Best Plug for India in Apple World Travel Adapter Kit

Traveling to India later this week, busted out the apple world travel adapter kit and noticed that it lacks a plug for the largest country in the world. The Korean plug seems the closest to the plug adapter I bought, and I know that the EU plug works but isn't ideal, but I can't really find any specifics on what Apple is bundling with their chargers in India. If anybody could provide any insight on this so I don't have to bring more than one adapter, I'd appreciate it.

Just get an el cheapo travel adapter just about anywhere and plug your US-prong'ed charger into it. Any modern charger will run just fine on Indian power. If you're worried look at the fine print on the charger for its power specs. India runs 230V AC at 50Hz.

Web research indicates you may need a type C or D or M plug, depending on where in India you're going. Thought about asking your travel agent? "Now in Injia's sunny clime, where I used to spend my time, a-servin' of 'Er Majesty the Queen...."

Mac Chargers Apple Store India From the pictures, it looks like they sell chargers with Type D (India), Type C (Euro) and Type A (North America). From my quick search of Apple Store India, I was not able to find the actual Type D plug part that would fit your charger. Maybe an Apple reseller in India would have it. The Apple charger has a standard IEC C8 inlet that accepts a IEC C7 plug. A generic Type D to IEC C7 cordset should be easily available in India.

Much easier to buy the appropriate adapter or cord once you get to India. Type D is really the one you need and it's not common in the US; US sellers seem to assume that everyone is traveling to Europe or East Asia. The fact that all 220-240v countries didn't standardize on Type F a long time ago says something deep and unpleasant about international cooperation.

India's not standardizing on either Type F or Type G is the reason I quoted from Kipling's "Gunga Din" up-thread. Don't forget that pre-Partition India contained princely states (with maharajahs etc.) more or less allied with the British but pre-existing. Here 's a " World map showing the spread of plug types around the world ". As you knew, it looks like nationalism was a big factor.

For anybody that finds this thread in the future, the Korean plug in the travel kit works best in India. Has slightly thicker prongs that fit snug in the local outlets.

Apple is opening the iphone’s nfc chip to third-party apps with ios 18.1.

Apple has announced that it is opening up the iPhone’s NFC chip using the Secure Element to allow for third-party contactless payments, separate from Apple Pay and Apple Wallet. This feature will debut in a future release of iOS 18.1 and will be available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, the U.K., and the United States.

This change comes after Apple announced it would open the NFC chip to third-party apps in the European Union in accordance with the Digital Markets Act.

In a press release announcing the news today, Apple explains that the NFC chip can be used for things like payments, car keys, student IDs, hotel keys, and much more. The changes will begin rolling out with iOS 18.1 for developers:

Starting with iOS 18.1, developers will be able to offer NFC contactless transactions using the Secure Element from within their own apps on iPhone, separate from Apple Pay and Apple Wallet. Using the new NFC and SE (Secure Element) APIs, developers will be able to offer in-app contactless transactions for in-store payments, car keys, closed-loop transit, corporate badges, student IDs, home keys, hotel keys, merchant loyalty and rewards cards, and event tickets, with government IDs to be supported in the future.

Apple also says that users will be able to set a third-party app as their default contactless app via the Settings app on their iPhones.

Apple adds: “To incorporate this new solution in their iPhone apps, developers will need to enter into a commercial agreement with Apple, request the NFC and SE entitlement , and pay the associated fees.” As of right now, Apple hasn’t published any details about the fee structure.

Apple has published more details about its plans on its developer website , with instructions on how developers can contact Apple to express interest in the offering.
