New Trek ProCaliber Gen 3 Hardtail Drops Iso Speed for Flexing Iso Bow Suspension

Lately, it seems we’ve been seeing fewer updated race-hardtails. The surge of mirco-suspension bikes like the Trek SuperCal and the Specialized Epic WC replaced the need for a fully rigid frame. However, nothing beats a pure hardtail’s feel (and zero moving parts to service). Trek feels the same and ditched Iso Speed for a flexible new option on the updated Trek ProCaliber Gen 3.

Do We Still Need Hardtails?

Yes (IMO) but, many of the hardtails we’ve seen have been repurposed into drop bar LifeTime Grand Prix super-gravel racing machines. However, there is still a place for the modern hardtail. Pauline Ferrand Prevot raced her Pinarello Dogma hardtail to an Olympic gold medal this summer. These super lightweight, nimble machines are precision tools in the right hands.

So, how do you make a hardtail appeal to the changing appetite of mountain bike consumers?

Trek ProCaliber Gen 3 – What’s New?

Now in its third generation, the Trek ProCaliber boasts no suspension hardware and is the lightest version to date. The ProCaliber Gen 3 Hardtail leans toward big tires, suspension, and a more relaxed front end.

The most noticeable change is the “suspension,” so let’s start there. The Trek design team has put most of their line on a diet this season, and the ProCal is the latest. The frame no longer has Iso Speed moving parts, elastomer suspension, or the knock block on the front end.

Get to Know Iso Bow

Replacing Iso Speed is a new design Trek calls ‘Iso Bow’; you’ll understand why when you look at it. The design aggressively changes the arch of the top tube, but that all plays into the suspension design. The top tube now arcs into the thin seat stays, with a minimal connection, lower down on the seat tube.

The team says it offers the same benefit as IsoSpeed (seated compliance) but is more straightforward and lighter. Trek says the new design is so similar in performance to Iso Speed that during on-trail blind testing, riders couldn’t tell the difference in seated compliance.

How Much Does the Trek ProCalber Gen 3 Weigh?

Procaliber 9.6 Gen 3 11.08 kg / 24.43 lbs

Procaliber 9.5 Gen 3 : 12.13 kg / 26.75 lbs

Procaliber 9.7 AXS Gen 3 :10.58 kg / 23.33 lbs

ProCaliber 9.5 Frame (painted): 1150g

* All weights are Med frame, with TLR sealant, and no tubes.

To put the frame weight into perspective, here are some weights of competing hardtails with the exact tire clearance and suspension capability.

Canyon Exceed HT: 853g

Cannondale Scaple Hi-Mod: 895g

Pivot LES SL : 1045g

Trek Procal: 1150g

Santa Cruz Hi-Ball: 1170g

120mm Suspension Update

The ProCaliber Gen 3 uses a modern 120mm suspension, 10mm more than the Trek SuperCaliber. This will make the transition from bike to bike easier on athletes and give the new ProCaliber Gen 3 a broader range of riding conditions to play in.

Slacker and Steeper Geometry

With updated suspension comes updated geometry; this time, it’s more than a slight tweak. To give the ProCaliber more appeal to athletes using it as their main bike, the design team moved to a progressive front end. The head tube angle is now at a round 67 degrees (previously 68.8 degrees). The effective seat tube angle gets slightly steeper, moving from 73.8 degrees to 74.3 degrees.

Trek also updated the reach for the ProCaliber to give the bike calmer handling and increased rider confidence (which increases speed, IMO). The ProCaliber gets a 10mm longer reach, measuring 460 mm (previously 450mm) on a large frame. This updated reach doesn’t match the SuperCaliber, as it measures 465mm for a large frame, but it’s close.

Larger Tire Clearance / Floating Brake Mount

Like hardtail race bikes in 2024-2025, the Trek ProCaliber fits 29 x 2.4″ tires with room to spare.

The Trek ProCaliber Gen 3 uses the same brake mount as the SuperCaliber Gen 2. It isolates braking forces from seat stay flex with an updated floating brake mount. Trek says the design offers more consistent braking and is not affected by seat stay flex.

One Model For the US / Three for Europe

The new Trek ProCaliber Gen 3 comes in three different models: Procaliber 9.5, Procaliber 9.6, Procaliber 9.7 AXS, and a frameset. North America will only see the Procaliber 9.5 and a frameset. Europe, however, will receive all three and higher-end build options.

Trek’s new Procaliber gets updated geometry for gnarly XC tracks, but weighs more than the full-suspension Supercaliber

  • Rebecca Bland
  • August 29, 2024

The new carbon models also come with 120mm travel, more aggro geometry and clearance for wider tyres

Trek Procaliber

Trek Procaliber Credit: Trek

Trek has launched its Gen 3 Procaliber carbon models, which come with increased fork travel, wider tyre clearance, lighter weight, and an updated geometry. The hardtail frame is now 150g lighter than the Gen 2, and Trek has also swapped the IsoSpeed tech for Isobow to reduce the number of moving parts.

Put that together and you have a top-end bike that weighs 10.6kg in size medium. That’s  not exactly light though, it’s around 100g heavier than the new full-suspension Specialized S-Works Epic 8 XC race bike in size large we tested back in the spring. And it’s nearly a kilo heavier than Trek’s own Supercaliber SLR 9.9 XX AXS Gen 2 we tested and weighed in 2023.

Trek Procaliber

Trek’s Gen 3 Procaliber is race-ready, with more travel and a progressive geometry

We rated the Gen 2 Procaliber as one of the best cross-country mountain bikes around- in particular, one of the best hardtails. But that model used the IsoSpeed seatpost decoupler, so it will be interesting to see if the Gen 3 lives up to the same hype.

Trek Procaliber Carbon Gen 3 need to know:

  • Three new carbon models: 9.5, 9.6 and 9.7 AXS
  • Increased fork travel across the range, from 100mm to 120mm
  • Now able to take 2.4in tyres
  • Trek has used a floating brake mount, and removed the Knock Block tech
  • Updated geometry for Gen 3, with a slacker head tube, longer reach and steeper seat tube
  • IsoSpeed replaced with Isobow tech
  • Prices start at £1,950 for the 9.5, and £1,400 for a frameset

Trek Procaliber

The new Isobow design keeps things smooth without all the added complication of moving parts

What’s new on the Trek Procaliber Carbon Gen 3?

We love a good hardtail at MBR, they’re great for those looking to develop their handling skills or dip their toes into cross-country riding. And, they’re generally at a more accessible price point. We also loved the previous Trek Procaliber 9.7 , which we last reviewed back in 2020. It was one of the lightest XC hardtails around, even with the inclusion of the IsoSpeed tech. The new model, however, comes without the IsoSpeed decoupling tech that made the bike feel so smooth. But, it does now utilise a slacker and longer geometry that many modern hardtails are working towards.

Trek has launched the Gen 3 carbon models, with three options to choose from: the 9.5, 9.6 and 9.7 AXS. Trek says the new Procaliber aims to prioritise “light weight over comfort” and better handling over stability. The brand reckons it does this thanks to a few changes between the Gen 2 and Gen 3 bikes. For instance, the Gen 3 geometry has been subtly updated with a longer reach, a slacker head tube (now 67°, 1.8° slacker than the old bike) and a steeper seat tube (74.3° versus 73.8°).

rower trek procaliber 9.5

Trek says in blind testing, riders couldn’t tell the difference between the old IsoSpeed decoupler and the new Isobow tech

Just as Specialized did with the Epic 8, Trek has also managed to increase the fork travel from 100 to 120mm. It’s also widened the tyre clearance to suit 2.4in rubber. Trek also says you’ll  find a floating brake mount, the same as the Supercaliber Gen 2 bikes, mounting the caliper on the the chainstay and the axle to stop it “hindering seatstay flex”, Trek says. Call me sceptical, but with no suspension and no pivots or brake-jack to overcome this could well be a non-issue. The Knock Block tech has been removed too, for weight saving.

Perhaps the biggest change, however, is the removal of the IsoSpeed decoupling technology. This is replaced by the Isobow, which Trek claims offers “80% of compliance of IsoSpeed, but in a lighter and simplified design with no moving parts.”

Essentially, the seat stays now extend past the seat tube to form the top tube, rather than using an internal decoupler to keep the seat tube separate. Trek also claimed that during blind trail testing that riders “couldn’t tell a difference in seated compliance” between the IsoSpeed and Isobow tech.

Trek Procaliber

We’re getting all three models in the UK, unlike our North American cousins who only get the 9.5

The top-of-the-range 9.7 AXS has RockShox SID forks, and a SRAM GX Eagle AXS groupset. All come with a Bontrager Line Dropper and Bontrager finishing kit.

Taki przeskok cenowy jest oczywiście związany z osprzętem, bo w najbardziej zaawansowanej wersji obejmuje on m.in. wszechobecne włókno węglowe, 12-rzędową przerzutkę tylną SRAM GX Eagle AXS czy hydrauliczne, 4-tłoczkowe hamulce tarczowe SRAM Level Bronze.

Opis Rower górski Trek Procaliber 9.5 Gen 3

Trek Procaliber 9.5 Gen 3 – Niezawodny towarzysz w świecie MTB

Rower górski Trek Procaliber 9.5 Gen 3 to sprzęt stworzony z myślą o tych, którzy poszukują wyjątkowej wydajności na szlaku i niezrównanej frajdy z jazdy.

Technologia i Konstrukcja, Która Przełamuje Bariery

Dodatkowo, widelec amortyzowany RockShox Judy GOLD o skoku 120 mm z systemem blokady TurnKey i sprężyną Solo Air oferuje znakomitą responsywność, pozwalając na bezproblemowe pokonywanie technicznych odcinków i stromych podjazdów. To połączenie sprawia, że rower ten jest nie tylko szybki, ale także wyjątkowo zwinny i pewny na zakrętach.

Trek procaliber w/ isospeed flex becomes a faster, nimbler race mountain bike.

Building on it’s IsoSpeed equipped predecessor’s comfort and the modern geometry of the short-travel Supercaliber, the all-new Trek Procaliber hardtail gets all the right updates. Modern geometry, cleaner cable routing, and improved steer-ability make it faster than ever.

What’s new about the 2021 Trek Procaliber?

trek procaliber hardtail mountain bike in a race

The geometry’s the biggest change you’re likely to feel. Based almost exactly on the Supercaliber (which has 60mm of unique IsoStrut rear travel ), the new Procaliber has:

  • 68.75º headtube (0.75º slacker)
  • 8mm longer reach across all sizes
  • 432mm chainstays (3mm shorter)
  • 72.75º seat tube (1.65º steeper)

Here’s the full geometry chart:

And all six sizes, from Small through XXL roll on 29″ wheels now, so all sizes roll faster. And it gets a shorter offset fork to increase trail for more stability.

new 2021 trek procaliber uses a flexible seatpost called isospeed that pivots through the top tube

The cable routing runs everything through full length tubes, all through the downtube, and only has what you need: Rear derailleur, rear brake, and dropper seatpost.

knock block headset on the new trek procaliber hardtail mountain bike

The Knock Block headset now allows for a wider 62º turning radius per side (up from 58º). So, those slow speed maneuvers and tight, twisty corners will be easier to negotiate. Not only does this protect the controls or fork crown from cracking into the top and down tubes during a wreck, Trek says it also keeps the cable from getting yanked too hard.

Theoretically, we’re thinking this means you could run slightly shorter hoses and cables for a cleaner (lighter) look without needing all the extra to accommodate excess bar spin.

trek procaliber race mountain bike hardtail climbing up technical terrain

There’s also more tire clearance, fitting up to 29×2.4″ treads inside the frame. And those tires com setup tubeless out of the box with TLR strips, valves and sealant.

trek isospeed seat tube decoupler

As for the IsoSpeed decoupler, it carries over unchanged. It creates a pivot point between the seat tube and top tube, with flex designed into the seat tube. This gives the rider more compliance when seated without giving up any lateral rigidity.

It means you lose any of that bump-damping comfort when you stand up, but at least you’ll be able to power through the rougher stuff in a more efficient position than on a standard hardtail.

2021 Trek Procaliber models and pricing

trek procaliber 9.5 mountain bike in black

Starting with the most affordable model, the Procaliber 9.5 gets a Rockshox Judy air fork, Shimano Deore 12-speed group and MT200 brakes for just $2,099.99.

trek procaliber 9.6 mountain bike in black

Next up is the Procaliber 9.6 with an SLX/XT mix, MT4100 brakes, Rockshox Recon Gold fork and upgraded Bontrager Kovee Comp wheels for $2,779.99.

trek procaliber 9.7 mountain bike in gray

The Procaliber 9.7 gets the latest SRAM GX Eagle group with Shimano MT501 brakes, a Rockshox Reba RL fork, and Kovee Elite Carbon wheels. Retail is $4,199.99

trek procaliber 9.8 mountain bike in white

There’s carbon everywhere with the top model Procaliber 9.8 , from it’s Kovee Elite 30 carbon wheels to the e13 carbon cranks. The rest of the drivetrain and brakes are full Shimano XT 12-speed, and it gets a lightweight Fox 32 StepCast Performance fork.

Price is…well, it’s not available in North America. But in Europe it’s about €3,499-3,599 depending on the country. Or £3,100 in the UK.

Complete bikes and a frameset are available now at all Trek dealers and direct through their website. No word on alloy models yet, but if they follow the prior path , maybe look for those in a few months.

Tim

Is there/ will there be a frame only option? When will there be North American availability?

alloycowboy

@Tyler Benedict Benedict, can Trek make their Logo any bigger on these frames???

Brendan

Are these frames all the same or do the lower builds get correspondingly heavier carbon?

dontcoast

Sounds like all the same carbon

AKA unforgivably heavy at 1.6kg for an XC race frame. Isospeed and kockblock add lots of weight.

Lars

Yes, there will be. At least here in Germany, no idea if it’s the same everywhere else. It’s btw. the white/black/red frame of the 9.8.

Rodrigo

Sad to see the 27.5” option for small frames disappear. Do riders on Small and Extra Small MTBs really need 29” wheels? Seems like a compromise where smaller riders lose out to accountants. I was considering this and the Orbea Oiz M10 27.5”. No longer considering either.

What to buy 2021 Trek x-caliber 9 or Procaliber 9.5? Indecisive anybody want to help me with the decision. Component comparison is important.. both idea for my Xc style. Still riding a x-cal from 2012... Need pros and cons of each

Hi Did you order already? I had simmilar problem and choosed Procaliber. Why? a) carbon frame so much lighter bike, good base to upgrade in the future b) not so bad drivetrain Cons are shitty brakes, but they are cheap to upgrade I will also change the Judy SL for something lighter in stiffer, but I think not this season

With Pre-Order , you can purchase the latest items added to our store in advance of them arriving with us.

Your Pre-Order is prioritised (at no additional charge); meaning that as soon as the product arrives with us, we can wrap it straight back up; ready for collection via Click & Collect or despatch to you — it often never even hits the stock room shelves!

With Pre-Launch , the date when we expect to receive the product ourselves is still a little too hazy to be confident in accepting Pre-Orders.

So, instead, you can submit your email address against the item you are interested in and we will email you as soon as stock arrives on the system.

Estimated Delivery & Collection Dates are given on Pre-Order and Pre-Launch products. They are for indication purposes only and can change at any time without notice.

The dates we provide are based on indications given by our suppliers. Whenever we get updated information from our suppliers we will endeavour to update the Estimated Delivery & Collection Dates provided on product pages.

Not happy with your purchase? Send it back to us or return in any of our stores and we will give you a full refund or exchange!

In the unlikely event that you are dissatisfied with your purchase please feel free to return your goods within 60 days of the purchase date for a full exchange or refund. Any item (excluding food and underwear) can be returned to us for any reason provided it is returned in ‘showroom condition’, with its original packaging, tags and a valid receipt/delivery note. Simply box up your items for return, include a cover note with the word REFUND or EXCHANGE inside & follow the below steps for safe return to our warehouse; where your return will be processed promptly.

Return Items by Post

  • b) If we have delivered the bicycle you ordered, but upon inspection you decide it is not the bike for you, we will charge you £50.00 for the collection.

Please do not ride the bike as a full refund cannot be given if the bike has been used or damaged.

Return Items to a store

Any item (excluding food and underwear) can be returned to any Leisure Lakes Bikes store not just the one you made your purchase at, including those made online. The item must be returned in ‘showroom condition’, with its original packaging, tags and with a valid receipt/delivery note.

Is Trek Procaliber 9.5 A Good Bike? [Trek Procaliber 9.5 Review]

Table of Contents

  • Price: $2,449.99
  • Frame: OCLV Mountain Carbon Fiber
  • Tires: 29×2.20”
  • Gears: 1×12

What we like about it: The carbon frame and 1×12 gearing combined with the great value price will make it your top choice.

What we don’t like about it: The lack of dropper and the design of the rear shock can be a little bumpy on aggressive trails.

Rating: (4.7/5)

2023 Trek Procaliber 9.5

On the gravelly technical climbs, we wanted a light, hardtail bike with plenty of climbing power.

The Trek Procaliber 9.5 comes with a lightweight and sturdy carbon frame, smooth IsoSpeed, a premium RockShox Judy SL fork with Solo Air springs and TurnKey lockout, a wide-range Shimano Deore 1×12 drivetrain, and stable Shimano hydraulic disc brakes.

We were pleasantly surprised by the performance of the Trek Procaliber 9.5 on climbs similar to the infamous Banana Peel Slopestyle trail.

After a four-month-long review, the bike conquered rugged forest climbs, traversed undulating and bumpy gravel singletrack, and navigated smooth, loose trail descents. I experienced the bike’s potent climbing performance, and it struck me as an excellent climber. Yes, the Trek Procaliber 9.5 coped with mountain climbing so well that I found mountain climbing to be easy and enjoyable.

Here’s our breakdown of the Trek Procaliber 9.5 climbing performance, descending as well as general riding, key features, components and specs as well as other versions of the series.

If you want to learn more about the bike, keep checking back with us.

Climbing Performance

Trek Procaliber 9.5

Indeed, hardtail bikes do climb well, but there are few in the same price range that can compare to the Trek Procaliber 9.5.

We can see that the Trek Procaliber 9.5’s frame material is OCLV carbon fiber, which makes it much lighter. The Bontrager XR2 29×2.20” based tires, along with the steep seat tube angle (73.8°) and 100mm RockShox Judy SL fork and smooth IsoSpeed decoupler, allow for smooth climbing even on bumpy, steep and rough terrain and unpredictable forest trails.

Plus, with the TrekProcaliber 9.5’s powerful Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, you won’t have to worry about failing to brake when faced with slippery trails or loose sand. And when it comes to emergency braking, it doesn’t sound harsh. While some people may think Shimano hydraulic disc brakes are expensive, if you look at the price of the Procaliber 9.5, I don’t think you’ll hesitate.

We noticed that the Trek Procaliber 9.5 doesn’t have a dropper design, so we were a little concerned about its damping before the field review. I overlooked the fact that its OCLV carbon frame has good shock absorption, so even on bumpier trails Procaliber 9.5 still allowed me to ride with a smile on my face. But it’s true that the lack of dropper design can still be a bit lacking when facing technically undulating speed trails.

All things considered, it seems that Trek Procaliber 9.5 climbs much better than the softtail at the same price point, and with really few carbon configurations at this price, I think I’d be happy to pay for it.

It’s a well-known fact that hardtail bikes aren’t great at descending, but in my real-world riding, a consistent descending is one of the Trek Procaliber 9.5’s strengths.

To review the Trek Procaliber 9.5’s descent, we went to Maple Ridge, NY. This is an up-and-coming mountain biking destination that now has many trails and more in development. This place has been visited by a lot of cyclists, but we didn’t come close enough to coincide with the lack of people, just a few faint cheers. We got some information from the ruts in the ground, and even though there are more trails in development, there is no shortage of riders coming here to experience the speed and excitement.

The descent we selected for this sightline reach includes a very steep drop and a bridge crossing. After all, the Trek Procaliber 9.5 is a hardtail bike, so if you were me, you’d be a little concerned, but Trek Procaliber 9.5 is surprisingly capable in this terrain.

With the Trek Procaliber 9.5’s 120tpi Bontrager XR2 Team Issue vacuum tires, Straight Shot downtube for smooth grip during descents, and an extra-rigid frame for protection in the face of rough terrain. You might argue that it doesn’t have the advantages of a full suspension, though I must also say that less experienced riders on such steep descents will encounter some hindrance with the Procaliber 9.5.

Although some will disagree, I will say that at $2,449.99 there are very few hardtail bikes with carbon frames. The Trek Procaliber 9.5 doesn’t ditch these distinctive components for the affordable price, whether in brakes or braking.

General Riding

If you’re looking for a hardtail bike for commuting or fitness riding, you might want to take a few minutes over a cup of coffee or in your free time to check out this review of ours. It may just give you the versatility you’re looking for in this bike.

As we mentioned earlier, Trek Procaliber 9.5 is a professional racer that is especially good at climbing. It also delivers a surprisingly good performance on descents where hardtails are difficult to resist, but I wouldn’t discount its versatility.

The Trek Procaliber 9.5’s 29×2.20” vacuum tires may not be as fast as a road bike with blade-like tires. It has the commuting ability you’d expect from a hardtail bike in its price range. It maintains speed even on bumpier roads, allowing you to control your time on your commute to and from work.

Plus, with 1×12 shifting, you can enjoy smooth shifting while maintaining your stamina on fitness rides. If you have enough shifting experience, you can also enjoy your cycling workout by shifting to the right speed gears on uphill or downhill.

The cost-effective Trek Procaliber 9.5, you’ll love it, won’t you? After all, just its carbon fiber frame already makes my eyes water.

Main Features

We found that essentially most hardtail bikes have a similar frame design. At first, when faced with the Trek Procaliber 9.5, we only found it to be a little more comfortable to ride and were unhappy that it was only available in one paint color (although I do like the classic red and black combination). But as soon as we started our climbing review, we marveled at its lightweight bodywork and near-perfect geometry.

First of all, as we’ve already mentioned, it only comes in one color, Radioactive Red, and although this classic color combination would go well with my red and black jersey, I still think the Trek Procaliber 9.5 would give us a few more paint color options. Next, we come to the main attraction of the Trek Procaliber 9.5, which is the frame material of the Trek Procaliber 9.5.

Based on the characteristics of carbon fiber, we know that it is a special material more expensive than aluminum than steel, and if you are careful enough, you will find that the Trek Procaliber 9.5 uses not ordinary carbon fiber, but OCLV mountain carbon fiber for mountain bikes. This is Trek’s mountain-specific carbon fiber, tougher carbon fiber with a unique material and layup procedure. In our review, we performed an impact test on the Procaliber 9.5 and found that it surprisingly won in terms of compression resistance. Seeing this we howled in rapture for Trek Procaliber 9.5.

Are you impressed?

Trek Procaliber 9.5

You may have been tempted, but you may have hesitated, even thinking that a regular carbon fiber bike is so expensive, let alone the Trek Procaliber 9.5, but the price of the Trek Procaliber 9.5 is less than $2500 on the official website, so check out the Procaliber 9.5 if you’re tempted.

In addition, we can see that the Trek Procaliber 9.5’s cable routing is all hidden inside the frame, which gives me a great sensory experience. After all, no one wants a bunch of cables on their bike. The two water bottle mounting holes on Trek Procaliber 9.5 also make me very happy. Who wouldn’t want to replenish enough water in time when riding to a longer distance or losing water?

Obviously, this bike has a very classic geometry. the Trek Procaliber 9.5 has a steep enough head tube angle (68.8°) to climb technical singletrack effectively at low speeds and is loose enough that it won’t fly over the bars even when you’re facing a descent.

Then there’s its steep seat tube angle (73.8°), which will keep its seat tube forward, which allows you to keep riding upright. You can also bend over and ride in a more aerodynamic position to maintain lightning fast speeds if you’re facing a race and want to gain speed.

Also, we see that the Trek Procaliber 9.5 has the right length rear fork (43.2cm), which allows the rider to ride in a way that not only maintains agility but also doesn’t compromise its stability.

We also noticed that the Frame reach (M size 42cm) is the perfect length for me at 5’6”, allowing me to get on and off the bike easily.

No matter what kind of bike you want to get, the first thing to look at is the size, the right size will give you an unexpected riding experience.

Components and Specifications

Shimano deore m6100 1×12 drivetrain.

Trek Procaliber 9.5 Shimano Deore M6100 1×12 Drivetrain

When we saw the Trek Procaliber 9.5 Shimano Deore M6100 1×12 drivetrain, my first thought was that such a wide range of gearing was what I wanted, but I was also concerned about the added weight of the flywheel. What I didn’t expect is that the new SHIMANO DEORE M6100 12-speed cassette flywheel takes into account the weight issue while increasing the gearing of each gear. Instead of increasing the gears, the engineers have achieved a lightweight design.

In addition, the 1× shifting is smoother than the 2× I used before, while the 10-51 sheer gear ratio allows you to shift to a large slice when facing uphill. The speed may be a little slow at this time, but it will save you enough effort. If you have enough experience, you can make the most suitable shift when facing different terrain, Trek Procaliber 9.5 supports your versatile riding.

If you want a wide range of drivetrains, why not try some Trek Procaliber 9.5?

Shimano MT200 Hydraulic Disc Brakes

Trek Procaliber 9.5 has Shimano MT200 Hydraulic Disc Brakes

I’ve always valued braking on bikes, let alone the more professional racing Trek Procaliber 9.5. It was no surprise to me to see the Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes on it. Hydraulic disc brakes are very popular on hardtails these days, and I was very impressed by how much lighter they are than mechanical discs.

The Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes satisfied us, even in the muddy countryside after the rain, when we encountered an emergency situation that required braking, it was able to stop steadily.

Of course, the toughest thing we encountered was that Trek Procaliber 9.5 was a little stiff when stopping sharply in a turn, but it was not a big problem for me.

Trek Procaliber 9.5's 29x2.20'' Bontrager XR2 tires

The Trek Procaliber 9.5’s 29×2.20” Bontrager XR2 tires are impressive enough for both steep climbs and flat roads. The raised surface of the tires effectively shakes off any mud stuck on the tires, and the raised lugs also provide grip on steep and bumpy terrain.

Not only that, the Bontrager XR2 has a tubeless design with a special compound. This allows for lightweight construction that not only improves cornering traction but also allows for low rolling resistance, which allows for an even better riding experience.

In my riding experience, I found that the Bontrager XR2’s tires allowed me to spend less than 20 minutes or so on a ride that would have taken me half an hour. Because of the low rolling resistance design, I was smiling the entire time I was riding.

It’s worth mentioning that some may think the Bontrager XR2 tires won’t perform as well on the road. Riding the Trek Procaliber 9.5 120tpi vacuum tires on the road will amaze you with its rolling speed, because in addition to having better passing power, the 29er’s tires are great at maintaining speed.

RockShox Front Fork

RockShox Front Fork

We didn’t feel any significant vibration on bumpy rides, thanks to the RockShox fork. But at first I thought the 100mm RockShox fork was low grade and that it wouldn’t cushion and dampen as well. The truth is that even with 100mm of fork travel, it gives me the cushioning I need. The maximum compatible fork is 120mm and in addition to the Solo air spring, it is light enough. With the correct air pressure setting it has enough cushioning, which gives me more confidence in my riding.

Bontrager Verse Comp Bicycle Saddle

If you take your saddle seriously enough, you’ll notice the difference in the Trek Procaliber 9.5 Bontrager Verse Comp bike saddle.

The Bontrager Verse Comp bike saddle is empty in the middle. It features a full saddle cutout for a lightweight and durable construction, and the design is suitable for cyclists of all genders.

In addition, the full saddle cutout minimizes soft tissue stress, providing lasting comfort even on long rides.

Not only that, but the Comp grade trim is optimized for foam padding, which gives you plenty of support while staying soft and adding lightness and comfort.

When I’m trail riding, I can maintain a comfortable riding position in the saddle because its saddle design provides targeted support and pressure relief to keep me smiling no matter what kind of terrain I’m in.

IsoSpeed Decoupler

Trek Procaliber 9.5 Isospeed

Some may ask what IsoSpeed is; IsoSpeed is a decoupling mechanism that separates the seat tube from the top tube, allowing for more flexibility in the seat tube without moving parts or shocks.

It is advantageous in the face of small bumps and trail chatter, allowing you to maintain your stamina longer while still not giving up any pedaling efficiency.

In actual riding, I feel it makes it easier for me to get to farther places.

Previous Versions Trek procaliber 9.5

2021 Trek Procaliber 9.5

In this review we have the Trek Procaliber 9.5, a bike made of OCLV carbon fiber, RockShox forks, Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes, and Shimano Deore M6100 1×12 drivetrain.

I call the Trek Procaliber 9.5 a lightweight climber. In my opinion, there’s nothing to complain about relative to its component upgrades, and I consider it a cost-effective pro racer.

But in the Trek procaliber 9.5 series in addition to the latest version, there is also a 2021 version. 2022 version paint color is also very design, 1 × 12 transmission is also very attractive.

What do we like about it?

  • The OCLV carbon fiber material is lighter.
  • The 1×12 drivetrain has more shifting options in the face of different riding situations.
  • Bontrager Verse Comp bike seat has a more comfortable riding experience.
  • Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brake is lighter.

The tire size of the Trek Procaliber 9.5 is 29×2.20”.

Trek Procaliber 9.5 Specs

Comparison table, trek procaliber 9.5 vs bulls bushmaster rs.

2022 Bulls Bushmaster RS

Both bikes are made of carbon fiber and both were developed by their respective professional team members. If you were to ask me to compare the lengths, I would have a hard time deciding.

In addition, both are 1×12 gears and both have 10-51 gear ratios, with the Bulls Bushmaster RS being a step up from the SHIMANO Deore XT 1×12 in terms of actual numbers. But I’m actually riding, Trek Procaliber 9.5 its gearing does not feel anywhere out of place to me. The smooth and light shifting made me reluctant to get off the bike.

In fact, the solid black paint color of the Bulls Bushmaster RS didn’t make me like it that much. The Radioactive Red of the Trek Procaliber 9.5 would be more appealing to me by comparison.

If you like more flashy colors, you can check out the Trek Procaliber 9.5 and it will catch your eye.

Trek Procaliber 9.5 vs Scott Scale 940

2022 Scott Scale 940

The two bikes are actually similar in configuration, but I found the Scott Scale 940 to be 1.13Ibs heavier than the Trek Procaliber 9.5. The Scott Scale 940 uses SRAM NX Eagle 12-speed transmission.

The Shimano Deore M6100 1×12 on the Trek Procaliber 9.5 was also very smooth and easy to shift on my actual ride, and with a lighter body, it was much easier for me to operate. Not only that, but the Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes maintain stable braking in all conditions, even in the rain.

If you want a lighter bike, you can try the Procaliber 9.5.

Trek Procaliber 9.5 vs ROCKRIDER Mountain Bike Race 740 NX/GX Eagle

2022 ROCKRIDER Race 740 NX

I have to say, the ROCKRIDER Mountain Bike Race 740 NX/GX Eagle is a great bike for under $2,000, both in terms of braking and 1×11 shifting, and its component configuration is excellent. With a full body of carbon fiber and only 25.4Ibs, this lightweight body really appeals to me.

But I still prefer the carbon fiber of the Trek Procaliber 9.5’s OCLV, which gives it more stiffness, and its 1×12 shifting also catches my attention as well.

The Knock Block protects your frame and prevents your handlebars from spinning all the way around in a crash. Your hoses won’t be pulled hard, keeping your controls from hitting the top tube.

If you want a bike, in addition to price being something you have to consider, you also have to think about whether it meets your real needs.

Trek Procaliber 9.5 vs Ridley Ignite SLX – Shimano SLX 1×12

2022 Ridley Ignite SLX

The Trek Procaliber 9.5 and the Ridley Ignite SLX – Shimano SLX 1x12sp are two bikes that have very little difference in price.

The Ridley Ignite SLX – Shimano SLX 1x12sp features an extremely clever carbon fiber laminate, which is key to achieving amazing riding characteristics. We also have to say that the Trek Procaliber 9.5’s OCLV’s carbon frame is outstanding both in terms of lightness and cushioning it delivers.

If I had to choose, I think the Trek Procaliber 9.5 gives me a more comfortable ride. Also the IsoSpeed setup eliminates the little bumps and trail chatter from body hopping so you can stay on the bike longer without losing any pedaling efficiency.

For a bike that doesn’t lose pedaling efficiency, try the Trek Procaliber 9.5.
