Situated about 4 kilometres from the heart of Gandhinagar, Adalaj Stepwell can be easily accessed from any part of the city. This stepwell radiated the talent and craftsmanship of the Indian architects from the past. The Adalaj Stepwell was created in such a way that the temperature inside the well would always be at least six degrees cooler than the outside. Adalaj Stepwell:

Built in the year of 1498 and situated at a distance of 3 to 4 kms from Gandhinagar this marvelously opulent structure was created with an aim of curbing the water crisis which was persistent in the Adalaj village which is situated nearby. Serving the purpose of a Stepwell there are a series of stairs which lead down till the ground water. The overall architecture of this structure is impeccable and extremely well made. The Stepwell represents some of the most finely created illustrations which were done by the Indian architects and engineers of that age. The entire place is extremely tranquil and a visit there is a great way to ease your mind. When it was first built the Stepwell also used to serve as a peaceful and a spiritual stopover place for the resting purposes of exhausted pilgrims. One of the most unique features about this place is that you will experience a sudden and an eventual drop in the temperature, due to the presence of a water source making the place extremely comfortable to explore even during a hot and scorching day.

Adalaj Trimandir:

Situated at a distance of 20 kms from the main city of Ahmedabad close to the village of Adalaj, this impressive temple pans over a massive area of 40,175 sq. ft. this temple complex is surrounded by neat and lush gardens which contains several benches and a glorious fountain in the centre. The unique feature about this temple lies in the fact that the 3 main lords of Hinduism is placed together in one platform. These lords are of different beliefs which are Jainism, Vaishnav and Shaivite sects. It’s the second-largest dinosaur egg hatchery in the world with a vast enthralling botanical garden and camping attractions for its visitors. Recreating the era of the beast that ruled the earth before humans were born is one of the top attractions among children and adults.

Kankaria Lake – is located in the southeastern part of the city in the Maninagar area and was revamped in 2007 for the better. The lake is surrounded by many public attractions such as a zoo, toy train, kids’ city, food stalls and entertainment amenities. In the last week of December, the Kankaria festival gets lit up for a week with many cultural, artistic, and social activities organized during the carnival. Akshardham Temple – is also known as Swaminarayan temple and is a grand, minutely carved stone structure serving as one of the foremost pilgrim destinations attracting many devotees to swarm and seek peace and spiritualism. The main attraction is the gold-plated idol of Lord Swaminarayan, the chief deity of the Akshardham temple. The 7-foot-tall idol is in a seated posture with his right hand raised in ‘Abhaya Mudra’. The beautiful temple of Akshardham is the essence of tourism in Gandhinagar and tourists should definitely not miss the unique laser water show scheduled from time to time at the temple.

Dandi Kutir Museum – was opened to the public in January of 2015. Dandi Kutir means ‘Salt Mount’ and symbolizes Gandhiji’s Dandi March to break the Salt Act.  It is one of India’s largest museums inspired by the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and signifies the powerful idea of equality taught by him. The museum is equipped with hi-tech technology which is a major attraction for the visitors - like 3D AV and 360 -degree shows, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s memoir. Also, the museum showcases several Gandhi paintings and remnants for history enthusiasts. 

Rani Roopmati Mosque - is an ideal example of the amalgamation of Hindu and Mughal architecture.  The mosque was built in the 15th century in memory of Rani Roopmati, the Hindu wife of the Sultan of Ahmedabad.  The mosque is huge, standing 32 feet high, and is embellished with beautiful windows and flowers. Puneet Van – is a botanical garden in sector 19 in Gandhinagar which is developed and maintained by the forest department of the state. Gandhinagar ( Gujarati : ગાંધીનગર Gāndhīnagar , Hindi : गांधीनगर Gāndhīnagar ) is the capital city of the Indian state of Gujarat and the twin city of Ahmedabad . Often hailed as the greenest capital in India, it is fast emerging as a desirable destination for real estate for the Gujaratis, with neighbouring Ahmedabad spilling over.

It is in a green farm belt, and houses major Gujarat Government organisations and administrative buildings, along with famous educational institutes like Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), National Institute of Design, National Institute of Fashion Technology and the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology. Kalol is most populated tehsil (taluka) of Gandhinagar.

After being separated from Maharashtra, the state of Gujarat had its government offices in Ahmedabad temporarily. This town was created to set up the government offices through which the state can run. All the bureaucrats travelled by public transport from Ahmedabad to serve the government offices (or, Sachivalaya - Gandhinagar has Old Sachivalaya and New Sachivalaya). Some still do so. New Sachivalayar surrounds Vidhan Sabha or State Senate Building). From its start is a town of bureaucrats. It is now booming with tourism. It is one of the greenest cities in the world and has many high cader high schools and professional teaching institutes. New infrastructure projects by the Gujarat Government are attracting people from whole state and the country. The population is now getting diverse with a mix of professionals, government service personnel, college students. Non-Gujarati community from all over India is increasing like never before. Gandhinagar is becoming a symbol of cultural and economic hub of Gujarat with a lot of foreign investments and multinational companies and businesses.

As a twin city of Ahmedabad, most of the options will be via Ahmedabad as the services will be more frequent. Although Gandhinagar has its own railway station and GSRTC bus depot (Pathik Ashram).

By plane [ edit ]

Gandhinagar is served by the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) International Airport ( AMD  IATA ) which is in the area of Hansol, North Zone, Ahmedabad . The airport is expanding with permissions for many international air lines being given and development of new terminals.

There is an international direct flight to New York City/New Jersey (Newark) via Mumbai served by Air India. Non-stop connections are available for Muscat, Kuwait (Kuwait Airways), Dubai (Emirates), Doha Qatar (Qatar Airways), Sharjah (Air Arabia) and Singapore (Singapore Airlines).

Ahmedabad is well-connected domestically via daily flights from Mumbai , Delhi , Indore , Chennai , Bangalore , Goa , Kolkata , Jaipur , Pune , Coimbatore , Hyderabad and Nagpur with connections to several other Indian cities and towns. Flights to Kandla and Surat have also been launched. Most domestic airlines have a flight in and out of Ahmedabad.

The international terminal is not open 24 hours, and may not open until the late afternoon. Similarly, as at other Indian airports, you will likely be denied entry until approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight even if the terminal is open. Therefore, connecting between a domestic and an international flight will often involve waiting outside the airport with the throngs of touts for several hours.

From airport to city:

• By road : The Hansol area where the airport is lies near the river banks, between the areas of Shahibaug and Naroda that give access to Ahmedabad. For travelling to Gandhinagar, is accessible through the road from Airport Circle (in direction of Naroda from the airport): Take left from Airport Circle onto Indira Bridge and keep straight onto the inter - city highway, crossing roundabouts at Tapovan Circle and Koba Circle, ending at Indroda Circle ( CH 0 ), the starting point of Gandhinagar (from South).
• By auto rickshaw/taxi : An auto rickshaw or a taxi should cost roughly ₹200 and ₹300 respectively. Save yourself considerable hassle by using the prepaid booth, or, better yet, arrange a pickup through your hotel.

By train [ edit ]

For more frequent services, the best option is Ahmedabad Railway Station ( ADI ) in Kalupur (Ahmedabad), which is connected with Mumbai (500 km), Vadodara Jaipur, Jodhpur and Delhi with trains several times a day. Daily connections (or multiple weekly connections) are also available to several other major cities including Bikaner, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, Udaipur, Indore, Pune, Bhopal, Kolkata, Nagpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Bhubaneswar, Puri, Chennai, Nagarcoil, Thiruvananthapuram , Bangalore and Coimbatore. Direct trains are also available for Jammu, Patna, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Kolhapur, Goa, Mangalore, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram , Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Another railway station of Ahmedabad, Sabarmati Junction ( SBI ) in northern neighbourhood of Sabarmati, and is closer to Gandhinagar, but has fewer services than the main railway station of Kalupur (Ahmedabad).
