About The Midnight: There is a Japanese term: Mono no aware. It means basically, the sad beauty of seeing time pass – the aching awareness of impermanence. These are the days that we will return to one day in the future only in memories.

The Midnight consists of Tyler Lyle (a songwriter from the Deep South) and Tim McEwan (a producer from Denmark).

List of The Midnight live performances

Since playing their first live show in 2017 , The Midnight have played over 175 shows spanning five tours, 13 festivals, and various other one-off shows. As of 2023, they have performed in North America, Europe, and Australia. The band will make their Asian debut in 2024 with four shows planned for India.

The Midnight played their first two live shows in 2017 in the cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles. During the first two years of live performances, the touring lineup consisted of Tim McEwan , Tyler Lyle , and a saxophone player, who was most often Jesse Molloy . The Midnight did a short three show tour in the spring of 2018 before embarking on their first full tour in the fall of the same year , playing 18 shows across North America. The Spring 2019 Tour featured the band's first shows outside of North America with performances in Europe and Australia.

With a desire to increase the production value and make a more authentic live show, Lelia Broussard was added to the touring lineup as a guitar and bass player beginning with the Fall 2019 Tour . The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted The Midnight's touring plans for 2020, and the band instead performed an online-only show that fall, The Midnight Online . The show was notable for the addition of Royce Whittaker as a guitar player to the touring lineup, giving The Midnight a five-piece live band which they have continued to use ever since. The Midnight returned to touring with the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 Tour , which visited North America, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The Change Your Heart Tour began in the fall of 2022 and saw the band make a full return to Europe for the first time since 2019. The Fall 2023 North American Tour was The Midnight's most recent tour and featured 25 shows performed over six weeks, the longest individual run of shows for the band to date. In 2024, The Midnight will tour India for the first time and will also tour Australia for the first time since 2019. This will be followed by the Summer 2024 EU/UK Tour which will be the band's first tour to take place exclusively in Europe.

Outside of tours, The Midnight have also performed at many prominent music festivals including Outside Lands, Austin City Limits, and Bonnaroo. Other live performances include several online benefit shows and DJ sets. Most of the DJ set shows were done prior to the start of touring in 2018, but Tyler Lyle did a four show DJ set tour as The Midnight in December 2022, which featured new remixes of several The Midnight songs that have yet to be heard elsewhere.

Since the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 Tour , the band's touring lineup is composed of Tim McEwan on synths and percussion, Tyler Lyle on guitar and vocals, Lelia Broussard on guitar and vocals, Royce Whittaker on guitar and backing vocals, and Justin Klunk on saxophone. McEwan will depart the touring lineup following the 2024 tours in India and Australia. [1]

Many of The Midnight's tours have not been given distinct names and in some cases had shows that were not explicitly implied to be part of a distinct tour. The shows on these tours have been grouped together and given general names based on when they occurred for the sake of convenience and readability. In most cases, the format of the show remained unchanged across the span of the dates stated.

Individual shows and short tours

In addition to the shows listed below, The Midnight were also scheduled to perform a headlining show in Mexico City, MX in 2020, which was canceled.

In addition to the festivals listed below, The Midnight were also scheduled to play at the Shaky Knees Festival in 2020 and Music Midtown in 2022, which were both canceled.

Online shows

The following shows were online only. In addition to these shows, The Midnight's show in Los Angeles on November 27, 2021, was streamed online on Veeps, and their first show at Austin City Limits on October 8, 2022, was streamed on Hulu.

The Midnight are an American synthwave duo based out of Los Angeles, California, composed of producer Tim McEwan and vocalist/guitarist Tyler Lyle. The band formed after McEwan and Lyle met during an arranged co-writing session in the spring of 2012.

With several appearances on Billboard charts, The Midnight have been one of the most commercially successful synthwave acts. Their music has also appeared in various media forms, including video games, podcasts, and TV. Since the release of Monsters, they have been signed with Counter Records, an imprint of Ninja Tune.

We’re excited to present American synthwave band The Midnight, making their return to Australia in February/March 2024 , setting stages on fire with headline performances in Sydney , Brisbane , and Melbourne .

Due to overwhelming demand, the Brisbane show on The Midnight’s highly anticipated Australian tour has just been UPGRADED! The Brisbane date will now take place at The Tivoli on Friday 01 March, 2024.

The party gets bigger so more of you can join in on this electrifying live tour! Current ticket-holders for Brisbane do not need to take any action, existing tickets are valid for the newly upgraded venue. 

From their synth-heavy beginnings to arena rock chords and infectious pop hooks, The Midnight’s musical journey is one fuelled by insatiable curiosity. The duo lives at the intersection of varying paths, driven by the friction that fires when Southern-born singer-songwriter Tyler Lyle’s all-American dreamer tales meld with Danish-bred drummer and producer Tim McEwan’s cinematic soundscapes. Together, they form something deeper than house, vibier than pop, and altogether more exciting than the sum of its parts.

Created during the isolation of the COVID quarantine, their most recent release Heroes tackled the issue of loneliness by inviting the whole world to dance under one roof, celebrating shared human connection. Infused with slivers of Springsteen, The Police, AC/DC and an electrifying arena rock spirit, Heroes weaves together a fusion of sexy-but-sensitive sing-alongs made to be belted by a room full of music lovers.

With the new album, the duo has hit new heights on stage, moving on from club rooms to selling out iconic venues such as London’s Brixton Academy. They have also expanded their live performance by welcoming Lelia Broussard on bass, Royce Whittaker on guitar, and Justin Klunk on saxophone and synth.
