Vacation of a Lifetime Exclusive: Fado House Performance and dinner

Tonight, you'll visit one of the famed local fado houses for an unforgettable performance and savor a typical Portuguese meal, with wine included. Fado is the expressive national song of Portugal, often called the soul of their identity. Fado is a performance genre incorporating music and poetry widely practiced by various communities in Lisbon. It represents a Portuguese multicultural synthesis of Afro- Brazilian sung dances, local traditional genres of song and dance, musical traditions from rural areas of the country brought by successive waves of internal immigration, and the cosmopolitan urban song patterns of the early nineteenth century.

Meals: dinner

Accommodations: Olissippo Marques de Sa (March departure) / Turim Av Liberdade (April and October departures)

Delve into Lisbon's centuries-old seafaring heritage today, paying tribute to the brave men who set off from these shores to discover the 'New World'. With the local specialist, see the shimmering white Monument to the Discoveries, the iconic suspension bridge spanning the Tagus, and Belém Tower, built to commemorate Vasco da Gama's expedition. Dive into culture on a sightseeing tour of the UNESCO-listed Hieronymite Monastery, an exquisite testament to 16th-century Manueline architecture and art.

Vacation of a Lifetime Exclusive: Cooking Class or Stadium Tour

Hands-on Cooking Class

Partake in a two-hour hands-on cooking class, where you will learn how to make the famous and delicious Portuguese custard tart! It is believed that one of the secrets of the pastéis de nata is the crunchy puff pastry, so you will learn to make it from scratch!

Guided Tour of the Local Football Stadium

Explore the local football stadium with a tour of the grounds and the museum at Benfica Stadium. It is even considered as a cathedral by many fans. Even though many stadiums do try to stand out with innovative design elements, the Estadio da Luz has been successful with the stadium being voted as the most beautiful in Europe by L’Équipe.

Vacation of a Lifetime Exclusive: Private Yacht Sunset Cruise along the Tagus

You will have the opportunity to see the most emblematic monuments of Lisbon as well as fantastic views of the River Tagus. Leaving the Doca de Belém to the estuary of the Tagus River, we have the Monument to the Discoveries, an impressive monument built to celebrate the rich Portuguese heritage. Navigating upstream, passing under the 25th of April Bridge, see the dome of the Basilica da Estrela in the Old City of Lisbon. This is a wonderful view of Lisbon’s most splendid sights, from the comfort of a stunning sailboat.

Meals: breakfast

Journey across the Tagus this morning and drive south, towards the Serra da Arrábida Mountains and to the golden pastures of the Alentejo. The hearty aroma of Portuguese chicken fills the air at the 'Be My Guest' experience as you connect with locals over a traditional lunch at a stud ranch, where Lusitano horses were once reared at the pleasure of King João VI in the 18th century.

Saddle up for a superb stud farm visit, the tragic story of unrequited love and a traditional homecooked lunch with Tiago and Vera in Portugal’s beautiful Alentejo. On arrival, guests will be met by Vera and Tiago (when he is not busy with the horses) and enjoy a soft drink in front of the stables. Afterwards, guests will be taken on a short tour of the property and then into Tiago’s grandparent’s house, where lunch can be enjoyed in various old and charming salons of the house, including the kitchen.

Admire spectacular views across Baleeira Beach, before continuing along the coast to Cape St. Vincent, the site of many sea battles centuries ago.

End the day with a visit (or return visit if in March) to the resort town of Lagos - once the home of Henry the Navigator. Here, enjoy a seafood dinner as the sun sets over the sea before returning to the hotel (Lagos hotel for March and Albuferia hotel for June).

Begin the day at the Livraria Lello in Porto, one of the world's oldest bookstores and frequently ranked as one of the most beautiful in the world. Opened in 1906, the bookstore was once a haunt of the city's literary scene, and many say it was a direct inspiration for J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels, as she lived in Porto from 1991 to 1993 and frequented the store.

Today, the bookstore sees 4,000 to 5,000 visitors a day, which can make the cramped bookstore feel like a tourist trap. Vacation of a Lifetime Guests will have early access prior to the store opening in the morning for a private tour of the store and each guest will be able to choose a book to take home with them.

After, join a local specialist today for a sightseeing tour in Porto, which takes you past Baroque churches and along the winding cobblestone lanes that tumble down towards the Douro River.

See the remarkable bridges that span the river and the Gothic Church of St. Francis. Visit the Stock Exchange Palace with its splendid Arabian Hall, inspired by Granada's Alhambra, then Dive Into Culture and into the centuries-old tradition of local port production at a tasting in a port cellar.

Vacation of a Lifetime Exclusive: Old Town Braga and Bom Jesus Sanctuary or Porto Food and Wine Tour

Visit Old Town Braga and Bom Jesus Sanctuary

Join a local specialist to Braga, a charming historic city and Portugal’s third-largest settlement. Braga is Portugal’s oldest city and is widely regarded as being the most religious place in Portugal. Visit the Bom Jesus Sanctuary, where the steps are said to represent the stairway to heaven.

Porto Food and Wine Tour

Explore the culinary delights of Porto on a foodie walk, an authentic introduction to Porto's gastronomical scene, using history, architecture and culture as background. During the food and wine tour, taste traditional Portuguese dishes, regional wines (including Port) and local pastries. In total, experience a well-balanced gastronomic tour of 7 different foods and 3 different beverages.

Soak up the grand atmosphere of one of Europe's greatest and oldest universities and stroll through the ancient streets and squares of Coimbra. Shortly after, journey to the Templar city of Tomar to visit the Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage site originally built as a Templar stronghold in the 12th century. Arrive in the pilgrimage center of Fátima where millions of Catholic pilgrims travel every year to the site where it is said three young shepherds famously saw apparitions of the Virgin Mary.

Accommodations: Hotel Fátima

Itinerary Days 10 - 11

Enroute to Lisbon, stop at the imposing monastery of Batalha - a UNESCO World Heritage site and the best example of late Gothic architecture in Portugal. The Monastery is one of the most impressive religious buildings of Portugal and took over a hundred years to construct.

The next stop is the fishing village of Nazaré, one of the finest beach resorts in Portugal. Explore the cobbled streets that lead from the beachfront. Here, fisherman’s houses have been converted into stylish hotels and older generations still wear traditional dress. It is also famous for surfers who come to surf the colossal waves that break off the Praia do Norte beach.

Vacation of a Lifetime Exclusive: VIP After-Hours Private Visit to Pena Palace

On the final evening, travel to the town of Sintra to visit the Palacio Nacional da Pena one of the finest tourist attractions in Portugal. The palace is a mix of vividly painted terraces, decorative battlements and mythological statues which stand on contrast to the surrounding Pena Forest. Guests will have a private after-hours guided tour of the palace and a drinks reception on the terrace with music. Afterwards, return to Lisbon for a final dinner with your newfound friends.

Vacation of a Lifetime Exclusive: Farewell Dinner at a Fine Dining Restaurant

Tonight's restaurant will be an elegant representation of fine dining in Lisbon. Be prepared to surprise your senses with sophisticated and innovative recipes, pleasing more than just your palate. Enjoy your final evening in Lisbon with a meal and accompanying dining experience that you will not soon forget.

Summers are typically hot, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C, while winters are mild, averaging around 10°C to 15°C. The southern region, particularly the Algarve, tends to be hotter and drier, with temperatures sometimes exceeding 40°C during heatwaves.

On-Tour Luggage & Carry-On Bag Size Limits

Luggage : Each guest traveling may bring one suitcase no larger than 30” x 18” x 10" and weighing no more than 50 lb

Carry-On Bag : *Restricted to one piece per person, not to exceed 12” x 11” x 6”

  • *Please note : A "carry-on bag" on a tour coach is not the same as a "carry-on" for a flight. Because our coaches have large windows to enjoy the view, there is minimal space to store large items securely overhead or under the seats. A "carry-on bag" may be a soft-sided daypack, purse, backpack, tote bag, or the like. Because we value our guests' safety, small rolling suitcases or bags with telescopic handles are not permitted. In order to guarantee a smooth trip, guests are not permitted to store an additional "carry-on" bag beneath the coach with the luggage.

So your driver and any hotel porters can safely lift and transport your suitcase throughout your vacation, we strongly recommend that you test the weight of your baggage prior to travel. You should be able to lift and comfortably transport it for short distances.

Baggage allowances vary from airline to airline, and you should check with your chosen carrier for details prior to travel.

Packing Tips for Your Tour

Packing for a guided tour will vary depending on the duration of the trip, the time of year, and the activities planned. Here is a general packing list to help you get started:

Passport and Travel Documents : Ensure you have your passport , travel insurance , and any necessary travel documents.

  • Comfortable walking shoes: Cobblestone streets and uneven terrain require comfortable footwear.
  • Lightweight, breathable clothing: Pack clothes suitable for the season. Bring a mix of short-sleeved tops, lightweight pants or skirts, and a few long-sleeved options for cooler evenings for the summer months, and long-sleeved and heavier layers for early Spring, Fall, and Winter.
  • Layers: It's advisable to bring a light jacket or sweater and a scarf for layering, especially in Spring or Fall.
  • Nice evening wear: You may wish to wear a dressier outfit if you plan on dining in an elegant restaurant, for example. Smart-casual clothes are usually acceptable for all included daytime and evening activities throughout your tour.
  • Rain Gear: Depending on the season and the countries you're visiting, it's a good idea to pack a compact rain jacket or umbrella.

Sun Protection:

  • Hat, sunglasses, UV-protective clothing.
  • Sunscreen with high SPF. If you're visiting any coastal areas, bring reef-safe sunscreen formulated without harmful chemicals known to be damaging to coral reefs and marine life. Traditional sunscreens often contain ingredients like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which have been found to contribute to coral bleaching and negatively impact marine ecosystems. Look for sunscreens with certifications such as "Reef Safe," "Coral Safe," or "Ocean-Friendly" to ensure they are environmentally friendly .

Medications and First Aid:

  • Any prescription medications you need. (See more below under Health & Wellness)
  • Basic first aid kit with adhesive bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, etc.

Toiletries:

  • Travel-sized toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, soap, and toothpaste.
  • Travel towel (quick-drying and compact).
  • Hand sanitizer and wet wipes.
  • A washcloth and carry bag (often not available in hotels abroad).

Electronics:

  • A camera: You’re traveling to see extraordinary scenery and sites. So that you don't miss a single moment, bring a trustworthy camera. Check out our travel photography tips for capturing the best photos of your trips. If you feel comfortable, you can also try the camera on your phone . However, if you want to zoom in or capture moving objects, a camera might be your best bet.
  • Mobile phone.
  • Chargers for each electronic you bring.
  • Travel adapter and/or voltage converter
  • Portable power bank for charging devices on the go.
  • Small travel hair dryer (make sure you have the correct converter and adapter).

Miscellaneous:

  • A travel-friendly daypack or bag to carry your essentials during excursions.
  • Insect repellent.
  • Reusable water bottle. At GET, we’re all about caring for our planet , and with that in mind, we always recommend that you pack a reusable water bottle for your trip. Bringing your own reusable water bottle or asking for tap water at restaurants means you can make a difference by reducing your vacation plastic waste.
  • A small travel alarm.
  • A travel iron if you like your clothes to be pressed.
  • A travel pillow.
  • Scarf or shawl for visiting religious sites or to cover up in conservative areas.
  • Light sleepwear.
  • A new, blank journal to document your trip. Don't know your travel journal style? Find out here !
  • Ziplock bags (storing snacks, toiletries, and keeping things organized).

Remember to pack light and versatile items that can be mixed and matched for different outfits. Laundry facilities are often available, or you can have your clothes laundered at hotels during your trip. It's also a good idea to pack a small bag or backpack to bring on the coach for day trips and excursions, leaving your larger luggage at the hotel.

Electricity

American appliances run on 110-120 volts at 60 Hz, while European appliances run on 220-230 volts at 50 Hz.

As a result, American appliances designed for use in the United States (typically 120 volts at 60 Hz) may not be directly compatible with the higher voltage used in European countries. Plugging a 120-volt appliance into a 220-240-volt outlet without the appropriate voltage converter or transformer can cause damage to the appliance or pose safety risks.

If you plan to bring American appliances to Europe, you will need a voltage converter or transformer to change the voltage to 220-240 volts from 110 volts. Additionally, you will likely need a plug adapter to fit the American-style plug into the European power outlets. All of Europe operates on the same two round-pronged outlets (Type C).

It's important to note that not all appliances are compatible with voltage converters, so it's essential to check the labels or user manuals of your devices before using them with a voltage converter. Some electronic devices, such as laptops, smartphones, and camera chargers, are dual voltage and can support 120V and 220-240V, so they may not require a voltage converter, but a plug adapter will still be necessary.

To avoid any issues with electrical compatibility during your travels, consider purchasing appliances specifically designed for the voltage used in the region you'll be visiting or use appropriate voltage converters and plug adapters to ensure the safe operation of your American appliances in Europe.

We recommend purchasing an adapter with a voltage converter so you can pack less. And to pick up any necessary adapters or converters for your electronic devices before departing on your guided tour and bringing them with you.

Hair Dryers in Your Hotel

Hair dryers are common accessories in hotels. Should you want to bring your own, though, you will need to bring an adapter and voltage converter or make sure it is dual voltage by checking the label for INPUT AC 120V - 240V or a switch that can be set to 125V or 250V. Many devices have this feature, so it's worth checking before you travel. If you need a hair dryer during your trip but can't find one in your hotel room, you can inquire with the hotel staff. Many hotels will be able to provide a hair dryer upon request, either at the front desk or through housekeeping.

Air Conditioning

Air conditioning is commonly available in European hotels, restaurants, and public spaces, especially in major cities and tourist areas, but it is worth noting that the settings will differ from what you are used to in the USA.

However, it's important to note that not all accommodations or historic buildings may have air conditioning, particularly in more traditional or rural settings. Most hotels in Europe can provide a portable fan for additional room cooling if requested. Your Travel Director will be on hand to assist you throughout your trip.

Traveling by coach

Our modern air-conditioned coaches have been selected with your comfort in mind. Your Travel Director will familiarize you with all the onboard features, including a washroom fitted for your convenience and comfort. Regular stops are made to stretch your legs, take refreshments, fill up your water bottles, and use the facilities.

Airport transfers

Airport transfers to and from the airport on the first and last days of your tour are complimentary only if you are traveling on a tour operated by Trafalgar, Insight Vacations, or Luxury Gold, and   your flight times coincide with the shuttle-coach transfer timings. Learn more about Airport Transfers here .

To enable you to personalize your tour experience, you will find a number of Optional Experiences designed to complement the itinerary. These are designed to offer a deeper insight into the culture and character of the areas to be visited and provide some wonderful highlights to your travels. The optional program is designed to let you experience more of what interests you and to get the most from your vacation without replacing or overlapping with anything included in an itinerary.

The majority of Optional Experiences will be offered to you by your Travel Director at the beginning of your trip. Some may be subject to change, depending on the time you are traveling or local circumstances, including weather and days of the week. Your Travel Director will provide further information.

Usually, most Optional Experiences will be priced in the local currency, but please read through the details of individual optional experiences for specific information. Exact payment options will be advised locally by your Travel Director/Local Representative for each Optional Experience, but in many cases, cash, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are all accepted.

It is recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical expenses while abroad.

In order to ensure a healthy and enjoyable trip, we strongly suggest that you pack a plentiful supply of any medication you may need while on vacation. Here’s what you need to know about traveling with medications .

Prior to traveling, please notify GET of any disability requiring special assistance or any specific dietary needs that you may have, and we will strive to accommodate these.

It's essential to ensure that your routine vaccinations are up-to-date before traveling to any destination. Routine vaccinations may include vaccinations for measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, and influenza.

When traveling with GET, baggage handling at hotels, service charges, and tips for hotel wait staff (for included meals) will all be taken care of by your Travel Director. There are, however, a few instances where individual tipping is welcome.

Local Specialists

It is customary to show appreciation for the insights, stories, and know-how shared with you by the Local Specialists, and we suggest a gratuity equivalent to $1.00-$2.00 USD per person per half day.

Your Coach Driver and Travel Director

The trip cost does not include gratuities for your Travel Director and Driver. At the end of your trip, you may express appreciation to your Travel Director and Driver for their excellent service and the personal attention you received. Gratuities are given at the discretion of each guest, and a suggested amount per person/per day is listed in your travel documents.

For your convenience and ease, there is an option to pre-pay gratuities for the Travel Director and Driver at the time of booking.

Hotel services

It is customary to tip hotel staff for room service delivery if the charge has not already been added to the bill. Where ice machines are not available, and you receive ice from the bar, a small tip to the bartender is always appreciated.

Poor customer service

We have not commenced our Great European Tour to depart London on 19/5/24 and already have had poor customer service and disappointment. Our travel agent in Australia received an email stating that the hotel in London had changed. Our agent last October tried to reserve a room at The Tower Hotel but it was booked, so booked a room at Lalit within walking distance and non refundable. We now find out the new hotel, Thistle Marble is over 30mins away by taxi. The travel agent and I both requested either a shuttle or taxi to collect us but were rudely declined.

Trafalgar Splendors of Japan Tour was very dissapointing due to inexperienced tour guides

My wife and I recently returned from Trafalgar's Splendors of Japan with Hiroshima Tour and we were very dissapointed with the quality of the Tour Director, local tour guides and optional excursions/activities. The guides and tour director were extremely inexperienced, they could not elaborate or provide details on site visits, activities, meals, alternative things to do. Please consider hiring and or sub-contracting local vendors with more experience and better communication skills.

Trafalgar Tours really let us down on…

Trafalgar Tours really let us down on our South American trip. Poorly spoken guides, dirty busses , a very dangerous bus ride and a very boring itinerary with very few extras on offer. The Peru portion was great but the Chille, Brazil portion was very poor and the only reason why we enjoyed Argentina was because we had been to Buenos Aires a few times. The guide in Bariloche was seagull and uninspiring. I have done many trips with Trafalgar and Insight and this one was seriously lacking. What was even more disappointing is I wrote in my review all the complaints and no one apologised or adressed the issues hence my review here.

so-so experience

Had a problem with the travel portion of a tour I just booked. I called immediately to cancel literally minutes after I did an online deposit and they refused to refund the deposit which was probably not even processed yet. However, I tried a different number and a nicer person who told me non-refundable, but hold I will check with my manager. The manager did authorize the refund so I did not lose the $400.00. I thought it was nice of them but it should not have been so difficult and it took me a half hour to accomplish.

Date of experience : April 01, 2024

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We would like to remind you that our booking terms and conditions state that all deposits are non-refundable. However, we are happy to inform you that an exception was made for your booking, and the deposit refund was processed on April 2nd, 2024. Please check the last invoice you received from our Reservations Team for confirmation.

Gorgeous Greece

Gorgeous Greece. Moraig, our guide and Dimitri were excellent, they provided the best service- nothing was too much and the attention to detail was second to none. Brilliant tour, well organised, interesting and jam packed- awesome value for money. They were helpful, thorough, thoughtful and considerate. The local experts were phenomenal and passionate, our tour was the best of Greece and that’s definitely what we got.

We are delighted to receive your feedback and happy to know you had a wonderful experience. It's great to hear that you received exceptional service from our On The Road Teams, who are a valuable asset to our company. We are pleased that they provided outstanding service, enabling you to connect with the local people, contribute positively to the local ecosystem and economy, and fully immerse yourselves in the culture. We appreciate your feedback and want you to know that it has not gone unnoticed.

A decent tour with room for improvement

Overall, the tour was pretty fun, but there were some things that could have been done better in Milan. The hotel that was provided was fine, but it didn't have as many amenities as the other hotels that were part of the tour package. still, the itinerary was complete, including a lot of interesting things to see in the short amount of time that was available. The hotels were only average, but that's because they were on a tight budget. the coaches used for transportation were always clean and comfortable during the tour.,

Thank you for sharing your review with us. We are delighted that you had a fantastic experience with us and that our On Road Team contributed to your unique itinerary. We understand that ensuring our guests experience all the beautiful attractions in our itinerary can result in busy schedules and full days. However, we are aware that our guests would like to visit all the sites mentioned in the itinerary. Our Contracting Team puts a lot of effort into selecting the hotels we work with to ensure we offer comfortable, well-located accommodation at a great value. Nonetheless, we acknowledge that hotel standards vary from country to country. Some hotels may differ in size, character, and amenities from what our guests are accustomed to. However, we expect all our appointed hotels to meet our high standards. We have shared your comments with our Quality Control team to ensure our accommodation continues to offer our guests the best experience. Thank you for choosing to travel with Trafalgar. We appreciate your feedback.

Never again with Trafalgar Tours

We booked a Splendors of Japan Tour with Trafalgar and my husband was medically unable to go. We gave them 3 months notice and had to write 23 emails and make over 12 calls to get a partial refund. Their service is so poor and the right hand does not know anything about the left hand. We would NEVER use them again and tell all our friends how poorly they treated us. We mostly received these automatic, "no reply" emails and when you actually speak to someone, they put you on hold several times, for a lengthy hold and have nothing to offer except lip service! Terrible business, terrible service and we booked, they never shared with us they would penalize us for canceling 3 months advance!

Date of experience : January 09, 2024

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your valuable feedback. We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge receipt of your concerns and express our apologies for the level of service you have received from our Contact Centre that did not meet your expectations. We would like to acknowledge the cancellation you submitted three months prior to your scheduled travel date. We understand that you are aware of our booking conditions, which stipulate the industry standard cancellation fees. We cannot investigate the conditions surrounding your booking as we need your booking information. We are committed to providing our customers with the highest level of service. As such, our Guest Relations Department would be happy to assist you with any necessary documentation required to claim your travel insurance. Once again, we would like to thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

Never will we travel with Trafalgar…

Never will we travel with Trafalgar again. Paid top price and got budget tour from Madrid to Barcelona bus tour. Very little stopping to take pictures and shown very little tourist attractions. All about going from start to finish and nothing in-between. So disappointed after travelling hard way around the world.

Thank you for your review. We hope you had the chance to immerse yourself in the Spanish culture during your trip and enjoyed the warmth and hospitality of the locals, the delicious cuisine and the country’s rich history, which is all unique to this beautiful country. However, we were concerned to learn that you felt certain aspects of the trip could have been improved. Exploring this beautiful country in a condensed amount of time can be quite an adventure, and we strive to include the perfect amount of time at each location for in-depth discovery; there are certain towns where we wish to stay longer. We have shared your feedback with our Operations team as we constantly strive to see where our itineraries can be improved. That said, we still hope you have taken some lasting highlights during your time away with us.

Traveled all night USA to Fr

Traveled all night USA to Fr, can’t wait to get to see the hotel to freshen up and do some sightseeing. When I arrive with 4 pieces of luggage, at 9am, I am told, with an attitude, check in is 2pm, so here I am sitting in the lobby with my luggage, my very, very costly vacation is already ruined, never again

Date of experience : September 24, 2023

Thank you for your review. We are sorry that during your booking process, you were not well informed that the official check-in times vary from hotel to hotel. Should your flight arrive in the early morning into the city where your trip begins, you may find yourself arriving at the hotel before noon, and it could be early afternoon before your room is ready (Two pm or Three pm). Hotels try to prevent this from happening, but check-in times cannot be guaranteed. The hotel can suggest how any spare time could be used to sightsee, relax or enjoy local restaurants while your room is being prepared. When arriving at your first hotel, check in at the main reception desk. The reception staff will need to know your name and that you are travelling with Trafalgar. When your trip begins, check-in will be managed by the Travel Director, who will advise you on procedures and hotel features before arrival. They will secure keys and oversee the delivery of your luggage to your room. Thank you for choosing Trafalgar as your travel partner, and we hope that you have an unforgettable travel experience.

Best of Italy Tour for 13 days, really 11 days. Recommendation: Do NOT take a Trafalgar Tour of any kind!

Best of Italy Tour for 13 days--actually 12 days. This was our 2nd Trafalgar tour--1st was Egypt---also terrible! 1) Could ONLY understand about 10 % of the travel director's harangue. Her name was Frederica. The same situation occurred in Egypt. 2) The bus driver named Theo was surly and rude. 3) The Travel Director constantly sold the extra excursions. These were 2.5 times more expensive then privately-made tours. Example in Rome--Crown Tours. 4) The food was terrible. 5) The hotels were at best 2-3 star. NO AC, low water pressure, and the breakfasts were poor. 6) Many hours were spent most days on the bus--4-8 hours. There were 49 passengers on this bus! You could not relax on the bus because the tour director constantly was speaking and selling optional excursions. Again, could not understand but 10 % of what she said. 7) We pre-paid gratuities, but wished that we had not done so. Neither the driver nor Travel Director thanked us. We will not prepay again, however, we will NEVER take another Trafalgar Tour.

Date of experience : October 27, 2023

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We value your honest opinion and are sorry to hear that certain aspects of your trip did not meet your expectations. Our On The Road Team is integral to ensuring our guests have an enjoyable and comfortable experience during their travels. We carefully select team members who are passionate about travel and possess extensive knowledge of their respective regions. We are disappointed that your experience did not reflect this. Your feedback has been shared with our Operations Manager, and appropriate measures will be taken. We understand that our guests appreciate having the freedom to explore and engage with the local culture, which is why we provide a range of Optional Experiences. These experiences are designed to enhance our guests' understanding of the places we visit and are separate from the itinerary. Our Contracting Department ensures that our accommodations are of a four-star standard or higher. We apologise if the hotel standards did not meet your expectations. Similarly, we apologise for any disappointment caused by the meals provided during your trip. We appreciate that the cuisine of Italy is world-renowned, and we will investigate your feedback to ensure we offer only the best to our clients. We understand that the long coach rides may have been tiring, but we hope that the unique attractions outlined in the itinerary made up for it. Our luxury coaches can accommodate up to 52 guests, although we typically have an average of 40-48 guests. However, if additional space is required, our sister company, Insight Vacations, offers specially reconfigured coaches with only 40 seats, providing business-class legroom. A Classic Insight Vacations tour has a maximum of 40 travellers, whereas their Small Group departures have just 24. We understand that guests may have different preferences when it comes to gratuities. Therefore, we offer the option to prepay gratuities or pay during the trip. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to improve our future departures. We hope to host you again and provide an authentic Trafalgar experience.

Trafalgar overcharged us for pre paid…

Trafalgar charged us for pre paid gratuities. Suggest you don’t pay these in advance to Trafalgar. We found Trafalgar asked for almost NZ$80 ( allowing for local currency exchange rate) more than the tour leader and driver expected or would have got. So far Trafalgar hasn’t responded to our request for a refund of the overpayment. Also the ‘included’ meals at local venues were very poor quality with the exception of one. Only one hotel had air conditioning. Very few USB charge points on the bus worked. However The tour itinerary and tour leader were great.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your review. We are glad to hear that the child is recovering well. We apologise for not meeting your expectations during your interactions and appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention. Please email our Guest Relations Department at [email protected] with all your booking information. The team will assist you with the necessary paperwork for your travel insurance and conduct a full investigation into the booking. Thank you again for sharing your feedback.

Dont risk your money with Trafalgar

Trafalgar cancelled our tour booking without our consent because I asked about if there was availability on another tour. Never did they mention that enquiring about another tour they cancel your existing booking. Now the tour is full and I have spent $18,000 on Qantas airfares and accom. Tour booked in Jan 2023 for Sept 2023 tour. Nobody takes responsible and nobody will call me to discuss. Family of 4 holiday ruined,.

DO NOT RECOMMEND!!

DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! Trafalgar cancelled my trip too Santa Fe (which is understandable and accepted as their may not have been enough people booking, or COVID or whatever). The 90-100 days quoted to get a refund for the trip the company cancelled is NOT ACCEPTABLE. It has now been six weeks and Trafalgar still has my $3300. Calls to the service center take HOURS on hold. Horrible customer service. Horrible refund policy. Definitely disappointed.

Wish I had read the reviews before…

Wish I had read the reviews before booking with Trafalgar - I will NEVER travel with this tour company again. In September 2023 myself and a travel companion traveled to Northern Spain. The experience for the most part was awful. Some hotels were lovely, some meals were good, wine was plentiful but other hotels and meals were terrible. Biggest complaint was the pressure and fast paced walking to keep up with the tour director. It was rush, rush, rush with little to no time to explore, take pictures, etc. There were 52 passengers on the bus and little time to use the restrooms when we stopped, get a refreshment or look around. The whole trip was exhausting and grueling and it was clear the tour director just had a schedule to keep (not his fault). I was so glad when the tour came to an end.

Thank you for your feedback during your time spent in Spain. We aim to provide the best travel experience for our guests, and it is only through your valuable feedback that we can continue improving the standards we are known for. Our team strives to provide the most unique and enjoyable guided vacations for all our guests, and we’re saddened to read that you feel we missed the mark in this instance. We understand that an active itinerary can be tiring and that some valuable guests prefer smaller groups. We apologise that you were not well informed regarding the group size for this trip at the time of the booking. We have designed our Trafalgar tours to accommodate up to fifty-two guests on our luxury coaches, although we average forty to forty-five guests. If smaller groups are a must and a leisure itinerary is what you prefer, our sister company, Insight Vacations, has small group departures with a maximum of twenty-four and offers some selected itineraries at a leisurely pace. That said, we still hope you have taken many lasting highlights away from your time in Spain.

Trafalgar is a money scoop

Trafalgar is a money scoop, Kiss it goodbye. The trip Guides are Phenomenal, the company is DIRT. I think they are in financial trouble. Trying to get them on the phone is impossible. Have been through Europe Rome to London, Then Portugal and Spain. Quality of Excursions are poor, and cheaply done. Hotels are outside of city centers to make you dependent on them. Most provide dinners are Minimal. The Guides where Professionals and made the trips worth it. They keep this company going....they should give up!

Trafalgar is a company that DOES NOT care…

Trafalgar is not a company that cares about it's customers at all. I paid for insurance for my Italy trip and paid to upgrade my flight both ways. On my way to Italy I was downgraded by United last minute.....literally 5 minutes before boarding. We won't even get into how awful United has been during this, but I thought for sure Trafalgar would make sure everything was made right....HAHAHA.....nope! Yes, I know United only gave them a 1/4 of what I paid for, for my flight, but Trafalgar should make sure their customers are treated right after such a horrible experience during a trip. I own a business and if I have to take a slight loss to make sure my customers are taken care of then thats what it takes. I have lost THOUSANDS and Trafalgar does nothing to make it better. What an awful company and they will never see another dime from me. Not like they care tho.....too busy just trying to take everyone's money.

Date of experience : September 07, 2023

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. At Trafalgar, we value all feedback and take it seriously. We are pleased to hear that our Guest Relations Department was able to assist you in facilitating the refund from United Airlines. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the downgrade you experienced. Please note that we have no control over the airline's policies and procedures. However, we appreciate your valuable feedback. Once again, thank you for your feedback, and we look forward to serving you better in the future.

Best of Italy

Best of Italy, Best of my trips! This trip exceeded my expectations! The tourist guide, Romeo, was a 10! The hotels were very comfortable,(a couple of them luxurious, a couple of them excellent and a couple of them very good./ Food offered pretty good. Dinner in the Tuscany Hills unbelievable. Coach very comfortable and clean. I traveled with the "other " company before, the one starts with "G", and definitely Trafalgar was the best (My second tour with them).Hopefully I can make many more tours with them.

Date of experience : September 29, 2023

Just finished a Croatia and Slovenia…

Just finished a Croatia and Slovenia tour. The hotels and coach were ok BUT to really see the destinations we went to you had to take the options which are really over priced for what you get. If you don't take the options you are left at the hotel and have to make your own way. Included meals were way below par with limited choices and the meals were rushed. Would never recommend this company .

Hotels were 1 star

Hotels were 1 star. No air conditioner, old, dated, some had no stairs others were just gross. Like drink some wine and fall in bed so you don’t notice the grunge. It seemed unorganized and chaotic. Not enough variety. The included meals had no choice. We usually ended up having to pay out of pocket for meals after the free ones. The only redeeming quality was the coach driver.
