Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ takes over Japan as fans watch out for Super Bowl appearance

Taylor Swift in Japan

HONG KONG — The Taylor Swift phenomenon swept Asia this week, with fans from across the continent flocking to Japan to see the latest leg of the American pop star’s “ Eras Tour ” — while those at home are hoping she can make it back to the U.S. in time to watch boyfriend Travis Kelce in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The streets of Tokyo, where Swift is playing four sold-out shows from Wednesday to Saturday, have been swept with snow and the excited buzz of fans from around the world.

Katherine Medina, a 29-year-old from the Dominican Republic who lives in Japan, attended the Thursday show at the 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome.

“I was sitting next to a girl from China. The girls in front of me were from the Philippines. A girl behind me was from the United States, Indiana,” she said.

Medina, who was sitting separately from her friends, said they had the same experience, forging instant connections with the Swift fans around them even if there were language barriers.

“Maybe they don’t have the ‘How are you?’ conversation, but they were like crying together,” she said.

Among those in the audience at Swift’s first show on Wednesday was Rosé from the South Korean girl group Blackpink, who posted video of herself singing along to the 10-minute version of “All Too Well.”

Japan is the first stop in Asia for Swift’s “Eras Tour,” which began last year and is the first to break the billion-dollar mark , while giving a boost to local economies as well.

Ticket revenue and other spending related to the four shows in Japan are estimated to have an economic impact of 34 billion yen ($230 million), according to the Economic Impact Research Laboratory.

“That’s just from one person performing four nights!” said Mitsumasa Etou, a researcher at Tokyo City University who did the calculation.

Japan is the world’s second-largest music market after the United States, but live music was hampered during the Covid-19 pandemic by border closures and other restrictions.

“We’ve had a rather long period where we didn’t actually have a lot of artists coming to Japan because of Covid,” said Barbara Greene, a lecturer in contemporary Japanese culture at Tokyo International University. “And I think Swift is the first really huge artist that people can’t wait to see.”

Since Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs advanced to the Super Bowl, there has been fevered speculation as to whether Swift can make it to Las Vegas in time for the Sunday-afternoon game after her Saturday-night concert in Tokyo.

Not to worry, the Japanese Embassy in Washington says, noting that Tokyo is 17 hours ahead of Las Vegas — a time difference that works in her favor traveling toward the U.S.

“We wanted to confirm that anyone concerned can be Fearless in knowing that this talented performer can wow Japanese audiences and still make it to Las Vegas to support the Chiefs when they take the field for the Super Bowl wearing Red ,” the embassy said in a Feb. 2 statement .

After the Super Bowl, Swift heads to Australia for seven concerts in Melbourne and Sydney later this month, then to Singapore for six concerts in March.

How to get tickets to international shows on Taylor Swift’s 'Eras Tour'

The “Shake It Off” singer’s fan base infamously crashed Ticketmaster when they overcrowded the system while trying to buy tickets when they went live on Nov. 15, 2022. Since then, the platform has employed a new ticket purchasing process that has kept crashes at bay, so far.

The new purchasing multi-step process first requires pre-registration in order to be eligible for pre-sales and regular sales. However, pre-sales and registration are closed for all current international tour dates.

Fans who are interested in attending an international show can try purchasing tickets on reseller sites such as Stubhub and SeatGeek.

Eras Tour in Tokyo: Tracking Taylor Swift's secret songs as she plays Japan

eras tour japan reddit

TOKYO — All's fair in love and secret songs, so Taylor Swift started her acoustic set with a blank space in 2024.

For her final night in the Dome, Taylor Swift performed “Come In With The Rain” from “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” on guitar “You’re On You’re Own, Kid” on piano. It was her first time performing "Come In With The Rain" on the Eras Tour.

Throwing it back on night three

"I was thinking I would do some kind of throwback things tonight," Swift said on her third night in Tokyo. "Neither one of these songs I've ever played before on tour so wish me luck."

Swift performed "Superman" from "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" on the guitar and "The Outside" on the piano from her first album.

Keep your 'eyes open' night two

On the second night in Tokyo, Swift strummed "Eyes Open" on the guitar from the Hunger Games soundtrack.

"I've selected two brand-new songs that I've never performed," she said before quickly adding they are not from her 11th album, "The Tortured Poets Department" coming out April 19.

Her second surprise song on the piano was "Electric Touch" from "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)."

'Dear Reader,' welcome to Tokyo

For night one, Swift performed "Dear Reader" from "Midnights" on the guitar and "Holy Ground" from "Red (Taylor's Version)" on the piano. The first song she's never performed live on the tour and the other she played in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on May 27.

"I decided that in 2024, when we go back on tour, I'm just gonna open back up all the songs for surprise songs,” Swift said during her final 2023 performance in Sao Paulo, Brazil . “For one year, we've really gotten through a lot of songs, so I'm just gonna make all the songs fair game when we go back on tour."

Swift will perform at the Tokyo Dome through Saturday. Her next tour dates are in Melbourne, Australia, but it's likely she will make a pit stop at the Super Bowl on Sunday to cheer on her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift always keeps her promises. Just a couple weeks after unveiling a list of Latin American dates for her bestselling Eras Tour and pledging to schedule even more across the globe, the 33-year-old pop star has now announced a slew of international shows for the trek in 2024.

Here Are the Artists Opening for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour: Paramore, Phoebe Bridgers…

Trending on billboard.

Swift first confirmed that the Eras Tour would be going global earlier this month, when the “Anti-Hero” singer announced a Latin American leg of shows in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina also featuring support from Carpenter, whom Swift called a “sweet angel princess.” “Really thrilled to tell you this!!” the pop star wrote in a post to her social media accounts at the time. “Mexico, Argentina and Brazil: We are bringing The Eras Tour to you this year!” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

“LOTS more international dates to come soon, promise!” she added.

Ten days later, Swift added three additional shows to the Latin America leg, which kicks off in early August and picks up in November.

In addition to the new shows, Swifties also have a new album to look forward to in the coming weeks. As announced in May, Swift’s third studio album, Speak Now, will receive the “Taylor’s Version” treatment. Re-recordings of the set’s original tracks drop July 7, as do previously unreleased “Vault” tracks featuring Hayley Williams and Fall Out Boy.

Didn’t get an access code for the ticket selling of the Singapore shows of The Eras Tour? We’re here to guide you through the step-by-step process of the Lawson Ticket Exclusive Pre-Sale so you can finally see Taylor Swift in Japan!

We previously made a guide regarding the Japan ticket lottery system , which was exclusive to Japan residents, but the newest round of lottery is actually open to overseas fans. Here’s how:

Choose your ticket tier according to your budget.

Aside from the VIP packages, there are four ticket tiers available. There are additional fees on top of the ticket price: JPY 960 service charge per ticket, JPY 220 system usage fee per ticket, and JPY 330 electronic ticket service fee. So the total price per ticket are as follows:

  • It’s Been A Long Time Coming VIP Package – JPY 122,800 + 960 service charge + 220 system usage fee + 330 electronic ticket service fee = JPY 124,310 (about PHP 48,900)
  • Karma Is My Boyfriend VIP Package – JPY 72,800 + 960 service charge + 220 system usage fee + 330 electronic ticket service fee = JPY 74,310 (about PHP 29,200)
  • I Remember It All Too Well VIP Package – JPY 52,800 + 960 service charge + 220 system usage fee + 330 electronic ticket service fee + 330 electronic ticket service fee = JPY 54,310 (about PHP 21,400)
  • SS SEAT – JPY 30,000 + 960 service charge + 220 system usage fee + 330 electronic ticket service fee = JPY 31,510 (about PHP 12,400)
  • S SEAT – JPY 22,800 + 960 service charge + 220 system usage fee + 330 electronic ticket service fee = JPY 24,310 (about PHP 9,600)
  • A SEAT – JPY 18,800 + 960 service charge + 220 system usage fee + 330 electronic ticket service fee = JPY 20,310 (about PHP 8,000)
  • U-20 SEAT – JPY 8,800 + 960 service charge + 220 system usage fee + 330 electronic ticket service fee = JPY 10,310 (about PHP 4,100) (Note: This ticket tier is exclusive to fans 20 years and younger, which needs to be proven with a valid ID on the day of the concert)

Beyoncé tour won’t come close Taylor tour has been planned Beyoncé was not a factor Taylor bout to smash 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Overrated flop

' src=

Happy JuneTEETH Beyonce! Taylor just kicked yours in!

' src=

Beyoncé won’t be queen of touring money this summer or any other summer Taylor sat her down 😂😂😂😂😂😂

' src=

RWT is only 57 shows compared to Taylor’s 102. She’ll probably add even more too. There’s no comparison dumb ass. Where’s Cardi album at? Focus on that.

' src=

Because the demand is there for more Taylor shows than there is for Beyoncé. So Taylor wins.

' src=

Haters are sadly mistaken if they think Renaissance won’t be adding more dates into 2024. Both tours are doing $1Billion+ regardless of who grosses more. 😆 🤣 😂

You are DELUSIONAL, if demand 🫴 isn’t there than why are like 25% of all the dates just RE-RUNS 🤔

One of them sold out 5 times 😆 🤣 😂

According to Ticketmaster, the ticket demand exceeded the number of available tickets by more than 800% in Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Summerfield, Atlanta, Inglewood, and Houston, to all of which additional shows were added consequently. 😩

If the 👑 sought to meet 100% of demand she would be touring well into 2025.

2 million ppl were on the WAITING LIST in just London alone. 😆 🤣 😂

' src=

Those Japan shows about to make an absolute killing!!!!

Haters are sadly mistaken if they think Renaissance won’t be adding more dates into 2024. Both tours are doing $1Billion+ regardless of who grosses more. 😆 🤣 😂

' src=

Bey ain’t doing nothing with that fractured ankle of hers she finna be on more pain pills than MJ and Prince combined fatty😆

' src=

Twin e has less tour dares at this point and still she has outsold Taylor, so even when Beyoncé add more data later she’ll still outsell and does it really matter anyway they’re both great artists 👨‍🎨

' src=

Taylor is legendary!! An incredible multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and record producer. The fact that she’s still that top girl 17 years later is beyond amazing. Beyonce tour won’t come close, i mean look at the Renaissance album sales versus Taylor’s Midnight album…facts on stat. Queen Taylor continue to conquer, bow down b******.

' src=

Taylor is queen. No ones slaying like her. She writes her OWN music so no need for writers camps or endless samples. That’s a TRUE artist. 😘

Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Resumes Rehearsals 13 Days Before Tokyo Shows

Taylor Swift Resumes Eras Tour Rehearsals Ahead of International Leg

Taylor Swift is back in rehearsals for the next leg of her Eras Tour .

Natalie Lecznar , one of Swift’s Eras Tour dancers, revealed that the singer is officially gearing up to hit the stage once again.

“13 Days. First day of rehearsals for tour,” Lecznar shared via Instagram Stories on Thursday, January 25. “Countdown to Tokyo.”

Swift and her team will be taking a trip to Japan for four tour stops in February before jetting to Australia later that same month. The musician is set to hit everywhere from Japan to Europe on the tour’s international leg, which runs from February to August of this year.

The same day that Swift and her dancers resumed rehearsals happened to be the one year anniversary of the crew’s Eras Tour journey.

“One year ago today, this journey began in a rehearsal room with some of the hardest working, dedicated, and most talented humans!” Lecznar captioned a black-and-white Instagram post of Swift . “Thank you @nopenother for bringing it all together and making us shimmer, and to our fearless leader Taylor Swift, you inspire us all. Thank you for taking us on this world journey with you! See you soon tour fam, See you soon.”

Taylor Swift Resumes Eras Tour Rehearsals Ahead of International Leg

Lecznar gave a special shout-out to famed choreographer Mandy Moore who put together all the Eras Tour moves.

“I love that she is a hard worker, she cares so much about what she’s doing, she wants the fans to have the best show possible, and she stops at nothing to get that done,” Moore told Entertainment Tonight in November 2023 about working with Swift. “And I appreciate it because I like to work hard too, and we are really alike. We had a really good working relationship; it was awesome.”

Swift officially kicked off her Eras Tour in March 2023, months after the now-infamous Ticketmaster debacle which caused chaos among Swifties when many of them were left without tickets.

“It’s really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties, and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse,” Swift shared in a statement following the incident. “There are a multitude of reasons why people had such a hard time trying to get tickets and I’m trying to figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward.”

Taylor Swift Resumes Eras Tour Rehearsals Ahead of International Leg

While she’s since added various other dates to the Eras Tour lineup, Swift also released a film version of her concert, titled Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour . The movie was nominated for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement at the Golden Globes earlier this month after grossing $250.3 million worldwide at the box office. (The win ultimately went to Barbie .)

The next leg of Swift’s tour overlaps with the NFL postseason. If her boyfriend, Travis Kelce , and the Kansas City Chiefs make it to the Super Bowl , fans are speculating whether Swift will make the trip from Tokyo to Las Vegas, where this year’s big game is being held on February 11.

Drew Barrymore previously teased that it’s possible Swift make it to the game — even if she flies commercial.

“If she left Tokyo at midnight. The flight time is 11 hours and 35 minutes approximately from Tokyo to Vegas, so she might arrive at 10:30 p.m., but on February 10, leaving her a full night’s sleep,” Barrymore explained during a November 2023 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show .

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour - Sao Paulo, Brazil

There’s a lot of confusion behind what Taylor Swift will be doing on Super Bowl Sunday. Naturally she wants to be in Las Vegas to see her boyfriend Travis Kelce try to win his third championship ring, but she already has a commitment in Japan at the Tokyo Dome on February 10, as part of the international leg of her “Eras Tour.”

This has led to all sorts of number crunching on how Taylor could perform on Saturday night, finish in time to catch a flight back to the United States, and make it to Las Vegas in time for kickoff.

In reality people are really overthinking this, or underthinking it — because it’s really not that big of a rush because of the international date line.

So, when is Taylor’s concert in Japan?

Swift performs at 6 p.m. Japan Standard Time on Saturday, February 10. However, Japan is 14 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time in the USA, and 17 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time, which Las Vegas falls in.

So this means that while Taylor’s concert is on Saturday night, here in the USA it’s actually taking place at 1 a.m. on Saturday morning. Considering the full “Eras” setlist is 3hr 15 mins she’s wrapping things up before most people are awake.

What about the flight time?

This is where things get vaguely interesting, because honestly — we don’t really know. We have to assume Taylor is flying private, but the vast majority of private jets don’t have the range to make it from Tokyo to Las Vegas non-stop.

The accepted flight time is 12 hr 30, with a single layover. If she’s on a jet that can make it non-stop then it’s 10 hr 30.

So what timeline are we looking at?

It’s really not that bad. Taylor can finish her concert, have a few hours to decompress, then board her flight at 7:15 a.m. Las Vegas local time.

If we assume it’s a flight with a layover for refueling that still puts Taylor in Las Vegas by 9:45 p.m. on Saturday night before the Super Bowl. More than ample time to relax, get dinner, shake a little of that jet lag and be ready for the game on Sunday.

So it’s not a big deal at all, and we can absolutely assume Taylor will be there in time to watch Travis play — then she heads back on tour to Australia. It’s a lot of international travel, but love is worth it.
