  • Only the profiles with the highest compatibility scores will be displayed to you.
  • You’ll be able to anonymously message other CabinMates to create a match.
  • Once an actual match takes place, as Cabinmates you’ll choose a cruise off the App.
  • Our CruisesToClick.com site has hundreds of cruises on the most popular cruise lines
  • You’ll be able to place a “hold” on a cruise at the best price without any immediate payment required
  • We’ll then manage the cruise reservation for two CabinMates from the inception of the booking to the completion of the sailing.

The idea behind CabinMate originated with the challenges we at Lorraine Travel had in handling single passengers that needed roommates on large cruise groups. The matching process was a very time consuming, manual chore for our staff and passengers had little control over how they were paired-up. Add to that, how singles would be turned off by the idea of a cruise when they'd be faced with paying the "single supplement; we set out to create a solution.

Cabin Mate is an app-based “roommate finder” for singles to find an ideal roommate for any cruise. The idea of enabling singles to find each other online to split the cost of a cruise bodes well with the “sharing economy”. Today, so many things beyond homes & rides are being shared. CabinMate will provide single travelers a more immersive, authentic, and affordable travel experience. Using CabinMate will afford solo, like-minded travelers the opportunity to make new relationships and friendships, establishing a social network for adults from multiple generations who enjoy cruise vacations.

Coming Soon, SplittingIt, an app for singles to share hotel rooms at 5 Star hotel! Stay-Tuned.

I was originally going with my husband, but have since decided to divorce yet would still like to go on the trip and avoid the single supplement.

Any suggestions on how to go about this?

' class=

Nope, sorry ,

Ask your friends not a bunch of strangers.

cruise cabin mate finder

heres the thing.

you really wont know how well you will get along with the other person.

i would personally rather pay the singles supplement and not have to deal with someones bad habits and or they yours.

Sorry Karen, this is a forum about travelling Solo, that is alone.

And as the others have said, you would be taking an almighty risk on having the trip destroyed by a random stranger. Asking on a world wide, unmonitored forum is worse than standing in the street and shouting out. At least then you get to see who wants to join you, their gender, state of cleanliness and so much more.

But good on you for going ahead and getting on with life. A new experience can put a distance between a bad experience and the start of the rest of your life.

cruise cabin mate finder

I would pay the supplement and then find some way to have the ex payback for ”his" portion. Think creatively.

I have recommended Connecting:Solo Travel Network as have some others on this forum. There is a small initial joining fee and at least some sort of monitoring of the group. There is a post board where you can post this request. I will admit I signed up more for access to companies with no single supplement deals, but have since gone on to organizing my own travels and plans. Yours is the type of request that frequently pops up on the message board, however, so consider it. Do try to meet the other person for a few days travelling together beforehand, however.

Are you able to cancel without penalty?

My parents go on a lot of river cruises and have done quite a few with Viking, but they ALWAYS book last minute and get really good deals. This suggests to me they often have spare cabins for last minute deals- in which case if you leave it until closer to the time to book, I reckon your chances of getting the single supplement waived would be pretty good.

Or have you tried asking them to waive the single supplement? If you imply you might otherwise cancel, they may do this. SIngle supplements are not written in stone- everything is negotiable, it just depends how good a position you are in to negotiate.

I would start by looking within my family and my circle of friends. If that failed, then I'd look seriously at whether I could afford to pay the single supplement. If not, then I'm afraid I wouldn't go. I would never share with a stranger or relative stranger. I've been on holiday with friends and we've fallen out by spending too much time together.

Amazing Deals: How to Find Discounted Luxury Cruises

C ruising is an excellent way to explore more of the world, and for some travelers, it's especially ideal. They can see multiple destinations during their vacation and feel less overwhelmed about the trip's logistics because most of the planning details are handled already. Cruise deals are an excellent option for cruisers who want to avoid overpaying for travel.

Standard cruise lines aren't the only brands that promote cruise deals. You can book discounted luxury cruises if you prefer more luxury amenities while traveling. Are you ready to set sail? Here are four tips to help you find luxury cruise deals that won't drain your bank account .

Alert: highest cash back card we’ve seen now has 0% intro APR for 15 months. Learn more here.

1. Act fast to lock in the lowest prices

Luxury cruise lines typically offer the best prices to those who book early. As more travelers book, prices rise due to greater demand and reduced cabin availability. Last-minute cruise deals exist, but there are no guarantees that you'll be able to score a last-minute deal -- so don't delay. If you want to book a specific luxury cruise, make your reservation as early as possible to get the best price.

2. Browse cruise deal websites for promotions

If you want to book a luxury cruise without the high price tag, it can be beneficial to dig into websites that aggregate cruise deals. These websites highlight the latest cruise sales to help travelers like you get the best deal. Here are a few cruise deal websites to consider:

More : Our picks for the best credit cards

  • Cruises.com
  • CruiseDirect
  • Cruise Critic

3. Consider booking an entry-level cabin

You may also be able to save money another way: check the pricing for entry-level cabins. You can enjoy the many benefits of sailing with a luxury brand without having to spring for a premium cabin with a higher price tag. You'll enjoy the same food, amenities, and service.

Entry-level cabins are smaller than premium cabins, but generally, the cabins on luxury cruise ships are much bigger than those found on ships for more mainstream lines. The best part is you'll still be treated like a VIP -- but you'll get a better deal on the price of your cruise.

4. Look to your favorite luxury brands for sales

Luxury cruise lines aren't known for having frequent sales, but you can still score a deal if you find a sale. If a specific cruise isn't doing as well, a luxury brand may run a sale to fill more cabins. Follow luxury cruise lines on social media and sign up for email newsletters so you don't miss out on upcoming sales that could help you stretch your vacation budget further.

Make dreams of taking a luxury cruise a reality

Even on a tight budget, you can cruise the world in style. Use the above tips to find more affordable luxury cruise options. If the higher price point is holding you back, begin setting aside money in your vacation fund. Every little bit saved adds up and gets you close to your goal.

Over time, your savings will grow and you'll have the money you need to book an exciting cruise adventure in the future. But make sure you keep your savings in a high-yield savings account so you earn interest. For additional money-saving tips, check out our personal finance resources .

Single cruisers - how do you find cabin-mates/cruising buddies?

losfp

Cool Cruiser

Just wondering if there's any single cruisers on here who have had success finding a cruising mate to share a cabin (ie: not an existing friend or acquaintance). I would be curious to know if there's any sites or networks to find a travelling companion, that preferably don't feature axe murderers, to help a friend.

I have a friend who was set to travel with us on our recent NZ cruise, but her cabinmates (a couple) unfortunately had to cancel due to the wife falling pregnant.  We're going on another cruise next January (Singapore-Tokyo on Diamond Princess) and she would be keen to come along if she can find a suitable travel buddy.  I'd love to help her out (in a non-creepy way!!) but pretty clueless around what's available as resources or networks as I've always travelled with my wife for the last 20 years.

That's a great question. I am interested in answers as I now find myself in a strange (to me) situation of travelling as a single since my wifes' passing last year. I have a friend I have shared with in the past but her daughter is having her first baby in April and will not be going anywhere until she is confident her daughter can cope.

There use to be a huge Aus cruise companions match up website for many years but the travel agency that operated it went bust about 18 months ago. A real shame as it was well used.

If you do a search in Facebook using the terms "cruise companions" and "cruise buddies" there are loads of very large groups for both Aus/NZ specific, and worldwide. Also most of the cruise lines have FB pages and groups linked to them and many people post there to find cabin shares.

2 hours ago, GUT2407 said: Would you really want to share such a small room with a stranger?

Its done by millions of solos around the world on both cruises and land tours. I have shared with strangers on 3 out of 4 of my polar trips because the cabin would have been double the price (ie $100k!) otherwise. All polar trips match up solos for twin, triple and quad share. In the 80s and 90s the cruise lines operating out of Aus also did it as I spent a good part of my teens making the most of P&O's "Friendly Four" deals where they paired up 4 solo girls to a cabin. Have shared with strangers on many land tours around the world too.

I struggled with this problem a number of times.  In 2009 my TA offered to introduce me to another single for world cruise, saving $9000.  Thought about it long and hard and decided no.  There were a number of people sharing cabins who had never met before, 90% of them had “issues”.

So pleased I went on my own, and for other cruises.  The extra money for the dreaded single supplement is offset by peace of mind.

i simply tell my kids less for the inheritance, so happy you are pleased to see your mother enjoying herself. Lol.  Worked long and hard for over 40 years,

Where are you Dick ?

I would need a pro Labrador cabin mate, are there any?   I reckon one would need a mini suite too, bit of space.

The only people I’ve shared with are Mrs Gut and young Ms Gut.

to be honest even Ms Gut was a bit of a stretch, issue one is the bathroom, the thing is so small, or more accurately I’m so, not small, I tend to need to go to to dress, even going to the toilet can be a bit ....... with noise smell etc when you share with family, with strangers, well I’d just be uncomfortable, but then it’s been said that I’m an anti social SOB strewth don’t even really like guests in the house, so if I offer you a room for a night or two, feel privileged

Haha

"Find a female Cruise or travel buddy" and "NZ Solo cruising and travel community" are two groups I belong to.

Brisbane41

Avoid it as best as you can. It is not a good way to travel and you are best to only share the cabin with people that you know and trust.

P&O UK did it many years ago on world cruises to make it more affordable to singles and they actually sold share cabins. That system has been abolished due to the endless problems it caused and poor personal habits.

Being ex Navy and sharing a mess deck with 60 other men to sleep with and 6 showers and toilets to share between us I thought I could handle it, but not every passenger is ex-military and do not have the exceptional hygiene and personal qualities that military people have.

Examples you might find are:

  • underwear soaking in bathroom sinks.
  • wet socks and underwear hanging over lamp fittings to dry from the heat
  • coat hangers wedged into the air conditioning vents to dry clothes
  • food scraps left on your side of the bench
  • uninvited cabin guests
  • unusual wake up times
  • prank phone calls at odd hours to the cabin
  • bed wetting
  • bible punchers
  • lack of toilet flushing
  • missing the toilet for both types of waste
  • used toilet paper dropped in cabin garbage
  • excessive nudity
  • televisions left on late at night because the darlings cant sleep without noise
  • air conditioning on unbearable temperatures
  • all bath towels being used
  • stewards dismissed or told no turn down service or daily clean up is necessary
  • medical call outs late at night for suspected heart attacks which is nothing more than fish bones wedged in their teeth
  • towels with skid marks hanging on the towel rack
  • wet clothes hanging in the shower cubicle despite other peoples need to use it
  • sleep talking
  • sleep walking

If all of this sounds like a fun holiday to you then go for it. As I said its best to only go with people you know and trust. These are some of the horror stories I have heard and know what goes on in share cabins. It is also why I always take antibacterial wipes with me on each cruise and wipe down every surface, every drawer, every switch and every coat hanger that I am likely to come in contact with.

The_Big_M

A pretty good, and realistic list, there, Brisbane.

I suspect you have to have a massive level of tolerance for it to work, in case you're not very lucky to have someone with very similar levels of tidiness as yourself. When sharing a room on land, people usually interview others to get a feel for compatibility. However, many of these travel arrangements s have no such pre-qualification so its luck of the draw.

10 hours ago, NSWP said: would need a pro Labrador cabin mate, are there any?

Absolutely there are but hubby might not like it too much! I'm an ex vet nurse and puppy Walker for guide dogs Australia and a labrador lover since as far back as I can remember.

Re cabin mates - before hubby was converted and found travel I decided I wasnt waiting for him to retire so went with his blessing.  My first trip to Europe I did 3 tours b2b.  2nd tour I was roomed with a lady from qland on a same sex share basis.   That was in 2002 and we have travelled 1-2 times a year since together have become firm friends.  The only year we haven't done an o/s trip was 2011 when we were both diagnosed with breast cancer a week apart.

There can be as many success stories as bad ones but its usually the negatives we hear of.

Like

Well this thread got interesting lol

Anyway, i can see share situations are definitely not for everyone. I've never really been in that position but was curious what's out there. I think my friend would much prefer to go with someone she knows (or that someone that can be directly vouched for by someone she knows) so probably she won't go looking for a stranger to share with.

Thanks all for an entertaining discussion haha

I wonder why that agency went bust!!!!!!! Real well used and probably abused!!!! The reason why is that strangers simply do not get on. Have you ever heard of the saying you reap what you sow?

Bubbeh

I seriously suggest anybody sharing accommodation with a 'new best friend' rethink that situation.  I have met several people whose cruises were ruined because they chose to be matched with a 'like minded' single.  Sharing space is difficult under even the best of circumstances and problems arise between couples supposed to actually love each other.  How in heavens name does anybody expect random strangers to get along well enough to share a tiny room and even tinier bathroom?

In my opinion, money would be well spent on a single supplement even if this curtails some aspects of the holiday.

Examples you might find are: underwear soaking in bathroom sinks. wet socks and underwear hanging over lamp fittings to dry from the heat coat hangers wedged into the air conditioning vents to dry clothes food scraps left on your side of the bench snoring uninvited cabin guests unusual wake up times prank phone calls at odd hours to the cabin bed wetting bible punchers lack of toilet flushing missing the toilet for both types of waste used toilet paper dropped in cabin garbage excessive nudity televisions left on late at night because the darlings cant sleep without noise air conditioning on unbearable temperatures all bath towels being used stewards dismissed or told no turn down service or daily clean up is necessary medical call outs late at night for suspected heart attacks which is nothing more than fish bones wedged in their teeth towels with skid marks hanging on the towel rack wet clothes hanging in the shower cubicle despite other peoples need to use it sleep talking sleep walking nightmares If all of this sounds like a fun holiday to you then go for it. As I said its best to only go with people you know and trust. These are some of the horror stories I have heard and know what goes on in share cabins. It is also why I always take antibacterial wipes with me on each cruise and wipe down every surface, every drawer, every switch and every coat hanger that I am likely to come in contact with.

Good list, when I was in the Army, many moons ago, I shared a barrack room with 23 other young soldiers, the noises, sights and smells remain with me to this day.

On the Noordam there were events for singles. Are these worth going to? I thought of going myself to find out but each time I chickened out or they clashed with other things I was interested in.

They sometimes are. It could help you find people to at least drink with at the bar so you have someone to talk to. Sometimes they are well attended others they are not. It also depends how shy the people are. I go to those things when I do cruise alone but I am definitely not into sharing with others.

Yes, check it out ans report back.

The guest demographics was a pleasant surprise since our last cruise with HAL 5 years ago - much younger crowd.I've noticed a similar trend on Celebrity the last few years too.

I travelled loads when I was younger (land travel) and shared with strangers with no problems at all.  Now I'm older and rather less tolerant it's not as appealing - even less so on a cruise where you can't escape.

I don't cruise that often as I pay a single supplement, but it's so worth it to have that small space all to myself.

Yes when you are a teenager and barely legal just in the Navy then the thought of sharing does not bother you at all. A few years later when I was in my 20's I did not have any problems sharing with strangers for a 49 night cruise.

Like you now that I am older I want my privacy and if I am travelling alone and meet a woman on the ship then there is peace of mind that I have a cabin to myself. That also occurred to me when I started meeting girls when I was sharing and did not have a cabin to take them back to.

If I share with any of my nave mates (male) then we get a full suite and partition it off at night with one of us on the sofa bed and the other on the double bed. The bathroom can also be split in two so if either of us gets lucky then it is no drama sharing a cabin.

I am doing that cruise and may need a cabin mate - lol.  Suddenly, the $$'s seemed less important.    Well this thread got interesting lol   Anyway, i can see share situations are definitely not for everyone. I've never really been in that position but was curious what's out there. I think my friend would much prefer to go with someone she knows (or that someone that can be directly vouched for by someone she knows) so probably she won't go looking for a stranger to share with.   Thanks all for an entertaining discussion haha

Ultrawealthy cruising: See inside Royal Caribbean's most extravagant upgrades and a $100,000-a-week cabin on its Icon of the Seas

  • Cruise giants are putting more "pay-to-play" amenities on their new ships.
  • Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas has high-end upcharge options like a $200-per-person dinner.
  • See what a vacation on the world's largest cruise ship is like for affluent travelers.

Insider Today

Are you looking to ball out on your weeklong vacation aboard the world's largest cruise ship ? Get ready to pay $200 for dinner and $100,000 for a cabin.

Vacations-at-sea can be a fairly affordable vacation option. With most cruise lines, your base fare already includes accommodations, unlimited food, endless activities, and the opportunity to see several destinations in one go.

But as more " pay-to-play " amenities show up on board, the more pricey these floating vacations could become. And there's likely no better example of this than Royal Caribbean's new world's largest cruise ship.

Forget tiny interior cabins and dinners at the buffet. On the 9,950-person Icon of the Seas, affluent travelers could have a vacation that rivals even the most luxurious small-ship cruise .

Guests interested in luxuriating in one of Icon’s 179 suites will be paying a minimum of $4,614 per person for a weeklong sailing.

The mega-ship's high-end suites range from 402 to 2,523 square feet, balconies included.

Some come with sweeping views of the AquaTheater . No need to scramble for the best seats when you can watch the show's divers, synchronized swimmers, and aerialists from your couch.

Others, like the floor-to-ceiling window-lined Icon Loft, are spread across two floors.

Guests in the most luxurious suites also get Starlink WiFi, laundry services, the best seats for on board shows, and a "Royal Genie" to help plan their trip.

But few compare to Icon’s most expensive cabin, the 2,523-square-foot Ultimate Family Townhouse.

Guests in the three-floor floating mansion get to wake up to sweeping ocean views and coffee on one of the three balconies.

The bottom floor has an open-air patio that opens into Icon's Surfside neighborhood.

The two bedrooms — one with a bunk bed — are back inside on the top floor.

Looking to watch a movie or flex your karaoke skills? Slide down to the second floor, where you can do just that at one of the several lounges.

A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean told Business Insider that travelers have been 'quickly' reserving the giant cabin for an average of $100,000 a week.

But a cruise ship worker stationed at the Ultimate Family Townhouse in January told BI that some guests have been snatching up the multilevel townhouse for a whopping $200,000 a week, noting that the playground-like cabin was mostly booked for 2024.

The keycards to these plush suites also open up another exclusive side of the ship: the Suite Neighborhood.

Only guests staying in suites can access the 60,924-square-foot retreat and its two restaurants, sundeck, hot tub, pool, and bar.

The list of exclusive restaurants doesn’t end there, of course.

More than half of the Icon of the Seas' 28 eateries come at an extra cost.

Some are more affordable, like Izumi at the Park's grab-and-go sushi window. For $10, hungry travelers can pick between seaweed salad and edamame, plus two choices of sashimi, nigiri, and rolls.

Cruisers craving a formal, upscale dinner could instead reserve the rabbit-slinging $200-per-person Empire Supper Club.

The price is comparable to high-end, on-land Michelin-starred restaurants.

Empire Supper Club's American fare dinner flexes eight courses, a cocktail pairing, and live jazz. Appetizer options include butter-poached langoustine with Osetra caviar. For the main course, the aforementioned rabbit leg and loin could be a bun-tastic choice.

The latter will be paired with a New York Sour — not a hoppy beer.

There are 18 other places to drink on the ship. As usual, none are complimentary.

Expect to front New York City prices without a beverage package: The popular Rye and Bean bar serves coffee and tea-infused cocktails ranging from $12 to $14.

Looking for a pampering? Like alcohol, spa treatments are rarely complimentary on cruise ships.

cruise cabin mate finder

Vacationing can be stressful. At the mega-ship's spa, guests can unwind with an almost $150 25-minute facial or a nearly $180 50-minute Swedish massage.

Or, book one of the exclusive casitas to relax with unobstructed ocean views.

A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean did not immediately respond to BI's request for casita pricing on Icon of the Seas. But for context, a casita on the cruise line's older Symphony of the Seas mega-ship can cost about $360 per day during a sea day.

Amenities like the six-slide waterpark and mini-golf course are complimentary to all guests.

But the same can't be said for Crown's Edge , one of the ship's most distinctive amenities.

Travelers must don a bulky jumpsuit and harness before they face their fear of heights at the thrilling agility course.

The half-walking, half-ziplining route, which leaves its sweaty-palmed participants dangling 154 feet above the ocean, could be completed in a minute or so.

That's $49 down the drain in one minute.

And why stop there when you can splurge during port days too?

Icon of the Seas will dock at Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay private island for all 2024 sailings.

As expected, the Caribbean getaway is full of upcharged activities.

Travelers with young children might want to drop $100 per head for an afternoon at the waterpark.

Meanwhile, those without kids can pay between $39 to $89 per person for a boozy day at the adult-only Hideaway Beach .

Nearby, the more exclusive beach club could be almost triple that cost.

A weeklong trip on the new world's largest cruise ship could quickly become an ultra-luxurious vacation.

But even travelers looking to spend modestly might be shocked by the new ship's prices.

Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, told investors in 2023 that Icon's inaugural season had commanded more bookings at "materially higher rates" than any of its previous ship launches.

Patrick Scholes, a lodging and leisure research analyst at Truist Securities, told BI in late 2023 that new cruise liners generally command a 20% to 50% pricing premium.

Three months before Icon of the Seas' launch , he estimated the new vessel was priced at a premium of "at least 50% if not more."

At the time, the least expensive 2024 itinerary had started at $1,820 per person for an interior cabin.

Pricing has since increased by $17. That's $262 per person, per day, for a windowless stateroom.

And no, it doesn't come with access to the Suite Neighborhood.
