Easily the worst car rental experience I have ever had. Completely shady third rate excuse for a company. When we arrived at the airport and called for pickup, they refused to send a car unless we paid an exorbitant amount for additional insurance or paid a $2500 deposit. Incidentally, the jeep suv we had reserved was unavailable and the only other car available was a compact Honda civic. Four times they ended the call to speak to their "boss" before agreeing to pick us up from the airport to discuss their extortion attempt in person at their rental office. The driver did not seem to know where to pick us up and he was reprimanded by airport security as he was in the wrong area. Security did take pictures of the vehicle as we were loading and told the driver he would be ticketed. No big deal, but unprofessional. We arrived at their office, which is a cheap one room affair in the back of a empty plaza. The whole setup looks like a couple of kids on cell phones set up an online "business". I provided proof of my insurance and binder. Mind you every time I provided another document they requested they had to call the "boss" on their cell phone who would then request something else. The "boss" did not speak English so was unwilling to speak to me. After 20 minutes of back and forth with my insurance company the "boss" decided they will not honour the booking or rent us a vehicle at all. They also blatantly lied to the third party booking site claiming we were a no show for the vehicle which complicated any attempt for a refund.

Zero STARS!!! Our flight landed at 10 am in Orlando. It was originally supposed to land in Sanford on July 15 2023, but our flight was cancelled so we had to rebook and it landed in Orlando instead. The car rental price was so good that we decided to keep it and we would get a ride to Sanford to pick up the car. Our Flight landed before 10 am, so they kept us on the plane for a bit, then we had to go through customs because we coming from Hamilton, Ontario, then get luggage and wait for Uber. We had a 45 minute ride to You Tourist in Sanford. WE arrived there at noon. The Clerk called his manager and said because we were late( they only held the car 1 hour) they said we could not have the car!!!!! even though we had paid for it already!!!! The clerk just stood there and did nothing, said there was nothing he could do!!!! we called Enterprise which was 5 minutes down the road and luckily they had a car for us. You tourist WOULD NOT EVEN GIVE US A RIDE THERE,WE HAD TO CALL ANOTHER UBER!!!! % STARS FOTR ENTERPRISE IN SANFORD, FLORIDA!!! Cynthia Bauder

Sometimes operates as You Tourist Auto Rental. I won't say that You Tourist Car Rental performed a "Bait and Switch" on me, but their ability to secure and lure unsuspecting customers through third-party booking companies to their business does seem like a Bait and Switch. Much of the details of their rental agreements are not displayed on various booking sites and if you knew what they were, you probably wouldn't patronize their business. The common thread in most of the complaints that I see about them, as is my own, is about their insurance requirements. If you, like myself, assumed that You Tourist Car Rental followed industry standards when you booked your reservation with them, you were sorrily mistaken and, like most people who have complained about them, would have discovered this upon arrival at their "hole in the wall" office outside of the Orlando International Airport. This tactic makes for a seemingly impossible situation not to avoid spending more money for unwanted insurance or taking a loss on funds already committed for your car rental with them. Like many others, I make it a point to get insured though reputable third-party insurance companies before I travel. However, contrary to industry standards, You Tourist Car Rental's terms of agreement states that you must use their insurance or an insurance company on their (photo-copied) list. And of course, unless your car is in the shop and being repaired by your insurance company, most often, the companies on their list don't extend insurance coverage for leisure travel situations. In addition, on their website, they state that they charge a $9.00-per-day "Administrative Fee" and secure a mandatory $2,500 deposit for the pleasure of using your own insurance - and thus, making the use of your insurance an unattractive or unworkable proposition for most people. In my own experience where the price of my rental, as advertised, was doubled, my options were to either pay more money for insurance that I already paid for under a third-party insurance company or rent a car with another company; either way, it was a losing proposition for me. Although, You Tourist Car Rental offered a me a refund, it was a faint gesture... I booked my car with them through Booking.com and therefore, when requesting a refund within 48 hours of pickup, they charge a fee equal to the 3-days of car rental and since, I was only in Orlando for 4 days, my refund would only be $22.00. It even wasn't worth the effort at this point... But this (my review) will be priceless! I see in a lot of their responses claiming they adhering to state law... But it's a half-truth... As apparent in all 50 states, drivers are required to have insurance to drive on public roads and in some situations, on private property. The onus is typically placed on the drivers - not the car rental company! And because of this, most reputable car rental companies have insurance waivers in their contracts for those who obtain their own insurance. As asserted by You Tourist Car Rental, major car rental companies like Hertz, Avis, Budget, Enterprise and the lot are breaking Florida State law; this is absolutely absurd! Yes, it's true: what You Tourist Car Rental is doing is legal and documented in their terms of service - even though all of the details that would deter a normal-thinking person isn't readily displayed to prospective customers... But their business model to lure you into their off-site office and leverage addition insurance is a borderline deceptive business tactic. Bottom Line: Save yourself some grief and STAY AWAY from You Turist Car Rental.

Are you planning a trip to Orlando and need to rent a car? Look no further! Here are 25 expert tips for renting a car in Orlando from a local.

I live and work here and travel the road around Orlando all the time. It can be confusing if you’re flying into Orlando International Airport and need to rent a car.

Whether you’re visiting Walt Disney World , heading out on a cruise, or looking for beach time, I can tell you from personal experience what it’s like driving in Orlando and what you need to know before renting a car in Orlando.

⏳ TL: DR – Use Discover Cars to find the best price on rental cars in Orlando.

Table of Contents

1 Why Rent a car in Orlando

If you’re asking yourself, should I rent a car in Orlando, my answer is it depends. I know, I know. But there is a variable to everything.

If you are just going to Walt Disney World with no plans to go off-property and are okay with using Disney’s excellent transportation system, then no, you don’t need a car.

If you plan to do anything off of Disney property or are visiting any of the other amazing theme parks in the area, I’d recommend renting a car in Orlando.

With a rental car, you can go wherever you want when you want without having to rely on public transportation or wait for rideshare services. You’ll have more freedom and can explore the many attractions in and around the city at your own pace.

Plus, renting a car is often much more affordable than other forms of transportation , especially if you’re traveling with a group or family. You can share the cost of the rental car, saving money while still having the convenience and freedom of having your own vehicle.

A rental car also allows you to take day trips outside of Orlando . With easy access to I-4 and the Florida Turnpike, you can easily get to nearby beaches and theme parks like Universal Studios , Disney World, and Sea World.

For those looking for a bit more adventure, renting a car allows you to explore the vast wilderness of Central Florida’s many state parks and natural areas. So if you’re looking for a convenient and budget-friendly way to explore Orlando and its surrounding areas, renting a car is an option worth considering.

2 Decide what kind of rental car you need

When renting a car in Orlando, you’ll need to decide what kind of vehicle is best for your trip. It’s important to consider the size of the car and its features when making your decision.

For example, if you’re traveling with a lot of luggage, you may want to opt for a larger car like an SUV or minivan. If you’re planning on traveling around the city, a compact car may be best for getting around easily.

You’ll also want to consider how many people will be riding in the car and if you need any extra features such as air conditioning or heated seats.

You should also take into account any special needs or requirements when selecting your rental car. For instance, if you’re traveling with small children or elderly people, you may want to opt for a car with extra legroom and space.

If you plan to explore outside of the City Beautiful, you may want a convertible for enjoying the Sunshine State .

No matter what kind of car you choose, make sure it fits your budget and has all the features that you need. Compare prices and read reviews to make sure you get the best deal.

3 Book your rental car in advance

Renting a car in Orlando can be a great way to explore the city and its surroundings, but it’s important to book your rental car in advance. This will ensure that you have the right type of car for your needs and that it’s available when you need it.

Next, compare prices between different rental companies . Don’t forget to factor in any add-ons like GPS or child seats.

Finally, make sure that you check the terms and conditions of each company carefully before booking. Many companies have age limits or require a valid driver’s license from all drivers.

Additionally, booking in advance ensures that a car is here waiting for you when you arrive. Orlando is the most popular tourist destination in the United States and that goes for car rentals as well.

Don’t assume you can just walk up to a car rental agency and they’ll enough stock.

4 What is the cheapest way to rent a car in Orlando?

If you’re looking for the cheapest way to rent a car in Orlando, there are a few things you can do.

First, book your rental car in advance . Many car rental companies offer discounts for booking weeks or months in advance. You can also check online for coupons and promo codes for additional discounts.

Second, consider using a car-sharing service instead of a traditional rental car. Car-sharing services are often less expensive than traditional rentals because they involve renting cars from private owners.

Third, consider getting a package deal when you rent your car. Look for deals that bundle the car rental with accommodations and/or activities. These packages often offer substantial discounts compared to booking all components separately.

Finally, don’t forget to check for membership discounts . If you belong to certain organizations, such as AAA, military, or college student groups, you may be eligible for discounted rates on your car rental.

Another great way to get the best deal on a car rental in Orlando is to compare prices using a booking engine like Discover Cars. With this tool, you can easily compare prices from multiple rental car companies in one place. Plus, it’s easy to use and can save you a lot of time and hassle. With a few clicks, you’ll be able to find the perfect rental car for your needs and at the lowest possible price.

5 Best Car rental in Orlando Airport

One of the most important factors when looking for the best car rental at Orlando airport is finding companies that offer cars that can be picked up from inside the terminal . This eliminates the hassle of having to take a shuttle from the terminal to an off-site location to pick up your car.

Discover Cars are one of the leading booking platforms for rental cars worldwide. 6 Is it cheaper to Uber or Rent a car in Orlando?

The question of whether it is cheaper to rent a car or take an Uber in Orlando depends on a variety of factors.

When considering the costs of renting a car, there are several factors to consider. The cost of renting a car will depend on the type of car you need, the length of your rental period, and the cost of insurance and fuel.

On the other hand, if you decide to take an Uber, the cost of your ride will depend on the distance traveled, the time of day, and the type of vehicle you choose. Additionally, there may be surge pricing during peak hours or holidays.

You can always plug in your destination and pickup (MCO Terminal A, for example) and get an idea of a the cost of a ride share. Keep in mind, that these fluctuate throughout the day.

To get the best value for money when traveling in Orlando, you should compare both options and decide which one works best for your budget and needs. Consider factors such as the total cost of the ride, convenience, comfort, and safety.

If you plan your trip and are flexible with your timing, you may find that renting a car is often more economical than taking an Uber . On the other hand, if you need to travel within a short timeframe or over a long distance, an Uber may be your best option.

7 What do I need to rent a car in Orlando?

When renting a car in Orlando, there are a few things that you need to have to rent a car.

These include a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a major credit card . Your driver’s license must be valid in the state of Florida, and it must have been issued by the same state you are currently residing in.

You will also need proof of insurance to show that you are financially responsible for any damages that may occur during your rental period.

Finally, a major credit card is necessary to complete the rental transaction. The car rental company will put a hold on your card for the amount of your rental fee.

8 Do you need the extra car rental insurance?

When renting a car in Orlando, it’s important to decide if you need additional insurance. While the rental car company offers an option for car insurance, it might not be necessary depending on your situation. Generally speaking, if you already have personal auto insurance or credit card coverage, you may not need to purchase the extra insurance.

To determine if you need additional coverage, check with your auto insurance company or credit card company about their rental car policies.

It’s also important to ask your rental car company if they include third-party liability coverage in their standard policy. If not, you may need to purchase the extra insurance offered by the rental car company to be adequately covered.

Before deciding if you need extra insurance or not, make sure you read and understand all the terms and conditions associated with each plan. That way, you can make an informed decision that is right for your particular needs and budget.

9 What it’s like driving in Orlando

Orlando and I-4 seem to always have construction going on, especially through the downtown area. While Orlando is not as busy as LA, for instance, it’s still important to leave yourself enough time to travel between point A and point B.

Additionally, especially during times like spring break and summer, Orlando is filled with tourists. While you may feel comfortable driving around in your hometown, there’s something about when you get to a new city and have lots to see, folks are not paying as close attention as they should.

Note that when you rent a car in Florida the state does have a hands-free requirement when it comes to cell phone use and you can get pulled over for using your phone while driving.

10 Orlando Construction Zones

If you’re planning on driving a rental car around Orlando, you’ll need to be aware of the various construction zones located throughout the city. The roads in Orlando are constantly under construction, with traffic at certain times of day being particularly busy due to construction-related delays.

It’s important to plan ahead when driving through construction zones, as they can lead to longer travel times and potential hazards. Keep an eye out for road workers, debris, and other potential dangers while driving. If you’re navigating a construction zone, pay attention to posted speed limits and reduce your speed as necessary.

When driving around Orlando, it’s also important to keep an eye out for temporary lane closures or detours. At times, certain roads will be closed or restricted due to ongoing construction projects. Always pay attention to signage when driving and try to give yourself extra time to get where you need to go.

Lastly, if you’re in a rental car and encounter any construction-related delays, contact the rental car company so that you don’t incur any additional fees for late returns. Taking a few extra precautions when driving through construction zones can help ensure that you have a safe and pleasant trip in Orlando!

11 Getting to Disney from Orlando International Airport

The most direct route is via the South Access Road, which will take approximately 15 minutes depending on traffic.

To access this road, follow the signs for “South Access/Greeneway” from the airport exit. You’ll then merge onto the Beachline Expressway/FL-528, take the exit for World Drive, and continue straight for 6 miles until you reach Disney Springs. Alternatively, you can take the Beeline Expressway/FL-528 eastbound, exit at Epcot Center Drive, and follow that road to Disney World property.

If you’d rather avoid toll roads, you can also use Central Florida Greeneway/FL-417 southbound to reach Disney property. This route will take approximately 25 minutes depending on traffic.

Once you’ve reached your destination, you can easily locate the parking lots for each Disney park using your rental car’s navigation system or smartphone app. And don’t forget—if you’re staying at a Disney resort hotel, you can use their complimentary shuttle services to reach the parks from your hotel.

12 Child Safety Laws in Florida

If you’re traveling to Orlando with children, it’s important to be aware of the child safety laws in Florida. The state has some rules and regulations in place that you need to be aware of before you hit the road.

For starters, all passengers must wear seatbelts at all times regardless of age or size. Children under five years old are required to be in a car seat, with babies and toddlers under three years old needing to be restrained in a rear-facing car seat. All other children between the ages of three and five must use an approved child safety seat.

Read Renting a car in Florida Tips

13 Renting Car Seats

Even though children up to age 5 need to be in a car seat, you may want your older child in a car seat or booster seat. You can rent these from the car rental as well.  Just make sure to reserve them at the time you book the car – they have a limited supply! Or, consider bringing one with you if you’re traveling with an infant or toddler.

Another option to consider is renting a car seat from a local company. It’s a great way to ensure that the car seat you’re using is up to safety standards and well-maintained. BabyQuip is a great way to rent not only car seats but other gear you may need for your trip to Orlando .

You can also save money since most car rental companies charge a daily fee for car seats. Finally, if you’re traveling with other families, you can split the cost of renting car seats and make it even more economical.

14 Parking Fees in Orlando

If you’re renting a car in Orlando, you’ll want to know all the parking fees you can expect to encounter. In general, parking fees in Orlando are very reasonable and often quite affordable, but there are some exceptions.

In downtown Orlando, most street parking is free or only costs a few dollars per hour. However, parking garages typically charge a flat rate of around $10-$15 per day. Some garages even offer discounts if you pre-pay online.

In residential areas, most private lots and driveways will require you to pay a fee before you can park there. These fees range from $2-$10 depending on the size of the lot and the length of time you’ll need to park there. Be sure to read any posted signs carefully so you don’t get caught out!

15 Parking Fees at Walt Disney World

At Disney World, parking is $25 per day for cars and motorcycles, with buses and recreational vehicles (RVs) being slightly more expensive. If you are staying at the Disney World hotels or visiting as a day guest, parking is free.

16 Parking Fees at Orlando Area Theme Parks

At Universal Orlando, parking for both regular cars and RVs costs $25 per day, although discounts are available for Florida residents.

17 Toll Roads in Orlando

Toll roads in Orlando include the Florida Turnpike, 417 Greeneway, the 528 Beachline Expressway, and the 408 East-West Expressway. You can expect to pay around $2 for each toll. However, if you are traveling from point A to point B along these toll roads, you will pay an additional fee for the distance traveled.

To pay the tolls on these roads, you will need an E-pass, which is an electronic payment system specifically for these toll roads. An E-pass can be purchased at various locations in Orlando or online. Once purchased, you will attach the E-pass to your rental car and it will be automatically charged for the tolls when you pass through them.

If you don’t have an E-pass, you can pay with toll by plate. During the pandemic, many of the toll roads began removing the staffed toll booths and coin collections.

It’s important to keep in mind that if you don’t pay your tolls, you could be subject to fines and fees. To avoid this, make sure you plan and know which roads require an E-pass before you set off on your journey.

18 Using E-Pass or Supass

If you are looking to save time and money while driving in Orlando, you may want to consider using an E-pass or Sunpass. These toll payment systems allow you to easily pay for tolls without having to stop at a toll booth.

Most car rental companies in Orlando offer the option of a visitor toll pass E-pass or Sunpass. When you book your car rental, check to see if it is included with the car. If not, many companies offer it as an optional add-on for a small fee. Depending on the car rental company, they may charge you an additional fee for adding on the E-pass or Sunpass.

Using an E-pass or Sunpass can save you time and money while driving in Orlando. Not only will it help you avoid the lines at toll booths, but you will also get discounted rates when using these toll payment systems. Be sure to ask your car rental company about their policies and fees associated with using E-pass or Sunpass when booking your rental car.

It is almost always cheaper to do this on your own rather than go through the car rental company

19 Using Uni-pass

The Uni-pass is an easy and convenient way to pay for toll roads in Orlando. This singular toll pass covers 19 states and counting. If you live in the northeast and already own a uni-pass, consider bringing it with you when you rent a car in Orlando.

The Uni-pass works in all express lanes, toll roads marked E-pass or Sunpass.

How to get a cheap rental car in Orlando

20 Rainy Weather in Orlando

If you’re visiting Orlando in the rainy season (May – October), it’s important to take extra precautions when driving. Rainy weather can quickly cause flooding, which can lead to dangerous driving conditions. Even if the roads appear safe, there could be hidden puddles that could cause you to lose control of the car. Additionally, slick roads can reduce the amount of traction your tires have, making it harder to stop or steer.

To ensure your safety on rainy days, make sure you always drive slower than usual and leave more distance between you and the cars around you. Pay close attention to the road and any potential obstacles that may arise. Additionally, avoid driving through deep-standing water as this can flood your engine and damage the car. If you get stuck in standing water, it’s best to call for help from a tow truck.

Finally, if you come across any flooded roads, do not attempt to cross them. It’s best to wait until the water recedes before driving through. By taking these precautions, you can stay safe while driving in rainy weather in Orlando.

21 Does Orlando Get Hurricanes?

Visiting  Orlando means that you need to be prepared for the possibility of hurricanes. Florida is a hurricane-prone state, so it’s important to know what to do in case of a storm. It’s also important to know what to expect when a hurricane does strike.

While Orlando does not sit on the coast, it is still vulnerable to the effects of hurricanes. The city has experienced several storms over the past several decades. Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Jeanne, and Irma all made landfall near the city in 2004, and Matthew and Irma both passed through Central Florida in 2016.

So what can you expect if a hurricane strikes the Orlando area? Generally speaking, hurricane winds can cause extensive damage, particularly to structures that are not built to withstand them. Winds can reach up to 150 mph or higher, with gusts of up to 200 mph. Flooding is also a major concern when it comes to hurricanes, as heavy rain can accumulate quickly and can cause significant flooding in low-lying areas. Additionally, tornadoes often accompany hurricanes and can cause further destruction.

It’s important to stay informed if a hurricane threatens the Orlando area. Local media will have the most up-to-date information about potential evacuations, road closures, and other important information. It’s also wise to prepare an emergency kit with items such as water, non-perishable food, flashlights, a battery-operated radio, first aid supplies, and other necessary items. Following these tips can help you stay safe during a hurricane.

How I saved hundreds on a car rental when combining it with theme park tickets

Tarah Chieffi

My mom loves a good deal. Her closet is full of clothes she didn't necessarily need (sorry, mom), but the sale prices were just too good to pass up. So when we asked her to come along with us on a recent family trip to Walt Disney World , I was on the hunt for any opportunity to save a few dollars and make her proud.

As you may already know, car rentals for vacations are not nearly as much of an afterthought as they once were. Depending on when and where you are traveling, availability can be sparse and prices can be much higher than you might expect.

Facing that exact situation on our recent trip to Orlando, I scoured the web to see if I could find a way to trim costs on our car rental. Here's how I saved us hundreds of dollars by bundling our theme park tickets and car rental using Undercover Tourist .

For more TPG news, deals and points and miles tips delivered each morning to your inbox, subscribe to our daily newsletter .

What is Undercover Tourist?

I already knew we could purchase discounted Disney World tickets through Undercover Tourist , which is an authorized theme park ticket resale site that often has tickets that can be slightly less than what you'd find by going directly through Disney, depending on the exact tickets you need.

you tourist car rental orlando

For example, a three-day Disney World base ticket for March 28, 2022, is $402.43 with tax through Undercover Tourist and $416.13 with tax on Disney World's website. That's a savings of $13.70 per person. It isn't much by itself, but what happens after you add those tickets to your cart is the real money-saving surprise.

Car rental deals through Undercover Tourist

When I proceeded to the checkout screen, I was presented with a series of deals I could add to my cart. Usually, I ignore these sorts of things, but getting up to 50% off of car rental rates caught my eye.

With three adults and three kids (and the necessary car seats and boosters), I wanted the convenience of a rental car instead of just relying on Disney transportation. Plus, the free Magical Express Bus that used to run from the airport to Disney has been retired, so I needed to find a new way to get my family and all of our gear to our hotel.

you tourist car rental orlando

I clicked through the deal that claimed it could save me "up to 50% off car rental rates" when bundled with my theme park tickets. Being the deal spotter that she is, my mom was already checking car rental discounts through Costco, but I figured I'd give this a shot so we could compare prices.

My mom used the Costco Travel portal to price a minivan for three nights through Budget Car Rental, with pick up and drop off at Orlando International Airport (MCO). The cost through Costco for our days was $465.15 including taxes and fees, which was less than what I found searching directly through Budget's site but obviously still a chunk of change.

When I searched the same parameters through Undercover Tourist, I was thrilled to find it came through with its savings promise. The total cost for a comparable minivan for three nights was $228.75, which was $236.40 less than what my mom had sourced through Costco Travel.

you tourist car rental orlando

There are a couple of downsides. You are required to prepay when you make your reservation, but Undercover Tourist offers free modification and cancellation prior to your pick-up date and time, so it was a low-risk, high-reward situation.

I can't speak for all rental companies, but when I called Budget, they were not able to add my Fastbreak rental rewards number to my reservation. That meant I had to wait in line at the rental counter instead of going directly to my car – a small luxury I've grown accustomed to. We waited about 20 minutes in line, but we're never in much of a hurry with three kids in tow so it wasn't a dealbreaker for us.

Related: How to never pay full price for a car rental

Bottom line

I often look for car rental deals when I travel, but I had never found a minivan when I needed one for only $76 per day ... until this trip.

The deep savings I received through Undercover Tourist are only available when you bundle your ticket and car rental together. The company has similar deals when you bundle your theme park tickets and a hotel reservation, which I plan to test in the future.

you tourist car rental orlando

Although I only saved a few dollars on our Disney World tickets themselves, the hundreds of dollars I saved on our car rental was money I was able to put toward Disney souvenirs and snacks.

Trust me, we came home with plenty of both, including the all-important Little Mermaid bubble wand that made my kids' day. It was a much better use of the money than simply spending more on our vehicle rental.

The Ultimate Guide to Car Rental in Orlando: Everything You Need to Know

Looking to hire a car if visiting Orlando, Florida? We hear some top tips to help you secure the best deal

Introduction

Did you know that Orlando, Florida is one of the busiest tourist destinations in the world, with over 75 million visitors each year?

With numerous things to do and see in the city, renting a car can be a convenient and cost-efficient way to explore what Orlando offers. In fact, according to a recent survey, more than half of all visitors to Orlando choose to rent a car during their stay. How cool is that?

Keep reading as this guide will provide you with everything you need to know to make the most of your car rental experience in Orlando—whether you’re headed to Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, or any other fantastic attractions in the area.

Why Rent a Car in Orlando?

You will find several reasons why renting a car in Orlando can be a great choice. Here are a few:

#1 Convenience

Having a rental car allows you to explore the city at your own pace without relying on public transportation or ride-sharing services. That means you can come and go as you please and won’t have to worry about sticking to a schedule.

#2 Cost-effective

Renting a car can be a cost-effective way to get around Orlando, FL, especially if you’re traveling with a group or visiting several attractions outside the city. On top of that, you can split the gas and rental costs with your fellow travelers, and you won’t have to worry about surge pricing or extra fees.

#3 Accessibility

Orlando does have public transportation options like buses and trains, but they may not be as convenient or accessible as a rental car. With this option, you can easily get to out-of-the-way destinations or explore the surrounding areas without navigating complicated schedules.

Are you planning on visiting Orlando during the summer months? Expect that you’ll likely encounter high temperatures and humidity. A rental car with air conditioning can provide a comfortable respite from the heat, especially if traveling with children or older adults.

If you’re traveling with luggage, souvenirs, or other bulky items, having a rental car can make storing everything safely and securely easier. You won’t have to worry about cramming everything into a small trunk or juggling multiple bags on a bus or train.

How to Find the Best Deals on Orlando Car Rentals

We understand that finding the best deals on Orlando car rentals can take some time and effort, but it’s well worth it to save money on your vacation. Here are some tips to help you get started:

#1 Compare prices online

Use travel websites to compare prices and find the best deals on car rentals in Orlando. These websites often offer discounted rates and package deals that can save you money.

#2 Book in advance

Book your rental car as far as possible to take advantage of lower rates. Prices can increase closer to your travel date, so booking early can help you secure a better deal.

#3 Consider off-airport locations

Renting an Orlando airport economy car rental from an off-airport location is often cheaper than renting from a rental car company at the airport. You may need to take a shuttle or taxi to the rental location, but the savings can be significant.

#4 Check for discounts

Many car rental companies offer discounts to members of certain organizations. Check if you qualify for any of these discounts before booking your rental.

#5 Look for promotions

Car rental companies often offer promotions and deals on their websites or through email newsletters. Watch for these promotions and take advantage of them when they’re available.

#6 Consider your rental period

Rental car rates can vary depending on the time of year and the day of the week. Consider renting for a shorter period or on a weekday instead of a weekend to save money.

Remember to read the fine print carefully when booking your rental car to ensure you understand all the terms and fees. Don’t be afraid to negotiate with the rental car company to see if they can offer you a better deal. With some research and effort, you can find the best deals on Orlando car rentals and save money on your vacation.

How To Save on a Disney World Vacation

Walt Disney World vacations can be expensive, but they don’t have to be.  A recent article from Fox 35 Orlando suggested that Disney trips lead to debt – but that isn’t exactly true. Here’s how the DVC Rental Store can help you save big on your trip, from your resort room to theme park tickets!

Discounted Resort Rooms

you tourist car rental orlando

You can save up to 65% off of your Deluxe Disney resort stay when booking through the DVC Rental Store instead of going directly through Disney.  For instance, a Preferred Deluxe Studio at Saratoga Springs costs $553.38 per night for July 27 through August 4, 2024 directly through Disney.  Through the DVC Rental Store, that same room for those same dates costs $280.50 per night for a savings of $272.88 per night or $2,183.04 for the 8-night stay!

For last-minute getaways, don’t forget to check the discounted confirmed reservations for great deals!

Flexible Payments

In addition to offering discounted rooms, the DVC Rental Store makes it easier for you to afford your trip with flexible payments through Bread Pay TM .  This allows you to finance your DVC rental and pay affordable monthly payments at competitive interest rates.  Applying is easy and does not impact your credit score.

Discounted Theme Park Tickets

you tourist car rental orlando

The DVC Rental Store can help you save on more than just resort stays!  You can also purchase discounted tickets through them and save up to 10%.  This includes one park per day tickets, park hopper tickets, and tickets for the water parks.  For example, 4 one park per day tickets for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids between the ages of 3 and 9) for use between July 14 and July 20, 2024 would cost $2,402.24 directly from Disney or $2,244.24 through the DVC Rental Store.  That’s a savings of $157.89!

Start booking your dream vacation to Disney World!  With the DVC Rental Store, you’ll both save on your accommodations and tickets, and stay at the best resorts on Disney World property.

The price comparison was a little more expensive but when we booked a car with 4 carseats, they didn't hesitate to book us and at a comparable price to an uberxl with one carseat. Great value and service. We will be using them going forward instead of uber."

How to avoid travel fees that are more common than you think

  • Updated: Jun. 17, 2024, 2:10 p.m. |

Taking a vacation is meant to be a time to relax and detach from your “normal” life — but we all know how expensive that can be.

Nowadays, it feels like traveling comes with more costs, whether it’s throwing hotel staff a few extra bucks for room service, paying Airbnb cleaning fees, or adding more drivers to your rental car agreement.

With that in mind, USA Today compiled a list of seven surprising hidden travel fees that are actually more common than you would think.

So before you finish booking your summer vacation, below are some hidden travel fees and ways to avoid them.

Cleaning fees for vacation rentals

Vacation rental companies such as Airbnb and Vrbo tack on cleaning fees so that hosts can prepare rooms in between stays. Airbnb’s cleaning fee is “a one-off charge for cleaning the space you stay in and is set by the host,” according to the vacation rental’s website .

The fee is added to the nightly rate when guests book a listing. Airbnb lists the cleaning fee separately in the price breakdown and the fee is not given back to the guests at the end of the trip.

Vrbo operates in the same fashion, but not all hosts charge a cleaning fee because they think it could make their listing too expensive, hospitable reported . It’s also worth noting if the Vrbo you want to book is listed as a luxury stay , because you could pay a higher cleaning fee.

Hotel amenity costs

If you choose to stay at a hotel or resort instead of a vacation rental, then be wary of paying extra to use the gym, pool and rooftop deck, among other amenities.

Hotels may charge an amenities fee or resort fee on top of your nightly rate whether you plan on using them or not, USA Today said . Hotels charge resort fees to lower base rates and draw in more customers, NerdWallet reported . Some hotels also claim these fees let them reduce the commissions paid to online travel agents.

Examples found by the personal finance company included a $48 resort fee for “a welcome basket of local snacks” at Hyatt’s Andaz Maui in Hawaii and a $50 fee at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara in Santa Barbara, California, that includes fitness classes, tennis racket, electric bike rentals and guided hiking tours. After analyzing more than 100 hotels around the U.S. with December 2023 check-in dates, NerdWallet found that the average average resort fee was $38.82 per night.

To avoid shelling out some extra cash for amenities you may not use, Forbes has several solutions such as booking a stay with hotel reward points and using rewards credit cards.

Foreign transaction fees

Speaking of credit cards, if your bank charges foreign transaction fees when you use a debit or credit card, then you could pay even more for your travels with every swipe. These fees, which can add up quickly, apply when using a card for meals, excursions, souvenirs and other expenses.

That is why it’s important to see if your bank charges foreign transaction fees. Banks with no debit card foreign transaction or ATM fees include Capital One 360, Charles Schwab Bank, Discover Bank, HSBC and Varo Bank, according to NerdWallet . Banks that do charge a fee include Bank of America, Chase, Citi, Citizens Bank, Fifth Third Bank, Navy Federal Credit Union, TD Bank and Wells Fargo.

NerdWallet said an easy way to avoid foreign transaction fees is to use a travel credit card. FinanceBuzz has a list of the “Top No Foreign Transaction Fee Credit Cards of June 2024″ to assist would-be travelers.

Roaming fees

Before heading on your next adventure, check your cellphone plan to see if it covers international service. If it doesn’t, you could be paying for roaming fees once your travels are all said and done.

Most U.S. mobile companies charge extra to roam on non-U.S. networks, especially for faster speeds. Some companies may even charge high fees for data, texting and talking while abroad, USA Today said .

Some ways to avoid roaming fees include buying a local SIM card, turning off data roaming or putting your phone on airplane mode, according to Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission .

You can also get an international cellphone plan. NerdWallet has a list of the “5 of the Best International Cell Phone Plans 2024,” which includes carriers AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Google Fi Wireless and Boost.

Costs for rental cars

When it comes to booking a rental car, you may want to take a closer look at the agreement before signing on the dotted line. In addition to rental insurance and daily rates, many car rental companies charge additional fees for renting a car at the airport or tack on a hidden fee for gas, USA Today said .

Some even charge extra for adding a driver or for drivers under 25. A way around these fees is to find a local rental agency, USA Today suggested . But if you find yourself in the position to rent from a major company, Money.com has a list of the “Best Car Rental Companies” for 2024. It is also worth knowing that AAA members get 20% off on car rentals, free additional drivers and car seats.

Parking fees

Before you pick up your rental car at your vacation destination, you have to leave your own car somewhere. Travelers should be aware of parking fees if they leave their vehicles at local airports or train stations.

Hotels can also charge high parking rates if you leave your car there for the day. Check your hotel’s website for parking fees. In addition, go to the airport website to find out how much it costs to park.

For example, parking at Boston Logan Airport can cost you up to $82 for one day after you initially park, with an additional $41 each day after. Be sure to hang onto your parking ticket because a lost ticket costs another $5 on top of your parking pay total.

Hidden cruise costs

Not only do you get to travel the world, but cruises are also great for having access to shops, restaurants and pools all on one deck. While most cruise lines include access to these activities, some require extra charges.

“If you must work during your cruise, some extras, including Wi-Fi, might be necessary rather than a bonus,” USA Today wrote . “When it comes to food and beverages, many cruises include water and coffee all day and fountain drinks with meals. However, alcoholic beverages usually cost more.”

Some cruise ships also offer premium dining on board at an additional cost, the outlet said. You could also pay more for spa treatments, fitness classes and room service, as well as “taxes, fees and port charges,” The Points Guy reported. Of course, there are also staff tips and paid guided excursions, so you might end up paying more for your worldly travels than you originally signed up for.

Therefore, it’s important to factor these added costs as part of your cruise expenses. Cruise Critic offers solutions to reducing or avoiding 10 common hidden cruise fees such as how to save on land excursions and cutting costs on food and drink options.
