The Academy for Churchill College Enterprise and Leadership Programme (ACCEL)

Posted on: 12 March 2024 Last edited: 12 March 2024

IMG_2113

The Møller Institute recently had the pleasure of working with Churchill College to deliver The Academy for Churchill College Enterprise and Leadership (ACCEL), an exciting new leadership development opportunity for engineering and physical sciences undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The scheme is being run in partnership with Churchill College, specifically devised to help address the critical UK technical and engineering skills gap. The programme enables students to supplement their outstanding technical knowledge from their degree courses with the opportunity to practice and build the skills, confidence and aptitude to become leaders of tomorrow and make a positive impact in their careers.

Abigail Nicol, Education and Leadership Development Lead at the Møller Institute, said  ‘This type of programme provides a space for students to learn about professional, leadership skills in a practical, hands-on way before entering the workplace. It can be seen as a bridge between academia and industry. There are not many opportunities for young people to learn and experience the skills and circumstances often found in organisations and these workshops have been designed to support students with this in a fun and interactive way.’

churchill college virtual tour

Ten undergraduate and six postgraduate students were selected to take part in the first cohort of ACCEL which kicked off in November 2023. Participants have been taking part in a series of six workshops, each covering a different aspect of leadership development. The skills and understanding they have been developing range from confidence, self-awareness and decision making, to giving and receiving feedback, networking and relationships, and employability.

As Richard Hill – Director of Education and Leadership Development at the Møller Institute reflects, “Creating the opportunities for students to step beyond their academic horizons and test themselves against behaviours, perspectives and mindsets they will need in the workplace is a critical part of preparing them for the world beyond Churchill College and Cambridge. Their technical ability, honed through study in Cambridge is the launchpad for their careers – but the platform for success in their futures will be the ways in which they work with and alongside those around them. A programme like ACCEL creates the opportunity for them to try out new ways of thinking and acting so they can start to consider where they are heading next.”

Over the summer, participants will work on extended projects to put their new skills to use and explore something they are interested in outside of their course academic requirements. These projects can take a range of approaches and may include internships, community, design and research projects, with opportunities for project funding opportunities available to apply for through ACCEL.   There will be a celebration event later in the year to showcase work carried out over the summer alongside opportunities for ongoing engagement with the ACCEL community the following academic year.

Find out more about the ACCEL programme  here .

The Art of Winston Churchill: An Exhibition at Hillsdale College

  • By THE CHURCHILL PROJECT
  • | January 24, 2017
  • Category: Churchill's Art Resources

An Avenue at Frinton-On-Sea, Essex; with Miss Diana Churchill

Winston Churchill began his hobby of painting at 40 years old. For Churchill, the art of painting, like the art of statesmanship, is practiced successfully only when the intricate details involved aim toward a fixed purpose. Both arts, if done well, are guided by and reflect timeless principles.

Churchill produced nearly 600 paintings, nine of which will be on display at Hillsdale College, along with memorabilia from his life and times. This traveling exhibition is organized by the National Churchill Museum at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri.

Click here to take a virtual tour!

The exhibition will be on display in the Daughtrey Gallery at the Sage Center for the Arts on the campus of Hillsdale College. An opening reception will take place at 2:00 p.m. on January 30. The gallery will be open during the following hours:

Monday-Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday: 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

For more information or to arrange a visit, please call (517) 437-7341 or e-mail [email protected] .

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .
