Tyler Gregory Okonma better known by his stage name Tyler, The Creator, is an American rapper and record producer from California.

Tyler showed an interest to music from an incredibly young age, at the age of seven, he would take the cover out of an album's case and create covers for his own imaginary albums including a track list with song times before he could even make music. At fourteen, he taught himself to play the piano and music became a constant in his ever changing home life, he attended twelve different schools over his twelve year education.

On December 25, 2009, Tyler self released his first album entitled 'Bastard' which went on to receive rave reviews from critics, including Pitchfork Media who placed it at #32 on their top 100 albums of the year list. He followed this up with 'Goblin' which secured him a one album deal with XL Recordings. His next album 'Wolf' was released in 2013 and was produced solely by Tyler, featuring guest appearances from Frank Ocean, Mike G, Domo Genesis, Earl Sweatshirt, Left Brain and Hodgy Beats.

Tyler has found himself at the centre of negative media attention for his use of homophobic slurs, frequently the use of the epithet faggot in his lyrics and on social media. He personally denied the accusations of homophobia, stating, "I'm not homophobic. I just say faggot and use gay as an adjective to describe stupid shit," and, "I'm not homophobic. I just think faggot hits and hurts people". He appears to understand very little of the impact of his derogatory use of language. However Tyler, The Creator was the first to openly show support for fellow Odd Future member Frank Ocean after he revealed he had a relationship with another younger man. The young rapper has managed to collect a number of nominations at the MTV Music Video Awards, along with acclaim for his solo discography and work within Odd Future despite numerous controversies surrounding his lyrical content.

Live reviews

I have been a fan of Tyler for a long time, as well as the whole group of OFWGKTA, and seeing him live was something I had on my bucket list. I went in with high expectations for his show, already knowing of how much energy and enthusiasm he puts into his live performances. What I got at The Forum went above and beyond anything I could have hoped for. The crowd was amazing, knowing every song and shouting and yelling along with unrivaled amounts of energy. Tyler was just as, or even more, energetic and knew how to work the crowd perfectly by interaction, be it between moments talking about random things or talking about his music and singing. I was blown away by the fact that at least twice he called to stop the song just to start it again because he loved how into it the crowd was and wanted to see it again. Of course we, the crowd, loved it and drained our lungs out with every lyric. I've seen the Arctic Monkeys, Sleigh Bells, Banks, Pendulum, Wolf Alice and others and can honestly say Tyler was the best overall. Everyone exited the venue with shirts soaked in sweat and with cracking voices, with grins on their face from having experienced something they'd never forget. If you like Tyler, or by extension OFWGKTA, you have to see him live if you get the opportunity, you can never anticipate how godly his live performances will be. I will definitely be waiting for his next visit to see him again.

The show started almost on time with a short DJ warm up by Taco and quickly two other Odd Future boys - Tyler himself and Jasper Dolphin - entered the stage. Tyler performed both old and new songs, mostly his upbeat hits and in between songs he'd converse with the crowd in his own down to earth way. Tyler is an amazing performer, he knows when the crowd gets too hot and needs a break or when we need a little bit more jumping to liven up the mood. The concert was intimate despite it being sold out because of Tylers genuine and unique personality and he almost makes it sound like he's speaking to a bunch of friends rather than a bunch of sweaty fans. The concert lasted for about an hour and a half. I was front row on the ground and it was wild at times and very crowded, so if that's something you do not like; go to the balconies instead (the people I was with chose to do that and says it is more calm) because with an audience mostly consisting of semi-drunk teenage boys, it is bound to go a bit crazy at times. But as I mentioned, Tyler and the two other boys were very aware of how we as an audience were feeling and you felt safe. To sum it up, it was a very intimate and very much how you would expect it to be, if you have followed Tyler as a fan for a while concert and definitely in my top best concerts ever. A must for fans of him and OFWGKTA.

To be quite honest, I am not the most hardcore fan of Yellowcard and I only know a few of their earlier songs. Regardless of that, however, I actually had quite a lot of fun at their gig at Fuji Rock Festival 2013 last summer. I think their strong fan base all over the world and how they can really rally up a crowd is one aspect that makes this band so fun to watch live. The fans really get wild and stay wild for the entire concert as soon as the band walks on the stage. The crowd just crowd surf each other and go absolutely nuts and it's an entertaining sight! The bands music is extremely loud and you can hear it throughout the entire venue and I feel that Yellowcard represents a lot of what rock is about nowadays. It's about making music that allows for everybody Iistening to come together and enjoy the music and the festival vibe and I think Yellowcard did a good job of that in my opinion despite not knowing much about them! Yellowcard is definitely a great concert for those who want to go apeshit with the influence of rock!

The doors opened at 20:30.

The timetable said the show will start at 22:00 but taco's set started at 22:00.

The bass and sound setup was good and wasn't to hard.

When Tyler came on stage, Everybody went crazy. There where moshpits the hole show.

The biggest moshpit was at the last song Cherry Bomb.

Tyler did it pretty good on stage. Sometimes he had to take a break because his astma. But Taco and Jasper continued the song if that happened.

Me and my friend visited the movie he organised in the afternoon so we got priority for the show. This was good because it wasn't that busy at the merchandise store . When the other people came in, I'm sure I couldn't get the Cherry Bomb 6 panel. After the show they sold out.

Because the delay of the show we missed our last train so we spend our night at the station. Maybe thats a tip for the next time. Do the show a bit earlier!

But after all it was amazing!

Amazing experience... Taco was an amazing DJ doing a great job of hyping the crowd up. Then Vince came out and killed it just a great set. the stage design was like no other the rotating screens were really cool and it was nice that they put timers up so we knew when Vince would come out. Tyler's performance was just amazing he performed for 2 1/2 hours and he really is a great performer, he performed both old and new songs there wasn't a favorite of mine that he missed. The stage design was so cool with a huge tree for Tyler to stand on. Tyler really cares about his fans he sang happy birthday to this one dude which was so sick. The show was sold out so 2,400 people were all singing the words to his songs which was just amazing the best concert experience I have ever had I have to go see him live again.

Okay, so straight up, the venue kinda sucked. Tyler was playing The Forum, in London. The venue itself was pretty decent, big floor space and actually a decent amount of room. The security were pretty cool too. Only problem is, before Tyler goes on, they turn off the fans keeping the place cool, so for the next two hours, it is boiling, like people are walking around soaked in sweat. BUT TYLER was amazing. The videos on Youtube and junk do him no justice, he was awesome. Taco came on and DJ'd to get everyone hyped which was awesome. Tyler was talking to the crowd and it was wild. He played all his decent songs, playing stuff from all three albums, and everyone fucking loved it. The crowd were sick too, everyone in GOLF shit, 10/10 performance. (Wish he had played Sandwitches though)

Man Oh Man is Tyler AWESOME OR WHAT? I can honestly say that Tyler fans are the most energetic fans I've ever seen, me included haha. I've never been in a mosh pit that was this crazy before, and I loved every second of it. You will not regret going to see Tyler because he is just that awesome. This was my first time seeing him in concert and I was super happy at how approachable and funny he was. He knows how to work the crowd and how to get literally every last person on their feet and stomping the roof off of the building. I can’t wait until he come the SF again. Tyler I’m waiting for you!!

P.S - HE BROUGHT TACO AND JASPER!!!!!

I loved every min of his performance.. I loved and appreciated the re-verb of ''tell these black kids they can be who they are'' means so much to us. And I know this isn't his favorite album and It didn't come out as this ''star studded'' album. But there's no one couldn't have said it better than Tyler at this time. So I want to thank him for that. Maybe he will finally be able to score a movie that would be so !!!!

From a guy who’s grown up with Tyler and used his music to get through rough patches and hard times after waiting 8 years to see him live, I can honestly say it was the greatest thing I’ve ever experienced. I’ve never been happier in life than I was that night, stood from my seat the entire time and went word for word with Tyler himself to all the songs he performed Is something I could only dream of. I plan on going every year for as long as he continue touring from now on.

Rex Orange County opened with dope beach vibes then later joined in on "Boredom". After Rex finished, Tyler carried the show alone reflecting the energy of the whole crowd. He is a lightening storm on stage. He said that one of his goals on this tour is to see the crowd dance and his beats strongly reflect that sentiment. If you find yourself lucky at one of his shows, do yourself a favor; wear sneakers and don't bring your drink into the mosh pit, you're in for a treat.

LIVE: Tyler the Creator tickets, prices and extra dates for London's Brixton Academy

The rapper arrives in the UK in September for two shows

  • Updated 11:25, 24 MAY 2019

tyler the creator tour uk

Tickets for Tyler the Creator's three shows at the Brixton Academy go on sale today (24 May).

The rapper will play songs from his fifth album, 'Igor' on September 16-18 in London.

Tickets are now available from, with the best availability on September 18:

  • Ticketweb here
  • See Tickets here
  • Ticketmaster here

He was previously supposed to perform here in 2015 as part of the Cherry Bomb tour with sets at Reading and Leeds Festivals lined up.

However he was banned by then Home Secretary Theresa May, claiming his lyrics encouraged 'violence and intolerance of homosexuality'.

Both stalls and balcony tickets are priced at £50.

  • Extra date added! 10:32

All three dates sold out

It looks like all three dates at the Brixton Academy are sold out.

Over the next few days more could be added - The xx did seven nights at the venue back in 2017 - as demand has been very high this morning.

Congrats to any fans who got tickets and fans who missed out can set up an alert on Twickets.

Although right now there’s probably none listed, once it gets closer to the date more are likely to be put up on the site so you can receive alerts to your phone or email when one becomes available.

The fan-to-fan resale site means tickets can only be listed at face value or less so you won’t be ripped off.

Tickets still available

If you’re after tickets there’s still availability for stalls standing for the show on Wednesday September 18.

Go to Ticketweb here to get them.

Extra date added!

Due to huge demand a show has been added on Wednesday September 18 but be quick!

For tickets go to:

Tyler, the Creator

Tickets on resale sites already

Frustratingly tickets have already been listed on resale sites including Viagogo less than 15 minutes after tickets going on sale.

Sellers have posted tickets for as much as £125 for stalls standing, that’s more than double the standard price.

It also looks like they’ve sold on Ticketweb and See Tickets with no word of extra dates yet.

But keep an eye out on social media for any announcements.

Best availability for Tuesday's show

Over on Ticketweb fans are getting stuck in a virtual queue, with the best availability on Tuesday September 17.

tyler the creator tour uk

So don’t give up until they’ve announced that tickets are completely sold out.

Meanwhile Ticketmaster and See Tickets say that they’re ‘unavailable’.

10 minutes until tickets go on sale

You’ve got 10 minutes until tickets go on sale for Tyler, The Creator’s two Brxiton Academy shows.

These fans are pretty excited

Fans of Tyler, The Creator are pretty excited for his return to London this September:

Tickets go on sale at Ticketmaster here or See Tickets here or Ticketweb here .

You can expect some of this

Earlier this week he played ‘Igor’ in full as part of a surprise show in L.A.

So fans can expect some of this at his Brixton Academy shows:

If you want to be there then tickets go on sale at Ticketmaster here or See Tickets here or Ticketweb here .

Special guests?

The shows are in support of his recently released fifth studio album ‘Igor’.

It marked his first release in two years and features guest vocalists Solange, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Kanye West, Santigold, La Roux, CeeLo Green, Slowthai and Pharrell.

Tyler also runs the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival festival which features a lot of his collaborators and friends on the lineup.

So fans can expect to maybe see some surprise guests pop up at his first UK shows as it’s not rare to happen at a Tyler show.

Ticket prices for Tyler, The Creator

Both stalls standing and balcony unreserved seats and standing are priced at £50 plus a booking fee.

Make sure you have your card details ready and if you have a Ticketmaster account log into it ahead of tickets going on sale, or if you don’t then sign up now and enter all your personal details.

This way you’ll get through to securing your tickets quicker, beating the timer, as the websites are all likely to be slow due to demand.

You can get them from 10am from:

Tyler, the Creator

First UK shows in years

These upcoming Brixton Academy shows mark his first UK live dates in years.

In 2015 the rapper was stopped from entering the country by then home secretary Theresa May, claiming his lyrics encouraged ‘violence and intolerance of homosexuality’.

He was then unable to complete appearances at Reading and Leeds Festivals and the UK leg of his Cherry Bomb tour due to the ban.

Last weekend he was supposed to play a surprise gig in Peckham but it had to be pulled due to huge overcrowding issues.

So his return to London is expected to be popular and tickets in high demand.

They go on sale at 10am from Ticketmaster here or See Tickets here or Ticketweb here .

Welcome to our live blog where we’ll be updating you with everything you need to know about Tyler, The Creator tickets for his O2 Brixton Academy shows.

We’ll be letting you know about availability and any extra dates.

Tyler, The Creator makes a triumphant return to the UK

By Olive Pometsey

When Theresa May resigned from her role as prime minister earlier this year, there was one celebrity response that elicited more excitement than most. "Theresa gone, I'm back," penned Tyler, The Creator to his eight million Twitter followers, to the tune of 131,000 likes. In 2015, the rapper had been banned from entering the UK by the then home secretary, for offensive music he had released in 2009. But just days before May's resignation, he'd returned to London to announce a last-minute, surprise show in Peckham via a selfie of him stood outside Buckingham Palace. Crowds swarmed to the gig's venue, Virgil Abloh apparently got caught in the mob, and then the police shut the whole operation down. Organising spontaneous comeback shows is apparently a little trickier when you have millions of fans who have been waiting to see you perform live for four years. Not long after, in a bizarre moment of cultural and political serendipity, Tyler announced that he would be playing three dates at Brixton Academy in September, sold them out, and May tearfully handed over the responsibility of Brexit to someone else. GIFs of the ex-prime minister's awkward dance moves soon spread across Twitter like wildfire.

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Whether he liked it or not, it felt as though much of the energy at his opening night at Brixton Academy was fuelled by his audience's political angst, as thousands of fans armed with bumbags piled into the show ready to mosh and shout some bad words at the top of their lungs. It didn't take much to set them off. Flickers of movement behind the silver curtain that served as his first backdrop incited the kind of isolated squeals that you'd expect to hear at a blockbuster boyband stadium concert, and when he finally emerged on stage and stood still, hunched over in a yellow suit, to perform "Igor's Theme", the crowd's word-perfect sing-a-long was almost as impressive as Tyler's ability to switch between moods and personas. One moment he'd be motionless, limp with indifference as he embodied the "Igor" protagonist of his latest album, the next he'd be flailing around the stage in a manner that looked as though it would be working every muscle group.

It took only one song before the crowd started to shout, "Fuck Theresa May!" – a chant that has been encouraged by Slowthai at his own gigs over the past year – in response to Tyler saying, "Looondooon, must have been four years or some shit." He stood there, dead still once more, grunting occasionally as the audience's antihero assistant Igor while the chant enveloped the entire venue. "I got three nights of this shit, huh?" was his eventual response, before he launched into "I Think". Later, when he referenced the two albums he released during his ban, Cherry Bomb and Flower Boy , the crowd instinctively booed. "It's cool now, we're past that," he reassured his fans. The boos for May faded out, but did not disappear entirely.

Although he didn't perform any material from Bastard , the mixtape that was cited as the reason behind his ban from the UK, Tyler, The Creator did not shy away from the kind of risqué work that has put him at the centre of controversies over the years. His 2011 track "Yonkers" received one of the biggest cheers of the evening, as the crowd gleefully relished the opportunity to threaten to "stab Bruno Mars in his goddamn esophagus" as loud as they could. Still, offset by some of his more recent, softer work on Flower Boy and Igor, these moments only felt like small pockets of aggression within the set. Lightning visuals and the harsh blue lights of sirens would occasionally illuminate the stage and the crowd would rage but, before long, everything returned to pastel hues for songs like "See You Again". At times, Tyler would even substitute frantically throwing his body around for a moonwalk across the stage.

By the end of the set, Tyler's apathetic persona began to wear away and he thanked his lawyers and "everyone who helped [him] get in tonight" for, one can assume, facilitating his return to the UK. "It's been four fucking years since they let my black skin in here," he said, having previously stated that he believes Theresa May's ban was racially motivated. A lot can happen in four years, as the UK now knows, and Tyler's musical evolution over that time was what stood out the most at the show. Threatening and vulnerable, manic and then controlled, Tyler, The Creator affirmed himself as one of the most complex and interesting rappers working today. Patience is a virtue and, for his legion of fans in Brixton last night, good things came to those who had long awaited his return. Theresa's gone, Tyler's back and, if you can get your hands on a ticket, there's still two more opportunities to see him perform while he's in the UK. Is it just me, or does the sun seem to be shining a little bit brighter today?

Tyler, the Creator forced to cancel first UK gig in four years

The rapper, banned from entering the country in 2015, said impromptu London show got ‘too rowdy’

The US rapper Tyler, the Creator , returned to the UK on Saturday, four years after he was banned from entering the country, only to see his impromptu gig cancelled when legions of fans turned up to watch him perform.

The rapper, whose given name is Tyler Gregory Okonma, was banned from the UK in 2015 over the content of his lyrics, at that time the Home Office alleged the songwriter “encourages violence and intolerance of homosexuality” and “fosters hatred with views that seek to provoke others to terrorist acts”.

Huge crowds turn up to watch Tyler, The Creator in London – video

The Guardian understands that the ban, which was originally imposed for three to five years, no longer applies and he is able to enter the UK legally.

Okonma, who was forced to cancel performances in the UK, responded with incredulity when the ban was imposed, saying the lyrics the government had cited were from six years ago. His manager, Christian Clancy, mounted a defence of his client, arguing Okonma had “evolved and grown out of that”.

The rapper posted a video and picture of himself outside Buckingham Palace, in London, on Twitter on Saturday. He was dressed in a pink and red suit and, in the video , appeared to be shadowboxing. He said he would perform at the Bussey building in Peckham at 3pm on Saturday.

LONDON; IGOR; 3PM; WILL UPDATE YOU LATER WITH LOCATION pic.twitter.com/bscofwIxta — Tyler, The Creator (@tylerthecreator) May 18, 2019

But before 3:30pm, he tweeted to say “cops cancelled it” due to the crowds who arrived to watch him perform, including some “gate climbing”. However, a spokesman for the Metropolitan police said while officers were present on the ground for public safety, it was the venue and not the police force that cancelled the gig. Images posted on social media saw huge crowds in the streets around the venue.

Okonma is one of a number of rappers who to have been banned from the UK. Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg have both been temporarily excluded from the country.

However, objections to Okonma entering the UK were based solely on the content of his lyrics. The Californian rapper was forced to cancel the Australian leg of his world tour in 2015 after a feminist group launched a petition calling for him to be denied a visa to enter the country. The group, Collective Shout, cited objections to lyrics that included references to rape and violence against women, as well as his behaviour on earlier tours.

When he was booked to play Glastonbury in 2013, a similar petition was launched in the UK accusing him of “normalising, and even glamorising, rape in his rap lyrics”. It attracted 753 signatures but the rapper went on to play his set with no disruption. That same year, again in Australia, Tyler was reported to the police after a derogatory tirade against the campaigner Talitha Stone , a member of Collective Shout, which was campaigning against his appearance in the country.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “We do not routinely comment on individual cases.”
