Mexico and the Caribbean
Spend your days rolling in the waves, relaxing by the pool or enjoying quiet time (thanks to some superior kids' clubs) at these island resorts.
Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya, Mexico
With massive waterparks, daily slimings and Nickelodeon characters galore, the kids have it made at the all-inclusive Nickelodeon Hotels & Resort Riviera Maya, a Good Housekeeping 2024 Family Travel Award Winner. But grown-ups aren’t left out of the fun. Tequila tastings, spa treatments and romantic dinners can be on your agenda thanks to the supervised club for kids ages 4 to 12. And while you probably wouldn’t be booking a SpongeBob-themed room if you didn’t have the kids in tow, the decor is as mod and classy as it can be. All the accommodations are suites that sleep up to five and have two bathrooms. Suites have direct access to a pool from the balcony. (Yes, even on the top floor!)

Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas
Winner of a 2024 Family Travel Award, Atlantis is a top choice for families of all ages looking for a mix of relaxation and adventure. Its adrenaline-pumping waterpark features high-speed slides, including a one-of-a-kind tube slide down a Mayan pyramid. Animal encounters, like getting up close to a dolphin, are thrilling in a different way. But on the other side of the massive resort, the beaches are super chill. The gentle water is just perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. Supervised clubs for kids, tweens and teens truly wow, so adults can enjoy the casino and a meal at one of the resort's fine-dining restaurants.
Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda, Dominican Republic
Movies under the stars, trapeze lessons, windsurfing — with cool activities like these, kids will never want to leave this newish resort in the lush, away-from-it-all part of the island. Supervised clubs for babies through teens keep the good times rolling while you’re at the adults-only Zen pool or doing treetop yoga. (Yes, that’s a thing.) Solar panels, recycling, plastic-free water bottles and other sustainable initiatives are part of the eco-minded resort culture.
Beaches Negril Resort & Spa, Negril, Jamaica
While this all-inclusive resort and 2024 Family Travel Award-winner caters to all ages, toddlers and preschoolers will be star-struck. Sesame Street characters entertain them with story times, dance parties and even puppet-making! That’s on top of the mini water slides, splash areas and a playground that makes little ones squeal with glee and wears them out, so they’ll hit the sack early.
Private childcare and supervised kids’ clubs (for babies through teens, including those with special needs) are an option when you want a spa treatment, a quiet dinner or just to read a book on the resort's idyllic 7-Mile Beach. All the rooms and suites got a glow-up in 2020, plus there are new villas with butler service (sign us up!)

Fairmont Mayakoba, Playa del Carmen, Mexico
When it comes to baby and kid gear, this luxury resort has you covered. Need a bottle warmer? They got it. How about a step stool for a toddler to reach the sink? Yours for the asking. With these worries aside, you can concentrate on the beauty of the surroundings (the resort is surrounded by a lush mangrove forest) and incredible bucket-list activities, like kids’ carnivals and night kayaking. All the rooms have received a glow-up and there's a sleek new beach club to boot.
Rock House Resort, Turks & Caicos
Your family may never leave the water at this Mediterranean-inspired oasis , which opened in May 2022. In addition to a full kitchen and roomy living room, many of the villa-style accommodations feature a spacious private pool. (Yes way!) And if your crew ever tires of it, fun awaits at the resort’s oceanfront infinity pool and stretch of white sand beach, which is exclusively for resort guests. Just note that while a cliffside setting makes the resort incredibly picturesque, it’s impossible to navigate with a stroller — so bring the tweens, teens and even grandparents if they don’t have trouble climbing stairs.
Embassy Suites by Hilton Aruba Resort
A brand that's popular with families because it offers separate sleeping spaces for kids and adults, Embassy Suites recently opened a location in Aruba. (Pinch us now.) The 330-suite hotel boasts a kids' pool and playground and is just steps away from the iconic Eagle Beach. A breakfast buffet (with made-to-order items) is included in the price, which is already a value. Rooms also feature a kitchenette, so you can stash drinks and snacks and save your budget for the island's many incredible water activities.
New England Cozy
Lakes, lighthouses and hiking trails make New England a great place to visit in almost any season.
Quisisana Resort, Lovell, ME
Kids will get a digital detox at this all-inclusive lakefront resort , but they’ll be too busy playing to miss their devices. Without TV or a Wi-Fi signal in the comfortable, air-conditioned rooms and cabins, they’ll be fully immersed in the slew of included activities — from paddle boating to tennis to sandcastle-building. They might even learn to kayak or catch their first fish.
At night, music fills the resort. Broadway-style shows, held in a new outdoor theater, entertain all generations. There’s something about the fresh air and a choice of lollipops that keeps most kids from getting too wiggly, and the caliber of the performances is at least on par with good community theater.
The three included daily meals — with menu items like lobster rolls and Maine blueberry pie — will leave your crew’s bellies happy and full. And if you do need Wi-Fi occasionally, you can pop in the main lobby for a signal. Shh: The kids will be fine without it.
Hidden Pond, Kennebunkport, ME
Open from May to October, this nature-focused retreat provides a refuge from city life. Yoga sessions in the garden, a shed filled with arts and crafts supplies for kids, guided nature walks and outdoor art classes are easy-going yet exciting at the same time. Cottages with fireplaces foster togetherness, and complimentary breakfast arrives at your door every morning so there's no need to rush out for coffee.
Smugglers' Notch Resort, Jeffersonville, VT
Nestled in the Green Mountains, this resort is just as fun in the summer months as it is during prime ski season. Besides eight heated pools (some with waterslides!), the action-packed lineup of family activities has plenty to do whether you’re traveling with a toddler, teen or both. Sing-a-longs, magic shows and scavenger hunts keep little ones entertained while older kids will welcome the chance to take a guided hike, design and launch a water rocket or play glow-in-the-dark volleyball. A GH 2024 Family Travel Awards winner, condos at this property accommodate up to five bedrooms, making it possible for extended family and friends to stay together.
Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club, Brewster, MA
Beach, pool, eat, repeat — that’s how your crew will spend laid-back days at this Cape Cod gem . The private beach has gentle surf and at low tide, kids can spy little sea creatures in the tide pools. When the tide changes, head to the heated outdoor or indoor pools. Outdoor movies are the perfect wind-down to bedtime. And if you can pry the kids out of the water, activities like scavenger hunts, curated by the resort’s new director of fun (for real!) await. Just make sure to stay in the “mansion” section of the resort because that’s the part with private beach access.
Sebasco Harbor Resort, Phippsburg, ME
Kids will never forget sleeping in a lighthouse next to the ocean. The resort’s 1945 lighthouse contains recently renovated guest rooms with amazing views, sea breezes and conveniences like a fridge and microwave. The lighthouse rooms are also near the resort’s iconic oceanfront saltwater pool, which recently got a makeover. A vintage bowling alley, weekly pirate cruise and old-school kids’ club add to the New England charm.
Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge, Stowe, VT
A fantastic value, this new '70s-inspired cozy lodge is perfect for families who want to explore Vermont's Green Mountains. The scenic trails of Cady Hill Forest are just steps away and downtown Stowe is about a 10-minute walk. Two- and three-bedroom cottages at Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge have plenty of space for families and a kitchen to boot. A game room, fire pits for s'mores roasting and a pool make hanging at the lodge a nice respite in between nature activities.
California Dreamin'
Choose your Cali adventure: You can find bustling cityscapes, tranquil trails, stunning beaches and even a fairytale castle.
Los Angeles, CA
Tweens and teens won’t roll their eyes if you suggest a vacay in L.A. — where, trust us, they’ll ask you to eat at In-N-Out-Burger (look cool and say you already had it on the list). Some more must-dos: Visit the Griffith Observatory for the out-of-this-world exhibits and a stellar view of the Hollywood sign, and if you're an outdoorsy family you can hike down from the observatory to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and famous TCL Chinese Theaters .
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures , where anyone 17 and under gets in free, is conveniently located near the classic La Brea Tar Pits and the cool LACMA ( Los Angeles County Museum of Art). Some outdoor shopping at The Grove L.A. and a beach day in Santa Monica with a spin on the iconic wheel at the Santa Monica Pier will get you more well-deserved parent cred. Or, you can take a trip to Universal Studios Hollywood , where, for now, you can find the only Super Nintendo World open in the United States. Stay at The Garland in North Hollywood, a Good Housekeeping 2024 Family Travel Awards winner. It has a swanky trolley that transports guests to and from Universal, as well as other kid perks like dive-in movies and a retro-chic family suite with bunk beds.
San Diego, CA
Can’t decide between heading to the beach or exploring a big city? San Diego has the best of both worlds, with near-perfect weather to boot. Make your home base a beach resort like the Kona Kai San Diego Resort & Spa , San Diego Mission Bay Resort or, if you're bringing a big group, Shore House at Del, a Good Housekeeping 2024 Family Travel Award winner. Intersperse oceanside fun with short drives to the city’s famous zoo and museums in Balboa Park. Plan to spend at least a half day at Liberty Station , a cultural attraction that has many places to eat and shop. New stores and restaurants are open at Seaport Village , which has a classic carousel for kids to ride.

Monterey, CA
The number one reason to book a vacation in this coastal town: the aquarium. Yes, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is that good. It levels up the typical touch tank experience by letting little kids crawl through tunnels surrounded by tropical fish displays and use squirt toys to learn how animals stand up to big waves. There’s even a padded zone with eye-level exhibits for toddlers! And the whole family will be wowed by the aquarium’s newish exhibition, "Into the Deep: Exploring Our Undiscovered Ocean." Some of the creatures in the 21 live exhibit areas are newly discovered and haven’t even been named yet. Mind blown! Stay at the hotel next door, InterContinental The Clement Monterey .
Disneyland Resort and California Adventure, Anaheim, CA
If you're looking for a Disney trip with young kids, Disneyland may have the edge over an Orlando vacay. Here are some reasons why: You can get on more rides without as much walking in California, so that means fewer tired and cranky kids. Summer weather is also usually better in Anaheim than in hot-and-humid Florida. And rides like Radiator Springs Racers, which looks like it’s right out of the movie Cars , are Cali-exclusive. The new Villas at Disneyland Hotel offer options that sleep up to 12 guests plus the decor is whimsical.

Family vacation spots in the Southeast USA
1. Theme park vacations (and more) in Orlando, Florida
If you’re dreaming of fun in the sun, Orlando is one of the best family travel spots in the U.S.A. for all ages. Disney’s Star Wars land and the Harry Potter theme park areas at Universal are among the best in the world, but don’t overlook SeaWorld Orlando, Discovery Cove , and (for young kids) LEGOLAND Florida and the Peppa Pig theme park , among many others.
When you’ve had your fill of the theme parks in Orlando , take an airboat tour of the Florida Everglades, shop at Universal CityWalk or Disney Springs, go wakeboarding or tubing at the Orlando Watersports Complex, or splash in the Disney water parks . If you’re craving time on the sand or in the water, take a short drive to one of the best Florida beaches near Orlando for swimming and sunbathing.
SUN AND SAND: 10 best Florida beach resorts for families
Orlando is also known for its kid-friendly restaurants, which include everything from dining with dinosaurs at the T-Rex Cafe to satisfying your sweet tooth at the steampunk-inspired Toothsome Chocolate Emporium (my personal favorite). And of course the Orlando water parks are some of the best in the whole country if you’re thinking of wet and wild spring getaways or summer vacations .
If you’re planning to make the Disney parks a major part of your vacation, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is my personal recommendation. Most kids will adore the in-room pirate décor, not to mention the water cannons and 82-foot slide at the swimming pool. There are plenty of other Disney World hotels , Universal Studios hotels , and affordable theme park hotels in Orlando that offer special perks like early admission too. Kids always enjoy staying at the Orlando hotels with swimming pools and there’s no shortage of those, either.
2. Gatlinburg and Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee
The mountain town of Gatlinburg has three entrances to Great Smoky Mountains National Park right downtown, which puts miles of trails for hiking, walking, mountain biking, and horseback riding right at your fingertips. Beyond the national park, you can catch penguins, sting rays, and sharks at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, or browse the galleries and studios of the Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community for local artisanal products and artwork to take home as souvenirs.
ROAD TRIP READS: 33 books like Harry Potter to binge on your next vacation
Climb the Gatlinburg Space Needle or take a ride above the treetops on the Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway for the great views. At night, settle in to Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort and Water Park . It’s just minutes from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, downtown Gatlinburg, and attractions such as Dollywood. Kids will love the resort’s large indoor/outdoor water park. For privacy and plenty of room for larger families , choose one of the three-bedroom units.
3. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
With 60 miles of South Carolina coastline, Myrtle Beach is a popular family vacation spot known for its sunny weather, family beach vacations , and golf courses. Myrtle Beach has resorts, entertainment, and eateries galore along the Grand Strand, not to mention more than 90 golf courses and some of the country’s most inventive mini-golf courses.
NO HIDDEN FEES: 15 best all-inclusive family resorts in the world
Beyond the beach, activities include the upside-down world of WonderWorks, complete with laser-tag, a ropes course, and a discovery lab. Kids love blasting back to the past at the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament (cheesy but fun), or dining with seafaring scoundrels at the Pirate’s Voyage Dinner and Show. For more live entertainment, don’t miss the Carolina Opry or the Alabama Theater. The Broadway Grand Prix offers entertainment for racing enthusiasts, while Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach makes undersea exploration fun.
For a fun place to stay with the kids, consider Dunes Village Resort . When you’re not dining in one of the on-site restaurants, playing tennis or basketball on the resort’s courts, or swimming in the outdoor pools, you can enjoy the indoor water park. The Dunes Village Resort’s water park is 30,000 square feet of water slides, a lazy river, children’s swimming pools, and more.
Family vacation spots in the Southwest USA
4. Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona
Grand Canyon National Park isn’t just one of the best family vacation spots in the U.S., it’s one of the most popular tourist attractions in the entire world. It’s packed with family-friendly activities like hiking and mule rides, and its true grandeur can only be fully appreciated in person. Your kids will never forget the moment they first peer over the edge into the awe-inspiring canyon below. Most families head to the South Rim, but I prefer the more secluded North Rim (open from mid-May to October). The views still spectacular and the crowds are a fraction of what you get at the other rim.
ROAD TRIP IDEAS: 11 scenic family road trip ideas that kids and adults will love
Another fun thing to do at the Grand Canyon is whitewater rafting the Colorado River. Everything from quick trips to week-long (or longer) excursions are available, and many Grand Canyon rafting trips are tailored to families with kids. Or, splurge on a helicopter tour and see the Grand Canyon from the sky. And speaking of sky, you can walk over the edge on a glass-bottom bridge called the Grand Canyon Skywalk along the canyon’s West Rim.
If you plan ahead about a year ahead, you have a good chance of snagging an overnight spot at Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. There are plenty of campgrounds above the rim, too, along with one of the country’s best national park lodges , the historic El Tovar Hotel , which overlooks the majestic South Rim. On the other side of the national park, Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim also has canyon-edge accommodations in a rustic family-friendly setting.
5. Austin, Texas
Texas’ capital is famous for its delicious food and live music, making it a great destination for a family vacation in the U.S. A food tour is a smart idea to get a sampling of all the good eats in Austin. Once you’ve had your fill, hop on an Austin Duck Adventures tour for an overview of the city and explore Zilker Park, which is home to a botanical garden, a playground, and the famous Barton Springs Pool.
BIG FAMILIES: 15 best all-inclusive resorts for families of 5+
If you’re visiting between late March and early fall, go to the Congress Avenue Bridge around sunset to watch the Mexican free-tailed bats that hang out underneath fly out for the night. Any time of year, catch a flick at Alamo Drafthouse, which has a kids menu for young moviegoers, and take a tour or see a show at ACL Live. Find vacation reads for the whole family at BookPeople, the largest independent bookstore in Texas.
Where to stay in Austin, Texas
Located close to the Congress Avenue Bridge, Four Seasons Hotel Austin has tons of fun family-friendly amenities like a complimentary guitar lending program and lawn games and hammocks on its back lawn. Or hit up Embassy Suites by Hilton Austin Downtown South Congress for roomy accommodations and amenities like an indoor pool.
Family vacation spots in the Northeast USA
6. New York, New York
Big city family vacations don’t come any bigger than the Big Apple. The Statue of Liberty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Empire State Building, and the Museum of Natural History are iconic landmarks , but there are many kid-centric attractions too. For the full New York family vacation experience, take a turn around Times Square or buy tickets for a Broadway performance.
TRAVEL WITH TEENS: 10 best vacation ideas for families with teenagers
Don’t miss Rockefeller Center, where you can catch a TV show being filmed, explore the Channel Gardens, and (in the winter) glide around the famed ice skating rink. Visit in November for the chance to catch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in person. Central Park is a great place to spend the day in the warmer months, with its rolling lawns, walking trails, playgrounds, conservatory, and castle, not to mention the Central Park Zoo.
Brooklyn’s NU Hotel offers a number of kid-friendly perks. Not only can you grab free breakfast at this New York family hotel , the hotel offers loaner bikes upon request. If you’re traveling with very little ones, you can also request high chairs, a baby bathtub, and step stools from the front desk if you’ve left anything off your baby packing list . Several subway stops are within walking distance, making it easy to get around the city.
7. North Conway, New Hampshire
A kid-friendly family vacation spot that’s well-known to New England families, North Conway is close to two of the region’s most popular amusement parks for kids (the retro-chic classics Santa’s Village and Storyland) as well as many of the best family resorts in the Northeast . It’s also a perfect gateway to outdoor pursuits like hiking, kayaking, and canoeing during the warmer months and snowmobiling and skiing in the winter.
FUN IN THE SUN: 12 best beach resorts in the U.S. for families
That’s not to say you need to be an outdoorsy family to enjoy North Conway. The Conway Scenic Railroad has scenic train rides visiting a surrounding area that’s particularly spectacular in the fall. And there are plenty of easy hikes with big rewards, too. One of my family’s favorites is the half-mile trail to Diana’s Baths, where a series of cascading falls makes for a memorable family picnic spot.
For something truly memorable, book a one-of-a-kind overnight stay at Adventure Suites , a hotel with some of the coolest themed family suites anywhere in the country (think jungles, caves, and even Ancient Rome, just for starters).
8. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Maine
The only national park in the Northeast, Acadia is everything you dream about when you imagine a family vacation along Maine’s rocky coast. It’s one of the best family vacation spots in the U.S. because of its many beaches, islands, rocky shorelines, and scenic walking trails and hiking trails—not to mention a historic carriage road system and the tallest mountain on the Atlantic Coast, Cadillac Mountain.
NATIONAL PARK VACATIONS: 19 best national parks to visit in the spring
Acadia makes for a memorable East Coast vacation for active families who love hiking, cycling, horseback riding or carriage rides, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and rock climbing. Hardy souls who visit in the winter months can enjoy snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and even ice fishing in and around the park.
The oceanfront Harborside Hotel, Spa, and Marina overlooking Frenchman Bay in downtown Bar Harbor is everything you could want in a kid-friendly family resort close to a national park. This four-star hotel is near everything in town and easily accessible to the national park (you’ll need to drive or rent a car no matter where you stay near Acadia), and it boasts two pools, a spa, onsite dining, and postcard-perfect marina views.
9. Niagara Falls, New York
Niagara Falls isn’t just one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the world, it’s also one of the best family vacation spots in the U.S. or Canada—and a surprisingly accessible bucket-list family vacation destination as well. The world-famous falls are actually three distinct waterfalls (Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls) and they’re incredible to see in person.
KID-FRIENDLY HOTELS: 9 fun hotels with incredibly cool kids clubs
Start at Niagara Falls State Park before getting up close to the rushing waters of Bridal Veil Falls via a year-round viewing area called the Cave of the Winds. Follow a trail of slick wooden walkways to the Hurricane Deck, where you can get intentionally soaked in the thundering mist. And for a real family adventure, board a Maid of the Mist boat tour to the roaring spray zone just past Horseshoe and American Falls. Walking distance to Niagara Falls State Park and adjacent to Old Falls Street USA, Sheraton Niagara Falls USA is centrally located close to all of the action. The on-site Rainforest Café restaurant is always a hit with the kids.
Beyond Niagara Falls, there are plenty of things to do in Buffalo just 20 miles from the falls. The city’s revitalized downtown area, Canalside, is prime kid-friendly spot for families to gather. The Buffalo Zoo, Delaware Park, and the Buffalo RiverWorks (a massive dining and entertainment complex) are all popular family attractions to take in.
10. Williamsburg, Virginia
Carefully renovated historical areas bring the past to life in Colonial Williamsburg and nearby Yorktown and Jamestown. Climb into a horse-drawn carriage and tour streets lined with restored buildings from the era of the American Revolution. Spend a day in these living history museums and you’ll see what life was like in the days of the Framers of the Constitution at sites like the Yorktown Battlefield.
CLOSE TO HOME: 8 best Puerto Rico all-inclusive resorts for families
I love ghost tours, and the famous Williamsburg Ghosts Tour is one of the best. The Jamestown Glasshouse offers a glimpse into the area’s artisanal glass industry; here, you’ll see artists at work and have the chance to buy your own hand-blown pieces. Take a break from learning about the nation’s past and ride the roller coasters at Busch Gardens Williamsburg or careen down the water slides at Water Country USA.
Stay at the Kingsmill Resort , situated on a protected reserve along the banks of the James River. It has indoor and outdoor pools, several on-site restaurants, a golf course, and a spa. Request a one-, two-, or three-bedroom condo for a fully equipped kitchen and more space to spread out.
11. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Yes, you can walk in the footsteps of the Founding Fathers at sites like Independence Hall , snap a family photo in front of the Liberty Bell, and see the homes where Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence and Betsy Ross stitched the first U.S. flag when you visit Philadelphia. But even if your family isn’t interested in history, Philly still has a lot to recommend it as one of the best family vacation spots in the U.S.A.

14. Washington, D.C.
I visited Washington, D.C. , on a family vacation back when I was a kid, and then again as a dad with my son’s whole Boy Scout troop. It’s easily one of the best family vacation spots in the U.S. thanks in large part to the many landmarks on the National Mall. Other essential attractions include the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture, and the International Spy Museum, dedicated to the history and tradecraft of espionage.
WELCOMING DESTINATIONS: 10 best U.S. vacation destinations for LGBTQ+ families
Plan to go in spring ( March is especially nice ) to see the iconic cherry trees in bloom. This is also the perfect time to take a stroll around the Tidal Basin and see the monuments to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Thomas Jefferson along the way. Consider renting a paddle boat to explore the pond at the heart of this lovely area.
Book a family room at Hotel Madera for your accommodations. Located near Dupont Circle, this boutique hotel is elegant enough for adults, but also offers comfy kid-friendly amenities. Ask for a room with bunk beds, where kids can wrap up in mini bathrobes and play a massive Connect Four game.
Family vacation spots in the Midwest USA
15. Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

Favorites include the 70-acre Noah’s Ark Waterpark , the biggest in the Dells with more than 50 slides; Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park , with its 100-foot geyser and nine-foot-tall wave pool; and Wilderness Resort, which offers go-karting, rope courses, and bumper boats along with water slides.
SPLASH ZONE: 13 best indoor water park resorts in the U.S.
When you’ve had your fill of splashy fun, explore the non-watery attractions in Wisconsin Dells like Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum and the Ghost Outpost Haunted House. You can also rent kayaks and explore the Wisconsin River, or marvel at the remarkable architecture and awe-inspiring views at the House on the Rock.
Stay at the Wilderness Resort to experience one of the largest water park resorts in the United States. This family-friendly lodge offers four indoor and four outdoor water parks , so kids can stay occupied no matter the weather. Choose a wilderness-themed room or spread out in a villa or cabin.
16. Branson, Missouri
If your family loves music and live performances, Branson is the place go for one of the best family vacations in the U.S. This Missouri city is famous for its live musical entertainment, with venues such as Dolly Parton’s Stampede, Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater, and many more. It’s the perfect place to take in a show or to enjoy dinner theater. Kids of all ages should enjoy the Aquarium at the Boardwalk, as well as the rides at Silver Dollar City, Shepherd of the Hills Adventure Park, Bigfoot Fun Park, and Fritz’s Adventure.
BEACH IDEAS: 10 most beautiful Caribbean beaches (and where to stay near each)
But there’s so much more to experience in Branson. Hop on the Showboat Branson Belle for a sail around Table Rock Lake. Bike, hike, or horseback ride through miles of trails in Dogwood Canyon Nature Park. Take a ride through the Ozarks on the Branson Scenic Railway, a historic train with cars dating from the mid-20th century. For more indoor fun, venture to Beyond the Lens to try cutting edge gaming systems, or experience the world’s most infamous boat at the Titanic Museum.
The Cabins at Green Mountain are great for families because you can rent two- or three-bedroom villas near all the action in Branson. This family-friendly resort is tucked into the trees and offers serene views of the Ozarks. You’ll enjoy your own cabin with a washer/dryer, kitchen and fireplace, and use of the resort’s pool and clubhouse, while Branson is just a short drive away.
17. Sandusky, Ohio
One of the best family vacation spots in the U.S., Sandusky is packed with kid-friendly activities like the Castaway Bay Waterpark , a 38,000-foot indoor attraction with an aquatic roller coaster, water slides, and pools for little ones. Even more watery fun can be found at Kalahari Waterpark and the Cedar Point amusement park, where you can shoot the rapids, take a plunge down Snake River Falls, and brave the waters of Thunder Canyon.
FIND A DEAL: 12 best hotel booking sites for cheap prices
At Cedar Park you’ll also find classic amusement park rides like a Ferris Wheel and other staples of the county fair, rides for older kids, and a challenge park with bumper cars and mini-golf. For outdoor adventure, take a ferry to Kelleys Island for pristine beaches and shallow swimming areas; or keep going to South Bass Island, home of beautiful Put-In Bay. Closer to town, you can feed the deer at Lagoon Deer Park or visit the Sandusky Maritime Museum, which brings the town’s rich Lake Erie history to life.
If you can’t get enough of water parks, stay at one of the top Great Wolf Lodge locations in the U.S., Great Wolf Lodge Sandusky . Designed for family fun, this resort offers an on-site indoor park with wave pools, lazy river, water slides, and spray areas.
18. Mackinac Island, Michigan
Horse-drawn carriages, car-free roads, and stately Victorian homes are just the tip of the iceberg on Michigan’s Mackinac Island , one of the most popular Midwest family vacation destinations for generations. Pronounced “Mackinaw,” the tiny and thickly forested Mackinac Island is surrounded by Lake Huron and the Straits of Mackinac, making it one of the best family vacation spots in the U.S. for an all-ages-appropriate outdoorsy vacation filled with gentle hiking, all-day cycling opportunities, and no shortage of kayaking and canoeing.
WORLD’S BEST: 10 best all-inclusive resort chains for families
Better yet, you can top off any day here with some freshly made fudge from any one of a dozen fudge shops right on the island. Mackinac is also brimming with boutique shops, bookstores, and kid-friendly restaurants and ice cream shops. And did I mention Mackinac Island is home to one of the very best family resorts in the U.S. , the historic and beloved Grand Hotel ? The charming rooms and family programming here are legendary, as is the front porch, which holds the record as the world’s largest.
Family vacation spots in the Western U.S.
19. Oahu and Maui, Hawaii
It’s easy to see why the Hawaiian islands top so many lists of the best family vacations in the U.S. From the bustling shores of Waikiki and the gentle waves of family-friendly Lanikai Beach to the black sands of Maui’s Wai’anapanapa State Park, these beautiful Pacific islands offer can’t-miss beach fun for your whole crew.
HASSLE-FREE HAWAII: 10 best family resorts in Hawaii
If you have older kids, it’s fun to spend the day enjoying water sports like snorkeling with sea turtles in Oahu’s Hanuama Bay Nature Preserve or taking surfing lessons in Kihei, Maui. For a break from the sand, head to the Honolulu Zoo, hike to Manoa Falls, ride horses at Kualoa Ranch, or explore the rich history and culture of Oahu and its sister islands at the Bishop Museum, where the interactive displays are designed just for kids.
On Maui, where tourism is reopening after the devastating wildfire in August 2023, Haleakala National Park gives you the chance to peek inside a volcanic crater, then take a looooong bike ride all the way down from nearly the top of the volcano. If your kids love to snorkel or even if you’re just getting your feet wet, hop on a boat and head out to Molokini, a volcanic atoll where the snorkeling is world-class.
For family-friendly accommodations on Oahu, stay at the Sheraton Waikiki . The hotel’s Helumoa Playground Pool has fountains and water slides to keep the little ones busy for hours. And when you need a break as parents, the kids camp here offers outings to various destinations around town. For Maui vacations, book one of the best Hawaii all-inclusive resorts at the Royal Lahaina Resort . This beachfront destination has multiple pools, private garden cottages, and tennis courts.
20. Anaheim, California
If your family can’t get enough of that famous mouse, plan a Disney trip to Anaheim to experience the amusement park that started it all: Disneyland. Since the 1950s, this American institution has delighted families with classic attractions like Sleeping Beauty’s Castle and It’s a Small World. Today, you can explore more than 500 acres of fun at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park, which are packed with rides and attractions such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Haunted Mansion.
AVOID THE CROWDS: When is the best time to visit Disneyland and Disney World?
But Anaheim isn’t known as one of the best family vacation spots in the U.S. just because of Disney. The rides at nearby Knott’s Berry Farm include the world’s largest wooden roller coaster, while the Anaheim Packing District is a foodie destination with breweries for the grown-ups and treats for the kids. Take in live music at the Anaheim Garden Walk or catch an Angels baseball game or Anaheim Ducks hockey game while you’re in town.
For the perfect mix of luxury and convenience, it’s hard to beat Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa , one of the most kid-friendly hotels near Disneyland . Located in the heart of the Downtown Disney District, this resort offers suites with up to three bedrooms, so there’s always plenty of room for the family to spread out. With more than 60 restaurants within walking distance and pools for guests of all ages, this hotel completes the Disney experience.
21. Glacier National Park, Montana
I didn’t think we had anything like the Swiss Alps here in North America until my first trip to Glacier. You’ll get all the hidden lakes, wildflowers, and sun-drenched alpine scenery of Switzerland at Montana’s Glacier National Park, a true wilderness playground with mountain peaks and glacier-carved valleys for miles. This photogenic park offers endless opportunities for day hiking (more than 700 square miles of trails), camping, cycling, wildlife viewing, and of course driving its famed Going-to-the-Sun Road.
FLY AWAY: 17 best flight booking sites for cheap airfares
You can also experience European-style hut-to-hut hiking inside Glacier National Park. There are two backcountry lodges, Sperry Chalet and Granite Park Chalet, that offer hot meals and comfy beds at the end of a long day of backpacking. If your kids are 10 or older, try hut-to-hut hiking through Glacier National Park with licensed backcountry guides. You can also book accommodations directly with the chalets.
Stay inside Glacier National Park at the iconic Swiss chalet-style Lake McDonald Lodge , constructed in 1913 on the shores of Lake McDonald about 10 miles inside the national park. There are guestrooms inside the three-story main lodge. You can also rent cabin rooms or stay at either of the lodge’s two annexes, the hostel-style Snyder Hall or the more upscale suites of Cobb House.
22. Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
Not just the first national park in the world, Yellowstone might also be the most famous. Everyone’s heard of Old Faithful and Grand Prismatic Spring, but Yellowstone’s 3,500 square miles of protected nature are also home to an abundance of wildlife (wolves, bison, black bears, grizzlies, elk, antelope, bald eagles, and trumpeter swans, among many others), giant roaring waterfalls, dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, and the largest concentration of active geysers anywhere in the world.
BANG FOR YOUR BUCK: 6 best-value all-inclusive resorts for families
Yellowstone is easily one of the best family vacation spots in the U.S. for spotting animals in a protected area (and is an especially great national park to visit in winter for wildlife viewing). And because it’s not a controlled habitat like a zoo, your animal encounters could happen anywhere and spark delight at unexpected moments. Rafting, camping, fishing, and of course viewing the exploding geysers offer more fun family at Yellowstone.
A glorious example of turn-of-the-century national park lodge architecture, the log-style Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone is open from early-May to mid-October each year and has more than 300 family-friendly guest rooms that put you right at the heart of Yellowstone for your national park family vacation. Take a tour of the historic lodge to get the full story on the iconic “parkitecture” that make national park lodges unique.
23. San Diego, California
Sunny San Diego has the perfect blend of indoor attractions and outdoor fun. From the La Jolla Cove to the warm sands of Coronado Beach to the waves and people-watching at Mission Beach, you’ll find miles of gorgeous Pacific Ocean beaches on a California family vacation in this coastal oasis.
For shallow and calm waters, head to Mission Bay Park for stand-up paddle boarding or kayaking. When you’ve had enough sand and sun, Balboa Park offers 1,200 acres of urban green space, dotted with 16 museums, gardens, art centers, a mini-railroad, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo.
GO WEST: 7 best West Coast vacations for families
Other don’t-miss San Diego destinations include SeaWorld and the Birch Aquarium at Scripps. For shopping and dining, head to the historic Gaslamp Quarter or cross the bridge for upscale shopping and dining in Coronado Island, just a short drive from downtown. Kids who love all things train-related will enjoy the Old Town Model Train Depot, while The New Children’s Museum downtown has plenty of interactive things to do for kids of all ages.
The Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa is perfectly situated between Pacific Beach and Mission Beach. Families can enjoy a private beach and lushly landscaped grounds that resemble a Polynesian paradise. Walk to the many shops and eateries in the surrounding neighborhood, including the Boardwalk and Crystal Pier. Rent bikes and water sport gear from the hotel. Choose a roomy suite and enjoy the ocean views from your private balcony.
24. Yosemite National Park, California
Sierra Nevada splendor is on full display in Yosemite National Park. With its sheer granite formations, graceful seasonal waterfalls, and ancient forests, this land has been wowing people for thousands of years. And whether you’re visiting for the first or fiftieth time, you’re sure to find new vistas and plenty of outdoor adventures for your family vacation.
MAKE MEMORIES: Trip insp: 10 best places to go with kids this year
Many of the most iconic hikes can be customized for different ages and physical abilities. Not ready for the hike to the top of Yosemite Falls? Take the short, mostly paved walk to the bottom of the falls, where you can feel the mist on your face and score a great family selfie. If Vernal Falls is too big of a trek, take the trail part way for the reward of the Vernal Falls footbridge. Never going to be ready for the harrowing Half Dome hike? Enjoy views from the valley on the Mirror Lake trail.
Remember that Yosemite is more than the Yosemite Valley , too. It’s also the peaceful beauty of Hetch Hetchy; the towering Giant Sequoias of Mariposa, Tuolumne, and Merced groves; and the quiet lakes and hidden waterfalls that dot the park’s 1,200 square miles.
Want to camp under the stars , cozy up in a tent cabin, or sleep at an iconic national park lodge? Yosemite has it all, but advance planning is vital. Things book up far in advance, especially during the busy late spring, summer, and early fall vacation months.
The Yosemite Valley is home to the Ahwahnee Hotel , a National Historic Landmark built in 1927 in the shadow of Half Dome. Curry Village , also in the valley, offers a family-friendly mix of hotel rooms, cabins, and heated and unheated tent cabins. Other hotels, rustic lodging, and camping options pepper the park as well.
There are also lots of great hotels near Yosemite that aren’t in the park itself. In fact, some of the most family-friendly accommodations are the resorts, hotels, family glamping and camping sites, and vacation rentals in the towns that cluster near the three main entrances to Yosemite.
25. Sonoma County, California
Sonoma may be best known as a wine destination and neighbor of Napa , but what many people don’t realize is that it’s also a downright magical place for kids. Not only is the county massive (at 1,500 square miles, it’s bigger than Rhode Island), it’s also packed with enough variety to keep even multi-generational families delighted. There’s rugged Pacific coastline with its wild beaches, the picturesque Russian River, dense redwood forests, rolling countryside dotted with vineyards, and both farm towns and hip small cities.
FAMILY-FRIENDLY WINE COUNTRY: 9 Napa Valley hotels that welcome kids
Some of the most kid-friendly things to do in this family vacation spot include zip-lining through the redwoods at Sonoma Zipline Adventures , flying kites or going horseback riding in Bodega Bay, going on safari (and even sleeping in a luxury tent if you want to stay overnight) at Safari West, and, for the littles, heading to TrainTown in downtown Sonoma. And even with kids, going to wineries can be fun, since many wineries have outdoor games, farm animals, food, and sometimes grape juice tastings.
Sonoma is close to the San Francisco Bay Area, so flying into either Oakland International Airport or San Francisco International puts you about an hour away by car. There’s also the smaller Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, which has service from Alaska Airlines and American Airlines.
There are hundreds of options of places to stay in Sonoma County, and dozens stand out as great places for families. Among my favorites are the remodeled 1960s motor lodge The Astro in Santa Rosa, the ocean-view Timber Cove Resort (it’s gorgeous but also a bit of a drive from most of the rest of Sonoma County), and the chic H2Hotel in Healdsburg . There’s also Safari West’s luxury campground , which is good but pricey.

Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.
Top family vacations in the USA
1. san diego, ca.
With sunny beaches, fantastic theme parks, and the world’s largest comic book convention, there's no such thing as bored children in sunny San Diego . Plus, like a good Pixar flick, the best kid-friendly activities won’t leave adults gaping at their phones. We promise parents will love mingling with exotic animals, splashing through waterfront fountains and marveling at towering Lego sculptures right alongside the kids. Avoid rowdier crowds and embrace calm waves alongside other families at Mission Beach, Coronado Beach or La Jolla Shores.
2. Yellowstone, WY
No other place on earth is like Yellowstone National Park . The massive, natural sanctuary (3,471 square miles of green) mesmerizes all visitors with its mountains, canyons, geysers and subalpine forests (and don’t be surprised if you spot buffalo). With challenging hikes into the backcountry as well as handicap-accessible wooden boardwalks, the wonders of Yellowstone are for everyone. Plan a trip to the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center to see animals without hiking for it. Bring a tent and get here early to take advantage of the affordable campgrounds (seven are first-come, first-served and five require reservations ). Pack the car with a cooler of campfire meals and snacks to get you through the weekend.
3. Grand Canyon, AZ
One mile deep, 277 miles long and visible from space, the Grand Canyon is right up there on the cool chart for kids. Explore it from the rim on foot (the guided hikes are perfect for children six and older) or bike, or ride a mule to the bottom. When you get out of Wi-Fi range, the kiddos might complain, but they’ll remember hiking these trails forever. Don’t miss the spectacular Skywalk at Grand Canyon West, which juts out 70ft from the canyon rim—there’s nothing but glass between you and the Colorado River 4,000ft below.
4. San Francisco, CA
San Francisco is a giant playground for adults and kids alike. There's plenty of room to roam and play, from stunning parks to exciting museums to picturesque beaches. Check out the city's newest playground, the Outpost at the Presidio Tunnel Tops . When it comes to indoor activities, the Children's Creativity Museum , the Aquarium by the Bay and the Exploratorium are all classic favorites. And, of course, you can't miss a ride on a cable car that will leave the kids giddy, with a stop at Ghiradelli Square for a sundae that will make them even giddier.
5. Tucson, AZ
A dude ranch vacation is ideal for families and Tanque Verde in Tucson , Arizona, is one of the best, with spectacular trails that wind their way through desert and mountain scenery. This is a great place for kids with a horsey inclination to improve their riding skills, but novice equestrians can learn their stirrups from their saddles here, too. The daily kids’ club offers activities from horsemanship to arts and crafts, and there’s a spa to soothe aches and pains from too much time spent in the saddle. Venture into the city to discover museums, local coffee roasters and microbrewers and a gorgeous landscape of saguaros, barrel cactus and prickly pear.
6. Orlando, FL
Resort complexes don’t come bigger than the 43-square-mile Disney World in Orlando , Florida, comprising four theme parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom), two water parks, golf courses and 36 hotels. For full theme-park immersion, add a day or two at Universal Orlando Resort , home of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Allow at least two days (multi-day tickets are the way to go) and stay on-site as it gives you extended hours in the parks and early access to Fast Pass reservations, essential for skipping the lines. For a non-traditional hotel experience, The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are nestled in the woods, frontier-style, and sleep up to six.
7. Los Angeles & Anaheim, CA
You're going to need way more than a weekend for this SoCal vacation filled with attractions from Santa Monica to Anaheim . Want to spot celebs? Take the Starline Tours Movie Stars’ Homes Tour or book a backlot studio tour for behind-the-scenes moviemaking magic. Hire bikes in Santa Monica to explore the beach and the old-school Santa Monica Pier with its carnival games, vintage carousel and aquarium. Then head south to Anaheim for amusement park gold like Disneyland . Looking for a Disney alternative? Knott's Berry Farm is a great option for thrill-seekers (we're taking real roller coasters) and fans of Snoopy and Peanuts (the park's mascots).
8. Oahu, HI
There’s no better place to learn to surf than the long rolling breaks of Oahu ’s Waikiki Beach, but other family-friendly activities include paddling an authentic outrigger canoe, or learning the graceful movements of hula. Explore the island’s most scenic and historic sights on a Waikiki Trolley tour , and swim with dolphins at Sea Life Park. The secret for families to get the best out of Hawaii is to try to split their time between busy, urban Honolulu and another more laid-back area, like Oahu's north shore or family-friendly Maui .
9. Chicago, IL
Chicago is fun to visit with kids year-round, but we'll be honest, it's more fun when it's not in the depths of winter. When the weather isn't frigid, let your kids run wild at the many urban parks and the beach, surrounded by skyscrapers that will wow them. Still, even when it's cold, there's plenty to do, including taking in the view at the top of Willis Tower , shopping along Michigan Ave, and museums like the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum . No matter the season, you can't miss indulging in a famous deep-dish pizza.
10. Yosemite, CA
Famed for its sweeping valleys, towering granite cliffs, giant sequoias, waterfalls and plethora of wildlife, Yosemite , in California’s Sierra Nevada, is simply awesome. Hiking, swimming, rafting and fishing are just some of the many family activities available in the 1,169-square-mile national park . Reservations for the 13 campgrounds are fiercely competitive and you need to book months in advance, but Curry Village (open April to October) gives you the camping experience without the hassle of set-up in cabins and tented cabins that sleep up to six. For the ultimate family-friendly hotel, check out Rush Creek Lodge which features kids programming, a playground, a heated year-round pool and more.
11. Destin, FL
Known for its fishing spots and sprawling white sand beaches, Destin is full of family fun in the sun. Kids will love the calm shorelines, especially along Henderson Beach State Park and the shores at Crystal Beach Park and the amusement parks—head to Big Kahuna's for waterslides and a lazy river and Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park to see dolphins and penguins. A boat tour is a must. Destin offers everything from dolphin-spotting excursions and pirate-themed cruises to glass-bottom boats and high-speed racers.
12. Branson, MO
You'll find family-friendly fun without the crowds and the soaring price tag in Branson, Missouri . Enjoy classic family fun in the great outdoors, from hiking and biking in Table Rock State Park to kayaking on Lake Taneycomo. Plan to spend some time at Silver Dollar City , too, which offers rides, attractions, shows, and food for families of all ages and interests. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Ozark Mountains and Table Rock Lake, Top of the Rock Ozarks Heritage Preserve features a cave and nature trail, a golf course, a natural history museum, four restaurants, a clifftop wedding chapel, and a Civil War-era cabin. It’s considered one of the best entertainment spots in the state.
13. Washington, D.C.
The nation's capital is a perfect destination for a family trip. Let stops along the way bring history lessons to life, from touring the U.S. Capitol and White House to visiting George Washington's in Mt. Vernon, Virginia. Best of all, a trip to D.C . won't break the bank: all Smithsonian museums are completely free and could fill up your itinerary alone, from the Air & Space Museum to the National Museum of Natural History .
14. Gatlinburg, TN
Asheville gets a lot of credit for being the 'gateway city' to the Great Smoky Mountains, but Gatlinburg , a mountain town in eastern Tennessee , is actually the closest city to the national park—and it was practically made for families. When you're not exploring the national park, take a ride on the Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway to reach the amusement park of the same name. Or, head to Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies to view various marine animals. The area has developed a reputation for vacation kitsch, and there’s a ton of it in Pigeon Forge , Gatlinburg’s neighbor to the north, where you'll find no shortage of old-time photo booths and believe-it-or-not attractions.

Some of the best family travel destinations worldwide:
1. Daintree Rainforest, Australia
Recommended by Caz and Craig from YTravelBlog.
One of our favorite destinations for families is the Port Douglas Daintree region in Tropical North Queensland .
Port Douglas has the largest reef system and the oldest rainforest in the world to explore. What more can you ask for? Our girls loved snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, zip-lining over the canopy of the Daintree Rainforest, playing on stunning beaches, searching for wild crocodiles on riverboat cruises, and enjoying delicious exotic ice cream made from the rainforest fruits.
It’s a relaxed and beautiful tropical destination with plenty for all members of the family to love.
TIP: You can also easily visit Daintree as a day trip from Cairns or Port Douglas. You can find the best selection of organized tours here .
Here you can find everything you possibly may want to know about visiting the Daintree Rainforest .

There are few places in the world that offer the opportunity for a family adventure like Iceland .
Where else can you spot Blue Whales from a schooner, swim in ice-cold glacier water while continents tear themselves apart around you, and feel the roar of Europe’s largest waterfall, all within a few hours drive of each other. If that isn’t enough to whet your appetite, Iceland is one of the safest countries in the world. You can even lookup the Prime Minister in the phone book.
Icelandic people understand the unique needs of children and families. It’s rare to find a restaurant that doesn’t have an area set aside for children to play.
Furthermore, Iceland is really easy to visit on your own. In summer, you can drive the entire Ring Road , or just focus on the South Coast attractions – there’s plenty to see and do, also with kids. If you don’t feel like driving in Iceland in winter , you can just stay in Reykjavik and make a couple of day trips.
You can read more about Kevin and Christina’s family trip to Iceland on their blog.
Our experience: We have been to Iceland multiple times and in all seasons and indeed, it’s a great place for a more adventurous family trip! On our blog, you can find a huge selection of Iceland destination guides, itineraries, and practical tips. Check our Iceland travel guide for the complete overview.

3. Bali, Indonesia
Recommended by Eric from Travel Babbo.
Bali has become one of our favorite family travel destinations the past couple of years. There’s a perfect mix of beaches and culture, and there’s always something to do, from attending festivals (which seem to take place all the time) to visiting water parks to hiking through rice fields.
The weather is warm year-round, although the rainy season (November through March) is exactly what it sounds like. The food is excellent and inexpensive. My 10-year-old’s favorite restaurant in the world is Cuca, near Jimbaran Beach.
Bali’s hotels are amazing, and virtually all welcome kids. We’ve stayed at hotels on the beach, but also in villas with private plunge pools overlooking river valleys and villas surrounded by rice fields. We always try to do activities through our hotels, like fish feeding, anti-gravity yoga, rice planting, ceramics, and local walks. We’re never ready to check out.
Even though there are more tourists every year, Bali never feels touristy. Ubud retains a really cool, artsy vibe. Plus there’s a monkey forest there – what kid doesn’t want to be surrounded by monkeys?
You can find more tips for visiting Bali with kids on Eric’s blog.
4. Costa Rica
Recommended by various families, including us.
Costa Rica is one of the most recommended family travel destinations in the Americas. It has all the ingredients for a perfect family-friendly travel experience: tropical climate, beaches, rainforests, lots of sightseeing possibilities, fun adventurous activities, and a big variety of wildlife.
No matter what kind of a family travel experience you’re looking for, Costa Rica makes it all possible.
Looking for a relaxing family vacation at a beautiful resort? Head to one of the many coastal destinations.
Looking for an adventure and action-filled vacation with teens? Check out the La Fortuna – Arenal area , aka the adventure capital of Costa Rica.
Want to see wildlife? Visit the famous Manuel Antonio National Park !
Or plan a road trip and see the best that Costa Rica has to offer, and add some relaxing pool/beach time to make it fun for the whole family.
The good thing about Costa Rica is that it’s an extremely family-friendly destination. And – if you’re coming from the USA, you won’t have to cross too many time zones. It’s also a place that you can visit the whole year round (a tropical rain shower is always possible, however).
Here you can find a sample 2-week Costa Rica itinerary that covers some of the best places, gives you plenty of opportunities to see wildlife, get to know the culture, try some fun activities such as zip-lining or wild water rafting, and also plan some relaxing time by the pool or at the beach.

5. Crete, Greece
Recommended by Paul from A Luxury Travel Blog.
The Greek island of Crete is somewhere we’ve frequently holidayed as a family. Crete has everything we could possibly want – a lovely climate, pure relaxation, great beaches, excellent food, and a beautifully slow way of life. There are some superb hotels on the island too!
We’ve often been drawn to a small fishing town Elounda which has some excellent luxury accommodation and plenty to see and do.
If you are looking for a family-friendly destination in southern Europe, a place that has is all, then you can’t go wrong with the Greek Islands and especially Crete!
Check Paul’s blog for all things luxury travel .
6. Whitefish, Montana, USA
Recommended by Nicole – The Passport Kids.
If you are thinking about experiencing what a winter wonderland would be like, our recommendation is the Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort in Montana, USA. The resort offers many family-friendly amenities and activities including daycare and kids ski & ride school directly on the resort.
Enjoy some outdoor winter fun with snowboarding, skiing, snowshoeing or sledding; then cozy up by the fire with some hot chocolate.
The resort and city of Whitefish offer a small-town American feel where life slows down for a while but still offers a great selection of hotels, restaurants and shopping.
Check Nicole’s blog for more information about Whitefish ski resort .
7. Gulf Shores, Alabama, USA
Recommended by Karen from Family Travels on a Budget.
Gulf Shores, Alabama is perfect for families because it’s got all the beach without all the crowds!
We love Gulf Shores for its white sand, seashells, sunsets, and seafood. But what makes it special is the space — wide beaches and smaller crowds mean we have more space to unwind.
Gulf Shores is more than a beach, though. We also enjoy hiking and biking the trails at Gulf State Park, catamaran day trips, paddle boarding and sunset dinners at local restaurants. It’s our home away from home — at the beach!
Read more about Alabama Beaches here.
8. Cape Town, South Africa
Recommended by Keri from Baby Globetrotters (and one of our personal favorites too).
Everything about Cape Town is simply breathtaking! Nestled beneath the unmistakable Table Mountain, many start their South African adventure at the lively V&A Waterfront.
Near to the city, you will find the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens and Tree Canopy Walkway, the Table Mountain Cable Car or why not take a ferry and tour around the now infamous Robben Island?
Heading further out of Cape Town for a couple of days is a must – head to where the oceans meet at the Cape of Good Hope, visit the Penguins at Boulders Beach and spot the seals at Hout Bay.
Next head east to the Stellenbosch wine region – so many family-friendly wine farms it’s hard to choose where to start. Finish off your Cape Town adventure with a simply breathtaking sunset over the Atlantic Ocean from Signal Hill or Camps Bay.
Find out more about Cape Town family vacation on the Baby Globetrotters blog.
Our experience: We completely agree with Keri – Cape Town and the whole of South Africa is amazing with kids and one of our own personal favorite places in the world. Here you can find more tips for visiting South Africa with young kids and here you can find a sample itinerary for the best of South Africa .

If you are looking for a truly unique family vacation destination, then definitely consider Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. It’s such a special place (and totally different from anything else on this list), but it has so much to offer for families!
From beaches to deserts, impressive skyscrapers, and sensational attractions for the whole family, there’s so much to see and do in Dubai that you can easily fill several family vacations here and never get bored.
Visit the world’s highest building, ride a camel in the desert, spend time at one of the many theme parks, or go swimming at some of the world’s most impressive water parks… These are just a few of the amazing things to do in Dubai with kids !
And while visiting a destination like this with the whole family can quickly get quite expensive, there are quite a few really nice free and cheap things to do in Dubai as well.
Furthermore, Dubai enjoys warm weather the whole year round (albeit a bit too hot in the summer months), and it’s a perfect family vacation destination for off-season travel as well.
What we also love about Dubai is that it’s extremely multicultural, and kids can get in touch with different traditions. We were pleasantly surprised by the food in Dubai as well! With so many cuisines and middle-eastern touches, the food is absolutely delicious. It’s also another great way to introduce your children to different cultures.
Here you can find more information and fun facts about Dubai , read more about the best tours in Dubai , and also find out how expensive Dubai is .

10. Cambodia
Recommended by Alanna from The Travelling Hams.
Most people don’t think of Cambodia as a family-friendly destination, but we wholeheartedly disagree! The country is full of stunning nature and some of the most beautiful temple ruins in the world.
Our toddlers loved exploring the ruins as much as we did! For our kids, the ruins were the ultimate playground. Each equipped with crumbling stairs to climb, plenty of rocks and leaves to play with, and even some wildlife to watch. It’s a great way to challenge their senses and it gives you a chance to enjoy them yourself – a double bonus!
Cambodians are some of the friendliest people in Southeast Asia. They love to stop you and chat about your children and give friendly pats and pinches. For those with really young ones- they even help to watch your children while you get a few mouthfuls of food in!
11. Rovaniemi, Finland
Recommended by Erin – Travel with Bender.
If you ask our kids out of the 67 countries they have been to in their 6 years of life, which was their favorite, they would unanimously agree – Finland . More specifically Rovaniemi to the North of Helsinki. Why? So many reasons!
First, it’s where the real Santa lives. When you send a letter to Santa it goes here. You can see all the pigeon holes from around the world with letters to Santa. You can even post your own! You can spend an evening with the elves in the forest, decorating trees, baking cookies, and learning Santa secrets.
In addition, when you are not visiting Santa, you can spend days doing all kinds of fun winter outdoor activities. Ride husky sleds through a winter wonderland, take a reindeer sleigh through the forest, opt for a snowmobile safari that also visits reindeer and huskies, or go snow tubing down giant hills and through ice caves.
Top that with snowmobiles to capture a glimpse of the Northern Lights and a hot dinner of reindeer meat and what could be more perfect?!
Here you can read more about winter holiday in Roveniemi Finland .
12. Portugal
Recommended by Alex – My Life Long Holiday.
Central Portugal has been a family favorite for us since my parents emigrated there a few years back. The area has such a laid-back vibe, great food, culture, and beautiful scenery.
For adventurous families, there are activities like cycling, hiking, and kayaking. But my kids equally like exploring little old villages up in the mountains which haven’t changed for ages, so long as there’s ice cream at the end of it!

13. Philadelphia, USA
Recommended by Eileen – FamiliesGo!
Philadelphia is close enough to home that it has been a frequent day trip for us. Now that we travel with a child we have begun to stay for a night or two, which has given us a new appreciation for all that this city has to offer for families.
Federal Hall is a must-see on your first visit (the Declaration of Independence was signed here). The city also has a lot of family-friendly museums.
Please Touch Museum will be a hit with younger kids, while school-going children will appreciate the Franklin Institute and the sprawling Museum of Art.
Philadelphia is also known as a great city for eating out. I recommend Federal Donuts near Rittenhouse Square, Hawthorne’s near South Street and Reading Terminal. Great city break for families.

14. The Canadian Rockies
Recommended by Melissa – Parenthood and Passports.
As a family who wants to see as much of the world as possible, it’s rare for us to visit the same destination twice. But there is one place we return time and time again: The Canadian Rockies .
The Canadian Rockies are one of the most naturally beautiful wonders on earth. The mountains have a rugged, majestic appeal. Nestled between them are glacial lakes that shimmer a vibrant shade of blue.
Banff National Park, located in the heart of the Rockies is one of the most family-friendly places we’ve ever visited. The establishments are very accommodating to children, and the area is great to explore with kids.
Banff is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. You’ll find everything from easy hikes to backcountry camping and winter mountain sports. We love exploring outdoors and hope to instill that same passion in our daughter. I can’t think of a better place to do so.

15. Cook Islands
Recommended by Karilyn – No Back Home.
One of our favorite family destinations is the Cook Islands in the South Pacific . For West Coast travelers it’s a short overnight flight with only a 3 hour time change.
The largest and main island, Rarotonga, is actually quite small with a ring road only 29 miles long! You will be welcomed to the island by beautiful white beaches with excellent snorkeling in calm lagoons and lush green mountains as your backdrop.
With plenty of adventure activities from hiking to buggy driving to kayaking to private islands, your family will have the time of their life in this island paradise!

16. Glacier National Park, USA
Recommended by Craig and Bryanna – Crazy Family Adventure.
Glacier National Park is one of the most visited National Parks in the USA and for a good reason. It’s also an amazing family travel destination! The views are out of this world, hiking is amazing, and there are so many fun activities for the whole family!
We really enjoyed driving the scary yet breathtaking beautiful Going to the Sun Road. You can see glaciers, waterfalls, and stunning mountains. There is also so much wildlife and you may even see a mountain goat, bighorn sheep, or a bear! We really enjoyed hiking to Hidden Lake, on the Trail of Cedars, and Apakuni Falls.
Each hike has something to offer from being able to step into the frigid cold glacier water, to seeing amazing waterfalls, or a lake surrounded by mountains. Everywhere you turn in Glacier National Park you are met with a view more beautiful than the last!

19. Hamilton, New Zealand
Recommended by Nadine – Le Long Weekend.
Our favorite family travel destination is Hamilton in New Zealand . Hamilton is New Zealand’s best-kept secret when it comes to family holidays.
Our favorite activities include the Waikato Museum with its dedicated kid’s discovery areas; the Zoo where cheeky Kaka land on your shoulder in the walk-through aviary; and the themed Hamilton gardens which will transport you into a new civilization at every turn!
But what really sets Hamilton apart are the many ‘destination playgrounds’. These amazing parks have the usual fun fixtures, water features, in-ground trampolines, and multi-story playhouses. Great for keeping the little ones busy while you enjoy coffee from a nearby cafe!

20. Florida Keys, USA
Recommended by Carrie Anne – Everything Mom .
When thinking about traveling to Florida with the kids the first place to pop into your mind is probably Orlando. Perfect if you’re looking for thrill rides, but the Florida Keys can offer families the chance to experience the more natural side of the state, specifically Marathon .
Take in a little history exploring the oldest home in the Florida Keys outside of Key West as well as remnants of the Flagler Railroad that connected all of the Florida Keys.
Kids, especially those too young to enjoy more adventurous water pursuits, will love a nature scavenger hunt, swimming with fish, or meeting rescued birds at the Wild Bird Sanctuary. You can even enjoy lunch under a large tiki hut restaurant just off of the scenic Seven Mile Highway.
Marathon also makes a great family destination due to how close it is to the other islands such as Key West and Islamorada. This amazing place proves that your Florida family vacation adventure doesn’t have to include any roller coasters.
21. Dordogne, France
Recommended by Kirsten – Kids are a Trip.
The Dordogne region in France is one of our favorite places to explore as a family. With beautiful castles, rivers for canoeing, and medieval towns for exploring, it is the perfect place to get away from everything and spend some quality time with your kids.
We especially enjoyed the bucolic landscape and the friendliness of the locals and found there was plenty to do for families.

22. Swiss Mountains
Our personal recommendation.
This list wouldn’t be complete without me sharing at least one of our personal favorite family destinations as well. And if I have to choose just one, it has to be Switzerland!
Switzerland in general, and the Swiss mountains , in particular, has been one of our favorite travel destinations for years. We just love the Swiss Alps!
We try to go to Switzerland at least twice a year: skiing in winter and hiking in summer , and every time we don’t want to leave. Kids have asked several times if we could just move to Switzerland…
Charming mountain villages and small towns have such an amazing atmosphere that is hard to find anywhere else in the world. Add to that stunning landscapes, great food, and a huge variety of things to see and do for families with children, and you cannot go wrong planning a family trip to Switzerland.
TIP: Some of our favorite places include the Lucerne area , Zermatt , Mt Titlis , Grindelwald , Jungfraujoch , and Schynige Platte , to mention just a few.

Hi, we are a family of 4, kids aged 19 and 14 and have been to switzerland, dubai, milan, honkong, paris, istanbul already. We are unable to decide our next travel destination for November. What would you suggest?
Saturday 24th of June 2023
Hi Chitra, that's a tough choice indeed. Purely season-wise, I'd look into Southern Hemisphere for November I suppose. South Africa is amazing for a family trip and Namibia as well. Also Thailand could be a great option or Australia if you have more time. There are so many options. It also depends on where you live and how much time you have. We have quite some articles about the destinations mentioned above on our website, you can use the search button for some inspiration. Good luck!

What an amazing article Wish I could go to all these places Your suggestion for sightseeing that is not tropical for August around the world? Cities and sightseeing is the focus
Monday 22nd of May 2023
There are many places that are not too warm in August. UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Scandinavia, also pretty much anywhere in Poland or Baltic States. If you are looking for destinations around the world, consider South Africa or Namibia (more nature), and certain parts of Australia (also cities). There are plenty of options. :) Good luck!

Hi Jurga, thanks for all the suggestions. It's not easy to decide where to go next. We are a family of 4, kids age 8 and 11, and were thinking of Costa Rica, but are also considering Iceland. Thoughts?
Monday 7th of March 2022
Iceland vs. Costa Rica? They are so different... CR is warm, tropical, with beaches and pools, lots of fun outdoor activities, wildlife, and it's rather cheap compared to Iceland. Iceland is amazing but in a very different way - incredible vast landscapes, the most beautiful waterfalls, glaciers, great hot springs and geothermal pools to swim in... But - depending on when you travel - it can be really cold and - in winter - also dark. Even in summer, you'll usually need sweaters, jackets, etc. Iceland is also much more expensive... I think you should do a bit more research and see what interests you the most, or let it depend on the season - Iceland in summer and Costa Rica in winter. But if it's your first family trip, I honestly think that the entire family, and especially the kids will enjoy Costa Rica more, even if just for the weather. But after you do that trip, definitely do Iceland next - it's one of a kind!
21 best all-inclusive resorts for families
Long days in the sun, laid-back beach time , outdoor adventures and exciting culinary experiences: These are just a few things that make a family vacation one that the entire crew will remember for years to come.
When you vacation at a family-friendly all-inclusive resort , you have more opportunities to welcome those feelings of relaxation and discovery because there's no need to worry about being nickel-and-dimed for every meal or activity — most of those costs are already included in your room rate.
Every resort will offer something a little different — often depending on the location — from varying styles of accommodation (think connecting rooms, villas or cabins) to what the dining options look like and whether or not there is a kids club on the property. One thing they all have in common, though, is that the price you pay covers your room, dining and sometimes even on-site activities. That means you can leave your wallet in your room and just focus on kicking back and relaxing with the entire family, whether it's by a glimmering beach, on a sprawling ranch or nestled into a vast mountain range.

How do I choose an all-inclusive resort for my family?
There are hundreds of all-inclusive resorts worldwide, many with high-quality experiences for the whole family that offer a lot of value. So, how do you narrow it down?
When you're trying to choose the best all-inclusive resort for your own family, you'll want to think about the type of experience your family will enjoy. If you're an outdoorsy group, consider properties that offer lots of excursions, whether that's diving and kayaking or zip lining and horseback riding. If you're a food-focused family, you might want to opt for a resort that's known for its incredible dining options or cooking classes.
Another thing to consider is whether the resort has a kids club. Parents often want a little time away from the kids (or vice versa!), and on-site kids clubs can ensure that activities are tailored to different age groups.
Ahead, find our favorite family-friendly all-inclusive resorts to consider booking for an unforgettable vacation.
Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana is only 15 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) along the shores of Juanillo Beach. The resort has 375 oceanfront suites, including swim-up suites for families with children ages 13 and older. Dining options range from local Caribbean specialties to a wellness-focused restaurant with smoothies and vegan offerings and 24-hour room service for a late-night bite.
The resort's water park has winding waterslides for older kids and adults, a splash area with pint-size slides for the littles plus a lazy river the whole family can enjoy together. Parents who want to retreat to a private cabana for the afternoon can drop the kids off at the kids club (complete with an indoor treehouse). There's also a teen club for guests ages 13-17.
Pricing for Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana starts at around $453 or 35,000 World of Hyatt points per night for a family of four.
The Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya is actually two resorts in one. The Hacienda section welcomes adults and kids, while the Heaven section is for adults only.
Kids ages 4-12 can play the day away at the Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club while parents relax and enjoy bottomless cocktails at the adults-only pool or indulge at the full-service spa (for an additional fee). There are also daily activities like treasure hunts, crafts projects and pool games that families can participate in together.
The family can meet back up for a swim at the resort's private beach, enjoy family time at the Rockaway Bay water park and have a meal in one of the resort's eight dining establishments, such as the wood-fired pizzas at Pizzeto.
The ideal room type for families is the two-bedroom deluxe family room with one king and two double beds. It also has a balcony with a hammock, separate minibars for kids and adults and cozy bathrobes for adults and kids (how adorable is that?). True to the brand's rockin' roots, you can have a Crosley turntable or Fender guitar delivered to your room to use during your stay.
Pricing for Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya starts at around $352 per night for a family of four staying in a room with two double beds.
Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa offers 489 guest rooms in one large building, meaning you are never too far from the resort's exciting amenities. All rooms have a private balcony (or terrace if you are staying on the first floor) and picture windows that let you revel in the gorgeous Caribbean views even when you retreat to your room.
The resort boasts two private beaches — a small beach near the pool complex and an expansive beach area with shaded chairs and daybeds on the sand. The friendly staff will not hesitate to get you involved in the included activities — a befitting perk for outgoing families. Guests can also borrow kayaks and paddleboards to take out on the water.
Hotels with water parks are a key ingredient for successful family vacations, and Hilton Rose Hall's Sugar Mill Falls water park is one of Jamaica's largest. There's a large pool, a lazy river and a multilevel waterslide.
The spa offers indoor and beachside treatments (for an additional fee). There are also separate clubs for kids and teens with age-appropriate games and activities.
Pricing for Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa starts at around $270 or 61,000 Hilton Honors points per night for a family of four. Children under age 3 stay for free.
Giraffe Manor is not your typical all-inclusive resort. The resort has only 12 rooms — no two alike, but all equally charming — split between the Manor House and Garden Manor. Some rooms are situated in such a way that the namesake giraffes may wander up to your window in search of a small snack, but there are ample opportunities to interact with all of the giraffes who reside here.
You are likely to encounter a friendly giraffe poking his head in the window as you eat breakfast or strolling up to the terrace as you enjoy your afternoon tea. Don't worry, the hotel provides feeding pellets so they won't come after your meal (feeding pellets are provided in guest rooms with giraffe-feeding access, as well).
Pricing includes accommodations, airport transfers, all meals, most alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages and select activities.
Fully inclusive pricing for Giraffe Manor starts at $1,168 per person for adults and $805 for children.
As soon as you pull up to Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya , there's no denying it's a vacation destination designed for kids ... and kids at heart. Included activities range from pajama character breakfasts to live game shows. Dining, kids club access (for kids ages 4-12) and water park admission also come with the cost of your stay.
Brightly decorated rooms are a nod to popular Nickelodeon cartoons "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." There are daily character meet-and-greets, and, yes, you really can have gallons of green slime dumped over your head (you'll even get a photo to commemorate the experience).
The resort offers fun-filled seasonal events like the Summer of SpongeBob, Nick Jr. Friends Event and holiday celebrations. Another perk kids and parents will love: All rooms have swim-up access to either the main resort pool or your own balcony pool.
Pricing for Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya starts at around $669 per night for a family of four. Certain dates require a three-night minimum stay.
Club Med has probably the most comprehensive lineup of activities and experiences of any all-inclusive brand.
For those with relaxation in mind, Club Med Punta Cana has three outdoor pools, shaded loungers lining the beach and spacious, ocean-facing family suites where you can listen to the waves gently crashing when you need some downtime. The family suites have a sleeping area for parents with a king bed, a separate room for kids with two twin beds and a living area that opens to a furnished terrace.
Restaurants serve international and local cuisines and are convenient to the beach, the lagoon pool and the resort's main bar.
If you prefer an always-on-the-go vacation, you can perfect your acrobatic skills at circus school, head out on the water in a kayak or on a stand-up paddleboard, or test your skills with a bow and arrow.
While most all-inclusive resorts do not provide complimentary care for infants and toddlers, Club Med's kids clubs are available to kids as young as 4 months of age.
Pricing for Club Med Punta Cana starts at around $500 per night for a family of four. Children age 3 and under are free.
The Sheraton Samui Resort is a budget-friendly resort located directly on Chaweng Noi Beach. Chaweng Noi is quieter and more secluded than other nearby beaches, leaving its wide swaths of soft sand and calm, crystalline waters (don't forget your snorkeling gear) wide open for families looking for a laid-back tropical vacation.
Unlike traditional all-inclusive resorts, you must choose the all-inclusive package to receive all-inclusive benefits. Room-only rates are also available. The base all-inclusive package includes meals, nonalcoholic beverages, activities, a one-hour beachside massage, a cooking class and airport transfers. You can upgrade to packages that include alcoholic beverages and additional spa treatments.
The resort has two pools — one freshwater and one saltwater — where kids can swim while parents lounge on one of the poolside daybeds. There's also a beachfront kids club with toys, games and activities that kids can enjoy while parents visit the spa for a massage or hit the tennis courts for a friendly competition.
All-inclusive room rates for Sheraton Samui Resort start at around $131 per night. Marriott Bonvoy points cannot be redeemed for the all-inclusive package.

Each villa-style suite opens to the beach, pool or gardens. Some even have their own private plunge pool and furnished terrace. Spice Island Beach Resort is one of only a handful of AAA Five Diamond-rated properties in Grenada, and you'll experience the luxury that earned such a prestigious designation in all-inclusive offerings like fresh, flavorful cuisine, creative cocktails and activities like cycling, golfing, snorkeling and beachside yoga. An on-site kids club is available for kids ages 3-12.
Pricing for Spice Island Beach Resort starts at around $1,100 per night for a family of four.

In the winter, activities shift to cold-weather favorites like skiing, ice skating, sleigh rides and snow tubing. Horseback riding is available all year long.
There are seemingly endless activities that families can enjoy together. However, you may have trouble pulling your kids away from the supervised activities designed just for them. Kids ages 3-17 are split into groups for age-appropriate excursions, including preparing for the weekly "Shodeo" that's held weekly throughout the summer. During the Shodeo, kids have the opportunity to take to the riding ring and show off the skills they've learned during their time at the ranch.
Pricing for C Lazy U Ranch starts at $587 per person, per night for adults and $392 per night for kids.

It helps that the resort sits on a 1-mile stretch of beach and has eight restaurants, seven bars and five pools to serve only 250 guest rooms. Among the dining options, don't miss the Jerk Treehouse on the beach or the Silk fine dining fusion restaurant for dinner.
The rooms are split between an adults-only Harmony section and a family-centered Splash section. At Splash, families can stay in spacious rooms with private balconies that overlook the waterslides, lazy river and water playground at the water park.
In addition to the typical kids club activities, children have access to an animal sanctuary, nature walks and meet-and-greets with the resort's larger-than-life coconut mascots, Coco and Loco.
Pricing for Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa starts at around $552 per night for a family of four.

Vacationer’s Guide
Comparing destinations: which one is right for you.
When choosing a family vacation, it’s important to weigh the options first, depending on your preferences and budget.
It’s to ensure that every member of your family will have a great time in that particular place.
One option to consider is the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort.
What makes this stand out is its proximity to popular theme parks and the luxurious vibe of its rooms.
However, one potential disadvantage is its expensive room rates.
Another option to consider is Still Waters Resort in Branson.
This cozy resort has a range of activities, including water sports, fishing, and mini-golf.
Although its affordable prices make it a budget-friendly option, it’s in a remote location.
The Grand Hotel at the Grand Canyon is a great choice for those looking for a natural and scenic option.
It has astonishing canyon views and nearby hiking trails, but it lacks some kid-friendly activities.
If you’re looking for a luxurious alternative, The Beverly Hills Hotel – Dorchester Collection is a fantastic option.
With its iconic palm trees everywhere, this hotel offers a glamorous experience.
How I Picked The Destinations
As an experienced writer and traveler, I’ve had the opportunity to travel to several locations and gather valuable insights.
I began by reading online reviews and narrowing our choices based on price, family-friendly activities, and accessibility.
Following that, I talked to families and locals who had recently visited these locations and asked for their candid feedback and recommendations.
Our Rating Method
I rate these properties based on the following criteria:
- Kid-friendly Activities: I use this to evaluate the availability and variety of family-friendly amenities at every property. Does it feature playgrounds and kids’ clubs? Does it organize events designed specifically for kids? I ask myself these questions whenever I rate this property’s kid-friendly activities.
- Family Accommodations: This is used to assess the family accommodations of the property. Are the rooms spacious? Does it offer family suites with connecting rooms? Can it accommodate families of different sizes? Is there a crib or baby-proofing in every room? These questions are essential whenever I rate the property’s family accommodations.
- Dining Options: This evaluates the dining options at the property. Are there kid-friendly options at the property? Is there an on-site restaurant that caters to everyone’s dietary preferences and needs? I use these questions to assess the dining options of every property.
- Safety and Security: I use this criterion to assess the safety and security of every property. Are the premises secured? Is the staff trained to handle any emergency? I consider these factors when rating the property’s safety and security.
- Value for Money: This is used to evaluate the value for money of every property. Are the room rates reasonable? Are the services, activities, and amenities suitable for the price? I ask myself these questions to rate the value for money provided by the property.
- Location and Accessibility: This measures how accessible the property is for families. How far is it from the popular family attractions? Is it easily accessible via public transportation? I use these questions to evaluate the property’s location and accessibility.

Family tours
Who needs a buffet and a ball pit when you've got the whole world to play in?
Designed by parents for kids, both big and small, our family trips are the kind you’ll reminisce about for years to come. Full of authentic cultural experiences, the kids will have plenty to brag about at school. Think: playing soccer with Maasai warriors in Kenya , learning ancient martial arts with Buddhist monks in South Korea or sleeping in a traditional Navajo hogan in Monument Valley. With child-friendly accommodations and a local leader to handle the logistics, you can focus on making core memories. Your sense of adventure doesn't disappear when you have kids, so why should your family vacation options be limited?
Our teenage family trips have a minimum age of 10 and offer more active itineraries for older children.
If your little ones love fairytales, they’ll love waking up in the regal rooms of a 17th-century palace in Alsisar, Rajasthan. Nestled in a desert town full of legendary stories, this hotel oozes history and grandeur with manicured gardens, colorful courtyards and dazzling dining rooms you could spend hours exploring.
Learn how to play the taiko, an ancient instrument traditionally used to initiate ceremonies and call soldiers to battle. Made from large wooden barrels with animal skin stretched over both ends, it produces a thunderous sound that vibrates through your entire body. Watch the experts play before grabbing a pair of bachi wooden sticks and having a bash yourself.
Say ahoy! (or xin chao) to your Vietnamese captain and set sail around the karst-studded waters of Ha Long Bay. Cruise among hundreds of limestone islets, drop anchor to explore caves filled with stalactites and jump in for a swim with an epic backdrop. After enjoying a tasty dinner, head out to the deck where you’ll be wowed by a sky speckled with stars.
Who needs video games when you have an ancient city to explore? Angkor Thom, home to the iconic Angkor Wat, was once the largest pre-industrial city in history. Hop in a tuk-tuk with a guide from Driver Srey – a female-owned social enterprise empowering local women – and watch the ruins come alive. Then, wind through Ta Prohm’s maze-like passageways tangled with giant tree roots.
Saddle up for a sunset camel trek through the stunning Sahara. After journeying along the windswept dunes, you’ll be greeted by our local friends for a night in a desert camp. Enjoy a feast of traditional foods like tagine, couscous and pastilla before settling into the silence of the desert and gazing up at the Milky Way. If you’re lucky, you may see a shooting star (or 10)
These trips are for families only – including any grandparents, aunts or uncles who’d like to join, of course. As long as you’re traveling with a child aged between 5 (or 10 for some itineraries) and 17, you’re a family in our eyes. Plus, all travelers aged 17 and younger receive a 10% discount .
Our groups are small enough to avoid the crowds and reach out-of-the-way places, but big enough for a good social mix. Our average group size of 10 allows us to hop aboard local boats, buses or trains, eat at family-run restaurants, and stay in traditional guesthouses and homestays.
Traveling with us is a bit like traveling with old friends. You’ll join a group of 3 to 5 families from all over the world, and the kids tend to hit it off straight away so you can enjoy some well-earned R&R. We often find that families stay in touch long after the trip ends.
Boredom? Nope. The biggest challenge of traveling with kids is keeping them entertained, which is why our trips have plenty of fun activities and free time. We try to keep traveling time to a minimum and use hotels with pools. Your leader can also suggest activities based on your kid’s hobbies or curriculum.
Our leaders are specially trained to run family adventures, so you and the kids will be well taken care of. You can also rest easy knowing we conduct safety assessments on all our activities to meet local standards as well as our own comprehensive safety policy.
As the world’s largest travel B Corp , we use travel as a force for good. We give back to the communities we visit, carbon offset our trips and take our social and environmental responsibilities seriously. When you travel with us, you travel with purpose.

Russia is losing more than 1,000 soldiers a day as ‘cannon fodder,’ uk says.
Russia is continuing to lose more than 1,000 soldiers every day fighting in Ukraine , with the latest average putting the losses at nearly four times what it was during the initial invasion, according to UK military officials.
While both Moscow and Kyiv have stayed silent on the number of troops killed in the war, the UK Ministry of Defense estimated Monday that Russia lost 1,187 troops daily in August, with September expected to have matching numbers.
UK officials said the Kremlin’s casualty count peaked in May with an estimated 1,262 troops killed a day, with the number remaining over 1,100 since then.
May’s number, which saw a dramatic uptick over the violent battles in Kharkiv , was nearly four times that of March 2022, the first complete month after Russia began its invasion where it lost about 386 soldiers a day, according to UK officials.
“Poorly trained Russian soldiers are being used as cannon fodder,” the Ukraine-ally said in a post tallying up the latest death count.
Since the start of the war, UK officials estimate that Russia has likely suffered more than 610,000 casualties, far beyond previous estimates reported about last week.
Western intelligence tallied Russian casualties closer to 200,000 , with the number of wounded at about 400,000, according to the Wall Street Journal .
Meanwhile, Ukraine has lost an estimated 80,000 troops, with as many as 400,000 others injured.
The exact figures, however, are unclear and hard to determine as both countries have declined to release estimates — or have put out figures that could not be independently verified.
The latest death toll estimates come as intense battles return to Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, where a Russian airstrike left 21 people wounded after hitting a high-rise apartment.
President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strike as he urged his western allies to supply Kyiv with long-range missiles to fire directly at Russia.
Ukraine needs full long-range capabilities, and we are working to convince our partners of this,” Zelensky said on X during his visit to the US this week.

Family speak of heartbreak after ‘extraordinary dad’ found dead in Whitsundays region
The shattered family of an “extraordinary” dad have spoken out following a tragic discovery four weeks after he went missing in the Whitsundays.
‘Absurd’: Couple banned for seat-recline row
Fury as tiny passport detail dashes plans
Man accused of fake mayday calls at airport
The heartbroken family of a father-of-two found dead in the Whitsundays a month after going missing have spoken out about the “extraordinary man” who was a “loving partner” and “talented artist”.
Following a desperate month-long search for 40-year-old Joel Pringle , a well-known graphic designer, the mother of his youngest son, Eve Houghton made the devastating announcement that he had been found.
Taking to a dedicated Facebook page created to assist with search efforts for Mr Pringle, a heartbroken Ms Houghton said the search had concluded in the most tragic way.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Joel was found late yesterday [Tuesday] evening. Unfortunately he has passed,” Ms Houghton’s post on the Find Joel Pringle Facebook page read.
“We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has come together in the search for Joel – family, friends, and the many people who travelled from far and wide to help.”
Ms Houghton’s mum, Natalie Stockdale, described Mr Pringle — who was due to turn 40 just days after going missing — as an “extraordinary man” whose “greatest loves” were his young family.
In an interview with news.com.au, Ms Stockdale said Mr Pringle was “funny, clever and had a great sense of humour.”
“He considered Eve as his soulmate. Eve and his two sons were his greatest loves.” Ms Stockdale recalled through tears.
Ms Stockdale said Mr Pringle was “incredibly talented with his art and drawings,” and that his death was “a devastating time, especially for Eve and their boys.”
“He was determined to create a life of fun, love and adventure for him and his family,” she explained.
“He loved living on their yacht in the Whitsundays before they bought their first house. He loved jetskiing and mountain biking around the Whitsundays.
“They loved the freedom.”
Speaking through tears and on behalf of Ms Houghton, Ms Stockdale said her 28-year-old daughter had endured a “gruelling” four-week search for Mr Pringle, that ended in “profound and overwhelming sadness”.
“The month-long search for Joel was incredibly gruelling for Eve,” Ms Stockdale said.
“She never gave up, tirelessly searching until the very last day. Along the way, we encountered signs that gave us hope he was still alive, but sadly, they turned out to be false, which made our emotions swing between hope and despair.
“Now that Joel has been found, we thought we’d feel some relief, but instead, it’s a profound and overwhelming sadness.”
“Eve is deeply distressed, as you can imagine, but she’s also strong and resilient, with wisdom far beyond her 28 years.
“She and their little son are surrounded by a strong support system of family and friends. Eve is deeply grateful for the incredible effort the local community made to find Joel, and for the love that continues to surround her and her family.”
Ms Houghton, who gave birth to their son in April last year, moved with Mr Pringle from Melbourne to the Whitsundays region in 2019 after they “sold everything” and lived aboard a yacht.
Mr Pringle often posted about his travels and lifestyle to his 45k followers on Instagram.
“We spend time island hopping, working and enjoying tropical island,” he wrote alongside a social media post of their pair on the yacht.
“It definitely wasn’t easy to live on a boat, but one of the best things we have done.”
Mr Pringle and Ms Houghton welcomed a baby boy in April last year, with the doting dad posting pictures and videos of his son.
“Monty we are so in love with you little guy! Best thing about the studio is your visits,” he wrote alongside one video holding his newborn.
More Coverage
Mr Pringle’s death is being treated as non-suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
“The body of a 40-year-old man reported missing from Cannonvale has been located,” the statement sent to news.com.au read.
“The media and the public are thanked for their assistance.”

When is ‘Jersey Shore: Family Vacation’ on?
“Jersey Shore: Family Vacation” continues on Thursday, May 16 at 8 p.m. on MTV. It will be followed by a rerun at 9 p.m., and a slate of “Ridiculousness” reruns at 10 p.m.
Who is in the “Jersey Shore: Family Vacation” cast?
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi – Snooki was the breakout star from the original series. She is most commonly linked with Jenni “JWOWW” Farley, along with Deena Cortese, with whom she hosts “The Meatball Pod” podcast.
Jenni “JWOWW” Farley – JWOWW is known as the tough girl of the series. Along with her connections to Snooki, JWOWW was originally linked to Pauly “DJ Pauly D” Delvecchio - the two had a “will they/won’t they” relationship in the original series, which led to them hooking up but never dating.
Pauly “DJ Pauly D” Delvecchio – The most successful cast member on and off the show. He was a DJ before the series, though it dramatically elevated his status. Now he is able to DJ all over the world. He is the comedian of the group, known for making up some of the most popular catchphrases from the show, such as “It’s T-Shirt Time” and “Cabs are here!”
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino – Initially, “The Situation” was considered the “villain” of the show; he often stirred up drama among the other cast members. He was sentenced to prison time in 2018 for tax evasion after not paying taxes on his earnings between 2010-2012. In 2023, Mike celebrated 7 years sober and has been a vocal advocate for sobriety and lifestyle changes.
Vinny Guadagnino – The youngest cast member on the series, Vinny was just over 21 at the time of the original “Jersey Shore.” He is the biggest prankster of the group, and is often associated with Pauly D.
Deena Bucker (formerly Cortese) – Deena was a late addition to the series after dropping out of the original season due to a family emergency. She knew Snooki prior to the series, and when Angelina left after season 2, they brought in Deena to fill out the cast.
Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola – Sammi coined herself “the sweetest bitch you’ll ever meet” but was often embroiled in arguments with all of the women of the series, particularly JWOWW and Snooki. Her tumultuous relationship with Ronnie Ortiz-Magro was well-documented in the original series, in which they often broke up while drunk.
Angelina Pivarnick – Angelina has been in and out of the series since the beginning, clashing with most of the cast. She is still treated as the villain of the series. Angelina is also the one who surprised the cast by bringing back Sammi.
Ronnie Ortiz-Magro – Ron has been called the most “toxic” person on “Jersey Shore.” His behavior towards Sammi on the original series is often denounced as extremely abusive. He has made something of a return to the series.
