S Club confirm Hannah Spearritt has quit reunion tour after Paul Cattermole’s death

Hannah Spearritt will not be joining S Club 7 on their reunion tour.

The pop group confirmed their shows will be going ahead following the death of member Paul Cattermole last month.

However, Spearritt won’t be joining them.

“You’ve probably noticed that there’s only five of us here today, and although Hannah will always be part of S Club 7 she won’t be joining us on this tour,” Jon Lee said in a video shared on Sunday 15 May.

“We wish her all the best for the future. However, the five of us are really excited and geared up.”

Hannah Spearritt is said to be “devastated” after allegedly being forced out of the upcoming S Club 7 reunion tour.

The Norfolk-born singer joined her fellow bandmates back in February when they first announced plans to reform to mark their 25th anniversary.

In April however, member Paul Cattermole, whom Spearritt previously dated, died suddenly from heart complications aged 46.

Shortly after, the group announced that they were rebranding to S Club and continuing with the tour minus Spearitt which a source has claimed was news to her.

“Hannah is devastated,” the insider told The Sun . “She was pushed out and doesn’t understand why. The rest of S Club has been told not to contact her.”

S Club 7 25th anniversary tour

According to them, the first she knew she was out was when her bandmates posted a video to social media telling the rest of the world which she found “hurtful”.

It’s reported that unlike the others who were quick to sign on the dotted line, she had some concerns regarding contracts and was dragging her feet.

“The rest of the band signed their contracts to go on tour in the blink of an eye and said Yes to everything,” they dished.

Adding: “For various reasons, Hannah took her time and pushed back on a few details. Suddenly, without her knowledge, S Club’s comeback was launched without her.”

While it is believed that she has since signed a contract, it is unknown at this stage whether the mum-of-two will rejoin the tour due to feeling “betrayed”.

She recently announced plans to release a tell-all book which is due for release in October when S Club’s tour is due to kick off.

The group meanwhile released their first new music in 20 years as a tribute to Cattermole .

The Standard has contacted a representative for S Club for comment.

S Club 7 have said that their 25th anniversary tour will go ahead following the death of Paul Cattermole.

S Club 7 have announced that they will go ahead with their tour following the death of bandmate Paul Cattermole .

The band, best known for their hits Reach , Don't Stop Movin' and Never Had A Dream Come True , confirmed the news in an emotional video shared on their Instagram page.

Rachel Stevens, Tina Barrett, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh and Jo O'Meara did share, however, that Hannah Spearritt would not be joining the 25th anniversary tour.

This comes after the death of their beloved bandmate, Paul, who Hannah had a relationship with during their time in the band.

S Club 7 announced their 25th anniversary tour earlier this year, only a month before Paul Cattermole's death

In the video, Jon Lee explained that Hannah still remained a member of the band – renamed S Club – despite not joining them on the 19-date tour.

He explained: "She won't be joining us on this tour but we wish her all the best for the future. However, the five of us are really excited and geared up to crack on."

Hannah Spearritt and Paul Cattermole previously had a relationship

Jon went on to explain that the tour would be a "tribute" to Paul, and that it is being called the Good Times Tour – the title of one of their songs which Paul was a lead vocalist on.

Rachel Stevens added: "He's always going to be with us. He was such a big part of this tour, so involved in everything that we are planning.

"And we are just going to keep his memory alive and share it with all of you and its going to make it even more special."

S Club 7 found fame in the 90s and early 00s with hits like Reach, Never Had A Dream Come True and Don't Stop Movin'

Paul died on 6th April this year at his home in Dorset, a month after the S Club tour was announced.

S Club 7 has announced that bandmate Hannah Spearritt has quit their reunion tour following Paul Cattermole’s tragic death in April. The band, who announced in February that they were touring in October to celebrate their 25th anniversary, shared an emotional video on social media telling fans that Hannah will no longer be taking part.

Bradley McIntosh, Jo O'Meara, Jon Lee, Rachel Stevens and Tina Barrett gave an update on Instagram. They spoke together as a group for the first time since their devastating loss.

“In all honesty, we’ve been in a bit of shock,” they explained. Jo and Tina wiped away tears as they paid tribute to Paul, who they said would 'light up a room.'

And Jon said: “You’ve probably noticed that there’s only five of us here today, and although Hannah will always be part of S Club 7, she won’t be joining us on this tour. We wish her all the best for the future.”

The band explained that they were renaming the S Club 7 Reunited Tour the Good Times Tour in tribute to Paul "because that was his song." Tina added: "It feels right." Paul, 46, was found dead at his home in Dorset on April 6.

The number seven had also been removed from the band’s social media and website on Sunday. to read S Club. There has been an outpouring of shock and grief since it was announced that he had died unexpectedly. Paul, who shot to fame as part of the seven-piece band back in 1998, was preparing for a return to the stage with the Bring It All Back, Reach and S Club Party hitmakers.

Confirming the tragic news, his family and bandmates said in a statement: "It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son and brother Paul Cattermole. Paul was found yesterday, 6th April 2023 at his home in Dorset and was pronounced dead later that afternoon."

Following the announcement there was an outpouring of support. Ohitsjo said: "Sending love xx shame Hannah won’t be joining now. Looking forward to seeing you in October."

hannah s club 7 not doing tour

thepensmith said: "Sending you all so much love. I don't think any of us can even begin to imagine how hard this last month or so has been for you all, losing your bro and bandmate.

"We're all right behind you, such a fitting way to remember Paul with the tour going forward. Please be kind to yourselves as well guys, and remember that some days it'll be harder than others but you've got our support."

NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

S Club fans left feeling ‘weird’ as band ‘snub’ Hannah Spearritt on reunion tour

author image

Hannah Spearritt, S Club

S Club appeared to ‘snub’ former bandmate Hannah Spearritt as they took to the stage with their long-awaited comeback tour.

The 42-year-old chose not to rejoin the pop group – who have reunited in celebration of their 25th anniversary – following the death of bandmate and her ex-boyfriend Paul Cattermole in April, aged 46.

Instead, Rachel Stevens, 45, Jon Lee, 41, Bradley McIntosh, 42, Jo O’Meara, 44, and 47-year-old Tina Barrett have continued as S Club (formerly S Club 7) and took to the stage with their first concert in Manchester this week.

However, sources have claimed that Hannah was not mentioned at all during the gig.

‘They didn’t mention her once during the whole gig – even during the tribute to Paul,’ one concertgoer told The Sun .

‘It was really weird as she was obviously a big part of the band and in it for a long time – but it was like she didn’t exist,’ they added.

S Club

S Club do include a moment to remember Cattermole, though, playing a video montage of him on the big screens in his honour.

During the band’s first show, it’s said the thousands-strong crowd fell silent as they became overwhelmed with emotion watching the nostalgic footage.

Running back onto the stage after the tribute, Jon shouted: ‘Manchester, let me hear you raise the roof one last time for Paul!’

As the group walked down the stairs, Bradley, who was on the verge of tears, added: ‘Wow, that’s our brother right there, man.

‘Gone but you will never be forgotten. We miss you every single day.’

The other S Clubbers also paid tribute to their late friend, with Tina saying to the audience: ‘Tonight is a celebration, so let’s Bring It All Back for Paul!’

Hannah Spearritt, Paul Cattermole

Ahead of their performance of their latest single, These Are The Days, the five-piece dedicated it to Cattermole.

Tina introduced the tune by saying: ‘For 20 years now, people have been asking me, “When are you guys going to release new music?” So we thought this year, let’s do it.’

Bradley added: ‘And we did. We dedicated this song to Paul and all of the memories we shared.’

Cattermole was found dead earlier this year after he died of cardiac issues, just two months after sharing his excitement to get back on the road with his bandmates.

Hannah – who dated him in 2001 – has since said she ‘blamed’ herself for what happened, following a ‘deeply disturbing’ email she received from the late singer in 2021.

Hannah Spearritt

She told  The Sun on Sunday  newspaper, ahead of the release of her autobiography: ‘I will never, ever reveal the contents of that email.

‘It’s not in my book and I will take it to the grave. I didn’t tell anybody about it at the time because it was pretty clear that he wasn’t very well.

‘The things he said were of great concern. It was a lot. I started blaming myself. I had all these things going through my head — it was all blame, blame, blame. It was horrible.’

Of her reasons for not going back to the band after the tragedy, the Reach hitmaker explained that ‘everything changed’.

‘In the end, I had to make a decision that was right for me and my family,’ she said.

Hannah admitted it ‘didn’t feel right’ to get back together with the group after such a loss, which was affecting her own mental and physical health simultaneously.

The S Club Party vocalists have remained strong as a five-piece unit, however, despite an obstacle throwing their reunion tour off course after just one gig.

Just hours before performing in Liverpool, S Club released a statement to announce they would be rescheduling the show due to an ‘unforseen issue’ beyond their control.

The show has now been postponed to Monday, October 30.

Reps for S Club have been contacted for comment.

Spearritt, 42, was one of the original members of S Club 7 when the group was formed in 1998, along with Tina Barrett, Paul Cattermole, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O'Meara and Rachel Stevens.

Earlier this year, the band surprised fans by announcing a reunion tour to celebrate their 25th anniversary, with all seven original members set to return.

But just two months later, Cattermole sadly passed away at just 46 years old.

While the band continued with plans for the reunion tour, Spearritt was nowhere to be seen when the band announced further information to fans.

Sources familiar with the inner workings of the tour have claimed Spearritt was unaware that she was being 'left out' of the tour , and that she only found out when the announcement was shared online.

Reports suggested Hannah Spearritt had been 'left out' of the reunion tour.

“Hannah is devastated," the source told The Sun. “She was pushed out, and doesn’t understand why. The rest of S Club has been told not to contact her.”

This came despite the fact in an interview on BBC’s The One Show last week, the band said the ‘door was always open’ for Spearritt to make a return .

Now, the five remaining members of S Club 7 have broken their silence on claims Spearritt was left out in an interview on ITV's This Morning on Monday (31 July).

During the interview, presenter Craig Doyle said: "We gotta talk about Hannah because she's obviously not here today and we read that, you know, you're hoping that she might re-join at some stage. In the papers today, slightly different story being told but I'll just tell you what's been said in the papers.

S Club 7 broke their silence on This Morning.

"It said that an 'anonymous source claimed that Hannah Spearritt is no longer on speaking terms with the band, claims that Hannah was not aware she wouldn't be included in the tour until the group posted a video on Instagram with tour details'. So that's what's been written in the newspapers today and I guess to give you the chance to respond to that."

Jon Lee replied: "I mean, for us, and for everyone listening actually, whenever an article starts with 'a source said' you can kind of take it with a pinch of salt."

The band agreed that the door is always open for Spearritt to return, labelling the reports as 'nonsense'.

Meanwhile, O'Meara added: "We're doing a lot of stuff in 2024 so you never know what's gonna happen in the future but I think just, right now, we're just really excited and really looking forward and concentrating on the tour and making it a really special show."

S Club have responded to the “nonsense” claims that Hannah Spearritt was shut out from the upcoming reunion tour.

Earlier this year, the pop group revealed they would be reforming and releasing new music for the first time in 20 years . All seven original members – consisting of Tina Barrett, Paul Cattermole, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O’Meara, Spearritt and Rachel Stevens – were set to embark on a  25th anniversary UK and Ireland arena tour  in October.

However, following the death of Cattermole in April, it was announced that Spearitt would not be a part of the newly renamed ‘Good Times Tour ’.

“You’ve probably noticed that there’s only five of us here today, and although Hannah will always be part of S Club 7 she won’t be joining us on this tour,” Lee said in an Instagram video .

The remaining five members – now named S Club – are set to continue with the the sold-out tour, with Lee sharing that Spearritt was “always welcome” to rejoin them.

According to The Sun , an anonymous source shared that Spearritt told her close friends that she was “blindsided” by the video announcement that was posted to the S Club social media accounts.

In an interview on Monday (July 31) with ITV’s daytime show This Morning , S Club addressed the reports from the anonymous source.

“Whenever an article starts with ‘a source said’, you can kind of take it with a pinch of salt,” Lee said. “Who was the source?” Barrett asked, while Lee added: “The one thing they did get right is that we are doing a 15-date tour across the country.”

After being asked by the show’s host Jodie Gibson whether the door was still open Spearritt, Lee responded: “We’ve said that many times,” while the rest of the group nodded in agreement.

“The article’s nonsense,” Barrett said, with O’Meara adding, “We’re doing a lot of stuff in 2024, so you never know what’s going to happen in the future.”

In other news, the group recently released their first single in 20 years, ‘These Are The Days’ .

“We hope you love the track as much as we do, and get to reminisce with us on all your favourite moments with friends and loved ones,” S Club shared on Instagram . “This was a true labour of love and the experience of creating it together was so special. This one’s for you, Paul.”

hannah s club 7 not doing tour

After the tragic death of her bandmate Paul Cattermole in April, Hannah Spearritt made the decision to step away from the S Club 7 25-year reunion tour.

The Daily Mail has reported that the singer-turned-actress has drafted legal support after her sudden announcement to quit the tour.

The Primeval star is believed to have signed a contract with music mogul Simon Fuller's talent company but relations between the parties have become 'tricky'.

Her departure from the tour has remained shrouded in secrecy and a source has shone a spotlight on the tense situation saying: 'It is a shame that it has got to the point where Hannah has had to get lawyers.'

S Club stars Rachel Stevens, Tina Barrett, Jon Lee, Jo O'Meara, and Bradley McIntosh previously shared a clip confirming the news that Hannah would not be touring and even shared that they will be changing the tour's name to acknowledge the changes.

In the video, the stars gathered around to share the update with Jon saying: 'Sorry it's been a while since you've heard from us but in all honesty, we've been in a bit of shock.'

He continued by explaining: 'It's taken a while for us to find the right words to describe how we feel about losing our brother Paul.'

Rachel began speaking about how the group have been handling the news as they gathered together to 'remember Paul and all the memories we had together'.

While the bandmates acknowledged that they were in 'disbelief' as they try and process what happened to their 'brother' they also took the time to address the fact that Hannah was absent from the clip.

'You've probably already noticed there's only five of us here today and although Hannah will always be a part of S Club 7, she won't be joining us on this tour,' Jon explained to S Club fans around the world.

Respectful of Hannah's decision, the group shared that they wanted to continue with the tour as a 'tribute' to their late bandmate Paul.

S Club 7's  Hannah Spearritt has stepped down from the pop group's upcoming reunion tour following the death of member Paul Cattermole .

Paul was found dead at the age of 46 on April 6 at his home in Dorset  with no suspicious circumstances around his sudden death.

Hannah and Paul dated from 2001 before splitting in 2006, with the pair rekindling their romance in 2015 before finally going their separate ways just months later.

Singer and actress Hannah, 42, has spoken of her devastation over Paul's death and said she 'can't stop crying' and her fellow band members have now confirmed she won't be joining them on the upcoming tour.

Jon Lee, Rachel Stevens, Tina Barrett,  Jo O'Meara and Bradley McIntosh  announced they would be continuing the tour without her, with the production being renamed The Good Times Tour in tribute to Paul.

In the clip Jon said: 'Sorry it's been a while since you've heard from us but in all honesty we've been in a bit of shock and it's taken a while for us to find the right words to describe how we feel about losing our brother Paul.'

Rachel continued: 'It's taken a time to process and get our heads round it all, and also taking time to share time together so that we can remember Paul and all the memories we had together.'

'It's just really sad,' added Tina. 'It's really, really hard to process it right now.'

Bradley said: 'We're all in so much disbelief and Paul was a big brother to us, all of us, and even to you guys out there. He truly was a unique specimen of a human being.

'No one could ever, ever replace our Paul but he lives on inside each and every one of us.'

Getting tearful, Jo said: 'Whenever Paul walked into the room, you definitely knew he was there because he would just light it up with humour and love, and just a really special person.'

Referring to Hannah's absence in the video, Jon continued: 'You've probably already noticed there's only five of us here today and although Hannah will always be a part of S Club 7, she won't be joining us on this tour.

'We wish her all the best for the future. However, the five of us are geared up and ready to crack on. It's going to be our tribute to Paul.

'So we are actually renaming the tour The Good Times Tour, which is the song that Paul was going to sing.'

Tina said: 'We're calling the tour The Good Times Tour in tribute to Paul because that was his song and all the fans know that was his song so it just feels right.'

'And he's always going to be with us,' said Rachel. 'Such a huge part of this tour, so involved in everything that we are planning and we're just going to keep his memory alive and share it with all of you, and it's going to make it even more special.'

With a tear dropping down her face, Jo said: 'It will and thank you to all the fans who have sent so many beautiful messages to us all... We'll see you all really soon guys.'

It comes after Hannah said she has been  concentrating on her life with her loved ones after the devastating news of Paul's death.

Hannah admitted last month that she 'can't stop crying' after pop star Paul died suddenly at the age of 46 earlier the same month.

An emotional Hannah revealed how Paul was the most excited of the group ahead of S Club's upcoming reunion arena tour, revealing the pair, who dated for seven years, had laughed and hugged as they met up to 'clear the air' before the plans were finalised.

'It’s still so raw and I have these moments where I don’t quite believe that it’s real. I still can’t believe I will never see him again,' she told The Sun .

'It’s all the more tragic because he was looking forward to the tour the most out of all of us. He just wanted to have fun and enjoy it.'

Paul was found dead at his home in Dorset on April 6.

The sad news came six months before the S Club 7 tour was due to take place in October.

Hannah told how she received a message from her management team asking her to contact them.

She explained: 'I called the number and was told, "Paul has sadly passed, Paul has died".

'I couldn’t make sense of it and had so many questions. I was trying to process it but I just couldn’t.'

Hannah has concentrated on her life with her loved ones - partner Adam Thomas, 42, and their children Taya, four, and Tora, two.

However, Hannah said she is overwhelmed with grief when she is alone, adding 'my heart is broken for him and his family'.

Hannah said Paul was happier than he had been in years, which makes it 'even more heartbreaking'.

Primeval star Hannah expressed her gratitude for the 'heartwarming' messages of support from fans, saying they'd brought 'a little ray of sunshine within the darkness'.

S Club 7 announced in February this year that they would be embarking on a reunion tour in October to mark their 25th anniversary as a band.

Hannah and Paul dated for seven years and eventually went through a tough split as a couple in 2015.

Their management arranged a meeting with a mediator so they could work through their differences in January.

Hannah said she wanted to look to the future and ensure they could work together harmoniously and not make the rest of the band feel awkward.

After their initial nerves dissolved, she said the pair were talking fondly about their time working together as a band in the 90s.

The pair first met when Hannah was 13, when they were both members of the National Youth Music Theatre.

They were both chosen three years later for S Club 7 which was put together by the manager of the Spice Girls, Simon Fuller, when Paul was approached directly and Hannah auditioned.

They later moved in to a flat in London's East Finchley but they grew closer romantically while filming for the group's BBC television series Miami 7 in the United States in 1999, with Hannah describing Paul as 'my first true love'.

Paul left S Club in 2002 and he and Hannah split four years later.

They rekindled their romance when the pop group reunited in 2015 but they went their separate ways for good three months later.

It comes after Bradley McIntosh broke his silence to share a tribute to his late S Club 7 bandmate Paul Cattermole.

The singer spoke out on Friday after his bandmate was found dead at his home in Dorset on 6 April, with a cause of death yet to be announced.

Bradley, 41, wrote on Instagram alongside an old video of himself and Paul messing around by donning wigs in a shop at the peak of their fame: 'I can’t believe I’m writing this right now but as many of you know we lost our dear friend, fellow band member and big brother Paul last week.

'Thankyou for the good times the memories and big love. We had so many great adventures together.

'I know your not going to be with us on the next one in the physical but you’ll always be with us in our hearts and thoughts. Gonna miss you. Love you bro. R.I.P.'

'This has been utterly devastating, and I am totally shocked and heartbroken.

'We have lost someone so incredibly special to us all, and there is a huge sense of sadness that will never go.

'Paul will forever be a huge part of our lives, and I will forever treasure the memories we made! I will love you always Paul, God bless you my darling, Rest in forever Peace Love JoJo.'

Rachel added: 'Thank you so much for all your beautiful messages of love and support. The outpouring of love for our Paul has been so incredibly special and has meant so much. I hope he knew how loved he was.

'Such a kind, gentle and sensitive soul with the most incredible energy and such a wild free spirit. He would light up any room.

'We are heartbroken but so grateful for the memories we all shared. An absolute shining star who we will love and miss always. RIP darling Paul.'

The band also said on Twitter in a joint statement: 'We are truly devastated by the passing of our brother Paul.

'There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel. We were so lucky to have had him in our lives and are thankful for the amazing memories we have.

'He will be so deeply missed by each and every one of us. We ask that you respect the privacy of his family and of the band at this time.'

This is a blatant lie. Hannah's death wasn't a suicide. She was murdered. I have the documents proving it. Her father is a damn liar.

Justin William Papworth Rodríguez, do you have no conscience? You are a disturbed individual with your convoluted narratives and lies. Hannah died from an accidental overdose. You continue to make up lies about everything and everyone. Your life must be truly sad. To know that you aren’t even 1/5th of the lies you continue telling the world you are. You didn’t even finish basic training. You weren’t recruited by the FBI. Your emails to the defense team continue to go unanswered. She is not your baby sister. You have never solved a case before. You aren’t any kind of analyst. You didn’t even get to become a medic. You sell cannolis product on a low rent website and your last employer was Target. District 5080 International Friendship Tour

View of the Lake at Camp Lutherhaven

Last Saturday afternoon I returned home from the best week of my exchange so far. All of the inbound students came together for the District International Friendship Tour. It was amazing to see the exchange family again, yet upsetting because we all knew that this would be our last week together.

The tour started on Friday night, with a weekend at beautiful Camp Lutherhaven, just south of Coeur ’d Alene. It was the orientation weekend for all the district outbounds, meeting, socialising and sharing our exchange experiences with the outbounds made me reflect back to my first orientation weekend at the Sunshine Coast last August.

On Saturday we got up early greeted with a wonderful view and scrumptious breakfast of French Toast and oatmeal. We all knew that the outbounds had a long day of the necessary lectures and presentations ahead of them, and I couldn’t help feeling sorry for them, as us inbounds headed earlier than expected to Silverwood. I had been waiting to go to Silverwood ever since our school bus passed it on the way to a softball game. It was funny how everybody talked about it with so much excitement, it is the largest theme park in the Northwest, yet tiny compared to the theme parks on the gold coast. We immediately sticked in groups, trying all the rides we could, starting with the roaring creek log flume. We made our way around the rides and headed in for lunch. After lunch we split up a little more, going on our fair share of little rides to keep our stomach settled. My favourite part of the day was when we all met up as a group at the Round Up. Lucrezia, who was ill, was feeling better and surprised us by turning up at Silverwood! We all decided that we would tackle Thunder Canyon, and all ended up getting soaked! We all got together and argued who got the wettest. We had an amazing day and headed back to camp exhausted.

Thankfully, inbounds got a leisurely morning sleep in on Sunday, with our first event of the day; brunch. We talked and socialised with the outbounds, and then had an emotional talk from Colleen, who reminded us it was Mother’s Day. Tears were shed as us inbound girls enveloped Colleen in a hug. We said our goodbyes and good lucks to the outbound students and headed off to Moscow. We arrived at the Student Rec Centre at the University of Idaho, and had an afternoon of climbing. We encouraged each other and put our life in each others hands as we belayed for each other up the rock climbing wall. For dinner we had an amazing make your own tacos buffet, and met up with some of the Rotarians and Trinity – who went on her exchange to Brazil last year. Dinner was about 5 blocks from my house, so Jade and I walked home and grabbed a few things. We managed to utilise the short cut through the High School, and that was pretty awesome, being with someone who has a similar school setting in their home country to what I do, and then being able to point at the differences together, it was a relief to have someone who understands the differences. As it was Mother’s Day, after firstly wishing my second Host Mom a Happy Mothers Day, we went to my first host family to see my first host mom too. This was quite amusing as Jade is from the same Rotary district that Emma in and has met her, and so she was able to meet Emma’s family and see where she lives in Moscow. We slept in the Bear Den wrestling room, and were quite uncomfortable, but that didn’t matter to us because we were all together.

Tuesday night we headed for Clarkston, into the warmer weather. We stopped at the top of the mountain before descending into the valley, and carried out the well known tradition of Rotary Exchange students…Flags! The view was spectacular. This was one of my favourite parts of the trip.

We spent Thursday in Walla Walla, giving a presentation about the Rotary Youth Exchange Program to the huge club of Walla Walla. We all spoke about where we are from, where we are staying in district 5080, and our favourite parts of our exchange years. It was very emotional when we all began talking about the memories we had made, most of us said our favourite parts of the exchange was meeting our exchange family. It was then I realised I had to say goodbye to my family on Saturday, not knowing when I would see most of them again. We then had a long drive to Spokane, which was mainly used for sleeping. We stopped at beautiful Palouse Falls, where again, the flags were out! I really want to go back there and hike down for a swim in the summer. Once we got to Spokane we had an emotional night saying goodbye to Ginevra and facing the reality of a city. We spent some times playing games with Interact Crew 21, and I played Kickball for the first time, a version of baseball with a soccer ball.

Palouse Falls

Friday was a relaxing day, our final full day together. Everyone was looking forward to spending the morning shopping, all of us students don’t have much time to explore American shopping malls as we all live in small towns. We then headed to Riverfront Park, the site of the World Expo in 1974. We had a ball riding the Looff Carrousel and just spending time with each other. We then went to Lazertag and definitely didn’t improve international relations. This day was memorable because we just had fun being with each other, we stayed up until 2am signing each others flags and books. I still haven’t read mine as I am afraid I will become emotional.

Saturday was an emotionally exhausting day saying goodbye to everyone. I know that I will see some of the other exchange students again, on our tour around the USA, and I am so excited for that. Thank you again for Rotary for giving me a wonderful opportunity that enables me to experience new things and meet new amazing people.

My First Month In Moscow

Posted on February 15, 2016 by hannahsrotaryexchange

I landed in Spokane, after a long flight, and a series of delays, at 7pm on Saturday 16 th . I was exhausted, and quickly met by my host family, who greeted me with coats, scarves, blankets, pretty much anything they could get their hands on that would keep me warm. Although that had not prepared me for the cold that met me as I stepped out of the airport. Low and behold something magical, snow! And of course, the weather that comes with it, the cold. It was a long drive to Moscow with the heat turned up, and it took all my might to not scream at my new Host Dad that he was in fact driving on the wrong side of the road. We went out for dinner in downtown Moscow, and I had my first taste of American Pizza.

My First Dinner with my new Family

Unfortunately, one of the first challenges I had to face, aside from trying to understand all these American accents that were talking so fast at me, was trying to find my luggage. My luggage was lost somewhere between Brisbane and LA, finding it, and then getting it to me took almost two weeks. It finally arrived with the help of a lovely woman at Alaska Air, and I was very happy to finally have a few more of my own clothes to wear.

IMG_6942

Happiness is seeing your delayed luggage.

My first morning, despite being groggy with sleep, was quite eventful. Ben, my host brother made us all waffles, and Emma’s friends Katie and Felicity came round for brunch too. Waffles, I can now say, are delicious!

The following week I caught up on my sleep, which I needed quite a lot of. My host brother Ben was impressed and confused as to why and how I can sleep so often and for such long periods of time. I went to school on the Wednesday and chose my subjects, and then went to my first Rotary meeting. The Rotary meeting was very overwhelming, although the people were very kind and generous. Many people made their happy dollar about me arriving, and they gave me my monthly allowance so I could buy myself some clothes! I met my two counselors, Joy and Holly, and of course had to have a photo with both the American Flag and the Canadian flag. The meeting went quickly in a blur of American accents.

IMG_6838

IMG_6840

My first host family, my counsellors and I, at my first Rotary meeting.

My first day of school, in America. Everyone can remember their first day at a new school right? Not me, I was grade 4, 9 years old, and graduated in November from the same school. I didn’t ever really have to be the new girl; how do you even be the new girl? (To be honest I still don’t know, and even worse, how do you be the new Australian girl?) Luckily Felicity and Katie were there to show me the ropes. I rugged up warm, and got my one and only lift to school. I walked in just as the bell rang and proceeded towards my first class of the today. I was – and still am- amazed by how it looks just like the movies, the corridors, the lockers! There is even a pencil sharpener in each classroom, the desks with connected chairs are a thing, and some teachers still use chalkboards! I thought I was back in the 70s, but no, welcome to Moscow High School. Unfortunately, my day didn’t go quite as I had planned, and after I had shut the front door of home I immediately began to cry, I was never going back. Luckily for me though, I have the greatest host brother who proceeded to give me a hug, made me hot chocolate and a pop tart. Welcome to American school, cry but hey – American food! Unfortunately, the Rotary rules mean that I have to go to school, however I am glad I went back. People have become friendlier, and I have made a few friends. I have joined several clubs, and the band and choir, and I hopefully will join softball soon.

IMG_6837

Band, wow that’s an experience! My first American basketball game with the pep band. I am impressed with the Moscow Bear Pride. The night was Aloha themed, people were dressed to theme and I managed to grab a t-shirt! The band plays for the Varsity team, in the bear den, and the student body has a stand. The band plays the anthem, the half time show, and during the timeouts. The amount of support the students gave was amazing, something that St Paul’s can’t even compare to. I was so pleased to be part of a student body that has such pride.

I am in a very hockey driven family, on my second weekend I got my first taste. Ben’s game, although we lost, was very intriguing. I was very shocked at the violence, but I have since seen the padding they wear to stop them being hurt. I would love to join the team, however I can barely skate on the ice – but I am working on it! The first Friday night I was taken to The Palouse Hockey Rink Fundraising Gala, and sat on the table with Ben and some of the high school team.

I had my 18 th birthday, and Australia Day during my first week of school, and my host family were superb in helping me celebrate! My host mom looked up Australian activities and facts and word searches for Ben and I to do during breakfast on Australia Day, and I cooked lamb for dinner, with Pavlova for desert. At my rotary meeting I was sung happy birthday and had cake, and my two host families took me out for dinner. It was so nice to be so loved, even if I had only been here a week or two.

IMG_6921

Last weekend I went on a skiing trip to 49degrees North with the other Rotary Exchange students. It was lovely to meet all the students, and hear how their year has been going so far, and them explaining their highlights. It was also great to get advice from people who had already been through it, and the countries everyone was from was completely different from our Inbounds in Australia. Jade, from New Zealand and I began talking in Aussie slang, and nobody understood what we were talking about, that was quite amusing. I am so ready and excited to see all the inbounds again in May for the district tour.

IMG_6961

I have had some very new experiences, like going to Top Of The World and Nadir throwing snowballs at me. I also have had to learn to walk in the snow on my way to school, without falling over, which I somehow managed. The amount of burgers I have eaten has got to have reached double digits, sorry mum and dad. I really can’t wait for all the new and exciting things ahead of me.

The food here is very good! The brussel sprouts, curry chicken, noodles and wings were a perfect combo for the two of us. Great Moscow Mules too!

Another great meal and eating experience. James was our server and was beyond great. Thank you guys so much. Love this place! Fabulous food, drinks, atmosphere, but not so nice of a hostess, jasmine. Not sure what her problem is, don't care either. We had a great meal, great appetizers, great double Moscow Mules , and loved the shaken beef! We will be back for sure!!! Ok, we're back, again! Chad was our server this time. He was great! As was James, our other server. Great service and food, again. We had the beef satay noodles and shaken beef and spicy beef soup. Oh, and the dessert, chocolate cake, was delish!!! We will be back soon.

We went here last night for my boyfriend's brother's birthday dinner. It's in a great location and has an awesome atmosphere. The food was seafood/noodle fusion. I ordered the Seabass as my entree, boyfriend ordered the Shaken Beef, and we had calamari as appetizers with some Moscow Mules . Entrees around $35-40 per plate, cocktails $14, & I don't remember the prices of apps. Calamari was phenomenal. So so so delicious. Everything was good and came out with excellent preparation. The vibe and energy of the place is my favorite - and the food was great, but possibly a tad overpriced for the quantity. It's not a TON of food per plate, but definitely an awesome place & would come again.

Came here for an early dinner after our museum family day, a beautiful restaurant next to Lady M bakery. Chose to sit in the patio dining area, it felt more open and relaxing cause it was a nice warm day. Americanized Vietnamese food, a little bit of Asian fusion too. Started off with Badoit sparkling water, parents asked for hot water, they used a very pretty tea pot for hot water with fresh lemons, I like it when ppl make little regular things fancy. Menu is big with decent varieties, we chose two appetizers to share, chicken dumplings and tuna tartare with Asian shrimp chips. Both dishes were very light and healthy, I loved the tuna tartare, others liked the dumplings a lot too. We ordered a few entrees to sample, whole fried lobster with handmade noodles, wok veggies and black cod in clay pot, added handmade noodles with Uni and tiger prawns later on. The food was hits and misses, unfortunately the pricey dishes tasted NOT good at all. We loved the black cod and wok veggies, flavorful but not salty or oily. The fried lobster was less than impressive, too dry to our liking, and not meaty at all, the noodles have perfect textures but a bit too sweet. Didn't think it was worth $52. The noodles with Uni was so creamy we had trouble finishing it, had to make it to go, the shrimps were a bit hard and chewy. I guess their famous dishes didn't work out for us, the drinks were tasty, I had Moscow mule with their premium vodka, it was a perfect pour. Hubby had a glass of Veuve Clicquot for $20, I think it's better deal to just order a bottle for $116. I'd give the food 3 stars, but the service was definitely top notch, so overall it was a solid 4 stars. Our waitress was extremely friendly and chatty, all the staffs were very attentive and polite. A pleasant dinner in Beverly Grove, although the OK Asian food was a bit overpriced, but I still enjoyed it very much! Ps. Valet is for the district and lady M both places.  If you love Lady M cakes, might as well just pick up some before leaving.

I've only been here for happy hour and it was pretty good! They have $5-7 drink specials and $6 food specials. My coworker and I shared the signature noodles with tofu ($10 -- extra $4 for tofu) and the tuna tartare ($6). The noodles had a good chewiness and went well with the sweet sauce.. Yum! The tofu was fried and pretty tasty, but probably not worth the $4 for like 6 little cubes. Tuna tartare was ok, but nothing particularly memorable. I also had a Moscow mule ($7) and a glass of prosecco ($5). The Moscow mule wasn't very gingery, but I still liked it. The ambiance is good and I love their outdoor patio. They had heating outdoors which was perfect for a semi-chilly night. Glad to find another solid happy hour spot near work. I'm already craving those noodles again!

Came here for my first time with a friend during DineLA. Got the Kale salad, Viet spring rolls, Signature noodles w tofu, and Tapioca for dessert. I also got a Moscow Mule to drink - not the best and a bit watery from the beginning. Not enough ginger in in at all. The kale salad was built to perfection. Just the right amount of dressing, crunch on point, and proportioned parmesan cheese to complete the dish. I could probably eat a tub of that salad if they let me. The Viet spring rolls were ok. Nothing too out of this world, but I could tell they were freshly made. I wish there was more of that crispness to them. Ours were a little wilted? soggy? I can't really explain but not that feeling of crisp. The noodles are apparently signature, but from what I saw, it was regular ramen seasoned quite well. Nothing particularly special about the noodles, and I can make the tofu on a daily basis. Wasn't very impressed on that end. But my friend got the sea bass (which I recommended to her - telling her it will be buttery and melt in her mouth), and she absolutely enjoyed it! So I have a feeling their seafood is on point! We shared the tapioca and the pineapple banana bread pudding for dessert. Both desserts quite tasty. It was a great way to end the meal and the portions were pretty big for the desserts. Our waiter was extremely helpful in selecting dishes and very friendly. A little slow in between times in getting our order / wait for food times. But I would give him an A+, because the night was very enjoyable. The person at the front was quite friendly as well, but the lady doing the sitting was a bit rude. As the seater was about to ask if we wanted indoor/outdoor seating, she cut in and didn't give us an option. I found the moment to not be pleasant. Love the interior space and outdoor patio area. Bathrooms are clean and those sinks are top notch! Will definitely come to this place on special occasions and for some good vegetarian food :)
