Slipknot ‘Working Quickly’ to Determine Next Step After Metallica Withdraw From Tour

Metallica 's withdrawal from their fall touring came as a surprise to many, including their upcoming tourmates Slipknot who had a trek planned with the band in New Zealand and Australia next month. Slipknot have now issued a statement as they try to figure out their next move concerning the shows.

Metallica bowed out of the run on Friday (Sept. 27), revealing that frontman James Hetfield 's struggles with sobriety had necessitated a return to rehab. "We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit. We’ll let you know as soon as we can," stated the group, adding, "We appreciate your understanding and support for James and, as always, thank you for being a part of our Metallica family."

While Metallica have offered refunds for the dates and expressed their intent to return to Australia and New Zealand "as soon as we can," Slipknot have checked in with a statement letting their fans know that they are "working quickly" to determine the next step.

To our Australian and New Zealand fans and family, We only recently heard the news about the tour being postponed, and we are working as quickly as possible to determine next steps. We will let everyone know as soon as we are able. Of course, our thoughts are with James and Metallica. We wish them nothing but the best. We hope to see you all very soon. -Slipknot

Slipknot will next play on Oct. 11 at the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, with the tour down under scheduled to take place Oct. 17-31. Stay tuned to see if Slipknot are able to salvage the dates for their fans or if they will follow Metallica's lead and try to reschedule for a later date.

Slipknot have plenty of touring remaining for the year, with dates in South America on the horizon. There will also be European tour dates in early 2020. Stay up to date with all their tour ticketing  here .

Tickets go on general sale this Thursday (November 10) at 10am GMT here . There is a  pre-sale open now for Barclaycard card holders.

Metallica will return to Donington after more than a decade away. The band said in a statement: “We are next-level honoured to once again come back and partake in the Download shenanigans on the hallowed grounds of Castle Donington, which has an unparalleled place in rock history. On top of that, to be able to share our double show format with two completely unique sets with no repeat songs for the first time ever in the UK is way fuckin’ cool. Bring it on!!”

Bring Me The Horizon will top the bill at Download for the first time after years of working their way up the line-up since their debut performance there in 2006. Singer Oli Sykes said: “Download Festival was one of the first festivals I ever attended as a punter. It was our first amazing festival experience to play as a band, and now the fact that we are headlining such a prestigious event blows my mind. We can’t wait to bring a whole new sound and show for the Download audience.”

Bring Me The Horizon

Meanwhile, Slipknot will play their fifth headline slot at the festival. Turntablist Sid Wilson said: “Download Festival! So many great memories, one of the most amazing crowds to play in front of, always an honour to share the bill with so many amazing bands, and of course, I’ll never miss the opportunity to play my homeland.”

Download Festival’s Andy Copping added: “This year marks a huge milestone for Download, celebrating the incredible 20 years of the festival is no small feat. We really wanted to up the ante for this special anniversary, adding an extra day for the fans to experience the unforgettable lineup, that once again brings together unparalleled talent from the rock music world back to Donington Park!”

The festival’s 2022 edition featured headline sets from Kiss ,  Biffy Clyro  and  Iron Maiden . Due to the  COVID pandemic it was the first full-scale Download in three years, with 2020 seeing  a smaller-scale ‘pilot’ event .

Speaking to NME earlier this year ,  Copping  said that the 2023 headliners had already been booked . “It’s the first time I’ve booked all the headliners in advance…”

He added: “We’re way, way down the line – because next year is essentially our 20th year so we wanted to do something a little bit special. All I can say is that it will be very, very exciting.”

Celebrating 25 Years of ‘Slipknot’ with special guests Knocked Loose, Orbit Culture, and Vended

Knotfest artist presale tickets available today at 12pm et here, general public on sale friday, may 3 at 10 am local here.

Heavy titans and cultural phenomenon SLIPKNOT are pleased to announce the North American portion of their Here Comes The Pain Tour . This year the nine are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their seminal debut album, Slipknot , which catapulted the band back in 1999.

In addition to recently announced dates across the globe, the Here Comes The Pain Tour , produced by Live Nation, includes arena plays nationwide this Summer. Highlights include New York City’s Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles’ Intuit Dome, Austin’s Moody Center and more with direct support from Kentucky’s young and vibrant hardcore/metal forerunners, Knocked Loose . Orbit Culture and Vended are confirmed as support on select dates.

Knotfest.com’s artist presale tickets are available  today at 12PM ET here . Tickets will be available to the general public on Friday, May 3 at 10 AM Local here . See below for a full list of dates including Slipknot’s homecoming performance at Knotfest Iowa in which the band will play a unique set drawing heavily from their 1999 debut, celebrating 25 years of the self-titled album along with their fans.

There actually was a time when Slipknot and the maggots (the loving name for their fans) did not completely rule the world. 25 years ago, the Des Moines band were just some guys trying to get their new LP noticed– a record that would start their metamorphosis into the most crucial band of the 21st century. That record would change rock as we know it, measuring success with a yardstick bigger than music, one for the influence on youth culture writ large. But these faceless demons from middle America would not only capture the hearts of the youth, they would help guide their tastes, and challenge them and their kin towards a new future.

Released on June 29th, 1999, Slipknot’s self-titled debut was a smash hit with critics and an instant classic with fans. It was, and is, a molotov cocktail signaling a revolution– embracing a creative direction that eschewed metal traditions in favor of fresh ideas. While the jaw-clenching riffs coupled with Ross Robinson’s venomous production were crucial to the album’s success, it was the care and attention to detail in the songcraft that moved the needle from “great” to “benchmark.” Not too shabby for a bunch of guys that only hoped to be heard.

“We loved what we did with the first record but we didn’t even know if there was gonna be anything after that,” recalls guitarist Jim Root . “We just wanted people to hear it. Selling out of records and shows, having successful tours– those are goals for any band. But the dream scenario in some ways, came true for us.”

In the years following, Slipknot’s popularity nipped at the heels of elder statesmen and even the band’s heroes, eventually navigating this brave new world with unending drive, fresh ideas and a bloodlust for odometer clicks. Tens of billions of streams and tens of millions of subscribers and followers later, the accolades tell the story: 64 award nominations and 27 wins including a Grammy for “Before I Forget“ from Vol. 3 .  A seemingly endless number of tour dates. Headlining slots at some of the biggest festivals in the world such as Download, Rock In Rio, Hellfest, Wacken and many more. Not to mention RIAA certifications by the truckload– 14 platinum certifications and 40 gold across more than 30 million in record and video sales.

In addition, Slipknot positioned themselves for success with the creation of their own festival Knotfest in 2012, a traveling, multi-stage and experiential event that has appeared 28 times across several countries and locations. The festival has since spun off into a successful entertainment media hub – Knotfest.com , which became a juggernaut of its own making, giving a platform to young freethinkers and like-minded artists.

All of Slipknot’s achievements have helped them claim their rightful seat as pioneers and thought leaders, establishing them as a generational talent– loved by parents AND their children alike. And of course with all those incredible live performances, all that influence, and all that history of playing all those incredible SONGS, Slipknot has only attracted the most dedicated of fans, reaching all the way back to that fateful self-titled effort.

Slipknot is approaching this 25th anniversary by making the conscious decision to connect to fans as closely as possible, in a similar way to how they encountered Slipknot all those years ago. “Every time I’ve walked on stage, it’s never been about how many people have been there because my culture, the maggots, always show up,” says founding member Shawn “clown” Crahan with a smile.

“But as we’ve grown as a band, we have had fewer and fewer of those intimate, personal moments, trading them for massive ones. So we’re gonna make it more personal on the anniversary, but how remains to be seen. Just get ready to have your face kicked in. Because we just do what we do, spread that maggot culture – that disease. And you’ve been infected.”

Slipknot unveiled on Tuesday that they are heading on tour this summer for their Here Comes the Pain Tour to mark the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut album. The news comes on the heels of the band’s announcement yesterday, April 29, that they will return to their hometown of Des Moines, Iowa to headline Knotfest 2024 .

The tour will see the group stop in North American cities such as Columbus, Baltimore, New York, Austin, Los Angeles, and Austin. They then head overseas for a slate of dates in Europe and the U.K. The group will bring Knocked Loose on the road for the entirety of the tour. Orbit Culture and Vended will join for select dates.

“Just get ready to have your face kicked in. Because we just do what we do, spread that maggot culture – that disease,” Crahan added. “And you’ve been infected.”

Recent tour reviews

Electrifying as ever with their incredible performance and stage presence, the members of Metallica delivered the goods and more last night with a nice cross section of numbers running the gamut of their colossal catalog! There were occasional pauses to interact and converse with the crowd, but the band segued their way into one song after another the majority of the evening. The night opened up with an intro of the Ecstasy of Gold followed by the title cut off of the band's latest effort Hard Wired to Self Destruct. James Hetfield's vocals were as strong as ever from beginning to end. Kirk Hammett engaged in one brain crushing guitar solo after another, Lars Ulrich brought a great and almost nonstop back beat with his furious drumming and Rob Trujillo provided excellent bass work including a great treatment of the solo the late Cliff Burton was well known for on Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth). During the aforementioned bass solo video footage of Burton performing onstage accented the music perfectly. Other exceptional highlights included Kirk's stellar guitar shredding accompanied frequently by usage of his wah pedal. Cuts such as Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Creeping Death and the encore Enter Sandman in particular contained solos showcasing his seemingly boundless talent! Things heated up literally as well during the songs Fight Fire with Fire and Sandman when pyrotechnics were activated and flames shot up from the stage. At the end Ulrich tossed sticks out into the audience. Hetfield, Trujillo and Hammett threw and shook picks from little jack o' lantern tins out into the crowd, the picks of which boasting the band logo as well as the theatre's location and concert date on them. Great souvenirs in even something so small right there as my husband and I each scooped one up off the floor! A grand night out, the next one of which cannot come soon enough!

The impatient wait had been going on for months - I booked this show when tickets went on sale back in March or whenever it was, and October had take so long to come around - but finally it was here: Metallica day!

The day started with a trip to the pop-up merch store in London, then onto the O2 for an agonising queue (good thing it's what us Brits do best, apart from moan about it of course) before finally getting in and finding my seat - which, by pure luck, was a superb view. Again, what felt like days, but in reality was only 30-40 mins wait, the lights dimmed, the background music shut off, and the familiar notes of the intro track, "The Ecstasy of Gold", complete with video footage from "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", began to ring out, to rapturous roaring and whistling from the 20,000 strong crowd. The hairs on my arms are standing on end just recounting it for this review. And then we were in: full-bore, 100mph, Metallica took to the stage and belted out song after song after song with barely a moment to catch your breath before the next does of thrash metal came your way. "Thrash metal?", I hear you say, "Metallica hasn't been thrash metal since the 80's!". Oh my friend, trust me when I say thrash metal - we had some of the best early work represented tonight, not least with half a dozen track from the new album "Hardwired... To Self Destruct" that included unrelenting riff after riff, from the likes of "Hardwired", "Atlas Rise", "Moth Into Flame", coupled with one of the heaviest tracks they've ever written "Dream No More", plus "Halo on Fire" and "Now That We're Dead". All segmented in-between some of the bands greatest songs; "Seek & Destroy", "Through The Never", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", "For Whom The Bell Tolls", "Through The Never", "One", "Sad But True", "Fuel", the obligatory cover, this time from the Misfits' "Die Die My Darling", before ending the show with "Master of Puppets".

Of course, it wasn't the end - back for the encore the intro to "Damage Inc" came on, before they ripped all the way through it, eventually slowing the pace to play the ever-loved "Nothing Else Matters" and finally ending on probably their most well known song "Enter Sandman"

It was a great varied selection of tunes that spans most of their career - the only notable exceptions being there was nothing from "Load", "St Anger" or the previous record "Death Magnetic". But otherwise all the other studio albums were represented. Some guitar and bass doodles from Kirk and Rob, before Rob gave us a wonderful tribute to Cliff by playing "Anesthesia".

If you get the chance to go, then go see this show - it's truly magnificent, from a band with 36 years experience in being the biggest metal band on the planet, and it shows you just why they are. I just wish I had a ticket for tomorrow night too.

2nd September show in Cobenhagen.

Tallica promised us a unique show because this concert was postponed show from February. Many people travel a long way to see them in February including me traveling from Iceland.

The moment when I heard Seek & Destory in the #3rd slot then I knew this was going to be something special.

They performed Thought The Never in slot #4 and that song has not been played for 4 years. The next song was The Day That Never Comes and we did not believe that because in our wildest dreams we hoped to have that on the list, we jumped like there was no day tomorrow.

Dream No More was in the slot #7 and that was the second time Metallica has played that song. It was nice to hear Breadfan in slot #10. We saw many drons flying over the stage in Moth Into Flame, which was amazing!

Fight Fire With Fire was in the encore faster than ever.

Me and my friends walked away from Royal Arena in great mood with a big smile on our faces and with a hoarse throut, like James was in February.

About the unique show as we where promised in February it was only UNIQUE for 2 days because Amsterdam got almost the same setlist. But we got a free T-shirt, that was probably the unique thing for us.

We where hoping for some live debut like Murder One, Spit Out The Bones but it did not happend.

The song ManUnkind was performed tonight in Paris (10th September) and that is unique.

Iceland has been waiting since 2004 for Metallica to come back to Iceland when they held the biggest indore concert in Reykjavík. We do not want to wait another 23 years like we did before 2004.

All the best,

Gauti Sigurpálsson

Slipknot announces 'Here Comes The Pain' tour for 25th anniversary, stop at CFG Bank Arena

H eavy titans and cultural phenomenon SLIPKNOT are pleased to announce the North American portion of their Here Comes The Pain Tour. This year the nine are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their seminal debut album, Slipknot, which catapulted the band back in 1999, according to Live Nation.

In addition to recently announced dates across the globe, the Here Comes The Pain Tour, produced by Live Nation, includes a stop at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore on August 9, 2024. Special guests on the Here Comes The Paint Tour are Kentucky’s young and vibrant hardcore/metal forerunners, Knocked Loose, and Orbit Culture.

Knotfest.com’s artist presale tickets are available today at 12 p.m. ET here . Tickets will be available to the general public on Friday, May 3 at 10 a.m. See below for a full list of dates including Slipknot’s homecoming performance at Knotfest Iowa in which the band will play a unique set drawing heavily from their 1999 debut, celebrating 25 years of the self-titled album along with their fans.

Slipknot is approaching this 25th anniversary by making the conscious decision to connect to fans as closely as possible, in a similar way to how they encountered Slipknot all those years ago. “Every time I've walked on stage, it's never been about how many people have been there because my culture, the maggots, always show up,” says founding member Shawn “clown” Crahan with a smile.

“But as we’ve grown as a band, we have had fewer and fewer of those intimate, personal moments, trading them for massive ones. So we're gonna make it more personal on the anniversary, but how remains to be seen. Just get ready to have your face kicked in. Because we just do what we do, spread that maggot culture – that disease. And you've been infected.”

METALLICA Shares Full Video Of Cover Of ELTON JOHN's 'Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding'

METALLICA honored Elton John and his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin by performing at a tribute concert at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. on March 20. A full video of the performance has now been posted on METALLICA 's YouTube channel and can be seen below.

Elton and Bernie collected the Library Of Congress Gershwin Prize for their contribution to music at the invitation-only event, which included appearances by John and Taupin , was hosted by Billy Porter .

METALLICA opened the show with a rendition of "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" from John 's 1973 double album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" .

A month ago, METALLICA shared only a snippet of the performance on social media, writing in an accompanying message: " Sir Elton John helped cover 'Nothing Else Matters' on 'The Metallica Blacklist' in 2021, and tonight, you can see us return the favour! Tune in to PBS to catch our rendition of 'Funeral For A Friend' / 'Love Lies Bleeding' at this year's Gershwin Prize for Popular Music, celebrating the achievements of Elton John and his writing partner, Bernie Taupin ."

According to People , members of METALLICA told reporters how much John and Taupin 's collaborations have meant to them. "They're an inspiration to us," frontman James Hetfield said. Guitarist Kirk Hammett added, "They're responsible for some of the greatest songs of my childhood."

Also appearing at the concert were singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell , country singer Garth Brooks , folk singer Brandi Carlile , and Scottish musician and EURYTHMICS star Annie Lennox .

Ahead of the event, METALLICA said in a statement: "We are beyond excited and proud to have been invited to perform at a very special event honoring the legendary songwriting team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin as they are presented with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

"We are traveling to Washington, DC, next month to join Garth Brooks , Annie Lennox , Brandi Carlile , Maren Morris , and others for the tribute concert and award presentation on March 20. PBS stations nationwide will premiere the concert on Monday, April 8, at 8 PM ET (check local listings),available via broadcast and streaming on PBS.org and the PBS app.

" Elton and Bernie have been collaborating for 56 years and counting, and together, they have penned some of our lifetime's most memorable and influential songs. We are thrilled to celebrate this honor with them, and we look forward to an incredible evening of unique performances from their remarkable collection of songs."

The 90-minute program "Elton John & Bernie Taupin: The Library Of Congress Gershwin Prize For Popular Song" honors the longtime singer-songwriter duo as the two iconic artists receive this year's distinguished recognition from the Library Of Congress.

Recording artist Elton John and lyricist Bernie Taupin joined creative forces in 1967 and went on to pen timeless standards such as "Your Song" , "Tiny Dancer" , "Rocket Man" , "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" . In addition to ballads, the duo created sensational rock hits, including "Bennie And The Jets" and "Crocodile Rock" , which became their first No. 1 single in the U.S. in 1973.

Today, John is among the top-selling solo artists of all time, with over 70 Top 40 hits over six decades, including nine No. 1s and 28 Top 10s on the Billboard Hot 100. He has sold more than 300 million records worldwide. John holds the record for the biggest-selling physical single of all time with Taupin 's rewritten lyrics for "Candle In The Wind 1997" , which sold more than 33 million copies after the sudden death of Princess Diana . In 2018, he was named the most successful male solo artist in Billboard Hot 100 chart history. In America, John holds the record for the longest span between Billboard Top 40 hits at 50 years.

In 1992, John established the Elton John AIDS Foundation, which continues to lead the global fight against HIV/AIDS. The foundation has raised more than $565 million for HIV/AIDS grants that have funded more than 3,000 projects in more than 90 countries to care for patients and provide education for AIDS prevention. His music and charitable service have been honored with a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II ; the Légion d'honneur, France's highest award; and the National Humanities Medal awarded by President Joe Biden at the White House in 2022.

Since launching his first tour in 1970, John has delivered more than 4,000 performances in more than 80 countries. His work has spanned recording studios, stadiums, stages, and screens — always with music that resonates with new generations of audiences. Disney 's "The Lion King", carried by John 's tunes, continues to be one of Broadway's longest-running shows.

In January 2024, John won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special for his show "Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium" , making him just the 19th performer to achieve rare EGOT status, having also won five Grammy awards, two Oscars for his work on "The Lion King" and with Taupin on the movie "Rocketman" , and a Tony Award for the score to the Broadway musical "Aida" .
