New virtual tour to increase campus access for incoming UR students

The University of Richmond is now offering a narrated virtual campus tour through the company YouVisit. This new initiative is in place to offer both domestic and international prospective students a different way to tour the campus.

“Visiting a college campus is an important step in the college search process,” said Rebecca Buffington, senior associate director of admission. “We welcome students to the University of Richmond from all over the country and the globe, and we know it’s not always possible for families to visit campus in person. This new virtual tour will allow prospective students to visit our campus from wherever they are until they can physically come to experience our beautiful campus.”

The interactive tour allows users to fully engage with campus. While navigating the tour, visitors can hover over a particular building or tour stop to see additional information and photos. The tour mimics UR’s physical tour, highlighting key academic buildings, programs, and hubs of student activity. The virtual tour also enables students to customize and further explore the campus based on their interests.

VCU In-Person Campus Tours and Virtual Information Sessions

We are excited to offer multiple options to visit and learn more about our dynamic university.

In-person campus tours are held Monday through Saturday at various times for prospective students and their families; select from the dates below to proceed with registering. Tours are primarily outdoors, are 100% walking, and will last about an hour in total. V irtual information sessions will be held Monday through Saturday for prospective students and their families. These information sessions will be formal presentations providing overviews of the university and the steps of the application process for prospective and admitted students. 

Also, take our virtual tour of campus and our residence halls. To stay informed about VCU’s response to COVID-19 (coronavirus) and return to campus visit  together.vcu.edu .  

Additional information for in-person tours:

• Tours will be held rain or shine -- please come prepared with umbrellas, jackets, or more in case of inclement weather.
• Summer Tour Weather Advisory: The Richmond area often experiences periods of high temperatures throughout the summer months. Campus tours are primarily outdoors, are 100% walking, and will last about an hour in total. It is encouraged to review the  local forecast  before arriving on campus. Please come prepared with comfortable shoes, a bottle of water, and anything else you may need to be comfortable on your tour.
• Should VCU close due to inclement weather, tours will be canceled, and registrants will be notified via email about rescheduling options. You can also visit the VCU Alert website for the university's current operating status.
• Masking is voluntary indoors and outdoors on campus, with the exception of  clinical settings and health system facilities.  VCU’s Public Health Response Team continues to strongly encourage masking for individuals at risk for severe COVID-19 infection. Community members who wish to wear masks are also encouraged to do so — we must all continue to treat one another with kindness and respect.

Institute for Actual Innocence Clinic Client Receives Presidential Commutation

The Institute for Actual Innocence Clinic at Richmond Law is pleased to announce that President Joe Biden has commuted the federal sentence of client Leshay Rhoton. Rhoton is one of only 16 individuals who received presidential clemency actions for non-violent drug offenses announced by the White House on April 24.

"We hold Leshay very dear in our hearts," said Mary Kelly Tate, director of the clinic and professor of law. "She is a young woman with tremendous strength and potential."

Clinic students Liddy Gallagher, Megan Haugh, Sarah Larson, Bailey Ellicott, and Claudia Leonor worked under the direction of Tate to represent Rhoton, who was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment for possession of cocaine. Her sentence was commuted to 12.5 years. Law Clinic Administrative Coordinator Anne Wroniewicz also played a significant role in managing this case.
