Teeming with rural villages and vast countryside, Belfast is an explorer’s playground. Cruise to the British Isles and walk through the basalt formations of Giant’s Causeway. Stroll through the Botanic Gardens and observe the park’s Victorian heritage. Or experience true country living in the cottage of a breadmaker, where you can make fresh-baked goods to accompany your afternoon cup of tea.

In a land where fable and fact blend to become folklore, Cork is a beacon of romance among Ireland’s iconic cities. On a British Isles cruise, see the city’s emerald terrains reflected in the lakes of Killarney National Park. Savor an Irish coffee in the 18th-century village of Blarney. Or enjoy a lunch on the hills of Cashel, with the Romanesque architecture of St. Patrick’s Rock as your backdrop.

Experience the best of Irish hospitality on a British Isles cruise to Dublin. Stop by a pub and hear stories of the city from the people who call it home. Tour Trinity College, one of the world’s most famous universities. Or discover the secrets to brewing a stout at the Guinness Storehouse, and sip on a complimentary glass just a few hundred yards from where it’s made.

With centuries of cultural change, Edinburgh is home to a diverse landscape of design. Cruise the British Isles and follow the Royal Mile to the top of Castle Rock, where Edinburgh Castle sits overlooking the city below. Marvel at the expansive collection of artwork in the Royal Yacht Britannia, or shop for souvenirs on Princes Street while admiring the Georgian architecture of New Town.

Once an industrial giant, Glasgow is brimming with treasure. When you cruise the British Isles, wander the halls of Inveraray Castle to see a collection of royal portraits. Watch a kaleidoscopic display in Glasgow Cathedral as the sun pours through the stained-glass windows. Or spend the day admiring armor, weaponry and global gems in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

Orkney is home to some of the oldest Neolithic sites in Europe. On a British Isles cruise, history buffs can hear World War II stories at the Italian Chapel. Or travel along Scapa Flow for an even deeper look into the region’s history of naval travel and trade. For those seeking mysteries, uncover secrets of the Ring of Brodgar, part of the Heart of Neolithic Orkney, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In a land that inspires love stories, reconnect with loved ones on a British Isles cruise to France. Dock in Le Havre and enjoy a breakfast crepe at a sidewalk cafe. Or embark on a day-long adventure in one of two directions. Visit Paris, where famous artwork awaits, or head to Normandy and see the D-Day beaches or the tidal island of Mont Saint Michel. From the painted portraits to the real-life scenery, revel in it all with Princess.

Used to build Buckingham Palace and St. Paul’s Cathedral, the stone extracted from Portland’s quarries has changed history. But there’s more to the city than it’s commodities. Cruise the British Isles to investigate the mysteries of Stonehenge, and learn about the grape-to-glass process at Langham Wine Estate. Or see hundreds of baby swans parading through the grounds of the 600-year-old Abbotsbury Swannery.

Why Cruise the British Isles

The British pubs, Parisian artwork and Irish castles invite you to live like royalty.

Storied and splendid

Castles are the emblem of these regions. Between the chandeliers and tapestries, step into luxury when you visit the British Isles. Cruise to Dublin and parade through the 13th-century halls of the city’s fortress. Experience the grandeur of Urquhart Castle, and search for legendary ghosts in Glamis Castle. Or visit Edinburgh Castle, where kings, queens and nobles once lived and medieval secrets continue to linger.

Melodies of memories past

As the birthplace of many music icons, the British Isles invite you to sing, dance and raise a glass to songs played around the globe. Visit Liverpool to walk in the footsteps of a beloved boyband, and head to a local pub to hear the boys at their best. Cruise the British Isles for an evening of Irish song and dance in Dublin, or watch the Edinburgh Military Tattoo assemble bands, bagpipes and drums for a soul-stirring show.

Globally recognized, historically prominent

The British Isles are a mecca of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Cruise from Southampton to Liverpool, and walk along the Royal Albert Dock, the first structure in Britain to be constructed without wood. Shop along Princes Street in Edinburgh’s New Town. Or travel to Brú na Bóinne in Dublin and get up close to Europe’s largest collection of prehistoric megalithic art.

Raise a glass to adventure

In lands famous for their stouts and ales, pubs are the cornerstone of tradition. Cruise the British Isles and step into age-old establishments that are bustling with spirit. In Dublin, get a taste of true pub “craic” — an Irish term that equates to an atmosphere of fun, entertainment and good company. With festive music playing in the background, sip on world-famous beers that originated nearby while sharing a laugh with locals.

Natural Phenomena

Unexplainable yet undeniable

Discern fact versus fiction on a British Isles cruise, where mysteries and mythologies abound. In Portland, learn about the 5,000-year-old stone circle that displays an advanced understanding of arithmetic and astrology. On itineraries that sail to Cork, search the sea for the Bioluminescence beams created by the region’s gleaming plankton. Or hunt for Invergordon’s legendary monster in the waters of Loch Ness.

Museums & Art Galleries

Ancient artifacts and acclaimed artwork

No cruise to the British Isles is complete without a visit to Paris. See “Venus de Milo” and da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa,” or tour Notre Dame, a work of art in and of itself. Visit the Irish Emigration Museum in Dublin, where interactive galleries invite you to explore. Those departing from London can also stop by the Victoria and Albert Museum which houses over two million artifacts.

British Isles excursions

Our award-winning shore excursions bring you up close to beautiful coasts, monuments and historical wonderlands. On a British Isles cruise, snap photos of Dublin’s iconic sites — like St. Stephen’s Green and Christ Church Cathedral — and taste a world-famous stout at the Guinness Storehouse. Or ride through quaint villages in Belfast on your way to Giant’s Causeway, and revel in the natural structures that surround you.

Local connections

When you cruise the British Isles, meet the diverse personalities that call these lands home. In Dublin, head to a countryside bed and breakfast where a local chef invites you to savor homemade scones and jam. Or set out on a day-long tour in Cork with your loved ones and visit the city’s most iconic sites. Stop by the 18th-century village of Kinsale, and then continue to Blarney Castle, where legends and landmarks await.

More ashore

Enjoy even more history and culture during your British Isles cruise with More Ashore late-night departures and overnight stays. Visit several pubs during an evening tour, and hear stories from locals over a pint of local brew. Savor a traditional Scottish dinner in Edinburgh, and see the Royal Mile illuminated by street lamps and the evening light. Or explore Dublin by night, and indulge in Irish entertainment.

Or book an appointment at the Lotus Spa®, named "Best Spa on a Cruise Ship" by Spafinder Wellness 365™. Vegas hits the seas

Experience the thrill of cards, dice, roulette and blackjack at the casino onboard our European cruises. For an afternoon full of games, join fellow travelers for Bingo, or compete in scheduled group tournaments.

Cruises to the British Isles

From legendary landscapes to a rich history, there’s so much to explore on British Isles cruises. Discover iconic sites like the White Cliffs of Dover and the mysterious wonders of Stonehenge. Follow in the footsteps of the Beatles in Liverpool. Journey to Dorset’s Corfe Castle, one of the country’s most picturesque ruins.

Shop for Waterford crystal in Ireland, and kiss the famous stone at Blarney Castle. In Scotland, learn the secrets of whisky, cruise the still waters of beautiful Loch Lomond, and explore the imposing Inveraray Castle. Wherever you visit on our European cruises to the British Isles, you’ll discover green, rolling landscapes, sleepy rural villages, dynamic cities, and layer upon layer of history. Whether your interest is music, medieval history, historic pubs, or fashion, you’ll find it here.

British Isles Cruise Highlights

Majestic castles.

Experience the storied history of the British Isles through the region’s famous castles. From Dover, travel to London and marvel at the 11th-century Tower of London, home of the Crown Jewels. In Kent, see dreamy, 900-year-old Leeds Castle, where Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon lived. Edinburgh Castle is a must, perched imperiously on Castle Rock, while 15th-century Stirling Castle whisks you back to the time of the great Scottish kings and queens.

Pub Culture

Pubs are endemic to British culture, and every village has at least one, where you’ll find a bucolic garden, a roaring fire in the cooler months, a fine array of beers on tap, and often, gourmet “pub grub”. Chat with locals in Ireland over a pint of Guinness, or sip cider in the sunshine in leafy Dorset or Kent. Seek out pubs in London that date back to the 16th century, frequented by such luminaries as Dickens, Keats, and the highwayman Dick Turpin. You’ll always find a friendly welcome.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites

The British Isles are packed with UNESCO World Heritage Sites, both natural and man-made. The elegant city of Bath has one of the best-preserved Roman spas in the world, while Stonehenge dates back 5,000 years. From Belfast, explore Giant’s Causeway, a phenomenal natural wonder comprising thousands of basalt columns. In London, admire the blooms and exotic flora at Kew’s Royal Botanic Gardens, or the gracious Palladian architecture of Maritime Greenwich, bisected by the 0° longitude meridian.

Featured British Isles Cruise Ports

Liverpool, england.

Liverpool is rich in maritime history and popular culture. If you’re a Beatles fan, you can visit the humble childhood homes of John, Paul, George, and Ringo. See Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields, both of which inspired songs, and the Cavern Club, where it all began. Other Liverpool sights include the Three Graces, three iconic buildings on Pier Head, from where early emigrants to the United States departed. Visit the Cathedral, the largest in Britain, with soaring Gothic arches.

Belfast, Northern Ireland

Dynamic Belfast, today a thriving, modern city, is famed as the epicenter of the “Troubles” that spanned three decades from the 1960s. Visit the Peace Wall that separates Catholic and Protestant areas, daubed with poignant murals, as well as the infamous Crumlin Road Gaol, operational until 1996 and believed to be haunted. Titanic followers shouldn’t miss the superb Titanic Belfast exhibit, which tells the story in multiple dimensions of the world’s most famous ship, which was built here.

Dover, England

Dover is the gateway to the historic towns, lush countryside, and natural attractions of southeast England. Visit the White Cliffs of Dover for dramatic landscapes, wartime history, and coastal vistas. Venture to Canterbury to explore Canterbury Cathedral, dating back 1,400 years, and explore moated Leeds Castle, once home to six medieval queens. Spend the day in nearby Tenterden, where you can ride a vintage railway and taste English wine. Or head to London, an easy day trip away.

British Isles Cruise Itineraries

Explore the British Isles on either Celebrity Silhouette, which sails out of the Dutch port of Rotterdam, or Celebrity Apex, which is based in Southampton all summer long. Cruises last from 11 to 13 nights, incorporating exciting ports in Iceland or circumnavigating Britain.

Itineraries

Why cruise to the british isles with celebrity cruises.

Cruise the British Isles with Celebrity and you’ll have a choice of convenient departure ports including Rotterdam, just an hour away from Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and Southampton, England, a seamless journey from London. You’ll be able to enjoy the comforts of a sophisticated, contemporary ship for your European adventure.

The revolutionized Celebrity Silhouette features stylish, modern design, impeccable service, and, like all our ships, menus crafted by a chef. Gaze out at Britain’s towering cliffs and green coastlines from the al fresco Lawn Club Grill, or feast on French classics with a contemporary twist in Murano. On Celebrity Apex, head to the leafy, light-filled lounge, Eden, for cocktails and dinner, or have lunch in the sunshine at the Rooftop Garden. Sink into a sofa on the Magic Carpet, an al fresco lounge high above the water with uninterrupted sea views. Choose The Retreat for suite accommodation, access to a private sundeck and lounge, and a table in the chic restaurant, Luminae at The Retreat.

11-day cruise to Amsterdam, Dover, Inverness, Lerwick, Greenock, Belfast, Liverpool, Holyhead, Amsterdam on board Jewel of the Seas.

Day 0 amsterdam, netherlands.

Amsterdam is a popular tourist destination for both new and returning visitors all year. Many cruise ships arriving in the Dutch capital berth at the unique premises of Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA). There is a fairytale quality to the tree-lined canal streets of Amsterdam. Boutiques, cafes, apartments, and hotels may hide behind the facades of the gabled townhouses, but the look of this beautiful old city has not changed much since its 17th-century Golden Age.

Day 1 Dover, England

Located 70 miles to the east of London, Dover is one of the most modern and progressive cruise ports in the country, with highly trained personnel and award-winning customer service in England's southeastern county of Kent. The iconic White Cliffs of Dover are symbolic safeguards at Britain's closest point to continental Europe. There are frequent trains to London leaving from Dover Priory Station.

Day 2 Inverness, Scotland

Inverness is in the North of Scotland and known as Scotland's 'Highland Capital'. With its suspension bridges across the River Ness and old stone buildings, it is a pretty place which is well-known for its floral displays. Most popular places to see are The Tomatin Distillery, Fortrose Cathedral, Corrimony Chambered Cairn and Inverness Historic Trail.

Day 3 Lerwick, Scotland

Lerwick is the main port of the Shetland Islands, Scotland, located more than 100 miles off the north coast of mainland Scotland on the east coast of the Shetland Mainland. Lerwick is home to an impressive collection of interesting attractions and places of historic significance with much to intrigue the curiosity of visitors to the city.

Day 4 At Sea, At Sea

Wonderful day at Sea.

Day 5 Greenock, Scotland

Greenock, formerly a burgh in the historic county of Renfrewshire, is a town and administrative center in the Inverclyde council area in Scotland, United Kingdom. Along with Gourock to the west and Port Glasgow to the east, it makes up a continuous urban area. Glasgow is Scotland's largest city and is renowned for its culture, style and the friendliness of its people. It's also famed for its Victorian and art nouveau architecture, a rich legacy of the city's 18th-20th-century prosperity due to trade and shipbuilding. Greenock is industrial town and port, hemmed in by hills. Main town attractions are: Town Hall, Custom House, churches, Sheriff Court, various mansions and the Watt Monument Library. Underheugh Cottage, is a working smallholding that is completely self-reliant. The owners organize various activities such as pig-keeping lessons, nature walks, gardening courses and the opportunity to dress up like an ancient Scottish.

Day 6 Belfast, Northern Ireland

Belfast is Northern Ireland's capital. If passing through as part of a cruise, be sure to head straight for the so-called Golden Mile, which runs from Belfast City Hall to Queen's University, and is where you'll find the majority of the city's historic attractions as well as its best bars, restaurants and cafes.

Day 7 Liverpool, England

The Port of Liverpool is 7.5 miles dock system that runs on the the River Mersey. Liverpool is a city with unique attractions, exciting events, legendary football clubs and a rich musical heritage that includes the Beatles, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and other groups from the Merseybeat era.

Day 8 Holyhead, Wales

Holyhead is a town in Wales and a major Irish Sea port serving Ireland. Settlements in the area date from prehistoric times, with circular huts, burial chambers and standing stones featuring in the highest concentration in Britain. The current lighthouse is on South Stack on the other side of Holyhead Mountain and is open to the public.

There’s no predicting when you’re likely to get good weather in Ireland. Summer could happen any weekend in May though Sept 😎 . There will be more tourists in Aug than June or July. For what it’s worth, the days are at their longest in June. If you get clear weather then you’ll have daylight until 9:30pm - 10pm.

Considering the best time for a British Isles cruise depending on weather, I agree with what BillyBaltic posted. When it rains in the Spring,it is called a “soft rain” instead of steady downpours. But, there is a possibility of rain in the forecast for any particular day during all the months mentioned.

As regards to port calls , May and June may be  the better months to choose for a British Isles cruise as there may be fewer tourists during those months before school vacations begin.

Wishing you good luck for booking a cruise to a British Isles cruise in 2022,as there continues to be much uncertainty concerning the Covid pandemic and the future of cruises. No harm in thinking positive though.

We just booked the August cruise as the wife's peak work time is July, so it was August for us. But we found a real real nice group rate that is fully refundable too.

Did you book thru the cruise line or thru a travel agent?  By group rate; does that mean you're traveling with  a large group?.  Thanks

Thanks for the info.  If we can adjust our schedule we may try for next June.  We have a prior commitment the first week of June; so will check it out.

Thanks for your feedback.  I am not too worried about cruising next summer.  This summer is probably out;  so we will look for next year.  Have a great day.

Group rates are just rates that are held by TA’s at a lower price than if you were to book direct through the cruise line.  They are also refundable and come with OBC.  Not all agents have access to them and generally the larger TA’s will have more groups and space available.  There are lots of groups where no one in the group knows anyone else.

Thanks

I don't think there will be any difference between June and August weather wise here in the UK.

Possibly slightly longer days in June and it will be quieter in the ports visited. If sailing in August there may be more tourist things happening with more people visiting as school holidays generally run from around 20th July to 1st September here.

Enjoy the British Isles and Ireland, personally I wouldn't be too concerned about uncertainty in 2022 visiting the UK as the poster above mentioned. If this is still going on in 18 months time then we are all really in trouble so I'm in the positive camp.

We are also sailing on Jewel from Amsterdam in 2022 visiting the Arctic Circle and can't wait.

Ourusualbeach;  thank you for your reply.  Tin can I appreciate your feedback too.

The weather in Scotland is unpredictable during June to August, and our schools take their summer break from end June to mid August, the schools in England break later.    I don't know which ports you're visiting, but if Edinburgh is a port of call, you may want to keep in mind that the Edinburgh Military Tattoo takes place in August, and I know this is very popular with tourists all over, as is the Edinburgh Festival, which also makes it a busy time to visit too.

If/when you sail, ensure you pack a brolly (Umbrella), and light rainproof jacket, and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Hoopster95;  thanks I enjoyed reading this.  We actually changed our trip from July to August.  Price went down almost $500 by going a month later.  Cheers

Hoopster95,  after reading your 2018 thread I noticed you have been on all the Radiance Class ships.  So my question to you;  are they all basically the same layout?  I am going on Jewel and have not sailed RCI in over ten years.  Have been on Freedom, Majesty, Explorer, Voyager, Allure;  so this class will be a first for my wife and I.

I'm not Hoopster, but I prefer RCI's Radiance-class ships to its larger ships with a Royal Promenade. I most recently cruised on both Jewel and Brilliance in the fall of 2019, and the layouts were very similar.

NancyIL; thanks for your feedback.  I have read this class of ship has lots of glass for viewing;  and also this class of ship was built to sail in cold weather; so most of it is enclosed; like the solarium.  Cheers

Suggest you read this for your day in Guernsey... a fascinating charming little island with an incredible history.

Also recommend you watch this movie 🎥 to give you a further insight into the hardships of the island during the war: “The Guernsey Literary and potato Peel pie Society”.  The book is better than the film though.

We did this cruise in 2018 and loved it.  When we got to Dover we decided to just wander around the town.  One of the best things we saw at any port was in the Dover museum.  It was a Bronze Age ship that had been discovered when they did some roadwork.  The museum was small, but really nice (and free)!

DH is of Scottish ancestry, so we had a private tour in Inverness.  We had time to see everything and lunch at a neat tavern near Cawdor castle.

Weather wasn’t what we expected.  It was 90 in Dublin!

Great trip, I’d love to do it again.

5 best luxury Caribbean cruises for next winter's getaway

Janice Wald Henderson

Imagine: You're lounging poolside in a tranquil port, your novel the only distraction from an azure sky melting into a turquoise sea. No jostling passengers or behemoth ships docked on either side, casting shadows, blocking breezes and blaring music.

Later, a white-gloved butler welcomes you back after a small-group excursion — perhaps lunch at an exclusive resort — with complimentary Champagne and caviar. More than likely, you're staying in a suite or oversized cabin, your plush bed dressed in silken sheets and fluffy down pillows.

Welcome to luxury cruising in the Caribbean, where personalized pampering and indulgence go hand-in-(white)-glove with exploring less-visited islands and serene harbors away from tourist crowds — and where access to fancy hotels, private clubs and championship golf courses proves easy-peasy. Upscale ships retreat to the tropics to escape from winter's chill, and you will want to book early for the best prices and suite availability.

To inspire your next getaway, we've chosen the five best luxury Caribbean cruises for the 2024-2025 winter season.

SeaDream Yacht Club

royal caribbean british isle cruise

Would you like to yacht your way through the Caribbean? Then consider SeaDream Yacht Club 's 112-passenger SeaDream I and twin SeaDream II cruise ships.

On these teeny posh ships, the passenger-to-crew ratio is one-to-one, and outdoor space abounds. Scoring deck chairs, a romantic alfresco dining table for two or a massage in the Thai-inspired SeaDream Spa is a snap.

Fares include superb, sophisticated cuisine (plus delicious raw, vegan and organic dishes), fine wines, gratuities and watersport activities like paddleboarding, jet-skiing and even a fun slide whooshing you from the yacht to the sea.

A seven-night Leeward Islands Discovery on SeaDream I, round-trip Philipsburg, Sint Maarten, sounds particularly alluring (although every SeaDream cruise sounds, well, dreamy). In most cases, you'll anchor, rather than dock, at these beyond-beautiful islands, with primarily private yachts for company.

Sail into halcyon ports, like Norman Island in the British Virgin Islands, for stunner hikes and superb snorkeling and scuba diving. The ship's early morning anchor off Spanish Town in Virgin Gorda is designed so that you may experience "The Baths" before the hordes of big-ship cruisers arrive. Wait until you see this natural wonder of maze-like boulders and caverns leading to a powdery white-sand beach and crystalline waters.

Savor St. Barths' French vibe, where chichi boutiques and Paris-meets-the-tropics restaurants thrive. Scuba dive, swim with dolphins, hike and bike with ship officers or play golf at a posh resort.

A major SeaDream perk is the signature Champagne and Caviar Splash (perhaps on Antigua's Prickly Pear Island), with officers serving caviar from a surfboard in shallow water. Smiling servers roll up their pants, wade in and ensure glasses of bubbly are filled to the top.

SeaDream I departs on this seven-night cruise, sailing round-trip from St. Maarten, on February 1, 2025. Fares start from $3,999 per person.

Silversea Cruises

royal caribbean british isle cruise

Pretty much every moment feels pinch-me on board Silversea Cruises ' 596-passenger Silver Moon . Revel in a spacious suite with a smiling butler primed for pampering. Sustainable Ars Italica Oscietra caviar is served anytime, anywhere, at no extra charge; such sensational roe normally costs a bundle.

On a 10-night cruise, you can visit all eight restaurants on board and spend the last evening dining in-suite, with your butler serving dinner course-by-course. Culinary highlights include Caribbean-inspired dishes at S.A.L.T. Kitchen, hand-fashioned pastas at La Terrazza and Kaiseki's exquisite Japanese plates.

Post-dinner, belly-up to Silver Note's bar; the velvety-voiced jazz singer always amazes. Alcohol and most eateries are complimentary, and the no-tipping culture makes onboard life more enjoyable.

Around the ship, you can learn to prepare Caribbean cuisine in a hands-on cooking class, dance to the Panorama Lounge's live band, break a sweat in the Fitness Centre or seek Lady Luck at the casino. Or succumb to treatments at Zagara Beauty Spa; the wide array includes massages, body wraps and acupuncture. With so much happening on board, you might forget to leave the ship.

Please don't; the Caribbean ports are perfect, and the shore excursions are complimentary. On this round-trip Fort Lauderdale cruise, you can explore several idyllic isles, each one prettier than the next.

In über-glam St. Barths, wave credit cards in posh boutiques, snorkel in coral reefs teeming with bright-hued fish or join a romantic catamaran sail at sunset. In Antigua, book a Segway beach tour or zip-line through a rainforest. On St. Kitts, sink into a waiting chaise on Cockleshell Bay and splash in the ever-inviting Caribbean Sea. Silver Moon also offers tee times at the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club — one of the Caribbean's most scenic — and a lazy day at the exclusive Carambola Beach Club.

Silver Moon departs on this 10-night Caribbean cruise, sailing round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, on January 6, 2025. Fares start from $5,900 per person.

The 600-passenger Seabourn Ovation shows superbly on a Caribbean cruise. The casually elegant (think country club-ish) Seabourn ship offers guests multiple opportunities to lounge outside, admiring the region's impeccable scenery. Don't be surprised when servers quickly learn your name and favorite cocktail.

Want to splurge? Book a day in the Retreat, a VIP enclave with 15 private cabanas circling a central whirlpool and shaded by a flower-shaped canopy. Here, melt into a massage in the Spa Treatment Cabana or schmooze with fellow passengers at the private bar.

Even if you don't visit the Retreat, you'll love that this all-suite ship includes so many amenities, including primo caviar service, gratuities, wine and spirits and fine dining. (Don't miss Solis, the new signature Mediterranean restaurant launching in 2024; the buzz is it will be a knockout.)

Balance fine dining with working out at the expansive, well-equipped fitness center. Find your Zen at wellness-driven programs designed in partnership with integrative medicine pioneer and icon Dr. Andrew Weil.

The 14-night Exotic Caribbean in Depth itinerary provides ample time to revel in the ship's amenities and pleasures ashore. This cruise, sailing round-trip from Barbados, visits St. Lucia, Antigua, Barbuda, Guadeloupe, British Virgin Islands and Nevis. At Sopers Hole (Frenchmans Cay), BVI, rub shoulders with the yachting crowd at cafes, restaurants and bars. Relish time in Bequia (the Grenadines' largest isle) in Admiralty Bay, another yachter hot spot.

Seabourn's Caviar in the Surf is paradisiacal perfection. It stars a lavish beach barbecue luncheon on a stunning white-sand beach, with uniformed crew members serving Champagne and caviar at a surfboard bar.

Seabourn Ovation departs on this 14-night cruise, sailing round-trip from Barbados, on January 18, 2025. Fares start from $6,999 per person.

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection

royal caribbean british isle cruise

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection 's two all-suite ships totally vibe superyacht. The second — and newest — ship, 448-passenger Ilma (which debuts in 2024), will cosset you in luxury and indulgence, with a nearly one-to-one passenger-to-crew ratio.

Expect abundant outdoor space for lounging, dining alfresco or enjoying watersports like kayaking and paddleboarding from the yacht's marina. On Ilma, even the smallest 294-square-foot suite provides a generous-sized private veranda, with features like an espresso machine and a double-vanity bath with an oversized shower.

Count on many inclusions, such as five restaurants, 24-hour in-suite dining, a personal concierge, alcohol and gratuities. A signature Ritz-Carlton spa, gym and humidor also beckon. Good to know that the ship hosts RitzKids programs year-round (three a day for ages 4 to 12) with enhanced activities during the summer and holidays — rare on a small luxury ship.

The seven-night round-trip Bridgetown, Barbados cruise includes visits to Soufrière, St. Lucia, a small town with tropical colonial architecture and natural attractions such as rainforests and a "drive-in" volcano. For another St. Lucia outing, bathe in mineral-rich mud in Sulphur Springs Park before savoring lunch at the ritzy Ladeira Resort.

In Grenada, go snorkeling among bright-hued tropical fish, and in Martinique, join a 4x4 island tour, which includes swimming in a cooling river and strolling black sand beaches.

Ilma departs on this seven-night cruise, sailing round-trip from Barbados, on March 14, 2025. Fares start from $5,800 per person.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

royal caribbean british isle cruise

All Regent Seven Seas Cruises ships ooze luxury and opulence. The all-inclusive line really is — think valet laundry service, unlimited shore excursions, seven superb dining venues and airfare among inclusions.

Regent's newest vessel, 746-passenger Seven Seas Grandeur, ups the line's incredibly high bar. Like its siblings, this extravagant ship drips in exquisite marble and crystal. Its multi-million-dollar 1,600-piece art collection features the first Fabergé egg to reside permanently at sea.

Your jaw will drop at the sleek redesign of some of Seven Seas Grandeur's suites and public venues. All-suite accommodations begin at 300 square feet and run up to the 4,443-square-foot Regent Suite . The latter touts a spa with a steam room and Jacuzzi, two original Picasso lithographs, handblown Lalique art vases, butler service and a private car and guide in each port.

Entertainment overhauls include new high-energy shows, like tango-driven Pasión. The Serene Spa & Wellness emphasizes mindful living, with reflexology and meditation among offerings.

The 10-night Champagne Colored Sands itinerary is round-trip Miami, offering easy access to the Caribbean from home airports. At Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, you can luxuriate for hours at beachfront resort Emotions by Hodelpa Playa Dorada, snorkel in a reef aquarium or dare to swim and snorkel with sharks. On St. Barth's, transfer to the exquisite Hotel Manapany, where celebs and other famous faces frequent; this outing includes an organic two-course lunch showcasing hotel-grown ingredients.

Seven Seas Grandeur departs on this 10-night cruise, sailing round-trip from Miami, on February 13, 2025. Fares start from $7,499 per person.

I went on a joint 60th birthday cruise for me and 12 of my friends. It was surprisingly affordable and so much fun.

  • I went on my first cruise with 12 friends from high school so we could celebrate our 60th birthdays.
  • We had a great time exploring the ship, sharing meals together, and partaking in onboard activities.
  • We skipped a lot of add-ons and the cruise was surprisingly affordable at under $800 a person.

Insider Today

I'd never cruised before — but when 12 of my friends from high school hatched a plan to celebrate our 60th birthdays on a four-night Royal Caribbean cruise , I immediately said yes.

Our group of 13 b ooked a four-night cruise on the Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas from Los Angeles to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico.

I didn't realize how fun, affordable, and meaningful it would be.

We had a blast on the ship

The Navigator of the Seas has a shopping promenade, a main dining room , a buffet, a café, specialty restaurants, an ice-skating rink, a showroom, a piano lounge, swimming pools, a gym, a spa, and so much more.

Given all that was offered, it's hard to imagine anyone not   having fun on the ship , but my friends and I had an especially fabulous time because we were together.

We ate, drank, laughed, swam, and talked, on repeat, for four days.

We danced until dawn — or at least until nearly midnight — in the nightclub. We belted every word to every song during '80s Night on the Promenade.

We cheered on our friends who competed in contests and pickleball tournaments, celebrated with a friend who won big at the casino, and so much more.

Each evening, we played cards in the Schooner Bar while a talented pianist and singer took requests all night.

We even received a visit from the ship's captain after we sent a note asking if he'd meet us during formal night. I'm not often tongue-tied, but I'd never met anyone who was responsible for steering a ship the size of a Las Vegas hotel before.

Related stories

I don't think I managed a single coherent sentence — but he was kind and gracious, and I now understand why captains are so often called "dashing" in Jane Austen novels.

Even better, the trip was surprisingly affordable

I thought all the fun we had would cost a lot, but I was wrong. Turns out a cruise can be quite affordable — as long as one is savvy.

We split double rooms with balconies and the trip cost about $793 per person, including taxes, fees, and port expenses.

I didn't feel any need (or even desire) to pay extra to eat at a specialty restaurant because all of the meals in the main dining room were so good.

We saved money on photo packages by using a tripod, asking other people on the ship to snap our pictures, and taking selfies. We didn't pay extra to book excursions and instead had fun exploring our two ports in small groups.

In Catalina, we walked along the promenade like we were teens again. In Ensenada, we went shopping, buying affordable souvenirs that will always remind us of our time together.

We're already planning our next cruise

Of course, the best part of the trip was our time together, which made it so meaningful. Our friendship, which was already special, strengthened, deepened, and grew.

I'm happy to say that we're already planning our next cruise five years from now.

We'll be 65, and I imagine we'll still be best friends, rocking our swimsuits, schmoozing with the captain, dancing at '80s Night, and once again, having the time of our lives.
