Caleruega Church is one of the most famous churches in Batangas. This property is perched on the highest hill of Nasugbu Town. Caleruega is named after a Spanish municipality.

Taal Basilica’s official name is Basilica of St. Martin de Tours. It stands on top of a hill at the center of Taal Town. This basilica is huge; it is 96 meters high and 45 meters wide. It is often referred to as the largest Catholic Church in Asia. 

Taal Basilica was reconstructed several times in the 19th century. Its Baroque appearance today is attributed to architect Luciano Oliver, who redesigned the church in 1856. 

The church’s main draws are its silver tabernacle and facade, which is comparable to the one at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Taal Basilica’s 26 classical columns at the entrance are indeed an impressive sight!

Taal Basilica is a popular wedding site and a favorite destination of devotees during the Catholic Lenten season.

When you enter, the basilica’s altar size will immediately impress you. This altar is 10 meters wide, 24 meters high, and lined with Doric columns with a Jesus Christ statue at the center.

Mt. Batulao is one of the easiest Batangas mountains to trek, making it a perfect location for training climbs. 

The journey to the summit is composed of open trails and rolling slopes. The mountain summit is about 811 meters above sea level. Mt. Batulao has 12 peaks that offer panoramas of Taal Lake, Cavite, Nasugbu coastline, Maragondon mountains, Tagaytay highlands, Balayan Bay and Mt. Maculot. 

The mountain offers two main trails, called “Old Trail” and “New Trail''. The Old Trail is located in the mountain's eastern section and has 10 campsites/stations. The New Trail is on the west side of the mountain, and it features only one large campsite. 

The Evercrest Golf Course in Nasugbu is the jumpoff point to Mt. Batulao. From the golf course's entrance, you can walk or use the tricycle (local three-wheeler) to reach the start of the trails. Local guides, some of which are kids, would usually offer their services at the entrance.

3. Calatagan

Calatagan is a claw-shaped municipality comprising the entirety of the Calatagan Peninsula. The municipality is oozing with history with evidence of the land being occupied by ancient settlers during pre-colonial times. Several archeological finds were unearthed in Calatagan.

It was first constructed in 1890 and the 51 ft red and white bricked lighthouse is still in operation to this day. 4. Mt. Maculot

Mt. Maculot is a major hiking destination in the town of Cuenca . Travelers would hike up this famous attraction in a province of famous natural attractions to get a panoramic view of Taal Lake that’s directly adjacent to the mountain. Traversing up and down this 947 meters tall mountain is a challenge, especially to first-time hikers.

But the rewards are entirely worth the challenge. There are three main destination points that hikers set as their goal when climbing Mt. Maculot: The Rockies, The Summit, and The Grotto.

The Rockies is a 700-meter tall volcanic rock formation that’s said to be part of Taal Crater’s caldera rim. It’s the first and easiest destination up the mountain and provides the best view of Taal Lake.

5. Mt. Batulao

Another popular hiking trail in Batangas but not as challenging as Mt. Maculot is Mt. Batulao. The mountain is an inactive volcano located in the municipality of Nasugbu. It’s a popular hiking spot for day hikes, especially for beginners. The mountain is 693 meters tall and is mostly covered in vegetation.

Climbing up the mountain will give amazing views of the surrounding area after just a three hours climb. Beginners can hire guides from the municipality but it’s still possible and climb up the mountain independently. Although there are still some challenging but manageable trails up Mt. Batulao.

Mt. Batuloa’s name is said to come from the Tagalog words bato (rock) and dilaw (yellow) in reference to its color during sunrise.

8. Tingloy, Batangas

Tingloy is the only municipality in Batangas that is separated from the mainland located two nautical miles off the southern end of Calumpang Peninsula. Tingloy consists of the main island, Marikaban, the smaller Caban Island, and a handful of surrounding islets making it a popular place for beach hopping tours.

11. Malabrigo, Lobo

The coast of the municipality of Lobo lies the historic Malabrigo Point Lighthouse, also known as Faro de Punta Malabrigo. This historic lighthouse is one of the working lighthouses in the Philippines. It’s created in the Victorian design by the Spanish engineer, Guillermo Brockman in 1891. Construction was done by Chinese contractor Jose Garcia and was completed and was first lit in 1896.

Today, the lighthouse is one of the main landmarks of the municipality of Lobo. Its famous brick cylindrical tower and red roof still operate using more modern equipment, guiding seafarers to safer navigating through the Verde Island Passage.

Visitors of the lighthouse will be transported back in time during the Spanish era due to its architecture.

12. Mt. Gulugod Baboy

Batangas has always been a mountaineer’s province of choice for climbs with its mountainous terrain. It’s also perfect for first-time hikers and trekkers. One of the most popular mountains to climb for beginners is Mt. Gulugod Baboy, locally known as Mt. Pinagbanderahan. It’s located in the Municipality of Anilao.

To be more specific, Mt. Pinagbanderahan is a mountain range made up of verdant rolling hills. Mt. Gulugod Baboy is one of its three main peaks and is the most popular for beginner climbers. Rising to 525 meters above sea level, the peak gives a gorgeous panoramic view of the municipality.

The hike up to the peak only takes up to two hours at a normal pace with only gradual increases in slopes.

13. Caleruega Church

The Caleruega Church in Nasugbu has already been mentioned but it deserves a spot on its own on this list. Sitting atop a hill, the church doesn’t have that much history (built-in 1995) to it compared to other churches in Batangas but its popularity stems from its scenic and tranquil grounds. This makes the church a popular spot for retreats, weddings, pilgrimages, and visitors who just want peace of mind.

The most photographed landmark of the church grounds is probably the Transfiguration Chapel, the beautiful red structure with a brick tower.

Exploring the grounds will provide a tranquil experience even for the non-religious. There are several walkways, sculptures, fish ponds, and other points of worship on the grounds that visitors can come across.

14. Taal Volcano

The defining landmark of Batangas is Taal Volcano. Taal Volcano is classified as the second most active volcano in the Philippines and because of its recent eruption in January 2020, the volcano is left closed to the public.

Despite its dangerous nature, there’s no denying that the Taal volcano makes for a remarkable view. Its location near the middle of Taal Lake makes for a postcard-perfect image. Prior to the 2020 eruption, Taal volcano once held a small lake in its crater with a small islet named Vulcan Point Island.

Today, visitors can only view the volcano at a safe distance. There are several high points in and around Batangas that provide an amazing view of Taal Lake and Taal Volcano.

15. Fantasy World

Located up north in the municipality of Lemery, Fantasy World is an abandoned theme park that’s open for the public to explore. Fantasy Worlds was constructed to be the Disneyland of the Philippines but was left abandoned due to financial problems. The entire theme park is basically a huge medieval castle and a scatter of non-operational rides here and there.

There’s not much to do but visitors have often found bright spots in the abandoned theme park with great photo opportunities.

Ang tahimik na fishing island na ito ay nanatiling peaceful at hindi pa dinurumog ng tourism hanggang ngayon. May layo ito na more or less 45 minutes mula sa Batangas mainland. Konti lang ang resorts, homestays, at restaurants dito kaya halos walang turista sa rugged shores na ito. Pero hindi ibig sabihin nito na walang ma-o-offer ang island na ito.

Ang Mahabang Buhangin at Cueva Sitio ang dalawang lugar na pinupuntahan ng mga turista na ang hanap ay tahimik, rugged, at back-to-basics na beach experience. Ang jump-off point para makapunta sa Verde Island ay Batangas City: Tabangao Port (Public Boat) at Barangay Ilijan (Private Boat).

Montemaria Shrine, Batangas City

Overlooking sa Batangas Bay ang Montemaria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center. Kilala rin sa pangalan na Montemaria Shrine , ito ay isang religious sanctuary na parehong pilgrimage site at retreat venue.

Nasa complex na ito ang higanteng statue ni Mary, Mother of All Asia, na sinasabing pinakamataas na statue ni Virgin Mary sa buong mundo sa kasalukuyan. Ito rin ay tinuturing na isang city landmark at mahalagang tourist attraction sa Batangas City .

Puwede kang umakyat sa observation deck para makita ang breathtaking view ng bay at ibang islang nakapaligid, kasama na ang Verde Island, Tingloy, at ilang parte ng Oriental Mindoro.

Santo Tomas

Madaling i-dismiss ang Santo Tomas bilang isa sa mga tourist spots sa Batangas dahil puno lang ito ng industrial parks, subdivisions, at farmlands, pero marami rin itong puwedeng i-offer sa mga turista.

Pinagmamalaki ng Santo Tomas ang isa sa mga prominent historical figures ng bansa na si Miguel Malvar, kilala bilang huling Filipino general na sumuko sa mga Amerikano noong panahon ng Philippine-American War. Sa harap ng Municipal Hall ay ang Miguel Malvar Shrine and Monument na tribute para sa homegrown hero ng bayan na ito. Sa katabing building naman ay ang Malvar Library and Museum kung saan makikita ang buhay at legacy ng revolutionary general.

Isa pang key attraction dito ay ang National Shrine of Saint Padre Pio na nag-a-attract ng libo-libong bisita na karamihan ay pilgrims at deboto. Ilan sa mga makikita sa loob ng shrine complex ay ang circular main church, bell tower at Sanctuary of the Relics of St. Padre Pio.

If ever you’re in Manila , Philippines, and want to explore the places that surround it, Batangas should be the top 1 on your list. This province in the said country is very popular among tourists. It offers a lot of beautiful beach resorts , tranquil islands, and spectacular mountains.

Boasting tons of natural resources and lovely nature, Batangas is perfect for any gatherings , outings, or getaways! In this province, you can enjoy almost all outdoor activities. From hiking to scuba diving, this is truly a paradise for adventurers. So just in case you want to escape the bustle in the city but don’t want to spend so much money and time traveling so far, Batangas is just an hour away

For you to have an idea of the places that you should visit here, we listed them all for you. This guide might help you in planning your next weekend getaway in the wonderful province of Batangas.

1. Taal Volcano

Being one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines, Taal Volcano still made it to the list of places to visit in Batangas . It is popular both for local and foreign tourists. 

People love going there not only because of its scenic view, but they also want to do the activities that would bring them closer to the mountain. In Taal Volcano, you can go horseback riding, boating across the volcano island, and of course, climbing to the crater of the lake. The volcano is only 311 m (1,020 ft) climbing is not challenging at all. Plus, you can also swim at the lake but only for a limited time.

It is not so hard to understand why this active volcano is one of the tourist spots in Batangas. What’s difficult to understand is why are you still hesitating to go here? Don’t think too much, go ahead and visit this gorgeous mountain.

2. Monte Maria Shrine

A center that’s dedicated to Maria, Mother of All Asia. When you visit Monte Maria, you’ll witness the statue of the Virgin Mary that’s 98-meter tall. It was made to symbolize the Unity and Peace of the People. This statue is becoming popular with tourists and we can see why.

Monte Maria is very accessible. It is just 30-45 minutes away from Batangas City. You can either travel by road or by sea to visit it. Upon going there, you’ll be welcomed by a magnificent view of the sea. You can even have a glimpse of Verde Island Passage and Batangas Bay. 

You will also find a chapel and a restaurant within the property. Even if you’re not a devotee or a pilgrim, everyone is welcome here. 

3. Mt. Maculot

If you ask Filipino hikers, climbers, or mountaineers about Mt. Maculot, they’d probably know a lot about this mountain. Mt. Maculot is one of the most popular mountains in Batangas and the Philippines. 

The hike in Mt. Maculot is considered one of the most challenging. You’d encounter steep steps and rocks. Some trails are also rocky which requires you to exert some effort to be able to pass through them. Unfortunately, one cannot hike Mt. Maculot alone anymore, as of November 2015, guides are now required. You have to pay at least PHP 400 ($8) for 1-5 persons for the guide. 

It might be challenging to get to the summit of Mt. Maculot, but the views after that are very rewarding .

The best things that you could experience in Batangas might be here in Anilao. It’s a municipality in the said city, located just south of Manila. Known as the scuba diving capital destination in the Philippines, Anilao is one of the most popular tourist spots in the country.

Boasting beaches and resorts, it would be hard for you to choose which one would be the best. All of them offer such great experiences and awesome activities that would make your Batangas trip worthwhile. So if you’re a fan of underwater sports or just any water activities, Anilao would be the best place for you. Your Batangas trip wouldn’t be complete if you will not stay here.

5.  Caleruega Church

Want a place that would help you have the peace of mind that you need? Caleruega Church is the answer. The tranquility of the area would bring you so much peace. Caleruega’s distinctive architecture would lure you to explore more about this church. 

Please be informed that the church is located at the end of a hill. Going there will bring you closer not only to God but also to nature. This is a place surrounded by delicate flowers and trees. Because of its location and size, Caleruaga is also a place ideal for retreats, recreation, or any other outdoor activities. For couples who want a romantic and tranquil wedding, this should be one of the choices too!

6. Milea Bee Farm

Visit a small bee farm committed to the breeding of different species of bees. On the farm, you’ll see Italian Bees, Philippine Native Honey Bees, and different kinds of Philippine Native Stingless Bees. 

All tourists will be provided with a guide to see all the bees in their habitats. Milea Bee Farm offers you not only knowledge about beekeeping but also agriculture. This is a good place, to visit, learn, and relax. Friendly and accommodating staff are always there to help and guide you with your tour. This is probably going to be one of the best Batangas trips you will have.  

Laiya surely has the best beach resorts in town! Batangas as a whole is known for its beaches and resorts, and Laiya is the place that has most of the popular ones. 

Offering not only a productive and exciting vacation but Laiya’s beach resorts also feature cheap to high-end accommodation. Of course, who wouldn’t want to have a relaxing night after a day at the beach going swimming, scuba diving, or tanning? Laiya would surely satisfy your needs in any way possible. 

Some of the most popular beach resorts near Laiya are Acuatico Beach Resort & Hotel and you can take a ferry and go to the nearby town of Puerto Galera and stay at Atlantis Dive Resort Puerto Galera it’s not surprising as these two have that vacation vibe that we all crave.

Please note that these beach resorts are not necessarily located within Laiya, but they’re being marketed as a Laiya beach resorts. They’re mostly located just near the place. 

8. Verde Island / Isla Verde

If you want to reward yourself for your hard work or for everything fulfilling that you did, you should go to Isla Verde as a prize yourself. On this island in Batangas, although located just an hour away from the city, you won’t see any touch of modernity. And that is what makes it special. Going there is like an escape from the busy and occupied society. 

A real paradise that’s hidden beneath the ocean offers a unique diving experience for everyone. Different species of corals and other marine animals can be found in Isla Verde. This island is indeed for people who want to explore more than what meets the eye.  

9. Mt. Batulao

This inactive volcano in Batangas is another popular hiking destination in the country. Mt. Batulao If you’re a beginner, this is the ideal mountain to start with your first mountain climb. Within almost 3 hours, you’ll already be able to enjoy the spectacular views that surround the mountain. 

The 4/9 level of difficulty in climbing is not bad for all the people who want to try hiking. Although you may still encounter some hard trials, it is still manageable. You don’t have to worry about safety or anything as there will be a lot of friendly locals and guides that will assist you during your journey.

10. Fantasy World

It may sound creepy but this place is an abandoned amusement park. And yes, it’s a popular tourist spot in Batangas as well. But why? Simply because Fantasy World is a paradise indeed for those who want to experience a Disney-like adventure. Inside, you’ll find a very beautiful and colorful castle that would make you feel like a royal walking around it through a stunning garden. 

But why was it abandoned? This supposed-to-be amusement park was built in 2001 with the aim to rival Disney land. However, it was not completed due to financial problems. But that doesn’t stop people from going here because of the beautiful surroundings and positive energy it brings.

Although no rides or attractions are working, the Fantasy World remains a popular destination for those who love photography. The whole area is very picturesque that photographers would love to wander around here.

11. Calatagan

Another municipality in Batangas has tons of lovely beach resorts. Calatagan is now getting popular as a location for company outings and weekend getaways in the Philippines due to the availability of beaches in the area. 

If ever you’re in Batangas, you might want to include this in your itinerary. Unlike, Anilao and Laiya, Calatagan is less crowded. However, its beach resorts can rival those that are found in the two municipalities that I just mentioned.

12. Saint P a dre Pio Parish and Shrine

A sacred place for people seeking peace of mind and tranquility. Saint Padre Pio Parish and Shrine in Batangas is also a place for pilgrims and devotees. It is also a popular church to go to during “Visita Iglesia” during the Holy Week season. 

It doesn’t require visiting the church for a long time, you only need a couple of hours or maybe a minute to enjoy the calmness of the shrine. An ideal place to reflect and meditate. One can surely leave the church feeling fulfilled and peaceful.

13. Mountain of Salvation

This is where the said apparition of the Blessed Mother of Love, Peace, and Joy occurred. A lot of people claimed that going here would be a unique and sacred experience because of the different kinds of feeling it brings. 

Because of the said apparition of Mother Mary, the Mountain of Salvation became popular among devotees. The road to the Mountain is steep, some pilgrims got lost on their way to the mountain even though they have complete directions. People say it’s because of the mystical atmosphere that the place has. For a Catholic country like the Philippines, it is not surprising that this holy place is the talk of the town for how many years now. 

14. Chapel on the Hill, Don Bosco Batulao

This is a popular wedding venue in Batangas. The view from the chapel is magnificent! Given the fact that it’s located on a hill, the surroundings are all very picturesque. The chapel itself is magnificent and serene. Being one of the popular wedding destinations, newlyweds or the visitors would both enjoy every moment spent here. 

But of course, you can still go to this place even though no wedding is being held. The solemnity of the whole area is enough to enjoy a short visit to the chapel. Bring your family or friends here for a peaceful day.

15. Aquaria Water Park

Located in Calatagan, Aquaria Water Park is perfect for a family getaway. With great slides and a beautiful beach, kids and adults would surely love this place. In this park, people can enjoy island hopping, jet ski ride, snorkeling, and a huge swimming pool. The slides are also big enough that swimming would never be the same. 

You can also enjoy the best sunset view on the beach after a tiring and exciting day swimming. Indeed, Aquaria Water park is for people of all ages. For people who seek a day off far from the city.

BATANGAS: Budget Travel Guide

I was a warrior in the middle of a battle. With reliable weapons in my bag — meds, vitamins, paper napkins, and a bottle of water — I decided to go on an important journey back home. Not even the bad fever and runny nose, however, stopped a smile from slicing across my lower face when we finally passed under the arc that proudly screamed “Maligayang Pagdating sa Lalawigan ng mga Magigiting,” or, in English,  Welcome to the Land of the Valiant.

Batangas — my hometown. Even when I have a bad case of cold, I still peek out the window and try to catch a glimpse of that “statement arc.” This trip was a product of an important personal crisis. The Poor Traveler , born and raised in Batangas, was a fool for not having explored much of his province. I had been to as far as Ilocos in the north and General Santos City in the south, and had gone abroad a number of times but it was such a shame that I had not taken enough time to appreciate my home. Although a proud Batangueno, I was guilty of ignoring the familiar. I was so used to Batangas that I forgot that many of the places I pass through, the things I experience, and even the food I eat  contributed so much in making me who I am.

Even though I was supposed to be at home and getting some rest, I pushed through with probably the most important trip of my life. Combating a cold and all the nasty things that came with it, I declared that it was time to return to, well, the Land of the Valiant .

How to Get There

Batangas is only two to three hours away from Manila depending on which part of Batangas you are visiting, which part of Manila you are coming from, and how heavy the traffic is. There are airconditioned and ordinary buses to Batangas. Four of the most common destination signs you will see displayed in front of the buses are the following:

• Batangas City — most of which pass through Sto Tomas, Tanauan City and Lipa City.
• Lemery — which pass through the towns of Cuenca, Sta Teresita, Alitagtag, and Taal. Most buses also pass through Tanauan and Lipa.
• Nasugbu — may take the Silang-Aguinaldo Highway route or the Tagaytay-Sta Rosa route
• Balayan —  may also take the Silang-Aguinaldo Highway route or the Tagaytay-Sta Rosa route. Will pass through the towns of Tuy and Lian.

Here are some of the bus companies that travel to, from, and around Batangas, and where you will find their terminals here in Metro Manila:

• ALPS Bus – Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City
• CROW Bus – Espana, Sampaloc, Manila;  EDSA, Pasay City
• JAM Transit – EDSA, Quezon City; Taft, Pasay City; Cubao, Quezon City
• RRCG Bus – Pasay City
• TRITRAN Transit – EDSA-Kamias, Quezon City; Taft, Pasay City
• Batangas Starexpress – LRT-Buendia
• KL CNG Transport – Cubao, Quezon City

I only know of three van terminals in Metro Manila and these vans take passengers to Lemery — LRT-Buendia, Makati; Starmall-EDSA, Mandaluyong; and Starmall-Alabang, Muntinlupa. I know that there is one terminal at Metropoint in Pasay City that houses vans to the Batangas province but I forgot its final destination — I took a van there going to Matabungkay in Lian, once.

The closest commercial airport to Batangas is in Manila so you will still have to take the bus or shuttle if you’re coming from outside of Luzon by air. For more information, please visit the official website of Manila International Airports Authority at www.miaa.gov.ph .

Batangas City harbors an international sea port — Batangas International Port — which serves as the key port in the Southern Tagalog region. It is most popular among passengers going to and from neighboring islands of Mindoro (especially Puerto Galera) and Romblon.

Finding a Place to Stay in Batangas (Hotels, Hostels, Resorts)

If you’re touring Batangas, where to stay will certainly affect your itinerary. Not all places in Batangas have hotels or resorts, or are ideal for camping. Picking where to spend the night will dictate the flow of your trip per day.

Here are some of suggestions you might want to consider.

• If you wish to spend the night in the city, find a hotel in Lipa or Batangas City.
• If you crave an overnight stay at a resort by the beach, pick one in San Juan, Lobo, Calatagan, Nasugbu, or Lian. You might also consider one of the resorts in Anilao, Mabini.
• If you want to feel like traveling in time and experiencing how it feels to live in the Spanish era, there’s a hotel in Taal, smack in the center of the town proper just beside the town plaza, called Casa Punzalan Hotel that can give you just that.
• If you’re climbing Gulugod Baboy in Mabini or Mt. Maculot in Cuenca, you may choose to camp there.

Your choices will dictate how your itinerary will flow. Always take into consideration the accessibility and the proximity of wherever you will be staying to the other destinations you will be visiting.

Building an Itinerary

Batangas may be only a few hours away but creating an itinerary for a trip to this historic destination is no easy task. Batangas has so much to offer. Whether you’re looking for an adventure trekking the Taal Volcano or a gastronomic delight trying out the local dishes like bulalo and lomi, or an enlightening tour around its various historical sites, Batangas has something for you. The problem is that Batangas is HUGE. And it doesn’t stop there. Most of the province’s most popular and most interesting attractions stand so far away from one another. It would be a lot less difficult if you’re on a road trip, driving a private car but doing this tour using public transportation is tough and tiring. For example, if you’re main destination is the beaches of Nasugbu and you also wish to get up close and personal with the Taal Volcano or the churches of Lipa, finding your way to them is like solving a difficult puzzle considering the time.

With all the fantastic sites to visit in Batangas, a weekend is NOT enough. Unfortunately, I had only a long weekend.

This was our initial itinerary.

Day 1: STO. TOMAS, TANAUAN, TALISAY, LIPA CITY 05:30 am – ETD (Wait for bus along EDSA) 07:30 am – Malvar Museum and Library, Sto Tomas 09:35 am – Mabini Shrine, Tanauan City 11:00 am – Taal Volcano, Talisay 06:00 pm – Lipa Cathedral, Cafe de Lipa 08:30 pm – Check in at Hotel

Day 2: LIPA CITY,  ANILAO 07:00 am – Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Chuch and Casa de Segunda 09:00 am – Breakfast at Casa Rap, San Jose 11:00 am – Anilao, Mabini (Check in at Resort, Lunch, Sombrero Island) 09:00 pm – Sleep

Day 3: TAAL TOWN, CALATAGAN 08:00 am – Taal Heritage Tour (Ancestral Houses, Taal Basilica, Caysasay Chapel, Balisong) 11:00 pm – Lunch at Don Juan BBQ, Taal 02:00 pm – Cape Santiago Lighthouse, Calatagan Beaches 04:00 pm – ETD — Travel back to Manila

To give you an idea on how much you’re going to spend to make a trip across Batangas happen, here’s a breakdown of my expenses during the 3D/2N trip that encompassed Sto. Tomas, Lipa City, Batangas City, Taal Town, and Calatagan.

Note that when I did this trip, I was with a friend. You can bring this cost significantly lower if you’re part of a bigger group. As always, I have to remind you that your spending habits are different from mine so please use this breakdown as a guide only, just so you have an idea on how much to prepare.

The Poor Traveler had been to a number of places in and out of the country but this trip is probably the closest to my heart. Batangas is my hometown and this tour gave me an opportunity to learn more about the place I was born and raised in. It allowed me to explore and understand my province’s physical and cultural beauty and, ultimately, myself.

Hi! Maybe you can help me, Me and my family is about to go to Batangas this Saturday for a weekend getaway.We are backpackers only and we will just comute. Our 1st stop is at Padre Pio shrine in Sto Tomas.We are eyeing a resort in Mabini, Anilao looking at it in the internet we find it very nice and relaxing.The place is called Sea Spring resort,which i think our kids will love it. Now from Sto tomas how can we go to anilao?I hope you can help me with this. Our trip is 3 days from now. And im so stressed in planning this trip.Thank you!

I will have around 3 days to sightsee outside of my stay in Manila. I was thinking about taking a trip to Batangas. I would also like to take the hike to see the crater lake thing at Taal Volcano and was wondering if it was feasible to travel by public transportation from Manila to the volcano to Batangas? Better question, does transportation run from the volcano to the Batangas? I am not sure how to best plan this itinerary

We recommend the tour services of Taal Lake Yacht Club (TLYC).

From Manila, take the bus to Batangas and get off at Tanauan City Proper. If you’re renting a boat from Taal Lake Yacht Club, ride a jeepney to Sampaloc and get off in front of TLYC. It’s on your right side. You can also take a jeepney at Tanauan City to Talisay Town Proper.

10 Batangas Tourist Spots Perfect for Quick Getaways

Let’s explore these destinations in Batangas and discover what makes them so special. From Lipa tourist spot to Nasugbu and more, here are the best pasyalan sa Batangas.

1.  Fortune Island

Located in Nasugbu, Batangas, Fortune Island is surrounded by crystal waters and an unobstructed view of the sea. Fortune Island is a popular Batangas tourist spot because of its iconic Grecian pillar ruins, giving the Santorini Batangas vibe. While the area does not have electricity, you can still enjoy tons of activities like swimming, cliff diving, and camping. If you don’t want to camp here, there are many beach resorts near Fortune Island that you can stay at like the Canyon Cove Batangas, Monte Maria Batangas, and ZEN Rooms.

2.  Laiya Beach

Another Batangas tourist spot that is very popular for city dwellers is Laiya Beach in San Juan Batangas. It is most frequented by tourists because of its white sand beach and fun water sports activities. Laiya Beach’s coast is lined up with a mix of bars and restaurants, budget, and luxury hotels. The only downside is that Laiya Beach can get pretty crowded especially on weekends. But overall, this Batangas tourist spot is a perfect vacation destination for family and friends.

If you fancy all things underwater, you’ll be jumping at joy when you see Anilao. It is one of the most famous diving spots in the Philippines because of its amazing colorful coral reefs and fishes you thought only to exist in fantasy books. Anilao’s underwater world is definitely a must-see. Some Anilao Batangas tourist spots perfect for diving are Eagle Point, Bahura, Secret Garden, Twin Rocks, and Ligpo Cave.

4.  Masasa Beach

Located in the southern part of Tingloy, Batangas, Masasa Beach has become a favorite weekend destination of city dwellers looking for off-the-beaten tracks. This Batangas tourist spot offers a quiet and calming ambiance with its long stretch of stunning beach and clear waters perfect for swimming.

5.  Matabungkay Beach

Matagbungkay Beach has been a favorite quick getaway destination since its glory days in the ‘50s. Since then, what was once a small fishing village turned into a popular tourism destination for weekend travelers. The place is adorned with a long stretch of stunning beach enough to take your mind away from the busy city. You can also find Matabungkay beach resorts nearby that won’t let you break the bank.

6.  Sepoc Beach

While there are many cool Lipa tourist spots and San Juan Batangas attractions, the town of Tingloy is full of gems that every beach lover would definitely go for! 8. Mt. Batulao

This mountain is beginner-friendly as it’s easier to hike than other mountains. But it’s not all boring though. Mt. Batulao in Batangas Philippines gives hikers a decent challenge and extremely scenic trails of rolling slopes and green grasslands. Before reaching the summit, you will have to pass through several mini-peaks which takes roughly four hours to arrive. For hikers in it for the stunning views and wanting to take their time, there are campsites along the trail to relax and spend the night. You see, Batangas tourism is not just about beaches.

9.  Malabrigo Lighthouse

Located in Lobo Batangas, Malabrigo Lighthouse is one of the two lighthouses in the province constructed in 1891 to guide seafaring vessels voyaging through the eastern side of the Verde Island Passage and Tayabas Bay.

Also known as Faro de Punta Malabrigo or simply  parola  to the locals, this historic lighthouse has stood the test of time and is still in use with updated solar-powered lamps. This Lobo Batangas tourist spot has also been declared a National Historical Landmark in 2006 by the National Historical Commission.

10.  Cape Santiago Lighthouse

One of the 24 lighthouses that were built during the Spanish era along with the Malabrigo Lighthouse, Cape Santiago Lighthouse held an important role in the maritime history of the Philippines, making it among the most historical places in Batangas. Built in 1887, it is the oldest working lighthouse in Batangas and one of the oldest working lighthouses in the country.
