Sam Fischer

“I feel like I’m still having to tell people I’m Australian.” That’s what Sam Fischer told Rolling Stone AU/NZ in late March, two months before the Sydney-born singer-songwriter travelled back to Australia for a tour of his home country.

But Fischer, now based in the US, needn’t have worried, because his Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne shows showcasing to his compatriots what the rest of the world has known for a while now: Guy Sebastian’s collaborator is a heartfelt songwriter who knows how to pen a hit or two.

To celebrate his homecoming tour, Fischer put together a collection of highlights from his Australian travels for Rolling Stone AU/NZ , which you can check out below.

While he’ll surely back in his home country sometime soon, for now Fischer turns his attention to his North America tour, with stops scheduled in Philadelphia, New York City, Toronto, Chicago, and more this month (more information here ).

Program: The Beatles tour of Australia

Program: RN Drive

It was 60 years ago today, in June 1964,  that the most famous band in the history of rock and roll arrived in Australia for the first and only tour down under.

The version of the Beatles that Australia saw in 1964, with their mop top hair cuts, and neat black suits, took the country by storm, but it almost didn’t happen.

In fact it was little more than dumb luck that the Fab Four were ever booked to come to Australia.

The tour was a frenzy of teenage energy, swept up in what was known around the world as Beatlemania.

But did they also spark the beginning of an overdue generational and social shift in this country?

A city of iconic attractions and brilliant beaches, Sydney is a destination you'll never forget.

Sydney is home to must-visit icons like the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, but this Harbour City is constantly evolving. New rooftop bars, theatre shows and designer shops pop up at every turn, and the urban excitement is perfectly balanced by afternoons spent lying on the sand. Plus, with diverse destinations at its doorstep, Sydney is the perfect base for day trips and weekends away.

Sydney/Warrane is home to a number of distinct First Nations groups, spanning from the beaches of Bondi out to the Blue Mountains. Warrane refers to the area now known as Circular Quay and Sydney Cove specifically.

Aboriginal culture is vibrant across the city, and you can experience it on cultural tours, exhibitions and events throughout the year.

When it comes to weather , Sydney is quite predictable and experiences four distinct seasons. The warmer months are commonly from November to February, with the cooler months being March to August.

Even if you are visiting in the cooler months, make sure to pack swimwear, as it is common to enjoy warm, sunny days during winter.

  • High season: Spring and summer (November to February)
