I’d argue that Enniscorthy Castle is one of the most overlooked castles in Ireland .

In the guide below, I’m going to show you why I believe it’s worth your time. You’ll get an insight into its history, the tour and what to expect from a visit.

1. Location

Enniscorthy Castle is located at the centre of Enniscorthy Town. It’s a 20-minute drive from Wexford Town , a 30-minute drive from both Gorey and New Ross and a 35-minute drive from Rosslare .

2. Opening hours

From Monday to Friday, the castle opens at 9:30 am and closes at 5:00 pm, with the last admission at 4:30 pm. On the weekends, it opens at 12:00 am and closes at 5:00 pm (note: opening hours may change).

3. The tour

According to online reviews, the guided tour of Enniscorthy Castle is informative, well run and will give you a lot of insight into the town’s past. Tickets for Enniscorthy Castle will cost you €6 per adult, €5 for seniors and students and €4 for children under 16.

4. Home to a whole lot of history

Enniscorthy Castle was built in the 13th century and since then it has been home to all sorts of historical figures, from Normans knights and Irish rebels to British forces and local merchant families! More info below.

A brief history of Enniscorthy Castle

Enniscorthy Castle

The first stone castle built on this site dates back to 1190 when Philip De Prendergast, a French Norman knight, set-up shop here with his wife, Maud. The couple and their descendants lived here until 1370 when Art MacMurrough Kavanagh attacked the structure to reclaim his ancestral land.

Kavanagh was successful and Enniscorthy Castle became the property of his family until 1536 when Enniscorthy Castle and its surroundings were surrendered to Lord Leonard Grey.

16th and 17th century

In 1569, a fire set by the Earl of Kildare destroyed part of the castle. Later on, during the Elizabethan plantation, this structure was completely refurbished and extended thanks to Sir Henry Wallop, Ireland’s vice-treasurer.

In 1649, Enniscorthy Castle was occupied by Cromwellian forces before it was retaken by the Irish Confederates and Monarchists. However, soon after, the Comwellians managed to occupy it again.

During the 1798 Rebellion, the Castle served as a prison for the United Irishmen first and then for the British, after they successfully conquered Enniscorthy Town after the Battle of Vinegar Hill .

Modern history

During the 20th century, Enniscorthy Castle finally enjoyed a period of peace, becoming the official residence of the Roche family. In 1951, the family decided to vacate the building and, in the following years, the castle played host to Wexford County Museum.

Nowadays, Enniscorthy Castle hosts exhibitions on the Roche family as well as the Industrial and Commercial heritage of Enniscorthy.

It’s well worth a visit and it’s particularly handy for those of you looking for things to do in Enniscorthy when it’s raining.

Things to do in Enniscorthy Castle

There’s a handful of things to see and do around Enniscorthy Castle that make it well worth nipping into for an hour or so.

Below, you’ll find info on the architecture, the dungeon, the wall art and some more unique features.

1. Admire the architecture from the outside

When you arrive at Enniscorthy Castle, make sure to take a minute to admire this massive structure from the outside. This building is characterised by a 4-storey rectangular keep and four corner towers echoing the style of the nearby Norman Ferns Castle and Clarlow Castle.

Unlike these other two sites, however, thanks to the restoration work done by the Roche family, Enniscorthy Castle is incredibly well-preserved and can still be admired in all its grandeur.

2. See the dungeon and the wall art

You’ll also find a rare example of medieval art; A halberdier (a man armed with a halberd weapon), can be found in the dungeon of the castle.

Thanks to the restoration work, many details that were once hidden are now visible, such as the bottoms of the tunic worn by the halberdier, his hachured clothing as well as his mouth and cheeks.

3. Soak up the views

During your visit, make sure to nip up to the top of the castle. From here, you’ll be treated to views of Enniscorthy Town and Vinegar Hill where a battle took place during the 1798 Irish Rebellion. Bear in mind that access to this area is allowed only if accompanied by a staff member.

Things to do near Enniscorthy Castle

One of the beauties of Enniscorthy Castle is that it’s a short spin away from many of the best things to do in Wexford .

Below, you’ll find a handful of things to see and do a stone’s throw from the castle (plus where to grab a great bit of lunch!).

1. Food in the town

The Wilds Enniscorty

There’s several stunning restaurants in Enniscorthy . My personal favourites are Alba Restaurant, where they dish up tasty southern Italian food and Casa d’Galo Chargrill. The Wilds is another excellent option, especially if you get in for the lunch menu.

2. National 1798 Rebellion Centre (10-minute walk)

The National 1798 Rebellion Centre is situated to the south of Enniscorthy Town on Parnell Road. This centre will give you an insight into everything there is to know about the 1798 Rebellion. It features a 4D battle of the Vinegar Hill experience, and here you will learn how the weapons used during the battle were operated.

3. Vinegar Hill (25-minute walk)

If you are interested in the 1798 Rebellion or you fancy soaking up some views, make sure to visit Vinegar Hill . It’s a short walk to the top and the views on a clear day are outstanding (especially around sunset!).

4. Blackstairs Mountains (25-minute drive)

The Blackstairs Mountains are situated west of Enniscorthy Town on the border with County Carlow. There are several different trails to tackle here and it’s home to some of the most overlooked walks in Wexford .

Enniscorthy: Enniscorthy Castle

enniscorthy castle tours

Enniscorthy Castle can trace its origins back to the thirteenth century and over its history has been “home” to Norman knights, English armies, local merchants, Irish rebels and Republican prisoners.  A tour of Enniscorthy Castle showcases the interlinked history of the castle and town from the Anglo-Norman period up to the twentieth century.  Wall art in the dungeon has been the subject of much archaeological debate; a floor furnished in the Edwardian style remembers the time when Enniscorthy Castle was home to the Roche family; a space has also been given over to copies of furniture designed by the internationally-renowned Enniscorthy-born Eileen Gray (1878-1976).  The roof of Enniscorthy Castle is accessible and from the battlemented parapets visitors can enjoy panoramic vistas overlooking the town and the windmill stump on the summit of Vinegar Hill.

Discovering the Rich History of Enniscorthy Castle, Co. Wexford, Ireland

Nestled in the picturesque town of Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland, lies the magnificent Enniscorthy Castle. With its rich and captivating history, the castle has stood as a testament to Ireland’s tumultuous past, witnessing many significant events and transformations over the centuries. In this comprehensive article, we will unravel the fascinating history of Enniscorthy Castle, exploring its origins, residents, architectural features, and historical significance.

The Origins of Enniscorthy Castle

The story of Enniscorthy Castle begins in the 12th century when the Normans first arrived in Ireland. Constructed in the early 13th century, the castle initially served as a strategic stronghold for the Anglo-Normans. Its prime location on a hill overlooking the River Slaney made it an ideal site for controlling trade routes and monitoring the surrounding landscape.

Enniscorthy Castle’s Early Residents

Throughout its long history, Enniscorthy Castle was home to various influential families, each leaving their mark on the castle and its surroundings. Among its early residents were the powerful De Prendergast family, who held the castle until the 14th century. The De Prendergasts were succeeded by the Kavanagh and Roche families, both of whom played pivotal roles in the castle’s development and the local history of County Wexford.

The Architectural Evolution of Enniscorthy Castle

Enniscorthy Castle’s architecture reflects the various stages of its development and the influences of its different occupants. The original structure consisted of a square keep with four corner towers, a design typical of Norman fortifications. As the castle changed hands over the centuries, its residents made modifications and additions that reflected their needs, tastes, and the architectural styles of their time.

The 16th-Century Additions

In the 16th century, the castle underwent significant changes under the ownership of the powerful Roche family. Sir Henry Wallop, the then Governor of Munster, seized the castle from the Roches in 1585, initiating a period of extensive renovations. Among the most notable additions during this time were the large, rectangular, four-story tower house and the impressive east range, which still stand today.

The 17th-Century Restorations

During the 17th century, Enniscorthy Castle saw further transformations as it was passed between various occupants. Following the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland in the 1650s, the castle was taken by the English Parliamentarians and subsequently restored and fortified. The most significant change during this period was the construction of a sturdy, star-shaped curtain wall that encircled the castle, providing added protection against potential attacks.

Enniscorthy Castle in the 18th and 19th Centuries

The 18th and 19th centuries saw Enniscorthy Castle continue to evolve, both architecturally and in terms of its residents. By this time, the castle had become a symbol of power and authority in the region.

The Castle as a Private Residence

In the early 18th century, the castle was transformed into a private residence, occupied by various local gentry families. Among these were the Esmondes and later, the Colcloughs. During their tenure, the castle underwent several renovations to make it more suitable for comfortable living. These changes included the removal of some of the castle’s defensive features, such as the curtain wall, and the addition of more modern, Georgian-style elements.

Enniscorthy Castle and the 1798 Rebellion

Enniscorthy Castle played a significant role in the 1798 Rebellion, a major uprising against British rule in Ireland. The castle was used as a military base by the United Irishmen, who briefly held control of the town of Enniscorthy. Following the defeat of the rebels, the castle was taken back by British forces and used as a base for their counterinsurgency operations. This event left a lasting mark on the castle’s history and its significance in Irish national memory.

enniscorthy castle tours

Enniscorthy Castle in the 20th Century and Beyond

The 20th century saw Enniscorthy Castle undergo further transformations, both in terms of its function and its physical structure. The castle’s role as a private residence ended in the early 20th century when it was sold to a local entrepreneur, who converted it into a factory producing condensed milk. This industrial use of the castle continued until the mid-20th century when it was finally abandoned.

The Restoration and Rebirth of Enniscorthy Castle

In the late 20th century, the castle’s future was uncertain, as it had fallen into disrepair after decades of neglect. Recognizing the historical significance of the castle and its potential as a tourist attraction, the local government, along with various heritage organizations, embarked on an ambitious project to restore Enniscorthy Castle to its former glory.

This extensive restoration project included the repair and conservation of the castle’s historic fabric, as well as the installation of modern facilities to accommodate visitors. The castle was reopened to the public in 1996, and it has since become a popular tourist destination, offering visitors a unique insight into Ireland’s rich and turbulent history.

Today, Enniscorthy Castle is a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in Irish history, architecture, and culture. The castle serves as a museum, showcasing its fascinating past through a range of engaging exhibits, guided tours, and interactive experiences.

The Castle’s Exhibits and Collections

Enniscorthy Castle is an imposing Norman stronghold in the heart of Enniscorthy town. Originally built in the 13th century it has been ‘home’ to Norman knights, English armies, Irish rebels and prisoners, and local merchant families.

The castle was the site of many fierce battles during the Cromwellian years and was also used as a prison during the the 1798 Rebellion Rising. The nearby National 1798 Rebellion Centre tells this epic story, and is well worth a visit.

Enniscorthy Castle depicts the story of Enniscorthy town through the eyes of the castle, and how both have developed over the centuries. The exhibition also explores the 1916 Easter Rising in Enniscorthy, the only town to rise outside of Dublin.

The roof of the castle is also accessible (when on a guided tour) with spectacular views of the surrounding buildings and countryside including the historic Vinegar Hill, a pudding-shaped hill overlooking the town. Vinegar Hill was the largest camp and headquarters of the rebels of 1798 who controlled County Wexford for thirty days against vastly superior forces.

We found Enniscorthy Castle to contain layers and layers of enthralling history and would recommend adding this to your list of places to see if you happen to be staying in County Wexford .

A Rich History

In 1931, Theodore “Teddy” Bettendorf immigrated to America from Luxembourg. Overlooking the town of Fox River Grove, he began building a castle that took over 36 years of dedication and hard work. As a boy, Teddy learned his masonry skills from watching a historic castle being rebuilt in his hometown of Vianden, Luxembourg. In his building of the castle, he collected stones from such places as local farmers’ fields, stone quarries, and the excavation of Lake Julian. In addition to the castle itself, there is a water-filled moat, a wishing well, a working drawbridge, an outside bathroom and sink, an outdoor fireplace, an observation tower,  and a courtyard. Since its completion, the Bettendorf Castle has been used as a honeymoon suite, for the filming of commercials, various civic events, and as a private residence.

8 Most Beautiful Castles in Illinois

Illinois

Illinois was founded in 1813.

It became the 21st state in the US on December 3, 1818.

You might wonder if there are any real-life castles in the state of Illinois, since, after all, it really isn’t such an old state when compared to other European countries.

Many of which have castles dating back to the 10th century and some even earlier.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that Illinois has approximately eight castles.

In this article, we will review these castles, their history, and what makes them so unique.

1. Bettendorf Castle

2. soderstrom castle, 3. castle of palmyra, 4. the castle at stronghold center, 5. ravenstone castle, 6. the castle on roanoke, 7. givins’ irish castle, 8. dunham castle, illinois safety overview, what is the oldest castle in illinois, has there ever been a king or queen in the us, what is the oldest castle in the us, eight most beautiful castles in illinois.

Bettendorf Castle is located in Fox River Grove, Illinois, and is considered to be a historical landmark.

This is a one-of-a-kind gothic-style castle that overlooks the town of Fox River Grove.

It is the dream and vision of Theodore “Teddy” Bettendorf who immigrated from his hometown in Vianden, Luxembourg to the United States in 1936.

Mr. Bettendorf had learned masonry skills from a young age while seeing a castle in his hometown being restored.

During the construction of Bettendorf Caste, Mr. Bettendorf collected stones from various places such as the excavation of Lake Julian, local stone quarries, and local farmers’ fields in the area.

Aesthetically, the castle is a masterpiece.

It is reminiscent of some eastern European castles from the middle ages.

The castle is set in mature woodland surrounded by luscious greenery, beautiful oak trees, and unsurpassed landscapes.

It is a fortress that features both towers and turrets.

The castle itself is surrounded by fountains and a spacious yard.

In addition, there is a working drawbridge, an actual dungeon, and a water-filled moat.

The most magical aspect of the castle is the wishing fountain found in its courtyard.

Today, the castle serves various purposes.

It has been used as a residence, a wedding venue, an event venue, a photoshoot venue, and more.

Soderstrom Castle is located in Peoria Heights, Illinois.

It is another historical landmark that was modeled after a French chateau in the Loire Valley .

Although it bears the title of a castle, it is more reminiscent of a chateau-like private residence.

And that is exactly what it is today. It is a private residence and home to Dr. Carl W. Soderstrom.

The castle was completed in 1930. It features crenellations, towers, and turrets.

These features have solidified its presence as a landmark in the area.

The history of the castle begins in 1892.

Helen Chubbock was born into a wealthy family who ensured that she and her siblings attained all the social graces of royalty.

And that is exactly how the family was viewed by the inhabitants of Peoria Heights at the time.

She dreamed of being a true princess and living in a real castle.

Fast-forward to 1918 when she married George Lusk and started to collect ideas for the structure of her soon-to-be castle, Soderstrom Castle.

In 1928, the couple traveled through Europe in search of ideas from existing castles at the time, to design their perfect dream home.

The couple hired a prominent architect by the name of L. Eugene Robinson to draw up the blueprints of the castle, which he had completed by 1929.

Thus, the castle was completed in 1930 and from the very first moment it was viewed, it was clear that it would become one of the most famous landmarks of the area.

By 1960, both Mr. and Mrs. Lusk had passed away and the home was purchased by the Walter F. Dexter family in 1962.

In 1972, the home was again purchased by architectural designer David Haase.

From 2013 to the present date, the owner of the castle is Dr. Carl W. Soderstrom.

The castle has been used for many charity events as the current owner is particularly interested in philanthropy.

This castle is located between Hettick and Palmyra, Illinois.

It is approximately 80 minutes from St Louis.

The castle of Palmyra is much more modern.

Having only been built in 2004, it features 9,000 square feet of living space , five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a 2,000 square foot deck, elevator access, wooden and stone floors throughout the structure, a modern kitchen, and two outdoor grills.

It offers a very peaceful and tranquil ambiance and sits on a 40-acre estate, surrounded by beautiful, lush greenery.

The interior of the castle is more reminiscent of a modern structure, rather than the traditional structure and interior one might find in a traditional castle from the middle ages.

As the seasons change, the picturesque castle is transformed from a winter wonderland to a visual treat when the surrounding maple trees turn bright green, yellow, red, and orange during autumn and again in spring and summer.

Visitors can go hiking on one of the many trails surrounding the castle, or go for a walk in nature, rock hunting, and even enjoy a swim in the private lake.

Guests are spoiled with their own private observatory where they are able to gaze at the stars through a refractor telescope.

Alternatively, there is a nine-hole golf course on the property.

The castle serves as a vacation rental these days.

The Castle at Stronghold Center is located in Oregon , Illinois on 360 acres of land.

It is a Tudor-style castle and is run by the Presbyterian Church.

This unique castle is situated on the bluffs and overlooks Rock River.

The castle is actually a four-season retreat and camping center.

In essence, it is a Tudor-style manor house.

The property features a great hall situated in front of an outdoor fireplace.

The property was purchased in 1928 by Walter A. Strong who was the  Chicago Daily News owner.

Construction started in 1931.

The property is available to be rented to the public and features dormitory-style lodging, wilderness cabins, seven retreat homes that can house anywhere from six to 56 guests, a massive outdoor fireplace, and many rooms that may be used as seminar rooms or meeting rooms.

Regular tours are hosted through the castle.

The tour lasts about an hour and touches on everything from the history of the castle, how it was built, and the Stronghold family.

The castle is located in Harvard, Illinois.

Today, the castle functions as a bed-and-breakfast that occasionally arranges tours for the public and hosts various events.

Construction on the castle started in 2001.

Jose and Rose Michel set out to design their dream home, a 16th-century-style castle, emulating the turrets, arcs, and other features of a true medieval castle.

The family built this castle from the ground up and populated the home with various antique pieces from all over the world.

The castle is open to the public and arranges occasional events and tours.

Tours include private, pre-arranged tours, or tours on scheduled days and times.

While this castle-style home doesn’t have a rich history in terms of centuries, it does have a rich history in terms of its interior decor.

The Castle on Roanoke is another castle located in Peoria Heights, Illinois.

What it actually is, is an apartment that is situated in a castle-like structure.

The castle is available for vacation rentals and can be rented from Air B&B.

The castle has one tower at the front of the structure.

It is very modern on the inside, though it does somewhat resemble the structure of a gothic-style castle on the outside.

The structure is situated on a prominent piece of property in a suburban area.

The castle apartment features two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The castle is located in Chicago, Illinois.

You can find this castle-like property in the historic district of Chicago.

It is considered to be a historical landmark.

It is perched on a hill in Longwood Drive Historic District in Chicago.

Standing three stories tall, the castle was originally constructed between 1886 and 1887.

It features two round crenelated lookout towers and is made of stone.

Over the entire span of its existence, the castle has only had five castle keepers.

Robert Givins arrived in Chicago in 1863, as a teenager, from Canada .

He moved into real estate and did exceptionally well in this field.

Mr. Givins built the home for his family, who resided on the property on and off for approximately a decade.

He was a well-traveled man who loved to write and was even touted as being a candidate for mayor.

The castle is not open for tours to the public but private tours may be arranged.

Dunham Castle is a historical landmark located in Wayne, Illinois.

Today, the castle serves as a residence.

It was constructed by Mr. Mark Dunham in 1883.

Mark Dunham moved to Chicago with his family in 1835 where his father, Mr. Solomon Dunham purchased land in the St. Charles area for $1.25 per acre.

Originally, his father built a log cabin on the property.

Later, when he passed away, the land was inherited by his son, Mark, who had a passion for horses and started to import horses from France and breed them for pulling farm equipment.

These horses would be used on farms and the business made Mark a very wealthy man.

During the height of his success, Mark embarked on a different challenge.

He would build a home on the property which had been expanded by an additional 2,000 acres.

The castle was designed with the inspiration of a French chateau by Elgin architect, Mr. Smith Hoag.

The castle has changed hands several times over the decades until it was purchased in 1986 by David Armbrust of Glen Ellyn.

The property has been restored to a single-family home and is still a testament to the rich history and success of the Dunham family.

The interior is the same, as it features very detailed sculptures and original art to give a unique elegance you are least likely to find anywhere else.

While the castle started as a modest home, its owners, Alan and Adrianne St. George, started to transform the building until it became a masterpiece.

Like your typical Victorian-era castle, its most outstanding feature is the ballroom with 24 life-sized figures.

Additionally, there is the memorial hall that houses an accurate and full-sized replica of the Titanic’s staircase, including the famous clock and dining salon .

Castles in Orion and Dewey, Illinois

1. warner castle (spooky haunted rumors).

While everyone else may be searching for the typical castle with tours and possible accommodations, you may want something a little more spooky, which is what Warner Castle is for.

The castle is an $80,000 estate erected by Wilder W. Warner, a business owner, and politician in the late 1800s.

For a property that had existed for about two centuries, the castle still maintains the best quality with intricate details such as hand-carved busts and marble fireplaces that will give more recent structures a run for their money.

The property, while no longer a family possession, is being properly maintained and open to visits.

As the castle is rumored to be haunted , especially during Halloween each year, you can block your calendar for the last day of October to find out.

Address: 17780 Warner Castle Rd, Orion, IL

2. Busboom Castle (Pirate Ship & Gargoyles)

Like many others, the Busboom castle came into being in the late 1980s when Bruce Busboom decided to build his dream home.

He used secluded woods while applying adept masonry skills in erecting the castle.

The 5,000 square feet property boasts attractive designs and architecture pleasing to the eyes.

While at the property, one of the fun things to look out for is the carriage lights illuminated, 600-pond drawbridge during the fanfare that lowers down to introduce you to the castle.

Even more interestingly is the entire pirate ship in the backyard and the large gargoyles water fountain that feeds into the moat below.

This castle is open to visits, tours, and stayovers if you want to have a memorable time with family and friends.

While the outlook carries heavy themes of European architecture, it also betrays hints of Moroccan aesthetic, a distinct feature setting it apart from other castles.

Asides from the attractive exterior are carved lattice woodwork, Mediterranean-style archways, and a Muslim crescent sitting atop the domes.

With a view overlooking the Mississippi River, anyone will attest at this point that the castle is breathtaking.

You will also find intriguing features such as the reflecting pool , harem, and courtyard in its interior.

Finally, you should look for the architecture if you wouldn’t visit because of the rumor.

2. Dunham castle (French Chateau Style)

enniscorthy castle tours

While it is named after Mark Dunham, who built the castle on land he acquired from his father, the estate has experienced numerous changes in ownership over the years.

This French-style castle features a winding drive, a vast courtyard, and a dense forest, which is unsurprising as a French Chateau inspired by the estate and the fact that Mark was a horse breeder, hence the need for space.

Even more, are the French tapestries, statues, and artwork that beautify its interior.

Unlike most other castles, the Dunham Castle has retained most of its original features and is currently open for tours.

You can be sure to ass the castle to your itinerary when you next visit Wayne.

1. altgeld hall castles (altgeld legislation origin).

enniscorthy castle tours

Right inside the Northern Illinois University campus are the over 200 years Altgeld Hall castles, also originally known as the “Castle on the Hill.”

John Peter Altgeld signed the legislation that brought the castles to life, after which the castles were named after him.

The castles come in a Tudor-Gothic style, with different rooms serving as a boardroom, classrooms, a gymnasium , laboratories, administrative rooms, and a library.

The most exciting aspect of these castles is the time capsule built long after the castle was erected but has never been launched.

However, locals are looking forward to its 150th anniversary in 2049 when it will be open.

You may not want to wait that long to see the beauty that is the Altgeld Hall castle.

Address: 595 College Ave. (Castle Dr.) DeKalb, IL

2. Old Main Castle (Gothic Revival Style)

enniscorthy castle tours

While not being named after him, the Old Main Castle was also built by Governor Altgeld.

The 124-year-old castle, formerly the Livingstone C. Lord Administration Building, was designed by Architect George H. Miller from Bloomington.

As one of the first buildings on the campus, the castle housed several classrooms, a gym , a library, and an auditorium.

Aside from being built in a medieval Gothic Revival style, this castle stands out as it was built with Indiana limestone, a crenelated roof line, and gothic style towers, turrets, and pointed arches and battlements.

Although the University has more modem buildings, the castle still stands out and is one of the historic sites in the city.

Like other campus buildings, the castle is open to tours and visits.

Address: 2275 E Bluff St, Marseilles,Charlesonton, IL

3. Cook Hall castle (German-Style Castle)

enniscorthy castle tours

This castle, also constructed under the order of Governor Altgeld, has a slightly different look as it is reminiscent of German-style castles.

Although it was initially called the Gymnasium, the castle is named after the University’s fourth president, Williston John Cook, with design credits going to local architects Miller & Fisher.

As a gymnasium, the castle housed several pieces of equipment, such as Indian clubs, dumbbells, ladders, slippery poles, rings, parallel bars, and substantial leather horses.

Then it was transformed into a University radio station for some time.

The castle now doubles as the School of Music at the University, including rehearsal halls, music classrooms, and practice rooms.

If you are looking for a place to enjoy a bit of history, art, and music, then this is it.
