Our nightly rates vary based on the time of year are listed below.  You will need to schedule a pickup window for your Mercedes Sprinter camper van rental.  Vans are available for pick up after 11:00am on the first day of your rental and are due back by 1PM on the final day of your rental ($250 minimum charge for late returns).  If these times don’t work for you, please contact us and we may be able to work something out. Additionally, we will do our best to keep you in the van you reserve. However, we may need to move you to another van in order to perform maintenance or maximize our utilization.

High Season – May thru September* (4 night minimum)

• Plus 10.25% Seattle Sales Tax and 7.7% rental car tax

Low Season – October thru April* (2 night minimum)

Your rental includes 150 miles per rental night with additional miles charged at $.55/mile.  For rentals longer than 10 nights, we offer a 10% discount. Please return the van in clean condition. We thoroughly clean each van in between rentals, but an exceptionally dirty van will incur an additional $100 minimum cleaning fee.

Deposit and Cancellations

• Your reservation is secured with a 50% deposit
• Full payment is due 1 month before your pick-up date or at reservation time, whichever is less
• Cancellations made prior to 30 days will be fully refunded minus a 1 day rental fee.
• Cancellations made less than 30 days from pick-up cannot be refunded
• A $1,500.00 security deposit is required to protect against damage, unreasonable use, or excessive cleaning requirements. The security deposit will be released within 7 days after returning the vehicle.  This authorization is automatically applied to your credit card used for the reservation 3 days prior to pick up. Any damages that occur to the van or Cascade Adventure Vans property will be deducted from your security deposit.
• Cascade Adventure Vans reserves the right to cancel a reservation at any time (including at pick-up) based upon meeting the rental requirements below.  No refunds will be given if the rental requirements are not met on the day of pick-up.

Rental Requirements

If you plan to drive one of our Mercedes camper van rentals you must meet the following requirements:

• You must be over 25 years of age
• Valid Driver’s license that does not expire during the time of the rental
• We accept foreign driver’s licenses, but if they are in a language other than English you will also have to provide your International Driver’s License (your home country’s license translated to English) Both items are required
• We cannot rent to anyone we suspect is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, incapacitated, or otherwise incapable of operating a motor vehicle safely

Insurance is required on our rentals and must be obtained through our partner, Outdoorsy. 

• There are three levels of coverage ranging in price from $39.95/day to $79.95/day and are listed below.
• All of the packages include full comprehensive and collision coverage with a $1,500 deductible.
• The Basic and Essential packages include the statutory state minimum liability protection for the state where the accident happens (typically $25,000).
• All but the Basic package include Roadside Assistance.
• Insuring RV/Camper Van rentals is a challenging and costly endeavor and we make nothing from your insurance purchase.
• Additionally, credit card policies and your personal automotive policy will not provide the proper coverage for our Mercedes Sprinter camper van rentals and will not be accepted.

We perform a thorough inspection before and after each rental to make sure everything is safe and functioning properly and all routine maintenance is done by certified Mercedes technicians.

• 24 hour roadside assistance is included with the Essential and Peace of Mind insurance packages. If you’d like roadside assistance, we recommend choosing at least the Essential insurance package as it’s cheaper than the Basic package + roadside assistance.
• If you choose to venture out into more remote areas, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for any costs associated with assistance.
• If the issue is not a simple repair, Cascade Adventure Vans will attempt to provide a back-up vehicle.
• However, if a back-up vehicle is not available and your vehicle is not repairable within 24 hours, Cascade Adventure Vans will refund the remaining days in rental fees. Cascade Adventure Vans will not be responsible for additional costs associated to adjusting your plans and our liability is limited to the refund of any remaining rental days.
• Cascade Adventure Vans is not responsible for any costs incurred due to changing travel plans because of any issues including vehicle breakdowns.

Exclusions/Restrictions

• We allow the vans to be driven anywhere within North America (exceptions below apply).
• We do not allow our vans to be taken to Burning Man or Mexico.
• We do no t allow smoking of any kind in our vans (including vaping)
• Our vans are 2×4 and not intended, or allowed, to be used in a true off road setting, heavily wash boarded roads, or overgrown trails that may result in scratch damage to our vans.
• If you are outside of the prescribed area, or are deemed to be on a non-approved road, all costs associated with towing, repair and damage to the van shall be borne by the renter.
• Cascade Adventure Vans is the sole determinant of non-approved roads or other unapproved use of the vehicle. Shoulders, unimproved campsites, and any unpaved roads that are not forest service roads or of similar quality to forest service roads are generally non-approved and “use at your own risk”.

We love animals and welcome you to bring along your well behaved four legged friends.  Our van dog Kaiser asks you to please keep them off the beds and remember an extra cleaning fee will be charged if you do not clean up after your pet. You are responsible for all damage your pet may cause to our vans.

How to Rent a Camper Van in Seattle

Like an RV  but cuter, a tent but warmer. The camper van saw its popularity surge as the nomadic aesthetic blossomed on Instagram. For all its romantic where-the-wind-takes-us implications, the realities of van life take considerable investment—except with someone else’s wheels.

Escape Campervans

The cross-country outfit with more than 600 vehicles in its fleet is rooted in the ancestral home of camper van culture: New Zealand. Founded by a Kiwi, the company specializes in rebirthing boring, industrial vans into unique works of art. With a surfboard artist enlisted to start the program, each automobile gets a custom mural, the side panels exploding with rainbow clouds or abstract animals—about as far from a corporate logo or driving advertisement as it gets. The biggest Fords at the Des Moines base can sleep five people, and kitchens include sinks, stoves, and fridges. A basic rental includes only 100 miles per day but is calculated as an average, so you can follow a long haul with a rest day.

When only a real Volkswagen will do, SoDo’s base for boxy classics serves up the kind of van that looks best through a faded photo filter. The pop-top Vanagons can throw off drivers used to a broad hood between them and the road; the first few turns can feel like piloting a school bus. Since Peace Vans repairs the vintage vehicles, too, they’re in pristine shape despite dating back to the days of shoulder pads and side ponytails. In 2018 the company added to its offerings new Mercedes Metris versions, easier drivers with perks like air-conditioning, and a Mercedes Sprinter big enough to stand up in.

Sure, the beds are queen size, the showers are indoors, and these Ford Transits come equipped with Wi-Fi and televisions. But the real luxury in the Seattle-born company is the top-to-bottom trip planning that comes gratis with every rental. Staffers will build expeditions down to every campground reservation and quirky roadside pull-off, even choosing a destination for the truly plan-challenged. Founder Scott Kubly figured that Americans were leaving their PTO unused because they couldn’t bring themselves to arrange the complex details of a vacation, so the trip planning is even available to nonrenters for a fee. 

Cabana’s vans don’t come with a dog, but they do come with trip-planning help.

Cascade Adventure Vans

The Mercedes Sprinter holds a special place in the taxonomy of vans, its hefty shape big enough to feel like an actual cabin once it’s parked. The Interbay business rents bare-bones models ready to be filled with the renter’s own gear, though they have the requisite kitchenware and French press. Diesel heaters and tire chains allow them to weather even winter overnights. The vans don’t have bathrooms, but add-ons include an outdoor shower and toilet. While comfortable, the setups eschew the glamping label in favor of a utilitarian aesthetic.

Black Forest Westfalias

Van nerd time: The Westfalia label denotes a particular kind of converted van, named for the German region where the build-outs were first done on Volkswagens. Fall City’s Black Forest specializes in the kind of retro VW that could convince you it went to Woodstock; its four-van fleet is from the 1980s. Called Goldie, Gretel, Wolf, and Dutch, each delivers its own personality (snag Gretel for the most striking photos, for example). Owner Mike Kane poured his own VW obsession and a photographer’s affection for spontaneous travel into the company, restoring and maintaining them out of his home. He’ll deliver a rental by hauling a tiny car to the drop-off.

Seattle staycations for the rest of summer, shared by locals

How to seattle.

Sometimes “vacation” can be less of a destination and more of a mindset. 

In an experiment conducted by the University of California, Los Angeles , researchers asked some participants to spend a weekend like they usually would and others to “treat this weekend like a vacation,” whatever that meant to them. When people returned to work on Monday, those who’d reframed their weekend as a mini-vacation reported more happiness and less negativity, even after controlling for how much money they’d spent (and vacationers did spend a bit more).

What contributed to the difference? One factor seemed to be that the vacation group reported paying more attention to the moment at hand, the study found. 

“Even after accounting for differences in time-use, attention to the present moment during the weekend was associated with vacationers’ increased happiness on Monday,” the authors wrote. 

Limited vacation days aside, giving your free time vacation-level treatment — or your full attention — is one way to enjoy Seattle’s lovely, but fleeting summers. Before the season slips away, consider savoring the warm weekends left with a staycation, whether you travel across town, an hour out of the city or not at all. 

One’s staycation mindset may be more important than the activity itself. But for inspiration, we asked Seattle Times readers, and staff at Visit Seattle and other local institutions for their favorite staycation spots and ideas.
