Destination

Bosnia and herzegovina, czech republic, liechtenstein, netherlands, north macedonia, switzerland, türkiye/turkey, united kingdom, bike & boat, multi-activity, vessels & boats, advanced search, explore the cinque terre your way, discover the cinque terre on a walking or cycling tour .

Italy’s Liguria region, also known as the Italian Riviera, is a rugged, crescent-shaped stretch of coastline running along the country’s far northwest.

Here you’ll find the stylish resort town of Portofino; the beautiful ‘Bay of Poets’, Porto Venere; and the famous Cinque Terre (‘Five Lands’), a delightful cluster of coastal villages that reveal an Italy of times gone by. Thanks to geographic isolation and difficult terrain, the villages of the Cinque Terre have been spared the modernising effects of tourism and have retained their unique characteristics.

Ancient walking paths meander through this very special stretch of coastline—a mostly car-free, shamelessly photogenic landscape of mountains swathed in the lush Liguria National Park and dotted with olive groves, terraced vineyards and the candy-coloured villages of the Cinque Terre, clinging dramatically to rugged hills that tumble down to the Mediterranean.

Join one of our guided small groups or ramble through the region at your own pace, discovering the unique beauty of Liguria.

To be able to enjoy and get the most out of this holiday, you must be in very good physical condition and feel comfortable walking on undulating terrain with considerable ascents and descents. Please note that this trip is not recommended for people suffering from vertigo.

How far in advance should I book my trip?

We suggest you book once you have decided your plans , since Portofino , Portovenere and Cinque Terre are quite popular destinations and accommodation reservations should be made as soon as possible to ensure availability.

What walking elements should I bring on my holiday?

The most important thing is that you take everything you need to make your holiday comfortable. For example, comfortable boots , instead of shoes, as these will give you better support during the walks; light clothing and a backpack to carry during the day.

Depending on the time of year you travel cap, sunglasses, sunscreen or waterproof jacket and trousers.

What is the best time of year to travel?

Spring and autumn are the best times to enjoy a landscape full of vibrant colors in all their splendour.

In the summer you can also travel, however, temperatures can become very high. If you decide to travel at this time, we recommend starting the walks early in the morning to avoid the strong midday heat.

“...daily walks were fabulous...”

We’re still adjusting to being back to Canadian reality! We did have a wonderful time. Loved it all, and love Italy!

All the daily walks were fabulous. We especially liked the panoramic walk from Manorola to Corniglia, wow!, and the little town of Corniglia itself. We could not have been happier with the hotel in Portovenere, what a beautiful little town. Vernazza was also very pretty. All the stairs we climbed on those trails allowed to enjoy the local seafood (anchovies 5 different ways!) and we are still obsessed with the Trophi Pesto Genovese.

All in all, we had one of the best trips of our life. We are so pleased that we chose Girosole for this trip, and can’t wait to go back and see oth

cinque terre walking tour

Cinque Terre has a special place in my heart. Hiking through lemon groves and terraced vineyards along the rugged cliffs of the Italian Riviera rewards me every time with new postcard-worthy experiences. The untouched secluded bays of the Riviera with their crystal-clear waters, the colorful perched houses and the fishermen’s village atmosphere in the lovely harbors make me feel at peace and nourish my soul.

Activity Information

Hiking + Walking Level: 3

Terrain: Hilly

The Cinque Terre are five villages on the eastern Ligurian Riviera, nestled between the cliff and the sea. A network of mule tracks, steep vertical paths, and centuries-old staircases overlooking the sea offer the opportunity to hike from one village to the other. This means climbing up and down many steps to reach each town. The Natural Park of Portofino is a protected green area offering a network of routes with moderate difficulty. Overall the terrain is very hilly and the hikes feature coastal single track trails (with a few exposed sections) along with well-maintained inland paths. Please be aware that certain hikes may not be suitable for individuals with vertigo or with knee-related issues. Our Cinque Terre Hiking and Walking Tour is best suited for Level 3 hikers. On selected days, you'll have the option to choose shorter or longer alternatives. Please note that our van cannot accompany you directly on the paths. However, on select days and depending on the group size, it will either be stationed at strategic points along the route or will be at the end of the hike to greet you. We will also take advantage of the local means of transport, such as ferries and trains, in order to offer the best possible experiences.

Packing and Weather

You'll find a beautiful, cool, and less crowded Cinque Terre in the months of September and October. The climate is tempered, favoured by the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains that shelter from the northern winds. The average daily temperature sits around 70°F (21°C) and the highs get up to 77ºF (25°C). You can still do some swimming this time of the year, with an average sea temperature of 72ºF (22°C). September is practically an extension of summer weather, with mostly sunny, warm days. However, rain is always a possibility so we recommend bringing a breathable, water-repellant jacket and shoes, as well as an umbrella. October tends to bring more rain but the trails, town piazzas, and seafronts are far less congested.

For this Signature trip, we suggest a tip for your guides between $240-$300 per guest and, of course, you may choose to give more if your guides made your trip an unforgettable experience. While local currency is preferred, there are other options to make tipping easier. Most guides accept gratuity via PayPal or our staff can help before or after the trip. Gratuities will be divided among the guide team, so feel free to leave your gratuity with whomever you choose at the end of your trip.

Like everything else about your vacation, the Trek Travel team is here to make this experience easier for you. While local currency is preferred, you may also tip through the following options:

Via PayPal (please have this account set up in advance when possible) or with your guest services representative on the phone before or after the trip.

Gratuities will be divided among the guide team, so feel free to leave your gratuity with whomever you choose at the end of your trip.

You cannot put a price on a wow . But you can show your thanks for an exceptional experience.

Visit all five Cinque Terre villages stress-free

Embark on a delightful walking adventure commencing on the western edge of the Portofino Peninsula in the tranquil Camogli village, which can be conveniently accessed from Genoa Airport by train, with the journey taking roughly an hour.

Camogli, located on the Riviera di Levante , is a breathtaking seafront village that is not widely known, making it a hidden gem. Visitors will be captivated by the stunning views, delicious Italian cuisine , and proximity to Portofino. Take some time to explore the local shops or enjoy a stroll along the oceanfront promenade, where you can admire the sight of fishing boats swaying gently on the rocky coastline.

Camogli

Begin the day with an invigorating climb to the Church of San Rocco , marking the start of a scenic walk along mountain paths and through pine forests overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Take a break at the picturesque Port of San Fruttuoso. From here, you can continue the walk or hop on a ferry (at additional cost) to the charming fishing village of Portofino on the other side of the bay.

En route to Portofino, discover Il Faro, a lighthouse perched on the headland of Portofino, or the 16th-century fortress and art museum of Castello Brown. Spend a leisurely afternoon exploring the iconic town of Portofino. Later, catch a ferry back to Camogli , bidding farewell to the vibrant scenery of Portofino and returning to the tranquil coastal retreat.

Portofino

Transfer from Camogli to Deiva Marina, a tranquil seaside town in the La Spezia province. Deiva Marina is surrounded by sprawling sandy beaches and verdant hillsides , making for a spectacular view. From here, embark on a walk through the hills of the east riviera, rewarded with breathtaking vistas of the northern Ligurian coast and Bonassola .

There’s an option to break up today’s walk by stopping in Framura for a long lunch before taking a train to Bonassola. Or you can continue the hike to Bonassola. Conclude the day’s walk with a refreshing dip in the waters of the beach at Bonassola and perhaps indulge in a glass of wine or a spritz in a seafront restaurant before catching the train to Monterosso in the Cinque Terre.

600 meters of elevation gain/loss

Bonassola

This morning, return by train to Bonassola to start your walk along the old railway tracks . As you make your way along the rugged coastline, enjoy the changing terrain as you pass through tunnels and over bridges, leading you into the verdant interior valley of Levanto , with its charming village distinguished by its church spires and towers. Here, you may take a train back to Monterosso to shorten the walk.

After leaving the railway path, continue on mountain paths towards Colla Bagari . Once you reach the ridgetop, you can bask in the panoramic views of the rolling mountains that encircle the “ Gulf of Paradise .” After, descend along olive groves and vineyards to Punta Mesco . Just like that, you will be back in Monterosso for another night.

Walk above the sea for unmatched Mediterranean views

Following a train transfer, embark on a picturesque walk from Manarola , one of the most charming Cinque Terre villages, with its colorful houses clinging to the cliff edge and the azure blue waters below. Take your time to explore the village, maybe indulging in local cuisine .

Via Beccara follows the original path between Manarola and Riomaggiore, with a steep ascent and descent along the mountain path that offers breathtaking views of the Cinque Terre coastline and terraced vineyards. Visit Riomaggiore before taking the train back to Monterosso, where you can enjoy a relaxing evening.

200 meters of elevation gain/loss

Riomaggiore harbor

Begin the day with a train ride to Corniglia , the quietest of the Cinque Terre villages. Take a steep but rewarding hike back to Monterosso, stopping in Vernazza for breathtaking views of the natural harbor and colorful buildings. This village is rich in history, with its original walls, Doria Castle watch tower, and religious sites.

For those who wish to shorten the walk, there’s an option to take the train back to Monterosso from Vernazza. Or you can continue on the panoramic path , taking in more stunning coastal views before finishing the day in the now-already well-known Monterosso.

450 meters of elevation gain/loss

Corniglia village

Take the train to Riomaggiore to start the final walk of the trip. The path leads out of Cinque Terre and into the hills bordering Portovenere , a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has inspired artists and writers like Byron.

Walk along the ridgeline to Campiglia and descend to Portovenere, admiring the brightly colored houses stacked side by side, which once served as a united wall against pirate attacks. You can spot marks and holes that scar them from those days. Visit the Gothic Church of St. Peter , known for its black-and-white stripe, the nearby cemetery, and the stone fortress overlooking the Gulf of Poets .

650 meters of elevation gain/loss

Riomaggiore

After your final night in Liguria, you will depart from Portovenere. You can explore the charming town in the time you have left before catching a bus to La Spezia . From there, you can board public transportation of your choice, either to one of the nearby airports or your next stop on holiday in Italy.

Description

Join our Cinque Terre Walking Holidays and experience the most breathtaking corner of the Ligurian coast with its charming villages amid steep seaside terrain. Among the most picturesque locations on the Italian Riviera, Cinque Terre allows you to enjoy a serene and authentic holiday in Italy .

Starting on the Portofino Peninsula , our walking holidays take you to some of the most iconic landmarks in Liguria and Cinque Terre, including the five picturesque villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore . You will also have the chance to visit Portovenere, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Along the way, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the rugged coastline, walk through terraced vineyards and olive groves and experience the local cuisine and wines , including a Ligurian specialty —  a hot pot of freshly caught steamed seafood.

We understand that planning a walking holiday can be stressful, and our services include making your trip as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We will arrange the accommodation bookings , provide GPS tracks and a personalized written booklet , and offer 24/7 support during your trip.

We can also equip you with the Cinque Terre Train and Trekking Card and all the necessary information regarding train and ferry transfers between villages, so you can focus on enjoying your walk without worrying about logistics.

Local public transportation is extremely well organized and regular, making it the most appropriate way of traveling between the villages aside from walking, as cars have trouble accessing the secluded areas of the coast.

Immerse yourself in the magical Liguria and cross one of the most stunning locations in the world off your bucket list.

Things to know

Our tours are designed to cater to a broad range of people, but some days can be quite challenging, with long distances and significant elevation gain. We aim to minimize this as much as possible while ensuring a high-quality experience. To fully enjoy our tours, you should be accustomed to walking for 4-6 hours, overcoming around 600 meters of elevation gain.

However, Alta Via 1 hut-to-hut hikes and Tour du Mont Blanc are more demanding and require a higher fitness level. On these tours, you may need to hike up to 8 hours per day and tackle substantial elevation gain.

Yes, our hiking holidays are appropriate for children who are physically prepared and have a good balance. However, to guarantee the safety and enjoyment of our young participants, we suggest that they should be at least eight years old to join our tours.

Proper footwear is crucial for our walking tours. We recommend wearing sturdy hiking shoes with ankle support for all our hikes. The terrain can be uneven, rocky, and slippery. Wearing sneakers can be dangerous, especially if you are not accustomed to hiking on such surfaces, as they do not offer enough protection and support. Robust shoes also provide the necessary support when your legs get tired during long hikes.

Yes, we highly recommend booking in advance to secure your spot. The earlier you book, the better the chances are of getting your preferred options. If you book close to the start of the season or during the season, we may not be able to guarantee availability in the hotels and apartments. Therefore, it is best to make reservations as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience.

It is essential to note that accommodations at the destinations of our walking tours are in high demand during the summer season. Therefore, early booking is crucial to secure your preferred type of housing. However, we assure you that we will always try our best to provide you with the most suitable lodging based on your preferences. Rest assured that we will do everything possible to ensure that your stay is comfortable and enjoyable.

Our tours are well-organized, and all the destinations are easily accessible and straightforward to navigate. Therefore, it is unlikely that you will require a guide. Our comprehensive handout will provide you with all the essential information while still allowing you the freedom of a self-guided holiday.

However, if you prefer to have a guide, please let us know , and we will make the necessary arrangements for you.

Most of the accommodations we provide offer vegetarian and vegan options for breakfast. Additionally, you will find no shortage of vegetarian and vegan menus in restaurants during the tour. However, it is worth noting that some mountain huts on Alta Via 1 or Tour du Mont Blanc may not offer vegan meals. In such situations, it is advisable to bring your own food to ensure that your dietary needs are met.

The best time to go on a walking holiday in Italy varies depending on the location you plan to visit. Destinations such as the Amalfi Coast, Cinque Terre, and Sicily are best visited during early spring and fall when the weather is pleasant, and the crowds are fewer.

However, in areas like the Dolomites or around Mont Blanc, hiking is not possible when there is snow high up in the mountains. Therefore, the hiking season in these areas is limited from late June to late September. It is advisable to plan your trip accordingly to get the best out of your walking holiday in Italy.

We can best advise you after receiving a filled-out inquiry form .

While hiking in light rain is manageable, it is important to note that hiking during a storm can be dangerous. It is advisable to schedule hikes early in the day during the summer months to avoid thunderstorms. However, if the weather forecast predicts severe weather, it is best to reschedule your walk for another day or explore different tour options.

Your safety is our top priority, and we will always work with you to find a suitable solution in case of inclement weather.

Most of the destinations for our walking tours in Italy have excellent public transportation. While renting a car can provide flexibility, several locations cannot be comfortably accessed by car. Instead, we suggest relying on public transport to reduce stress and have a more environmentally friendly experience.

We provide all the necessary information for buses, trains, and ferries to ensure that you can reach your destination with ease. By using public transport, we can also reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable travel experience.

Cinque Terry Hiking Trails Map & Guide

Find the best way to get between and enjoy the 5 villages.

The Cinque Terre consists of five well-know fishing villages perched over the sea in the region of Liguria, Italy, and coastal area also known as the Italian Riviera. They have been incorporated into the smallest Italian National Park called Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre , for which you will pay an entrance fee.

This page is mostly about the red trails, the higher trails you may have to take when trail maintenance is taking place on the normal blue trails or when you're ready for a bigger challenge and a higher viewpoint. The blue trails on the map are walked relatively easily, and the information you need will come to you when you buy your park ticket.

As the villages have little or no parking, it's best to reach the Cinque Terre by train . You'll likely change trains in La Spezia if you're coming from other destinations in Tuscany. More on La Spezia below.

Getting to the Cinque Terre by bus or train from Florence

The closest of Italy's "big three" cities is Florence. The distance from Florence to the Cinque Terre Village of Manarola is 79 miles or 127 km. At the time of writing there is one direct train a day. There are buses, but they're more expensive then the current train fare at around $18 or 15 euro. [Check schedules/purchase tickets online]

You can also take a guided tour from Florence .

Notes on Walking the Cinque Terre Trails

As tourist traffic is high on the paths, you should always consult the Official Cinque Terre Parco Nationale site for trail closures and other information. This page indicates trail closures with a red circle. In 2018, the trails from Riomaggiore to Manarola (2a) and Manarola - Corniglia (2b) are closed.

The numbers on the map are trail numbers. Trail markers and maps (like the one you can purchase below) will refer to these numbers.

Notice that each town has its local church. Once you've walked the Sentiero Azzuro, you might find it interesting to walk to one or more of the shrines located above each village. (Note that N. S. on the map stands for Nostra Signora):

  • Nostra Signora di Soviore
  • Nostra Signora di Reggio
  • Nostra Signora delle Grazie e di S.Bernardino
  • Nostra Signora della Salute
  • Nostra Signora di Montenero

The wide Red Path shown in the map is known as the Cinque Terre's High Path or C.A.I. n°1 path. It begins in Portovenere and ends in Levanto, following the spine of the coastal range. There is an 800 meter elevation gain (and loss). You probably shouldn't try to do the whole walk in one day; it's 40 km long and recommended for experienced walkers. The views are superb.

The Blue Trails, Times and Distances to Walk

Riomaggiore to Manarola: 1.2 miles (2km); 40 minutes to walk. Easy

Manarola to Corniglia: 1.2 miles (2km); 1 hour 15 minutes to walk. Easy

Corniglia to Vernazza: 2 miles (4km); 1 hour 45 minutes to walk. Medium

Vernazza to Monterosso: 1.8 miles (3km); 2 hours to walk. Medium (steps) Good views.

How to Get In

Since the Cinque Terre is now a national park, you will pay a fee to walk the trails. You will do this buy buying a Cinque Terre Card. The card comes in two flavors, with and without unlimited train service, and two durations, one or two days. Special discounts are available for families and children.

Get a Cinque Terre Treno MS if you want to combine your trekking with unlimited train use. It will cost about 5 euro more than the Carta Parco card, which doesn't provide access to train service. Check out the list of services supplied by each card by using the button below.

Cinque Terre Card Services

Available For Purchase At:

  • At all railway stations of the Cinque Terre’s villages, and at stations in La Spezia and Levanto.
  • Blue Path trailheads
  • tourist information centers in each village
  • bus drivers in the Cinque Terre

You cannot buy the card in advance

These are the kinds of signs you expect to see. The word "trail" in Italian is sentiero , plural is sentiere . Go left and you'll be taking the trail to the village of Corniglia.

Emergency Calls

Yes, technology has arrived in your little corner of paradise--but these aren't found as frequently as you may need one. Take care. The trails are narrow the the drops are steep.

As you can see, high heels are out. Such a cruel pronoucement, eh? The trails are usually fairly rough, this is no romp in the woods, so wear stout shoes.

Guides for Walkers: Planning a Trek

David Downie, writing at Wandering Liguria , offers delicious descriptions of the Best Hikes in the Cinque Terre :

Riomaggiore to La Madonna di Montenero - "One of my favorite adventuresome trails in the Cinque Terre runs uphill at an impressive angle for 45 minutes starting at Riomaggiore, the southernmost of the Cinque Terre villages. It leads to the monastery of the Madonna di Montenero."

Madonna di Montenero to Volastra and Corniglia - "This is one of the top walks in the Cinque Terre. Above the village of Manarola the same ancient hiking trail that links Riomaggiore to La Madonna di Montenero changes directions and cuts midway across the slope to reach the villages of Volastra and Corniglia."

In fact, if you have a car, starting in Volastra is easier than starting in one of the coastal villages of the Cinque Terre. See: Volastra: Cinque Terre You Can Drive To .

Classic Cinque Terre Coast Walk - "If you have only one day to discover Liguria's Cinque Terre, for sheer hiking pleasure nothing beats the seven-mile coast trail linking all five villages.

Find info on the  Cinque Terre Express Train Service .

Of course, it's trecherous to walk the trails at night, so you might as well settle in for some Cinque Terre Nightlife .

  • Venice and Northern Italy are known for flavorful meats and pastries.
  • On the Italian Riviera, a taste of the region’s famous basil pesto is a must. Delicious seafood dishes are popular along the shore, but true Ligurians favor simple, traditional recipes like minestrone soup and farinata , an unleavened chickpea pancake.
  • Tuscany is world-famous for its wine, oil, sauces, and pasta. Menus favor subtle, lighter pastas and desserts made with nuts, fruit, and honey. Try a dish featuring the region’s Chianina beef, perhaps the most prized breed of cattle in all of Italy. For wine, popular Tuscan reds include Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which are primarily made from the Sangiovese grape. Well-known white wines are also made around the San Gimignano region.
  • For more authentic meals, try local trattorias , small restaurants set away from the main piazzas. A typical Italian meal includes wines and the occasional beer, followed by a few sips of after-dinner drinks like grappa or limoncello .
  • Italy operates on the European standard 220-240 volts and uses Types C, F or L plugs with two or three small, round pins.

Tuscany & the Cinque Terre Cultural Walking Tour

Image Gallery

Drinking in the sunset and the Chianti at our friend Marco's farmhouse, we decided that a Tuscany walking tour couldn't be improved upon. Since he's a staunch Tuscan, he surprised us by saying, "Then you've never been to the Cinque Terre." So we went. They're not far, these five once almost unreachable villages that grow out of rock along the Ligurian Sea. For centuries, a connecting footpath was their lifeline, but for us it's the scenic route into a remote and vibrant coastal culture. Beforehand, we spend three nights in the parts of Tuscany we love best…complete with hilltowns that rise out of silver-green olive groves, homemade prosciutto and potato ravioli and the sunny vineyards of Chianti. Throughout, we'll explore the art history, and savor the food and wine. But in the end, will you prefer walking tours in Tuscany or the Cinque Terre? The good news is that because this trip gives you both, you don't have to decide.

• Gather in Florence, where a short journey into Chianti leads to a private visit and tasting at one of the famed wineries, followed by a scenic walk to our hotel, a historic villa that dates to the 16th century and is owned by a count and countess.

• Walk past silvery olive groves to visit a shepherd who shows how he makes sheep's-milk cheeses…and a chance to sample some of the traditional specialties.

• Follow a footpath in the lovely Chianti hills, to a vineyard walk that ends with a home-cooked lunch and wine-tasting in the private cellars of Castello della Paneretta.

• Spot San Gimignano, fortified with more than a dozen medieval towers, shimmering in the near distance as we approach along a rural footpath.

• Journey along the Apuane mountains to Santa Margherita, where our hotel overlooks the Ligurian Sea.

• Walk to the colorful, isolated villages of the Cinque Terre — Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Rio Maggiore — with time out for shopping or a picnic. (Or skip the walking, and take a little coastal train that runs between the villages.)

• Explore the tiny monastery of San Fruttuoso reachable only by foot or boat after visiting iconic Portofino.

• Cap off an evening in Florence with a memorable dinner at our favorite trattoria, where in one meal we enjoy the whole tapestry of Tuscan cuisine.

• Skip the lines to see Michelangelo's David as part of a guided walk in Florence that provides an insider's view of the famed Renaissance city.

• Wandering the ancient streets to see and learn about Brunelleschi's incredible dome, the Ponte Vecchio, and Piazza della Signoria.

• Graze through San Lorenzo, the Florentine's main market, with its pyramids of produce, olives, breads, meats and more.

The day begins with a short transfer (15 mins) to the Church of San Rocco, to commence the walk along mountain paths and through pine forest alongside the Mediterranean Sea. Pause at the Port of San Fruttuoso to explore the 11th century stone abbey. From here continue walking or alternatively catch the ferry (payable locally) to the fishing village of Portofino on the other side of the bay and spend an afternoon exploring.

On the walk towards Portofino, reach Il Faro, a lighthouse located at the headland of Portofino or up to Castello Brown, a 16th-century fortress and art museum with spectacular vistas. Spend some time in the iconic town of Portofino, which is favoured by the operatic powerhouses, Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli, before taking the ferry back to Camogli. Wave ciao (goodbye) to the colourful panoramas of Portofino, escaping the crowds, and heading back to the idyllic coastal hideaway in nearby Camogli.

Walk to Portofino: 10kms/6mi Ascent/Descent: 587m/791m

There is the option of not walking today and exploring Camogli or taking a ferry to/from Portofino to spend the day there. If you decide to take this option, then please notify us prior to travel, so that the transfer driver isn’t left waiting for you at your accommodation.

Walk through Deiva Marina and into the dramatic landscape of the hills of the east riviera for wonderful views over the northern Ligurian coast to Bonassola, where the mountains meet the sea.

There’s the option to shorten todays walk with a stopover in Framura, to sample a long lunch before taking a train to Bonassola. After time in peaceful Framura the walk continues to Bonassola. Why not finish the walk with a refreshing dip in the cool blue waters off the beach of Bonassola, and perhaps a glass of wine or a spritz in a seafront restaurant before catching the train to Monterosso, in the Cinque Terre.

Walk to Bonassola: 11kms/7mi Ascent/Descent: 577m/587m

The hotel terrace overlooks the historical main street with its many restaurants and shops just a few steps away. The beach and ferry harbour are 2 minutes’ walk away as well as the trail path n.2 leading to Vernazza. All bedrooms have a TV, mini bar, and air conditioning. There is WiFi access in public areas including the sun terrace where you can relax on loungers with a coffee or glass of juice.

Hotel Amici

Ideally located in the centre of Monterosso, 5-minutes’ walk from the sea. Bedrooms have a TV and air conditioning, and some have a balcony. Don't miss the lovely terrace garden with sea views and loungers where you can sit and amongst the lemon and olive trees accompanied by the lovely scent of rosemary.

Take a train to Bonassola this morning to begin the walk along the old railway tracks recently transformed into an even, easy walking path. Enjoy an array of terrain as the path travels through tunnels, over bridges, and along the rugged coastline into the green interior valley of Levanto. The idyllic village of Levanto’s skyline is pierced by church spires and towers. You might like to end your walk her and spend time on the sandy beach before taking a train back to Monterosso.

Leaving the railway path behind and heading onto the mountain paths. Upon reaching the ridgetop at Colla Bagari, take a moment to absorb the sweeping views of the rolling mountains surrounding the “Gulf of Paradise” and the Cinque Terre villages that the walk will be heading through over the coming days. Arriving at Punta Mesco, descending along olive groves and vines to Monterosso, with its large sandy beach and calm waters. Why not take a refreshing paddle to cool your feet after a good day’s walking.

Shorter walk to Levanto: 4kms/3mi and Ascent/Descent: 72m/60m

Walk to Monterosso: 11kms/7mi Ascent/Descent: 588m/593m

Alternatively, for anyone not wishing to walk today why not spend the day relaxing on the beach, a seafront bar, or wandering around the colourful street in Monterosso, the first of the Cinque villages explored on this trip.

You are assured the warmest of welcomes at the Hotel Marina. Hotel Marina has 25 rooms. The hotel lies in a quiet area, 100 meters from the sea, the beach and the beginning of the hiking path to Vernazza in the wonderful scenery of the Cinque Terre. All the 25 rooms of the Hotel Marina are air-conditioned and come with a flat-screen TV and minibar. The en-suite bathroom is fitted with a shower and includes towels and a hairdryer.

Hotel Amici is perfectly located in the centre of Monterosso, 5 minutes from the sea. They offer a comfortable stay with a delicious morning breakfast. Don't miss the lovely garden with sea views and terraces where you can sit and enjoy the lemon trees, olive trees and the lovely scent of rosemary.

With the included Cinque Terre Trails & Rail Card in hand it’s time this morning to hop on the train, sit back and enjoy the views over the sea on the way to Manarola (trains depart about every 30 minutes). Manarola is widely thought to be the most charming and beautiful of the Cinque Terre villages with its colourful buildings clinging to the cliff edge, the terraced green hillside above, and the azure blue waters colliding with the rocky coastline below. There are two possible options today. If you are taking the shorter option then there is ample time to explore the village and perhaps have lunch in one of the many restaurants and cafes found here.

The longer of the walks today provides wonderful sweeping sea views as you walk from Manarola to Corniglia on the 'Via dell' Amore' (Lovers’ Lane). The start of the walk is a climb but then it levels out as you walk along the cliff tops between the villages.

The shorter walking option Between Manarola and Riomaggiore uses the original path linking the villages. Although they are quite close together there is a mountain separating them, so the trail although short in distance is a steep ascent and descent including many stone steps. Thanks to the high position the Via Beccara path does afford amazing sea views over the dramatic Cinque Terre coastline including a bird’s eye view of Manarola and Riomaggiore. The path climbs pass the terraced vineyards along the mountainside. This is the most technically challenging of the walks on this tour and is not suitable for anyone with a fear of heights or suffering from vertigo. We also won't recommend it for anyone with ba knees.

After time to explore Corniglia or Riomaggiore, take the train back to Monterosso.

This evening, dine “al fresco” at one of the many delicious restaurants lining the piazza and historic centre, especially for a hot pot of freshly caught steamed seafood, a Ligurian specialty.

Walk to Corniglia: 6kms/4mi Ascent/Descent: 378m/387m

Walk to Riomaggiore: 2kms/1mi Ascent/Descent: 191m/194m

Alternatively, for anyone not wanting to walk today there’s the choice of spending time in Monterosso or using the included Cinque Terre Trails & Rail Card to ride the rails and explore Manarola, Corniglia and Riomaggiore this way instead of doing the mountain walk.

After breakfast, take the train to Corniglia for a steep, but well worth it, walk back to Monterosso. Corniglia is the quietest, and least crowded of the Cinque Terre villages, making its backstreets a delight to wander through before beginning the walk.

Follow the path as it goes up-and-down to Vernazza, the most perfect picture postcard of the villages. This fortified village is the only natural harbour in the Cinque Terre and is still used by fisherman with their boats bobbing in the protected waters surrounded by the elegant, colourful buildings. Some of the original village walls and the Doria Castle watch tower remain today, which were used to defend this valuable resource. This historic fishing community is also home to Santa Margherita d’Anticochia Church, the Sanctuary of our Lady of Regio, and the Convent of the Reformed Fathers of St. Francis. There is the option of leaving the walk here and taking the train back to Monterosso.

The walk continues to follow the panoramic path from Vernazza to Monterosso giving yet more wonderful seascape views along the way. On arrival back in Monterosso cool down with a tasty gelato.

Shorter walk to Vernazza: 4kms/3mi and Ascent/Descent: 449m/472m

Walk to Monterosso: 8kms/5mi Ascent/Descent: 449m/472m

NOTE: There has been a landslide so walking along the coast between Riomaggiore and Monterosso is not possible. Track repairs are currently done and are forecasted to be completed in July. Since early May 2024 the section between Corniglia and Monterosso has opened again, so you can complete the above walks. As an alternative walk you might undertake a circular walk from Monterosso ("Walking through the Jurassic").

Circular walk Monterosso: 9kms/6mi  Ascent/Descent:  500m/515m

To begin the final walk, take the train back to Riomaggiore to walk out of Cinque Terre and into the hillside bordering Portovenere. The town is another UNESCO World Heritage Site and artist haven that’s inspired painters, musicians, and literary greats such as Byron and D.H. Lawrence.

Walk to Colle del Telgrafo following the ridgeline to Campiglia and descend to Portovenere with its brightly coloured houses. Stacked side-by-side, these houses, once served as a united wall aimed to withstand attacks from pirates (look closely and it’s possible to still see the holes and marks that scar its sides) and are now one of Portovenere’s iconic treasures.

Visit the black-and-white striped Gothic Church of St. Peter, its nearby cemetery, and the stone fortress overlooking the Gulf of Poets.

Ascent/Descent: 634m/653m

Alternatively, depending on the day of the week, it is possible to travel by ferry from Riomaggiore to Portovenere instead of walking.

Hotel Paradiso

Hotel Paradiso is overlooking the sea, with a view to the island of Palmaria, the Gulf of Poets and the open sea. From the two terraces of the restaurant you can enjoy the pleasure of Ligurian cuisine with panoramic views over the coast. The comfortable rooms, all facing the sea, are furnished in a friendly and cosy style. There is also free WiFi available.

Torre Porto Venere

Situated between the old city walls and the promenade, the 16th century building of Torre Porto Venere offers a unique view over the most evocative village of the Gulf of Poets.

Once used for military purposes, the round-shaped building offers our guest a 360° view, quite rare in village like Porto Venere, where houses were strategically built in rows to form the typical frontage. The recent renovation was carried out in full respect of traditional materials and colors, restoring the original splendor of this massive building. Each room is unique, set apart by the unusual shape of this historic building, the architectural and furnishing solutions, and the tailor-made lighting. Yet, they all offer the same high-quality standards. From the quality of sleep to the choice of fabrics, from the selection of materials in rooms and bathrooms to the unmistakable design – the rooms feature high quality, simplicity and robustness.

The Hotel Restaurant Belvedere was built at the end of the last century and has been completely renovated. It gives the tourists a quiet stay on the sea in a very nice frame of liberty style. All rooms have a beautiful view and all comforts. Large sitting room.  The rooms, with magnificent view from the balconies, indoor luxury and modern comforts, high quality service and the beautiful panoramic terrace are the distinctive characteristics of the hotel.

Depending on travel arrangements, we suggest adding an extra day to spend more time exploring Portovenere’s labyrinth walls, taking a boat to nearby Palmaria Island, or unwinding by the sea.

To depart from Portovenere there is a local bus or taxis to La Spezia. From here take a to Genoa, Pisa, or Florence airports.

This trip has a carbon score of 15kg per person per night, meaning it’s one of our best trips! For comparison, a carbon count of 15kg is equivalent to 88.5 candy bars. Other Information

This trip is perfect for those who want to explore this lovely, rugged part of the Italian Riviera on foot. It is graded moderate, with an average of 10-11 kms walking per day along coastal and mountain trails.

There is walking included each day, however if a more leisurely pace is desired then since there are multiple nights spent in Camogli and Monterosso it’s possible to sit walks out and have time to rest, visit a local beach, and sit in a café and watch the world go by. It’s also possible to shorten several of the walks by jumping on local ferries or trains. Perhaps also consider adding an additional night in Portovenere at the end of the holiday to spend time exploring the historic and colourful fishing town.

There are many elevation gains and losses which need to be taken into consideration. The traditional paths between the villages often include sections of stone steps on these ascents and descents, which can be hard on the knees, so we would strongly recommend taking walking poles and perhaps knee supports if needed. It’s best ahead of time to do some practice walks including stairs and ascents and descents like those you will experience on the trip whilst carrying your day bag.

There are sections of the walks along cliff edge paths, some of which are unfenced and only wide enough to walk along in single file. This trip may therefore not be ideal for those with a fear of heights or vertigo sufferers.

As part of this holiday a Cinque Terre Three Day Train and Hiking Trails Card is included for use on days 5 to 7. You will need to purchase train tickets locally for the train transfers to/from Bonassola for the walks on days 3 and 4, as this is outside the validity of the rail card. Train tickets are approximately €2.40 per person per way. If you decide to shorten any of the walks on days prior to day 5, then you will need to purchase a train/ferry ticket for the additional transfers. The Cinque Terre Card includes unlimited train travel on the La Spezia - Cinque Terre - Levanto railway line, on regional trains in second class; access to the hiking paths from Monterosso to Corniglia; and use of the bus services within the park area.

Slower Adventures | Where walking and cycling meet easy-going exploring, our Slower Adventures are the perfect combination. Most days are filled with picturesque journeys with some free time to dive into the destination and experience the people, local food and culture as you go.

Multi Centre Walking | With a mix of loop and point-to-point walks stay 2 or 3 nights in one place which offers the chance to slow down and really explore a destination.

Solo Travellers, Families with Teens

The minimum age for this tour is: 12 Years

This trip includes walking each day and is graded moderate overall. The terrain varies from coastal paths to rolling mountain trails making for a pleasant mixture. Most days can be shortened by taking a train or ferry to the next overnight destination and it’s possible to skip a number of the walks if you prefer some time to explore locally and relax.

Daily walks average around 10-11 kms, following dirt paths, paved roads, forest trails and coastal paths. There are several ascents/descents involved and some of the route while walking from village-to-village within the Cinque Terre encompass stone staircases. To get the most from this trip you should be comfortable walking on undulating terrain with many ascents and descents. Please be advised that this trip may not be appropriate for unstable walkers or people suffering from vertigo as there are sections of narrow cliff tops paths with unfenced edges.

Included in this trip are hand-selected, charming accommodations. We’ve carefully chosen properties so that you can enjoy every minute of this trip on the Italian Riviera and Cinque Terre.

Additional Nights

It’s easy to request to add on an extra night at any location during this itinerary. Perhaps consider adding an additional night in Portovenere at the end of the holiday to spend time exploring the historic and colourful fishing village and relax after completing the walks. Please notify us at the time of booking should you wish to add extra nights.

Single Rooms & Solo Walkers

This trip is based on double occupancy (two people sharing a room with one bed). If separate rooms are required, then a single supplement is payable. If a twin room is required (same room with two separate beds), please notify us at the time of booking so we can request this option. This trip is available to solo walkers.

Breakfast is included each morning and consists of a traditional European style breakfast ranging from coffee, tea, yoghurt, granola, meat, cheese, and baked goods. In some cases, a hot dish (eggs and pancakes) will be served or offered á la carte.

Peak Season Availability

As Portofino, Portovenere, and the Cinque Terre are very popular destinations, we suggest booking as soon as possible to ensure availability for specific dates.

In Camogli there are two big festivals that happen annually. These are great times to visit to see the event, but do mean that you have to book early to get the accommodation booking as space fills up fast, also the accommodation prices may be higher, and there will be more people in the village and possibly on the trail too at this time. The festivals are:

Sagra del Pesce - always the 2 nd Sunday in May.

Festa Stella Maris - always the 1 st Sunday in August.

Time of Year

The springs months of mid-March, April, May and June offer warm sunshine, fewer crowds, and pleasant walking conditions. May is when most wildflowers are coming into bloom. The autumn months of September and October are also a favourable time of year, boasting cooler weather and a striking landscape made up of autumnal colours. July and August are good months to go but can be very hot for walking and therefore aren’t best suited for everyone. You will have to start early to miss the heat of the day and carry a lot of water (additional weight) with you. Although the towns and villages are buzzing at this time of year which is great to see, and you can take a cooling dip in the sea.

For the easiest and most convenient method of travel, we recommended flying into  Genoa  Airport and taking the direct train to Camogli. Genoa has an airport with flights from international and national destinations. From the airport, take the local bus (or taxi), to the central train station (Brignole Station) for a direct train to Camogli. Total journey time is around 1 hour.

Pisa  and  Florence  also have airports with flights from international and national destinations, including central train stations with rail networks to Genoa, for catching direct trains to Camogli. Visit  Trenitalia  for times, prices and booking. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office or online prior to departure. A private transfer from Genoa, Pisa or Florence to Camogli can be requested. Please let us know at the time of booking if you would like to add this option (additional costs apply).

Either take a taxi directly to La Spezia Train Station or the local bus. The bus runs regularly from Portovenere to La Spezia and takes approximately 40 minutes. Bus stops are located near the harbour and at various locations around Portovenere. It stops in the centre of La Spezia, which is around 5 minutes’ walk to the train station. La Spezia Central Train Station has departures to Genoa, Pisa, Florence, or other onward destinations in Italy. Visit  Trenitalia  for times, prices and booking. On arrival in Genoa Brignole Train Station, catch a local bus or taxi back to the airport. A private transfer from Portovenere to La Spezia Train Station can be arranged. Please let us know at the time of booking if you desire to add this option (additional costs apply).

At Macs Adventure, we work in partnership with many luggage transfer providers who set a limit on how many bags/suitcases they will transfer per person, and also the weight of the bag/suitcase.  Your booking includes transfer of 1 bag per person.  It is very important that you read the luggage information specific to your tour before departure. If you do not adhere to these limits, there is a great possibility that you will be charged locally both for extra bags or if they are too heavy. This limitation can be a challenge, especially as airlines generally have limits that are higher. However, our luggage providers have reasons for these limits (usually due to the Health and Safety of their employees), which we must respect.

One main bag of up to 20kg per person will be transferred from each accommodation to the next.

Our pre-departure information pack has detailed advice and a kit list on what to take with you to Italy. This includes warm and cold weather gear, hiking boots, and lots of other useful bits and bobs.

It is a requirement of booking this tour with Macs Adventure that you have suitable travel insurance which covers you for the activity, emergency evacuation, and hospital care.

To get the most from this trip you should be in good physical shape and comfortable walking on undulating terrain with many ascents and descents. Please be advised that this trip may not be appropriate for unstable walkers, those with a fear of heights, or people suffering from vertigo. Please read the ‘Is it for me?’ section of the web page and the itinerary for further information in order to ensure this trip is the right fit for you.

As Portofino, Portovenere and the Cinque Terre are very popular destinations, we suggest you book as soon as your plans are finalised to ensure availability for specific dates.

You will need good walking shoes/boots, comfortable walking clothes, a day pack, and dependent on when you are travelling; waterproof jacket and trousers, and hats/gloves etc. Also you might want to bring poles for some roccks climbs. Our information pack has a list of all equipment to bring on your trip.

7 Best Things To Do in Cinque Terre

1. sunbathe at monterosso beach.

Monterosso has the longest stretches of beaches of the five villages. Monterosso Beach really is the best beach in Cinque Terre. These beaches are located in both the new part of the village as well as in the old town area.

Both sections offer traditional beaches where you can rent umbrellas and a lounging chair OR find a free section of beach where you can spread out with your own beach towel, chair and umbrella.

2. Explore All Five Towns of Cinque Terre

If you plan to visit the coast and are looking for the best things to do in Cinque Terre, you really ought to plan to visit all of five towns of Cinque Terre. Each one is a little different from the others and offers a variety of sightseeing options.

3. Hike from Monterosso to Vernazza

If you plan to hike during you visit, I recommend you plan for an early start, especially in the summer months. The best time to hike in Cinque Terre is during the morning hours. You'll find fewer crowds, cooler temperatures, and less humidity.

Signage at the beginning of the hike makes it clear that hiking in flip flops can result in a fine. The family of four in front of us, three of whom were wearing flip flops, turned around at the pay station to avoid being fined. Getting fined is NOT one of the best things to do in Cinque Terre!

The narrow path is not easy with steps going up from the very start. There are many fitness levels, ages and agility levels of tourists who hike this trail. The hike is 2.2 miles with an elevation gain of 705 feet.

Take time to enjoy the journey. Stop every so often to take a few pictures and selfies. The views are amazing and as you get closer to Vernazza, you see the brightly colored iconic village. The colorful homes, the boats, the people swimming…all fantastic.

The hike takes about an hour and a half for the average hiker. You'll hike past quaint homes and terraced farms of olive trees along the way. Be sure to bring plenty of water and wear sunscreen.

4. Enjoy Delicious Food at The Best Restaurants in Cinque Terre

Did you know that the region of Cinque Terre is the birthplace of pesto ? The recipe for pesto calls for grinding basil (which flourishes in the temperate seaside climate) with pine nuts, garlic, two varieties of cheese (half parmigiano cow cheese and half pecorino sheep cheese), and olive oil. Pesto is eaten with pasta, in lasagna or as a spread for your bread.

One of the fun things to do in Cinque Terre during your visit is to take a pesto-making class in nearby Levanto.

You can also enjoy all types of pasta during your stay, anchovies and fresh seafood, focaccia bread, pizza, and of course... gelato.

Be sure to make dinner reservations in advance. All of the tourists will be looking for the best places to eat in Cinque Terre. Just like you!

La Cucina Italiana recommends these Top 10 Favorite Restaurants in Cinque Terre and close by:

  • Ristorante Miky, Monterosso
  • La Cantina di Miky, Monterosso
  • Agriturismo Missanega, Monterosso
  • Causa Persa, Monterosso
  • L’ancora della Tortuga, Monterosso
  • Osteria a Cantina de Mananan, Corniglia
  • Da Aristide, Manarola
  • Rio Bistrot, Riomaggiore
  • Fuori Rotta, Riomaggiore
  • Agave, Framura (just three stops from Monterosso on the local train)

5. Savor the Gelato Italiano

You can't come to Italy and not try gelato. Italy is also the birthplace of this delectable treat. Perhaps it should be #1 on your list of things to do in Cinque Terre ... everyday.

You may be entranced by the brilliantly colored gelato, but if you are looking for an authentic-tasting gelato , follow these tips:

  • Look for subdued earthy colored gelato indicating the gelatos are handmade, fresh and contain natural flavors and ingredients such as fruit and nuts
  • Brightly color gelato is full of chemicals to preserve them (the same goes for the fluffy-looking gelatos in the cooler that are likely mass produced elsewhere)
  • Check the banana gelato. If it is bright yellow, move on. If it has a grayish color, it was most likely made with real bananas
  • Look for the sign "fatta in casa" . This means that the gelato was made fresh and in-house

Gelato Italiano

For some of the best gelato Italiano along the coast, try Alberto Gelateria in Corniglia or Gelateria Vernazza .

6. Enjoy Market Days

If you love to wander hand-in-hand with your sweetheart through local markets while eating gelato Italiano, search for vintage treasures, and find fresh produce and goods, there are a number of markets in and around the villages of Cinque Terre .

  • Vernazza Market on Tuesday
  • Monterosso Market on Thursday
  • Friday Market in La Spezia (about a ten minute train ride from Riomaggiore)
  • Food Market in La Spezia - open every morning until 1 pm (except Sundays)
  • Friday Market in Chiavari (about one hour from Monterosso)

If you are staying in a vacation rental and cooking your own meals, you may wish to stop by the La Spezia food market first.

7. Book a Sunset Boat Tour of Cinque Terre

Chris and I found many sunset boat tour options during our stay in Monterosso as we walked along the harbor. I imagine in the summer months that you would need to book in advance to guarantee your romantic evening cruise when planning for a boat tour of Cinque Terre.

As we traveled to Cinque Terre close to the end of the summer season, we were able to book a romantic evening boat cruise the day before. We were the only ones on the cruise and enjoyed asking our captain questions and getting in close to the villages for unobstructed photos and the best views in Cinque Terre.

How Do You Pronounce Cinque Terre?

The correct pronunciation of Cinque Terre is  cheen-kweh teh-rreh .

Listen to the pronunciation a few times to get it down.

Overview: The Five Towns of Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre was added to the  UNESCO World Heritage List  in 1997 and became a National Park on October 6, 1999.

Cinque Terre features terraced agricultural land and colorful homes that seem to be built one on top of another as they cascade down rugged cliffs along the Mediterranean Sea.

Approximately 4,000 residents call the five towns of Cinque Terre home, however the area is an attraction for around three million tourists every year. People arrive for day-trips, weekend getaways, family vacations , friend trips, the gelato Italiano, and for a little sunbathing along the coast, especially Monterosso beach.

Things to Do In Monterosso al Mare

Chris and I chose Monterosso as our home base for our three-day getaway. For us, it was the best place to stay in Cinque Terre. We arrived on the afternoon train from Milan and were immediately enamored with the views of the coast and Mediterranean Sea.

As we exited the train station with our bags in tow, we walked right out to the waterfront area of the "newer" section of Monterosso. I couldn’t help but take pictures .

Known for the great beaches , if sunbathing is on your wish list of things to do while visiting Cinque Terre, Monterosso beach is the perfect option. It also makes is one of the best places to swim in Cinque Terre.

We found the best place to stay in Cinque Terre in a vacation rental right in the heart of the town.

Vernazza Things To Do

Vernazza is a popular village with a little something for everyone.

This village boasts the only natural harbor along the coastline of the five villages. Beyond a small area of beach for sunbathing and playing in the water, there are plenty of places and restaurants to do a little people watching.

Hiking from Monterosso to Vernazza is one of the best things to do in Cinque Terre if you want to see the amazing vistas of each of the villages.

Things To Do In Corniglia

Escape many of the crowds as you climb the 382 steps up to the village. Not to worry, there is a bus that will transport you up the hill as well if that many steps are daunting.

Corniglia is the only village that does not have waterfront access. One thing you CAN do is wander through the narrow streets to see picturesque viewpoints, visit tourist shops, and find something fresh and tasty to eat.

Things To Do In Manarola, Italy

Manarola offers fabulous views .

Although there is not a real beach in Manarola, locals and tourists love it for some of the best deep-water swimming around.

Like the other villages, Manarola is all ups and downs, with steep narrow alleys to explore.

Best Things To Do In Riomaggiore

Riomaggiore is the largest of the five towns of Cinque Terre. It is the most southern village and is closest to La Spezia. It offers plenty of fine dining opportunities and a great nightlife .

If you have seen Cinque Terre in pictures or postcards before, you have most likely seen the village of Riomaggiore.

How to Get From One Village to Another

Taking the Cinque Terre Express train is the best way to travel from one village to another. The Cinque Terre Express runs approximately every 20 minutes from mid March until 1st of November.

Trekking Card

If your plan for things to do in Cinque Terre involves hiking between the villages, you can purchase the Cinque Terre Trekking Card  which gives you access to all  footpaths .

Please note * The only trails that require the trekking card (all other trails are free) are:

  • From Monterosso to Vernazza
  • From Vernazza to Corniglia

Be sure to check the website for up-to-date information on whether or not trails are open to the public. Some trails are currently closed.

The  Cinque Terre Train Card , on the other hand, allows you to access the hiking trails AND gives unlimited access on the Cinque Terre Express trains on the Levanto—Cinque Terre—La Spezia line . Some discounts are available.

The Cinque Terre Cards can be purchased at:

  • All train stations
  • Cinque Terre Tourist Information Points (including on footpaths)

  • Do you love to play in the water, wander through amazing alleyways, and hike? Vernazza may be your best bet.
  • Would a quiet village with amazing sea views be your priority when planning things to do in Cinque Terre? How about Corniglia ?

It’s actually quite hard to find in the cinque terre! Our local super market only carries soy milk.

But Mae ca (a breakfast place) on via Roma in monterosso by the bank serves it with their coffees perhaps you can ask to buy a carton
