Synopsis [ edit | edit source ]

Appearances [ edit | edit source ], featured taxa [ edit | edit source ], production and release [ edit | edit source ].

Journey Into Time , sometimes referred to as A Journey Into Time , was a 16 mm film reel originally produced in the USSR by Victor Shneyderov [1] (or Schneyderov). [2] Soon afterwards, it entered distribution in the United States courtesy of Sterling Educational Films, one of many companies which distributed educational short films for classroom use. [3] [4] [5] [6] The production is attributed to Viking Films. [3] [4] [1] Both color and black-and-white versions of the film were produced and distributed.

Many details of the production and release are unknown or ambiguous. For example, both Israel Berman [2] and Gilbert Mack [1] have been identified as narrators for the film. Some guidebooks and film catalogs cite a 17-minute run time, [4] [6] though other sources (including an available recording) indicate a 14-minute run time. [3] [5] [1] Likewise, the release year is unclear, varying from 1958 [1] [5] [6] to 1959 [2] or 1960, [3] depending on the source.

Doctor Who - Journey into Time radio play (lost radio program pilot; 1966-1967)

Doctorwhocard.png

The show's current title card.

Status: Lost

Journey into Time was the pilot to a planned radio show based off of the British Sci-Fi TV series Doctor Who .

A pilot episode was made and a further 52 episodes were planned. However, the series did not receive further production and the pilot never aired.

The show was to be a collaboration between Stanmark Productions and Watermill Productions. The only confirmed cast member is Peter Cushing, who was to play the titular main character. Many would think Cushing would play Dr. Who, the human inventor from the two non-canon 1960s Doctor Who movies: 1965's Dr. Who and the Daleks and 1966's Daleks-Invasion Earth 2150A.D. made by AARU Productions, however, this is unlikely as advertising made no mention of the movies, just the TV show. Also, Peter Cushing wasn't the original choice; the original choice was Boris Karloff, who turned down the role.

The pilot featured a character named Mike, who went to Secondary School with a girl named Susan, finding out that she and her grandfather, Dr. Who, were humans from the far future where time travel was possible and they had taken the TARDIS, Dr. Who's time machine, back to the 1960s and enrolled Susan in school after many of their adventures through time and space. They were ready to continue their adventures, but Susan wanted to take Mike along. Mike agrees to go and they go back to the American Revolution. In the end, Mike wants to go home but it's revealed that Dr. Who and Susan can't control when or where the TARDIS lands.

Although the pilot itself has never surfaced, the pilot's script, written by Malcolm Hulke, was found in the BBC archives in 2012 by Richard Bignell. Richard Bignell remains hopeful to find the pilot itself, claiming that at least two copies are known to have been made. The script is publicly available in the third issue of the fanzine Nothing At the End of the Lane. In 2012, after the script was found, Beermat Productions(formerly Bandril Productions) produced a fan adaptation. It is no longer available on YouTube, but can be found on the Beermat Productions website.

In this bizarre B-movie mashup, an android named Frank and his creator must save Earth from an invasion force of alien Martians. Though limited by its low budget and often laughable special effects, the film has found a cult following due to its outlandish concept and haphazard storytelling. Its unforgettable mix of science fiction, horror, and camp ensures its status as a unique and entertaining curio of 1960s cinema.

While visiting New York City's American Museum of Natural History, four youngsters are especially fascinated by the many exhibits devoted to the earth as it existed during prehistoric times. After seeing all the displays, the boys go rowing in the Central Park lake and discover a cavern concealed by trees and bushes. Their curiosity aroused, they row into the dark cave and enter a river that takes them back 500 million years to the beginning of time. Strange flora and fauna surround them as they encounter giant mammals similar to the ones they had seen only hours before in the museum. After numerous adventures, the boys fall asleep and awaken in the museum.

Hamilton Hall Has a Long History of Student Takeovers

The Columbia University building, which opened in 1907, has been occupied several times by student activists.

Hamilton Hall, the building at Columbia University that protesters occupied early Tuesday morning, has been occupied several times by student activists over the past half-century.

Here are some of the notable moments of student protest at the building.

The building, which opened in 1907 , was the first that hundreds of students seized in April 1968 during protests over the Vietnam War, racism and Columbia’s plans to build a gymnasium in nearby Morningside Park. Students barricaded themselves inside, preventing the acting dean, Henry S. Coleman , from leaving his office for one night.

As demonstrators used furniture to keep Mr. Coleman inside, protesters who were part of an African American student group asked white students in the building to leave. That created a separate protest for Black students, as the white students went on to demonstrate in other buildings on campus.

A week later, the police entered the building through underground tunnels and cleared the students . Police officers trampled protesters , hit them with nightsticks and dragged some down concrete steps. More than 700 people were arrested.

During another round of protests in May 1968 , about 250 student protesters occupied Hamilton Hall again. The police removed them from the building about 10 hours later.

Students also locked themselves in Hamilton Hall, which was named after Alexander Hamilton, the first treasury secretary of the United States, during antiwar protests in 1972 . Protesters took furniture from classrooms and offices to use as barricades. They also locked doors with chains as administrators told them to leave.

The police cleared the building of protesters after about a week, again by entering through an underground passage. No one was injured or arrested. But the university said that the students would be prosecuted for criminal trespass and contempt of a court injunction that had forbidden the occupation of Columbia buildings.

In 1985, protesters padlocked and chained Hamilton Hall as they demanded that the university divest from companies that were doing business in South Africa. The university was reluctant to comply.

Three weeks later, the students ended their blockade just before a judge ordered them to reopen Hamilton Hall. While there were no guarantees of any change in policy, the students viewed the protest as a moral victory. Later that year, Columbia’s board of trustees voted to sell all of the university’s stock in American companies doing business in South Africa.

In 1992, students blockaded Hamilton Hall in protest of Columbia’s plans to turn the Audubon Theater and Ballroom, where Malcolm X had been assassinated in 1965, into a biomedical research complex. The blockade lasted less than a day.

Students demanding the creation of an ethnic studies department at Columbia went on a hunger strike and about 100 protesters occupied Hamilton Hall for about four days in 1996 .

The university did not meet their demand at the time, but agreed for the first time to provide a physical space for Asian and Hispanic studies programs. Three years later, the Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race was established.

Our Coverage of the U.S. Campus Protests

News and Analysis

The most recent  pro-Israel counter demonstration was at the University of California, Los Angeles, home to large Israeli and Jewish populations. More are planned in the coming days , stirring fears of clashes.

An officer whose gun went off inside a Columbia University building fired it accidentally  as the police were removing pro-Palestinian protesters from the campus, the New York Police Department said.

A union representing academic workers said it would file unfair labor charges  against the U.C.L.A. and potentially walk out over the handling of protests this week.

Exploiting U.S. Divide:  America’s adversaries have mounted online campaigns to amplify  the social and political conflicts over Gaza flaring at universities, researchers say.

A Year Full of Conflicts:  The tumult in Bloomington, Ind., at Indiana University where large protests have led to dozens of arrests and calls for university leaders to resign, shows the reach of the protest movement .

Seizing Hamilton Hall:  Some of those arrested during the pro-Palestinian demonstration at Columbia were outsiders  who appeared to be unaffiliated with the school, according to an analysis of Police Department data.

A Collision Course:  Desperate to stem protests that have convulsed campuses across the country , a small number of universities have agreed to reconsider their investments in companies that do business with Israel. But how?
