Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus meant what she said about not wanting to tour anymore. After some fans were left disappointed when she revealed in a recent interview that she has no plans to hit the road, the pop star has now posted a message to social media doubling down and shedding light on her decision.

Here’s Why Miley Cyrus Fans Probably Won’t See Her on Tour Anytime Soon

Trending on billboard.

The message comes less than a week after the “Flowers” singer told British Vogue that she wouldn’t be touring in support of her latest album, Endless Summer Vacation , even though it’s been nearly 10 years since her last global trek (2014’s Bangerz Tour). “I can’t,” she told the publication, calling stadium and arena performances “isolating” and “not natural.” “Not only ‘can’t’, because ‘can’t’ is your capability, but my desire. Do I want to live my life for anyone else’s pleasure or fulfillment other than my own?”

Her new note to fans echoes those sentiments, with the musician writing, “I just don’t want to sleep on a moving bus.”

“It isn’t what’s best for me right NOW, & if you’ve been following my career you know that I always change and the way I feel about that could too,” she added. “Love you forever, I’m just on my Endless Summer Vacation.”

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus is clarifying her reason for not having a “desire” to go on extended headlining tours anymore.

The “Flowers” singer took to Instagram on Wednesday to express her love and appreciation for fans, and also to detail how difficult touring can actually be.

She continued, “Performing for YOU has been some of the best days of my life & we will continue this journey together as we have for the last almost two decades. This has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the fans & everything to do with I simply don’t want to get ready in a locker room. Which is the reality of life on the road.”

Her response comes after comments she made during an interview with British Vogue , where she said she’s not sure if she can see herself doing tours in the foreseeable future. This left many fans confused, especially those who were anticipating Cyrus to go on tour after releasing her latest studio album,  Endless Summer Vacation , in March.

“It’s been a minute,” she said in the interview for the magazine’s cover story. “After the last [headline arena] show I did [in 2014], I kind of looked at it as more of a question. And I can’t. Not only ‘can’t’, because can’t is your capability, but my desire. Do I want to live my life for anyone else’s pleasure or fulfillment other than my own?”…leaving the answer to that question up in the air.

The Grammy-nominated singer went on to explain on Instagram that the logistics that go into touring don’t fit into her lifestyle at the moment. “These looks I’ve been turnin’ don’t travel well,” she detailed. “The archival looks don’t fold. I just don’t want to sleep on a moving bus. It isn’t what’s best for me right NOW.”

'It Erases My Humanity': Miley Cyrus Explains Why She Doesn't Want To Go On Tour

Ben Blanchet

Miley Cyrus said touring “isn’t healthy” for her after previously explaining why she hasn’t gone on tour in support of her music.

In a clip posted Sunday from her “Used To Be Young” series on TikTok , the “Flowers” singer said her time as a cheerleader “set her up” for touring before breaking down what people “don’t really understand about” being a musician on the road.

“The show is only 90 minutes but that’s your life,” explained Cyrus, whose last tour was her Bangerz Tour in 2014. “If you’re performing at a certain level of intensity and excellence, there should be an equal amount of recovery and rest.”

She added that there’s a “level of ego” that “gets overused” while she’s on tour.

“I think when you’re training your ego, every single night to be active, that’s the hardest switch for me to turn off,” she said.

“Having every day the relationship between you and other humans being subject and observer isn’t healthy for me, because it erases my humanity and my connection, and without my humanity [and] my connection I can’t be a songwriter, which is my priority,” Cyrus said.

Cyrus, who achieved her second No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in January, previously questioned whether she wants to live her “life for anyone else’s pleasure of fulfillment” while discussing touring in an interview with British Vogue earlier this year.

“It’s been a minute. After the last [headline arena] show I did [in 2014], I kind of looked at it as more of a question,” she said .

“And I can’t. Not only ‘can’t’, because can’t is your capability, but my desire.”

The singer clarified in an Instagram post shared following the interview that she feels “connected to [her] fans NOW more than ever.”

“When I win, WE win. ❤️ Even if I don’t see them face to face every night at a concert, my fans are felt deeply in my heart,” she wrote. “I’m constantly creating and innovating new ways that I can stay connected to the audience I love – without sacrificing my own essentials.”

She went on to say that performing for her fans “has been some of the best days of my life” and it has “everything to do” with not having the desire to get ready in a locker room.

“It isn’t what’s best for me right NOW, & if you’ve been following my career you know that I always change and the way I feel about that could too,” she said.

For nearly a decade, Miley Cyrus has been on an endless summer vacation from arena tours.

Although the “Flowers” singer has continued to perform live in recent years, her most recent full arena tour came in 2014, when she went out on her Bangerz tour to support her album of the same name. She has since played only festivals and brief album tours with five to eight performances, including a weeklong stint on “ The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon ” in 2017.

In a recent cover-story interview with British Vogue , Cyrus explained why she has been leery of arena tours, despite her chart-topping hits and impassioned fan base.

Cyrus, who commands a following of more than 200 million users on Instagram, said she’s grateful for her fans, but added that it’s “not natural” trying to please thousands of people. She called the transition from being in front of 100,000 people to being alone afterward “isolating.”

Cyrus’ last headlining arena tour in 2014 spanned nine months and saw her traveling to three continents for 78 shows, including a stop at Los Angeles’ Cypto.com Arena, then known as Staples Center. Packed with hits such as “Wrecking Ball” and “We Can’t Stop” and a lot of twerking , the Bangerz tour amassed ticket sales of more than $60 million. Yet it was then that Cyrus started to rethink touring.

Miley Cyrus says touring isn't 'healthy' for her because it 'erases my humanity'

  • Miley Cyrus explained her decision to stop touring in a new video clip shared on TikTok.
  • She said that performing on stage fosters a dynamic of "subject and observer," which isn't "healthy" for her.
  • "It erases my humanity and my connection," she said.

Insider Today

Miley Cyrus opened up about her decision to stop touring and why life on the road is "unhealthy."

The video series, inspired by her latest single "Used to Be Young," sees Cyrus delving into her past and exploring her evolution in the public eye.

"The show is only 90 minutes but that's your life," she said in the clip, which was shared on TikTok . "If you're performing at a certain level of intensity and excellence, there should be an equal amount of recovery and rest."

Cyrus explained that performing live is all about "training your ego" to be "active," and it's difficult for her to "turn it off."

"Having every day the relationship between you and other humans being subject and observer isn't healthy for me, because it erases my humanity and my connection, and without my humanity, my connection, I can't be a songwriter, which is my priority," Cyrus said.

Cyrus embarked on her first blockbuster tour in 2007 when she was just 14 years old.

As a young tween, Cyrus was cast as the lead on Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana." Following the show's runaway success, she performed as her fictional alter-ego during the Best of Both Worlds Tour, which included 71 stops across the US and Canada.

Cyrus hasn't done a large-scale arena show since the Bangerz Tour in 2014, although she did book smaller venues in 2015 to support her fifth album, "Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz."

In the years since, Cyrus has only performed one-off shows and headlined festivals, including Glastonbury and Lollapalooza.

Following the March release of her eighth album, "Endless Summer Vacation," fans were clamoring for a new round of tour dates — especially now that the industry is back in full swing post-pandemic, with stars like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé performing for sold-out stadiums.

But instead, Cyrus shocked fans when she implied she was finished with touring for good.

"I can't. Not only 'can't,' because can't is your capability, but my desire," she told British Vogue . "Do I want to live my life for anyone else's pleasure or fulfillment other than my own?"

"Singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn't really the thing that I love," she added. "There's no connection. There's no safety."

After the interview was published in May, Cyrus clarified her comments in an open letter to fans.

"This has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the fans & everything to do with I simply don't want to get ready in a locker room. Which is the reality of life on the road," she wrote. "I just don't want to sleep on a moving bus. It isn't what's best for me right NOW, & if you've been following my career you know that I always change and the way I feel about that could too."

Miley Cyrus clarifies her relationship with fans after saying she has no 'desire' to tour again

Miley Cyrus is clearing up for fans why she doesn't have plans to embark on a concert tour any time soon.

In an interview with British Vogue published May 18, the "Flowers" singer said that in 2014 she took a step back and reevaluated whether or not she wanted to continue touring.

“After the last [headline arena] show I did [in 2014], I kind of looked at it as more of a question. And I can’t," she said. "Not only ‘can’t,’ because can’t is your capability, but my desire. Do I want to live my life for anyone else’s pleasure or fulfillment other than my own?”

Miley Cyrus performs her Bangerz Tour on October 23, 2014 in Perth, Australia.

She added that performing for tons of people "isn't really the thing that I love. There's no connection. There's no safety."

On May 24, the 30-year-old took to Instagram to share a message stating that she feels "connected" to her fans "NOW more than ever."

"When I win, WE win," she began, adding a red heart emoji. "Even if I don't see them face to face every night at a concert, my fans are felt deeply in my heart."

Cyrus said she's still coming up with new ways to stay connected to her audience "without sacrificing my own essentials."

"Performing for YOU has been some of the best days of my life & we will continue this journey together as we have for the last almost two decades. This has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the fans & everything to do with I simply don't want to get ready in a locker room. Which is the reality of life on the road," she wrote.

"These looks I've been turning don't travel well. The archival looks don't fold. I just don't want to sleep on a moving bus. It isn't what's best for me right NOW, & if you've been following my career you know that I always change and the way I feel about that could too," she concluded, before signing off that she's just on her "Endless Summer Vacation," referencing her new album.

Most comments on the singer's post were full of support, with some even assuming she'll be back on stage one day.

One person wrote, "ill be there FRONT AND CENTRE the second you’re ready."

Others expressed their hopes for a different kind of Cyrus concert, with one person commenting, "It’s giving Vegas residency, queen! Set those boundaries! Do you!"

In the same interview, Cyrus opened up about her early 20s, when she moved from her Disney Channel persona associated with "Hannah Montana" and into a more controversial and edgy performance genre.

“I’m actually not an attention-seeking person, sitting here as a 30-year-old grown woman,” Cyrus said, explaining that she was "creating attention" to distance herself from the character she played for four seasons.

“I carried some guilt and shame around myself for years because of how much controversy and upset I really caused,” she said. “Now that I’m an adult, I realize how harshly I was judged. I was harshly judged as a child by adults and now, as an adult, I realize that I would never harshly judge a child.”

Miley Cyrus Explains Why She Doesn't Want to Go on Tour: 'It Erases My Humanity and My Connection'

"Having every day the relationship between you and other humans being subject and observer isn’t healthy for me," Cyrus said in a TikTok video

Miley Cyrus has further elaborated on why touring just isn't "healthy" for her.

In her "Used to Be Young" TikTok interview series — following the release of her single of the same name on Friday, Aug. 25 — the "Flowers" singer shared how much being on the road has taken a toll on her.

"What people don’t really understand about touring is the show is only 90 minutes, but that’s your life," Cyrus, 30, said in a TikTok video posted on Sunday. “If you’re performing at a certain level of intensity and excellence, there should be an equal amount of recovery and rest."

She added, "There’s a level of ego that has to play a part, that I feel gets overused when I’m on tour and once that switches on, it’s hard to turn it off. And I think when you’re training your ego every single night to be active, that’s the hardest switch for me to turn off."

"Having every day the relationship between you and other humans being subject and observer isn’t healthy for me, because it erases my humanity and my connection and without my humanity [and] my connection I can’t be a songwriter, which is my priority," she concluded.

In May, Cyrus  told  British Vogue  that she doesn't have a "desire" to go on tour due to a lack of "connection" and "safety," and she posted to Twitter  shortly after to clarify her comments.

"For clarity I feel connected to my fans NOW more than ever. When I win, WE win," Cyrus wrote in a statement. "Even if I don't see them face to face every night at a concert, my fans are felt deeply in my heart."

The musician continued, "I just don't want to sleep on a moving bus. It isn't what's best for me right NOW, & if you've been following my career you know that I always change and the way I feel about that could too," Cyrus assured fans, before referencing the title of her latest album. "Love you forever , I'm just on my Endless Summer Vacation."

In an Instagram post on Saturday, Cyrus revealed that she was starting a new TikTok series where she'd be “looking back" on her life and "sharing untold stories" from her past. She said the series is inspired by her new single, "Used to Be Young," which dropped on Friday.

Cyrus promised to “start at the beginning” of her story in 1992 and trace the course of her three decades of life, including offering new details about some of her most memorable moments.

“Sometimes it feels like my life started when Hannah Montana was born,” she wrote in the post's caption, teasing the series. “But before Hannah there was Miley. My fantasy was to light up the world with laughter, music & iconic moments that last beyond my lifetime. Decades later I continue to fulfill my purpose because of the love provided by my fans."

She urged her fans to "follow along on my TikTok page over the next few days" to catch new updates in the series.

Bad news for fans hoping that Miley Cyrus would take her latest album Endless Summer Vacation on the road: The singer revealed in a new interview that she has no plans to embark on another arena tour.

Cyrus hasn’t embarked on a full-scale tour since 2014, a trek in support of Bangerz , which came out a decade — and four studio albums — ago. While she’s played smaller (less than 10 gigs) runs, in her backyard , and performed at dozens at festivals since then — including Glastonbury, Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza — Cyrus told Vogue UK that fans shouldn’t expect a world tour for her latest LP any time soon.

“It’s been a minute,” Cyrus said about touring. “After the last [headline arena] show I did [in 2014], I kind of looked at it as more of a question. And I can’t. Not only can’t, because can’t is your capability, but my desire. Do I want to live my life for anyone else’s pleasure or fulfillment other than my own?”

In a social media statement Wednesday, Cyrus clarified her comments, downplaying the “no connection” remark while reiterating that the “reality of life on the road” is the reason why she doesn’t want to tour.

Fans praise Miley Cyrus for open and honest reason behind not wanting to tour again.

Looking forward to seeing Miley Cyrus perform her Endless Summer Vacation bops on tour soon? Don't count on it...

Back in May, Miley told British Vogue that she's not sure if she'll ever tour again. Explaining why she doesn't like performing for large crowds, Miley said: "I love performing but pretty much for [my friends]. Like singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn’t really the thing that I love. There’s no connection. There’s no safety."

"It’s also not natural. It’s so isolating because if you’re in front of 100,000 people, then you are alone," she added.

While promoting her new single 'Used To Be Young', Miley touched on the subject of touring again and it seems like she won't be changing her mind about the subject.

Why isn't Miley Cyrus touring anymore?

Miley Cyrus explains why touring is not

In a TikTok video series , Miley dived into the personal reasons behind her not wanting to tour anymore.

"The show is only 90 minutes but that's your life," she said. "If you're performing at a certain level of intensity and excellence, there should be an equal amount of recovery and rest."

"There's a level of ego that has to play a part that I feel gets overused when I'm on tour, and once that switches on it's hard to turn it off," she continued. "And I think that when you're training your ego every single night to be active, that's the hardest switch for me to turn off."

Explaining the effect of performing to people has on her, she added: "Having every day the relationship between you and other humans being subject and observer isn't healthy for me, because it erases my humanity and my connection, and without my humanity, my connection, I can't be a songwriter, which is my priority."

As disappointing as it might be for some fans to not get the opportunity to see Miley dominate a world tour with her incredible stage presence, people have been supportive of her honesty and her reason behind not wanting to do it anymore.

"The self awareness is next level," one fan wrote in the comments. Another added: "You can tell that she has put in work with a therapist to learn how to care for herself and set boundaries.. that’s awesome!"

A third person wrote: "True for every profession. We are not alive to perform. We are alive to love and exist."

Miley Cyrus Reveals Why She 'Can't' Tour Anytime Soon

By Rebekah Gonzalez

May 22, 2023

did miley cyrus cancel her tour

Miley Cyrus fans who were holding out hope for an Endless Summer Vacation tour are out of luck. During a recent interview with British Vogue , the pop star revealed that she's going to be taking a break from touring.

“It’s been a minute," Cyrus admitted in the interview. "After the last [arena] show I did, I kind of looked at it as more of a question. And I can’t. Not only ‘can’t’ because can’t is your capability, but my desire.” She went on to say, "Do I want to live my life for anyone else’s pleasure or fulfillment other than my own? And, you know what…” before letting her "conclusion hang in the air."

While we'd love to see Cryus on tour again, we're glad she's listening to her gut and not spreading herself too thin. Luckily, fans have her stunning live album, ATTENTION: MILEY LIVE , which includes the biggest hits of her discography, her beloved covers of Blondie 's "Heart of Glass," and Dolly Parton 's "Jolene." Check it out on iHeartRadio !

Elsewhere in the interview, Miley got vulnerable about dealing with the pressures of growing up in the spotlight . "I carried some guilt and shame around myself for years because of how much controversy and upset I really caused. Now that I’m an adult, I realise how harshly I was judged," the former child star said. She also spoke about her boyfriend, drummer Maxx Morando , for the first time in an interview, revealing that they met on a blind date. "Well, it was blind for me and not really for him," Miley shared. "I thought, ‘The worst that can happen is I leave.'"

Her “Party in The USA” may be coming to a close , according to the singer.

Miley Cyrus , 30, revealed that she doesn’t see herself going on tour again in the foreseeable future, and she’s not sure if she ever will again.

“It’s been a minute,” she admitted to British Vogue for the June 2023 issue, where she will grace the cover. “After the last [headline arena] show I did [in 2014], I kind of looked at it as more of a question.”

She continued, “And I can’t. Not only ‘can’t…’ because can’t is your capability, but my desire. Do I want to live my life for anyone else’s pleasure or fulfilment other than my own? And, you know what…”

Vogue noted that she left her conclusion of the sentence “hanging in the air.”

The Post reached out to Cyrus’ reps for comment.

Miley Cyrus revealed how she really feels about large tours during an interview for her British Vogue cover.

In 2014, Cyrus embarked on a major tour in support of her “Bangerz” album, which debuted the previous year.

She performed over 70 shows across the world, hitting spots in New Zealand, Europe, the United States, and Canada, among others.

The opening acts on her “Bangerz” tour included duo Icona Pop, Lily Allen, and Sky Ferrira.

Since 2014, she has been on smaller tours, like her 2015 Milky Milky Milk Tour, which only featured 8 shows, or performing at music festivals as a part of her 2022 Attention Tour.

Earlier in the interview, Cyrus spoke more about her gripes with performing in front of large crowds, explaining that she’d much rather sing for her close friends.

“Like singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn’t really the thing that I love,” the star admitted. “There’s no connection. There’s no safety.”

She also added, “It’s also not natural. It’s so isolating because if you’re in front of 100,000 people then you are alone.”

The last major tour that Cyrus embarked on was in 2014 for "Bangerz."

The former “Hannah Montana” lead revealed that she’s focused on making sure she’s happy in her own life right now.

However, even though Cyrus has not taken off on another headlining tour, she has debuted new music – with her latest album, called “Endless Summer Vacation,” which she released in March 2023.

Her single on the album, “Flowers,” which she dropped in January before its release, broke a record, becoming the fastest song to reach one billion streams on Spotify, according to Billboard.

Cyrus is the star of British Vogue next month.

It also spent eight consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 as No. 1, the outlet reported.

In December 2018, Cyrus wed Australian actor , Liam Hemsworth. The two had starred in the 2010 film hit together, “The Last Song.”

The couple divorced in 2019.

However, there is a new love interest in Cyrus’ life – and his name is Maxx Morando, which she spoke about publicly in her Vogue interview.

Cyrus said that she’s been seeing the musician for a few years now.

She revealed that she was set up with him on a blind date.

Miley Cyrus explains why she won’t be touring for Endless Summer Vacation

miley cyrus at 10th Annual LACMA Art Film Gala 2021

Miley Cyrus is letting fans know that she wants to be connected with them in many ways as she continues to create new music.

However, going on tour won’t be one of the ways that the singer connects with them anytime soon, as she’s revealed it’s not something she loves doing as much.

In that Vogue interview, Cyrus said she felt a lack of connection and even isolated when performing for 100,000 people.

Those recent comments led to many of Cyrus’s fans expressing frustration over her refusal to tour on the heels of her newest album.

She’s doubling down on those original sentiments, as she released a statement about not touring yet still wanting to connect with her fans.

Miley Cyrus releases statement about not touring after Endless Summer Vacation

On Wednesday, 30-year-old singer Miley Cyrus posted a statement on her official Instagram, which she captioned “A message from Miley” with a heart emoji.

She shared a screenshot of what appeared to be text written in the Notes app titled “Sent From Heaven.”

“I feel connected to my fans NOW more than ever. When I win, WE win. Even if I don’t see them face to face every night at a concert my fans are felt deeply in my heart. I’m constantly creating and innovating new ways that I can stay connected to the audience that I love – without sacrificing my own essentials,” Cyrus wrote.

She explained performing for the fans had been “some of the best days” in her life and that her not wanting to tour had nothing to do with a “lack of appreciation for the fans.” She added that it comes down to her not wanting “to get ready in a locker room,” which she called “the reality of life on the road.”

Cyrus stated that the “archival looks” she’s been wearing “don’t travel well” and that she doesn’t want to sleep on a moving bus.

“It isn’t what’s best for me right NOW, & if you’ve been following my career you know that I always change and the way about that could too. Love you forever, I’m just on my Endless Summer Vacation,” the singer concluded.

miley cyrus posts to fans about not touring for endless summer

Miley Cyrus had her last headline tour in 2014

Cyrus released her eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation, on March 10, 2023. Among its 12 songs are her hit Flowers which reached a streaming milestone that the singer celebrated in recent weeks.

Flowers arrived in January and was a chart-topper for Cyrus on the US Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks. In the past few months, the singer has also released two more singles, River and Jaded.

However, she upset many fans with her comments a week ago during an interview for her British Vogue cover. Her remarks suggested she needed to put her happiness first rather than always trying to people-please.

“Like singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn’t really the thing that I love. There’s no connection. There’s no safety,” the singer said when speaking to Vogue.

Cyrus’s last major headlining tour was 2014’s Bangerz Tour, a five-leg tour with her visiting the Americas, Europe, and Oceania from February through October 23 of that year. Since then, she’s had the limited-run Milky Milky Milk Tour in 2015 and 2022’s festival tour, the Attention Tour.

“After the last [headline arena] show I did [in 2014], I kind of looked at it as more of a question. And I can’t. Not only ‘can’t,'” Cyrus said before self-correcting herself, “because can’t is your capability, but my desire. Do I want to live my life for anyone else’s pleasure or fulfillment other than my own?”

Based on the singer’s comments to Vogue and her statement on Instagram, she’s decided to put her own happiness and well-being first after years of giving her all to her fans. That said, it appears Cyrus has no plans to stop releasing music and will find other ways to connect with her legions of loving fans.

“It’s been a minute,” Cyrus told British Vogue about touring. “After the last [headline arena] show I did [in 2014], I kind of looked at it as more of a question. And I can’t.’”

Miley Cyrus resumes tour after canceled dates

Miley cyrus says she's 'fighting fit' as she resumes tour in london after canceled dates.

LONDON (AP) -- Miley Cyrus has said she is fighting fit, as she resumed her Bangerz tour in London after a series of canceled shows.

The 21-year-old pop star delayed U.S. dates until August after treatment for a sinus infection went awry, and last week postponed two European shows. Cyrus says that was because she suffered a severe allergic reaction to antibiotics.

But she told reporters she was "the poster child for good health" before performing at London's O2 Arena on Tuesday.

The former child star, who has garnered mixed reviews for her risque adult image, gave an energetic performance complete with crotch-grabbing, erotically tinged choreography and a ride on a giant hot dog.

Songs ranged from Cyrus' hit "Wrecking Ball" to covers of Bob Dylan's "When You Go" and Dolly Parton's "Jolene."

Why Miley Cyrus Skipped the 2024 Met Gala

M iley Cyrus did not give the Met Gala the gift of her presence this year. The singer last attended fashion’s biggest night in 2019 with her then-husband Liam Hemworth. She went big for the event, wearing a black and green striped Saint Laurent minidress for its “Camp: Notes on Fashion” theme.

That same year, Cyrus spoke to ELLE about how she was coming into her power as a woman. She explained the name of her record, She Is Miley Cyrus: “‘She’ does not represent a gender. She is not just a woman. ‘She’ doesn’t refer to a vagina. She is a force of nature. She is power. She can be anything you want to be, therefore, she is everything. She is the super she. She is the she-ro. She is the She-E-O.”

She also touched on why she hates the word “selfish,” particularly when it is thrown at women. “Why are we trained that love means putting yourself second and those you love first? If you love yourself, then what? You come first,” she said.

A few years later, in British Vogue , she spoke candidly about her fame and the public’s perception of her during her Bangerz era in 2013, “I was creating attention for myself because I was dividing myself from a character I had played. Anyone, when you’re 20 or 21, you have more to prove. ‘I’m not my parents.’ ‘I am who I am.’

“I carried some guilt and shame around myself for years because of how much controversy and upset I really caused,” she continued. “Now that I’m an adult, I realize how harshly I was judged. I was harshly judged as a child by adults and now, as an adult, I realize that I would never harshly judge a child.”

Miley Cyrus did not attend fashion’s biggest night.

Miley Cyrus Honors Elvis and Big Mama Thornton with Electric "Hound Dog" Cover

The former  The Voice  coach let loose with the energetic cover.

did miley cyrus cancel her tour

Miley Cyrus used her raspy voice for greatness yet again.

How to Watch

Watch  The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

A decade ago, during Cyrus' "Bangerz" tour, the former The Voice   coach sang a cover of the blues classic "Hound Dog," originally recorded by Big Mama Thornton and famously covered by Elvis Presley.

During her version, she owned the stage with pure energy, showing off her sassy dance moves and revving up the crowd.

Check out her epic rendition here .

This isn't the only time that Cyrus has derived inspiration from The King. For her music video for her 2017 song "Younger Now," she did a spot-on Elvis impression. More specifically, she slicked her hair back and danced with her guitar in a rhinestone jumpsuit, and channeled his puppet show scene from his 1960 film  G.I. Blues .

Cyrus' fondness of Elvis traces back to multiple generations in her family. Cyrus once told Billy Idol that her grandmother was a massive Elvis fan, and had a collection of of Polaroids from standing in line for three days to see him concert back in the '60s.

Meanwhile, Cyrus' father Billy Ray gave his daughter replicas of Elvis’ cars and motorcycles, and Cyrus even had an Elvis shrine that she would say goodnight to every night.

“I think that that maybe could have been dangerous, if we woulda met. It’s probably a good thing,” Cyrus jokingly told Idol. “I would hope that I would’ve been his ex-wife or something, sitting here.”

What to know about "Hound Dog" by Big Mama Thornton — and covered by Elvis

Originally written for and recorded by Thornton in 1953 , it hit Number 1 on Billboard's R&B chart. Presley's 1956 version would go on to sell 10 million copies and spending 11 weeks on the number one position on the U.S. pop, country, and R&B charts (per  American Songwriter ).

That year, Elvis performed "Hound Dog" on  The Milton Berle  Show , debuting his signature hip-shaking dance moves that helped launch his name into the spotlight.

"I think he was getting that attitude from a singer like Big Mama Thornton, who was projecting that in her song,” NYU professor Maureen Mahon told  The Washington Post .

"It caused outrage among parents and censors, but his screaming fans couldn't get enough,"  TODAY   wrote of the performance 66 years later while listing "Hound Dog" as the 17th best Elvis Presley song.

You ain't nothin' but a hound dog Cryin' all the time You ain't nothin' but a hound dog Cryin' all the time Well, you ain't never caught a rabbit And you ain't no friend of mine

Well, they said you was high-classed Well, that was just a lie Yeah, they said you was high-classed Well, that was just a lie Yeah, you ain't never caught a rabbit And you ain't no friend of mine

Well, they said you was high-classed Well, that was just a lie Yeah, they said you was high-classed Well, that was just a lie Well, you ain't never caught a rabbit And you ain't no friend of mine

Live from Paris: Taylor Swift adds 'Tortured Poets' songs to Eras Tour in France

PARIS, France — The Chairman jump-started her tour after a two-month hiatus, and anticipation was high over whether Taylor Swift would incorporate her 11th era album into the Eras Tour set at La Défense Arena on Thursday.

She did and then some.

Swift extended the set list by one track to land at 46 songs. But many changes were made along the way. She added a new era for "The Tortured Poets Department," cut a handful of songs and rearranged most of the eras including combining the sets for "Folklore" and "Evermore."

She also debuted a number of new outfits along the way.

Delivering all the updates were Bryan West, the USA TODAY Network's full-time Taylor Swift reporter, from inside La Défense Arena in Paris, with Swiftie and trending reporter Anthony Robledo assisting from his desk.

We hereby present the minutes from the first Eras Tour meeting in Paris, France.

'Midnights' set follows secret songs

Swift stuck to her original set list for the "Midnights" era by singing "Lavender Haze," "Anti-Hero" and "Midnight Rain." She ended the night with a triumphant rendition of "Karma" as usual.

'loml' is second secret song

Fans got one more taste of "The Tortured Poets Department" when Swift played the heartbreaking song "loml" on the piano during her secret set.

'Paris' is a secret song, of course

Swift started her secret set with "Paris," a bonus song from her "Midnights" album.

'Tortured Poets' set list

Swift played these songs from her newest album:

  • "But Daddy I Love Him"
  • "So High School"
  • "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me"
  • "Fortnight"
  • "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"
  • "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart"

New 'Tortured Poets' set is here

Toward the end of her show, Swift officially launched the long-awaited “The Tortured Poets Department” section of the tour after the 1989 era.

Swift performed the track “But Daddy I Love Him” off the April 19 album for her ecstatic fans while wearing a new beige dress with cursive letters.

A road spiraled down the catwalk in an animation to initiate the era. The background animation showed a deserted road while large cages animated and fell on the road.

“Oh my god you should see your faces,” she sang.

She quickly segued into a brief moment of “So High School,” the beloved track speculated to be about her romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She quickly performed the powerhouse anthem “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me.”

Swift switched to “Down Bad” before seamlessly transitioning into the lead single “Fortnight.” Stage production recreated an asylum that resembled the music video for the song with Post Malone, recorded harmony played concluding the song.

Dancers entered the stage in a marching band style format playing drums as she performed the wrath-fueled song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” Jan Ravnik and Kameron Saunders then revived Swift in a jazzy skit to set up “I Can Do With A Broken Heart,” where she debuted another new outfit.

“The End” text displayed wrapping up the era that’s likely here to stay. Other beloved tracks like “Guilty As Sin” and “Florida!” did not make the cut.

New '1989' outfit

Swift never goes out of Style. During her “1989” set, she debuted a new, sequined outfit of blue and pink. Her sparkly shoes matched with a different colored heel on each. For the bridge of “Blank Space,” the crowd started chanting in Sydney, Australia, “Syd-ney” as a nod to the 1989 World Tour concert movie where Swift would chant the name of the city she was in after hitting a pole with a club two times. Singapore followed the chant and Taylor Nation tweeted they want every city to incorporate the fan-fueled chant. In Paris, thousands chanted “Par-ee,” the French way to say the capital city.

Swift made no cuts to the "1989" set.

Four songs cut from 'Folklore' and 'Evermore'

The new set list cut four tracks from the "Folklore" and "Evermore" eras:

  • "'Tis the Damn Season"
  • "Tolerate It"
  • "The Last Great American Dynasty"

The combined set included eight songs altogether and wrapped up with "Willow."

'Folkmore' set debuts

Swift revealed she merged the 2020 pandemic albums “Folklore” and “Evermore” into one section. She told fans she wrote “Folklore” to represent spring and summer with “Evermore” representing fall and winter in what she always considered sister albums.

“On the Eras Tour we have now reunited the sisters, combined them into one chapter,” she said. “You can call it whatever you want as long as you promise to sing ‘Champagne Problems’ with me.”

'Folklore' set: 'Cardigan' makes the cut

Many fans had speculated "Cardigan" would be cut from the set list. But Swift actually moved it to the top of the "Folklore" set.

Up next: 'Reputation'

Swift kicked off her fifth set with "Ready for It?"

Another surprise: 'Speak Now' era comes fourth

Swift updated her "Speak Now" set with an intro dance featuring Raphael Thomas and eight other dancers wearing flowy purple dresses. She then sang "Enchanted."

Fan favorite track "Long Live" was cut from the set list.

Order of eras changed

After a fairly routine "Fearless" set, Swift altered her concert by including the “Red” era third instead of the expected “Evermore” set. Previously, "Red" came fifth.

With a new shirt that read “This Is Not Taylor’s Version,” the singer performed "22" and showed her audience that they needed to leave any expectations at home.

The relocated "Red" set included the same four songs: "22," "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "All Too Well (10-Minute Version)."

Beflore playing “All Too Well (10 Minute Version),” Swift talked about bringing all of her favorite memories to France. She did her 2019 “Lover” live show here but hadn’t brought a tour to the country since the Speak Now World Tour 13 years ago.“I cannot thank you enough. I’m so moved," she said.

Follow along with set list changes here .

First set list change

Swift cut "The Archer" from her "Lover" set before beginning her "Fearless" set in a silver and black minidress as opposed to her classic gold one. A graphic showed her "Lover" house with a new addition in the attic for "The Tortured Poets Department." Her "Fearless" set remained the same with "Fearless," "You Belong With Me" and "Love Story."

'Je m'appelle Taylor'

In her monologue before playing the song "Lover," Swift said the night would span 18 years of music. Previously, the concert covered 16 years. Get ready for a "The Tortured Poets Department" addition some time tonight.

She confirmed the tour would still go era by era, and also spoke about how Paramore is a band she idolized since she was a teenager. She ended with some French: "Je m'appelle Taylor."

First new outfit

Swift debuted a new, orange bodysuit and jacket for the "Lover" set.

Snippet of 'Tortured Poets' in intro

A snippet of the song "The Tortured Poets Department" was included in the intro music Swift kicks the concert off with. Is she foreshadowing other changes ahead? It seems likely.

Taylor Swift takes the stage

Swift took the stage about 8 p.m. in Paris (2 p.m. ET) to relaunch her Eras Tour in Europe. She kicked it off with a countdown clock and the Lesley Gore song "You Don't Own Me" as usual. Then she began her "Lover" set with "Miss Americana."

Paramore covers Blondie, Talking Heads in Paris set list

At the Paris show Thursday, Paramore energized fans with eight tracks including their cover off the upcoming “Stop Making Sense” tribute album out May 17 featuring artists like Miley Cyrus and Lorde.

Debuting a blond mullet, lead singer Hayley Williams encouraged fans to dance without fear of judgment ahead of Swift’s performance.

“Enjoy your time with Miss Taylor, we will see you next time,” Williams said.

Paramore's set list included:

  • "Hard Times"
  • "Burning Down the House" (Talking Heads cover)
  • "Caught in the Middle"
  • “Brick by Boring Brick”
  • “The Only Exception”
  • “That’s What You Get”
  • “Ain't It Fun”
  • “This Is Why”

Paramore begins their set

At about 6:45 p.m. in Paris (12:45 p.m. ET), Paramore began their set, officially restarting the second year of the historic Eras Tour. Lead singer Hayley Williams sported a new, blond mullet hairdo.

Paramore opens European leg of Eras Tour

The American rock band is joining Swift on her European leg of 51 shows. Paramore also opened the show for two nights in Glendale, Arizona, in 2023. Their setlist then included nine songs:

  • "This Is Why"
  • "That’s What You Get"
  • "The Only Exception"
  • "Still Into You"
  • "Rose-Colored Boy"
  • "Misery Business"
  • "Ain’t It Fun"

Where to watch the Eras Tour livestreams

The Eras Tour is one of the first tours that has been followed, globally, by thousands of fans on digital platforms. Fans dedicate part of their concert experience to livestreaming as Swift performs. Livestream Queen Tess Bohne has spearheaded the "Great War" to find fans going live on social media and broadcasting a custom show to tens of thousands of fans almost every night on her account @tessdear .

On YouTube, user @TaylorSwiftHockeyBro also livestreams the 3-hour show, and on Twitch, @folkleric is a host fans follow.

There is also an app, Swift Alert , that notifies fans who only want to watch certain eras like the acoustic, surprise set. The app also sends out push alerts if there are any major announcements.

What secret songs are left?

For the past 83 shows, Swift has had an acoustic set she customizes every stop with a guitar and piano performance. In 2024, the Eras Tour star added mash-ups of her songs for each stop. Here are the songs she has yet to perform:
