Let’s Talk about 1923 on the Disney Wish

by David Mumpower · July 7, 2022

disney cruise 1923

Quick! How old is The Walt Disney Company?

You may not know the answer today, but you will soon. Disney turns 100 next year, and it’s already planned a slew of festivities to celebrate.

100 year logo

Before that happens, the Disney Wish has already started paying tribute to the earliest days of Disney.

Let’s talk about 1923, the Disney Wish restaurant that embraces the history of the Disney Brothers, Walt and Roy!

What Is 1923?

When you purchase a cruise on the Disney Wish, you’re buying the best possible cruise experience in the world today.

Disney believes this and wants you to feel that way as well. So, Disney Cruise Line has sweetened the deal by including three unique experiences in the package.

1923 Wish

As part of your basic cruise fare, you earn entry to three restaurants on the Disney Wish, each of which comes with a distinctive selling point.

The options are Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure, Worlds of Marvel with its Avengers: Quantum Encounter show, and 1923.

disney cruise 1923

You may have read MickeyBlog’s reviews of the first two options , but they’re self-explanatory anyway.

One celebrates the Frozen franchise, while the other takes guests on a gripping adventure with the Avengers.

worlds of marvel wish

1923 as a restaurant is more understated. Instead, it’s the kind of fine dining experience you’d expect on a cruise, only it’s included as part of the package.

The Disney Wish does offer two additional upscale restaurants that are pay-to-play, Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement and Palo Steakhouse.

disney cruise 1923

However, you won’t need either of them, as 1923 will deliver that special meal that makes your cruise unforgettable.

At its core, 1923 embraces Disney’s heritage throughout the dining hall. Even the division of the seating reinforces this point.

disney cruise 1923

You’ll either sit in the Roy O. Disney or Walt Disney section. Yes, the options are the founding Disney brothers who made it all possible!

The Décor of 1923

Have you ever seen pictures of or maybe even dined at Club 33? That’s perhaps the closest comparison to the tasteful décor of 1923.

disney cruise 1923

Disney history is seemingly everywhere, with displays of animated film imagery and scale model figurines of characters like Cinderella.

You’ll gawk at the various displays as you enter the restaurant and may get so distracted that you forget you’re starving.

disney cruise 1923

Once you’re seated, that behavior may continue. The various tables at the restaurant reside beside tributes to various Disney animated classics.

You could spend your whole meal admiring the art and style of Be Our Guest because there’s a four-foot-tall pencil sketch of Beast right beside you!

disney cruise 1923

Disney indicates that more than 1,000 individual pieces of Disney memorabilia are on display. If you’re anything like me, you’ll try to look at all of them!

As for the seating, 1923’s setup differs from Arendelle or Worlds of Marvel. Since those places offer shows, their seating proves more social.

disney cruise 1923

At 1923, you’re eating a more intimate meal with your loved ones. The tables are primarily four-tops, and you won’t have strangers sitting beside you.

For that reason alone, you’ll adore 1923 on days when you’re in the mood for a bit more privacy.

Disney Wish dining

I keep comparing these three experiences because Disney describes them as rotational dining.

You can eat at each one during your three- or four-night stay. However, when you throw Palo and Enchanté into the mix, you may need to choose.

enchante

My suggestion is that you select Arendelle if you’re traveling with smaller children or Frozen fanatics. But, of course, the same statement applies to Worlds of Marvel as well.

Conversely, 1923 appeals to Disney fans who want to know more about the company’s history. Also, this place is great for foodies. In fact…

Dining at 1923

Look, you’re on a Disney cruise ship. All the food will put a smile on your face and keep it there the entire vacation.

Nobody does escapism like Disney, and its cruise line is even better. Once you board the Disney Wish, you’ll forget the outside world for a time.

disney cruise 1923

As part of your trip, you’ll want to eat the kind of cuisine whose memories will keep you warm at night long after you’ve returned to shore.

The whole point of taking a cruise is bragging about the food, right?

disney cruise 1923

Among the included options on the Disney Wish, 1923 surpasses its peers. It’s the definitive choice for foodies.

1923 focuses on California cuisine, but the menu’s diversity stretches into several other continents like Asia, Europe, and South America.

disney cruise 1923

As with the other rotational dining options, 1923 provides guests with their choice of soups, salads, appetizers, and bread service.

Remember that these restaurants are all-you-care-to-enjoy. So, if you like something, order as much of it as you want!

disney cruise 1923

Something that elevates 1923 is the plating. You’ll consider your entire meal Insta-worthy and should keep your phone handy for a few quick pics.

You can look at the entrees in the adjoining photos!

disney cruise 1923

I also haven’t focused much on desserts since you’re on a cruise ship. You’ll always be eating dessert!

Still, 1923 deserves special mention for Churros Calientes. They’re sugar spice churros with dulce de leche as the dipping sauce. This stuff is ambrosia!

Final Thoughts

Some MickeyBloggers ate at all three of the rotational dining experiences. The consensus was that 1923 offered the best food of the bunch.

As for the ambiance, it’s a nostalgic ode to Walt and Roy Disney! What could be better than that?

disney cruise 1923

This place will make anyone happy to the point that Palo and Enchanté almost feel superfluous.

You don’t need to pay more when the standard cruise fare includes 1923!

disney cruise 1923

While Arendelle and Worlds of Marvel provide dinner and a show, sometimes you only want a perfect meal.

In those instances, 1923 is the clear choice!

First Look at The Walt Disney Company 1923 Restaurant on the Disney Wish

1923 Restaurant

First Look at The Walt Disney Company 1923 Restaurant on the Disney Wish. We are finally onboard Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship the Disney Wish . Our first stop after a long morning is the 1923 restaurant which pays homage to The Walt Disney Company’s history. Check out some of our first images on board.

Animation has been at the heart of The Walt Disney Company from the very beginning. When Walt and his brother Roy started the company on Oct. 16, 1923, it was Hollywood’s first cartoon studio … and it was only a matter of time before their animated films revolutionized the entertainment industry.

Named for the year The Walt Disney Company was founded,  1923  is one of the three main dining venues families will enjoy each night on board the Disney Wish. This elegant restaurant combines classic Hollywood glamour with a dash of Disney whimsy, providing an inside look at the evolution of Disney animation.

1923 Restaurant

Adorning the walls and ornate glass cases around the restaurant are more than 1,000 drawings, props, and other tools of the trade showcasing 16 Disney films that embody the ship’s themes of enchantment and wish fulfillment. Many of these stories also hold a significant role in the history and legacy of the company, such as:

  • “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1937), the world’s first feature-length animated film ever.
  • “Fantasia” (1940), a boundary-pushing project that introduced Fantasound (the precursor to stereophonic sound).
  • “Cinderella” (1950), which ushered in a new golden age of animated features.
  • “The Little Mermaid” (1989), a generation-defining classic that paved the way for “Beauty and the Beast” (1991), “The Lion King” (1994”) and other animated tales we know and love today.

Even the menu at 1923 pays tribute to the company’s roots in California, with sophisticated dishes inspired by the fusion of cultural flavors found throughout the Golden State. The diverse menu will mirror the region’s unique blend of Asian, European and South American cuisines and a superlative selection of world-famous Napa Valley wines.

1923 on the Disney Wish tables

1923 is one of the three new restaurants aboard the Disney  Wish , the latest Disney Cruise Line to set sail.

I was able to experience the Disney  Wish   recently, including 1923 , and I am happy to share that it completely exceeded expectations!

1923 on the disney wish

When you arrive, you will be seated in one of two dining rooms, each named after the Disney siblings — Roy and Walt. We were assigned the Walt Disney side, which was filled with various drawings, sketches and other animation props, giving a more elegant Animator’s Palette vibe.

drinks at 1923 on the disney wish

We were seated near the window, giving us an incredible view as we enjoyed our meal. The atmosphere of 1923 blew me away the instant I stepped through the doors.

We ordered the The Buena Vista Boulevardier, which was Woodford Chocolate Rye, Campari, Lillet Rouge. It cost $12.00 and was absolutely delicious!

appetizers at 1923 on the disney wish

As a starter, I ordered the Hyperion Four-Cheese Tri-Color Tortelloni, which consisted of Meyer Lemon, Artichoke, Sun-dried Tomato, and Baby Spinach and I devoured it! One of the best food items I have ever tasted.

salmon dinner at 1923 on the disney wish

For my main entree, I decided to try the Seared Verlasso Salmon Filet, which is described as Californian Wild Honey Parsnip Purée, Orange Fennel Essence, Sautéed Black Garlic Rapini. It was very good, not the best salmon I have ever had, but very close. Some bites were a bit too salty for me, but overall the dish exceeded expectations.

dessert at 1923 on the disney wish

And of course, we had to save room for dessert. This was by far the best dessert menu aboard the Disney Cruise ship. Every single dessert we ordered was delicious. Pictured above is the Burbank Blueberry-Lemon Bavarian Cream, which is described as Ecuador Vanilla Bean, Lemon Rocks, Dried Raspberry Meringue.

Overall, I feel 1923 doesn’t get enough love as it is hidden in the shadows of Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure and Worlds of Marvel. But honestly, this was easily my favorite restaurant aboard the Disney  Wish.

Disney Cruise Line describes 1923 as:

Named for the year The Walt Disney Company was founded, 1923 celebrates the golden age of animation. Indulge your senses with the best of California cuisine. Inspired by the fusion of cultural flavors found throughout the Golden State, 1923 features a diverse menu showcasing the region’s unique blend of Asian, European and South American influences. Dishes are prepared with a bounty of sunshine-infused ingredients like wild honey, earthy pistachios and gloriously fresh fruits and veggies bursting with flavor. All paired, of course, with a fine selection of wines from California’s world-renowned Napa Valley.

Rotational Dining On the Disney Wish: 1923

Yesterday, we explored the space and menu at Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure , one of the main family dining rooms aboard the Disney Wish. Today, we’re going to take a close look at 1923 which is another one of the main dining rooms that is included in your cruise fare as part of the rotational dining that is offered by Disney Cruise Line. You can find details and information for Worlds of Marvel here .

Before we get started with the food, let’s talk a bit about the atmosphere of this restaurant. To be sure, I have not stepped foot into this space just yet, but the photos take my breath away. I can’t help but wonder if these images – like many – don’t do the restaurant justice but at the same time, I am blown away by just how gorgeous it looks. From the props of some of my very favorite films to the drawings that are also weaved into the displays, I feel like I might be leaving my table often to have a look around once I’m inside. I also might be stopping by during the day to take a peek – more than once.

disney cruise 1923

As we’ve learned, 1923 is named after the year The Walt Disney Company was founded and is an elegant celebration of the company’s legacy, paying homage to the golden age of animation and offering a tasteful tribute to its Californian heritage. Seeing these photos makes me feel like the space foots the bill.

disney cruise 1923

Let’s take a tour of the menu at this establishment now that we’ve had the chance to let the atmosphere soak in just a bit.

All of the main dining rooms have a bread service that comes with a house-made dip. At 1923, it’s a Honey Butter Dip. It’s important to note that your server will gladly bring you butter if you’d prefer that so please don’t be afraid to ask.

disney cruise 1923

Out of the four available appetizers, the Burrata with Prosciutto has got my attention. I’m really not much for tuna and duck hasn’t been a favorite of mine when I’ve tried it in the past. Depending on my hunger level at the time, I could be convinced to give the Tortelloni a try.

disney cruise 1923

I’ve always had soup or salad as an appetizer, but on Disney Cruise Line, you can choose an appetizer in addition to both soup AND salad. Pack your appetite.

disney cruise 1923

I think I’d go for the romaine salad and the corn chowder, but if I’m being completely honest, all of these items sound delicious.

disney cruise 1923

There are five entreés on the regular menu and they all sound delicious. I love that there is a pasta dish and I’ve tried Verlasso salmon at The Turf Club at Walt Disney World and loved it, so I’m hoping it’s as good here. The chicken, lamb, and filet dishes also look incredible so I’m thinking that I should probably get started on booking a second cruise on the Wish.

disney cruise 1923

Neither of the vegetarian dishes are sounding appealing to me, but I would definitely try the lobster salad as it looks and sounds incredible.

disney cruise 1923

And finally, the pièce de ré·sis·tance in my world – the dessert menu.

disney cruise 1923

You guys, there are churros on the dessert menu! CHURROS! And they’re served with dulce de leche to dunk them in – YUM-O! I have to say though, the Fuji Apple Cheesecake sounds amazing as does the signature dessert. There is something about the freshness of lemon with blueberry that really floats my boat and if I have anything, it’s a big sweet tooth.

Also, Sweetly Ever After might be my most favorite name of a dessert menu EVER. I’m also in love with the little Hidden Mickey between the 2 and 3 in the name of this restaurant and I love that it’s made an appearance on the cover. The details in this restaurant seem to go on forever and I’m just so excited to step into it.

disney cruise 1923

I’d love to know which items on this lovely menu have caught your attention, so please stop by the comments and share! Be on the lookout soon for our next in-depth look at the main dining rooms on the Disney Wish – Worlds of Marvel .

Disney Wish 1923 Restaurant Menu – Here’s What Disney’s Elegant Dining is Really Like

Sharing is caring!

When you sail on Disney Wish you are going to have a great many choices of where you will dine. From fine dining to fast food burgers, Disney Wish really does have it all.

When you want to step back in time and experience a sophisticated ambiance and some really good food then head to 1923 on Disney Wish.

1923 is one of three main dining restaurants on the Disney Wish Cruise ship.

In keeping with the tradition of dining on Disney ships, guests will rotate between all three dining rooms on the Wish.

  • Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure
  • Worlds of Marvel

This is known as Rotational Dining and is unique to Disney Cruise Line.

Servers move with you each day giving them the opportunity to get to know your tastes and preferences so that they can serve you best.

disney cruise 1923

Disney Wish 1923 Restaurant Overview

The new 1923 Restaurant on the Disney Wish is themed as a tribute to the ones who started it all – Walt Disney and his brother Roy.

The restaurant is located just off the Grand Hall on Deck 3. You will notice that one side is dedicated to Walt Disney and the other side to his brother Roy.

The theme is the Golden Age of animated filmmaking.

The 1923 name comes from the year that The Walt Disney Company was founded by Walt and Roy.

As soon as you step through the beautiful glass doors you will see just what a beautiful and sophisticated space this is.

disney cruise 1923

The design and atmosphere are reminiscent of Carthay Circle Restaurant in Disneyland.

The restaurant is divided into a series of rooms – giving it a very different feel to it than the huge space of the Arendelle Restaurant.

Unusually for a Disney cruise restaurant, there are large portholes – if you manage to get allocated one of these tables they are perhaps the best seats in the house.

Take some time to look around the restaurant. The doors are open all day and you can take a look around whenever you want. It is a real treat going around the restaurant just looking at all the design features.

1923 also serves breakfast and lunch.

Don’t overlook the opportunities to dine outside of dinner time as you may find that this is one of the most enjoyable things you experience on the cruise.

1923disneywishrestaurantmenu

You can escape the chaos of Marceline Market for breakfast and lunch and instead experience the peace and quiet of 1923!

Take some time to look at the display cabinets. These contain more than 1,000 drawings, props, and artifacts. Some of the featured movies include Alice in Wonderland, Tangled, and Beauty and the Beast.

PHOTOS: Disney Wish’s New Restaurant 1923 Takes Guests Back to the Roaring 20s!

disney cruise 1923

We just got a TON of new information on the Disney Wish, sharing what will be coming to the newest ship!

disney cruise 1923

It’ll be home to impressive staterooms , fun activities , and Disney’s first-ever attraction at sea . But you know what we  really  want to talk about? The FOOD! There’s a brand-new restaurant coming to the Wish that’s going to take guests back in time, to 100 years ago when Walt first launched the company!

The new restaurant is called 1923, named after the year when the Walt Disney Company was first started. According to Disney, it’s “an elegant celebration of the company’s legacy, paying homage to the golden age of animation and offering a tasteful tribute to its Californian heritage.”

disney cruise 1923

Combining the glamour of Hollywood with the magic of Disney, the restaurant will feature two dining rooms, named for Walt Disney and his brother Roy Disney — the two men who started it all. Around these rooms, you’ll find more than 1000 drawings, props, and other memorabilia to give an inside look at the evolution of Disney animation.

disney cruise 1923

As far as cuisine goes, you’ll be able to enjoy sophisticated dishes inspired by the state of California. Disney shared that, “The diverse menu will mirror the region’s unique blend of Asian, European, and South American cuisines and will feature local ingredients like fresh produce, wild honey, and earthy pistachios.” To top it off, you can pair your meal with a selection of Napa Valley wines.

Disney Wish Main Dining Room Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Drink Menus

by Prof. Cruise · August 15, 2022

A bunch of menus from the Disney Wish and text that reads: Disney Wish Main Dining Room Menus.

A Brief Introduction to Rotational Dining on the Disney Wish

I’ll keep my hilarious and engaging commentary (said no one, not related to me, ever) to a minimum, because I know you’re just here for the menus. But for those who are new to or curious about cruising on Disney or on the Wish, you should know about “ rotational dining ,” which is unique to the line. Instead of “traditional dining” where you eat at the same restaurant, at the same time, at the same table, with the same table mates, and with the same wait staff each night or “freestyle dining” (also called “my time dining” or “anytime dining”) where you can dine at any time, with anyone you choose, at any available restaurant, with “ rotational dining ,” you’ll have the same dining time each night, the same table mates, and the same wait team, but you’ll rotate to a different restaurant each evening. On the Disney Wish, you’ll rotate among three restaurants: 1923, Arendelle, and Worlds of Marvel.

On three night cruises, you’ll dine at each restaurant once. On four night cruises, you’ll eat at one of the restaurants twice. Your rotation will be assigned in advance based on the deck number of your cabin. So, curious about what you’ll eat (and drink!) as you rotate around the ship, hopefully not becoming so dizzy as to warrant a visit to the medical center where you can finally answer a burning question I’ve had about Disney cruises for years: do the ship doctors and nurses dress up like Doc McStuffins or Baymax? Here are the menus!

How nice of you to post this for us! I should warn vegetarians that our Disney cruise ship dinner menu was absolutely awful. I’m vegetarian, my daughter is vegan, and our two grandsons are vegetarian. Daughter almost starved to death during dinner (she could find food at breakfast and buffet lunch). Every night grandsons got to choose between cheese pizza and macaroni and cheese, neither offerings being very tasty or healthy. Toward the end, I remembered my discovery on Princess that there is an off-menu Indian dinner family offering, which was entirely vegetarian. I asked our waiter if they did that aboard Disney, and they did. We picked out the vegan offerings and dined very well. Much Indian vegetarian food is protein-rich and healthy, and, of course, delicious. I was so surprised that the veg food on the Disney cruise was so awful, as a few years earlier hubby and I spent a week at Walt Disney World and got the nightly specialty dinner offering at each “Land.” It was all incredibible, both veg and non-veg (hubby). We’ve cruised many lines over the years, and Disney had by far the worst for vegetarian and vegan fare. Regarding the Indian off-menu offerings, I’m now thinking that most if not all cruise ships offer this option. Is this true? If so, vegetarians and non-vegetarians should become aware of it. We were not charged extra and could order it wherever we were for dinner. I only found this out when we sat near an Indian family on Princess at the regular dining room and noticed they were eating far better than I was.

That’s such a great tip for vegetarians (like me!) sailing on Disney! I’ve ordered off the Indian menu on several other lines (Royal Caribbean and Princess) and it’s always fantastic! Excited to try it on Disney!

That’s great to know! Do you just ask for the “Indian menu?” I feel like there is some sort of heritage-bias in asking like that. I don’t want to be rude or insulting. Looking forward to our cruise in 2 weeks!

I don’t recall exactly what I said , but we had been griping to the waitstaff that there was so little veg and vegan to choose from, and they were less than helpful (not their fault, seems to be the Disney cruise policy to really cut back on good food at dinner for vegs). Ratings on Disney cruises are not good for food, and, for veg they are dismal. I mentioned that we had been on other cruiselines where off-menu meals for Indian vegetarian food were offered, and,did they have that option? One waiter eagerly said yes and listed the meal offerings that are vegan. We ordered several (they are served family style), and they were all delicious. I got the impression that Disney corporate discourages voluntarily mentioning this option to anyone who doesn’t “look” like they might be interested in it since it probably costs them more, but our waitstaff were all delighted by our enthusiastic enjoyment of the wonderful food. We also gave waitstaff extra gratuity. I hope you have a great voyage and enjoy your meals!

Thank you so much for responding with your experience. I see a lot on the menu I would like to try but I don’t like seafood and there was one menu I wasn’t thrilled about. I will bring this up at the table that night. Thanks again!

1923 Restaurant is an Homage to Roy and Walt Disney and the Golden Age of Hollywood

Sharing is caring!

On June 30 th  the Disney   Wish , the fifth and newest ship of the Disney Cruise Line, was officially christened and set sail on a three-day cruise to the Bahamas. In this article, I’ll focus on one of the most important aspects of going on a cruise—great dining! As there is so much to report, let’s take a close look at each of the restaurants that are part of the rotational dining. Beginning with the  1923  restaurant, I will report on all of them in a series of articles to follow, so stay tuned!

1923 Restaurant

As with all Disney cruise ships, passengers experience rotational dining with an assigned dining experience for each night. The waitstaff rotates with you. It gives dinner a uniquely personalized touch. The staff knows your name and will do everything to make your dining experience special. If you do not like what you ordered or if you wish to have seconds, no problem—the waitstaff will see to it. It takes “Be Our Guest” to a whole new level.

Before going on your cruise, you get to pick your dinner seating (5:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.). But even that can be changed once on board, based upon availability.

The 1923 restaurant is the only dining venue that does not have a theatrical production during dinner, and heaven knows how grateful I became after the   Worlds of Marvel: Avengers Quantum Encounter   the next night. But let’s get back to 1923, shall we? Located on deck 3, the restaurant evokes the glamour of classic Hollywood. The name is a shoutout to the year The Walt Disney Company started in California. There are two side dining rooms, aptly name the Roy Disney and the Walt Disney. We dined in the Roy Disney section but visited both. The food features California cuisine with a nod to European, Asian, and South American cuisines.

1923 restaurant

While the restaurant features over 1,000 props and drawings of animation artwork, the decor of the two dining rooms is reminiscent of the Art Deco period of the 1920s, with iron work reminding me of   The Great Gatsby.

Dinner started with a  Bread Service : Fig and Olive Bread with a Honey Butter Dip. I loved the starters we had, and we ordered three of them! First a  Burrata Mozzarella Cheese & Prosciutto di Parma,  served with Crisp Cranberry and Sunflower Seed Phyllo and a slice of Charred Blood Orange, followed by  Alameda Porcini Spiced Ahi Tuna  with Pickled Lotus Root, Oyster Mushroom, Black Sesame Brittle, and Wasabi and Yuzu Mayonnaise. The third small plate we tasted was  Kingswell Duck Confit Pastilla  with Dates, Apricot, Ginger, Red Pepper, Saffron, and Black Raspberry Jam.

1923 restaurant

To clear the palate, so to speak, we went for the  Fennel, Bartlett Pear, and Tatsoi Salad  with Manchego Cheese, Walnuts, and Sherry Dressing.

disney cruise 1923

As for the main dishes, we tried the  1923 Peppered Filet Mignon  with Buttered Long Green Beans, Smoked Bacon, Crushed Fingerling Potato Hash, and Pink Pepper Café Au Lait ,  and my favorite, the   Italian Flat Parsley and Rosemary-crusted Rack of Lamb  with Dauphinoise Potato, Roasted Petite Turnip, Carrot and Zucchini, and Zinfandel Rosemary Sauce.

disney cruise 1923

Dinner came to a sweet end with  Churros Calientes  (Sugar Spice Churros with Dulce de Leche),  Flourless Orange Almond Cake  with Guava Gel and Lychee Yogurt Crème, and a  Coconut Tapioca Pudding  with Strawberry-Lime Salsa and Matcha Crumble.

Disney Wish Restaurants: The Ultimate Dining Guide for Your Disney Cruise

O ne of the best parts about Disney Cruises is that all of your food is included in the cost of your cruise. While a few select options will involve spending extra money on Disney, it’s absolutely doable to eat all your meals and snacks without spending an extra penny. If you’re excited about sailing on Disney’s newest ship, the Wish , then this breakdown of absolutely everywhere you can eat on board is the pre-vacation primer you’ve been waiting for.

If you’re team “I love cruises because I love food,” then this breakdown of  Disney Wish restaurants will give you all the information to help you plan your ultimate food fest at sea. Stretchy pants not included.

The coolest thing about dining on the  Disney Wish  is that it’s different. There are many similarities between dining on the other four Disney cruise ships ; for example, all four of the older ships have an Animator’s Palate. Everything on the Wish is fresh and exciting.

Main Dining Room Dining

The new Disney Wish  has three main dining rooms. As with the other four Disney Cruise Line  ships, the Wish has rotational dining. Rotational dining means that you’ll dine in a different restaurant each night, rotating through the dining rooms in a set order. What’s really cool is that your servers will rotate with you. You’ll have the same servers throughout the cruise, no matter what restaurants you eat in.

The restaurant you will dine in each night will be listed in your Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. All you have to worry about is getting to dinner the first night. After that, your serving team will make sure you know where you need to go on subsequent nights, although the dining room and menu are always listed in your Navigator app. You’ll repeat your rotation on longer cruises, but the menu will be different.

There are three main dining room restaurants on the Wish, and they’re all new. Some of the other ships have the same or very similar restaurants, but the options on the Wish are fresh.

Worlds of Marvel

World of Marvel is a Marvel-themed restaurant, as the name suggests.  Spoiler alert: the food is good, but if you’re not at least a little bit of a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this experience might not wow you.

This is dinner and a show – the show is called Quantum Encounter,  and it is played on large video screens throughout the restaurant. The lighting is dim, and the volume of the show is pretty loud, so focusing on anything other than the entertainment isn’t really an option.

The decor is futuristic, with lots of chrome and blue lighting. It reminded me a little bit of being in the queue at Space Mountain at Disney World. The table settings are very on theme with Avengers-branded bread plates and a Quantum Core centerpiece that is an integral and interactive part of the Quantum Encounter , which is hosted by Ant-Man and The Wasp. The show is virtual, but it ends with a surprise in-person encounter with an Avenger who is actually aboard the Wish .

On our cruise, we were visited in person in the dining room by Spiderman. I’ve read other reviews that say they were visited by Ant-Man and the Wasp, so there may be some variation. Surprises are good.

Food at Worlds of Marvel

The appetizer choices were smoked salmon, bao buns, hearts of palm ceviche, and crispy shrimp. Salad choices were an heirloom tomato salad and an iceberg wedge and soup choices were potato and cream of mushroom.

The entree selections were a spiced pork chop, a seafood pasta dish, a turbot filet, chicken schnitzel, and a ribeye. As with all Disney Cruise Line main dining room menus, there are vegetarian selections and a “lighter note” menu section, which always includes a salad, steak, chicken, and salmon prepared on the plain side.

The dessert selection did not disappoint and included sticky date pudding, key lime pie, chocolate torte, a donut sundae, cheesecake, and a flourless chocolate beetroot cake. DCL dessert menus always have a signature dessert, a sugar-free dessert, and some type of ice cream sundae. I go between the signature and the sugar-free, and my husband always goes for the ice cream.

I had the crispy shrimp appetizer and the Golden Mystic Pasta: angel hair pasta with caramelized sea scallops with tomatoes and spinach. For dessert, I had the cheesecake. My food was good, and I had no complaints, but it wasn’t anything to get overly excited about.

If I sail on the Wish  a second time, I might choose the night we’re scheduled to dine at Worlds of Marvel to do something else, like grab room service or quick service food on deck or book an adult dining experience. The show was pretty all-consuming, and while it was cute, once was enough.

Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure

Arendelle is Frozen-themed  dining, and if you’ve dined at Tiana’s Place on the Disney Wonder  or Rapunzel’s Royal Table on the Magic , this is the same concept. Disney has blown the theming out of the water with the Arendelle decor. The hallway into the restaurant is a full-on Frozen  Instagram fest that makes you want to unashamedly belt out a chorus of For the First Time in Forever . At least it had that effect on me.

This is for you if you love a meal with a good backstory. The story picks up where Frozen II leaves off, and the meal is a party celebrating the engagement of Anna and Kristoff. The engagement party is hosted by Elsa herself and Olaf and put on by Oaken’s “Party Planning Service and Sauna.” All the characters are in attendance, so be prepared for many squeals as these iconic modern princesses enter the dining room.

The show is in three parts, so the entertainment is not continuous as you enjoy your meal. The stage is in the center of the room, so the idea is that guests will be able to see the show from anywhere in the dining room. The tables on the outer perimeter of the restaurant will naturally get less of a good view. The characters are fun and funny, and the whole experience is lighthearted and whimsical. You do have to be at least a little bit into the whole Frozen  experience, though.

Food at Arendelle

As you might expect, the menu has a Nordic theme to it, but as with all DCL menus, there’s something designed to please all palates.

Appetizers include a charcuterie board with smoked salmon and trout, a Jarlseberg cheese and ham tart, chilled asparagus, and scallops in puff pastry. Salad offerings are cucumber, potato, and carrot salad and baby greens with lingonberry dressing, and soup choices are carrot and yellow split pea.

The entree selections were a dry-rubbed pork tenderloin, Chilean sea bass, braised meatballs on egg noodles, roasted chicken breast, and a ribeye.  As with all Disney Cruise Line main dining room menus, there are vegetarian selections and a “lighter note” menu section, which always includes a salad, steak, chicken, and salmon prepared on the plain side.

Always Room for Dessert

Desserts included apple cake, a pancake with lingonberry jam and cheesecake, butter cake, chocolate cake, and an Elsa’s Coronation Sundae with mint chocolate chip ice cream. The no-sugar dessert was a lemon almond cake with citrus salad.

I had the scallops in puff pastry appetizer, which was delicious and surprisingly hearty. My experience with DCL appetizers is mostly positive, but the portions typically aren’t huge. This was. I also tried the baby greens salad and the carrot soup. The soup was a big winner for me. I went with the vegetarian potato lefse, which was just OK. None of the desserts really spoke to me, so I used that as an excuse to order a Mickey Ice Cream Bar, which is off-menu but always available.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Check out the kids menu for dessert selections. They’re different and sometimes offer different confections adults like, too, such as red velvet cake. Disney Cruise Line is also known to be extremely accommodating and I’ve heard that if you ask for a dessert from another dining room’s menu you can get it, although I’ve never done it myself.

Best for last! Although I enjoyed all three main dining rooms on the Disney Wish , 1923 was my favorite. Although I enjoy Disney, I find myself gravitating more strongly toward any venue that’s not hyper character themed, especially now that my kids are older. 1923 is named for the year the Walt Disney Company was founded and the decor and artifacts pay homage to Disney’s early animation history.

1923 is split into two dining rooms, the Walt Disney and the Roy Disney. When you are lining up for dinner, it’s helpful to know what side your table is on but you won’t know that unless you’re already familiar with the dining room layout or you’ve taken the time to ask.

There are two lines to get into the restaurant and we waited in the Walt Disney line when our table was on the Roy Disney side, so we had to get out of one line and into another. While this was annoying for a moment, both lines moved quickly.

The vibe in 1923 is old Hollywood. There are original animation drawings located in cases throughout the restaurant, which are interesting to check out. The only drawback is the restaurant is quite crowded, and it’s difficult, if not impossible, to cruise around the restaurant looking at the displays.

Suppose you’re really interested in the art of animation… In that case, I recommend lingering and looking at the displays as the meal is coming to a close and people are leaving or choosing the table service breakfast option instead of the popular buffet, Marceline Market.

Food at 1923

The 1923 menu is California-inspired, a nod to the Walt Disney Company’s roots in the Golden State. Appetizers are spiced ahi tuna, a burrata plate, tri-color tortelloni and duck confit pastilla. Salad choices are fennel bartlett pear salad and a romaine lettuce salad with heirloom grape tomatoes. Soup offerings are pulled Guinea Hen corn chowder and a roasted tomato soup.

Main dishes included tortiglioni pasta with pancetta, seared salmon, rack of lamb, and a peppered filet mignon. As with all Disney Cruise Line main dining room menus, there are vegetarian selections and a “lighter note” menu section, which always includes a salad, steak, chicken, and salmon prepared on the plain side.

Dessert selections were churros, flourless orange almond cake, Fuji Apple cheesecake, a hot fudge sundae, blueberry lemon Bavarian cream, and a no-sugar added coconut tapioca pudding.

I had the burrata – and was thrilled to see this on the menu – the romaine salad, tomato soup, the filet and the Bavarian cream. This was my favorite meal of the cruise and I was pleased with my steak, which had received a lot of hype from the cruise podcasts I listen to.

It’s a smaller cut, which makes sense when you consider how much other food the average passenger consumes at a meal, but my only complaint is that the filet looked somewhat dry and unappetizing. It tasted great but when you conjure up an image of a juicy, perfect filet, this wasn’t it for me.

Marceline Market

Marceline Market is the Disney Wish’s  buffet restaurant on Deck 11. All other Disney Cruise Line vessels have Cabanas, so for now, Marceline Market is exclusive to the Wish.  The venue is named for the small Missouri town where Walt Disney grew up.

I’ll say upfront that I’ve never been a huge fan of Cabanas on the other ships. I always prefer to eat at the table service restaurants when I can, and when cruising, we usually confine our visits to the buffet for breakfast and occasionally lunch.

Marceline Market serves a buffet breakfast and lunch and, according to Disney Cruise Line , table service at dinner time. My family and I ate breakfast at Marceline Market once on our three-night cruise, so my assessment is based solely on that.

Breakfast at the Buffet

Breakfast at Marceline Market was extremely varied. No matter what you like for breakfast, it’s probably on the buffet. Scrambled eggs, bacon, Mickey Waffles, pancakes, fruit, pastries, yogurt – you name it – it’s probably available to you. The big difference between Cabanas and Marceline Market was that the employees plate your food at Marceline Market in most spaces instead of the guests serving themselves.

While I appreciate the nod to better health and safety, the serving process seemed extremely clunky to me. I’ve always found the Cabanas vibe chaotic and Marceline Market to be similar. That said, my food was solid.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Forego the premade scrambled eggs and find the eggs- and omelets-to-order station.

Quick Service Dining

If you don’t want to go to the dining room but aren’t vibing with the buffet, the Disney Wish has plenty of quick-service dining options. Deck 11 has the brand-new Mickey & Friends Festival of Foods, which means several food stands in one central spot. Guests can enjoy their goodies at one of the tables dotted around the deck or take their plates elsewhere on the ship. We frequently grab a few slices of pizza to munch on when we’re playing trivia and quiz games in the lounges.

The quick service food offerings include the DCL standbys of pizza and burgers, dogs, and fries. The Wish  has two new food stands, Mickey’s Smokestack Barbecue and Donald’s Cantina. I’m sorry to report that I didn’t try any of the tacos and bowls available at Donald’s Cantina. I saw the food on other passengers’ tables and it looked fresh and delicious. It was a short cruise and I just didn’t make it into the taco line.

Mickey’s Smokestack BBQ

We did try the BBQ and while we appreciated the effort to offer something new and different, our meal was a miss. We tried smoked sausage, brisket and pulled pork with baked macaroni and cheese and sweet potato fries. While the sausage and pulled pork were just okay, the brisket seasoning tasted more like pastrami than brisket.

I’ve heard other passengers rave about the BBQ so I’d try it again on the hopes that maybe I hit an off day but this definitely wasn’t great BBQ brisket, although the quality of the meat was fine.

I appreciated being able to get sweet potato fries but the baked macaroni and cheese had a ton of breadcrumbs on top. I like a good bread crumb topping but the amount of bread on this macaroni and cheese was overpowering. And just for reference, I’m not a picky eater at all but the brisket and the mac n’ cheese really stood out as subpar.

Other Offerings on the Pool Deck

Goofy’s Grill had the standard burgers, dogs, chicken tenders, and bratwurst. They also offered an Impossible burger and plant-based sausage. And, of course, there was endless soft-serve ice cream at Sweet Minnie’s Ice Cream. There’s always vanilla and chocolate and the other flavors are switched out periodically so that you usually hit something new. My favorite is banana.

And, pizza on board a Disney cruise is still my all-time favorite. A slice of margherita pizza from Daisy’s Pizza Pies is the best second dinner ever.

Adults Only Dining

Up until this point, all of the cruise ship dining options discussed have been things that were included in the price of your cruise and available to all passengers. The Disney Wish has two adult-only, paid dining options, Palo Steakhouse and Enchanté.

Palo Steakhouse

The Disney Wish  has Palo Steakhouse with a slightly different menu and theming than Palo on the other ships. Palo Steakhouse serves dinner and brunch on sea days. I’m a huge fan of Palo Brunch but I didn’t get the opportunity to eat at Palo during my cruise on the Wish. The cost of brunch is $45 per person* and is worth it. Even though I can’t speak specifically to Palo Steakhouse Brunch on the  Wish , I’d except it to be nothing short of spectacular based on past experience.

Dinner at Palo Steakhouse is served from a fixed-price menu. There are a variety of steaks and chops, naturally, but there are seafood and pasta options as well, all more elevated than what you’ll find in the main dining room with spectacular ocean views – I recommend dining at sunset – and you’ll have access to a sommelier and an extensive wine list with Italian wines. Palo dinner is $50.

Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement is an elegant, Beauty and the Beast -themed adult dining venue. Chef Lallement is a three Michelin-starred chef from Reims, France, who also curated the menu for Remy, the French restaurant on the Disney Dream  and Disney   Fantasy .

There’s a subtle nod to Lumiere, everyone’s most-loved candlestick, in the logo, otherwise, Enchanté is mysteriously encased behind gleaming doors in The Rose lounge on the Wish. Enchanté serves dinner, champagne brunch, and a dessert experience. The reviews and pricing indicate the experience is very similar to Remy, which means around $125 per person for dinner.

Is Disney Wish Adult Dining for Me?

There is no need to spend additional money on dining on the Disney Wish unless you want to. The food in the main dining rooms is delicious and well-presented and there are a ton of other food options around the ship. Booking a meal at Palo Steakhouse is a sound deal, compared to what you’d pay for similar quality and ambiance elsewhere, if you’re a foodie or you’re craving a special occasion celebration meal.

If Enchanté is anything like Remy, it’s for the serious foodies with an adventurous palate and not for picky eaters or anyone with extensive dietary restrictions. If this doesn’t hit close to describing you, Enchanté might feel intimidating.

Adult Dining Dress Code and Reservations

Disney cruises, in general, are pretty casual, but Enchanté and Palo adhere to a dress code. Formal or semi-formal attire is recommended. Dress casual attire with a polished look is permitted (such as dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts and blouses, and lifestyle shoes). Clothing such as T-shirts, swimwear, and sports attire is not permitted.

Try to make adult dining reservations prior to sailing. All Disney cruisers will have a booking window for onboard activities and shore excursions, which Disney calls Port Adventures. You will want to make reservations at the beginning of this window, which means 12:01 am Florida time. If you don’t get the reservation you want before your cruise, check as soon as you board the ship.

There’s a delightful Beauty and the Beast -themed space called The Rose with ocean views that sits at the entrance of Enchanté and Palo Steakhouse. You do not have to have dining reservations to order a drink at The Rose.

*All prices are subject to change.

Room Service

Most room service items on the Disney Wish  are included in the cost of your cruise. A variety of soups, salads, pizza, sandwiches, and desserts can be delivered to your room 24 hours a day. Really .

Certain items on the room service menu are not free, so make sure you’re paying attention when you order. Alcohol, canned soda, and snacks like candy and popcorn aren’t included.

One More Pro Tip: Table Service All the Way

Here’s something I always do  on a Disney Cruise . It may or may not fit your ideas of on-board dining but this is one of my best tips.

I’ve indicated that I’m not a big fan of the buffets on board Disney cruises, and it’s not that I don’t like buffets in general; it’s that there’s a better option. On embarkation day, there is one restaurant serving table service lunch. Most passengers head straight to the buffet or the pool deck when they get on board. We don’t eat breakfast the morning of our cruise, so we’re always ready to eat.

We love the table service lunch because it’s elevated and relaxing and gives us that right start to our cruise that we’ve come to love. The embarkation day table service lunch menu has been the same for the past four years on all Disney ships, including the Wish. I always order the same thing – salmon salad – and I always love it. It also gives us a look at one of the dining rooms during the daylight, which is fun for pictures.

There will be one table service restaurant open every morning of your cruise. Your dinner staff will tell you which one, but they’ll usually steer you toward the buffet. You’ll get a much better, more relaxed meal, albeit with fewer choices than the buffet, and a fun look at another dining room in the daylight.
