Broods are an alternative indie, electro-pop duo originating from Nelson NZ. They produce emotion-provoking records which are difficult to forget.

Georgia Nott is the predominant vocalist whilst her older brother and multi-instrumentalist Caleb Nott is on production. As teenagers, the siblings were recognized for their musical talents; in 2011, they were part of the band The Peasants who won the Smokefreerockquest music competition. After the band split in 2012, the Notts formed Broods in early 2013 and worked with the renowned producer Joel Little, before releasing their debut record ‘Bridges’ - described by MTV as “a bittersweet synth-pop echo chamber” - for digital download. Their initial single gained widespread recognition from the likes of Idolator and various other music blogs, and gained over 200K plays in its opening week. It charted at number eight in the Official New Zealand Music Chart and was selected as the US iTunes single of the week for February 2014.

Broods released the single ‘Never Gonna Change’ before the highly anticipated EP ‘Broods’ was available in January 2014 on Polydor in the UK and Europe, along with Capitol Records worldwide. The talented duo enjoyed a wealth of success in a relatively short period of time, and performed for the first time in the USA at Bardot, Hollywood and the UK at Notting Hill Arts Club, London, following the release of their E.P, before releasing their debut album ‘Evergreen’ in August 2014. It topped the New Zealand Albums Chart and prompted a nomination for the Breakthrough Artist of the Year, the People’s Choice Award and the Single of the Year at the New Zealand Music Awards 2014.

Broods have been compared to Halsey, Chvrches and Wet, and engaged with large crowds at prestigious settings such as Latitude Festival and ACL Music festival. The Kiwi duo have gained over 1.8 million views on their flagship video ‘Bridges’ on YouTube, whilst also gaining over 39,000 followers on Soundcloud. To put it simply, it’s no surprise when - like a match made in heaven - they produce such scintillating melodies that really do capture the imagination.

Live reviews

I've have been keeping up with this fairly new band since I first heard their single "Bridges," on one of my Pandora stations, a few months ago. I was instantly hooked.

Broods definitely know how to put on a show. I just wish it never ended! They played their whole album, Evergreen, as well as their self titled EP (5 songs). So of course I expected the show to go on for a total of about an hour. That was clearly more than enough time to win the crowd over and that's exactly what they did.

Georgia & Caleb have so much energy and so much love for performing and they really left it all out on the stage last night. Her voice is even more magnificent live and the way he plays is so perfect! Georgia is a great character, she was dancing, laughing and she's so sincere. It's one of the things I loved most about the show. Caleb was also being silly & showing his charming side.

I feel like no word would give the way Broods perform justice but it was simply amazing. You'll fall in love!

I absolutely fell in love with the broods when they opened for Ellie Goulding. Ever since I have simply loved all there music. The concert was beautiful, with the crowd of many strangers uniting to put our hands in the air and scream at the top of our lungs along with Georgia. At the concert I meet some amazing people with crazy stories and it felt like we had know each other for ages. We still all stay up late comparing pictures of the night on Facebook, laughing and being silly. Even them staying to sign merchandise after the show felt exiting and exillerating as we all waited in line for the people that sing our favorite songs. The songs I walk to school listening to, fall alseep listening to each day, created such a sense of warmth in my heart. It was such a fun, amazing, incredible, insperational, beautiful, wonderful night. That has made me love there music even more evrytime I hear it. Thanks BROODS!

The show was fantastic! Very refreshing in the stage set up and costuming. They played so well and she is such a great singer, her voice is amazing! The entire audience had a great time but at the end, we were all confused that the show was over! They didn't say "good night" or "thanks Toronto" or any type of closing remark. We all stood there as the lights came on and wondered what the heck? Stage hands come on and started taking things apart so we all eventually figured out that the show wasn't going to continue. Anyways, other than that confusion, we had a great time. OH, I was happy to see they sold a select amount of autographed tote bags... we got one of those. That was cool.

BROODS is an incredible band to see live! I've seen them five times and each time just keeps getting better and better. On the Don't Feed The Pop Monster Tour, they played all of their latest hits plus many of their previous jams.

Georgia is so full of energy and is a joy to watch on stage while she is dancing and singing enthusiastically. They are definite crowd pleasers and they know how to put on a fun show!

At one point, a woman jumped over the barricade and fell down on the floor. She then proceeded to attempt to climb onto the stage, but failed. Then she was escorted back to the crowd. It was the craziest thing I've seen at a concert in a while!

This is my third time seeing Broods and they never disappoint! As always, fun & playful with beautiful honesty and emotional performances. Great show! I absolutely LOVED to get to see Caleb & Georgia perform "Too Proud" with Caleb on lead vocals. Meaningful and a privilege to be a part of their first sold out concert on this tour! Thank you Broods for another moving experience! The venue was gorgeous and intimate. Fifth Arrow, restaurant downstairs fantastic!!!

Broods is on of those bands that sound great on the album but WAY better live.

The concert was amazing. They performed almost all their new songs as well as the old fan favorites.

Georgia's confidence and happiness when on stage is very contagious as well as Caleb's enthusiasm even he staying at the back pretty much the whole time.

This is a must go concert if you appreciate good alternative music and excellent live performances.

100% Recommended.

Great performance quality. Georgia is a great entertainer. However, was kind of bummed by the set list. They didn’t play their major hits from their previous albums and the ones they did choose were somewhat odd. Mainly their new album (which wasn’t my favorite album, personally). Not bangers for a concert. Set list also seemed short considering they have so many good songs on all 3 albums. Only one encore song too which was disappointing.

bggeyes21’s profile image

Georgia and Caleb and the rest of the band played their best, but the sound was awful. The bass distortion was way overbearing and masked all other sounds. What we heard was just plain noise. We were standing off center to the right of the stage about 1/2 of the way back. We could hear very little to none of Georgia's voice even though she was singing her heart out.

Same results when we walked around the venue.

Broods was amazing live! The opener was good and it was a good build up for the main show. Georgia killed it on vocals. There was a good mix of songs, some slow, some fast. They also did an acoustic session in the middle, and that was really interesting to see. The lights were great, she had a great stage performance and danced along to the music. Overall it was a great experience, I love them more than I did before.

JazzyFizzle94’s profile image

They were really incredible and you could see the energy and connection between all the members of each band and it's so nice to see that. Georgia (girl singers) had an absolutely beautiful voice and amazing stage energy and a good amount of interaction with the crowd. The venue was really stunning and had a great vibe. I would absolutely come to another show if they were to go on tour again.

Cicada Apocalypse: Map Shows Hotspots Where 1 Trillion Insects From a Rare Synchronized Emergence of Two Broods Will Appear

The US faces a cicada 'apocalypse' with over a trillion insects emerging in a rare 200-year event. Two distinct cicada broods will simultaneously surface for the first time since the 19th century, spanning multiple states.

These noisy insects, known for their 13- or 17-year hibernation cycles, will mate and lay eggs. Dr. Gene Kritsky from Mount St. Joseph University describes this dual emergence as an extraordinary once-in-a-lifetime event.

Brood X Cicadas Emerge After 17 Years Underground

Cicada Apocalypse in 16 US States

Cicadas are set to make a remarkable appearance across several states, with only Illinois and Indiana having the privilege of witnessing both broods. This convergence of broods occurs approximately 12 times every 221 years , marking the first instance since 1803 that these two broods will emerge simultaneously.

Brood XIX, last seen in 2011, is poised to reappear in multiple states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. In contrast, Brood XIII, following a 17-year cycle, last emerged in 2007 and is expected in states like Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

Comprising three different species, Brood XIX, known as the Northern Illinois Brood, contrasts with Brood XIII, or the Great Southern Brood, housing four distinct species. The emergence of Brood XIX is anticipated to commence in mid-May, primarily in Midwestern states.

Meanwhile, Brood XIII will start emerging from late April through the second week of May, reaching southern states first and gradually moving to Missouri, Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, and finally, in May, making appearances in Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Iowa by the third week.

READ ALSO: Expect Trillions of Brood X Cicada To Invade the US After Hibernation For 17 Years

Cicada Chronicles: Burrows, Lifespan, and Ecological Impact

Cicadas , belonging to the same family as stink bugs and bed bugs, reside in underground burrows for over a decade until maturation prompts their emergence. During the weeks preceding their emergence, the insects build tunnels but stay inside until soil temperatures at a depth of 7-8 inches reach around 64 degrees Fahrenheit.

What sets cicadas apart is their extended lifespan, although once above ground, their existence is fleeting, lasting merely four to six weeks for mating. Periodical cicadas, spanning 1-1.5 inches with a wingspan double that length, feature distinguishable orange veins and large red eyes.

Comprising seven species, three broods surface every 17 years, while the remaining emerge every 13 years. Some cicadas may deviate from their expected schedule, as seen in the early emergence of thousands in the year 2000.

While the insects' mating call may be bothersome, cicadas pose no threat to humans, lacking stinging or biting capabilities. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), cicadas serve as a valuable food source for birds and contribute to soil nutrition upon decomposition. However, they can potentially harm young trees if females choose to lay eggs in them. The EPA recommends protective measures like covering trees with mesh or netting featuring ¼-inch holes or smaller.

More so, Mount St. Joseph University suggests using cheesecloth to shield branches from cicadas . Importantly, cicadas do not harm flowers or fruit, solely consuming sap from trees and shrubs to sustain themselves. Pesticides are ineffective against cicadas.

Overall, cicadas offer ecological benefits by naturally aerating the soil through their emergence tunnels. The abundance of adult cicadas becomes a significant food source for various predators, positively influencing their populations, as stated by Cicada Safari.

The Eagles are officially coming to the Las Vegas Sphere: Dates and ticket details

The Eagles’ long and winding road to goodbye will go through Las Vegas this fall.

The band will become the fourth act to play the snazzy Sphere when their farewell tour, The Long Goodbye , pulls into the venue for eight dates: Sept. 20-21; Sept. 27-28; Oct. 11-12 and Oct. 18-19.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

The Eagles playing the Sphere hasn’t been the best-kept secret . In May, James Dolan, executive chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment Co., mentioned on an earnings call the Eagles would be the next act to explore the creative and visual opportunities that come with playing the nine-month-old venue.

The band, which kicked off its farewell tour in September, will follow rapturously received residencies by U2, who christened the venue last fall, Phish and, currently, Dead & Company .

The Grateful Dead offshoot band fronted by Bob Weir and including John Mayer and Mickey Hart, are in the midst of a recently expanded 30-date run that will wrap Aug. 10.

All three of the acts who have parked at the Sphere have captivated crowds with awe-inspiring visual elements – rolling video that makes the room feel as if it’s moving, band images incorporated into TV sets, walls of backstage passes that envelop the inside of the venue – projected onto the 160,000-square-foot LED screen that wraps the interior.

The Eagles , currently touring Europe, have a set list stocked with their more laid-back hits in the first half (“Take it Easy,” “One of These Nights,” “Take it To the Limit”) that builds to rollicking rockers including “Life in the Fast Lane” and “Already Gone” as the show continues.
