travel Tips The national currency of Armenia is dram. Both banknotes and coins are called so. If you run out of local currency, you can pay in dollars in some stores. The most popular mean of public transport is a shuttle bus. There are lots of them connecting different areas. You can also use the subway in Yerevan. Tap water in Armenia can be safely consumed without additional treatment. Free drinking water is available to travelers in special fountains on the streets.

2024 U.S. Open PGA DFS: Optimal FanDuel, DraftKings daily Fantasy golf picks, lineups, strategy, advice

R ory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth have been popular PGA DFS picks for years, but daily Fantasy golf players will have to decide if they can be trusted when they set their PGA DFS strategy for the 2024 U.S. Open, which tees off from Pinehurst No. 2 on Thursday, June 13. McIlroy, among the highest-priced players on both DraftKings and FanDuel, has won 26 PGA Tour events in his career, including four major championships. However, McIlroy enters this week's event ranked 66th in greens in regulation percentage (66.08%). Spieth, whose 2024 U.S. Open DFS price is $7,900 on DraftKings and $9,800 on FanDuel, won the U.S. Open in 2015 but has struggled mightily in 2024, finishing T-37 or worse in six of his last seven starts on tour.

Should your PGA DFS strategy include rostering McIlroy or Spieth, or is it time to fade them in favor of players with a significantly lower price tag? Before you lock in your PGA DFS picks for the 2024 U.S. Open on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, you'll want to see the latest daily Fantasy golf picks, advice and player pool from SportsLine's Mike McClure .

McClure is a DFS pro with over $2 million in career winnings, and he's been red-hot on his PGA Tour picks this season. McClure is also a predictive data engineer at SportsLine who uses a powerful prediction model that simulates every tournament 10,000 times, taking factors like statistical trends, past results, and current form into account. This allows him to find the best PGA DFS values and create optimal lineups that he shares only over at SportsLine. They're a must-see for any PGA DFS player.

Last week at the Memorial Tournament, McClure identified Collin Morikawa as one of his top PGA DFS picks. The result: Morikawa secured a runner-up finish after shooting 7-under par. Anybody who included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable weekend.

In addition, McClure's model is up nearly $9,000 on its best bets since June 2020, nailing tournament after tournament. This same model has also nailed a whopping 12 majors entering the weekend, including three straight Masters and 2024 PGA Championship. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now, McClure has set his sights on the 2024 U.S. Open and revealed his optimal PGA DFS advice, strategy, and player pool. Head to SportsLine now to see his top golf DFS picks for the U.S. Open 2024 .

Top 2024 U.S. Open PGA DFS picks

One of McClure's top PGA DFS picks for the 2024 U.S. Open is Bryson DeChambeau at $10,100 on DraftKings and $11,800 on FanDuel. DeChambeau won his only major championship at the 2020 U.S. Open, and he's been in contention until the end at both the Masters and PGA Championship this year. His sixth-place finish at Augusta was a career-best, as was his second-place showing at the PGA Championship.

Over his last seven starts at majors, DeChambeau has posted four top-10 finishes. He also has two victories in the last calendar year, and his length will give him a distinct advantage over the rest of the field at Pinehurst No. 2. Those impressive results make DeChambeau a complete steal at this price point, so confidently lock him in your PGA DFS lineups for the 2024 U.S. Open.

McClure's optimal PGA DFS strategy also includes rostering Justin Thomas at $8,900 on DraftKings and $10,100 on FanDuel. In order to score well at Pinehurst No. 2, players will need to be accurate with their irons. Thomas enters the U.S. Open 2024 ranked seventh in strokes gained: approach to green (0.697).

He's also been effective off the tee, ranking 22nd in driving distance (308.1) and 38th in total driving (132). His ability to put himself in advantageous positions has the 31-year-old ranked seventh in birdie average (4.43) and 17th in scoring average (69.57), which will make him a valuable PGA DFS asset this week.  See who else to back right here .

How to set 2024 U.S. Open DFS lineups

McClure is also targeting an undervalued player who's primed to play well, giving you a huge return on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel. Picks like these could be the difference between winning your PGA DFS contests or going home with nothing. You can only see who it is here .

So what are the top PGA DFS picks for the U.S. Open 2024, and which undervalued golfer is a must-roster? Visit SportsLine now to see the complete 2024 U.S. Open DFS player pool for FanDuel and DraftKings, all from the expert who's made over $2 million in daily Fantasy sports , and find out.

Jul 12, 2020; Dublin, Ohio, USA; Collin Morikawa plays his shot from the first tee during the final round of the Workday Charity Open golf tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

2024 U.S. Open One and Done picks, purse, sleepers, field, strategy: Top PGA Tour predictions, power rankings, expert golf betting advice from DFS pro

Hero Image

The third major golf tournament of the year has arrived, with the 2024 U.S. Open set to begin on Thursday at Pinehurst No. 2. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the 11-4 favorite in the 2024 U.S. Open odds, followed by Rory McIlroy (10-1), Xander Schauffele (10-1) and Bryson DeChambeau (10-1). Other 2024 U.S. Open contenders include Viktor Hovland (12-1), Ludvig Aberg (14-1) and Collin Morikawa (14-1). Last year's champion, Wyndham Clark, is 33-1. The total 2024 U.S. Open purse is $20 million, with the winner's share payout listed as $3.9 million. The winner will also earn 750 FedEx Cup points.

Before locking in your 2024 U.S. Open one and done picks,  you need to see what SportsLine DFS pro and PGA expert Mike McClure has to say.

The One and Done format is growing in popularity. It has several noticeable similarities to NFL Survivor pools, with the main difference being entries are not eliminated with a bad week. Players pick one golfer per week and earn points based on their selected golfer's prize money for that tournament. Golfers can only be used once per season, and the point format makes nailing majors and big money tournaments critical.

McClure is a DFS legend with over $2 million in career winnings,  and he's been RED-HOT on his PGA picks dating back to the PGA Tour restart in June of 2020. McClure uses his proprietary simulation model to analyze the field and crush his golf picks.

McClure has been on fire with his One and Done picks in 2024. At The American Express he backed Justin Thomas, who finished in third place and took home $635,600. At the Genesis Invitational, McClure tabbed Patrick Cantlay, who finished in fourth place at the signature event, as his top OAD pick. At the Cognizant Classic, McClure's top one and done pick, Min Woo Lee, finished in a tie for second place. Finally, at the Arnold Palmer Invitation, another signature event, McClure recommended using Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris. The Result: Scheffler won the event by five strokes, and Zalatoris finished in fourth place.

His hot steak continued at the Players Championship, where McClure again recommended using Scheffler (if was still available) and Xander Schauffele. Both players were in contention until the end, with Scheffler coming out with the win and Schauffele finishing in second place! Then, at the Valspar Championship, McClure listed Cameron Young, who finished in second place, as his top OAD pick.

More recently, at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, McClure recommended using 50-1 longshot Alex Noren in One and Done pools . Noren would go on to be in contention until the end, before finishing in third place, two strokes off the lead! And at the PGA Championship, McClure targeted Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa, who finished in third and fourth places, respectively . He targeted Morikawa again at the Memorial Tournament, where Morikawa finished second.

Now, McClure has his sights on the 2024 U.S. Open and just revealed his optimal One and Done picks. They are a must-see for any player looking for an edge in their One and Done pool.

We can tell you that one of McClure's  favorite One and Done picks for the 2024 U.S. Open is Rory McIlroy.  McIlroy has 10 top-25 finishes in 2024, including a win at the Wells Fargo Championship. He has four career major championships, and is currently sitting at No. 3 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

McClure is also targeting another golfer for his 2024 U.S. Open one and done picks who has a long track record of success against elite competition!  Picks like these could be the difference between winning your One and Done pool or going home with nothing. You ABSOLUTELY need to see who it is before locking in your pick!

How to get listed and start collecting reviews on Tripadvisor

tour adviser

In order for a property to be listed on Tripadvisor in the Attractions section, it must be a permanent place of interest (not seasonal or short-term) with an official name, address and phone number. The attraction’s hours or regular departure times must be available on a website or brochure, along with scheduled departure locations (if they vary). Tour companies may qualify as an attraction if they operate their own tours, are licensed/recognized by the local city or tourism officials, and have a website.

For more information, read our guidelines for attractions here.

Add a property description

A description helps travelers learn more about your business. It must be written in your local language and cannot include any HTML coding, phone numbers, web/email addresses or text in ALL CAPS. It’s best to keep this description short, so guests can scan the key highlights you’ve provided and make a decision.

Choose a photo

Providing a photo of your business helps you make a strong first impression with travelers. We’ll display this on your listing page. The photo needs to be a .jpg or .gif (common photo formats). We can’t accept images with borders, logos or files that are larger than 100kb.

Submit the listing

Once you’ve confirmed that all of the information you’ve added is correct, check the box at the bottom of the form to verify that you are a representative of the business, the information you’ve submitted is valid and that you have the rights to post the image you’ve provided. Then click the ‘Submit’ button to complete the process.

Once you request your listing, Tripadvisor editors will verify your details and confirm that your property meets the guidelines for the business type you’ve selected. This typically takes about 5 business days.

2024 U.S. Open one and done picks, strategy, field, sleepers: Golf predictions, expert PGA betting advice

Mike mcclure locked in his expert one and done golf picks, projected leaderboard, and top sleepers for the us open 2024 at pinehurst no. 2.

rory-mcilroy-usatsi-cbs.jpg

Scottie Scheffler will try to continue his run of dominance when the 2024 U.S. Open gets underway on Thursday. The U.S. Open will be played at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina for the fourth time in the history of the prestigious event. Scheffler, who has five wins in 13 starts this year, is the 11-4 favorite in the latest 2024 U.S. Open odds. Scheffler will have to fend off an elite 2024 US Open field that includes the likes of Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, and Viktor Hovland to win his third career major championship.

The players will be competing for a total 2024 U.S. Open purse of $20 million, with the winner taking home $3.9 million. Who should you back when making your 2024 U.S. Open one and done picks this week at Pinehurst? Before locking in your 2024 U.S. Open one and done picks,  you need to see what SportsLine DFS pro and PGA expert Mike McClure has to say .

The One and Done format is growing in popularity. It has several noticeable similarities to NFL Survivor pools, with the main difference being entries are not eliminated with a bad week. Players pick one golfer per week and earn points based on their selected golfer's prize money for that tournament. Golfers can only be used once per season, and the point format makes nailing majors, signature events, and big money tournaments critical.

Both players were in contention until the end, with Scheffler coming out with the win and Schauffele finishing in second place. Then, at the Valspar Championship, McClure listed Cameron Young, who finished in second place, as his top OAD pick.

More recently, at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, McClure recommended using 50-1 longshot Alex Noren in One and Done pools. Noren would go on to be in contention until the end, before finishing in third place, two strokes off the lead. And at the PGA Championship, McClure targeted Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa, who finished in third and fourth places, respectively. He targeted Morikawa again at the Memorial Tournament, where Morikawa finished second.

Now, McClure has his sights on the 2024 U.S. Open and just revealed his optimal One and Done picks. They are a must-see for any player looking for an edge in their One and Done pool. You can only see McClure's U.S. Open 2024 one and done picks at SportsLine .

Top 2024 U.S. Open One and Done picks

One of McClure's top one and done picks this week at Pinehurst is Rory McIlroy. The world No. 3 is hard to beat when he's at the top of his game, and he has two wins in his last five tournaments. McIlroy is one of the best players in the world off the tee, which could bode well for the 35-year-old this week with Pinehurst No. 2 measuring in at 7,548 yards.

McIlroy enters the week ranked highly in several key metrics that would suggest he should be in contention this week. He is currently ranked third on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained (1.662), fourth in strokes gained tee-to-green (1.360), and fifth in strokes gained off-the-tee (0.799). McClure believes the 26-time PGA Tour winner will make a serious run at his fifth career major championship this week.  You can see who else to back at SportsLine .

How to make U.S. Open 2024 One and Done picks

McClure is also targeting another golfer for his 2024 U.S. Open one and done picks who has a long track record of success against elite competition. This multiple time PGA Tour winner has the ability to win any tournament he enters, and is one of the most talented golfers in this field. You can find out who it is, and check out all of McClure's U.S. Open one and done picks at SportsLine .

PR Expert Offers Jennifer Lopez Advice To Rebuild Her Reputation Amid Tour Cancelation And Marriage Troubles

PR expert believes Jennifer Lopez's complicated personal life is harming her career.

  • PR expert believes J. Lo's personal problems have damaged her career.
  • He publicly advises Jennifer Lopez to embrace authenticity and act more humble amid viral videos of her being rude to fans.
  • Jennifer Lopez cancels tour amid rumors of divorce with Ben Affleck and poor album sales.

At least from the fans' perspective, Jennifer Lopez is going through a tough time. Rumors about an impending divorce with Ben Affleck , only fueled by their recent actions, have been going around for a couple of months now, and while J. Lo has done her best not to acknowledge them and has outright shut down questions about it , they haven't slowed down.

In addition to that, she's decided to cancel her tour, which fans believe was due to slow sales. A PR expert has weighed in on the matter, publicly giving the singer advice, and speculating that her complicated personal life is actively harming her career.

PR Guru Offered Jennifer Lopez Advice

Jennifer Lopez

Amid marriage woes and poor ticket sales, Jennifer Lopez's image has taken a hit, according to PR expert Edward Hopkins . Her personal problems reflected directly on her career, this expert claims, and he publicly offered his advice so the singer could do some damage control.

"High-profile relationships come with intense media scrutiny, and rumors of a potential divorce can overshadow professional achievements ," he explained. "In today’s digital age, where every action can be captured and shared globally, maintaining a positive image is more challenging, but very crucial."

The expert claimed that getting defensive about her personal life, while justified, could seriously damage J. Lo's reputation, as everything she did or said would quickly get shared everywhere. "Videos on TikTok depicting her in an unflattering light — appearing rude to fans and strangers — have gone viral," he said as an example.

Edward Hopkins also had some advice regarding her career. The singer recently canceled her upcoming tour , and not long before that, she'd had to cancel several dates due to poor sales. Her new album, This Is Me... Now , was also not as well-received as the singer hoped.

"Her career has been marked by resilience and reinvention," the expert said. "To stage a comeback, she could focus on embracing a more authentic and humble public persona, which can help repair her image."

His personal advice? " Acknowledging mistakes and showing genuine appreciation for her fans might rekindle the public’s affection ."

Jennifer Lopez's Canceled Tour

Jennifer Lopez is dealing with enough when it comes to her personal life, so it makes sense for her to want to put her career obligations on hold. The singer recently announced she was canceling her This Is Me... Now tour, citing unspecified personal reasons.

"Representatives for Live Nation announced today that the Jennifer Lopez US Summer 2024 Tour THIS IS ME... LIVE is canceled, citing... ' Jennifer is taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends ,'" J. Lo shared in her newsletter .

Jennifer Lopez then provided a more personal message to her fans. " I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down . Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time..."

Fans are convinced that it was the poor sales, added to her alleged marriage problems, that caused her to cancel the tour. Whether PR expert Edward Hopkins' theory that her personal life directly affected her professional success is true remains to be seen.
