Educational Value
The story intends to entertain rather than educate.
Positive Messages
Viewers see members of a blended, biracial family learn to relate to each other in positive ways. Piper takes her mother's expensive necklace to wear herself, but fate teaches her a lesson because of her actions. Some body humor (burping and a vomit incident). Some exaggerated accents from supporting characters.
Positive Role Models
All the main characters evolve to embrace their roles in a new family structure and appreciate their new siblings. The fact that the parents are blissfully ignorant of the kids' activities enables the preposterous events that befall them, but it's all for laughs.
Violence & Scariness
One scene shows kids in costumes engaging in a staged fight, but no one is injured. A security guard uses a Taser on a teen with little ill effect. It's thought for a while that a character was thrown overboard.

The movie's cast hails from various Nickelodeon productions such as The Thundermans and Bella and the Bulldogs , as well as singing sensation Cody Simpson, so kids may want to check out the players' other work.
Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that One Crazy Cruise is a zany comedy with prominent messages about the ties that bind families of all shapes and sizes. At its heart is the Jensen-Bauer family, forged from the recent marriage of an African-American woman and a white man, thus uniting their combined four children. As the kids are thrown into a bizarre adventure with unforeseen consequences, they must learn to work together to avoid dire consequences for their dad's career. Expect some body humor (burping and a gross-out incident involving sea lion vomit) and a couple of kisses between teen couples, plus a stretch of time during which it's thought that a character was tossed over the side of the cruise ship. A main character takes an item of her mother's without permission, but she pays the consequences for doing so. It is not scary!
What's the story.
When the newly blended Jensen-Bauer family sets sail on a luxury cruise for some old-fashioned family bonding, they have no idea what adventures lay in store for them. What they do know is that the dad ( Ken Tremblett ) is prepping for a software launch he hopes will earn him the good graces of his acerbic boss. But when the four siblings take part in a hypnotist's show and awaken the next day with their room in chaos and some important items -- including the only copy of their dad's new app -- nowhere to be found, Piper (Sydney Park), Ellie ( Kira Kosarin ), Nate ( Benjamin Flores, Jr. ), and Cameron (Rio Mangini) must work together to figure out what happened while they were under the magician's spell before their parents catch wind of what's going on.
Is It Any Good?
ONE CRAZY CRUISE is a wacky comedy adventure that will keep kids watching and laughing to the very last minute. By stacking the deck with familiar Nickelodeon faces, not to mention an appearance by red-hot singing sensation Cody Simpson, the movie's guaranteed to be a hit with the young crowd. The fact that the story's plot is altogether improbable does little to tarnish its appeal, and entire families will enjoy watching the characters wrestle with one absurdity after another as they try desperately to understand the mayhem they caused in their hypnotic state.
Fun and games aside, there's plenty of reason to like this movie's sentiments about the ties that bind members of all types of families. Even the newly minted Jensen-Bauer siblings, who start the story less than thrilled about this exercise in bonding, learn a lot from the experience and come to appreciate each other in a new way. In addition to the film being lots of fun to watch, the story illustrates the value of family members having your back ... especially when it comes to being handcuffed to a prosthetic leg or finding a sea lion in your closet.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about sibling relationships. What are your kids' biggest challenges in getting along with each other? What is the best thing about having brothers and sisters? What do your kids like to do together ?
Would you agree there's a positive side to adversity? How does this story illustrate that? What experiences have you had that suggest this?
Kids: Were you inclined to watch this movie because of the actors and actresses involved? Do you know their other work? Is it fun to see your favorite stars play roles other than what you're used to?

Nickelodeon: Hey guys, we made a kid-friendly "The Hangover" for you
Review by monkeydrink ★★★★★ 5
One crazy cruise is very much a masterpiece of cinema. The complex messages of being forced unwillingly into a family, and learning to truly love each other no matter your race was beautifully executed. This movie is exciting, scary, intense, and emotional. All you people who say that it’s “stupid, incompetent, and embarrassing” are too ignorant to understand the fantastic nuances in this story. The celebrity cameo from Cody Simpson is subversive and extremely smart. The computer generated effects used for the seal was absolutely breathtaking, and completely photorealistic... I had no idea the seal was CGI at all while watching the film. The characters coming together to find their dads iPad, and really growing as a family, was one…

This is a 2 in theory. 2.5 but lowered .5 for the clown but then PHOEBE THUNDERMAN AND SCHNITZEL THE SEAL DEAR GOD.
Review by Wallywood ★★ 1
My mind was a little elsewhere whilst watching this, but that's ok because I don't think I really missed much. It's drawn some inspiration from The Hangover and added a kiddies twist and a cruise ship. The lead characters were all too bland and nothing truly memorable happens.
Review by Abby ★½
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I’m so concerned that the girl from the thundermans literally told Cody Simpson that she was hypnotized and doesn’t remember any of the night they met and instead of like reacting he’s just like “see that’s the girl I know, the brave and spontaneous risk taker” and then kisses her?? but like from her pov she’s never spoken to him before

the cruise was not that crazy

Is There a Nickelodeon Cruise in 2024?
Unfortunately, the partnership between Norwegian Cruise Line and Nickelodeon ended in 2015.
While there are currently no Nickelodeon-themed cruises being offered in 2023 or 2024, it is possible that Nickelodeon may partner with a cruise line in the future to bring back these popular family cruise vacations.
Previously Nickelodeon have been on NCL ships, Nickelodeon was on Royal Caribbean cruises.
Even though it’s been some years, is there a Nickelodeon cruise is still a question that’s still often asked, so there is clearly demand from fans of the beloved TV network, and it would be a popular cruise choice for families with young children.
Alternatives to Nickelodeon Cruises
There are of course, alternatives to a Nickelodeon cruise, a Disney cruise being the most obvious.
Disney cruises are by far the most popular choice for a children’s themed cruise.
Not only do they all have all the most well-known Disney characters, from Mickey Mouse to all the Disney Princesses, but they also have a host of characters from their other franchises such as:
- Marvel Super Hero Academy
- Teenage Ninja Turtles
Carnival Cruise Line joined up with Dr. Seuss to offer a Seuss at Sea, a chance for kids to have Green Eggs and Ham themed breakfast for kids that include character meet and greets.
Royal Caribbean has their own Royal Caribbean kids clubs, with Royal Tots and Royal Babies for the youngest. The kid’s sail free deals are well worth looking out for.
Previously Royal Caribbean had a partnership with Dreamworks, from 2010 to 2019 when they offer a “DreamWorks Experience” with popular characters from movies franchises:
- Kung Fu Panda
- How to Train Your Dragon
Families and kids on the cruises would enjoy parades and interactions with the characters and create lifelong memories.
Nickelodeon Norwegian Cruise Experience
If you are wondering what the Nickelodeon cruise experience was like, or you want to reminisce about your own past experiences you can get an idea or reminder from the footage below.
Here is a video highlighting the Nickelodeon cruise experience offered on the Norwegian cruise line ship Norwegian Getaway, Breakaway Class of the ship.
As you can the Nickelodeon Cruise see offered:
- Dancing with Dora the Explorer
- Stage shows with Nickoledeon characters
- Meet and greets
- Character theme Water parks (soak it up like Sponge Bob)
With SpongeBob being a sea sponge, it was only natural he was the lead character on the Nickelodeon cruise experience and even more so in the water park areas.
The year-round Nickelodeon experience was expanded to 5 ships in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, including their newest ship at the time in 2014 Norwegian Getaway.
It was a popular choice on the Norwegian Jewel cruise ship which sailed from New York City.
The family fun-filled character experience was proving to be a hit, so popular that years later people are still asking whether Nickelodeon cruises are available.
However, no less than a year later the partnership was terminated in 2015.
Unfortunately, since then, up until this year, Nickelodeon hasn’t partnered with any other cruise lines and the Nickelodeon cruise experience is sorely missed by families with young children who love the characters.
Of course, there are other options, a Disney cruise being the most obvious and surely one of the best cruises for kids and families.
One Crazy Cruise
Fans of Nickelodeon cruises and young kids might fun it fun to watch Nickelodeon’s own “One Crazy Cruise”. It’s a 2015 comedy movie, which at the time of writing, was available on Amazon Prime (and possibly other streaming services).
Here’s a trailer:
Nickelodeon on Royal Caribbean
Before its partnership with NCL, Nickelodeon had partnered briefly with Royal Caribbean on Freedom of the Seas .
The Royal Caribbean Cruises offered:
- Autograph signings with Nick celebrities, including Jennette McCurdy, Nathan Kress, and Tom Kenny.
- Character meet-and-greets with Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob SquarePants, and other Nick characters.
- Evening shows featuring Nickelodeon characters.
- Interactive game show called Nick Live Poolside!
- Karaoke events featuring Nickelodeon songs.
- Screenings of popular Nickelodeon shows, including The Naked Brothers Band and SpongeBob SquarePants.
- Sail-away party to kick off the cruise.
In addition, there was the popular Slime Time Live which was a chance for parents to get slimed.
There was also meet and greets available at Nickelodeon character breakfasts where kids could meet their favorite Nick characters of the time, such as The Backyardigan and Jimmy Neutron.
Nickelodeon Hotel and Resorts
If you are determined to have a fun-filled immersive Nickelodeon vacation as a family, the best option would be to choose an all-inclusive Nickelodeon resort.
There’s currently a choice of two locations::
- Nick Resorts Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic
- Nick Resorts Riviera Maya, Mexico
The resorts are everything you would expect, and similar to the cruise experience, they have meet-and-greets, and character-themed water parks and attractions.
In the video below you can check out a full tour of Nickelodeon Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico .
Although Nickelodeon cruises are no more, it doesn’t hurt to keep looking each year and asking. If cruise lines see there is enough interest they may yet be on a cruise ship in the future.

Nickelodeon Cruises for Families

As of 2019, Nickelodeon cruises are not offered. Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) used to be the official partner of Nickelodeon, offering Nickelodeon cruise experiences with Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob Squarepants and more. However, the partnership ended in 2015.
If you’re looking for character meet-and-greets and other themed experiences for your next family vacation, check out these fantastic Nickelodeon cruise alternatives—including two all-inclusive Nickelodeon resorts.
Nickelodeon Hotels and Resorts Punta Cana
If you’re willing to go the all-inclusive resort route, consider the Nickelodeon Hotels and Resorts Punta Cana , which offers a water park with dump buckets that pour out green slime (!), character meet-and-greet experiences, a Spongebob Squarepants-themed suite inside of a pineapple (of course), and more! In 2020, the Nickelodeon Hotels and Resorts Riviera Maya will debut, giving families another option for Nickelodeon-themed vacation fun.

Disney Cruise Line
Disney Cruise Line offers a unique opportunity to visit with your favorite characters (minus the crowds of a theme park). Deck parties and awesome waterslides add to the fun, but Disney’s kids’ clubs — which include a life-like version of Andy’s Toy Room ( Toy Story ) — are what make Disney Cruise Line stand out among the rest. Your superhero-obsessed kids (and spouse) will also love Star Wars and Marvel Days at Sea.
Carnival Cruise Line
Parades, story time, character meet-and-greets and even a Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast are part of Seuss at Sea on Carnival Cruise Line .

Tom Cruise Was Once Considered For Iron Man, But There Was Another Superhero Movie He Also 'Flirted' With
Two very different flavors of Cruise could have been present in the world of comic movies.
You don’t get to be an acting talent like Tom Cruise without racking up an obscene amount of “what if” stories. While we know the man as the lead of the Mission: Impossible movies , and a stunt performing daredevil extraordinaire, there were a couple times in his career that comic book movies came a calling.
And while we already know about Cruise’s potential role in the then developing Iron Man franchise, it turns out that Zack Snyder’s Watchmen was apparently another project that could have seen the star of some of the best action movies in the world playing an anti-hero.
The Watchmen Characters Tom Cruise Was Considered For
As if Zack Snyder’s bombshell about Leonardo DiCaprio being considered for the role of Lex Luthor wasn’t enough of a shock, the director’s Happy Sad Confused interview also yielded this juicy gem. And apparently, while the Rebel Moon director wanted Tom Cruise to play one role, the man behind Ethan Hunt was gunning for the polar opposite. Take a look for yourself:
Tom Cruise wanted to be in WATCHMEN. But only as…wait for it…Rorschach. Another bombshell @ZackSnyder dropped in our chat. The full chat: https://t.co/qDTvcxgxfu pic.twitter.com/uLeM7UMESw April 18, 2024
I’m going to set aside the fact that, like Josh Horowitz, I consider the casting of Watchmen to be perfect. I can’t see either Jackie Earle Haley or Matthew Goode not playing Rorschach or Ozymandias at this point, but for the sake of academic curiosity, I’m going to pretend I can. With that caveat in place, I’d honestly have a hard time picking which role Tom Cruise would be better suited for.
Cruise’s Rorschach feels like it’d be a modified version of his Vincent character from Collateral , whereas Ozymandias would be a variation on his aloof killer archetype as Lestat from Interview with the Vampire . That second scenario would have been a particularly good showcase for Tom, as that character basically launches into a Watchmen ending explained monologue in the third act.
Both characters hold echoes of some of Tom Cruise's best movies. So to all of a sudden hear that Zack Snyder had met with the man to try and cast him in this epic comic adaptation has replaced Iron Man as the greater “what if” for Cruise’s potential career in comic movies. Which, after all this time, is no easy feat.
That Time Tom Cruise ‘Flirted’ With Playing Iron Man
If anyone ever wanted to know how forward thinking Tom Cruise is when it comes to movies, consider this: the man was flirting with comic book movies before the boom had truly taken off. While the ultimate reason for Cruise’s Iron Man refusal was classic Hollywood dealing, the man was circling these sorts of opportunities before they were cool.

History shook out the way it did, and Robert Downey Jr .’s iconic casting won out. That hasn’t stopped people from pondering over how a Cruise-led Iron Man could have looked. Especially since, on the Tom Cruise Continuum of Characters, Tony Stark feels like a more cavalier and grown up version of Risky Business’ Joel Goodsen.
Twice before we almost saw Tom Cruise landing a comic book movie icon on his resume; and who knows? We might just see him land that sort of role in the future, provided he wants to go down that road. The Multiverse of both DC and Marvel are vast, and there's surely someone Cruise would be down to play in the name of four paneled fun.
As it stands, the Watchmen we have at home is a sterling example of comic book adaptations done right. So should you want to revisit that movie, with or without visions of Tom Cruise participating, you can do just that. At the time of this publication, a Max subscription is all that’s required to catch up once again with those costumed heroes.

Tom cruise campaigned to play key watchmen character, reveals zack snyder.
Director Zack Snyder reveals that Tom Cruise campaigned to play a key character in his Watchmen movie, though couldn't agree on which one.
- Tom Cruise's ambition and commitment to roles could have resulted in an interesting portrayal of Rorschach in Watchmen .
- Cruise's lack of major villainous roles may have also made playing Ozymandias equally intriguing in the 2009 movie.
- Despite the actor's campaign to be in the 2009 movie, Snyder ultimately couldn't part with his casting decision for Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach.
Zack Snyder reveals that Tom Cruise chased the role of a certain key Watchmen character. The 2009 superhero film was praised as a gritty, visually striking, and faithful adaptation of the Alan Moore graphic novel it was based on, but the complex narrative proved to be too hard to follow for those who weren’t already familiar with the source material. The film holds a 65% from critics and 71% from audiences on review-aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes. Watchmen was also considered a box office flop, grossing only $185 million, but its gritty tone helped shape the future of superhero films.
In an interview with Happy Sad Confused , Watchmen director Snyder revealed that Cruise wanted to play Rorschach . The reveal comes right after Snyder said that he wanted Cruise to play Ozymandias. The conversation about the reveal is brief, but Snyder said that Cruise was capable of playing the dark, complex character Rorschach, only for the filmmaker to have already cast Jackie Earle Haley. Check out what Snyder shared in the quotes and video below:
Zack Snyder: I wanted Tom Cruise for Ozymandias. Tom wanted to play Rorschach. Josh Horowitz: Tom wanted to play Rorschach? Zack Snyder: He wanted to play Rorschach, which, I mean obviously, he could have done. Yeah. But we had Jackie already and Jackie is, like, unbelievable! I mean, but I certainly would have considered Tom in retrospect if I hadn't had Jackie. Horowitz: So you meet with Tom, and you're like, "Ozymandias." He's like, "Yeah, yeah, yeah. I wanna play that weird, crazy guy." Snyder: Which would have been unbelievable, in retrospect, yeah.
Cruise’s Ambition & Commitment Would Have Produced An Interesting Rorschach
Despite Cruise not being known for playing characters like Rorschach, the actor’s ambition and commitment to his roles may have resulted in an interesting portrayal of the character.
The world of Watchmen is one filled with anti-heroes. Cruise playing Rorschach would have been an interesting choice, as the actor is better known for playing characters who are clearly heroes, like Mission: Impossible 's Ethan Hunt or Top Gun 's Maverick. By taking on the role of Rorschach, he may have produced a dark, morally complex character Cruise isn’t well known for.
Despite Cruise not being known for playing characters like Rorschach, the actor’s ambition and commitment to his roles may have resulted in an interesting portrayal of the character. Whether it be in his action-oriented work or some of his more dramatic fare, like Born on the Fourth of July , the four-time Oscar nominee has frequently shown a dedication to pouring himself completely into his roles. The recent installments of Mission: Impossible are prime examples of this, as Cruise has opted to do most of his own stunts, many of which are incredibly dangerous.
The Most Dangerous Stunt In Every Mission Impossible Movie
Given Rorschach was one of the more action-heavy characters in Snyder's Watchmen with his various vigilante work and brutal escape from prison with the help of Nite Owl II and Silk Spectre II, Cruise could've leaned into the stunt performing he's now become known for with the 2009 movie. That being said, the argument could also be made that the star's lack of major villainous roles throughout his career could've made his playing Ozymandias to have been just as intriguing. While the movie may not have scored widespread acclaim, Haley's performance does remain a standout, assuring that Snyder ultimately made the right choice.

In 1986, DC Comics published a comic book limited series consist of 12 issues titled Watchmen . Creator Alan Moore worked with artist Dave Gibbons for the project, which released monthly issues from 1986 to 1985. A movie adaptation was released in March 2009 under the direction of Zack Snyder. The story of Watchmen happens in an alternate reality 1985, with references to events that occurred in the 1940s and 1960s. In the old days, a group of crime fighters in costume, called the Minutemen, went down in history as contributing to the many victories achieved by the United States. In the series’ history, the United States won the Vietnam War and no Watergate scandal occurred. In the present (1985), a Cold War between the U.S. and Soviet Union is threatening to turn into a nuclear war. One of the retired superheroes, The Comedia aka Agent Edward Blake (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), is murdered, and the investigation leads to a discovery of a conspiracy that brings other heroes out of retirement. Other heroes include Jon Osterman/Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup), Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias (Matthew Goode), Dan Dreiberg/Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Sally Jupiter/Silk Spectre (Carla Gugino) and Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley). In 2015, news about HBO working on a TV series for Watchmen began to surface with early reports saying Snyder will be the director of the TV adaptation as well. In mid-2017 news broke that Snyder will be replaced by Damon Lindelof, who is the co-creator and showrunner of Lost . As of this writing, Lindelof has neither denied nor confirmed his involvement in the project but he has been vocal about wanting to be part of it, and that he wants a close adaptation of the comic book.
