How to Visit Camp Nou: Barcelona Stadium Visit Info 2024

a view of the pitch at camp nou barcelona

Wanna know how to visit Camp Nou? Camp Nou Stadium tours can take this already historic stadium to a new level.

Home to legendary FC Barcelona, aside from taking the field yourself (you actually can!) the Nou Camp tour is the best way to experience world class football.

In fact, this Barcelona stadium tour is the second biggest tourist attraction in Catalonia behind the epic Sagrada Familia.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to visit Nou Camp in one handy guide.

Can You Visit Camp Nou?

ATTENTION (01/29/24): On May 29th 2023 Camp Nou started an aggressive renovation project. During the renovation it won’t be possible to book traditional Camp Nou tours. There is only one, which I’ll get to below.

Yes, you can visit Camp Nou, the iconic home stadium of FC Barcelona.

There are several ways to visit Barcelona football stadium:

  • Camp Nou Immersive Tour : This is the only way to visit Camp Nou in 2024 . It includes access to the museum, an audio guide, some looks into the construction, and the Spotify Camp Nou Live immersive room.
  • Match Days : Attending a live football match at Camp Nou is an incredible experience, but in 2024 you won’t be able to! They’re currently playing at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys until November 2024.
  • Guided Tours : Opt for a guided tour if you want a more in-depth and informative visit. These will return in November 2024!
  • VIP Experience : For a premium visit, consider VIP packages that offer exclusive access, premium seating, and hospitality services.

How to Visit Camp Nou: Visiting Barcelona Football Stadium

Again, from June 7th 2023 the only tickets you can get to visit Camp Nou are for the Immersive Tour .

This includes the museum visit with an English audio guide + access to the audiovisual space Spotify Camp Nou Live.

You’ll find many online ticket resellers, but we recommend relying on our collaborator Tiqets, which help us to keep this blog (which we’ve dedicated 1000’s of hours to) free.

Here’s a link to book the only current Camp Nou tour left:

Every Camp Nou booking helps us get closer to doing this blog for a living, so thank you 🙏

Visit Nou Camp: The Museum

It’s here in this modern and interactive space that you appreciate just how good this club is.

You’ll start off listening to the team anthem with a translation in just about any language needed.

It’s in the museum where you can flip through touch screens with tons of info on the club’s greatest players. You’ll also get a great snapshot into the team’s history watching a video presentation of some of the club’s biggest moments on a massive screen.

⚠️  Warning ⚠️ : Barcelona’s top two attractions must now be booked in advance .

You can book fast track tickets to both individually or get them as part of a discount pass:

  • ⛪ Buy now:  Sagrada Familia Fast Track Admission (skip the lines)
  • 🏞️ Buy now:  Park Guell Fast Track Admission  (skip the lines)
  • 🎟️  Buy now: Best of Barcelona Bundle (Sagrada + Park Guell + 10% discount code for all else)

You will not be able to book these tickets on site – lock in your tickets ASAP or you could miss out.

You can visit Barcelona football stadium and take a selfie with the 22 League trophies and 4 Champions League trophies .

There’s just a ton of memorabilia and equipment spanning the club’s 100+ years of history.

Top it all off with a visit to the largest official FC Barcelona team shop.

Camp Nou Visit Prices

Adding the camp nou museum audio guide.

The audio guide to visit Nou Camp, available in English , is not included in the standard ticket and  must be added during the booking .

It costs €6.00 and I recommend it only to those who are truly interested in curiosities about Barça.

You can request earphones or bring your own headphones .

The duration of the audio guide is about 1 hour and is concentrated in the museum part, so if you are accompanied by someone who has little patience, perhaps it is not for you.

During this visit of Barcelona Football Stadium it’ll go into deep detail about:

  • Paulino Alcantara’s shoes (the first Messi of 1910)
  • The history of the first FC Barcelona stadium
  • What happened during the Franco dictatorship
  • Anecdotes about the goalscorer Kubala in the 1950s
  • The construction of Camp Nou
  • Tidbits about Johan Cruijff, Maradona, Ronaldinho, and Messi

guest scoring a goal against the robokeeper on the camp nou tour in barcelona spain

This is our favorite part of the Camp Nou visit! Here you can try to beat the world’s best keeper – which is actually a robot.

Three shots cost €6 . 00 and you can pay it straight to the guy at the start of the queue.

There’s really only one way to score here, and that’s burying it Beckham-style into the top corner 😉

In fact, there’s a video online of Messi and Neymar missing – so good luck!

Oscar naturally buried his first shot, then decided to retire.

Final score: Barcelona Hacks 1 – FC Barcelona 0.

Camp Nou Visiting Hours

FC Barça stadium tour opening hours and accessibility vary depending on scheduled matches (more info below).

Once you’ve entered there is no time limit on your Camp Nou visit, as long as it’s within the opening hours.

Last entry is 90 minutes before closing time.

Entrances times are staggered every 30 minutes (9:30, 10:00, 10:30 etc.).

The stadium portion of the Camp Nou tour is closed to visitors the day of La Liga matches.

  • If there’s a chance of rain dress accordingly (the stadium has no roof!).
  • Get the audio guide for the full experience.

Camp Nou Stadium Tour History

By the late 1940’s rising football power FC Barcelona had outgrown the Camp de Les Corts and needed a new stadium to house all the new fans generated by star striker Ladislao Kubala .

Cue the aptly named Camp Nou (‘New Camp’).

The city broke ground on this UEFA five star stadium on March 28th, 1954.

When the last brick was laid Camp Nou had a capacity of 99,354 . The ground was set for some of the greatest teams in football history to frustrate opponents – like hated rivals Real Madrid.

Long before any tours of Camp Nou the stadium hosted the Olympics, World Cup (with 120,000 spectators including added standing tickets), the Champions League Final , and even the Pope.

A €600 million Camp Nou renovation project is currently underway – but the games go on!

So, make sure to make your Barcelona football stadium visit in 2024 count 🙂

  • January 29, 2020 at 9:02 pm Emma Pomells Firstly ... your site is incredible!!! My son is a huge Messi fan so will probably want the the whole FC barça card ticket. However as I am just tagging along, and definitely not joining in with a virtual training session, can I just buy a standard open ticket and be allowed to go wherever he goes?? Thanks Emma Reply
  • November 20, 2019 at 3:22 am spankwire The Camp Nou is the biggest football stadium in Europe, and it has been the setting for countless dramatic moments and wild celebrations. If you are a fan of FC Barcelona (or football in general) you will relish the opportunity to visit the stadium when it is empty. You will be able to enjoy getting up close to the trophy gallery and European cups while learning more about the master himself, Lionel Messi. Reply
  • September 12, 2019 at 1:27 pm Lucile Hola Brandi, I will advise you to go there on your arrival date in order to have the full experience, moreover if your sons are huge fans. If necessary, the stadium has a locker where you can leave your luggage and bags. Anyway, I'm sure your sons will still be more than happy with only the museum and the match ;) On a Champion's League match day you can access to the museum and panoramic view until 3 pm. Cheers, Lucile Reply

Visit Camp Nou

The Stadium of FC Barcelona

Camp Nou Tour

If you want to feel like a player for a day, the Camp Nou tour gives you the chance to go behind the scenes and soak up all the action from a player’s perspective.

What to expect – Prices & Tickets – Tour Times

Camp Nou Tour

As well as giving you instant access to all the good stuff – we’re talking dressing rooms, the player tunnel, and the mighty pitch itself – the Barcelona stadium tour also gives you access to the FC museum, where you can learn all about the history of the club.

The tour itself is self-guided, so you can spend as long as you like browsing the player bios and walking in the footsteps of football superstars. As you make your way through, bright yellow barriers etch out the way for you so you don’t miss a single thing, and there are attendants on hand to help you out if you get lost.

Information is dotted around on boards along the route, but you can also pick up a guided tour for that extra oomph (see the tickets section for more information).

What to Expect

There is a lot to take in on the FC Barcelona tour, so expect to spend between 1 and 2 hours exploring the team’s past and present. Along the way, you’ll get to build up the backstory of the Barcelona team, and learn more about its players, successes, and what life is like at the stadium for the team.

Things to See on the Camp Nou Tour

Virtual experience.

At the start of the tour you’ll be party to a 10-minute 3D extravaganza that places you, the visitor, in the much-coveted position of player.

The experience is supposed to give a sense of what it’s like for players when they’re on the pitch, with replays of famous matches and accompanying sound tracks to provide the full flavour.

One of the stop-offs of note is the in-house chapel, which was opened in 1958 and blessed by Pope John Paul II in the early 80s. Since then, it has provided a safe space for players to send up last minute prayers before they hit the field.

FC Barcelona Museum

Perhaps the most interesting element of the tour is the museum, which is home to wall-to-wall trophy cabinets, player bios, and historic photos of team successes. Here, you can delve into the narrative of FC Barcelona through a collection of fun, interactive displays and eye-catching wall displays.

Messi Space

Yes, there’s an entire space dedicated to the Argentinean superstar. You can marvel (or look on in puzzlement) at Leo Messi’s 5 Ballons d’Or and his 3 Golden Boots while watching a montage of his best goals that play out on the walls.

Not Just Football

Despite its undeniably football-focused ambiance, the stadium is also home to a collection of trophies from other Barcelona sports teams – a fun way to get an overview for the city’s entire sporting scene.

The Pressroom

Many a confession has been made and many a question been diverted in the stadium pressroom. This is where much of the post-match activity takes place, with players justifying their failures and bigging up their successes. You can sit in the same seats as the world’s best-loved players, or check things out from the press’ perspective.

Visitors’ Dressing Room

Unfortunately, you can’t wander into the FC Barcelona dressing room, because it’s constantly in use by the players who leave their stuff there on the regular. This is a shame, really, as apparently it’s decked out with a spa, treatment room, and pharmacy. Instead, you’ll have to make do with checking out the visitors’ dressing room, which has seen hundreds of global teams pass through its doors.

The Players’ Tunnel

This is where things really start to get good. If you shut your eyes (or keep them open and use your imagination), you can almost pretend you’re about to emerge on the pitch to play with one of the world’s most beloved teams.

The Mighty Playing Field

The tunnel inevitably leads to the field, which is pretty impressive up close. Here, you can look out over the 105m by 68m pitch and gaze up at the 48m high stands (squint hard enough and you can almost see the 100,000 passionate fans cheering and jeering). This is where the Benches are (or the “Dug Out” area), where you can sit in the same seats as the managers.

Commentary Boxes

Get your commentary on in these raised boxes that have seen hundreds of TV and radio stars work their fast-lipped magic.

While you’re wandering around, don’t forget to look out for Miro’s lithograph, which was made especially for the Barcelona football team, and the 5-star plaque that was awarded to the stadium in 1999.

Tickets and Prices

Ready to buy your Camp Nou Tour tickets? Here is all the price information you need to know.

The easiest way to buy tickets is online, because you can beat the queues at the stadium. Once you’ve booked, you’ll need to print out your confirmation and hand it in at the entrance of the stadium. You’ll need photographic ID to prove that you’re the person who bought the tickets. You don’t need to reserve a time or day when booking.

Camp Nou Opening Times

The stadium is open throughout the year apart from the 1st January and the 25th December.

You can take a tour between 10am and 6.30pm, with last admittance at 5.45pm.

On match days, only the museum is open to the public, including the trophy room and Messi Space, but you can also get a panoramic view of the pitch up to 3 hours before kick-off.

Note: It’s worth checking online to see if you’ll be able to access all areas before you make the journey to the stadium, as there are often unexpected changes to the schedule in training season and for miscellaneous events.

Audioguides

You can also pick up an audioguide at the start of the tour, which will offer additional information to the wall panels as you go around. Audioguides are available in a range of languages, and are self-paced so you can go with the flow.

Audioguide price: €5

Note: You’ll be asked for ID as a deposit when you pick up an audioguide, so it’s worth taking a driving license or a bank card so you don’t have to part with your passport.

Luxury Guide Service

If you really want to push the boat out, you can hire an experienced guide to take you around the stadium and offer you real-life anecdotes. Guides can deliver tours in a range of different languages and require a reservation and pre-payment. Guide price: €170 (not including the cost of entry tickets)

Alternatively, you can buy tickets at the stadium from the automatic ticket machines or from the on-site ticket offices. These are often subject to queues, so be prepared to wait around.

Camp Nou FAQ

Answers to your most frequently asked questions about the Camp Nou visit.

Yes, it is necessary to book the visit to Camp Nou as soon as possible. The number of tickets is limited for sanitary reasons (Covid19) but also to guarantee the comfort of the visitors. Our advice is to buy your ticket on this page as soon as you know the dates of your stay in Barcelona. However, you can also buy tickets at the stadium's ticket office, but you will have to wait in a queue and you will not be sure to get your ticket in the end.

The entrance for the Camp Nou visit closes one hour and a half before the official closing time of the whole site. This is the ideal time to visit the stadium and the museum. For example, if the official closing time is 7:30pm, you must arrive at 6pm to do the tour.

The average length of the visit to the Camp Nou - stadium and museum - is between 1h30 and 2h. None of the tours are time-limited, so you can stay as long as you like!

No, the price of the ticket at the stadium ticket office is higher than the ticket purchased online because it includes additional management fees. On the other hand, Camp Nou advises buying your ticket online in order to avoid queues depending on the availability of the different time slots.

Yes, you can show your Camp Nou tour ticket on your smartphone or tablet.

Unfortunately not. Once the "Camp Nou Experience" tickets have been issued, it will not be possible to postpone the visit, cancel it or get a refund.

The entrance to the Camp Nou Tour - stadium and museum - is in front of the FC Barcelona ice rink. The access is between the Barça Café and the Barça Store Camp Nou.

Yes and no, on match days, some of the Barça facilities are reserved for the match. The full tour or guided tours are not possible:

  • The museum will be open.
  • You will have access to the Gallery of Trophies, the history of the Club, and the Messi Area.
  • You will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the field, until 3 hours before kickoff.

>> Note that there is a discount on the price of tickets for the Camp Nou on match days - this discount is shown when you select the number of tickets.

Please note: On Champions League days, this restriction extends from the day before as well as the price reduction applies.

Unfortunately you will not attend a training match of the Barcelona football club players during the visit of the Camp Nou. Since 2008 the training is no longer done at Camp Nou but at La Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper which is located in Sant Joan Despi, 8.5 kilometers from Camp Nou. These training sessions are not open to the public. The only way to meet the champions now is to go to the Mini Estadi around January 5 of each year, date on which the blaugranas train for the only time of the year in public. The entrance ticket is 10€. Ticket to be found on the spot that day. (Check the date of this match which may be moved due to Liga calendar).

The visit of the Camp Nou is not suitable for the people in wheelchair due to a very large number of stairs throughout the course. Nevertheless the museum with the trophy room, the historical frieze, the Messi space as well as the panoramic view of the stadium are wheelchair-friendly.

The club also offers a special service for the disabled - The Specialized Services Office (OAE) available on +34 902 1899 00

FC Barcelona and the Camp Nou Stadium

Barcelona Football Club was founded in 1899, and their original ground, located in the Les Corts neighbourhood, had a capacity for 30,000 people. During the 1950s, due to the club’s success, they moved to a new ground with space for more than 90,000 spectators called El Camp Nou , or “the new ground” in Catalan. The stadium is currently being enlarged, and when the work has finished will have a space for 111,000 fans.

1. Getting tickets for the match

Match scheduling and the availability of tickets for Barça matches can be a little confusing. This is due to a combination of factors:

Firstly, when the La Liga schedule is announced at the start of the season, the dates which appear on the league’s official website are only provisional, and the time of kickoff appears as TBA (to be announced).

At this stage, the day on which the match is played may change by plus or minus one day. This is primarily due to the TV broadcasters and their advertisers, who are seemingly unable to plan things very far in advance.

A match may also be rescheduled because one of the teams is playing in another tournament, for example, the Champions League, and has another game in the same week.

Matches scheduled to take place at the weekend can theoretically be played at any time from Friday through to Monday. However, in practice, it’s very unlikely that a weekend Barça match won’t take place on either Saturday or Sunday.

Matches scheduled mid-week may also be played a day early or later than planned.

The time of kick off also varies and may be at any time between midday and about nine pm. Generally speaking, the more important matches are usually allocated the nine pm slot.

Usually, La Liga match dates and times are confirmed three weeks before they are due to be played. At this point, the kickoff time will be added to the schedule linked above. Once the fixture has been confirmed, barring exceptional circumstances, they won’t usually change again.

The schedule for the Champions League, Europa League, Copa del Rey and other tournaments are typically announced shortly after the draw takes place. The dates for the later stage matches are announced as and when the participating teams qualify.

Football fans lining up outside the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona

The other complication which you need to be aware of when buying tickets to see Barça is the fact that all seats in the stadium are owned by seatholders and are released in stages using a system called “Free Seats” (Catalan: Seient Lliure), whereby the club estimates how many of the seat holders will release their seat to be sold for any given match. This means that although initially, there may be no seats available for a given fixture, tickets are made available in waves as the match day approaches.

This also explains why, when you purchase your ticket, you can only select an area of the stadium and not a specific seat. This is because most seats aren’t released for sale until forty-eight hours before the fixture takes place. At this point, the club allocates specific seats and sends tickets out via email.

Generally speaking, Camp Nou is a huge stadium, and matches rarely sell out completely. As long as you are patient, getting a ticket should almost always be possible. For league games against minor teams, especially earlier in the season, you can generally leave purchasing tickets until a few days before the match takes place.

For more important matches, and better rivals, it makes sense to book your tickets online in advance to ensure you get the best possible seats. This is especially true if you are purchasing several tickets and want to sit together. For matches against Real Madrid (El Clásico), if tickets are available and you can afford them, buy them now because you may not get a second chance!

Overview of the stadium and sections

As I said earlier in this post, Camp Nou is the largest football stadium in Europe and seats almost a hundred thousand people. It is well-designed, and wherever you sit in the stadium, you will have a good view of the pitch. Having said that, the higher seats are quite a long way from the pitch.

The stadium is divided into four main sections: Lateral, Tribuna (grandstand), Gol Sud (south goal) and Goal Nord (north goal).

Seats in the lateral and grandstand sections generally give a better overview of the match and are, therefore, more expensive than the seats behind the goals. Conversely, the goal sections give you a better view of the goals, but you don’t get such a good view of the pitch as a whole.

Each of the four sections is divided into three levels. The first level is nearest to the pitch; the third level is high up in the stands. The second level is somewhere in between. The second and third sections are further divided into upper and lower areas.

Another section that I haven’t mentioned yet is corner , which is a hybrid between the other sections and has some of the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Choosing the best tickets for your budget and preferences

Generally speaking, seats in the lateral and grandstand sections give you a better overall view of the match and allow you to see what’s going on tactically. They are also slightly more expensive.

Conversely, seats in the goal sections will give you a better view of the goals (duh), but you don’t get such a good overview of the match because viewing the pitch lengthwise gives a distorted perspective.

Apart from the view, another thing to consider when choosing your seats is the atmosphere. Seeing Barça play live isn’t the same as watching them on TV, and to me, the atmosphere is a major part of the experience.

Most die-hard football fans prefer to sit behind the goals, and this is where you will get the best atmosphere. This is especially true of Gol Nord , which is where the Grada de Animació is located, which is the area where the hardcore fans sit.

Whichever section you decide to sit in, the first level is closer to the pitch and gives you a better view of the players, whereas the second and third levels give you a better overview of the match.

One thing which isn’t obvious from the seating plan is the fact that the seats further back on the lowest level are beneath the second level, which forms a roof over them and, depending on where you are seated, may obstruct the view of part of the pitch. Because of this, I generally recommend purchasing seats on the second level.

Personally, I think that seeing a Barça game live is more about atmosphere and action rather than appreciating the finer tactical points of the game. Because of this, I recommend buying seats in the lower part of the second level behind the goals.

To me, this is a good compromise between being fairly close to the action whilst still getting a decent view of the game. They are also fairly cheap seats and typically cost between €50 and €100 per person for fixtures in La Liga. Slightly more if it’s an important match, or a lot more if it’s a Champions League fixture or “El Clásico”.

The map which appears on your ticket to see FC Barcelona play at the Camp Nou

When booking multiple tickets, the booking system will attempt to seat you together in pairs of seats. However, you need to be aware that the system counts seats in front and behind each other, plus diagonally and on either side of an aisle as “sitting together”.

When you receive your tickets, the seat numbers won’t be sequential. This is because the seats on one side of the aisle are even numbers, and on the other side are odd numbers. For example, seats 10 and 12 are next to each other.

I recommend that you purchase your tickets through one of the following official channels:

  • Online from the FC Barcelona website
  • Online from official ticket agents such as P1 Travel
  • At the box office at Camp Nou
  • At one of the official Barça Stores in Barcelona

For most league matches, you could probably wait until you are in Barcelona and purchase your tickets at one of the official Barça Stores two days before the match takes place. However, you would get a better seat if you purchased your tickets online in advance .

For more important league games, then you should definitely purchase tickets a week or two in advance.

You will probably find that you can’t purchase tickets for Champions League and Europa League fixtures from the FC Barcelona website. This is because, in recent years, there has been a clampdown on the sale of tickets to visiting fans. In this case, you will either have to purchase tickets through the rival team’s website or book a VIP package through P1 Travel .

2. Getting to Camp Nou

Camp Nou is located in the Les Corts neighbourhood, which is about four kilometres from the city centre. The address of the stadium is Carrer d’Arístides Maillol, 12, 08028 Barcelona.

Public transport options

The cheapest and most convenient way to get to Camp Nou is by public transport. There are several options available, the most popular of which is to use the metro. Travel cards, such as the Hola Barcelona Travel Card , are valid for transport to and from the match.

The easiest way to get to Camp Nou is by metro . There are four metro stations near the ground. Two of the stations are on the L5 (Collblanc & Badal), and three are on the L3 (Les Corts, Maria Cristina and Palau Reial). Which station you choose will depend on where you are travelling from, which will decide which line you arrive on and where your seat is, which will dictate which of the two stations on each line is nearest.

Getting to Camp Nou by metro is very easy. When you alight from the metro at your chosen station, you’ll see a pictogram above the platform indicating the way to the stadium. If there’s a match on and it’s less than two hours until kickoff, you can safely assume that everyone will be going to the match and just follow the crowds to the stadium.

Speaking of crowds. Barcelona is a very safe city, but, like many other large European cities, it does suffer from pick-pockets who work in crowded places. Overcrowded metro cars crammed with football fans make for easy pickings, and you should be extra vigilant.

Signs to the Camp Nou in Barcelona

There are two tram stops close to the stadium, Pius XII and Avinguda de Xile , although the tram system isn’t such a popular choice because it doesn’t reach the city centre. However, that will change soon as the lines are currently being extended.

There are fifteen bus routes which stop near Camp Nou and, if one of them happens to stop near your hotel, they can also be a good option although I personally prefer the metro because it’s easier to understand.

If you are travelling to Barcelona by train, it only takes about thirty minutes to walk from Barcelona’s main train station, Barcelona Sants, to Camp Nou. Alternatively, both the L3 and L5 metro lines stop at the Sants Esatció metro station, which is linked to the train station.

Driving and parking near Camp Nou

If you’re staying in Barcelona and have a car, I do not recommend that you drive to the stadium for the game . Driving’s not a good way to get around at the best of times, with heavy traffic and few places to park, but on a match day, things are worse than normal, especially in the area surrounding Camp Nou.

If you are travelling to the match from outside Barcelona, then there are several car parks located near the stadium where you can park your car during the match, although you do need to book a space in advance.

There is also a car park at the Camp Nou stadium, but parking spaces are allocated to season ticket holders and club members only. Non-members may only park in the Camp Nou car park up until four hours before the match.

To avoid traffic jams, it’s a good idea to park your car several hours before the match starts. If you have time, I recommend you drive to Barcelona in the morning and spend the day visiting a few of Barcelona’s top sights before returning to Camp Nou in time for kick-off.

Barça fans approaching the Camp Nou stadium from gate number 15, you can see signs which guide you to the museum.

Hotels and the best area to stay to see a match at the Camp Nou

Camp Nou is in the Les Corts neighbourhood of Barcelona . Although there are several good hotels nearby, including the NH Barcelona Stadium and the Hotel SOPHIA Barcelona , it’s not an area that I usually recommend. This isn’t because Les Corts is a bad neighbourhood per se. It’s just that apart from Camp Nou; there’s not much else which is of interest to tourists in the area.

I normally recommend the area around Plaça de Catalunya as an ideal location for first-time visitors to Barcelona. This recommendation still holds if you will be seeing a match at Camp Nou. This very central location is close to many of Barcelona’s top attractions and has direct public transport connections to both Barcelona Airport and Camp Nou.

If you decide to stay elsewhere, then I recommend you look for a hotel close to a stop on either the L5 or L3 metro lines in either the Eixample district or the Gothic Quarter . For more information, check out my in-depth guide to where to stay in Barcelona .

3. Pre-match atmosphere & preparation

Most fans wear at least one item of clothing, which indicates their allegiance to their club and their favourite player, typically a Barça shirt or scarf. However, it’s by no means compulsory, and you shouldn’t feel that you have to purchase a shirt. Indeed, you’ll see plenty of people at the match who aren’t wearing any merchandise.

One thing which you do need to be aware of is that tickets sold by the cub and through official ticket agents are for seats in the area reserved for Barça supporters. It’s forbidden to wear shirts, scarves or symbols of the rival team when seated in this area.

Although it’s not uncommon to see rival fans sitting amongst Barça fans at La Liga games, the rules are more strictly enforced for matches against foreign teams.

Merchandising and fan etiquette aside, the thing which you really need to take into consideration when deciding what to wear is the weather. The stadium is open to the elements, and if it rains, in most seats, you will get wet. Thankfully it doesn’t rain too often in Barcelona, but in winter, you will need to wrap up warm, especially for nine pm kickoffs. I recommend that you check the forecast before going to the ground and dress accordingly.

A refreshment stand selling fast food inside the Camp Nou stadium, Barcelona

Where to eat and drink near Camp Nou

There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the streets surrounding Camp Nou which cater to football fans, many with tables on the street where you can eat and drink outside.

If you want a pre-match beer and tapas, then Taller de Tapas (Travessera de les Corts 64) comes very highly recommended, as does Bodega Montferry (Passatge de Serra i Arola, 13).

My favourite vegetarian restaurant in the area is La Riera (Carrer del Regente Mendieta 15), or for more upmarket cuisine; you could reserve a table at Can Fusté (Gran Via de Carles III, 50-52).

There are also a couple of tapas bars located inside Camp Nou, although when there’s a match on, you either have to arrive early or wait for a table.

Finally, there are fast food stands that sell the ubiquitous “bocatas” (sandwiches made with baguettes), fries, popcorn and soft drinks, including alcohol-free larger.

Purchasing Barça merchandise

Barçelona shirts, scarves and other merch is widely available throughout the city. Official men’s shirts cost around ninety euros and can be purchased from Barça Stores, department stores and sporting goods shops. The Barça Stores also sell so-called players edition shirts, which are replicas of the actual shirts worn by the team and currently cost around €160.

If you can’t run to the price of an official shirt, then you’ll see knockoff copies at slightly lower prices in souvenir shops and at street stalls outside the ground. Prices and quality of the non-official shirts vary, and you should be wary of shops which don’t display prices.

If you can’t justify spending ninety-odd euros on an official shirt but don’t want to buy a fake. The Barça stores also sell pre-match shirts and vintage-style shirts, which cost between fifty and sixty euros, which is about the same as the souvenir shops charge for the fake shirts.

The best place to shop for Barcelona merchandising is at the megastore at Camp Nou or at one of the Barça Stores near the city centre. If you left it to the last minute, then there are also Barça Stores at the airport.

4. Inside the stadium

Rules for entering the camp nou stadium.

The following rules appear in the email with your tickets to the match:

  • Once purchased, tickets cannot be changed, upgraded or refunded.
  • FC Barcelona reserves the right of admission.
  • FC Barcelona is not responsible for any ticket that has not been purchased through official channels.
  • If the ticket is damaged, torn or shows signs of forgery, FC Barcelona can forbid the bearer access to the premises.
  • Items not allowed to enter the premises include; alcoholic beverages, weapons or any item that could be used as such. Flares, fireworks or any flammable object. The introduction and exhibition of banners, symbols, emblems or slogans that might incite violence.
  • Ticket holders will not be allowed entrance to the stadium while; Being under the sanction forbidding entry to any sports facilities. Being under the effects of alcoholic drinks, narcotics, psychotropic drugs, stimulants or similar substances.
  • This ticket cannot be used for promotional purposes, nor can it be resold without the explicit permission of FC Barcelona.
  • Please note that all spectators – including children under the age of eight – must have a valid ticket.
  • Standing in the stands is forbidden. Please remain in your allocated seat.
  • To guarantee safety within the stadium and to comply with the regulations in force, FC Barcelona may deny access to the stadium to fans wearing clothing or emblems of the rival team.
  • Fans of the rival team have to purchase tickets by contacting their respective club.

Showing your tickets

Match tickets include a QR Code , which is scanned by the turnstiles at the gates of the stadium. You can either print your ticket out or show it directly from your phone.

Personally, I like to save my tickets to Google Drive. That way, if something happens to my phone or the battery runs out, I can still access my tickets from a friend’s phone. Another alternative, when travelling as part of a group, is to share your tickets via email or WhatsApp.

The position of your seats in the stadium is defined by ACCESS, GATE, BOCA, ROW and SEAT.

ACCESS refers to the point of access to the grounds around the stadium from the street outside. There is usually a short queue here as everyone entering the stadium is searched by security guards looking for prohibited items.

GATE is the entrance to the stadium itself, where you have to scan the QR code on your ticket, and your ID may be checked. At this point, you enter the concrete superstructure of the stadium and climb some stairs up to the stands.

BOCA is the gate out to the stands, where the seats are. As you come out of the “boca” and walk down the aisle between the rows of seats, there are metal plaques with the row number at the end of each row.

Seat numbers alternate so that all of the even number seats of a row are to one side of the aisle, and all of the odd numbers are to the other side. This means that if you’ve purchased a pair of seats on the same row, they should both either be even or odd numbers. The only exception will be if they are on either side of an aisle.

Food and drink inside the stadium

You are allowed to bring your own food and drink into the stadium. The only restriction is that drinks must be non-alcoholic, in plastic bottles and not more than 500ml.

You will be searched at the entrance to the stadium, and any alcohol, oversized plastic bottles, glass bottles or cans will be taken from you and disposed of.

Close-up of Barça players during a match

Chants, songs and traditions

Barça fans are called Culers , which is derived from the Catalan word for backside. The name dates back to before Camp Nou was built when the club played in a smaller stadium. Apparently, when the ground was full, fans used to sit on the perimeter wall, and as you approached, you’d see a row of backsides hanging over the wall.

When Barça play at home, the club’s anthem is played over the tannoy system shortly before kickoff. The anthem was written during the nineteen seventies and is basically a statement of unity and encouragement for the players. I’ve included the lyrics below, but even if you don’t have time to learn the words, you can still join in with the crowd shouting “Barça, Barça, Bar-ça” at the end of each verse.

Throughout the game, you’ll hear fans chanting to encourage the players; this is especially true if you are seated at the northern end of the pitch where the die-hard fans sit. This video from YouTube includes thirty of the most popular fan chants with English subtitles.

5. After the match

Leaving the stadium & catching the metro back to your hotel after the game.

Camp Nou is a relatively modern stadium, and despite the high capacity, there are plenty of gates, and things are organised in such a way that the crowd can leave the stadium quite quickly.

The bottleneck comes when the crowd reaches the metro system. As I said above, the metro really is the best way to get to a match, and prior to the match, although the metro is more crowded than usual, things still go quite smoothly. This is because fans arrive progressively during the two-hour period leading up to the game. However, when the match finishes, up to a hundred thousand fans descend on four metro stations; the metro stations and trains are therefore very crowded.

There are two possible ways to avoid the crowds;

  • Leave the match five minutes before it finishes.
  • Remain in the stadium for half an hour after the match finishes.

Whichever option you choose, if you are using the metro to return to your hotel, I recommend you walk to the stop prior to Camp Nou and catch the metro from there. That way, you’ll board the train before it gets crowded.

If you are catching the L3 green line, you should walk to the Zona Universitaria metro station.

If you are catching the L5, blue line, walk to Ernest Lluch .

By walking an extra five minutes, you should avoid the crowds at the metro stations, although many locals use the same trick so you won’t be alone.

Where to celebrate with other Barça fans

After the match, fans traditionally celebrate at the Canaletas Fountain, which is an old cast iron fountain at the end of the La Rambla near Plaça de Catalunya.

This tradition dates back to the 1930s when a local newspaper had its headquarters in front of the fountain. In an era before TV, fans who weren’t at the game used to wait outside the newspaper’s offices to hear the results.

If you don’t want to wait until you get to the Canaletas Fountain to celebrate, then you’ll find plenty of bars in the streets surrounding the ground where fans congregate to watch the match and celebrate the club’s victories.

Other Barça related things to see and do in Barcelona

If you’re in Barcelona to see a match, then you’ll undoubtedly want to see some of the city’s most popular sights, such as the Sagrada Familia , Park Güell and the Gothic Quarter. Here are a few ideas for other Barça related sites which you can visit:

1. The Camp Nou Experience & FC Barcelona Museum

Even when there isn’t a match on, Camp Nou is one of the most popular attractions in Barcelona. The Camp Nou Experience gives access to the changing rooms, the pitch, the dugout, press boxes and the FC Barcelona museum, which is home to Barça’s impressive collection of trophies and explains the club’s history.

Although you can visit the museum up until three hours before kickoff, the tour of the stadium isn’t available on match days, so I recommend you visit the day before. That way, you can learn more about the club and buy any last-minute merch at the Barça Store.

Read my full article about the Camp Nou museum and tour here >>

2. Canaletas Fountain

The Canaletas Fountain is a relatively unobtrusive cast iron fountain located on Las Ramblas, near Plaça de Catalunya. This is where Barça fans congregate to celebrate the club’s victories, a tradition which dates back to the 1930s.

Tradition has it that anyone who drinks from the Canaletas Fountain is sure to return to the city.

Other places to watch Barça play in Barcelona

If you haven’t got a ticket to see the match at Camp Nou, if Barça is playing when you’re in Barcelona, I highly recommend that you watch the match with the locals in a bar.

It’s an overused stereotype, but football really is much more than just a game in Barcelona, and when there’s a match on, the city’s bars set up TV screens and fill with people watching their team play.

I recommend you choose a bar close to your hotel and enjoy the game with the locals. If it’s an important match, you should arrive early to secure a seat, and even then, you may find that the best seats have already been reserved by regulars.

If you prefer to watch the game with other English speakers, then there are plenty of Irish Pubs and Sports Bars, all of which show football on large screens.

Did I miss anything? As always, if you’ve any questions, leave a comment below, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Is it ever possible to the team practice? My family and I will be in Barcelona March 22-30, and unfortunately leave early on the 30th. As far as I can tell, there is no game while we are there. Just wondering if, perhaps, there is an opportunity to watch the team practicing.

It’s a shame you’re not staying a day or two longer, because Barça play at home on the 31st of March.

Unfortunately, training sessions are held behind closed doors at the Ciutat Esportiva in Sant Joan Despí and the public aren’t normally allowed to attend.

Barça 7-0 Athletic Club: No let up from the Champions

Another exhibition from Barça Women in the Estadi Johan Cruyff as Jonatan Giráldez's team made light work of Athletic Club with a 7-0 win on the day the team celebrated winning the league title with the fans inside the stadium.

Mariona: 300 games and a brace

Athletic Club performed the traditional guard of honour for the league champions as the sides came out on to the field in the Estadi Johan Cruyff. Also, before the game there were moments for both Patri Guijarro and Mariona Caldentey who have both reached 300 appearances for Barça Women in official competition. Striker Caldentey celebrated in the best way possible by giving the blaugranes the lead from the penalty spot after 9 minutes.

Before the half hour was up, Barça were 3-0 up at home to the Basques. First, Bruna Vilamala scored with a shot from distance before she turned provider for Vicky López to make it three. The crowd of over 5,000 were not finished and there were more goals after the break.

Esmee Brugts added a fourth with a near post finish on 56 minutes and Vicky López scored her second of the game to make it 5-0 on the hour mark. Mariona crowned her 300th game for Barça with her second of the evening and the Club's 3,000th in the league in the first and second divisions.

2024 Champions League final: All you need to know

Article summary

The 2023/24 UEFA Champions League final will take place at London's historic Wembley Stadium.

Article top media content

Wembley Stadium in London will host the 2024 Champions League final on Saturday 1 June

Article body

The best of the best will be crowned on the ultimate stage when the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League season concludes at London's prestigious Wembley Stadium on Saturday 1 June.

This is the 69th season of Europe's elite club competition and the 32nd since it was renamed the UEFA Champions League.

Who is playing in the Champions League final?

Borussia Dortmund were first to confirm their place in the final with a 2-0 aggregate victory over Paris Saint-Germain . They will take on 14-time champions Real Madrid, who secured their own ticket to London with a dramatic 4-3 aggregate victory over Bayern München .

Where is the Champions League final?

The highlight of European football's club calendar returns to the London venue for a record eighth time, and the third in the UEFA Champions League era following the 2011 and 2013 finals.

Wembley has undergone a massive transformation since it hosted the last old-style European Champion Clubs' Cup final in 1992 , the famous twin towers arena making way for a new venue symbolised by the gigantic arch. Boasting a seated capacity of around 90,000, the new Wembley reopened its doors in 2007 and is once again home to the England national side, as well as host to the nation's premier domestic cup finals.

Wembley Stadium also hosted all three of England's Group D games at UEFA EURO 2020 , as well as two round of 16 matches, both semi-finals and the final itself , with the hosts only denied their maiden triumph in the competition on penalties against Italy. The outcome was more successful for England at UEFA Women's EURO 2022, as the Lionesses overcame Germany 2-1 after extra time to become European champions for the first time.

How to watch the Champions League final

Details of where to watch the Champions League final will appear here.

Is there extra time and penalties in the Champions League final?

Yes. If the score is level at the end of normal time, two 15-minute periods of extra time are played. If one of the teams scores more goals than the other during extra time, that team is declared the winner. If the score remains level after extra time, the winner is determined by a penalty shoot-out.

Who is the referee for the Champions League final?

Slovenia's Slavko Vinčić will referee the game. He will be officiating his second UEFA club competition final after his appointment as the referee for the 2022 UEFA Europa League final between Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers. The full refereeing team can be found here .

What do the Champions League winners get?

The UEFA Champions League trophy stands 73.5cm tall and weighs 7.5kg. "It may not be an artistic masterpiece, but everybody in football is keen to get their hands on it," said creator Jürg Stadelmann.

The 2023/24 UEFA Champions League winners will also automatically qualify for next season's league phase if they do not earn a place via their domestic league position.

Champions League winner rebalancing

What happens if the UEFA Champions League winners have also qualified for the league phase via their domestic league position?

What happens if the UEFA Champions League winners have also qualified for the league phase via their domestic league position?

Lastly, the European champions also earn the right to play against the winners of the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League in the 2024 UEFA Super Cup in Warsaw, Poland .

Who's performing at the Friday Night Show?

Rudimental will headline the first Friday Night Show in five years on 31 May to kick off UEFA Champions League final weekend in London .

A tribute to Don Andres

With anecdotes, stats and trivia, FIFA pays homage to Spain and Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta as he turns 40.

Tears and posters Tears and posters

Fuentealbilla has a population of around 2,000. When a 12-year-old Iniesta left it for Barcelona – a metropolis with 1.6 million inhabitants – he “cried rivers”. It didn’t get much better for him at La Masia. He was innately shy, self-conscious because a skin pigmentation rendered him pale. “I cried myself to sleep every night,” he said. “I wanted to go home but my dad kept talking me into staying.” Iniesta hung posters of Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta Jones and Barcelona captain Pep Guardiola beside his bunk. When the latter witnessed him play, on the prompting of his brother Pere, he declared, “I’ve seen a 14-year-old who reads the game better than me.” Guardiola sent Iniesta a signed photograph addressed to “the best player I have ever seen”. Uplifted, the kid began to feel less self-conscious and interact more with his colleagues.

First impressions First impressions

Out of the blue, Iniesta was summoned to train with Barcelona’s first-team squad in February 2001. Jitters turned to panic when he got lost, but Luis Enrique was sent to find the 16-year-old. His nerves didn’t show once finally out on grass. Guardiola pulled Xavi, 21, aside and told him: “Remember this day – the day you first played with Andres. You’re going to retire me. This lad is going to retire us all.”

International starlet International starlet

Iniesta, alongside Fernando Torres, starred at the FIFA U-17 World Cup™ in 2001, though a 4-2 loss to an Argentina side including Pablo Zabaleta, Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez saw Spain crash out in the group stage. The Albaceteno was then one of the standout performers at the FIFA U-20 World Cup™ two years later, helping La Roja finish runners-up to Brazil.

No thanks, Madrid No thanks, Madrid

Real Madrid tried to sign Iniesta in 2007. “He was a phenomenon,” said their former director Predrag Mijatovic. “He had a very high release clause, but we really wanted him and were determined to pay it.” Fortunately for Culés , despite contract talks with Barelona having broken down, he declared: “When I say I want to retire at Barça , I say it with all my heart. This wish comes before everything else.” Iniesta eventually agreed on a new contract in 2008, with his buy-out clause being hiked from €60 million to €150 million. That still didn’t put Madrid off, who went in for him the following year. “I’m very surprised by the speculation because I’ve always been very clear: I want to spend the rest of my career at Barça .”

Ecstasy in Austria Ecstasy in Austria

Iniesta was pivotal as Spain won their first UEFA EURO crown in 44 years in 2008. He was the only member of Luis Aragones’s squad to start every game, was named Man of the Match in a semi-final defeat of Russia, and dazzled in the final victory over Germany at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna.

The main man The main man

If Iniesta’s contribution to Barcelona’s 2005/06 UEFA Champions League triumph was bit-part, his contribution to their glory three seasons later was instrumental. An improvised, outside-of-the-boot finish from outside the box, deep into stoppage time, snatched them victory over Chelsea in the semi-finals.

“I'm not obsessed with Messi, said Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson before the final. “Iniesta’s the one we have to stop.” Unfortunately for the Scot, his troops couldn’t, as he set up the first and sparkled throughout a 2-0 win in Rome.

Rock bottom Rock bottom

The sudden death of Dani Jarque, his close friend and former Spain youth team-mate, in August 2009 crushed Iniesta. “I fell into a deep depression,” he said. “I was in a really, really bad place.” His troubles heightened on turf. Iniesta, indeed, was plagued by injuries throughout the season, and suffered a total rupture of the right femoral biceps’ muscle in mid-April, leaving the pitch in tears. Vicente del Bosque, who was set to name Spain’s squad for the FIFA World Cup™ the following month, and Barcelona coach Guardiola both considered it extremely unlikely he would make the plane to South Africa. Iniesta made a rapid recovery but was only able to see another half-hour of action in Blaugrana before the campaign concluded – one in which he registered just one goal in 40 appearances. Despite that, Del Bosque included him in his squad, admitting it was a “big risk” and that he only took it because it was Iniesta. The player later admitted travelling to the World Cup with his confidence shot.

Durban disaster Durban disaster

Spain were the pre-tournament favourites – a status that was shed at the first hurdle. If being stunned 1-0 by Switzerland wasn’t devastating enough – no side had lost their opener and recovered to win a World Cup – their No6 hitting the Moses Mabhida Stadium turf in agony, after a ferocious Stephan Lichtsteiner challenge, heightened the blow. “I thought that was it,” said Iniesta. “I didn’t want to do any tests the next day because I was sure I would be on a flight back to Barcelona.” Iniesta missed the 2-0 win over Honduras and had all but accepted his tournament was over until Spain’s physical therapist scored a fundamental goal in their quest for global glory. “At one point I was working on that spot and while I did, it loosened up,” explained Raul Martinez. Iniesta added: “He pressed the button and it was immediate. I felt the muscle had loosened. I moved and ran freely, which I had not done in a long time. Thanks to him I was back playing like I wanted.”

Career capstone Career capstone

Spain required victory over a formidable Chile side in their final Group H game to make sure of a place in the knockout phase. Iniesta’s winner secured it, then he excelled as they tiki-taka’d their way to the Soccer City showpiece. One-hundred-and-sixteen goalless minutes had passed. Iniesta, a left-lying playmaker, uncharacteristically appeared in a right-sided position a striker would usually take up. “You wondered, ‘What is he doing?’ said Xavi laughing. Iniesta explained: “I knew exactly how I had to shoot and, at the same time, I knew I had to be really quick. Fate made that ball go where it had to.” It was the goal that crowned Spain world champions after 80 years of trying.

The tribute The tribute

Iniesta hadn’t planned a homage to his late friend. “Just as I was going out to warm-up for the final, the idea came to me,” he explained. “I asked a member of the delegation to make a t-shirt with a message for Dani on it. I wanted to pay tribute to him.” When his arrow his the bottom-left corner, the habitually low-key Iniesta ripped off his jersey, showcasing a t-shirt with the message, ‘Dani Jarque siempre com nosotros’ (Dani Jarque always with us), and screamed hysterically. “That moment was magical,” said Iniesta, wiping away a tear. “It was something I really wanted to do for Dani, his family. It was the perfect stage, the perfect moment to pay tribute.”

A national idol A national idol

Iniesta received multiple standing ovations from opposition fans in the season following South Africa 2010. One was even in the Catalan Derby, with the Espanyol followers indebted to him for seizing Spain football’s most prestigious trophy and for paying homage to their beloved former captain Jarque.

Unplayable Unplayable

Iniesta was arguably at the peak of his powers at EURO 2012. He was named Man of the Match in three of Spain’s six outings, electrified in a 4-0 thumping of Italy in the final, and was crowned Player of the Tournament.

Bernabeu reception Bernabeu reception

Following a cosmic exhibition in a 4-0 win at Real Madrid in 2015, Iniesta became the third player to receive a standing ovation from the Bernabeu crowd. The distinction has been bestowed upon Diego Maradona and Ronaldinho in 1983 and 2005 respectively.

Barça god Barça god

Iniesta left Camp Nou in 2018 – 22 years after he joined the club as a preteen – as one of its all-time greatest players. Overall, he won 32 titles, including four Champions Leagues and three FIFA Club World Cup™ crowns.

Stats and trivia Stats and trivia

Iniesta is known as Don Andres and ‘The Illusionist’, while his excellence and elegance have drawn comparisons to Soviet ballet lord Rudolf Nureyev.

He was named in Spain’s squad for Germany 2006 before he had even played a senior international.

Spain had gone four hours and 16 minutes without scoring in extra-time at the World Cup before Iniesta finally ended their drought at Soccer City. La Roja failed to score in the additional 30 minutes against Italy in 1934, Belgium in 1986, Yugoslavia in 1990, and Republic of Ireland and Korea Republic in 2002.

Iniesta completed 26 dribbles at South Africa 2010. It was the third most, ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi (25) and Arjen Robben (24) and trailing only Lukas Podolski (27) and surprise winner Sergio Ramos (31).

Iniesta is the only player in history to have been named man of the match in the finals of the World Cup, EURO and Champions League.

Curiously, Iniesta sported the No6 for Spain and the No8 for Barcelona, while Xavi wore the No6 for Barcelona and the No8 for Spain.

The playmaker and his father Jose Antonio own a 300-hectare vineyard in Albacete. Boasting 14 different grape varieties, Bodega Andres Iniesta produces red, white, rosé and sparkling wines.

Iniesta has played in the ninth-most victories in international football history (96). He trails Sergio Busquets (98), Jan Vertonghen (99), Xavi (100), Andres Guardado (102), Lionel Messi (113), Iker Casillas (121), Cristiano Ronaldo (126) and Sergio Ramos (131).

Quotes Quotes

“He’s like Harry Potter – one, two, three, whoosh, he’s past the player. It’s like he has a magic wand.” Luis Enrique

“He was already making impossible dribbles in his mother’s womb.” Pep Guardiola “Everybody always asks me if Messi or Ronaldo is the best. For me the answer is very clear: Andres Iniesta is the number one. He is able to pull off even more difficult things. He is a true magician.” David Silva “When I said Iniesta was the world’s best player a couple of years ago, everyone laughed. Now everyone knows I was right.” Samuel Eto’o in 2009 “Technically, he’s the most perfect player I’ve ever seen. He makes even the most difficult things look so easy. He’s like Roger Federer – he pulls off exceptional things and barely sweats.” Vicente del Bosque

“People have compared him to me and I can see the similarities. And let me tell you: that is an honour to me.” Zinedine Zidane
