This majestic hill station was once the summer resort of the British government in South India. Local sightseeing of Munnar includes visit to Mattupetty Dam, Kundale Lake and Echo point. Day 1 : Cochin to Munnar

Arrive Cochin Airport / Railway Station. Our representative will meet you and explain the tour to you and later drive to Munnar (approx. 135KM / 3.30 hrs). Munnar is one of the most famous hill station situated on the Western Ghats at the height of 1600 metres above the sea level. It is essentially a tea town – miles of unending tea plantation can be seen here. Enroute see Cheeyappara,  Valara waterfalls,   Spice plantations, Rubber Plantations,   etc… Arrive and check into the hotel, rest of the day at Leisure. 

Day 2 : Munnar sight seeing

After breakfast proceed for Munnar sightseeing. Morning visit Eravikulam National Park which is also known as Rajamala, the natural habitat of Nilgiri Thar. Nilgiri Thar can be observed very closely here.  Afternoon visit Mattupetty dam, Echo point and  Kundala Lake. Boating facilities are available at Mattupetty Dam and Kundala Lake. While coming back visit flower garden. Evening free for shopping. Overnight at hotel   

Optional Activities at Munnar : Motor boat or speedboat ride at Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Lake, Elephant Safari, Horse ride at Kundala,  Trekking, Ayurveda Massage etc.

Day 3 : Munnar to Thekkady

After breakfast checkout from hotel and drive to Thekkady (110 kms / 3.30 hrs) which is also known as Periyar. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the world’s most fascinating natural wildlife reserves.   At Thekkady enjoys a boating (on own ) at man made lake and this is the only wild life sanctuary in India where you can have the unique experience of viewing wildlife at close from the safety of a boat on the lake. The probable animals to watch are Bison, Gaur, Wild Elephants, Sambhar and a wide variety of birds. Evening free for shopping. Overnight at hotel.

Day 4 : Thekkady

Full day free for optional activities like : Bamboo Rafting, Nature walk, Jeep Safari, Spice Plantation tour, Ayurveda Massage, Martial Arts Kalaripayattu Show, Kathakali show, Elephant ride etc.

Shopping : Tea, Coffee, Spices, Antiques etc.

Day 5 : Thekkady to  Alleppey : Houseboat stay

After breakfast checkout from hotel and drive to  Alleppey (160 kms / 4 – 4.30 hrs) the backwater destinations of Kerala. Arrive and check in to Houseboat which is also called as Kettuvallom (the boat will ready around 1200 hrs) and begin your journey through the picturesque backwaters and small lakes of Kerala. Your houseboat has  bedrooms with attached toilet, a dining area cum sit out. There will be s accompanying staff in the boat. One driver, one helper  cum cook. Lunch, Evening Tea, Snacks and Dinner will be cooked and served on board by the accompanying cook. In AC Boat AC is installed in bedroom and it will switch on from 9 pm to 6 am only.  overnight at Houseboat.

Day 6 : Houseboat to Cochin drop  55 Nights 6 Days Kerala tour Package

After breakfast Houseboat drop you at nearest Jetty around 0900 hrs where our car and drive wait for you, If interested visit Alleppey beach and later come to Cochin (1.30 hrs) if time permit do Cochin sight seeing – interesting places to see are St Francis Church, Fort Cochin, Chinese fishing nets, Dutch Palace, Jewish Synagogue, Jew street etc and later drop at Airport (1.30 hrs) or Railway station.

Arrival in Cochin & Drive to Munnar (120 km/approx. 4.5 hours) 

Get welcomed and greeted by our representative in Cochin, and drive to Munnar. Visit Athirapally waterfalls enroute Munnar, which got its name due to the confluence of the three rivers which gave rise to the town. View gorgeous vistas, aromatic oil factories, spice and cardamom plantations, and take a closer look at some of the most endangered species of the world and Neelakurinji flowers, the purplish blue flowers that bloom only once in 12 years.  Check-in at the hotel. Spend the evening for leisure. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Touring in Munnar 

Enjoy morning breakfast. Visit the Eravikulam National Park, abode to several threatened and endangered species. It is a fabulous spot to enjoy trekking, and to take a panoramic view of the entire tea plantations. Next, drive to the Tea Museum (always open from Sunday to Tuesday), which throws light on the history of tea plantations of Munnar. Later, proceed to Mattupetty dam, Flower Garden and Eco Point.  Return to the hotel and spend overnight.

Travel from Munnar – Thekkady (90 kms / approx. 2.5 hours) 

Morning breakfast is followed by a drive to Thekkady (Periyar). Arrive at the hotel and check-in. The region of Thekkady is surrounded by lush green valleys, aromatic spice plantations and unique biodiversity.  This touring destination is popular for the Periyar National Park. Later, in the afternoon, take a boat-ride on the Periyar lake. In the evening, enjoy the traditional Kalaripattu dance (optional). Return to the hotel and spend overnight.

Travel from Thekkady – Kumarakom (130 kms / approx. 3.5 hour) 

After breakfast, check-out at the hotel and head to Kumarakom—a delightfully pleasant emerald peninsula protruding into the charming Vembanad Lake spotted with numerous traditional country boats, rafts and canoes. The freshwater of the lake makes its way into the mainland giving rise to a labyrinth of backwaters, waterways, canals and lagoons.  A sunset cruise with your loved one in Vembanad lake is a unique experience. Overnight stay at the backwater resort.

Travel from Kumarakom – Cochin (50 kms / approx. 1.5 hours) 

After breakfast, proceed to Cochin. Arrival at the hotel and check-in. Later, visit the city starting with Mattancherry Palace, gifted by the Portuguese to the ruler of Cochin in 1555. Explore one of the oldest synagogues in the city here.  Find several other attractions including the Chinese fishing nets, local spices market and the Kathakali Dance, Kerala’s primary art form. Return to the hotel, and spend overnight.

Departure from Cochin

Overall Eric provided very good places to stay at, he made the right choices when we asked for his opinion on two different stay options. He also had good insights on where to go and the driver was knowledgable as well in terms of how to reach the location, where to stop for food and how to handle traffic. When we had a situation where the stay was not as maintained and clean as expected, Eric quickly managed the situation to the best of his ability. Overall we enjoyed our trip. Only our driver did not speak English fluently and sometimes drove aggressively, too close to other cars and that made it stressful. But this was only occasionally the case.

When I asked boat driver what is the cost for this boat ride, he didn't give any answer and went to discuss with the cab driver regarding the price. The Cab driver mentioned it is 5k for 4 people and it is speed boat and paid on our behalf for 1 hour and asked us to Gpay him later ( cab driver). Since the amount is 5k, we were expecting the boat ride to be exciting and were ok to go with ride. When the boat ride started it was boring and not exciting at all and it was a motor boat which was not at all going fast. We asked to return to the entry point as it was not worth 5k and didn't want to waste our time on this . Later we discussed with the cab driver how come it is 5k for this small motor boat but cab driver was arguing that he already paid 5k on our behalf and we need to pay him on the way to airport or else he won't drop us at the airport. Beware of scams from cab drivers in marine drive kochi.

before confirming the plan we asked the agent to hire new vehicle for trip. but he hired vehicle which is 10 yrs old . agent not stick with his word. they were asking the amount not as per discussed before the plan. he was asking before the committed time . and 2 places driver and hotels people's are asking money I am not sure the agent is not updated the payment details to respective driver or hotel person. These people are asking the money after the payment done with the agent. And trip was good . but hotel fares are high compared to the direct booking at hotel.

Itinerary (Day Wise)

Cochin – alleppey (1 night).

Tour guests will arrive at Cochin Airport as per their scheduled flight. Upon arrival they will meet Veena World tour manager at the airport and proceed to Alleppey – known as ‘the Venice of the East’. Joining and Leaving (J&L) tour guests will join the group on their own. The transfer charges to reach the designated place or hotel will be borne by the (J&L) guests. Today we have a short Meet & Greet session.

Alleppey – Periyar (1 Night)

Today we proceed to Periyar. En route we enjoy the famous Kerala Backwaters ride and admire the scenic sites of lush paddy fields and coconut trees as we sail. Upon arrival in Periyar, we have free time for shopping at Kumily Spice Village. In the evening we enjoy Kalaripayattu show- an Indian martial art. Further we also enjoy Kathakali show - is one of the oldest theater forms in the world.

Periyar – Munnar (2 Nights)

Today we visit Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary - one of the popular national parks in India and famous as an elephant and tiger reserve. It is home to around 35 species of mammals like tiger, Indian elephant, gaur, sambar, wild pig, Indian giant squirrel, jungle cat, etc. We explore this wildlife sanctuary by sailing in the Periyar Lake. Later we proceed to Munnar – Munnar is well known for its lush green hills and tea plantations. Please Note: Periyar Boat Ride is subject to Availability. In case of non-availability, alternative sightseeing will be provided.

Today we enjoy speed boat ride at Mattupetty Dam near Sunmoon Valley, followed by a visit to Echo Point and Eravikulam (Rajamalai) National Park (subject to security permission).

Munnar – Cochin (1 Night)

Today we proceed to Cochin – Popularly known as the Queen of Arabian Sea. Upon arrival we visit Chinese Fishing Nets and St. Francis Church at Fort Kochi - one of the oldest European churches in India which has great historical significance. Later we proceed to Muttancherry, here we visit the Jewish Synagogue - oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations, Dutch Palace - one of the finest examples of the Kerala style of architecture.

It’s time now to say goodbye, Phir Milenge! Let’s stay in touch with each other through email, phone, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, etc. and meet again on yet another memorable Veena World tour. See you all! Tour guests will proceed to the airport as per their scheduled group flight departure time and start their journey back home. Joining and Leaving (J&L) tour guests will leave the group after the scheduled program. The transfer charges to reach their respective airport/cruise/rail/bus terminal will be borne by the (J&L) guests. Tour concludes. Please note: Airline: On group tours, we generally fly with the airlines that are group-friendly. Group tours are based on economy class, if you wish to travel by Premium Economy / Business Class / First Class, we can arrange the same at an additional cost subject to availability. During your air travel, refreshments and meals are provided as per the airline policy. However, we recommend you to carry dry snacks of your choice for the flight journey. Transport: For transfers and sightseeing we use small cars / Tempo Travellers / Mini or big coaches depending on the respective tour group size. The seating arrangement in the coach is based on booking priority. Seat numbers 1 & 2 are reserved for Tour Managers and Tour Guides. Seat numbers 3 & 4 are reserved as Prime Seats which can be availed by paying an additional cost. In case of small cars there will be 4-6 guests in one car as per the capacity and guests occupy the seats on rotation basis. If you wish to utilise the vehicle solely for yourself or your family or you would like to upgrade the vehicle, we can arrange the same at an additional cost subject to availability. Sightseeing attractions: Given the current dynamic situation, some monuments or sightseeing places may be closed temporarily without any prior notice. Sometimes due to rush or changes in the reservation system, entrance to the sightseeing attractions may be unavailable; in such cases, every attempt will be made to visit an alternate sightseeing place if possible or refund of the entry fee will be given. Hotels: The hotels on tour are comfortable and have been appreciated by Veena World’s guests in the past. Kindly check your respective hotels before booking your tour. Room Sharing: Sometimes, two single unfamiliar travellers (gender - alike) share a room, should read the instruction paper along with the terms & conditions and abide by the same. Meals: On tour, we provide all meals, from day one to the last day, as mentioned in the itinerary. In case of early arrival or late departure due flight timings, guests will be provided an additional meal/s without any extra cost. In case of connecting flights, if the transit time exceeds beyond three hours, guests will be provided with a meal/meal coupon. Generally, meals are provided in the restaurants. On certain occasions, packed meals will be provided for the ease of itinerary operation/sightseeing. Breakfasts are generally Indian or Continental whereas, lunches and dinners are in the form of set menu and are Indian OR Indian along with a regional dish OR regional cuisine OR popular street food. Day 01: Arrive Cochin Drive to Munnar You are greeted on arrival at Cochin International Airport /Railway station by Munnar Holidays representative and thereafter depart for Munnar (130 kms / 04 hrs) enjoying the scenic beauty & the marvelous waterfalls, high mountains with the low flying clouds passing by. Arrive Munnar and check in at hotel. Evening at Leisure. Overnight at Munnar.

Day 02: Munnar Day Tour Morning after breakfast proceed for sightseeing in Munnar which includes visit to the flower garden and for an elephant safari, before driving on to the scenic Mattupetty dam, Eco- point and Kundala dam areas. At Kundala dam there is an opportunity to enjoy boating on the lake. Finally we drive through a vegetable growing area to Top station which is situated high in the mountains on the border between Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Overnight stay at Munnar.

Day 03: Munnar Day Tour After Breakfast visit to the Tea Museum where you may join a demonstration of tea tasting. Day 04: Munnar to Thekkady Morning drive to Thekkady covering a distance of 110 kms / 4 hrs through cardamom hills. Check into the resort. After lunch take a boat ride on the lake and the Periyar dam. Boating will take approximate 2 hours and you can also get rare glimpses of wild animals. The forest department offers many programs including periyar tiger trail, nature walk, bamboo rafting, etc. Plantation tourism also is promoted by private agencies, so that the tourists can see and learn the cultivation of various spices of Kerala.
