The Disney Skyliner (Resorts, Hours, and Travel Times with 2024 Updates)

Disney’s Skyliner service is a game-changer regarding transportation at Walt Disney World . Whether taking a ride for enjoyment or traveling to a specific destination, you’ll likely want to use the Skyliner during your next vacation.

This article discusses Disney’s Skyliner in detail. We’ll go over the hours of operation for the Skyliner and preview travel times between the gondola stations. Additionally, we’ll look at which resorts offer Skyliner access.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to say how long you’ll have to wait in line to board the Skyliner. It depends on various factors.

For example, you’ll likely encounter a long line if you are headed to the parks right before they open. The same goes for the evening after the park closes.

So while we can’t provide a wait time for the Skyliner, we can give you an idea of the average travel time between your location and destination.

disney skyliner travel time

Before we delve deep into the specifics of the Skyliner, I want to share my initial experience to prepare you. A few years ago, when the Skyliner debuted, I was excited to try it out. But when we took off, I was more nervous than anticipated.

Those nerves wore off quickly. Almost immediately, I found myself overwhelmed by the stunning aerial views of the surrounding Disney Resort Hotels .

For a long time, I felt that same sense of overwhelm every time I rode the Skyliner. It seemed like the newness would never wear off.

So a while ago, when my son was visiting, we took the Skyliner from Hollywood Studios to Caribbean Beach. When we took off, he mentioned how it still made him nervous.

At that time, I smiled and realized I had finally gotten used to riding it. So even though it took a while, the Skyliner has finally become the norm.

Disney Skyliner Resorts

Guests staying at the following Disney World Resorts will have immediate access to a Disney Skyliner station.

  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort
  • Pop Century Resort
  • Art of Animation Resort

Additionally, guests staying in the Epcot Resorts Area around Crescent Lake are within walking distance of the Epcot Skyliner station and Hollywood Studios Skyliner station.

One station sits outside the International Gateway entrance to Epcot. The other sits at the entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Those hotels are the following:

  • Disney’s Beach Club Resort
  • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
  • Disney’s Boardwalk Inn
  • Swan and Dolphin Resort

Skyliner at Caribbean Beach

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is home to the central gondola station for the Disney Skyliner system. You can think of Caribbean Beach as the Skyliner’s main hub. All of the gondola lines eventually lead back to it.

disney skyliner travel time

Caribbean Beach is the only station that will take you directly to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Once you board a gondola from this location, you won’t have to exit until you’ve reached either location.

Guests coming from Pop Century, Art of Animation, and Riviera will have to disembark their gondola when they reach Caribbean Beach. From there, you’ll have to board a new gondola car to either Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Epcot.

The only exception is guests of Disney’s Riviera Resort can join a direct line to Epcot from their resort. They will only travel to Caribbean Beach when traveling to Hollywood Studios or another resort.

When you leave Disney’s Caribbean Beach for Epcot, you will drop back down and cycle through the Riviera Resort’s station. However, you remain on board as you proceed to Epcot.

Of course, you can disembark at Riviera if you are visiting the resort. When the Skyliner’s doors open during the drop-down, a cast member will ask if anyone wants off for Riviera.

After the doors close, they will reopen again around the corner. At this point, guests headed to Epcot from the Riviera might join your gondola.

From Caribbean Beach, the Skyliner travels to the following locations:

  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Riviera Resort

The most important thing to be aware of is that three lines feed into Caribbean Beach. Therefore, anyone coming into this central hub at Caribbean Beach must disembark their gondola cabin. Then they will join the line for their next destination.

That is unless Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is your destination.

Skyliner at Riviera

As mentioned, Disney’s Riviera Resort offers a direct Skyliner line to Epcot. So when you leave Riviera, your initial destination options are Epcot or Caribbean Beach.

As you approach the Skyliner from the Riviera, the line on the resort side goes to Caribbean Beach. If you’re going to Epcot, you’ll walk around to the opposite side of the station. (You can quickly get on the wrong line if you aren’t paying attention.)

On the way to Epcot, you’ll encounter a turn station above the Buena Vista Drive and Epcot Resorts Blvd intersection. Here the gondola will slow as it approaches the turnaround. Then you’ll go through an area where it changes direction.

Shortly after, you’ll drop down over the France Pavilion and arrive at Epcot’s International Gateway. From here, you can enter Epcot or visit the resorts in the surrounding area.

disney skyliner travel time

Guests traveling from Disney’s Riviera to Hollywood Studios will board a gondola from the resort to Caribbean Beach. At Caribbean Beach, you’ll exit and join the line for Hollywood Studios.

Additionally, you can walk between the Skyliner stations at Caribbean Beach and Riviera. However, it is a reasonably long walk between them.

Skyliner at Pop Century and Art of Animation

Guests staying at Disney’s Pop Century or Art of Animation Resorts will find a similar experience. These resorts share a Skyliner station. It sits on the bridge across Hour Glass Lake .

Skyliner guests will travel to Caribbean Beach’s central station from these resorts. From there, they will depart their gondola and get in line for Epcot or Hollywood Studios.

The main difference is that there’s no option to walk to Disney’s Caribbean Beach station from either of these Disney value resorts . So while they are relatively close, no walkway connects them.

It takes approximately five minutes to travel between Pop Century or Art of Animation to Disney’s Caribbean Beach. Here’s a look at the station.

disney skyliner travel time

When staying at Pop Century or Art of Animation, know you’ll always have to get off at Caribbean Beach. Then you’ll get in line for your next destination.

Also, remember that both resorts share one line to board the Skyliner gondolas. So if you’re headed out at the park opening, be prepared to wait in a long line.

Occasionally, you might encounter a sign that indicates an additional bus service is running. For example, the sign below states, “Due to high demand for Disney Skyliner, direct bus service is available to/from Epcot and to/from Disney’s Hollywood Studios for your convenience.”

disney skyliner travel time

However, bus service to and from these specific parks and resorts is only available when there is an issue. Lines for the Skyliner tend to move fairly quickly since guests are constantly boarding.

Skyliner Hours

Disney’s Skyliner hours typically correlate with the operating hours of the theme parks. Usually, the Skyliner begins running one hour before the park opens and an hour or so after the park closes.

That time typically includes the early morning benefit extended to resort guests. So, if the park opens at 8:30 a.m., resort guests can enter as early as 8:00 a.m. In that instance, the Skyliner would start running by at least 7:00 a.m.

Hours are posted outside the various Skyliner stations at the parks and resorts. As you can see, the signs have interchangeable elements. So, you might want to take a photo of the hours at the beginning of your vacation for reference.

Per Disney, the Disney Skyliner is “available each day one hour before early theme park entry begins . It closes each day 90 minutes after Epcot or Hollywood Studios closes. Additionally, on evenings when Epcot or Disney’s Hollywood Studios stay opens for extended evening hour benefits, the Skyliner will close one hour after the park closes.

disney skyliner travel time

Here is a photo of the hours posted at Pop Century and Art of Animation during the Spring.

disney skyliner travel time

Additionally, the Skyliner runs late enough to accommodate guests who have access to extended evening hours. However, if the Skyliner closes early, buses will be available to take you back to your resort.

disney skyliner travel time

What happens if the Skyliner goes down?

It is not uncommon for the Skyliner to close, especially in the summer during inclement weather. When this happens, bus transportation will be provided to the various Skyliner Resorts.

For example, we were at Epcot one evening, and the Skyliner was down when we got to the International Gateway. It was only a few minutes before the park closed for the evening.

Cast members at the exit directed us to walk or take a boat to Disney’s Boardwalk. From there, a bus picked us up at the Boardwalk bus stop and returned us to the resort.

Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long for a bus. But that bus went to Pop Century and Art of Animation before going to Caribbean Beach. After that, it dropped off guests at Disney’s Riviera Resort. So it took some time.

On another visit, we were directed to walk to Disney’s Beach Club and catch a bus at their bus stop. Unfortunately, we had to wait almost 30 minutes for a bus to arrive this time.

So, my best advice is to remain patient when things like this happen. If you’re in a hurry to return, you might prefer to take a car service from that resort to where you’re staying.

As with all Disney transportation, it’s provided to guests at no extra cost. So you are at their mercy when you elect to use it.

I’m not saying this to make you nervous. Instead, I hope if you read this review and a similar situation happens, you’ll at least know your options.

Skyliner Travel Times

While wait times for the Skyliner can vary depending on how many guests are waiting, travel times are usually fairly consistent.

disney skyliner travel time

Here are the approximate travel times for each route:

  • Between Epcot and Disney’s Riviera Resort (10 minutes)
  • Riviera to Caribbean Beach (5 minutes)
  • Caribbean Beach to Art of Animation and Pop Century (4 minutes)
  • Between Caribbean Beach and Hollywood Studios (8 minutes)

If you would like a little more data, on one afternoon, I left Epcot and traveled to Art of Animation via the Skyliner. Here’s how that experience went:

  • At 5:27 p.m., I boarded a gondola from Epcot.
  • The doors opened at Riviera Resort at 5:37 p.m. (10 minutes)
  • Exited the Skyliner at Caribbean Beach at 5:42 p.m. (5 minutes)
  • Boarded from Caribbean Beach to the Values at 5:43 p.m. (1 minute)
  • Arrived at Art of Animation (and Pop Century) at 5:47 p.m. (4 minutes)

It took approximately 20 minutes to leave Epcot and arrive at the values. For comparison, I timed the same route back to see if there were any variances.

  • Boarded the Skyliner from Art of Animation at 6:31 p.m.
  • Arrived and exited Caribbean Beach at 6:35 p.m. (4 minutes)
  • Boarded new gondola at 6:35 p.m. (1 minute)
  • Went through Riviera at 6:39 p.m. (4 minutes)
  • Arrived at Epcot at 6:48 p.m. (9 minutes)

That time around, my timing was a record 18 minutes. So I don’t think you’ll do better than that. But you are more than welcome to try.

Although already mentioned, I think it’s important to reiterate that you will likely encounter long lines to board the Skyliner at certain times of the day-especially within two hours of the park opening and immediately around the park closing.

You do not have to exit the park at soon as it closes. Guests will still be lingering in lines and at dining locations. So take your time leaving. Had you rather stand in a long line for 30 minutes or sit on a bench enjoying the park while the crowds clear?

A few times, I’ve had to wait for the Skyliner longer than I would have liked. For example, on my last stay at Caribbean Beach, I waited over 15 minutes in a line that didn’t move.

This stay was in the Aruba section of Caribbean Beach, which is close to the Riviera Skyliner station. Therefore, I used the Riviera station when traveling to Epcot.

The problem is that many guests are coming from the Caribbean Beach station to Epcot. These gondolas are often full when they drop into the Riviera station. So the doors open, and there isn’t enough room for other guests to board.

In the meantime, Riviera’s line for Epcot begins to build since there aren’t any empty gondolas coming from Caribbean Beach.

Now, this isn’t an issue all of the time. But if you are trying to get to a park at opening, you’ll more than likely run into this same issue.

Riding the Skyliner

Before we wrap things up, I wanted to provide you with a walk-through of what it’s like to ride the Disney Skyliner. So if you haven’t ridden before, you’ll be prepared.

As you approach the Skyliner, a cast member will direct you to stand on a specific marker. The gondolas move slowly through the loading area but do not stop.

disney skyliner travel time

So when it’s time to board, it’s time to board.

You’ll step into the gondola and keep moving to your seat. If you are anything like me, you’ll want to sit facing forward in the direction you are headed.

disney skyliner travel time

A maximum of 10 guests can fit inside a standard Skyliner cabin. That’s five guests on each row. Additionally, a maximum of 6 guests are allowed in accessible cabins.

disney skyliner travel time

A note for guests in wheelchairs or ECVs…

Mobility aids must fit within a 30″ x 48″ area for access. A separate line is available for guests with mobility aids, as shown in the photo below. These gondolas will pause for guests and their families to load.

*Details for those with mobility issues (i.e., wheelchair, ECVs) can be found on Disney’s site.

disney skyliner travel time

While you’re waiting to take off, it will appear that the gondola ahead of you has gotten relatively far away. At that point, your gondola will take flight.

disney skyliner travel time

Initially, you’ll experience a rocking motion as your gondola ascends. Then, before you know it, you’ll find yourself above everything else.

disney skyliner travel time

These views of Disney are unlike anything you’ve seen before. In the distance, you’ll see various landmarks like the Swan and Dolphin Hotel and the Hollywood Studios Tower of Terror.

Below is a photo of Caribbean Cay, the island at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

You’ll pass others traveling in the opposite direction.

An audio recording plays in the background inside the gondola, pointing out various landmarks.

An emergency kit is secured underneath the seat of the gondola. Hopefully, you won’t ever have any use for it.

As you descend at the International Gateway , you’ll be able to see the newer expansion of Epcot’s France Pavilion. This is where Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is located.

Final Thoughts on the Disney Skyliner

Disney’s Skyliner is a game changer for anyone staying at the resorts that offer the service. After riding it a time or two, you’ll get a feel of how it all works. Before you know it, you’ll be a seasoned pro.

Don’t hesitate to use it if you’re not staying at one of the Skyliner Resorts. Disney transportation is available to all guests at Walt Disney World.

Often, we’ll hop on the Skyliner to do a little resort-hopping just for the fun of it. One of our favorite times to ride the Skyliner is around sunset when the views are astounding.

Some will take the Skyliner between Hollywood Studios and Epcot as a means for park-hopping. You’ll want to make sure you have a park hopper ticket for entry to both parks.

However, you can walk or boat between the two parks as well.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to learn your way around Disney as much as possible before your vacation. It’s a good idea to make a list on your phone of all the transportation options available at your resort and where they’ll take you.

It would be frustrating to stay somewhere like Port Orleans French Quarter and not know that boat transportation to Disney Springs is available.

Related: Disney Springs Transportation Guide

And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at Disney’s Beach Club’s bus stop when someone walks up looking for the bus to Epcot. The walk to Epcot from the Beach Club is less than five minutes. There is no bus.

Don’t get me started about the monorail debacles I witness regularly. No, the resort monorail you’ve ridden around the same Magic Kingdom loop at least twice is not on its way to Epcot. Instead, you have to exit and catch a different monorail for Epcot.

Related: Disney World Monorail Guide

But I get it. A trip to Disney World can be overwhelming.

Visitors who aren’t practiced or adequately informed of their transportation options before visiting can easily waste valuable touring time.

Please don’t be one of them!

What are your thoughts on the Disney Skyliner? Have you had the opportunity to take it yet? We would love to hear your thoughts on riding it or what you anticipate. Are you staying at one of the Skyliner Resorts?

' src=

Hi, I'm Amber the owner of Resorts Gal. We have stayed at every single Disney Resort Hotel. Our philosophy? We believe you can have an incredible time at the resorts without ever setting foot in a theme park. We live near the parks and visit weekly and would love for you to follow along.

Staying at the Caribbean Beach we love the convenience of the Skyliner. It is so much better than taking a bus!! However, I question the reliability during bad weather. On 8-2-2022 a severe thunderstorm moved into the area with warnings for 30+ minutes before it hit. The Skyliner shut down, leaving at least 3 buses of CB guests standing for 40+ minutes in the rain at Hollywood Studios.( Yes, there are covers at HS but there is a gap between then and rain was pouring in sideways. ) Disney seemed very unprepared with the shut down of the Skyliner for severe weather which was surprising. I will definitely rethink depending on the Skyliner of bad weather is predicted.

It was quite the storm, wasn’t it? The week before last, multiple buses were waiting at the Beach Club during a storm for guests leaving via the International Gateway who couldn’t take the Skyliner. It seems to be very hit-or-miss with the buses right now. I tend to rely on my car as much as possible, but not everyone has that option.

Guide to Using the Disney Skyliner – Routes, Hours & Tips

Nothing compares to the magic of the Walt Disney World attractions – and the steep price of admission just to experience them. But believe it or not, there’s one can’t-miss ride at Disney World that doesn’t require a pricey park ticket: the Disney Skyliner!

This complimentary transportation offering is a convenient and undeniably fun way to get around the massive Central Florida resort and a must for any Walt Disney World vacation. However, it can also be kind of confusing (and temperamental, too). Keep reading for everything you need to know about this high-flying transport, including the route, Skyliner stations, operating hours and more.

The Skyliner, Disney World’s Most Magical Transportation Offering

The Monorail isn’t the only “highway in the sky” at the Walt Disney World Resort anymore. Open since September 2019, the Disney Skyliner sends guests soaring around the Hollywood Studios and Epcot Resort Area in colorful, character-inspired aerial gondolas.

Can you ride the Disney Skyliner for free?

Yes! As with Disney World’s other primary transportation options – including the Monorail, bus system and water taxis ( Minnie Vans not included) – there is no cost to ride the Disney Skyliner.

Skyliner Hub surrounded by water

Can anyone ride the Disney Skyliner?

Sure can! While these aerial gondolas can be an easy way to get to and from Epcot, Hollywood Studios and the Disney Skyliner resorts, you don’t need to be a hotel guest or even be going to the theme parks to give this transportation offering a try.

Whether you’re resort hopping or just heading for dinner at one of the hotel restaurants , the Skyliner makes a unique way to soak up some pixie dust and get from Point A to Point B without forking over a fortune for tickets.

Where does the Disney Skyliner go?

Sadly, you can’t use the Skyliner to get around all of Walt Disney World Resort. So, as much as we’d like to hop on a Disney-fied gondola to Magic Kingdom, that’s not possible. Instead, the Skyliner connects Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot theme parks with four Disney World hotels : Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Riviera Resort.

What is a ride like on Disney’s Skyliner?

From the moment you step into your aerial gondola until the time you get off, the Skyliner offers a leisurely ride above Walt Disney World, with bird’s-eye views and just enough excitement to keep things interesting. Decked out in vibrant hues, Skyliner gondolas are filled with character. Disney characters, that is!

Red and yellow Skyliner cabs

Many gondolas feature appearances by some of your favorite Disney pals, from classics like Mickey and the gang and Star Wars characters to newer friends from the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy and Moana . If you’re anything like us, you’re sure to get a kick out of the different designs that pass by while waiting for your turn.

Just keep in mind that while they’re certainly cute, these designs also obstruct the view a bit from inside the gondola. For the clearest views of the resort beyond, don’t hesitate to ask a cast member for character-free car.

Inside, the gondolas are outfitted with two wooden benches with enough room for up to 10 people (six if you’re on a gondola with a wheelchair). While there isn’t any air-conditioning, reflective panels on the outside and cross-ventilation windows help to keep things comfortable. Each gondola also has its own onboard audio with narration specific to your destination.

Like the Haunted Mansion’s Doom Buggies, gondolas don’t stop during loading or unloading unless you are riding with a wheelchair or other assistive device. Just walk right in, sit down and enjoy the ride. From there, you’re off to your destination.

For the most part, it’s smooth sailing though things can get a little bumpy when taking turns, coming in for a landing or during rough weather. So, keep this in mind if you’re prone to motion sickness. For an easy ride with as little turbulence as possible, make sure occupants are distributed evenly between the benches to make sure the gondola stays balanced.

As long as you’re mindful (and aren’t claustrophobic or afraid of heights), you’re sure to have a memorable journey and some unbeatable views of the resort. In fact, if you time your flight right, you can even catch the Epcot fireworks glittering over the park at the end of the night.

Is the Disney Skyliner faster than a bus?

Once you’re in your gondola, your actual travel time should be considerably less than what you’d spend taking one of the Disney buses, with most trips taking less than 10 minutes. Yes, the wait can get long at times, particularly in the mornings, but the line tends to move pretty quickly since the Skyliner doesn’t stop to load and unload.

Can you ride the Skyliner just for fun?

Absolutely! While it’s meant to get you between the theme parks and Disney Skyliner resorts, we know we aren’t the only ones who have ridden this delightful transportation option just for the heck of it. Offering up sweeping views of the resort with just a touch of excitement, the Skyliner at Disney World is both fun and functional and more than worth the price of admission – free!

Kids and adults alike will love scoping out the views of Disney below, whether you’re heading out for a fun-filled day in the theme parks, getting in some resort hopping , embarking on a self-led Skyliner food tour , dining at one of the hotel restaurants or simply soaking up the scenery and enjoying the ride.

Is the Disney Skyliner worth it?

Most definitely! For the incredibly reasonable price of absolutely free, the Disney Skyliner gets you where you want to go quickly, easily and with just a sprinkling of pixie dust and pizzazz. Sure, the lines can get long in the AM, but with everyone heading to the parks all once, that’s the same with any form of Disney transportation.

Luckily, the lines tend to move pretty speedily, and the ride itself is shorter in comparison. All in all, between the great views, adorable gondolas, relative privacy, minimal ride times and general uniqueness of it all, the Disney Skyliner is certainly more memorable than taking a bus and well worth the wait.

Skyliner cabs in the air

The only guests who should think twice before hopping aboard are those with a fear of enclosed spaces or heights. If you’re unsure whether the Skyliner is a good fit for you and your crew, consider watching videos on YouTube to get an idea of what you’re in for.

Taking the Disney Skyliner: Routes, Stops, Hours and More

Ready to take flight? Here are some things you should know before using the Disney Skyliner:

Disney Skyliner Stops & Routes

Like the Monorail, Disney’s Skyliner only serves a section of the Walt Disney World Resort. Guests can get on at one of five Skyliner stations, two at Epcot and Hollywood Studios and three at neighboring hotels.

Disney Skyliner Resorts

Four different Disney World hotels offer direct access to the Skyliner, with each touting (or sharing) its own station. They include:

  • Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
  • Disney’s Pop Century Resort
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort

But, these aren’t the only places to stay near this high-flying transportation option. The Epcot Skyliner station located at the International Gateway entrance near World Showcase is also just a short walk from Disney’s BoardWalk and the Epcot-area resorts, including:

  • Disney’s Beach Club Resort
  • Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
  • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
  • Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels
  • Walt Disney World Swan Reserve

Disney Skyliner Routes & Travel Times

Skyliner Transport gondolas over teal and blue rooftops

When taking the Skyliner, you’ll need to decide which station to hop on at – and sometimes, the most obvious choice isn’t always the correct one. Each of the five Skyliner stops is unique, reflecting the design of its anchoring hotel or theme park, from the Art Nouveau stylings of Epcot’s International Gateway station to the fresh pastels and tropical touches of the hub at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort to the bright colors and whimsy of the shared Disney Skyliner station for Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.

The Caribbean Beach Resort serves as the central hub station for the Disney Skyliner’s three service routes to Epcot, Hollywood Studios and the Pop Century and Art of Animation Resorts. Similar to the Transportation and Ticket Center for the Magic Kingdom and Epcot Monorails, guests need to transfer here to a different gondola to reach their destination.

The station is located just across the lake from the resort’s Trinidad section. However, guests staying in the Aruba neighborhood may prefer to use Disney’s Riviera Resort station instead due to its closer proximity. Similarly, if heading to Hollywood Studios, Art of Animation or Pop Century, Riviera Resort guests may wish to walk to the Caribbean Beach station instead to avoid an unnecessary transfer.

So, how long is a trip on the Disney Skyliner? It depends on where you’re going to and coming from. (Please note that the following ride times are estimates only and do not include time spent transferring routes at Caribbean Beach or waiting in line.)

From the Art of Animation and Pop Century Skyliner Station to:

  • Caribbean Beach Resort – 5-6 minutes
  • Riviera Resort – 8-9 minutes
  • Hollywood Studios – 10-11 minutes
  • Epcot – 18-20 minutes

From the Caribbean Beach Skyliner Station to:

  • Riviera Resort – 3-4 minutes
  • Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts – 5-6 minutes
  • Hollywood Studios – 5-6 minutes
  • Epcot – 10-15 minutes

From the Riviera Skyliner Station to:

  • Caribbean Beach Resort – 3-4 minutes
  • Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts – 8-9 minutes
  • Hollywood Studios – 8-9 minutes
  • Epcot – 7-10 minutes

From the Hollywood Studios Skyliner Station to:

  • Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts – 15-20 minutes
  • Epcot – 15-20 minutes

From the Epcot Skyliner Station at International Gateway to:

  • Riviera Resort – 7-10 minutes
  • Caribbean Beach Resort – 10-15 minutes
  • Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts – 10-12 minutes
  • Hollywood Studios  – 15-20 minutes

What are the Disney Skyliner Hours?

Disney Skyliner hours depend on the park hours for Epcot and Hollywood Studios . Typically, Skyliner gondolas start running around 60-90 minutes before park open, around 7:30-9:00 AM, and continue operating until about 60-90 minutes after the park close, around 10:00-11:00 PM.

For the most up-to-date schedule, talk to a front desk or concierge cast member at your Disney World hotel or check the signage on site. However, remember that in the event of inclement weather, the Skyliner will temporarily shut down until it’s safe to resume operations.

Skyliner Poster with Orange, Blue, and Green Gondolas

Skyliner Wait Times

Wait times for the Disney Skyliner also vary greatly depending on the time of day or even the season you travel. As gondolas are constantly loading, it isn’t unusual to be in your character-bedecked chariot and on your way in 10 minutes or less.

That being said, during the early morning rush to rope drop or on your way back to your room at the end of the night, don’t be surprised if wait times for the Skyliner climb to 45 minutes. Never fear – there are a couple of ways to avoid the rush!

If you’re hoping to use this highway in the sky for rope drop (which is really one of the only times we recommend you don’t), try to be in line at the Caribbean Beach station between 30 to 45 minutes prior to the Skyliner’s start time for that day. Of course, if you’re coming from another resort, plan to arrive even earlier to account for your travel time to Caribbean Beach and transfer.

Ultimately, the best way to make sure you’re at the front for rope drop at either Epcot or Hollywood Studios is to book a room at one of the Disney BoardWalk-area hotels and walk it. Not only will you wind up saving a lot of time waiting, but you’ll also get in a bit of a workout . In fact, clocking in at around 20 minutes from Epcot’s International Gateway to Hollywood Studios’ park entrance, walking is typically quicker than the Disney Skyliner when you add in the time spent in line.

Want to take the Skyliner home at the end of the night? We don’t blame you! It’s a downright beautiful time to ride. Unfortunately, everyone else leaving the Skyliner parks have the same idea. Rather than joining the masses, wait it out in the theme parks with some souvenir shopping or meander over to the BoardWalk for a drink for 20 to 30 minutes to let the lines clear out.

Finally, for those staying at one of the Disney Skyliner resorts, be aware that the Skyliner may sometimes be your only transportation option heading to Epcot or Hollywood Studios. This is because Disney buses between those hotels and parks are often suspended or greatly reduced when the Skyliner is running.

Inclement Weather and the Disney Gondola

While the Disney Skyliner does continue to operate in the event of rain, lightning in the area or high winds will temporarily suspend operations until the bath weather recedes. During inclement weather, signs are updated with the temporary closure and buses begin operating in place of the Skyliner. Signage is placed around the Disney resort hotels directing guests where to go and, if needed, a temporary queue is created for the park buses.

Items Allowed on the Disney World Skyliner

All set for your ride? Here’s what you can and can’t bring with you on the Skyliner:

Can you take food on the Disney Skyliner?

Yes! Whether it’s a morning coffee or late-night snack, you’re more than welcome to bring food and drinks, as long as they have a lid, on the Disney Skyliner. The only beverages not permitted are those with booze , so be sure to finish off your drink from the pool bar before you get on.

Are strollers allowed on the Disney Skyliner?

Yup! Strollers are more than welcome on the Disney Skyliner – as long as they fit Disney’s requirements and fit through the gondola opening. The opening for each Disney gondola is 30 inches wide. This is more than enough space for a single or tandem stroller to roll right on through with your kiddo still in it. However, side-by-side double strollers are too wide and must be folded shut on the platform prior to boarding.

Can you take a wheelchair or scooter on the Disney Skyliner?

We’re pleased to say that guests who require a wheelchair or ECV to get around don’t have to miss out on the Disney Skyliner. Accessible accommodations are provided for guests with mobility needs, including a dedicated loading zone where gondolas stop completely for safe loading and unloading. Disney gondolas with a wheelchair or scooter accommodate six guests rather than 10.

What is the Disney Skyliner?

Cute, practical, and free, the Skyliner is a gondola system used for transportation at Walt Disney World.

With bright colors (and even favorite Disney characters!), the gondola cars soar above the trees to connect 4 Disney resort hotels and 2 parks together, making access across the Walt Disney World Resort easier than ever.

Where does the Disney Skyliner go?

The Skyliner connects 4 resorts ( Pop Century , Caribbean Beach , Art of Animation , Riviera ) and 2 parks (Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios).

Disney Skyliner Map

You can see how all the resorts, stations, and parks fit together on this Skyliner map.

Notice how Caribbean Beach Resort serves as a hub for all 3 lines?

map of disney skyliner

That is important to know because depending on where you are going and coming from, you’ll likely have to transfer there.

But, although that may sound complicated, it truly isn’t. We go over it in more detail in the video below.

Disney Skyliner Stations

There are 5 gondola stations, 3 at Disney resort hotels and 2 at theme parks:

  • Disney’s Art of Animation Resort (station shared with Pop Century)
  • Disney’s Pop Century Resort (station shared with Art of Animation)
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort (this station is the “hub” where all the lines meet. This is where you transfer to go to either Epcot or Hollywood Studios)
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort (this station is also close to the Aruba section of Caribbean Beach)

Disney World Skyliner

  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios (front of the park)
  • Epcot (at the International Gateway, which provides easy access to the World Showcase)

In addition, the Epcot station puts you within a short walk to the Boardwalk entertainment district where you’ll find lots of restaurants and things to do.

Important note: You can’t get to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, or Disney Springs from the Disney Skyliner. If those are your destinations, you’ll need to use another mode of Disney transportation .

Epcot International Gateway Skyliner station

In true Disney fashion, these stations are very well themed and reflect the aesthetics of their location.

They fit right in and look fantastic!

What are the closest hotel rooms to the Walt Disney World Skyliner gondolas?

If you are staying at a resort with a station and want to have a room close to the Skyliner, make these requests:

Caribbean Beach Note: Caribbean Beach does have an internal bus system so even though these rooms are further away from the main building, you’ll have easy access back to the front when you need it.

  • Trinidad (Pirate Rooms)
  • Aruba (access via the Riviera station)

Disney Skyliner

Pop Century Note: There is no internal bus system here so the downside will be that you’ll be further away from the main building and bus stop.

  • Request a Water View

  • Book a Cars or Finding Nemo Suite and Request a Water View

Skyliner cars

The gondola cars themselves are also well-themed with about half being wrapped in artwork of favorite characters and attractions. They are adorable!

Each one can hold up to 10 guests, or up to 6 if there is a wheelchair or stroller.

Guests sit on twin, inward-facing, wooden benches.

Disney Skyliner Cars

Strollers up to 30″ x 48″ can remain open (much like they can on the monorail). Strollers larger than that will need to be folded up before boarding.

Disney characters, films, and attractions you might see

Look up! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Belle and Beast!

In addition to the bright, solid colors (like red, yellow, blue, green, and purple), here’s a list of the different characters, movies, and attractions you may see:

Note: even though the cars are wrapped, you can still see out the windows. However, for the clearest view (for things like photographs), consider asking the Cast Member if you can wait for a plain colored car.

  • Beauty & the Beast
  • Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Huey, Duey, & Louie
  • Finding Dory
  • Goofy, Pete, Horace Horsecollar, & Clarabelle Cow
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • The Haunted Mansion
  • Lilo & Stitch
  • Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, & Chip & Dale
  • Monsters, Inc.
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • The Princess and the Frog
  • Ralph Breaks the Internet
  • Ratatouille
  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
  • Winnie the Pooh & Friends
  • Wreck-It Ralph

How do you ride the Disney Skyliner?

Anyone can ride the Skyliner; you don’t have to be staying at a Disney Resort.

Probably the easiest way to catch a ride on the Skyliner (if you aren’t staying at a resort with a station or if you are staying offsite) is to board at either Hollywood Studios or Epcot.

If you do not have a stroller or wheelchair, you’ll board a gondola that is moving very s-l-o-w-l-y, like you do for Haunted Mansion or The Seas with Nemo and Friends.

disney skyliner travel time

Guests using wheelchairs or strollers will be directed to a separate loading area where they board a stationary gondola car.

What about air conditioning?

One thing that is interesting is that the Walt Disney World Skyliner gondolas don’t have air conditioning.

Instead they use a “passive ventilation system” (aka window vents) which allows the breeze to move through the cabins.

Walt Disney World Skyliner Gondolas

As long as the gondola is moving, the temperature inside remains quite comfortable. But, if the gondola stops for any reason, the temps inside the cabin do rise quickly.

We think it’s important to note here that there are attractions at Disney World (like the Tomorrowland Transit Authority – PeopleMover) that are outdoors and don’t have air conditioning, either – and it works just fine.

But, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to carry a folding fan that you can use if the car stops temporarily for any reason.

Gondola construction Caribbean Beach September 2018

Motion Sickness

From our own personal experience, we haven’t had much of an issue with motion sickness on the gondolas. There is some slight swaying but overall they are very smooth.

Of course, if you are prone to motion sickness you’ll want to choose a seat that faces forward. Want more tips? We have an entire post about dealing with motion sickness at Disney World .

How long does the Skyliner take?

Travel times for the Skyliner can vary by a few minutes, but here’s what you can expect:

  • From the Caribbean Beach station to Hollywood Studios: about 5 minutes
  • From the Caribbean Beach station to International Gateway at Epcot: about 12 minutes
  • From Caribbean Beach to Pop Century/Art of Animation: about 3-5 minutes

How early does the Skyliner open?

The operating hours for the gondolas tends to vary depending on what time the parks are opening and closing, but you can typically find them starting from around 7:30 am to 8:30 a.m. and going until 10 or 11 p.m.

Note: Disney does expand the hours during busy times of the year.

Unfortunately, as of right now, the only place the schedule is published is on signs outside the stations.

Skyliner schedule

If you plan to go to Hollywood Studios or Epcot for Rope Drop, we recommend getting in line for the Skyliner 90 minutes before the park opens.

What about the buses?

When the Skyliner is in operation, guests at Pop Century, Riviera, and Caribbean Beach will all be advised to use the Skyliner when going to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Buses will not be available for Hollywood Studios or Epcot.

Art of Animation, however, typically does have buses.

Art of Animation skyliner sign

Quick Tip: If you are staying at Pop Century and wish to exit out the front of Epcot, you can take the Art of Animation bus and walk to Pop from there.

When the gondolas are closed or not running, buses will be dispatched to transport guests between Epcot and Hollywood Studios and the above-mentioned resorts.

Disney Skyliner weather sign

Can I use the Skyliner to get to Topolino’s Terrace before Epcot opens ?

Yes, you can. Even if the Epcot line isn’t boarding, guests wishing to go to Topolino’s Terrace for the character breakfast can still use the Skyliner to get there.

You’ll likely board on the opposite side from where you typically board to go to Epcot, though. Ask a Cast Member at the Caribbean Beach station where to go.

Dining on the Disney Skyliner

Not only does the Skyliner make it easier to get between some resorts and parks, it also makes visiting nearby resorts for dining a lot easier, too.

In particular, we’re a fan of taking the Epcot line over to Disney’s Boardwalk area which used to be so difficult to get to from other resorts.

Skyliner Closures and Refurbishments

While the Skyliner is generally a very reliable system, there are a few times it will be closed.

First, weather may impact operations of the gondola system. High winds and rain will temporarily suspend travel.

And, of course, there have been a few “crashes” of gondola cars at the stations. Thankfully, only minor injuries were reported with those, but the crashes did result in the entire line being down for repairs and safety checks/maintenance.

Finally, the Skyler does require routine maintenance. Disney does try to schedule that during less-busy times of the year, but make sure you check out the refurbishment info below for any known interruptions to service.

Disney Transportation Refurbishments

What happens if the skyliner is closed.

Disney won’t leave you stranded. If the Skyliner is down for any reason, there will be bus service provided to get you back to your resort.

Tips for the Disney Skyliner

  • Anybody can ride the Skyliner; you don’t have to be staying at a resort that has a station to ride it.
  • The Skyliner station at the Epcot International Gateway provides convenient access to the Boardwalk area, including the popular Bon Voyage character meal at Trattoria al Forno.
  • If you are prone to motion sickness, choose a seat that faces forwards.
  • Carry a fan with you (we prefer the folding kind) in case the gondola car stops temporarily.
  • Food and drinks are allowed.
  • Inclement weather may cause the temporary suspension of gondola service.
  • In the case of an emergency, emergency call boxes are located in each of the gondola cabins. If you have a question or need non-emergency help while on the Skyliner, you can call Skyliner Guest Services at (407) 827-2515.

If you just want to ride the Skyliner and you don’t want to pay, where is the best place to get on it and what’s the best transportation to get to a hub

Thank you Billy

Friday 1st of November 2019

None of the Skyliner stations require you to pay as they're all at a hotel or outside a park (unless you count the parking fees at Hollywood Studios). The easiest place to go would be Caribbean Beach Resort and park at the end near the Skyliner station. From there, you can go to any spot on the Skyliner.

Best Disney Skyliner Ride Guide & FAQ w/Route Map

You’ve probably heard of or seen some cars flying through the air on the Walt Disney World grounds. If you haven’t, now you have! Regardless, those flying cable cars are the Walt Disney World gondola system, more commonly known as the Disney Skyliner. This transportation system is expanding rapidly in many big cities as the cost to dig subway tunnels or build light rail above ground is ever increasing. With the projected cost per mile for expansion of the current monorail system at Walt Disney World, expect the Disney Skyliner to increase around the grounds.

Where does the Disney Skyliner go?

Epcot – International Gateway Entrance Riviera Resort Caribbean Beach Resort Hollywood Studios Art of Animation & Pop Century

Disney Skyliner Route Map

What time does disney skyliner open.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios : 9 AM to 8:30 PM EPCOT International Gateway : 10:30 AM to 8:30 PM Disney’s Pop Century Resort & Disney’s Art of Animation Resort : 9 AM to 8:30 PM

Without further ado, buckle up because we are going to cover a lot of ground in this post. You’ll learn about the origins of the gondola, why its cheaper to build for somewhere the size of Walt Disney World, projected costs of building the Disney Skyliner, where it goes currently, and where we expect it to go! We’ve got a lot to cover!

Why did Disney build a gondola system?

I know what many of you are thinking, “I’m not going on a ski lift around Walt Disney World.” I had the same initial thoughts as that is where many gondola systems are used. Some of the earliest uses to transport people in urban areas include the Roosevelt Island Tramway (1976) in New York City, U.S. and the Metrocable (2004) in Medellin, Colombia. While both are fundamentally different from the Disney Skyliner for their economic use, they are the same in that they quickly move people around congested or geographically challenged areas.

Disney has a problem that is common in Florida, traffic. The traffic on Disney property is downright nauseating for someone from the suburban/rural Midwest where we tell distance by time. How far away is Domino’s from my house? About 10 minutes. The truth is that it is about 8 miles, but because our traffic is light at its worst, we talk about distance as if it were time. When you get to Florida, and Disney especially, it might take you 90 minutes to go that same 8 miles.

Disney has a very outdated mode of moving their guests around their property. In the 1990s as Disney was booming in attendance and building hotels like crazy, they just added more bus routes. Why? Because it was cheap, easy, and quick at the time. Never mind the fact that they had 3 parks relatively close together, and an aerial monorail system that moved people to and from the parks furthest apart.

Enter 1998 and the Animal Kingdom Park. This park was built on the far western border of Disney World property and away from everything else. Sprinkle in new resorts that were more spaced out, 58.3 million people in the 4 theme parks ( 2018 numbers ) and you arrive at today’s issue: it takes forever to get around property by car or bus.

Let’s now talk about the second issue at hand: the monorail is EXPENSIVE. Both to build and maintain. Let’s not forget the famous door opening incident in 2018 , that caused both panic to guests and embarrassment to Disney. If we look at the numbers for building a new monorail line based off of recent monorail builds in Las Vegas and Sao Paulo, Brazil, we’re looking at anywhere between $50 million to $150 million PER MILE. Now, Las Vegas had its own issues with construction so we can assume they were way over budget and Sao Paulo likely has lower than expected costs (labor, environmental, etc.).

So it is probably reasonable to assume a cost of $100 million per mile to build a new monorail line at Walt Disney World. Let’s estimate a new line to say, Animal Kingdom, since that is the park furthest away. And we add stops at Animal Kingdom Lodge and Coronado Springs Resort (which would upgrade it from “Moderate” to “Deluxe”), and the end of the loop being the Transportation & Ticket Center, you’re looking at roughly 8.68 miles of new track to be installed. A little bit of math would tell you it would cost roughly $868 million to build this.

A little high of a number, even for Disney who will spend billions to acquire other companies . This is why the Disney Skyliner was built. Eugene Flotterton designed a gondola transportation system for New York City in 2018. His cost to build estimate for that system was $3 million to $12 million per mile. We know that Disney paid Carter Electric $3.8 million for the electrical system alone, so his numbers make sense. The roughly 2.75 mile, 3-route, 5-stop gondola system should be easy to do some rough math to figure out how much it cost to build. On the low end it cost $8.25 million and on the high end $33 million to build the Disney Skyliner. As always, it is probably somewhere in the middle.

Update: I did more research that warranted a single post. How much did the Disney Skyliner cost?

When did Disney start building the Disney Skyliner?

Disney announced they were building the Sklyiner system at the 2017 D23 Expo . This is where we got our first look at the cars and where it would be going: Art of Animation/Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, Riviera Resort (also announced at that time), Epcot, and Hollywood Studios.

When did the Disney Skyliner open?

The Disney Skyliner opened to the public on September 29th, 2019. This was announced by Disney on July 15th, 2019. If you want to see the announcement video just watch below!

How do I ride the Disney Skyliner?

All you have to do to ride the Disney Skyliner is walk up to the station, wait in line, and hop into a car when the Cast Member says it is ok to do so. Friendly reminder that the Skyliner is continuously moving, so if you need extra time to board notify a cast member. From there, just sit back, relax, and enjoy the aerial views of the Walt Disney World Resort.

Where do I go to ride the Disney Skyliner?

The Disney Skyliner has 3 different routes that all meet at one “hub” at Caribbean Beach Resort. From here you can ride to and from Art of Animation/Pop Century, to and from Hollywood Studios, and to and from Epcot/Riviera Resort. Below is a map and a list of the stations/routes. Be sure to read our guide to the best hotels on the Disney Skyliner route .

Disney Skyliner Stations:

Epcot – international gateway entrance.

The station at Epcot is located at the International Gateway Entrance (between United Kingdom and France). This location is right on the loop of resorts on Crescent Lake. This means guests staying at the Walt Disney World Swan, Walt Disney World Dolphin, Disney’s Boardwalk, Disney’s Yacht Club, and Disney’s Beach Club Resorts are all within walking distance of the station. Please be advised if you are using this station to get to the parking lot at Epcot, you MUST have a valid ticket to enter the park. The only way to get to the parking lot from here is to go through the park.

Riviera Resort

The Riviera Resort is a Disney Vacation Club Resort that opened December 16th, 2019. As part of the opening of the resort, the Disney Skyliner station opened with it. This resort is on the Epcot Park Route and is not a transfer station. It is located between Epcot and Caribbean Beach Resort on this route.

Caribbean Beach Resort

This is the “hub” station that all 3 Disney Skyliner Routes converge into. If you are riding into this station from the Hollywood Studios or Art of Animation/Pop Century Stations, you must exit your ride vehicle. It is located at the front entrance of the Caribbean Beach Resort and features a Joffrey’s Coffee stand outside the station.

Hollywood Studios

This Disney Skyliner station is the only stop on the route to Hollywood Studios . If you ride here from Caribbean Beach Resort, you must exit your vehicle. If you wish to ride back, you may do so, but will have to wait in line again. It is located at the front of the park between the disabled/elderly drop off spot and the bus loop.

Art of Animation & Pop Century

The last Disney Skyliner station services both Art of Animation Resort and Pop Century Resort. It is located in the middle of the pedestrian bridge over Hourglass Lake. It is the only stop on this route and again, guests must exit their vehicle as it is a transfer station. Both resorts are a short walk away from the Skyliner exit.

What hotels are connected to the Disney Skyliner?

There are 9 hotels directly connected to the Disney Skyliner system. They are: Disney’s Yacht Club Disney’s Beach Club Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Disney’s Riviera Resort Disney’s Caribbean Beach Disney’s Pop Century Disney’s Art of Animation Walt Disney World Swan Walt Disney World Dolphin

How long does it take to ride the Disney Skyliner? (Skyliner Travel Times)

We timed the Skyliner on our last trip and found that the trip from Epcot to Riviera is 10 minutes, Riviera to the Caribbean Beach Resort is 3 minutes (13 minutes if you’re going from Epcot to Caribbean Beach). The trip from Caribbean Beach to Hollywood Studios is about 5 minutes, and the trip from Caribbean Beach to Art of Animation/Pop Century is also 5 minutes.

Am I forced to get out at Riviera Resort when riding from Epcot or Caribbean Beach Resort?

You are not forced to get out as the Riviera Resort station is not a transfer station! Similar to the monorail loop at the Magic Kingdom Resorts, guests who wish to get out at Riviera just need to stand up as they are moving through the station. Guests who wish to continue on their journey may stay in their seat and keep riding.

How many people are in each Disney Skyliner car?

The maximum capacity for a Disney Skyliner car is 10 people. If you have a stroller, wheelchair, or ECV it drops to 6 passengers. The six passengers includes the passenger in the stroller/wheelchair/ECV.

Do we have to ride with other passengers on the Disney Skyliner?

This will depend on how busy the Skyliner is. If you are riding at peak times (opening or closing of the parks) you will likely have to share a car with other guests. We rode in the middle of the day on our last trip and were able to get our own car multiple times, even with other groups in front of and behind us.

Are strollers allowed on the Disney Skyliner?

Yes! The maximum stroller size is 30″ by 48″ so if yours is bigger than that, kids will have to disembark and the stroller will need to fold. If your stroller is small than that, you can roll it right onto the Skyliner with your kids still inside. Reminder that capacity drops to 6 passengers when you add a stroller, so plan accordingly if traveling in a large group.

Are wheelchairs and ECV allowed on the Disney Skyliner?

Yes! Just like strollers, you will just roll right onto the car. If you are in a wheelchair or ECV, you will go to a designated area after waiting in line. There is a special loading zone so that you can have extra time to get on and off the lift. Again, if you are traveling with a wheelchair/ECV the capacity drops to 6. If you are in a group larger than 6, plan who will be traveling in a separate car before you get to the front of the line.

What is the procedure for bad weather near the Disney Skyliner?

Just like every other area of Walt Disney World grounds, there are procedures in place that prioritize safety. There is nothing posted about this procedure, but a cast member operating the Skyliner assured us that they would not be running if it wasn’t safe (it was a cold and very windy day).

Can you eat and drink on the Disney Skyliner?

There are no rules posted about this, but I got a hot coffee at the Joffrey’s stand right outside Caribbean Beach and then boarded with no issue. I saw numerous people with food from the stand or resorts as well. It is safe to say that food and drink are allowed on the Disney Skyliner.

Is the Disney Skyliner air conditioned?

It is not air conditioned. There are vents across the top and the bottom of the Skyliner cars that allow air to freely move through the vehicle. Due to the speed of the cars and the height that they sit, it is very comfortable when riding.

How fast does the Disney Skyliner go?

The Disney Skyliner soars through the sky at a lightning speed of 11 mph. This is the top speed throughout the entire system and most times you will only reach it once while on board (the cars tend to slow down to assist with boarding).

How high is the Disney Skyliner?

The Disney Skyliner goes to a maximum height of 60 feet from the ground. If you’re afraid of heights, it might be best to sit this one out and take the bus or boat around the grounds.

Is Disney building more Disney Skyliners?

As of now, we have not heard of any official plans to expand the Disney Skyliner. However, this doesn’t mean that they are not working on a plan to do so. If we had to guess, or maybe just dream, a Disney Skyliner expansion route connecting Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs would be the next move. Doing so would alleviate A LOT of road congestion from Buena Vista Drive and Osceola Parkway (the main east-west roads through Disney property).

Your Thoughts

Have you ridden the Disney Skyliner yet? If you have, give us your thoughts below! We know lots of people are not happy about the lack of air conditioning in the Skyliner cars. Personally we didn’t mind when riding in February (around 60 degree temperatures) but it may be worse in higher temperatures. If you think we missed something, go ahead and add it in a comment below!

What is the Disney World Skyliner?

what-is-disney-skyliner

The Disney Skyliner is the newest transportation option at Walt Disney World. It is a gondola lift system that took off in September 2019 and has been transporting guests from five different stations throughout four different Disney resorts and two parks ever since. Each Disney gondola can seat up to ten guests, or up to six guests for parties which include a wheelchair or mobile scooter.

This addition to Disney’s already fantastic transportation system is not only a way to get from here to there, but much like the monorail, it has become a must-do experience for guests when they are enjoying their Walt Disney World vacation. So, as the omniscient friendly voice likes to tell all of the guests riding the Disney Skyway gondola , sit back and relax as we share some of our favorite Disney Skyliner information to help you make it a fun part of your next vacation.

Disney Skyliner Cable Cars

The Disney World gondola system has almost 300 gondolas that take guests from destination to destination. You’ll see the brightly colored gondolas floating through the air high overhead on steel cables as they transport guests to and from parks and resorts. To make them even more fun, about half of the WDW gondolas are decorated with Disney character wraps showing Marvel characters, Star Wars characters, ride characters and of course, Disney and Pixar characters enjoying the ride. What could be more inviting than seeing your favorite characters invite you to fly along with them?

Who Can Ride the Disney Skyliner?

Each Disney Skyliner station is open to anyone who wants to ride that particular flight. You do not need to stay at the resort where the station is located or even visit the park. That is our favorite part about the Skyliner Disney has! Some of our favorite days are relaxing in the Skyliner, and feeling the breeze in the Florida sun!

You can get to two theme parks, a variety of Walt Disney World Resorts, and amazing views while venturing on the Disney Skyliner route. As a guest, you have four places you can hop onto a Disney Gondola Skyliner and begin your journey.

Where you begin your flight will be up to you. You can choose it as your exit route from a theme park or choose one of the resort hotels with Disney Skyliner stops!

What is the 2024 Disney Skyliner route?

The Skyliner Route Disney World has is convenient for those visiting or staying in the EPCOT or Hollywood Studios areas. One of the biggest perks of staying at Disney Skyliner Resorts is that there are stops built right at your resort for your convenience. The Riviera is one of the best resorts that we love staying at on the Disney Skyliner route, as it’s right in the middle and super nice.

The 2024 Disney Skyliner stops are:

  • Caribbean Beach Resort Skyliner Station
  • Riviera Resort Skyliner Station

Pop Century / Art of Animation Resort Skyliner Station

  • Epcot International Gateway Skyliner Station

Hollywood Studios Skyliner Station

Disney Skyliner Map 2024

Above, we’ve used Google Maps to outline the Disney Skyliner maps to see where you can fly in the sky! As you can see in this Skyliner Disney map, all of these areas are connected and can be reached through these various stops! The Caribbean Beach Skyliner stop acts as the central hub where all Skyliner routes end there, and you either have to transfer or get off at that hotel.

Unfortunately, the Disney Skyliner route isn’t continuous to all of these resorts, and the Art of Animation, Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT lines stop to transfer for guests looking to continue.

What are the 2024 Disney Skyliner Stations?

disney-skyliner-stops

Disney’s Skyliner at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

The Caribbean Beach Resort skyliner station is considered to be the “hub” of all of the Disney gondola stations because from here, you can get anywhere the Skyliner gondolas travel.

Set in the heart of the Caribbean Beach Resort, guests staying at this resort can use the internal bus transportation system to ride over to the skyliner at Caribbean Beach.

The Caribbean Beach skyliner is the largest station since it travels to so many places and is designed to fit right in with the rest of the theming at Caribbean Beach Resort with its beautiful open air and wrought iron design.

Disney Rivera Resort Skyliner

This Disney Riviera Skyliner station is a great stop for this resort or any of its fabulous restaurants. It is also a good place to hop on or off if your Caribbean Beach Resort room is closer to this station than the Caribbean Beach Resort hub. It’s often more quiet and easier to use.

If you do start your flight here and plan to travel to the Epcot Skyliner or Pop Century/Art of Animation, know that you will have to get out of your gondola at the Caribbean Beach Resort Hub and then get back on a new gondola for the destination you are heading to. This particular station is also the only terminal where you don’t have to get off and can ride “through” the station if you are traveling to Hollywood Studios.

The addition of the Disney Skyliner makes the Pop Century resort our favorite value resort when comparing hotels at Walt Disney World. This gondola station’s claim to fame is that it’s the only floating gondola station. When you ride your gondola flight to or from Pop Century / Art of Animation, you’ll get a low-gliding beautiful ride right over Hourglass Lake.

Add in a sunset and you’ll enjoy one of the prettiest views at Disney World. If you are using this station as your launching point for flights to any other location, you will travel to the Caribbean Beach Resort Gondola Station first, debark, and then get in line for whichever place you want to travel to, if Caribbean Beach Resort isn’t your destination.

Epcot Skyliner Station

Designed with hand-painted murals, this skyliner station is made to transport right into the European countries near the World Showcase entrance. The Epcot skyliner station is one endpoint of the Disney Skyliner system so once you arrive here, you’ll need to step off and travel on your way or wait in line to get back on board to go back from where you came from.

Because of where this Disney Skyliner station is located, you can also easily use this station to then take a quick stroll to the Boardwalk area to visit the resorts, entertainment venues, and restaurants in that area. We like riding this particular route of the Disney Skyliner right now because it is a great way to get a birds-eye view of the construction happening in the France pavilion as they work on the Ratatouille ride.

Another endpoint on the skyline ride system, the Hollywood Studios Skyliner station lands you right at the entrance of Hollywood Studios. And like all of the Skyliner stations, it is designed to blend right in with the theming of its home, beautifully decorated in those gorgeous turquoise and red art deco tones that are quintessential Hollywood Studios.

While most people will use this station for their trip to Hollywood Studios, you can also walk off the Hollywood Studios gondola and walk right onto the pathway to Boardwalk destinations, including the Swan and Dolphin, Boardwalk, and Beach Club Resorts.

2024 Disney World Gondolas Opening Times?

disney-skyliner-hours

So , what are the 2024 Disney skyliner hours? The Disney World Skyliner hours are one hour before Hollywood Studios and a half hour before EPCOT officially opens up for guests.

While we do expect the 2024 skyliner operating hours to fluctuate with park hours, they generally begin their flights about an hour before Disney’s Hollywood Studios opens and a half hour before EPCOT opens. Each Disney Skyliner route will generally continue to run for an hour and a half after the respective park closes. One thing to keep an eye on is that infamous Orlando weather. Inclement weather, like strong winds or lightning strikes, may cause the Disney Skyliner  System to temporarily close down until the all-clear is given.

What are the 2024 Disney Skyliner Operating hours?

The Disney Skyliner hours are as follows:

  • Open: One hour before Hollywood Studios & half hour before EPCOT
  • Close: Hour and a half after Hollywood Studios & EPCOT close

What time does the Skyliner open to EPCOT?

As a general rule of thumb, the Disney Skyliner hours typically start to run around 60-90 minutes before EPCOT opens in the morning which can be between 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM. This would be the same for the other nearby park Hollywood Studios.

Riding any of the Skyliner Flights is also a fast way to get from destination to destination. Here are the approximate Disney Skyliner travel times for each flight from the Caribbean Beach Resort Hub:

2024 Disney Skyliner Ride Times

  • To Hollywood Studios: about 5 minutes
  • To International Gateway at Epcot: about 12 minutes
  • To Pop Century/Art of Animation: about 3-5 minutes
  • To Riviera Resort: about 3 minutes

Disney Gondola Wait Times

Of course, you’ll have to wait in line to board your gondola but we have found that except for very busy times (like opening and closings of parks), the continual boarding system (the gondolas move slowly through the terminal and you walk on much like a ride at Haunted Mansion or Spaceship Earth), creates a quickly moving line that produces small wait times.

Is the Disney Skyliner Transportation System Air Conditioned?

The short answer is no. But to help keep guests comfortable, each Walt Disney World Skyliner gondola has reflective panels to avoid direct sunlight and cross-ventilation windows that allow for air flow. Even on the warmest days at Walt Disney World , the gondolas stay nice and cool so long as they are moving. And on those cool nights, the vents can be closed so guests will not get too chilly.

Are the Walt Disney World Skyliner Gondolas Safe?

disney skyliner travel time

In case of emergency, each Disney S kyliner gondola is equipped with an emergency contact call button as well as an emergency kit. While the Disney skyliner did have one notorious flight shortly after it began where guests were stuck in gondolas for hours, it has not had anything similar happen since that incident.

It appears the Disney skyliner system has worked out its kinks. But if you happen to get stuck in a stationary gondola for a longer time frame, you are welcome to open the emergency kit and use what you need in order to help you a through the emergency.

The emergency kit can be found under the bench inside the gondola. The Disney s kyliner Emergency Kit includes things like:

  • Instant ice
  • Emergency drinking water
  • Glow sticks
  • Sickness bags

How Much Does the Disney Skyliner Cost to Ride?

Another common question we receive is, how much does the Disney skyliner cost to ride? And one of the best parts about the Disney skyliner is it is absolutely free to ride. Just like the Disney World monorail and bus services you do not need a ticket or have to pay to ride. This is one of the reasons why we love it so much! It’s the perfect way to not only get from park to park but also visit the different Disney hotels. We have specifically fallen in love with the restaurants at Disney’s Riviera Resort. There is no better way to end a great dinner than to watch the sunset on the Walt Disney World gondola.

Is the Disney Skyliner Wheelchair Accessible?

Yes, absolutely! Every Disney World Skyliner station has a specific wheelchair accessible queue to board as well as specific Skyliner gondolas. This Gondola which is made specifically for wheelchairs and other electric vehicles loads to the side so that the other Disney skyliner cabins do not have to stop and guests can take their time loading. Once everyone is inside the cabin the skyliner will merged seamlessly into the rest of the moving gondolas. We find it very cool how easy it really is!

How Big Are The Disney World Gondolas?

are-the-gondolas-open-at-disney

Another one of the most common questions we receive is, how big are the Disney skyliners? Each WDW gondola is large enough to seat up to 10 people. The exception to this is the gondolas set aside that are made specifically for wheelchair and ECV access. Those can seat about 6 people at a time as well as the wheelchair or ECV. Walt Disney gondolas have two benches inside the gondola. The two benches face each other, so you’ll be able to choose a forward-facing bench or a backward-facing bench. If you rented a stroller in Disney , you’ll be able to simply push the stroller right on into the gondola, and keep your child in the stroller. Not having to break down a stroller and disturb your sleeping little one is a definite benefit of riding the Skyliner at Disney World.

How many people can fit in the Disney skyliner?

  • Ten passengers
  • Six passengers with one wheelchair or scooter

2024 Disney World Skyliner Gondolas Tips & Tricks

We highly suggest that no matter where you’re staying during your Disney vacation , see if you can squeeze in at least one flight on the newest Disney mode of transportation . Here are a few quick tips for those of you planning to make this a part of your next Disney vacation.

  • Not staying in one of the Disney Resorts that the Skyliner flies to? Use the skyliner to park hop from Epcot to Hollywood Studios or make a dining reservation at one of the many resorts that has a Skyliner terminal for after your park day at either Hollywood Studios or Epcot.
  • Before you hop aboard, take a quick bathroom break. Like any transportation vehicle or ride, we fully expect our travel will be on time, but just in case you get stuck or the line is long, it’s better to be comfortable while you wait. This is especially true if you have little ones.
  • To get the best view from your gondola, ask if you can have a non-character wrapped gondola. The cute character wraps are fun to see floating along, but they create an obscured view as you travel in them.
  • If you are prone to motion sickness, sit on a bench that is forward facing near the sides of the vehicle so you can look out as you travel. The gondola ride is generally smooth, so it doesn’t upset most people sensitive to motion sickness.
  • For beautiful views all around, ride the gondolas around sunset time. You’ll see parts of Disney in a completely new way.
  • About the only time we don’t recommend riding a Skyliner is during “rope drop,” when parks open. Even with reduced park capacity, early morning rides on the Disney Skyliner can have long waits and may cause you to miss rope drop .

Disney Skyliner: Ultimate Guide to the Best Disney World Transportation

Disney Skyliner: Ultimate Guide to the Best Disney World Transportation

Walt Disney World's Skyliner is the newest method of transportation on the property. Opening in 2019, the Disney Skyliner is a gondola system that takes guests high in the sky to various locations around the resort. The gondolas are enclosed carts that have vented windows and bench-like seats with gondola themed after a different Disney character. The Disney Skyliner has quickly become one of the best and easiest transportation options around the Walt Disney World resort.

The Disney Skyliener is extremely family friendly as the doors of the gondolas stay sealed shut throughout the duration of the ride while the windows can be opened or closed. Guests can even listen to periodic sightseeing audio while traveling. The maximum height you will go above ground is sixty feet, where you pass over intersections, hotels, and more.

Riding the Disney Skyliner is super quick and this additional transportation method has been super beneficial for Walt Disney World! Keep reading for the full breakdown of how to use the Disney Skyliner and what resort hotels have the easiest access to this best Disney transportation option.

Disney Skyliner Stations

The Disney Skyliner has five different stations that guests can board from:

  • Outside of the park turnstiles, between the UK and France pavilions. This port is a small walk from the Yacht Club, Beach Club, or Boardwalk Resorts.
  • Between security and the bus stops.
  • Between the Aruba section of Caribbean Beach Resort and the front of the Riviera Resort.
  • Across from the Trinidad section, next to the Jamaica section.
  • On the bridge connecting both resorts.

Easy access to the Disney Skyliner is available in all the room categories at Walt Disney World. Disney's Riveria Resort is a deluxe resort for Disney Vacation Club villas while its nearby resort, Caribbean Beach , is a moderate resort. Disney's Pop Century and Art of Animation Resorts are both considered value resorts.

You will see a bit of a higher price point for the resorts with Skyliner access due to the convenience of this transportation option.

Disney's Skyliner Basics

The gondola-style carts of the Skyliner can fit up to ten guests without any mobility aids. With scooters/ECVs, strollers, or wheelchairs, the gondolas can seat six guests. For ECVs and wheelchairs, there is a designated loading area with ramps to comfortably board these guests and their parties. When boarding the Skyliner, guests with single strollers may keep them open. However, guests with double strollers must fold them up for the duration of the ride.

From my personal experience, gondolas are usually only loaded with four to eight people on average. Keep in mind, the odds of your party being solo in a gondola is low, so be prepared to make some new friends! However, if the lines are slow or empty, you will most likely score a private ride!

Another big part of the Skyliner is the height. If anyone in your party has a fear of heights, then the Skyliner will definitely seem a bit off-putting to them. My best advice to guests with acrophobia is to sit on the back side of the gondola. You want your back to be against the window so that you are facing forward. You will still be able to see the height, but it will be much better than sitting backward during the ride. Sitting backward gives guests a better view of the heights, and can also feel more bumpy, especially during landing.

When to Ride Disney's Skyliner

You do not have to be a Skyliner resort guest to ride! Anyone (whether staying on property or not) can utilize this transportation method! However, if you are staying on (or near) a Skyliner resort, you definitely want to make sure that you are taking full advantage of this.

The Skyliner starts running about 30-60 minutes before the park opens. This means that it will start traveling to Hollywood Studios (and the other Skyliner resort stations) at around 7am, and Epcot around 8am. If you plan on getting to the park for opening or early entry, then you want to try and get in line for the Skyliner a bit early! Depending on what's going on at the park for the day, arrive 15-20 minutes early to line up for the station. This will ensure less of a wait during peak boarding times. Luckily, even if you cannot make it to the station early, lines tend to move at a steady pace since the carts are constantly running!

At the end of the day, Disney's Skyliner stops running between 10:30 and 11:30pm. This really just depends on what's going on at the parks and how busy they are that day. Lines for the Skyliner after park closing can get  very packed. To avoid these, try to either leave the park a few minutes early or take your time getting to the park's exit! After the Skyliner stops running for the night, guests must use an alternate transportation method such as busses, monorails, boats, or Ubers.

Disney Skyliner Weather Delays

Weather can be pretty unpredictable,  especially  in Florida. Luckily, the cast members running the Skyliner are always prepared for changes!

If it happens to be drizzling, misty, or sun-showering, the Skyliner will usually still run like normal. As long as there is no thunder or lightning in the vicinity, cast members will close the vented windows and assure that you are staying dry throughout your ride. I have personally ridden the Skyliner when it was drizzling, and I didn't mind! The windows were still able to let a breeze in but kept my party and me dry! It is really neat to be high in the sky in your own bubble while watching the weather around you. If the rain or wind picks up, that is when cast members will start delaying or stopping the gondolas.

If the weather escalates to a full-blown thunderstorm, or a tornado, or if it's even a sunny day with super high winds, the Skyliner will shut down. Alternate transportation methods can be taken (and are available to all guests) until the bad weather clears up and the Skyliner can run again. On a normal everyday basis, Skyliner resorts might not provide busses for Epcot or Hollywood Studios since guests can use the Skyliner. However, the moment a shutdown happens for any reason, buses will instantly be available. Watch for A-frame signs around the bus stops or Skyliner stations around your resort for updates on any transportation changes.

Disney Skyliner Refurbishments

Walt Disney World is not unfamiliar with refurbishments and the Skyliner is no exception. Refurbishment on the Skyliner can happen at any point but has occurred around the same time for the past few years.

In January of both 2022 and 2023, the Skyliner was closed and under refurbishment from the 22nd to the 29th. Signs get placed around Skyliner resorts and alternate transportation methods are always offered and advertised. That being said, it seems like end-of-January refurbishments will be the new normal for now! Be sure to check out our guide to Walt Disney World refurbishments  for any changes or updates to future refurbs.

How to Use Disney's Skyliner: A Quick Breakdown

Using the Skyliner is so simple! Let's break down some important tips and tricks to ensure you'll have a smooth flight in the sky:

  • Book a Skyliner Resort. Staying on property already has so many perks, and the Skyliner resorts are truly beautiful. Why not take advantage of an extra perk by booking one?
  • Check for any closures or refurbishments before your trip. Before booking that special resort, be sure you can make use of the Skyliner when staying there! Hop onto Disney's website and check for any closures.
  • Keep in check with the weather. Weather can change in a moment, but it's great to have a head-start on backup plans! Keep your eyes peeled for any thunderstorms or high winds.
  • Arrive 15-20 minutes before the Skyliner starts running . Avoid early morning crowd buildups by getting to the station before it opens. Lines will form, so it is best to be there early!
  • Know the layout and locations. Familiarize yourself with the stops, the locations of each hub, and the hours of the Skyliner. This will ensure that you make it anywhere you need to go in an efficient amount of time!
  • Enjoy the flight! Sit back, relax, and enjoy the newest (and coolest in my opinion) method of transportation!

Understanding the Stations and Stops of the Disney Skyliner

disney skyliner travel time

Like earlier mentioned, there are five different stations for Disney's Skyliner. Let's break down how to navigate each one!

Disney's Skyliner: Hollywood Studios to/from Pop Century or Art of Animation:

When boarding the Skyliner to reach Hollywood Studios, you will encounter a transfer at another station. Hop aboard at the Generation Gap Bridge station and it will take you to Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. Here, you must  disembark from your first gondola and then follow the signs to the second one. Hollywood Studios will be the path to your left when getting off of the cart from Pop or AOA. Then, you will have a straight shot to Hollywood Studios! This entire ride (possible lines to board not included) is about five minutes!

To get back from Hollywood Studios, board the Skyliner at the front of the park and ride to the Caribbean Beach Resort. Then hang right and board your second gondola to the Generation Gap Bridge station! After exiting, take a left to visit Pop Century or a right to visit Art of Animation.

Disney's Skyliner: Epcot to/from Pop Century or Art of Animation:

This is another transfer ride from either direction. To the park, you will board and exit at the same spot as you will for Hollywood Studios. This time, you want to head straight to board the second gondola to Epcot. From here, you will head towards Disney's Riviera Resort, but do not  exit! The gondola doors will open up and cast members will confirm your destination. For Epcot, you must stay onboard. After swinging through the Riviera station, you will have about a 7-10 minute ride, making this entire journey about twelve minutes.

To return, make your way to the International Gateway in between the UK and France pavilions of the World Showcase. Get on your first gondola, do not disembark at the Riviera Resort, and then exit at the Caribbean Beach. Head straight to reach the second ride to the resorts!

Disney's Skyliner: Caribbean Beach Resort to/from Pop Century or Art of Animation:

This one is quite easy! Board the Skyliner on the bridge for a quick two-minute ride to the resort! I love doing this for any dining or bar-hopping…More on that later!

Coming back, head left and hop on the gondolas to the Generation Gap Bridge station.

Disney's Skyliner: Riviera Resort to/from Pop Century or Art of Animation:

Another easy ride. You will go from the Generation Gap Bridge station to Caribbean Beach Resort. From there, go to Epcot's line and board your second gondola. This time, exit when arriving at the Riviera Resort! Let the cast members know that you are not going to Epcot, and you will then be able to exit toward the resort.

To return, follow the Pop Century/Art of Animation signs forward. Board these and exit at the Caribbean Beach Resort. Then, head straight toward the gondolas in front of you. Boarding these will lead you right to the Generation Gap Bridge! Again, be sure to make a left if you want to visit Pop Century or a right if you'd like to see Art of Animation.

Disney's Skyliner: Hollywood Studios to/from Caribbean Beach Resort:

Depending on what section of the resort you are staying in, the walk to the Skyliner station could be a long one. However, it's always worth it! When approaching the Skyliner station from the front, you will follow the signs for Hollywood Studios, which will be at the back of the hub. Hop on and enjoy the three(ish) minute ride!

To come back ‘home' after a long day, hop on the Skyliner at the park's station and have a quick ride to your destination!

Disney's Skyliner: Epcot to/from Caribbean Beach Resort:

To get to Epcot, the boarding side for this park will be on your right. Board your gondola, do not exit at the Riviera, and relax for your 10/12 minute ride.

When you are ready to return, board the Skyliner at International Gateway. Enjoy the ride back to Caribbean Beach, and again, be sure not to exit at the Riviera!

Disney's Skyliner: Riviera Resort to/from Caribbean Beach Resort:

Board the right side station to Epcot/Riviera. This time, let the cast members know that you will be exiting and will not be traveling all the way to Epcot! This ride is about 3-5 minutes.

To get back, follow the signs through the walkway of murals straightforward to reach the gondolas heading to the resort.

Disney's Skyliner: Hollywood Studios to/from Riviera Resort:

To get to the park, head straight and follow the signs that advertise for Caribbean Beach/Hollywood Studios. Board your first gondola and exit at Disney's Caribbean Beach! From there, take a right and board your second gondola to get to the park. All together, this is about six minutes!

To return, hop on the first gondola at the front of the park. Take a slight left and get on the gondolas there. Let cast members know that you are not going to Epcot and exit at the Riviera!

Disney's Skyliner: Epcot to/from Riviera Resort:

To get to Epcot, instead of heading straight after the walkway, make a left at the signs and follow the path to the Epcot gondolas. Here, you might be squeezed in with carts that are already partially occupied, so be sure to be patient while they find a cart to fit your party! The ride from the Riviera Resort to Epcot is about ten minutes.

To get back to the beautiful Riviera Resort, hop on the gondolas at International Gateway and enjoy your ride.

Disney's Skyliner: Epcot to/from Hollywood Studios:

To get to Epcot, board the Skyliner at the front of the park and ride to the Caribbean Beach Resort. Exit your first gondola at this station and take a slight left to get into the line for Epcot. Do not exit the gondola at the Riviera and enjoy your ride!

To get from Epcot to Hollywood Studios, hop on the gondola at International Gateway and do not exit at the Riviera. Exit at the Caribbean Beach station, then head right to board the Hollywood Studios gondolas.

Resort-Hopping on Disney's Skyliner

This requires no park tickets and can be made into a completely customized day based on your party's interests. Using the amazing four Skyliner resorts, you can have a day full of adventure.

For the Foodies

You can make a fun day out of dining around the resorts on the Skyliner loop. There are so  many great offerings that deserve to be recognized. Have a three-course meal out of one dining destination at each of the resorts! Enjoy unique foods while relaxing all day. Whatever you decide to do, make it your own!

disney skyliner travel time

All four resorts offer great quick-service dining options. Centertown Market at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, Everything POP at Pop Century, Landscape of Flavors at Art of Animation, and Primo Piatto at Disney's Riviera Resort offer quick cuisine options for all palates. You can find breakfast platters, burgers, pizzas, and more at each location. Options vary between resorts but do not stray too far away from each other in similarity.

There are no reservable sit-down dining options at Pop Century or Art of Animation, but guests can definitely find some great restaurants at Caribbean Beach and Riviera! Sebastian's Bistro at Caribbean Beach Resort is located in the center hub of the resort near the main pool. They serve family-style dinner from 4:30pm to 9:30pm and prices are pretty reasonable at $35 per adult and $19 per child. At the Riviera resort, guests can dine at Topolino's Terrace, a super popular spot. Breakfast is served from 7:30am to 12:15pm and costs $45 per adult and $29 per child. Dinner is served 5:00pm to 9:30pm and prices are based on what is ordered. Keep in mind, breakfast will feature several characters which is super entertaining for the little ones!

For the Adventurers

Walt Disney World resorts offer great ways to entertain any party! There is always something going on during the day. At the resorts, guests can participate in scavenger hunts, tie-dye clothes, dance parties, and more! Signs are posted around the resorts with what activities are going on and what times they are being held. Some of the activities require an extra fee, which guests can sign up and pay for before the event starts.

The resorts also offer movies under the stars, where guests can bring snacks and blankets and get comfortable in the grass together while a movie is playing. Resorts normally have a sign with that week's movies near the area they are shown. Guests can ask any cast member when and where the movies are being played; they are always happy to help!

On occasion, the resorts will also offer s'mores making and campfires. The official list of participating resorts does not include Pop Century or Art of Animation, but during my stay at Pop in May of 2022, we did see them holding a little bonfire! All of the campfire activities are complimentary.

Keep in mind… If you are staying at one of the Skyliner resorts, you may only use the pools at that resort. Pool-hopping to other resorts is not permitted!

For Those Over 21

For the bar-goers and the ones who couldn't wait to turn twenty-one…This is for you! Resort bars are sometimes overlooked and they definitely should not be. There is nothing like lounging in the sun with a drink in your hand on a relaxing day! Luckily, the Skyliner bar-crawl is a legit (and super fun) thing to do!

Petals Pool Bar at Pop Century is a poolside bar that offers fun frozen drinks, mixed drinks, beer, and wine. This bar is not  in  the pool gates, so you can still visit! For $15.50, my recommendation would be the Piña CoLAVA drink there. This is a frozen drink with Bacardi Raspberry Rum, coconut, and pineapple. It is drizzled with raspberry puree and just embraces the feeling of a tropical getaway.

Right across the bridge, Art of Animation has The Dropoff Pool Bar. This  Finding Nemo  themed bar offers amazing drinks! The most popular drink is the Big Blue Ocean. Costing $16.50, this drink features Svedka vodka, Bacardi rum, Blue curaçao, and lemonade.

At Caribbean Beach, guests can take a seat at Banana Cabana and enjoy some light bites and great drinks. All of the drinks here are great, but if I had to recommend one, I would say the Caribbean Mai Tai for $15.50! With both a dark and light rum and flavors of orange and slight almond, this drink is not as sweet as others but still packs a punch.

Bar Riva at the Riviera Resort is a great place to lounge, chill out, and enjoy the atmosphere! They offer some unique small dishes and lovely cocktails. This bar is pretty popular and it is definitely hard to narrow it down to one favorite drink. If you enjoy tequila, I would recommend the Golden Haze Margarita for $16.50. With blanco tequila, Grand Marnier, lime, agave, and a hint of smoked chili, this drink is classy and boozy in the perfect way.

You can check out a full list of dining and drinking options here .

Disney's Skyliner: The Best Transportation Method!

Call me biased here, but with all being said and done…The Skyliner is the best method of transportation. With easy access to two of the parks and many of the resorts, this high-tech ride in the sky is just incredibly impressive. Even without a park ticket, there are so many things to do along the Skyliner loop!

I love how simple it is, especially when staying at a Skyliner resort, to wake up, board the gondolas, and quickly arrive wherever I need to be.

Let's hope that the future of the Skyliner includes expansions to the other parks and locations around the resort property!

Disney Skyliner Map and Routes Guide

Are you planning a trip to Disney World and wondering how to navigate the newest transportation system? Look no further! The Disney Skyliner is a gondola/cable car system that offers guests a unique and scenic way to travel between Disney World resorts and theme parks. In this blog post, I’ll cover everything you need to know, including the Disney Skyliner map, routes, and operating hours.

The Disney Skyliner is a gondola transportation system that connects select Disney World resorts and theme parks. It offers guests a unique and scenic way to travel, giving them a bird’s-eye view of the Disney World property. The Skyliner opened in 2019 and has since become a popular mode of transportation for guests.

The Disney Skyliner offers guests unique views as it soars over waterways and woods while transporting them to theme parks and resort hotels. It’s known as the “most magical flight on Earth” and connects EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and four resorts: Disney’s Art of Animation, Disney’s Pop Century, Disney’s Caribbean Beach, and Disney’s Riviera.

No, there is no additional cost to ride the Disney Skyliner. It is included with your Disney World admission.

The Disney Skyliner Stations

The Disney Skyliner has several stations that connect different Disney World resorts and theme parks. Here are the stations you can expect to find:

The Epcot Skyliner Station

The Epcot Station

The Disney Skyliner station at EPCOT’s International Gateway is designed to resemble the nearby European Pavilions, with metal and glass canopies, hand-painted murals, and steel structures reminiscent of 18th century Art Nouveau. Guests using the Disney Skyliner will be greeted with a unique aerial view of World Showcase upon arrival at EPCOT.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Station

The Disney’s Hollywood Studios station matches the design style of the park’s main entrance and bus stations. Those traveling from Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort will experience a unique aerial view of iconic attractions like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

The Skyliner station is located just before the Disney Bus stops as you leave Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Disney Skyliner Station at Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Station

The main hub for Disney Skyliner activity is the Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort station. It’s inspired by Caribbean open-air markets and features the resort’s architectural style and colors. Passengers can transfer gondola routes here or take a moment to admire the resort’s waterfront setting.

The Skyliner approaching Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort's station.

Disney’s Riviera Resort Station

A major advantage of staying at Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s newest DVC resort, is its location on the Disney Skyliner route between Epcot and Hollywood Studios . This station is just a short walk away from the resort.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort / Disney’s Pop Century Resort Station

Disney’s Pop Century and Art of Animation Resorts share a Disney Skyliner station that fits in with the whimsical atmosphere of both resorts. Passengers will have a panoramic view of the two colorful resorts while gliding over Hourglass Lake after departing the station.

The Turning Station

The cabins slow down at a Disney Skyliner turn-station on Buena Vista Drive, allowing guests to observe the mechanical and aerial elements of the Disney Skyliner. This isn’t an actual station where you get off and rather a structure that allows the cars to slowly turn sharply towards Epcot.

  • The lines are set up in the station, so pick where you want to go and get in that line.
  • The wait time may be longer during peak park times but shouldn’t take more than 5-10 minutes.

Getting Off at Riviera Resort Station:

  • Guests can get off here if they’re staying at the resort or certain rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort.
  • The station is closer to some rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort, especially in the “Aruba” section.
  • The station is not a transfer station, so guests will not switch gondolas here.
  • Guests must let the cast members know if they want to get off at this station.

A Disney Transportation Sign

A Very Different Form of Disney Transportation

The Disney Skyliner is a one-of-a-kind transportation system that offers guests a different way to experience Disney World. Unlike traditional forms of transportation such as buses and monorails, the Skyliner provides a scenic and elevated view of the property. In conclusion, the Disney Skyliner is a must-try for anyone visiting Disney World. Not only is it a convenient mode of transportation, but it also offers a unique and memorable experience. Be sure to check the schedule and plan ahead for wait times, especially during peak times, for a seamless and enjoyable experience. Happy travels and we hope you enjoy your Disney Skyliner journey!

Disney Skyliner – Our Review & 14 Things You Need to Know

disney skyliner travel time

The Disney Skyliner, Walt Disney World’s newest form of transportation, is now available to guests giving them a whole new way to travel around the resort. The Disney Skyliner opened to guests in the fall of 2019. The Skyliner has been a hit with guests. We have ridden it multiple times, any chance we get, and are impressed with how quick and easy it is to travel throughout Walt Disney World.  Here’s everything you need to know about the Disney Skyliner.

1 – Disney’s Latest Form of Transportation – A Most Magical Flight

The Disney Skyliner joins the network of complimentary Walt Disney World transportation options for resort hotel guests allowing them to travel effortlessly around Walt Disney World with a touch of Disney magic. The gondolas join other favorite options, such as the world-famous Walt Disney World monorail system along with ferry boats and water taxis, and one-of-a-kind motor coaches.

One thing that struck us as we rode was just how different this option is from the other forms of transportation available. Disney could have chosen to just add more buses to the fleet, but they were specifically looking to give guests a whole new way to experience the resort. We had a chance to speak with Dean Huspen, Principle Architect at Walt Disney Imagineering, and he expanded this idea about the Skyliner. Check out the video below.

This “most magical flight on Earth” connects Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios to Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and  Disney’s Riviera Resort , a Disney Vacation Club resort. But the whole experience is so much more than just a way to get from point A to point B. The Disney Skyliner is an attraction on its own, one that is not only a whole lot of fun but comfortable and even peaceful.

2 – Disney Skyliner Stations

There are five Skyliner stations and three Skyiner lines. Note that when traveling from point to point, you will be required to exit the gondola and then get in the queue again to keep going on your trip. You cannot, for safety reasons, just stay on. For instance, if you get on at Art of Animation, you’ll need to get off at Disney’s Caribbean Beach and then get in the queue for either the Disney’s Hollywood Studios line or the Epcot line. Disney’s Caribbean Beach is the central hub, and you can easily access all points from this station. There are well-marked signs to ensure that you are in the right queue, but if you’re not sure, simply ask a Cast Member to point you in the right direction.

disney skyliner travel time

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the design of these stations are unique and fit in perfectly with their locations.

  • The Epcot International Gateway station is inspired by the nearby European pavilions in the park. Covered metal and glass canopies, hand-painted murals themed to flight, and ornate metal detailing are all in the Art Nouveau style.
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort station incorporates influences from the Mediterranean coast to produce an elegant portal for guests.
  • The Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort station connects all three routes and extends the architectural details and bright island colors associated with the Caribbean.
  • The Disney’s Hollywood Studios station reflects the Art Deco-style of the park’s main entrance area. Guests arriving on Disney Skyliner will be awestruck as a panoramic view of the park unfolds.
  • Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort share a Disney Skyliner station at Hourglass Lake. Colorful structural forms create a space that feels whimsical and contextual with both resorts. Departing the station, guests will glide above Hourglass Lake and ascend to thrilling views of both resort hotels.

3 – Gondolas Design

As you might expect, the outside of the gondolas has been designed with a bit of Disney magic. Nearly half of the approximately 300 Disney Skyliner cabins are wrapped in whimsical Disney scenes – with beloved characters, fan-favorite movies, attractions, and more – giving the appearance that Disney pals are riding along with guests. The other cabins are one of eight vibrant colors and feature sleek curved lines. Keep in mind that wrapped gondolas are harder to see out of because of the wraps; however, you can see clearly out of doors. You might not get a choice of which kind of gondola you ride in, but at least you’ll know what to expect as far as your view goes.

disney skyliner travel time

4 – Inside the Gondolas – Temperature

Let’s talk about the inside of the gondolas. One bit of information that was released ahead of time that shocked most people was the fact that there is no air conditioning inside the cabins. Knowing the hot Florida sun will be beating down on these gondolas most of the year, the number one question we received ahead of time, and what everyone wants to know, is how hot it is inside. I was pleasantly surprised at just how comfortable our rides were. During one ride experience, it was noon, and the temperature was a very warm 90 degrees with bright sun, the usual high humidity that we experience in Central Florida. We couldn’t tell inside. What makes all the difference is that vented openings give strong breezes inside the gondola (see photo below). Many in our party had their hair noticeably being blown about. Compared to the other forms of transportation, this ride isn’t any worse, considering the temperature. For instance, the air-conditioned monorail is usually very warm because the doors are open so much, and when it’s crowded, it can be very stuffy inside. The Disney Skyliner experience was so much more comfortable than those warm rides on the monorail! While many were concerned about the temperatures in the gondolas, we’re happy to report that guests need not be concerned!

disney skyliner travel time

5 – Inside the Gondolas – Roominess

The other aspect that makes the ride inside the gondola so comfortable is it’s not crowded. The gondolas fit up to 10 people. While we never had more than six adults in our cabins, there was plenty of room for more. There are benches on both sides of the gondola, and you must remain seated during your flight. This ensures that you’ll be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. You won’t be crammed in like the bus or monorail. It makes for a really lovely ride experience.

6 – Wheelchair, ECV, and Stroller Friendly Cabins

Note that wheelchairs, ECVs, and strollers are allowed inside. Children do NOT need to get out of their strollers to ride unless the stroller is too wide to fit through the door. The space between the benches is not as wide as some double strollers may be, so parents, be prepared to break down your stroller if needed.

There is also a separate line for guests needing additional time to board. These cabins are set apart so that guests with wheelchairs or strollers can board safely without the gondola moving. It also means the other gondolas will not start and stop repeatedly. Disney Cast members will operate the system to allow these gondolas to easily rejoin the mainline. It’s a fantastic system that was very well thought out.

disney skyliner travel time

7 – Amazing Views

The Disney Skyliner soars above waterways and wooded areas alike on its way to theme parks and Disney resort hotels, and guests are treated to views never before seen. On the Disney Skyliner, guests will discover bird’s-eye views of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Approaches to Epcot are equally eye-catching, as the countries around World Showcase Lagoon come into view with iconic Spaceship Earth in the distance.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by DisneyLists.com (@disneylists_com)

8 – A Quiet Way to Travel

The other aspect of the ride experience that surprised me was just how peaceful the ride was. While riding up in the sky, it’s so quiet and tranquil. You can sit, relax, and take in the beautiful views. The Disney Skyliner is a very popular way to travel around the Walt Disney World Resort.

9 – Quick and Efficient Travel Option

What’s also amazing about the Disney Skyliner is how fast it is. From the Art of Animation/Pop Century station to Disney’s Caribbean Beach station is a short three-minute ride. From Caribbean Beach to Hollywood Studios is also a few short minutes. From Caribbean Beach to Epcot is under ten minutes. You don’t have to worry about traffic, stop lights, etc., slowing the trip down. We previously mentioned that gondolas are pulled off the mainline for boarding wheelchairs and strollers, so stops while traveling should be minimal; however, it is normal that the Skyliner will stop now and again. Disney has signs posted to let guests know that the Skyliner will stop here and there. The good news is the stops are usually short, and it is not too bad.

10 – A New Easy Way to Resort Hop

In addition to convenient theme park access, guests staying at Disney resort hotels accessible by Disney Skyliner will have quick-and-easy transportation to a world of other dining and entertainment options. These include all the fun of Disney’s Boardwalk entertainment district, access to Epcot through the International Gateway station, and restaurants and recreation found at the resort hotels serviced by Disney Skyliner.

This is a huge benefit that shouldn’t be overlooked. Before the Disney Skyliner, traveling from resort to resort was challenging. You had to travel to a park or Disney Springs and then transfer to a bus for the resort. You could get a taxi or Uber, but those are not free. The Disney Skyliner changes all that. Want an evening at Disney’s Boardwalk? Then simply travel to Epcot on the Skyliner and walk over. This also works for dining at Cape May Café at Disney’s Beach Club Resort or seeing the Gingerbread display at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Want to try that latest Disney cupcake at Art of Animation? Just hop on the Skyliner and make a visit. Disney’s Riviera Resort also has a station and offers the best character breakfast and signature dining with amazing views at Topolino’s Terrace. We recently stayed at Riviera Resort, and it was so nice to just hop on the Skyliner at night to go see Harmonious at Epcot.

disney skyliner travel time

11 – Disney’s Caribbean Beach – The Place to Be

We think it’s worth mentioning that if you’re not sure where to stay on your next Walt Disney World vacation, you’ll want to seriously consider Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. Not only is it a fantastic moderate resort, but as the hub of the Disney Skyliner, you’ll be in a terrific location to easily access Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Need a little bit more sleep in the morning? Want to head back to the room for an afternoon nap or a swim without it taking up too much time? When the time to travel is under five minutes to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it makes that option so much easier and more practical to do. Also, dropping into Epcot for an evening at World Showcase is also that much easier.

12 – Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Co

Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Co. ® , the official specialty coffee of Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, and Disney Vacation Club, welcomes guests with a quick-service location adjacent to the station at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. The menu of coffees, pastries, and specialty items will include the new “Toffee Flight Latte” found initially only at the station. The latte blends sea salt caramel toffee and dark chocolate, topped with toffee and chocolate crumbles and a cloud of whipped cream.

14 – Overall Thoughts

We can’t say enough about the Disney Skyliner. Our expectations were high, and Disney exceeded them. We think Disney has hit a home run with the Disney Skyliner and brought guests a fun, efficient, and magical way to travel throughout the resort! A Look at Disney’s Skyliner Travel Times

by Megan Nugent · February 16, 2019

Disney Skyliner

One of the most anticipated additions to the Walt Disney Resort this year is the Skyliner. Guests have been following along with the construction throughout the property and more recently hoping to catch a glimpse of what to expect.

Just the other day, Disney’s newest transportation system reached another milestone . The Skyliner officially began testing between Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

Skyliner Travel Times

As the opening date draws nearer and nearer, many are wondering what to expect as far as Skyliner travel times. Will the Skyliner be more effective than Disney’s bus system? And more importantly, will it be  faster ?

A while back, @bioreconstruct did some investigating and provided us with some estimates on the Skyliner travel times between each location.

disney skyliner travel time

Source: Twitter @bioreconstruct

Art of Animation/Pop Century

Skyliner Travel Times

Estimated travel times (including line transfers), for guests who will be boarding the Skyliner at Disney’s Art of Animation and Disney’s Pop Century Resorts, are as follows:

  • Caribbean Beach Resort:  3 minutes 16 seconds (appx 34 minutes by bus including transfer)
  • Hollywood Studios:  12 minutes 5 seconds  (appx 12 minutes by bus)
  • Riviera Resort:  10 minutes 27 seconds
  • Epcot:  17 minutes 29 seconds  (appx 12 minutes by bus)

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

Skyliner Travel Times

The estimated travel times for guests boarding the Skyliner at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort  are as follows:

  • Hollywood Studios:  3 minutes 49 seconds  (appx 12 minutes by bus)
  • Epcot:  9 minutes 13 seconds  (appx 12 minutes by bus)
  • Riviera Resort:  2 minutes 11 seconds
  • Art of Animation/Pop Century Resorts:  3 minutes 16 seconds  (appx 34 minutes by bus including transfer)

Disney’s Riviera Resort

Skyliner Travel Times

The estimated travel times for guests who will be boarding the Skyliner at Disney’s Riviera Resort  are as follows:

  • Epcot:  6 minutes 2 seconds
  • Hollywood Studios:  11 minutes
  • Caribbean Beach Resort:  2 minutes 11 seconds
  • Art of Animation/Pop Century Resorts:  10 minutes 27 seconds

Overall, it seems that the Skyliner is going to be much more efficient than the current busing situation. Considering the gondola will run continuously and will not have to fight traffic, it may quickly become the preferred method of transportation.

Although, if you’re staying at Art of Animation or Pop Century and heading to Epcot , you may want to consider sticking with the bus.

Either way, we can’t wait for the Skyliner to begin running this Fall so we can try it for ourselves. In the meantime, keep following along with MickeyBlog for more updates.

I think a lot depends on itineraries, how long a wait to get on the skylines, if your in a hurry take the bus if u feel better times wise I think either way it’s what u see that you won’t see on a bus. I will ride it either or. Like I say what’s in your intinariy .

Thanks MB,like you said its approximate time but if u think about it you get a sit down on the skyline not stand ( I hope) for 12 or longer as on a bus,I myself have trouble standing for a lengthy time, I’m 67 I can still get around good but with bad knees its tough standing, i hate standing. I hate standing n an overcrowded bus it’s hard standing still while moving. Thanks for the info

' data-src=

Hi Dean! I agree- standing in an overcrowded bus is no fun! I’m excited to see how things change once the Skyliner opens. Hopefully, it’s a much-needed reprieve for many of us.

' data-src=

I don’t see anything in your article about not having to wait for the bus. This can be a 0-20 + minute wait that, hopefully, we won’t have with the gondola. When you factor that in, the gondola wins from every resort.

Hi Shelly! We are comparing travel times- not wait times. You never know what the lines will look like at the Skyliner or when the next bus is arriving at the resort as you mentioned. For example, if lines are long for the Skyliner and a bus just arrives with no one in line for it, I personally would still take the bus. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out once it opens!

History of the Walt Disney World Skyliner

Disneyland had Skyway , which connected Fantasyland and Tomorrowland.

Magic Kingdom had its own version of Skyway that closed in 1999, with its Fantasyland and Tomorrowland stations demolished in the early 2000s to make way for other projects, mainly New Fantasyland.

Tokyo Disneyland had one upon its opening in 1983. To this day, Skyway no longer exists at any of these parks.

However the Fantasyland and Tomorrowland stations at Tokyo Disneyland were repurposed for newer park experiences.

But like most things at Disney Parks, an idea tends to not be gone forever.

The past has a way of inserting itself into the future projects or coming back in a different incarnation.

2. Get to Your Station Early

If you plan to use Disney Skyliner to rope drop EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios, plan to get to your station about an hour before.

3. Choose the Perfect Room

As a travel agent, if one of your main points of booking a Disney Skyliner access hotel is the Skyliner itself, you may want to book the following rooms at these resorts to be nearby:

  • For Caribbean Beach , the main hub, will be Jamaica, Aruba and Barbados.
  • Pop Century and the Art of Animation don’t have internal bus systems like Caribbean Beach does so just be aware you will have a long walk to the lobby. But for both, I would request or book a water view room .

Planning The Magic

Disney Skyliner Gondola System: Map, FAQ, and More

In September of 2019, Disney’s Skyliner opened up. It created an entirely new magical way to get from select resorts and theme parks. Also known as the Disney gondola system, let’s take a look at the Disney Skyliner map and discuss everything there is to know!

Knowing how to travel between the parks and resorts is important to any visitor to Walt Disney World. Between all of the different types of transportation at Disney World, it can be difficult and confusing to choose the best way to travel. That is even more true for newer modes of transportation, such as the Disney Skyliner, that not a lot of people have experience with.

Veterans of Disney World may remember the Skyway , a gondola lift ride at Disneyland, and the Magic Kingdom, which closed over 20 years ago!  In 2019 Disney brought the memory of the Skyway back as a new convenient way to travel between some of the parks and resorts called the Disney Skyliner.

This post will explain the Disney Skyliner map and give you all the information you will need to know to ride the new Disney Skyliners with ease!

To see some other Walt Disney World transportation maps and maps that were updated with information relating to COVID-19, check out this post about the Walt Disney World maps !

What does the Disney Skyliner Cost?

If you are trying to do Disney on a budget, it is important to know the cost of everything before you go. Luckily for you, the Disney Skyliner is free transportation for any guest visiting Walt Disney World just like the other buses, boats, and monorails around the parks!

This is the same whether or not you are staying at a Disney resort property, making it even more convenient for people doing Disney on a budget.

If you want other tips on visiting Disney World on a budget, check out these 50 tips for Doing Disney on a Budget!

Which Disney Parks have the Skyliner?

Later, will discuss the various resorts and routes the Skyliners takes but let’s start with the parks that have Disney Skyliner stops.

Epcot is on the Skyliner route. It leaves you at the back entrance, which usually has less traffic than the front.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also part of the Disney Skyliner route. It lets you off near the bus station which is in front of the park.

The Skyliner changes the game for park hopping. You can now get to Epcot from Hollywood Studios in less than half the time. And in addition, you can go from Epcot to Magic Kingdom using the monorail system. This removes the need to get on a Disney bus!

How many people fit in a Disney Skyliner?

The standard Disney Skyliner gondola has the capacity to accommodate 10 guests riding in it at a time. While this might not seem like a lot compared to some of the other transportation methods in the parks, they have around 300 gondolas running along the Skyliner route, which lets them transport almost 4,500 guests per hour!

What about wheelchairs or ECVs on the Disney Skyliner?

There are special gondolas that are designed to accommodate wheelchairs and ECVs. These Disney Skyliner gondolas are able to fit 6 guests.

Strollers on the Disney Skyliner

Of course, you are allowed to bring a stroller with you on the Disney Skyliner. However, it must fit within the size requirements set by the parks (generally 31 inches wide by 52 inches long).

If you have a stroller that is on the larger side,  you may be asked to fold it before boarding the gondola. This is almost always the case if you have a double stroller, even if it is a smaller size. B

ringing a stroller on the Disney Skyliner may also reduce the capacity of the gondola from 10 guests to 6, so keep that in mind if you are traveling in a large group.

Disney Skyliner Map

Here is the Disney gondola map.

disney skyliner travel time

How fast is the Disney Skyliner?

The Disney Skyliner is a relatively fast way to travel between the resorts and the parks.

They will travel nearly 11 mph at their top speed and will slow down to 1 mph when they arrive at a station.

The Disney Skyliner never fully stops to keep things moving quickly for everyone riding. Cast Members are able to slow down the Skyliner even further than 1 mph to accommodate guests that need more time to get on or off of the gondola.

If you are someone who might need extra time to get on the gondola, be sure to let the Cast Member in charge know so that they can make sure to slow it down for you.

How high is the Disney Skyliner?

The Skyliner system reaches a maximum height of about 60 feet off the ground. While this is not nearly as high as the Tower of Terror or Expedition Everest, it might still be uncomfortable for people afraid of heights.

Is there AC or Heat on the Disney Skyliners?

There is no AC or heat on the Disney Skyliners, but there are air vents designed to allow good airflow from the air outside. Florida is known for its hot temperatures, but the speed and height of the Skyliner combined with the air vents usually make it a comfortable ride.

Which Disney Resorts Will Have The Skyliner?

As you can see on the Disney Skyliner map above, the Skyliner has stations at four of the Disney Resorts.

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has the largest station near the Jamaica area of the resort. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and Disney’s Pop Century Resort share a station on the generation gap over hourglass lake. Finally, the new Disney Riviera Resort has a station.

Transferring on the Disney Skyliner

In order to make your Disney Skyliner journey smooth, it is important to know when you will need to get on and off the gondolas for transfers. This is especially true because the gondolas don’t come to a full stop when they reach a station and instead move slowly at about 1 mph.

There are two big things to remember to minimize confusion while riding the Skyliner. The first is that transferring usually happens at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, as that is the main hub for the Disney Skyliner.

The second is that EPCOT and Disney’s Art of Animation/Disney’s Pop Century Resorts are the two ends of the Disney gondola map and always require getting off of the gondola when you reach the station.

Next, we will go a little more in-depth at what happens at each station on the Disney Skyliner map.

Disney Skyliner Stations

If you are arriving at EPCOT, you will need to get off of the gondola no matter what as it is one end of the Skyliner route. If you need to continue your journey, you will need to get back in line to take a different gondola.

Leaving EPCOT, you will need to get off of the gondola at the Caribbean Beach Resort if you are going anywhere besides Disney’s Riviera Resort.

Art of Animation/Pop Century

Arriving at Disney’s Art of Animation/Pop Century Resorts, you will need to get off of the gondola in the same way that you need to get off at EPCOT. This is the other end of the Skyliner map so will require getting back in line if you find yourself needing to continue your ride.

Leaving Art of Animation/Pop Century Resorts, you do not need to transfer if you are going to Hollywood Studios. Otherwise, you will need to get off at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort if you are going to EPCOT or Disney’s Riviera Resort.

Caribbean Beach Resort

This is the main hub of the Skyliner, so it has the largest station and is where most transfers happen.

If you are leaving from the Caribbean Beach Resort, you can enjoy a non-stop ride to any of the other stations from here.

Riviera Resort

This station is not a transfer point which means that guests who want to get off at the Riviera Resort simply need to stand up and leave the gondola as it slows down and approaches the station. Otherwise, you do not need to get off at the Riviera Resort, and the gondola ride will continue seamlessly.

If you are leaving Riviera Resort, you do not need to transfer if you are going to EPCOT. All other destinations from Riviera Resort will require transferring to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

Hollywood Studios

If you are leaving Hollywood Studios and are going to Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts, you do not need to transfer gondolas.

If you are leaving Hollywood Studios and are going to EPCOT or Disney’s Riviera Resort, you will need to transfer to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

Disney Gondola Hours

The Skyliner is similar to other forms of Disney transportation in that it will open 30-60 minutes before the park opens and close 1-1 1/2 hours after the park closes every day.

The official Disney Skyliner operating hours are not specified, so you’ll have to estimate when the parks will open on the day you want to use them. If the parks are scheduled to open at 9 a.m., the Disney Skyliner should be operational by 8:00 a.m. that day.

The Disney Skyliner’s schedule was changed last year to 6:45 am-10:30 pm to fit the new opening hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios during the holiday season.

Rope Drop the Disney Parks with the Disney Skyliner

The Disney Skyliner is a great way to beat the crowds and get to the parks early(ish)!

However, a true rope drop means getting to the park 30 minutes before it opens, which means the Skyliner is not a good option because it will not get you there on time.

If you want to rope drop any of the parks, I recommend taking an Uber, Lyft, or Minnie Van.

The Best Times to Take the Disney Skyliner

The best time to take the Skyliner is first thing in the morning when the parks open or last thing at night when they close.

The reason for this is that the lines at the Skyliner stations get longer as the day goes on. In the morning, everyone is rushing to get to the parks, and in the evening, everyone is trying to get back to their resort.

If you want to avoid the crowds, I recommend taking the Skyliner mid-day when people are in the parks and not thinking about transportation.

The Best Time to Avoid the Disney Skyliner

The worst time to take the Skyliner is during the middle of the day when everyone is in the parks and not thinking about transportation. The lines at the Skyliner stations get longer as the day goes on.

Skyliner Gondola Exterior

The exterior of the cabins features colorful artwork inspired by Disney films and attractions.

There are seven colors- Blue, Red, Green, Yellow, Orange, Purple, and Teal. And 22 different character gondolas to ride in.

Temperature Inside the Skyliner

Since the gondolas do not have AC but air cooling, it isn’t cold while you ride them.

Most reports state that the temperature inside the building is not exceeding the outside temperature.

How Long Are The Rides On Disney Skyliner?

On average, a Skyliner Ride will take between 5-10 minutes, depending on which station you are getting on and off. The longest a Disney Skyliner Ride will take is about 20 minutes (plus transfer time) if you are going to or from the end of the Disney Skyliner map at EPCOT and starting or ending at any station besides Disney’s Caribbean Resort or Disney’s Riviera Resort.

The following times show how long a Disney Skyliner Ride can take starting from the main station at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. All times are approximate and can vary depending on if you have to transfer to another gondola to get from one end of the line to another.

  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort to Disney’s Pop Century Resort or Disney’s Art of Animation Resort: 6 minutes
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort to Disney’s Hollywood Studios: 5-6 minutes
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort to Disney’s Riviera Resort: 5 minutes
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort to International Gateway at Epcot: 15 minutes
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort to International Gateway at Epcot: 9 minutes

Now that you know everything there is to know about the Disney Skyliner and have seen the Disney Skyliner map, you can focus on the more fun aspects of planning your trip to Disney, like buying unique Disney shirts for the whole family!

And while we sometimes recommend driving a car to Walt Disney World we are also big advocates for just taking the plane there and planning to be stranded at Disney for your vacation. Don’t worry, it’s actually quite liberating and not that scary. In fact, it actually has a term; the Disney Bubble. Being in the Disney Bubble, not only means you leave the real world behind, but also most of the responsibilities too. Whether it’s making your meals, or driving from one place to another…all those things can be done for you at Disney World. Meaning that you get to sit back and relax instead. Still, you’ll will need to know which bus, monorail, or boat to hail to get where you’re going. Let’s dive into all the Transportation at Walt Disney World options.

Getting To and From the Orlando International Airport to Walt Disney World

Getting to and from the Orlando International Airport ( MCO) to Walt Disney World isn’t difficult. But, it does cost something. You can choose a ride-share service, like Uber, for a flat rate cost for whoever can fit in the car you choose in the app. Or you can pay a per-person fee for a service like Mears Connect. You can also use a good old fashioned Taxi Service. No matter which you choose you will have to add this to your Disney Budget. Because Disney World DOES NOT have a free shuttle from the Orlando Airport. As such you will have to plan for one of the following.

  • Hire a Shuttle Bus from Orlando Airport to Disney World
  • Hail an Uber/ Lyft or Taxi

Buses at Disney World

The main transportation service available at every Disney Resort are the Disney Buses. As the main mode of transportation across the entire property, there are some resorts, like the Value Resorts , for which Disney buses are their only form of transportation.

Where do Disney Buses Go?

When staying on property at Disney World, you can catch Disney Buses to and from most places, but there are rules. Disney Buses from Disney Resorts go to the Disney Parks, Water Parks and Disney Springs. Disney Buses from Disney Springs only go to Disney Resorts, ( Not Parks). And Disney Buses from the Parks go to Disney Resorts, and sometimes, other parks. Buses generally cannot be taken from one resort to get to another resort.

Typically, Disney Buses are scheduled to  arrive every 15-20 minutes at the bus stations across Walt Disney World. However, this is pretty untrue much of the time, especially if you’re visiting during peak season. If taking the buses anywhere, allow yourself about an hour or so of travel time. Buses can be taken from the resorts to the Parks, Water Parks, and Disney Springs. Your best bet is to check the resort page within the My Disney Experience App for the Bus Times tab, so that you can see the arrival times for each bus at your home resort. Here are some general Bus rules to remember for Walt Disney World.

Disney Bus Information

  • You can get a Disney Bus from your Disney Resort to any of the four Disney Parks, two Water Parks and Disney Springs.
  • Disney Springs buses only travel to the Disney Resorts, not the parks.
  • Disney Buses do not travel between Disney Resorts. This is important to remember if you’re visiting a resort for a late dinner reservation. As you won’t be able to travel from one resort to another, you will have to get a bus to a park first, and transfer from there to your Resort Bus.
  • Sometimes you can get a Disney Bus from one park to another. For example, right now if you’re at Magic Kingdom, you would be able to catch a bus to either Disney’s Animal Kingdom, or Hollywood Studios. But would have to catch the Monorail if you wanted to visit EPCOT.
  • Disney Buses typically start running about 45 minutes before a parks opening time, and about 60 minutes after a parks closing time. These times adjust accordingly for both Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Theme Park hours.

Disney World Monorail Transportation

One of the marvels of a Disney World Vacation is being able to enjoy the monorail. This train in the sky connects two separate areas at Walt Disney World: The Disney Monorail Resorts and The Transportation and Ticket Center Line. Both monorail lines are accessible from the Transportation Ticket Center (TTC) and allow transportation by monorail from Magic Kingdom to EPCOT, with a transfer at the TTC. Here’s what you need to know about the two monorails at Disney World.

The Disney Monorail Resorts and Magic Kingdom Line

With access just outside the Magic Kingdom front gates, the Disney Monorail Resort Line connects three resorts, and the TTC.  The Resorts Monorail stops at Magic Kingdom, The Contemporary Resort, the Transportation Ticket Center (TTC), The Polynesian ( and Shades of Green), and The Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. This “highway in the sky” creates one loop that will take you to and from Magic Kingdom.

  • Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
  • The Polynesian Village Resort
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort

The TTC and Epcot Monorail Line

Accessible from the main entrance of Magic Kingdom and the TTC, a second loop will take you to Epcot.  If you want to go from one loop to the other, simply switch monorails at the Ticket and Transportation Center stop. The TTC is also where you will take the monorail to get to Magic Kingdom, as the TTC is also Magic Kingdom’s Parking Lot.

Disney World Boat  Transportation

Another form of transportation at Disney world is by boat. There are several kinds of boats available. Some take you from the parking lot, others take you between resorts and parks. Depending on where you are going, you may be able to take a boat to the parks, your resort, and even other resorts. While boats are definitely the least crowded of the options, they are also the slowest. Allow for about 20 minutes of travel time to get to your destination, depending on where you’re going. Check out all the Disney Resorts that offer Boat Service .

Ferry Boat to Magic Kingdom

If you are driving to Magic Kingdom, you will have to park at the TTC; Transportation Ticket Center. Once there you can choose between taking the Magic Kingdom Ferry or the Monorail to go to Magic Kingdom. Your choice! The  Ferry to Magic Kingdom offers a panoramic view of the front of the park, as well as great views of the Monorail Resorts that surround the lagoon. It’s slower and more leisurely than the monorail. So if you’re not in a rush, take the time to take in the views of the Lagoon. You can catch a boat about 45 minutes before park opening and 45 minutes after at 15-20 minute intervals.

Boats To and From Magic Kingdom Park

The boats leaving Magic Kingdom not only include the Ferry, but also smaller boats that go to the nearby resorts. Resorts in the Magic Kingdom Area have access to the boats to and from Magic Kingdom throughout the day. Offering an alternative mode of transportation for those who don’t want to take the monorail or buses. One boat route includes visits to Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness Resort and Campgrounds. While the other boat route offers transportation to the Polynesian, and Grand Floridian Resort.

Boats To and From EPCOT Park

The main boat station at EPCOT is located at the International Gateway, at the back of the park. If you are staying at one of the BoardWalk Resorts , or one of the Disney Marriott Hotels, then you can grab a boat at the dock to bring you to the Epcot International Gateway.

Boats within EPCOT Park also allow you to travel from one side of the World Showcase ( at the port of call shops) to the other (America Pavilion). This is especially helpful if you have kids or can’t walk long distances, or just need a break! Just grab a boat.

Boats To and From Hollywood Studios

At Hollywood Studios you can also grab a boat right outside the entrance that brings you to the Boardwalk Resorts (Boardwalk Inn, The Yacht Club or The Beach Club), the Swan and Dolphin Hotels, and back to the EPCOT International Gateway. This is especially helpful if you’re traveling back and forth between Hollywood Studios and EPCOT, but don’t want to take the walking path.

Boats To and From Disney Springs

Disney Springs shopping center also has boat service that could be helpful if you’re staying at Port Orleans Riverside Resort or Port Orleans French Quarter. The boats at Disney Springs run between 10:30 AM- 11:30 PM.

Disney Skyliner  Transportation

Another form of complimentary transportation at Walt Disney World is the Disney Skyliner. And it is a great way to skip the crowds and see the views while you travel across the sky. Check out our quick guide to the Disney Skyliner. This form of transportation offers seating for up to 10 people in one car and guests are often seated together. There are two Skyliner routes; one to EPCOT Park and one to Hollywood Studios Park.  Both begin at the Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and if coming from the Art of Animation or Pop Century Resorts you will need to transfer to which route you need. Disney’s Caribbean Beach resort and Disney’s Riviera Resort are also along the Skyliner route.

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is the TRANSFER station for the Disney Skyliner. This means you will have to get out of the skyliner at this stop. From here you can choose several paths on the skyliner.

  • You can visit the Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts
  • Head to Hollywood Studios
  • Or head towards the Disney’s Riviera Resort, which continues onto EPCOT.

Disney Walking Paths

While transportation in the travel sense, you don’t need to use transportation to take advantage of the walking paths at Walt Disney World. From helping resort guests get to the parks, to hidden spaces like the BoardWalk, you can find Disney Walking Paths at Walt Disney World of all shapes and sizes. Luckily, there are even a few Disney Resorts that are within Walking Distance of the Parks to help you avoid transportation all together.

Resorts Within Walking Distance to Magic Kingdom

The walking path at Magic Kingdom goes in two separate directions, but does not connect like a loop. Instead, if you are leaving the park and choosing to go to the Contemporary, you turn left. Whereas if you’re headed to the Grand Floridian and Polynesian Resorts, you simply walk behind the monorail stations and turn right.

Resorts Within Walking Distance to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios

This area of Disney World is considered the Disney BoardWalk Area. With a large open boardwalk that surrounds the lagoon, you can walk to and from all these resorts as well as to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. If you’re staying at any of these resorts, you are in walking distance of these two parks. and won’t need to use other transportation unless you choose.

  • Dolphin Hotel
  • Swan Reserve
  • Disney’s Boardwalk Inn

Other Walking Paths at Disney World

In addition to using walking paths to get to and from the parks to the resorts, you can also use them as shortcuts at Disney World parks. Plus, if you’re staying at sister resorts there are several walking path options for you to enjoy. Making it easer to access multiple resorts at once. Here are the connecting paths that help you walk from resort to resort at Disney World.

  • Animal Kingdom Lodge has a walking path that connects Kidani Village and Jambo House , making it easy to go back and forth for dining reservations, and events.
  • The All Star Resorts have walking path, or sidewalk, that connects that All Star Music, All Star Movies and All Star Sports Resorts. Making it easy to take advantage of different spaces, food courts and events.
  • The Port Orleans Resorts have a walking path that connect both Riverside and French Quarter , as well as the other Disney Springs Area Resorts. Old Key West, Saratoga Springs and Disney Springs are all accessible by walking path at the Port Orleans Resorts.
  • The Magic Kingdom Walking Path connects both the Grand Floridian Resort and the Polynesian Village Resort.
  • There is a riverside path that connects EPCOT and Hollywood Studios by walking path , allowing you to easily park hop between those two parks.

Transportation from Disney Springs to Walt Disney World

One of the most confusing elements of the Walt Disney World Transportation Options is its bus service to and from Disney Springs. If you are staying in a Hotel Near Disney Springs , then you’re probably wondering if that gets you closer to the parks. The answer to that is NO. Staying at a Disney Springs Hotel does not get you within walking distance of Walt Disney World Theme Parks. That said, we do have a list of Disney Resorts within walking distance of Disney Springs.

If you’re staying at a Disney Springs Hotel, how do you get to Walt Disney World Parks? If your Hotel doesn’t have a shuttle to each Disney Theme Park, this is what you can do. In order to get to a Disney World Park from Disney Springs you can take any Disney Resort Bus from the Disney Springs Bus Depot. But choose wisely. Because once you arrive at the Disney Resort, you will then have to transfer to a Disney Parks Bus, from the resort. So which Disney Resort Bus should you choose? Here’s A quick breakdown, of the resorts closest to each park, that provide you the shortest bus ride to the park you’re trying to get to. Check out our Disney Springs transportation guide for all the details.

From Disney Springs to Magic Kingdom

Once at Disney Springs, you can grab a bus to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, Polynesian Resort, OR Disney’s Contemporary Resort. All are on the Disney Monorail Line, which stops at Magic Kingdom. To get the closest you can c hoose the Grand Floridian Resort Bus and take the monorail to Magic Kingdom. OR choose the Contemporary Resort and take the walking path, about 5 minutes to the Magic Kingdom gates.

From Disney Springs to EPCOT

If heading to EPCOT from Disney Springs, you will want to get a bus to any of the Disney BoardWalk Resorts . These include Disney’s Beach Club, Yacht Club, and the Boardwalk Inn Resort. All of these are within walking distance of EPCOT Park’s back entrance, known as the International Gateway. The get the closest to this Epcot gate, choose the Disney Beach Club Bus, then walk through the lobby and out onto the BoardWalk. From there, you simply turn left at the beach and walk until you reach the gates of EPCOT.

From Disney Springs to Hollywood Studios

Disney Springs to Hollywood Studios means grabbing one of the buses to the Disney BoardWalk or to one of the Swan and Dolphin Hotels. Any of these resorts will get you close to the gates, but there are options. To get the closest, but without walking, you can choose the Disney Swan and Dolphin Bus. This gets close to the walking path between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios but also gets you close to the boat dock. You can then transfer from the bus to the boat heading to Hollywood Studios or walk the path. Alternatively, you can also choose the Beach Club Resort Bus, and head towards the Skyliner Gondola station just outside the EPCOT gates. Then take the Skyliner Gondola to Hollywood Studios. Both options get you to Hollywood Studios from Disney Springs.

From Disney Springs to Animal Kingdom

By far the easiest Disney World theme park to get to from Disney Springs, Animal Kingdom Park only has one nearby resort. And that’s Animal Kingdom Lodge . This Deluxe Resort at Walt Disney World is a great place to stop anyway for up-close views of animals roaming the savanna and a bite to eat at Sanaa . To get to Animal Kingdom Park from Disney Springs simply take the Animal Kingdom Lodge Bus, and then transfer to the Animal Kingdom bus once you’re at the resort.

Driving to Disney World

In a hurry and don’t want to wait that long for a ride to get where you’re going? Here are some of your alternatives if you decide to bring a car to Walt Disney World.  Drive.  Driving allows you the most freedom when you’re at Disney, but keep in mind, traffic can be stressful. You’re still in Orlando. If you’re an annual pass holder or if you’re staying on the property, the $25 parking fee will be waived. That said, there are reasons to drive to be sure!

If you’re staying at a Disney Resort, your parking fee at the theme parks is waived, and you do not have to pay to park at the resort either. As such, you will not be charged for bringing your car. While this hasn’t always been the case, we’re so grateful that we get the freedom to have car if we need one. A car allows you the opportunity to go pick up pizza, or head to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter , and other areas of Orlando. And while navigating the parking lots and trams and traffic, when you’re driving, it may be easier than navigating the buses if you have small children with strollers.

Renting an Uber, Lyft or Taxi

Another option for getting to and from the parks, and anywhere else you want to go is by using a ride for hire service. Uber has gotten a lot more expensive since we first started taking it on property, but there are designated areas where you can catch your rideshare at each park. Note that Uber drivers are not allowed near the Magic Kingdom park gates, so you will still need to take the monorail to the TTC in order to meet your driver. Or walk to the Contemporary Resort and have them pick you up there.

Walt Disney World Minnie Vans

This posh option in Disney transportation is available for a hefty cost, but may be your best bet if you’re in a pinch. This van dressed up like Minnie is easy to spot and Super cute. Available to book through the Lyft App, you can check out the Disney Minnie Van Guide for details on current prices, tips and services.

Getting Around Disney World

There you have it, all the transportation options at Disney World. Whether you’re visiting for a day or a week, there are plenty of options to help you get to where you’re going. Because whether we’re staying late at a Disney After Hours Party or walking up early to rope drop our favorite rides, the transportation can make or break those plans. Standing in line for buses at 1 AM after a party, or even at 9 PM with the fireworks crowds always make us aware of how much transportation can affect our trip. Choose wisely!
