2023 Travel Horoscope – Where Every Zodiac Sign Should Travel in 2023

It’s autumn 2022, and I’m just putting the finishing touches on your 2023 travel horoscopes.  Writing travel horoscopes is no small feat – I consulted the stars, I read your tea leaves, I even grabbed a few strangers’ hands in the hostel and offered them an unsolicited palm reading.  I take my annual travel astrologer duties very seriously!

Just kidding!

I won’t pretend that I don’t read my horoscope every now and then, but in order to write your 2023 travel horoscopes I turned to a much more reliable source than the constellations.  I asked eleven of my travel blogger friends to once again reflect on their own astrological profiles, and to recommend one of their favorite 2023 travel destinations for others who share their zodiac sign.

2023 Aries Travel Horoscope

Iceland is the Best Destination for Aries Travelers in 2023

Aries, born between the end of March and early April, are known for embracing the heated nature of their fire sign. Passionate and driven, yet loyal and caring, Aries make great leaders and friends. I should know, I am one!

As an Aries, I’m always looking for my next travel destination to wow me. For that, what could be more perfect than Iceland? The land of fire and ice is known for being almost as intense as me and my fellow Aries!

With so much to see in one small country, the best way to experience Iceland is on a road trip. I spent five days driving around Route 1 , the ring road that circles the island. Each day was an exciting new adventure, which was perfect to keep my Aries personality engaged.

All around the island are lava rocks and hot springs, evidence of Iceland’s volcanic past (and present). In southern Iceland, Aries travelers can walk up to roaring waterfalls like Seljelandfoss and Skogafoss. Further east, sprawling glaciers like Svinafellsjokull and the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon are spectacular to see. North Iceland is filled with majestic mountains that make way into moody highlands in the west. Plus, unpredictable weather – just like the moods of any Aries – makes the trip that much more of an adventure.

With all this and more to see, the raw, beautiful nature of Iceland makes it the perfect destination for Aries travelers in 2023.

Cappadocia, Turkey is the Best Destination for Taurus Travelers in 2023

Taurus’s are down to Earth, chilled and tenacious. Being bulls, they are also incredibly brave and ambitious, which makes Cappadocia the perfect destination for them to thrive in.

Cappadocia is the perfect travel destination for Taurus travelers in 2023; a balance between adventure and relaxation.

For the adventurous side of a Taurus, they will revel in the endless hiking trails and ATV tracks that they can explore. Ride around the dirt roads of Red and Rose Valley, or hike through Pigeon Valley and Love Valley to reach Uchisar Castle.  They will also enjoy a sunrise hot air balloon ride, which tests their adventure levels to the limit as they soar through the sky as the sun comes up.

Taurus’s are often good with money, and they won’t splurge on something unless it’s going to be worth it. The hot air balloon rides are definitely worth it. Not only for the incredible views, but because you are one of hundreds of hot air balloons to take to the skies at once, which is really a magical experience.

Taurus’s also love stability, relaxation, and cosiness, so a Turkish Hammam is right up their street. The hammams are also known as Turkish Baths, which were historically inspired by Roman Baths but have a more spiritual significance to Turkish people.  Bathing is a ritual in Islam, as you need to clean your head, hands, and feet before you pray. So hammams are very popular in Turkey, even in the desert region of Cappadocia. There is nothing more relaxing than soaking in a hot spring pool, surrounded by stunning mosaics and a peaceful atmosphere for a Taurus.

Best of all, Cappadocia is an affordable destination. As we know Taurus’s don’t like to spend money needlessly, and with the Lira continuously dropping, Cappadocia is becoming a more and more affordable place to visit.  Just another reason why it’s the best travel destination for Taurus in 2023!

2023 Gemini Travel Horoscope

Sri Lanka is the Best Destination for Gemini Travelers in 2023

I am a Gemini, which means I am always having trouble deciding, but at the same time I also have a very curious soul. I am very flexible when it comes to traveling but also impulsive, and I react straight away when something happens. Some say I might have a changing temperament based on how I feel. I can be moody one day and the life of the party the other.

A great destination that I loved visiting, which matches my astrological sign, was the highlands of Sri Lanka . This beautiful land is located in the heart of Sri Lanka and has its own unique climate. Some days it may be hot and sunny, whilst the others it can rain cats and dogs. No wonder it is often referred to as Little England.

Is the highlands of Sri Lanka where you will find the famous tea plantations that produce tea which is exported all over the world. If you have the curiosity to take a walk around the plantations, away from the visitors centre, you will discovered terraced crops offering gorgeous views. You can even take a basket and join in the ladies picking the best tea leaves, which will be later dried and packed in pretty packages.

Most people who visit the Highlands go to Ella or Nuwara Eliya. Both cities are great bases for Gemini travelers exploring the area for a few days in 2023. In Ella you can go hiking, whilst in Nuwara Eliya you can discover the English heritage of the country. To travel between them, don’t miss taking the famous blue train.

Massachusetts, USA is the Best Destination for Cancer Travelers in 2023

Cancers are the known homebodies of the astrological signs, and sometimes get a reputation for not enjoying travel because it takes them out of their comfort zone. But Cancers can be just as invigorated and inspired by new places as the other signs, as long as they feel a sense of familiarity.

Uzbekistan is the Best Destination for Leo Travelers in 2023

A full moon in Sagittarius lights up the sky on Saturday, June 3, which will be energizing—and potentially exhausting. Though Sagittarius is a sign related to international travel, journeys, meeting and connecting with that which is foreign, it’s not the best day for being in transit. If you are traveling, though, be open to experiences that offer shifts in your perspective that first week of June.

The Department reminds U.S. citizens of the continued need for caution and increased personal security awareness as security incidents often take place without warning. The security environment remains complex and can change quickly depending on the political situation and recent events. U.S. citizens should heed the  Travel Advisory  for Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. The U.S. Embassy continues to closely monitor the dynamic security situation in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. There are active military operations and active rocket and mortar fire in Gaza and the Gaza periphery.  Terrorist groups, lone-actor terrorists and other violent extremists continue plotting possible attacks in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. Terrorists and violent extremists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, and local government facilities. Violence can occur in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza without warning. If you require emergency assistance while in Israel, the West Bank or Gaza, contact the  U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem  by email ( [email protected] for those in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza or [email protected] for those in Israel outside of Jerusaleml).

Individuals seeking to depart Gaza: As of May 7, the Israel Defense Forces control the Gaza side of the Rafah Crossing. Since that day, the Rafah Crossing between Egypt and Gaza has remained closed. As soon as the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem receives information regarding new exit procedures from Gaza to Egypt, including when crossings resume, we will communicate this to the public immediately.

This remains a complex situation with serious implications for the safety and security of U.S. citizens. U.S. citizens in Gaza in need of assistance should contact [email protected] . U.S. citizens in Gaza are reminded that the U.S. government is unable to provide routine or emergency consular services to U.S. citizens in Gaza as U.S. government employees are prohibited from traveling there.

The U.S. government does not control who is permitted to depart Gaza or enter Egypt. Individuals must assess their own safety and risks in attempting to cross the border. Individuals permitted to enter Egypt will likely receive a 72-hour Egyptian visa; all those who cross should have a plan for onward travel from Egypt in this timeframe. U.S. citizens, LPRs and their immediate family members who successfully enter Egypt and require further consular assistance should contact the  U.S. Embassy in Cairo  via the  U.S. Citizens Services Navigator .  Individuals may apply for a U.S. visa at any U.S. Embassy or Consulate; U.S. immigration laws and regulations will apply.

18 KU Students Receive Gilman Scholarship to Travel Abroad

Representing diverse academic fields across campus, 18 University of Kansas undergraduate students have received the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study or intern abroad.

Funded through the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the highly competitive award provides up to $5,000 to apply toward the program cost to study or intern abroad. Students who additionally were awarded the Gilman Critical Need Language Award receive up to $8,000.

The most recent cohort of Gilman Scholars are from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Schools of Architecture & Design, Business, Education & Human Sciences and Engineering. The students have or will travel to 15 countries spanning throughout Europe and Asia.

Since the program’s inception in 2001, the State Department has awarded more than 38,000 Gilman scholarships to American students. During the 2022-2023 academic year, more than 3,600 Gilman scholarships were awarded.

The scholarship contributes to the State Department’s diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility efforts. All Gilman Scholars are Pell Grant recipients, while 70% identify as racial or ethnic minorities, 60% are from rural areas or small towns, and more than half are first generation college students.

“Ensuring all students have access to global and intercultural learning through study abroad is a priority for the KU Study Abroad & Global Engagement unit,” SAGE Director Angela Perryman said. “We are very excited to have such a strong cohort of Gilman Scholarship recipients at KU this year.”

The recent award recipients from KU include the following students:

• Dustin Gallegly,  a philosophy and religious studies major from Garden Grove, California, will travel to India for Buddhist studies this fall.
• Ashley Hernandez , a human biology major from Liberal, is participating in the Hospital Shadowing in Spain program this summer.
• Kristen Hine s, a sociology major from Topeka, is studying at the University of Oslo International Summer School in Norway this summer.
• Nicholas Hwang , an international business and finance major from Manhattan, will study at National Taiwan University in Taiwan this academic year.
• Leslie Koffi , an architecture major from Denver, will participate in the Architecture in Asia program in Singapore and South Korea this winter.
• Lorraine McCann , an interior architecture and design major from Kansas City, Missouri, participated in the Architecture in Southern Europe and Morocco program in Spain, Morocco and Portugal this summer.
• Juan Miranda , a microbiology major from Augusta, is participating in the Hospital Shadowing in Spain program this summer.
• Kaitlyn Moore , a secondary English education major from Lyndon, is studying at J.F. Oberlin University in Japan this summer.

Understanding the Transformative Nature of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI), with its transformative potential, is poised to revolutionize the public health landscape and our daily work in academic public health. Faculty, staff and students attended a workshop about this transformative tool led by Dr. Madhu Mazumdar, Director of the Institute for Healthcare Delivery Science at the Mount Sinai Health System and Professor of Biostatistics at the Department of Population Health Science and Policy Center of Biostatistics. The workshop delved into AI’s role in evolving crucial projects, from identifying patients with diabetic retinopathy in underserved areas in rural India, to assisting faculty in composing emails that maintain precision and kindness even when time is limited.

Over 30 attendees had the opportunity to collaborate on prompt engineering for various projects, such as creating a course syllabus on sexually transmitted infections, identifying errors in dense text blocks, and proposing a research thesis. Following the activity, attendees engaged in robust conversation about the perceived benefits and drawbacks of the various AI tools. Their shared experiences brought forth curiosity, laughter and provocative comments. One attendee disclosed working with a small team abroad and utilizing AI to research a scarcely known topic. To her surprise, Chat GPT generated an article written by herself, word for word! Another attendee voiced concerns about residents potentially utilizing Gemini to generate patient evaluations by imputing displayed symptoms, and wondered whether this practice is ethical.

Skepticism aside, AI’s prevalence shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. As highlighted by Dr. Mazumdar, “We are the humans and will ultimately be held as the responsible party.” So as public health professionals, we must ask ourselves…How do I use AI in my work? What is the potential for AI to help improve public health practice?

Gemini Investing is a web and mobile cryptocurrency exchange offering 80+ digital cryptocurrencies along with digital wallet storage and access to various advanced charting tools. Gemini prides itself on its "security-first" mentality and fiduciary status. 

Its user-friendly platforms allow new investors to trade assets, set recurring buys, and earn staking rewards on popular cryptocurrencies . But Gemini's ActiveTrader is great for experienced investors looking for features like faster order execution, 100+ crypto trading pairs, and dual market tracking.

Like many of the best cryptocurrency exchanges , Gemini now offers an NFT trading platform by partnering with Nifty Gateway. Nifty Gateway is a digital marketplace for trading, storing, and displaying NFTs.

A downside of Gemini's trading platform is its relatively high trading fees and complex fee structure. There's also a lack of customer support (no email, live chat, or phone number).

Gemini's web and mobile exchange offer straightforward trading and portfolio-building features suitable for active traders. Users get access to basic trading and managing features like setting up recurring buys, access to in-depth crypto research, account snapshots, waitlists, and Gemini's extensive library of educational content. 

The exchange offers many of the most popular cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, ether, litecoin, CRP, solana, and cosmos. It also offers multiple stablecoins like Tether and its native coin, Gemini Dollar (GUSD). Gemini does not offer Cardano. 

The free mobile app offers similar features, with the ability to transition between Basic and Advanced trading modes. You can access over 300 trading pairs, set price alerts, and various order type options. You also have the option to connect a Gemini Mastercard and earn cash back rewards in the form of bitcoin, ether, and other cryptos when you spend on dining, groceries, and other everyday expenses. 

Most of Gemini's assets are held in an offline, cold storage system, with only a portion of each investor's holding held in Gemini's Hot Wallet. Additionally, all Gemini accounts are required to implement two-factor authentications.

ActiveTrader

ActiveTrader is Gemini's advanced investment platform for sophisticated traders. It allows them to execute high-speed trades, use trading pair selectors, access the platform's deep order book, and use multiple API options. API options include FIX, WebSockets, and public and private REST APIs. 

The Duel Market feature allows you to compare multiple markets' activity in real time, allowing you to execute trades and hedge positions strategically. You can also access crypto-to-crypto trading options. 

Gemini ActiveTrader does offer crypto derivatives, but it's not available for U.S. traders. 

Gemini offers staking for two crypto assets: polygon (3.58% APR) and ether (3.57% APR). Non-U.S. investors can also stake in Solana (5.98% APR). 

Regular staking on Gemini requires no minimum account balance, rewards are split across staking participants to a single address, and positions can't be tracked on-chain. Staking Pro is a more advanced staking service with greater on-chain transparency, but it's unavailable to U.S. investors. 

Gemini Institutional

Gemini Institutional is designed for private clients, institutional investors, fintechs, and businesses to access advanced charting features and multiple order types. Institutional accounts can set administrators, managers, auditors, trustees, and more. 

Client portfolios can be easily tracked and managed by investment managers. You can ensure your digital assets are safe with regulated cold storage through Gemini Custody. This feature uses multi-signature technology, biometrics, and role-based governance protocols to protect cryptocurrencies and other investable digital assets. 

Private clients and institutional investors can access Gemini eOTC, an electronic over-the-counter trading platform for real-time visibility, price tracking, order status, and trade execution details. 

Gemini Fees

Gemini fees on its regular exchange and mobile platforms are high compared to competitor exchanges. Web orders vary by web order amount and will cost at least $0.99 per trade, but the fee can go as high as 1.49% of the web order value. Beginners may find Gemini's exchange and mobile fee structures difficult to understand. 

ActiveTrader has lower trading fees compared to Gemini's exchange and mobile platforms. The platform operates on a maker/taker fee structure based on your 30-day gross trading volume and is calculated daily. The higher your trading volume, the less you'll pay in fees. Maker fees range from 0.00% to 0.20%. Taker fees range from 0.03% to 0.40%. Mobile traders are also charged an additional 0.5% convenience fees on all trades. 

Staking services charge a 15% fee.

The Better Business Bureau has given Gemini Trust Company LLC an F rating. The BBB's ratings range from A+ to F, and it says it has given Gemini the "F" status due to various unresolved customer complaints. The bureau considers factors like time in business, the type of business, licensing and government actions, advertising issues, and more. 

On January 12, 2023, The  SEC charged Genesis Global Capital LLC and Gemini Trust Company LLC with offering and selling unregistered securities to users through its Gemini Earn lending program. According to the complaint, investors were unable to withdraw crypto from their accounts due to an alleged lack of liquidity. Genesis filed for bankruptcy in 2023 and agreed to pay a $21 million penalty to settle charges. 

On February 28, 2024, Gemini settled with the New York Department of Financial Services and agreed to return $1.1 billion to Earn program customers in addition to paying a $37 million penalty for compliance failures.

Gemini and Robinhood Investing are both beginner-friendly crypto-trading platforms for active traders with cold wallet storage. The platforms offer drastically different fee structures, investment options, accounts, and features. 

Robinhood is better for investors looking to trade a handful of cryptocurrencies alongside traditional securities like stocks and ETFs. Robinhood has a no-commission brokerage model with relatively low fees, 24/7 customer support, and limited advanced charting features. It's the stronger platform for beginners. 

Intermediate and advanced crypto traders may prefer Gemini despite the exchange's high and complex fees. Compared to Robinhood, Gemini offers a wide selection of advanced charting features through its AdvancedTrader platform, NFT platform, and crypto trading pairs.
