Cool Cruiser

Cruising soon and in the process of starting to plan what to pack!  What do you typically pack in your carryon!  What size bag do you usually use?

it all depends on which region you are cruising to

neverbeenhere

neverbeenhere

Everything, as we target entering the ship as the staterooms open.

As we fly from Canada to Florida, the chance of the airline losing your bags are very high.

Camera gear, phone charger, laptop chargers and both laptops.  Three  full changes of clothes each and our  swimwear. Medications.  Basically anything worth stealing, and anything we would badly miss if our luggage was lost.

Like

Bathing suit, extra outfit, meds, travel docs, jewelry (even though not that expensive) and chargers.  Size differs depending on if it’s overseas or Rt from a drivable port.

JC in CA

We have a short flight from San Jose, CA to Long Beach, CA.  So we are flying in same day.  In my carryon I will have:

swimsuit and coverup

water bottle

phone charger

travel docs

small pack of cleaning wipes - taking 2 grandkids with us - so will wipe down tray table and arm rests on the plane - and also will wipe down door handles and high touch surfaces in our cabins.

doghog

My carryon is a medium size backpack and my wife's is her purse.  A few prescription medications, jewelry, passport, drivers license, medical insurance card, money, camera, cruise travel documents, ect.

Mum2Mercury

Documents and cash

Electronics

I've never understood carrying on a swimsuit -- if you want to hit the pool or water slides early (and that's a pretty good idea), wear them!  I often board wearing a swimsuit with a dress-type cover-up.  My husband often boards wearing swim trunks + a matching tee.

We drive ourselves to the port, hand our suitcases over to the porters personally, and wait to see them placed on the rolling carts that carry them onto the ship.  As such we aren't worried about our luggage being lost.

Perfect way to sum it up 🙂

Anything you'd need to "survive" if your checked luggage is lost.

Tatka

Personal hygiene

cords to charge phones and such

Swimming suite

Everything that CASH can't replace.

I have a rollerbag with all the basics.  I will gate check it at first opportunity to save baggage check fees.

I carry a backpack -

Shore Excursion bag (for shopping to replace stuff in the lost suitcase)

My remote work computers (I am a gig worker - I work on cruises).

Personal computer (it has all the cruise docs on it)

Tablet (with e-books)

Tooth brush and toothpaste.

SCUBA Regulators and dive computers.

Not much else.

Medications

Change of clothing

Other important papers

Bathroom essentials

We always fly to the port the night before. In addition to what others have already said, I move a can of sunscreen from my checked luggage to my carrry on before leaving the hotel in the morning. I don’t want to burn my first day on the ship.

Everything !

We haven't checked baggage in 3 years and have so far done trips up to 19 days . Airlines are a mess with delays , cancellations and lost baggage like never before . We just avoid the possible hassle this way

Great Review

cruiselvr04

2-3 days of clothing

Clothing for me that’s hard to replace like swim suit, bras

Extra pair of shoes, sometimes dress shoes

Medication

Toiletries, Make up

Anything electronic or with a cord

cash, passport, travel documents

contacts, glasses

Basically it’s anything that can’t be or would be hard to replace. Or something that I can’t do without for even for a few days.

I do this for every trip I fly, not just cruises. Bags get lost or as a recent cruiser reported her bag fell into the ocean while being loaded on a ship.

Luggage tags

First Saga cruise coming up in a fortnight. I have had a pre-embarkation letter, but no luggage labels. Do these come separately? If they do, I’d be a bit concerned about getting them in time because of postal strikes/delays. Maybe they are emailed?  But I assume that, if necessary, you can get tags on arrival at Southampton.

They usually come with the pre-embarkation letter. Give Saga a ring on the after sales number & get them to post out to you/E-Mail.

I'm guessing I will have to get my luggage tags and pre-embarkation letter by email since I am coming from the US. Maybe they'll be waiting for me when I return from my cruise about 3 weeks later.

Saga also have Representative with Luggage Labels/ deal with any issues etc available prior to Check In.

Thank you. I’ll try to make contact later today. I do find it curious that the pre-embarkation letter does not even mention luggage tags.

You can get them in port if needs be

I've always asked the staff at the pier to staple the luggage tags. (I'm definitely not going to lug a stapler around for the convenience of the cruise line.) If I've even printed them out, that is - which more and more often I have not even bothered with doing. The staff at the pier can always write out a luggage tag for you.

  11. Who has used CruiseCritic Luggage tags?

I just bought the cruise critic luggage tags. They look very cool. But I am a little worried about the clear thin hanger. I didn't want to test its strength and break it. I usually put about 10 staples in each one, lol So question is has anyone used them and did they stay secure?

  17. About These Luggage Tags

Posted July 1. There are only two valid reasons to put your luggage tags on before your flights: 1) You are the kind to forget to put them on after you take your bags from the airport baggage claim. 2) You want to impress the check-in agents and baggage handlers who will see you are on Crystal. 3.
