It is believed that she was both a princess and a noted scholar, who became a Christian at around the age of 14 and also converted hundreds of people to Christianity, and was martyred around the age of 18. Catherine was known to be a spiritual pathfinder and raise her voice against the oppression of the Christians under the rule of Roman emperor Maxentius. She was so strong and logical with her arguments that the king himself was incapable of countering them and has a then he formed a committee of 50 philosophers to debate her ideas.However, even the assembly conceded defeat in front of her and confessed Christianity as their belief. Out of anger, the king burnt the philosophers alive and sentenced st.catherine to prison. Catherine did not give up, and she was succeeded in converting not only the jailers but also the king's wife. It is believed that she showed the path of Christianity to 200 people. Even when she was facing the worse condition of her life, she continued to stretch the word of Jesus. She was honoured with the title of"patroness of the wheel-wrights" because it is believed then when she was fastened to a spiked wheel as it was mentioned in her death sentence the wheel broke and she was left uninjured. And when she was finally beheaded, it is said that angle took her remains and laid them to rest atop Mount Sinai. When you visit the Se Cathedral, you can witness the Saint Catherine ornaments, a crown portraying her royal birth and has a book in her hands, which signifies her sound knowledge as she points a spiked wheel, which reveals her martyrdom.Se Cathedral HistoryThe Cathedral is devoted to St. Catherine of Alexandria, it is said that it was built to celebrate the victory of the Portuguese ruler Alfonso Albuquerque who destroyed the Muslim army and took ownership of the city of Goa. Consequently, it is also called St. Catherine's' Cathedral. In 1953, the Cathedral was presented with "The Golden Rose" by Venerable Pope Pius XII. It was approved by Governor George Cabral to be spread in 1552 on the remains of an earlier structure. The formation of the church began in 1562. You will be filled with positivity when you will visit this sacred place.The architecture of Se Cathedral  The architecture of Se Cathedral is awe-inspiring and elegant. The architectural style is a blend of Gothic elements and typical Portuguese style, or you can say that the architecture style of the Se Cathedral is Portuguese-Manueline. There were two different techniques that were opted to make the church. The exterior was made in Tuscan style and the interior has been built in and Corinthian style. With dimensions of 250 feet long and 181 feet wide, this church has a  delightfully decorated entrance that measures around 115 feet in height. The church is amazingly decorated, yet the style is intriguing and simple. The Cathedral has been built on an elevated base of laterite, which is covered with the thick lime plaster.You can also see the bell tower which is located on the southern side of the façade. The building of the church is rectangular on the plan but has a cruciform layout in the interior. The main altar is devoted to Catherine of Alexandria, and you can also see several old paintings on either side of it. You can also see the Chapel, which is known as the Cross of Miracles, it is believed that there was an image of Christ that was said to have appeared in 1619.

Taxis in goa.

The tourist taxis at the gate are white. The official taxis of Goa are the regular yellow and black taxis, but you will find only tourist taxis (white ones) are waiting at the cruise dock. Aside from tourist taxi’s yellow and black rickshaws are also waiting at the port gate. These taxis do not have a meter. Please be sure to make a price agreement before you step into the taxi. Taxis take US dollar and Indian Rupee. Try to negotiate a taxi for no more than 80 US dollars a day. We recommend to arrange for the taxi to stay with you all day long instead of finding a car on location to go back to port. Prices underneath are what a taxi should cost. Keep in mind it all depends on the supply and demand of taxis, therefore prices could vary. 2 – 10 us dollars by rickshaw to Vasco da Gama (closest town) 20 us dollar to the beach 50 us dollars one way to Old Goa 60 – 80 us dollars full day

Public Transportation

From the port it is possible to take public transportation although we do not advise you to do so because it will not get you to any of the tourist sights and it might not be meeting your comfort level. Find the local bus stop on the square in front of the port exit. Pay the driver 3 Indian Rupee for a ticket.

Old Goa used to be the capital of the Portuguese colony. Over time the Portuguese build the largest Christian churches in South Asia here in Goa. Eventually due to mayor outbreaks of cholera the capital was moved in 1843. The churches are nowadays in bad shape but they still reveal the former glory of the Portuguese empire. That makes this town a must see for anyone that has an interest for religious architecture and Catholic history. Find Old Goa about 30 km north east of the port.

If you want to get into local life visit the local village of Margao. It is Goa’s second largest city. Visit its market to get a sense of what the local cuisine and local products are all about. Find Margao about 28 km south of the port.

This is the closest beach to the cruise terminal and it is nice! There is fancy hotel and some local shops that provide you with anything you need. Seating facilities however are limited, so make sure to bring a towel! The snorkelling here is great, although you will need to bring your own snorkel. The beach is about 15 km from port. Pay no more than 20 us dollars one way by taxi.

Close to Panji you will find one of the many fortifications dominating the Goan coastline. Fort Aguda was build in the early 1600’s to protect the entry of the rivier that would lead to Old Goa. Portuguese ships would make the long journey over from Lisbon to Goa and this would be the first place where they would receive their fresh water and welcome. Find Fort Aguda 45 km north for the port.

On the island of Chorao you will find the bird-watchers paradise Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. It is about 1,8 sq km. It is not just local and migrating bird that you will find here. You can also spot flying foxes and crocodiles. To get there take a taxi from the dock to the Ribandar ferry wharf and take the ferry across the Mandovi river to the island of Chorao. The bird sanctuary is within walkin distance from the ferry wharf. Find this bird sanctuary about 32 km north of the port.

Casino Pride is an amazing place and takes you to a different world which is beyond imagination. All of us have seen casino's on TV screens but first hand experience is really different. The casino ticket is around Rs 1500/- which includes entry valid for 24 hrs, buffet dinner, Unlimited Drinks/Snacks on the playing table and around Rs 500/- playing money. In addition, light refreshment for late night players. Once you enter the casino, you will not feel that the casino is in a cruise sailing in water. I and my friends really enjoyed it and spent almost 5-6 hours.

Actually this was unplanned in Goa tour. While crossing bridge at the time of entering Panjim, few Casino cruises were seen in Mandavi river. Out of curiosity we decided to visit the place. With 4 adults and 2 children, we parked in parking area common for Casino Pride, Deltin etc. In parking area, we were informed about Deltin Jacque and Casino pride and their vehicle took us to their center which is very near. Deltin was charging Rs. 2500 with Rs. 2000 playing coupons, while Casino Pride was charging Rs. 2000 with Rs. 1000 playing coupons. Rates are bit higher on week ends. But, on that date, Deltin was not giving entry to children for some security reasons, so we choose Casino Pride. We were taken by small boat to the Casino. First we went to third floor, where food is served along with entertainment area and children room. Food were unlimited with soft drinks, Food quality was decent. Children were strictly not allowed in casino floors, they are well taken care in their special rooms where video games, and soft drinks are available. There is also room for children for sleeping. Photography was strictly prohibited. 2 persons were asked to deleted photos who clicked it. Entertainment program was for 2 hours, where dance items were presented by a group. Second floor was reserved for special guests. First floor or ground floor was open for all. there were many tables to play. As a newbie, we were asking information on how to play, which was properly answered by the attendants. But, by using coupons there were restriction on playing, also they are not convertible in cash, you have to play it. If you are playing on table, you are served free drinks, otherwise its chargeable. There were all sorts of players - professional, regular and just visitors. Dress code and security ensured safe place for family or even single woman. It was nice experience.

I would recommend going to Deltin any day, Now they have two boats Pride 1 and Pride 2, the food and snacks served are average and it takes ages to get service.

Cramped dinner area, lack of adequate sitting, not enough variety in the buffet, slow service and no free drinks for non players make this place a not must visit place for tourists. Avoid if you can.

IT was my first visit to any casino in goa...they charge rs 2000 per person...children are free below age of 15. they are not allowed to enter in casino play area.casino has a kids zone attached with restaurent.there are ppl who take care of kids there. firstly...the casino is good with no nuisance...playing experience was good. the points where they need improvment is food...add more games in kidz play zone.... in all a must visit place to go in goa....
