8 things you should know before cruising with Cunard

I recently went on my first ever Cunard cruise, there were quite a few things which surprised me about the cruise line and the cruise ships. This blog post is what I started this blog for. I came back from the Cunard cruise and just thought ‘Why did nobody tell me any of this stuff?!’

Below are 8 things which I wish I knew before cruising with Cunard.

1) You have a set meal time and a set table

Cunard is a British cruise line with a rich history and tradition, dating back to 1840. It is known for its luxurious ships, outstanding service, and elegant formal evenings. Cunard operates three ocean liners, the Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth, which offer a wide range of itineraries around the world.

Think British and formal

The Queen Mary 2 is Cunard's flagship and the only ocean liner in the world that regularly makes transatlantic crossings between New York and Southampton. It is a grand and stately ship that harks back to the golden age of ocean travel, with elegant public areas, formal dining rooms, and spacious cabins. Onboard, guests can enjoy a wide range of activities, including live entertainment, art classes, and lectures by well-known experts.

More relaxed experience on the smaller ships

The Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth are both smaller than the Queen Mary 2 but still offer a luxurious cruising experience. These ships have a more contemporary design and a relaxed, informal atmosphere, but still retain the high standards of service and cuisine that Cunard is known for. They offer a range of itineraries, from short breaks to longer voyages to destinations such as the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and the Caribbean.

Spring break cruises are available - just not in the Caribbean

Because of what Cunard does and doesn't specialize in, it was to be expected that there wouldn't be any March sailings in the Caribbean (which is what we used as a comparison point across cruise lines): they're just not operating in that part of the world at that time. Of course not: why would a cruise line with British heritage have anything to do with spring break timing in the US?! But, if you're trying to line up an amazing trip over that holiday, Cunard can be found going from Sydney to Hong Kong (16 nights), Sydney to Singapore (22 nights), Sydney to Cape Town (39 nights), or taking "short break" trips in Australia, from Hong Kong to Singapore, you get the idea.

Pack your tux or gown

One of the unique features of Cunard is its formal evenings, which are a throwback to the grandeur of the early days of ocean travel. On these evenings, guests are expected to dress up in their finest attire, with men wearing tuxedos or suits and women donning elegant gowns. The formal evenings include a special dinner, dancing, and live entertainment, and are a highlight of the Cunard experience.

Cunard is also known for its exceptional dining options. Each ship offers a range of restaurants, from traditional formal dining rooms to more casual eateries. Most dining choices are included in your fare, but the gastro-pub options at The Golden Lion will incur an extra cost. The cuisine is inspired by the destinations visited on the itinerary, with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Cunard also offers a famous afternoon tea service, which is a nod to the line's British heritage.

Luxury but not all-inclusive

Cunard is a luxury cruise line, but it's not all-inclusive. You'll have to pay for any shore excursions you choose, and your gratuities ($14.50 per person per night for Britannia and Britannia Club staterooms, $16.50 per person per night for Queens and Princess Grill suites) will be automatically added to your account. WiFi is another extra that you'll pay for, unless you reach Gold, Platinum, or Diamond World Club "frequent sailor" benefits - or if you're taking one of Cunard's exceptional World Voyages (think sailings of at least 16 nights, and ones that go up to 100+ nights and visit ports in all four continents).

Not adults-only

Also, don't expect your Cunard cruise to be child-free. Children are welcome on Cunard, and there are clubs for those young cruisers with age-specific activities offered day and night.

Wonderful cruise line but not a match for many US-based guests

For US-based vacationers looking to cruise in exotic locations around the world and have a fancy onboard experience, Cunard could be worth looking at - especially for those who love all things British and having a daily afternoon tea would be the epitome of excellence. On the other hand, if you want easy-peasy departures from US ports year-round, Cunard won't fit the bill.

Cruising is a popular way of traveling for many people, offering a unique experience that combines the convenience of a floating hotel with the excitement of visiting multiple destinations in one trip. In an average year, over fifteen million people say "all aboard" and set sail on an amazing vacation.

There are many different cruise lines to choose from, and each one offers a different type of experience. Some are geared towards families, while others are more focused on luxury or adventure. What would you like to see and do while you're onboard? Is a casino a must-have or a rather-avoid? Would a Broadway-caliber show tip the scales for you? Do you need a wide range of activities to keep the kiddos happy while the adults live it up or relax? The onboard activities and amenities can really make or break your vacation, so be sure you know what you're getting.

Another factor that can influence which cruise line you choose is the itinerary. Cruise ships travel all over the world, but some cruise lines may not have destinations available where you're hoping to go. You should also consider the size of the ship: larger ships offer more amenities, but smaller ships can access ports that bigger ships can't.

Speaking of amenities, make sure you understand what you'll get as part of your fare and which extras will come with an additional cost. For example, most cruises offer drink packages for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, but a few have drink stations where you can get complimentary lemonade, coffee and tea. Other amenities that might be important to you are Wi-Fi, spa services, babysitting, fitness classes, and upgraded dining experiences. You can usually get a decent discount if you sign up for an amenities package before you sail, so keep an eye out for promotions in the months leading up to your sailing.

When you take a cruise, it's almost always expected that you'll tip the crew members who have attended to your needs while onboard: your cabin steward ( who probably leaves your towels folded into fun shapes every night ), your servers at your nightly meals, and the head waiter. Cruise lines have a recommended gratuity to cover all three of those staff members, usually $15-$20 per traveler, per day; the total gratuity amount may be charged automatically to your account, or you may be given envelopes to make cash payments.

While it usually isn't mandatory to pay those gratuities - you can ask to have them removed if they're applied automatically, especially if you've received poor service - it's typically considered in poor taste not to tip at the suggested levels (because crew members' salaries, much like servers at your local restaurant, are based on the expectation of tips paid by guests). And, if you receive service that goes above and beyond, adding to the recommended gratuity is always appreciated. Be aware that tips for bartenders, poolside servers, and professional services provided in the spa or elsewhere are not included in the daily suggested gratuity and may be charged automatically at the time of service.

Now that you have a good overview of the cruising experience, which cruise line should you choose? Beyond the points we already covered, here are a few additional criteria that might make it easier to pick:

Embarkation port. You could get a great deal on a cruise, but what will it cost you to get to the port? That could involve airfare, an overnight stay or two in a nearby hotel (so that you're less likely to be affected by travel delays), and transportation from the airport or hotel to the port. This is especially true if you're taking a cruise that departs from an international destination.
Perks for repeat cruisers. Like frequent flyer programs on airlines, most cruise lines offer benefits the more you sail. If you find yourself absolutely loving cruise vacations, it can be advantageous to put all of your eggs in one basket, so to speak. Rewards programs can include casino benefits, complimentary meals at the upgraded dining experiences, exclusive sail-away parties with free cocktails and tchotchkes, early-access booking on future cruises, and much more.
Reputation. It's a really smart idea to see what other travelers have said about their overall experience with a cruise line before booking your trip. The ads on TV may make that private island look amazing, but someone who's been there might point out that you'll pay extra to get on that waterslide. Or, previous cruisers could tell you that despite having several formal nights on the schedule, a particular cruise line has no problem with people showing up to dinner in flip-flops and swimsuit coverups. Find out if the cruise line you're considering lines up in reality with what they advertise.

Overall Review: Our Transatlantic Crossing On Cunard’s Queen Mary 2

After 2+ years we finally embarked on an overseas vacation! My wife and I are fans of Cunard. In my opinion, the transatlantic crossing is Cunard’s signature voyage. This was our 17 th trip with Cunard. We paid our own fares, but Cunard gave me perks like a cabin upgrade within Britannia class, unlimited internet, dinner in the specialty restaurant and a spa treatment for each of us. Full disclosure is important.

Overall Score out of 100: 97 points

Covid has changed a lot. We had three Covid tests in seven days! When you enter the Britannia dining doom for breakfast and ask for a table for three (us and a guest) they ask for cabin numbers before seating you. It’s contact tracing. They can’t do the large Captain’s Welcome cocktail party. You are wearing masks indoors except when eating, drinking or relaxing in your cabin. It’s tempting to throw in 10 bonus points for coping with Covid, but evaluations need to be in uniform categories.

Boarding and disembarking. Boarding involved a Covid test at the pier. It was the nasal swab variety and you waited about 20 minutes to get a text with your results. Check in itself is speeded up because you entered your credit card information and other details online days in advance. Disembarkation was perfection. The ship docked in New York at 6:30 AM. Our group was off at 8:10 AM. We had a guest with a lower tiered disembarkation category. I simply visited the Purser’s Office, explained the situation and they handed me extra tags for our group. Score: 10/10.
Health. They did an excellent job with Covid protocols. We were tested three times. Sunday at the pier, Wednesday enroute and Saturday before arrival. As an FYI, this is a lottery you don’t want to win. About an hour after your deck is tested, an announcement is made “Will Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Janet Smith on Deck 11 please return to your cabin and call the Purser’s office immediately.” The staff wore masks 100% of the time. In a different category, the lifeboat drill is now a video in your cabin followed by you showing up at your muster station and getting your cabin keycard scanned. Score: 10/10.
Ship design. The Queen Mary 2 scores high because it’s an ocean liner, designed for long sea voyages. We encountered a Strong Gale (Force 9 on the 12-point Beaufort Scale). We don’t feel any movement up to Force 7. We felt a mild rocking in bed during Force 9. A few ago, the Winter Garden on Deck 7 was transformed into the Carinthia Lounge. It’s a big version of the Chart Room bar that’s near the Britannia Restaurant. I’ve seen about 100+ people seated in many comfortable sofa groupings, socially distanced. Score: 10/10.
Stateroom. Passenger cabins on cruise ships are like Lego blocks. They are very standardized. The obstructed view balcony cabin on deck 6 we booked was identical in size to the balcony cabin on Deck 11 we were given as an upgrade. Suites on Cunard are the larger cabins in the Princess Grill and Queens Grill categories. I visited one in each category and took pictures. That will be addressed in another article. I think about 87% of the ship is Britannia grade cabins. They have Penhaligon toiletries, Twinings tea and Godiva pillow chocolates. I don’t think we have ever been disappointed with our stateroom. Some inside cabins might be located near a crew elevator, but a good travel agent can help you choose a good location. Score: 10/10.
Shopping. There are plenty of shops and boutiques. I saw Roberto Coil and Michael Kors. There’s a Barbour outwear boutique. It’s an iconic British brand. You can buy formal wear. The duty-free liquor shop has some bargains. Tanqueray gin was $30 for two liters! In the US, liters cost $32+ before taxes. Not everything in the duty-free liquor or other shops is a good deal. Although there is a form of price guarantee, I think prices can still be high. A logoed polo shirt runs about $50. Score: 8/10.
Food. We dined in the Britannia restaurant. Friends who took two back to back earlier trips on the Queen Elizabeth felt the food has even improved since the pandemic lockdown. I was quite happy with the selections in the dining room. When I wanted more roast beef, it was brought over, no questions asked. I wanted two souffles, I got two souffles. We also had two lunches and one dinner in the Verandah Restaurant. You pay a surcharge, but it’s a step closer to what the Grill level dining rooms must be delivering. Score: 10/10.
Drinks. Expect to pay $10-12 for a glass of wine or a cocktail. Others are higher. There is a service charge added automatically. The wine list has some great deals. (I’m a wine fan.) We often ordered the Muscadet, a French wine from the Loire Valley. It was $33.00/bottle. I always order a bottle of Domaine Leflaive Macon-Verze, a white Burgundy. It was $69.00/bottle on the wine list. It retails in US stores at about $70.00. I also order a bottle of Chateau Musar, priced about $63.00. It’s about $68.00 in US stores. Score: 10/10.
Food. This is a broad category. I consider the wine and food pairing lunch I booked for $80.00 in the Verandah restaurant as entertainment. These five course lunches with eight wines are a great value. No whisky tasting this voyage, but that’s entertainment too. There were shows in the Royal Court Theater. Generally speaking, I feel the shows on stage fall short on most cruise ships. The galas on formal nights are spectacular. The lecture series always has a variety of speakers. This included a former Concorde pilot, a former NASA head and a landscape designer who exhibited at the Chelsea Flower Show. Score: 9/10.
Ports. We start off in Southampton. There is a spectacular mall, the Westquay Shopping Centre. They have many stores including Marks & Spencer, John Lewis and Waitrose. Plenty of restaurants too. Southampton has lots more to offer. New York City speaks for itself. Some consider it the center of the universe. Score: 10/10.
Staff attitude. We are Diamond level World Club members. We tip with white envelopes in addition to the automatic tipping. We try to treat everyone as equals. Staff remember us. We are treated very well, yet I think anyone who smiles and is polite will get the same treatment. I think every staff member is happy the ship is sailing again. However, I also think over the decades cabin stewards are now less visible and in more of a housekeeping role. Score: 10/10.

High Points of the Voyage

Here’s what we liked best:

Food and Italian wine pairing. It was leisurely and excellent. It took place in the Verandah Restaurant over 2+ hours. I made two new friends.
Smooth sailing. It’s the design of the ship, the course chosen and the condition of the seas. It was a good crossing.
Carinthia Lounge. The drawback to the Chart Room is its limited size. If you want a drink before dinner, it can be hard to find a seat. When they designed the Carinthia Lounge, they solved this problem.
Covid protocols. We felt safe. We felt Cunard was taking things very seriously. You might not want to be tested three times, but I intend to frame the “You tested negative” letter we found under our door on Sunday morning before we disembarked.
The Mareel Spa. I had an excellent massage. It was a Thai deep tissue massage as I requested, lasting 90 minutes. The spa is enormous! I took advantage of only one small part of their offerings.
Wine prices. They have a list with many of the world famous wine names, yet there is also a large selection of reasonably priced wines.
Pavilion pool area. We were sailing Transatlantic in March! You aren’t spending time on an outer deck unless you are bundled up. This is the pool covered with the retractable glass roof. It wasn’t ever packed with people.
Disembarkation. We docked at 6:30 AM. We walked off at 8:10 AM, found our luggage, got a porter, learned customs and were ready to get in our car and head home. Very easy.

Areas For Improvement

Not everything was perfect.

Internet problems. Cunard adopted a new pricing model. You buy access by the day or the whole voyage instead of a minute package. Friends told us they had great service on Queen Elizabeth. On the Queen Mary 2, there were big problems. You needed to make multiple attempts to connect. The connection often dropped, sometimes within a couple of minutes.
Time changes. Yes, they are listed in the daily program, but it’s in small print and you need to read carefully to determine if the time “went back an hour” last night or “will be going back an hour” early tomorrow morning. We need to go back to the piece of paper on your bed saying, “remember to set your watch back an hour before retiring.” The Navigation channel needs to have a clock. I don’t think it did.
Go back to three formal nights. This is part of Cunard’s signature. This voyage had two instead of three. It was a topic of discussion. People like them.
On stage entertainment. I’m referring to the shows on stage. They could be better.

Overall, we had a great time. I can’t wait to book our next voyage. If you like dressing up, fine dining, relaxed cocktails, insightful lectures and making new friends, you should book a transatlantic crossing on Cunard.

Sneak peek: Inside Queen Anne, Cunard's 1st new cruise ship in 13 years

It's been 13 years since Cunard Line last unveiled a new ship — an eternity in the cruise world.

But after a sneak peek Thursday at the three-ship brand's soon-to-debut fourth vessel, Queen Anne , I can confidently say it was worth the wait.

As a top executive at Cunard walked me through the still-very-much-under-construction, 3,000-passenger ship at a shipyard in Italy, I quickly grasped that it was a vessel that would usher in a new era for the line.

Queen Anne is a ship that holds true to the core of what Cunard vessels are all about — a nod to tradition and an elegance that harks back to the grand old days of ocean liner travel. But it also embraces the latest trends of travel and cruising in a way that Cunard ships haven't done before, including a new focus on choice in dining and entertainment, wellness and onboard celebrations.

In short, it's a Cunard ship unlike any Cunard ship you've ever seen, and as my guide, Cunard Brand Manager Francis Fred, explained, it's a ship that will serve as a model for changes that will soon take place across the Cunard fleet.

"What we're doing on board Queen Anne not only is going to put Queen Anne out into the future, but during refits [of other Cunard ships], a lot of the work we're doing here ... will all filter back" to the other vessels, Fred explained.

With seven months of construction to go before Queen Anne is ready to sail, there is much still unfinished on the vessel. As is typical at this stage of construction, the exterior of the ship and the framing for its interior spaces is mostly complete. But lots of finishing work remains. Many spaces were empty shells with just roughed-in wires and plumbing.

Still, the outlines of what Cunard executives hope will be a transformative vessel for the brand are already starting to take shape.

Here are the most notable new things I saw in the works after I stepped aboard Queen Anne at the Fincantieri shipyard near Venice, Italy.

Superbly designed top decks

As I saw during the sneak peek, the open-air top decks of Queen Anne are shaping up to be more spectacular than anything we've ever seen in the Cunard fleet.

For starters, the vessel's main pool area, The Pavilion, is topped with a retractable glass roof designed to be as much a showpiece as a functional structure to keep poolgoers dry on rainy days.

It was created, notably, by Martin Francis, the United Kingdom-based design wizard who figured out how to make the glass pyramid at the Louvre Museum stay up, and it soars higher and feels airier than what you usually see on ships with such roofs.

"He really helped us lift the dome up another deck in height to give it a sense of scale ... [and] increase the amount of glass we're using and reduce the amount of steel," Fred noted.

Underneath the dome, in addition to a pool, there will be three whirlpools, lounge chairs, a bar, a grill for food by the pool, a gelateria and a stage for entertainment — all of which I saw coming together.

Also, one deck up overlooking the pool (and still under the dome), there will be a juice bar and a cafe serving healthy dishes — part of a bigger wellness focus at Cunard.

It's a "something for everyone" approach that is part of Cunard's wanting to offer more options and more "activations" on its top decks.

Among other standout areas of Queen Anne's top decks will be a forward observation deck with more lounge chairs, a paddle tennis court, a putting green and table tennis, and an open-air bar with soaring views to be called the Sky Bar.

The observation deck will be more of a destination for passengers than the much smaller games decks that have occupied the top fronts of Cunard's last two ships — in part because of the inclusion of the outdoor bar, which is something Cunard traditionally hasn't built into forward deck-top areas.

Fred said the bar would serve cocktails from sunrise to sunset.

He also said the paddle tennis court in the area would double as a pickleball court, something no Cunard ship has ever had. As Fred noted, "Pickleball is taking the world by storm."

Both The Pavilion pool area and observation deck will be open to all passengers, as will a second pool area — the Panorama Pool Club — at the back of the ship. There will also be an open-air deck area toward the middle back of the ship that will be exclusive to passengers staying in top Queens Grill and Princess Grill cabins (more on that in a moment).

An observation lounge that wows

If you're already a Cunard fan, you know that the ship's forward-facing observation lounge — the Commodore Club — is a hot spot on all its ships. So you'll surely be excited to know that Cunard is really blowing things out for the Commodore Club on Queen Anne.

As I saw during the tour, it'll be by far the biggest Commodore Club on any Cunard ship, including Queen Mary 2 (which is a much bigger ship than Queen Anne).

Notable features of the Commodore Club on Queen Anne will include a curvy "bar in the round" at its back that is designed to be a place to meet new friends; a stage for live entertainment that will include band music, string instrument performers and pianists; and a seemingly endless, 270-degree wall of glass offering views of the sea.

"We're working right now on developing a martini trolley that will work the room and bring those perfect serves to you as you sit and observe the scenery," Fred noted, as he described a Commodore Club that would be like nothing you've seen before on a Cunard ship.

In addition, Queen Anne's Commodore Club will be part of a larger complex of adult venues at the top of the ship that also include the ship's cigar lounge, known as Churchill's; its library; and an expanded area for onboard weddings and other shipboard celebrations (see more on this below).

An enlarged celebrations area

The arrival of Queen Anne comes as Cunard makes a bigger push into the celebrations market — travelers looking to celebrate weddings, vow renewals and other milestones — and the ship will have a much bigger and more sophisticated celebrations area than we've seen before at the line.

During the tour, Fred took us into the still-heavily-under-construction shell of a new Admiral's Lounge that will serve as the ship's central celebration space for events like weddings.

Cunard has had Admiral's Lounges on ships before, but never one quite like this that was specifically designed for weddings. Fred showed off walls of glass that would flood it with natural light, and he said the venue would have a secret entrance at its rear for the captain of the ship to enter to officiate over weddings and vow renewals.

At the back of the room, double doors will open up onto the Boardroom, which can be booked for receptions. Just beyond that, the spaces lead to a private rooftop terrace overlooking the sea that will be the ultimate wedding and vow renewal reception venue. It's something Cunard has never had before on a ship.

"We can do up to three weddings a day, so this space will be very busy bringing people's dreams to reality," Fred said as he stood on one end of the open-air area.

Any passenger can book the private terrace for events, Fred added.

"You can have your family up here for cocktails," he said.

New wellness spaces

Cunard is leaning into the wellness trend with a new-for-the-line, glass-enclosed Wellness Studio that is just past The Pavilion Pool (it sits under the same soaring glass dome that covers that venue).

While it was far from done when we toured it, Fred described a space that will have a wood-finished wall with green plantings on one end "coming down like a cascade," sun sails crossing the air above under the glass dome and — depending on the time of day — yoga mats laid out across the floor.

The space will be used for yoga classes, Pilates, Zumba classes and line dancing classes during the day, among other things. Plus, there are plans to offer ballroom dancing classes at sunset, Fred said.

The Wellness Studio is part of an expansion of wellness areas that also includes the healthy-eats cafe and juice bar in The Pavilion area mentioned above.

The idea, in part, is to get all of the fitness classes that the line normally offers in its fitness area out of the inside of the ship and up to the top deck, where they can take place under the natural light of the outdoors and with views of the sea all around.

That said, the ship still has a good-sized fitness center and a spa with a thermal pool complex that includes eight heated loungers, four experiential showers, a reflexology footpath with textured stones flowing with hot water, a cold room (a first for Cunard), a large steam room, a Himalayan salt sauna and a traditional sauna. There's also a relaxation room and a wellness suite.

"We're offering a lot more choice. There are more experiences in the space," Fred shared.

The ultimate grills zones

If you're a Cunard regular, you know about the grills. They're the two exclusive restaurants on every Cunard ship for passengers staying in the very best suites.

On Queen Anne, the grills — the Queens Grill and Princess Grill — will come with access to what is the ultimate exclusive retreat area ever conceived for a Cunard ship. Known as the Grills Terrace, it'll be a sprawling private outdoor lounge area that stretches the width of the ship and has lots of plush lounge chairs, two stunning infinity whirlpools overlooking the sides of the vessel and waiter service for your every need.

The Grills Terrace sits just above the Queens Grill and Princess Grill restaurants, which — as was explained during the tour — will be loaded with tables for two, in a response to customer demand. That's a big change from the designs of earlier Grills on Cunard ships that often had lots of bigger tables where passengers sometimes were assigned seating with strangers.

"Across all our dining rooms [on the ship], we've increased our tables for two to cater to the increased demand," Fred explained.

An explosion of dining

Cunard has never been known for ships that offered oodles of dining options. But that's changing with Queen Anne — and in a big way.

Queen Anne will boast 15 different places where you can grab a bite, more than double the number on the line's other ships.

The options include Aji Wa, a new restaurant concept for Cunard that will serve Japanese cuisine influenced by the seasons of the year. Also new for Cunard will be Aranya, an Indian eatery.

Both are extra-charge specialty restaurants, as will be Queen Anne's high-end steakhouse, Sir Samuel's — another new concept. A fourth specialty eatery that is new for Cunard, Tramonto, will serve Mediterranean dishes.

These four specialty restaurants, which we saw under construction at the shipyard, will complement the traditional Queens Grill, Princess Grill, Britannia and Britannia Club restaurants that are the main eateries for passengers (assigned based on cabin category).

Other places to dine will include the Golden Lion pub, a mainstay of Cunard ships. On Queen Anne, it will feature a new pub menu designed by renowned chef Michel Roux. The menu eventually will be rolled out to Golden Lion pubs across the Cunard fleet.

The Golden Lion pub on Queen Anne also will be notably bigger than sister venues on other Cunard ships.

Roux is also creating an exclusive gala menu for the Queens Grill restaurant.

In addition, Queen Anne passengers will be able to eat in casual comfort at the Artisan's Food Hall, a new take on the traditional buffet eatery on Cunard ships. As Fred showed off during the tour, it'll feature active food stations instead of traditional self-serve buffet lines.

"As you move through the space, every station will be manned by a chef who on one side will have pre-portioned dishes for you to grab and go, and the other side will have all the ingredients to make a dish just for you," Fred said.

Walking through the space, Fred pointed out the foundations for a curved cooking-and-serving area that would feature an oven for making and serving fresh pizzas and bread for guests.

The Artisan's Food Hall will also be the first casual buffet eatery on a Cunard ship with its own bar, located right in the middle of the room.

And plenty that is familiar

As is typical for Cunard ships, Queen Anne will feature a soaring Grand Lobby with a cascading staircase that will make you feel like royalty as you descend into the ship's interior areas for the evening.

It'll also have a grand ballroom, a staple of Cunard ships. Called the Queens Room — as they all are — the ballroom will be a spacious venue for big-band music and ballroom dancing that evokes the golden age of ocean liner travel. Which is to say, it'll be everything Cunard fans love.

"The message to us as a brand [from customers] was, 'Do not ruin the Queens Room,'" quipped Fred.

The Queens Room may not change much. But other interior areas of the ship have been notably tweaked. Passengers will notice a lot more curves in walls and fewer straight lines, with bars often built in a circular motif, for instance. It was a deliberate change, Fred said.

"We don't want a bunch of people sitting in a straight line [at a bar] with their drink looking at a bartender and a mirror," he said. "We want people to start conversations and connect."

Bottom line

Queen Anne will usher in a new era for Cunard with a broader array of dining choices than earlier Cunard ships, more wellness offerings and a greater focus on onboard celebrations. It will also offer reimagined top-deck spaces, and interior lounging and entertainment spaces that take the brand to a new level. If you're a longtime Cunard fan — or someone eyeing your first cruise with the brand — this is a vessel you'll want to try.

I would just keep doing what you're doing, especially reading the many Cruise Critic threads on daily life on Cunard. Many of those who post on such threads are Cunard "regulars," some having sailed hundreds and hundreds of nights onboard the "Queens," and almost all having useful information and opinions.

I'm nowhere near as experienced with Cunard as most of these posters are (only two cruises, totaling 35 days), but as a fellow-American I can tell you that one of the things I like most is the international demographic, even on cruises beginning in U.S. ports. Unlike HAL and Princess, where the overwhelming majority of guests are American, on a typical Cunard cruise Americans are likely to be in the minority. Expect Brits to be the biggest nationality onboard, but also fairly sizable numbers of English-speaking Germans and others from the Continent, plus some Aussies and Japanese. I find the mix of nationalities to be very stimulating, especially for pre-dinner conversations over drinks.

You'll enjoy yourself!

Since I mentioned pre-dinner drinks, let me recommend---very strongly---the Midship Bar (sometimes referred to as the Gin and Fizz Bar) on deck three of the QE (I assume you'll be on the QE if it's an Alaska cruise). My wife and I loved it so much that on our Panama Canal cruise in 2022 we went there every single night before dinner. On the final night the bartender said we'd get a gold star for perfect attendance!

I’ll be on the June 21 sailing out of Vancouver so if you do book a trip, sign up on the Roll Call. This will be our first cruise to Alaska but have on QM2 and QE several times in both Britannia and Princess Grills levels. The experience onboard is indeed more British from an American perspective and dress more formal than most other lines. I encourage you to embrace the dress code and don’t just satisfy the minimum dress suggestions.

Down-Unders

If you have traveled on Princess and HAL like my wife and I you should like Cunard. We now have found the line we like especially if you have a problem, not that we have had many but they are unto it pronto. The ambiance, theaters, wrap around promenade deck with deck chairs in good weather, self service laundry, officers who are willing to give you their time, guest speakers, crew, shows and very interesting fellow passengers, I could go on and on, and don't forget photos of the movie stars on the Queen Mary that take us back to the classic movies of yesterday. Enjoy!

And the sense of space, calm, and serenity, even when the ship is full.

I have to disagree with @jimdee3636 . I think Alaska is the exception to Americans in the minority. I've been to Alaska twice with Cunard and there were more Americans than international travelers. However, I do agree that there will be a more varied mix than on HAL.

I am not a fan of Gin and Fizz because that's all you can get there. Despite having a variety of bitters, they couldn't make a champagne cocktail. What's up with that???? My recommendation for best bar is the Commodore Club, especially for Alaska in summer, when it will be light until late and you can enjoy the scenery while drinking your favorite cocktail. Try some of their special drinks named for past commodores. Or one of my favorite rum-based drinks, the Mary Pickford or the Honeysuckle Daiquiri.

@DCThunder , you didn't say if you've sailed to Alaska before. Cunard has their excursions posted, and some are selling out already for my July cruise. So if you do book a cruise, start looking at excursions asap. And try not to have sticker shock--Alaska is expensive.

Thanks for these points. I went ahead and booked the cruise yesterday, getting a pretty good deal from the TA that also sells tires, wine, and gallons of mayonnaise.

Now I just need to get my flights to Vancouver booked. I'm confused at how to look at flight options for Cunard Air. When I go into My Cunard with my booking #, I don't see a place where I can put in departure dates and see flights. Is this something that Cunard doesn't offer? Any guidance would be appreciated.

@3rdGenCunarder I have sailed to Alaska before (on HAL) so I'm aware that popular excursions book up early and am already looking at getting a couple booked. I try to stay away from ship excursions, but will be looking at what the ship has to offer.

Most important for us is the Library, last time on HAL Library also was great!

Yes , seems that Cunard Choice Air prices are most beneficial for those 1 way transatlantic fares.

You don't have to purchase the reserved flights until 45 prior to cruise.

Same-day late arrival protection

Ensure you will get to your cruise if flights are delayed or canceled on the day of travel (not available on Transatlantic Crossings).

I'm not worried about arrival protection as I always go a few days early, and if I do have to take an alternate route, travel insurance will cover the cost of changing. I don't want to wait until 45 days out because airfares in the summer are more likely to go up, not down as it gets closer to departure time.

Exactly. Cunard offered me flights on either American or United and the cost was over $100 more than what I booked directly with American. And on AA, I don't have to connect through ORD.

Cunard Airfares are locked in at time of booking.

You are correct for many airlines. I have found that some airlines (mostly international carriers) open up bookings as early as 1 year prior to flight.

Greetings everyone:

I have just booked my 3rd TA aboard the QM2 in June 2024!

I note on the Booking Summary the inclusion of Cunard Care at CDN $216.78 pp.

I did not agree to include this but it there.

Q - is there any value to this Cunard Care?

I do not want to cancel it if you experts believe it is worth it.

I would appreciate your assessment.

It is trip insurance. You really should have trip insurance for a cruise.

Whether Cunard Care is better or worse than other trip insurance is not for me to say. You need to do your own research and compare policies.

Check the credit card insurance offerings when you book your cruise. Some of the premium credit cards have trip cancellation insurance as part of their service. Call the credit card company to confirm everything, just don’t read the T&C’s.

One of the nice things about the Cunard forum is the way we help each other.

Yes, yes and yes.

I had to cancel two trips. Once due to a sudden accident and once to sudden illness of my travelling partner. It covered the both of us. It was an easy one page document that the Doctor signed. In fact the Doctor was surprised at how easy the insurance document was. Then i fiilled out a form online with the voyage number and booking reference, uploaded the document the Doctor signed and a cheque arrived within three weeks. Very hassle free.

Is Cunard Care expense. Perhaps. Insurance is always expensive if you don’t need it. Very cheap if you do need it.

We tried Cunard Care once. We accepted their quote but they called back shortly after to say they had quoted for the wrong cruise line and it would be twice as expensive as we were on a Cunard ship! We took the option to cancel at no cost and sort it ourselves. We are in the UK.

Is this only for crossings? or QM2?

when we booked our Med o0n QV a couple of months ago, they said we needed to get insurance that I can't remember but a minimum £££ covered.

When we asked if they did the insurance, they told us no and to go to (really bad memory and the booking is on my daughter's email) the company the recommend. We did, found it to be very good cover and very good price....

Cunard beverage package conclusions

Cunard beverage packages enable you to get drinks on board without having to pay for them individually. Indeed, because drinks are not included in the cruise fare a drinks package can represent good value for money. There are four Cunard beverage packages inlcuding:

Cunard have a range of beverage packages. These include water and soft drink packages as well as other packages that let you order beer, wine and spirits by the glass. In addition, there are wine by the bottle packages.

Guests staying in Queens Grill category rooms have a complimentary in-suite mini-bar stocked with free water, soda and two bottles of spirits. Jason Kerr – Managing Editor

The Cunard cocktail called Punch Romaine à la Carpathia.

Stateroom Water Package – US$19.50 for 6 litres

The Stateroom Water Package is the most basic Cunard beverage package. It includes six 1-litre bottles of water, delivered to your stateroom. Alternatively, you can buy single bottles for US$3.90 each.

It’s important to note that this package does not include gratuities, so a 15% service charge will be added.

Soft Drinks package – US$10.00 per person per day

The Soft Drinks Package includes unlimited draught soft drinks (Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, R Whites Lemonade, Britvic Indian Tonic Water, Soda Water), selected long-life fruit juices, squash and cordials.

You can only drink items from the Soft Drinks Package in the bars, service areas and dining venues.

It’s worth noting that this package doesn’t include items from your stateroom mini-bar, bottled water or canned/bottled soft drinks and juices. It also excludes alcoholic beverages, mocktails, smoothies and specialty coffees and teas.

Each guest older than 3-years of age in the same stateroom must buy the package, or one of the other Cunard beverage packages. Sharing is not allowed. The price of the Soft Drinks Package includes a 15% gratuity.

Premium Non-Alcoholic Package – US$29 per person per day

In addition, there is a 20% discount off the price of non-alcoholic drinks that are excluded from the package.

It’s worth noting that the package does not include large bottles of water (750ml, 1ltr and 1.5ltr), freshly squeezed juices or drinks from the stateroom mini-bar.

Each guest staying in the same stateroom must buy the package. However, the cost of the Premium Non-Alcoholic Package is inclusive of a 15% gratuity.

Beers, Wines & Spirits Package – US$69 per person per day

The Beers, Wines & Spirits Package is the only Cunard drinks package that includes alcoholic beverages by the glass. However, not all drinks are included. For instance, champagne is not included in the package. This is because only drinks priced at US$12 or less are covered. Here is an example of the current Cunard dinks price list:

Budweiser – US$6.80
Prosecco – US$8
Margarita – US$12
Aperol Spritz – US$12
Glass of champagne – US$16
Kir Royal – US$17

That said, a good range of beers, spirits, liqueurs, cocktails and wines are included. Also included are soft drinks, juices, mocktails and small bottles of mineral water, as well as specialty coffees and teas. While drinks priced over US$12 are not included, the package offers a 20% discount on beverages priced over US$12.

It’s worth noting that you can only drink items from the package in the bars, service areas and dining venues.

The package does not include large bottles of water (750ml, 1ltr and 1.5ltr), freshly squeezed deluxe juices, smoothies and any items from the stateroom mini-bar.

The price of the package includes a 15% gratuity. All adults staying in the same stateroom must purchase the package.

In addition to the range of Cunard beverage packages, there are also two different Wine By The Bottle packages.

The Captain’s Collection

The Captain’s Collection offers some of the most popular wines on the Cunard fleet, selected for their positive reviews from Cunard guests. It offers savings of up to 20% off regular wine list prices.

There are usually at least six white and six red wines in the Captain’s Collection, as well as an Italian Prosecco and a sweet wine.

6 Bottles: US$310.

12 Bottles: US$590.

At the time of writing, some of the wines included were: Château La Fleur des Graves Blanc (France), Assyrtiko/Malagousia Sillogi White (Greece), Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Berton Vineyard (Australia), Valpolicella Classico Superiore (Italy).

The Commodore’s Collection

The Commodore’s Collection has been curated by Cunard’s wine experts to represent the finest examples of the most popular styles. Indeed, the wines represent a highly regarded and diverse collection from all over the World.

There are generally six or more white and red wines in the Commodore’s Collection, as well as two sparkling wines (not champagne), a rosé and a sweet wine.

The Commodore’s Collection offers savings of up to 35% off regular wine list prices.

6 Bottles: US$395.

12 Bottles: US$725.

At the time of writing, some of the wines included were: Cloudy Bay Pelorus NV (New Zealand), Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc (France), Whispering Angel Rosé (France), La Grola Allegrini (Italy), Sandeman 10 Year Tawny (Portugal).

Insider’s tip: Cunard have an extremely large wine list. Indeed, it is like a wine bible with some exceptional vintages and great value end of bin offers. On the other hand, the Wine By The Bottle packages have a somewhat limited selection. So you might like to check the onboard wine list before deciding if this package is right for you.

It’s important to note that Cunard drinks packages are only available on voyages of 5-nights or more.

Also, you must purchase your drinks package within the first two days of your voyage and that package must be for all the remaining days of your voyage (excluding disembarkation day).

Drinks are not included in a Cunard cruise fare, so buying then individually can be expensive. That makes a Cunard beverage package a cost effective alternative.

However, it’s worth remembering that beverage packages do not cover all drinks available on board. In fact, many of the signature cocktails in venues like the Commodore’s Club are priced over US$12 and so not included.

In addition, it is important to remember that you can only buy a drinks package within the first two days of your voyage. It’s also worth noting that there is generally no discount for buying Cunard beverage packages in advance of your cruise.

Can a regular bottle of white wine which usually sells for $15-$21on land be substituted for the champaign that we get upon boarding in our cabin?

Thank you for your question. Champagne is the only wine offered on embarkation: A half bottle in Britannia Staterooms, and a full bottle in Grills Suites.

Thank you for your question. The answer is no, you may not share a drinks package between people. Even if they are in the same cabin. Indeed, each person must have their own drinks package in the same cabin.

Yes, if you purchase the Beers, Wines & Spirits Package that should be fine.

Hi Jason, my wife and I are due to join a Cunard cruise, on the Queen Elizabeth, in March. We will be in a Queens Grill Q4 Penthouse suite, and are wondering exactly what the complimentary in suite mini bar package actually includes? The Cunard website is not very clear, but note that 2 bottles of spirits seem to be included, but what about wine (apart from the bottle of Champagne on arrival)? Can one of the bottles of spirit be replaced by wine, and would this be replenished when finished? Cunard should be clearer about their included Queens Grill in suite drinks package!

In my experience Cunard are quite strict on this. When I stayed in the Queens Grill it was 2 complimentary bottles of spirits (choosen from a list supplied by your butler), as well as the complimentary bottle of champagne on arrival. Of course, this is in addition to the complimentary non-alcoholic offering.

However, some cruisers have told me that on longer voyages they have had their spirits replenished.

As for swapping out a bottle of spirits for wine, you might have to simply ask your butler. Certainly, it’s not ‘in the rules’, but they might be happy to oblige.

Technically, Champagne (as defined by the French) is only provided upon embarkation in Queens Grill staterooms. Other classes get sparkling wine instead.

Hi Jason, we are going on a 13 day cruise on the Queen Elizabeth in April, regarding Alcohol and what I can take on board will we be allowed to take non alcoholic Gordon’s Gin as I have a medication that bars Alcohol. The NHS has advised me I can drink this with no problems as it is classed as a soft drink as it is ZERO % ALCOHOL. Many Thanks Terry

In my experience you should not have a problem taking a bottle non-alcoholic beverage on board.

I believe it is 15 ALCOHOLIC drinks per 24 hours, unlimited coffee etc.

Please be aware that we are not affiliated with Cunard Line so do not have a price list for their bottles of wine. I suggest you contact Cunard directly to request a price list for bottled wines available on board.

What I enjoy with Cunard and P&O is you are allowed to to your favourite spirit onboard along with cans of coke etc.

Please can you advise if Cunard (QM2) offers an alcoholic stateroom drinks package, ie a bottle of spirit with mixers? Thank you.

According to Cunard you can only drink items from the alcohol package in the bars, service areas and dining venues. They do not have a stateroom alcohol package.

Thank you for your question. Yes, you can order wine by the glass. It is usually priced from USD8 to USD15 per glass. Ordering wine by the glass means you will not require a beverage package.

Hi there, If I bought the drinks package on day 2 of a 7 night voyage, would I get charged the drinks package for all 7 days? And if so, do they discard all of the drinks you have bought in the first 2 days and write them off via the drinks package? Or do you get charged for the drinks you bought over the first 2 days ad then get charged 5 days of drinks package? I hope this makes sense. Many thanks, Anne

Thanks for your question.

You should ideally purchase the package on day one, before buying any drinks. Drink purchased before getting the package can not be removed from your bill in lieu of the package. So, if you purchase the package on day 2 it would be charged for all the remaining days of the cruise (excluding disembarkation day). In other words, you would not be charged for a 7 day package, just 5 days.

It can be somewhat confusing, but I hope this helps.

Hi. I am going on a 5 night cruise early 2022, staying in Australian waters. I read wine packages are only offered on five night plus cruises. If I decide to purchase a drinks package on day 2 will I only pay for 4? I also read where I can take a bottle of wine with me on board. If I drink it in my room do I get charged the corkage fee. Also is it a bottle of wine per person.? Can I take my own soft drink on board? Thank you for your helpful advice.

Thanks for your question. The rule for drinks packages can be confusing. That said, a drinks package is only offered on voyages of 5 nights or more, and is available for purchase only during the first 2 days of the voyage i.e. Embarkation day and the day after. The drinks package must be purchased for all remaining days of the voyage. So if you purchase your package on day 2, you only pay for the remaining nights of your voyage.

Guests may bring one bottle of wine on board at embarkation. It is my understanding that this can be consumed in your stateroom corckage free. However, if you take it to a dining venue corkage will be applied.

You may take soft drinks on board within reasonable limits. Which I always assume means a bottle or two, but not a case full.

Thank you for your question, it is a good one. I’ve check through the Cunard Daily Programme newsletters from my most recent QE voyage (Feb 2020), but alas there was no advertised happy hour. That said, things might have changed with QEs post-pandemic return to service.

Hi, my wife and I are on QE in a Queens Grill suite around NZ in January. Regarding the mini-bar. I believe we get 2 bottles of wine or spirits included. Are these replenished as with other mini bar items?

That is a good question. In my experience it depends on the duration of your voyage. I’ve sailed short (4 day) voyages in Queens Grill and the mini-bar was not replenished. On the other hand, during longer voyages it has been refreshed. I recommend checking with you butler when you get on board.

Is it expected that you will leave a tip for the butler or the Maitre d’ in the restaurant? It seems that most things say inclusive of 15% service, and my husband therefore says not. However my sister, who is a regular traveller says yes.

Most cruise lines, including Cunard, charge in USD. Purchases are typically charged to your shipboard account and settled at the end of your voyage either by credit card or in cash.

What happens to the open bottle of spirit as part of the complimentary bar in the queens grill do you get charged if removed on disembarkation

The bottles of spirits are yours to do with as you please. You may take them ashore on disembarkation either opened or unopened.

We are on a cruise on Queen Elizabeth in January. I do not drink alcohol, but my husband does. I note that if one person in the cabin purchases a drink package, then we would be other be required to. Can we purchase an alcohol package and a non alcohol package or is ‘mix and match’ not permitted? Thanks.

In my experience you will have to purchase the same drinks package.

CUNARD have advised that each passenger may take 1 bottle of alcohol onboard each port visited by the passenger. What I find as an unethical policy by CUNARD is that CUNARD will charge the full package price for each passenger in the same cabin and that means, seeing that I am a non-drinker, it ends up costing my wife who enjoys a drink at dinner time US$140/day which I believe is a very expensive drink package. However as I understand that balcony cabins have a mini bar fridge in the room my dear wife will have to enjoy her glass of wine in her room and at the dinner table as wine can be ordered by the glass. Another gripe I have with CUNARD is that they charge a 25% surcharge when upgrading from an inside cabin to a balcony cabin.

Does the queens grill mini bar have tonic water in it to mix with the gin that we would choose as our free bottles of spirits. Can you order more bottles for your room and pay for it? So long as the price for the double G&T was under the per drink price limit the answer would be yes. Unfortunately you’ll need to wait until you get on board, but I’d be interested to hear from you on that.

Also, yes in my experience there is tonic water in the Queens Grill mini bar. If it’s missing, just ask your butler.

Whether or not the spirits in your suite are replaced mid-voyage is a moot point. In my experience, the answer is no. However, other cruisers have told me their spirits were replaced. Again, I would simply ask your partner to replace as necessary.

Hello. I’m sailing on Queen Victoria in Aug for a week. I used to go on the wonderful QE2 many times with my Dad, who passed away recently. He went so often the waiters called him by his first name. I cannot drink alcohol. I really like the non alcoholic,beers, wines gin zero etc so firstly do you stock these in the bars and restaurants please. Secondly if I was to get a drinks package which would these drinks come under as they are non alcoholic. Finally what can I bring onboard for example bottle non alcoholic wine , nonsecco or Gordon’s % gin . Thank you .

In our experiece the options are limited insofar as non-alcohol wines and gin are concerned. Indeed, we can see none on the beverage menu.

That said, they do have a small selection of non-alcoholic beers like Beck’s Blue, San Miguel Alcohol Free and Ghost Ship. Also, Cunard do offer a selection of non-alcoholic cocktails including a Virgin Mary, Rumless Mojito and Atlantic Mist made with ginger beer.

As far as we can see there is no restriction on bringing non-alcoholic beverages on board. So you may be able to bring non-alcoholic wines on with you. However, I’d recommend ringing the Cunard Call Centre in you region to confirm this before sailing.

Thank you for your question. The Cunard beer, wine and spirits drinks package only covers drinks costing USD12 or less. So cocktails priced at USD12.30 are not included in the package.

Thanks for your message. Firstly, please be clear that we are an indipendent media organisation reviewing and providing advice on luxury cruise ships. So specific questions should be directed to Cunard. That said, Cunard have partnered with Pickering’s Gin. One oz measures cost between USD7-8 so are covered by the “Beers, Wines & Spirits Package”. Campari is priced under USD12 so also included in the package.

Tonics include Cunard Small Batch, Double Dutch, Fentimans, 1724 Tonic Water and Fever-Free Indian.

Thank you for your question and your kind words. I’m sure you will enjoy your Queen’s Grill experience – I know I always have.

In my expereince there are no binoculars in the suites, so you might like to bring your own. On the other hand, your butler can serve afternoon tea in-suite.

Dining in the Queen’s Grill restaurant is included in your Queen’s Grill cruise fare. It’s is among the very best restaurants at sea. You can even order off-menu, just be sure to let the maître d know a day in advance. However, dining in speciality venues (Steakhouse at the Verandah) is not included and will cost extra.

As for diembarkation; this will depend on your preference. However, it is worth noting that Curnad do not offer in-suite breakfast on disembarkation day. Also, you must vacate your suite by 8:00am. If you indend disembarking later you may use the Grill’s lounge while you wait.

I hope this helps in your cruise planing.

Regarding wine bottles at the restaurant, Queens Grill specifically will they save it for the next meal? My wife drinks little and I dont drink a bottle at once. I know Crystal does.

Cunard's flagship Queen Mary 2 has returned to Liverpool on Friday to mark her 400th transatlantic crossing. The ship entered service in 2004 and makes regular crossings between the British Isles and New York City.

The ocean liner has stopped for an overnight call in Liverpool - the port where Cunard started passenger services between Europe and North America in 1840. Since then, Cunard ships have crossed the Atlantic every year, beginning with the paddle steamer Britannia, which departed Liverpool on 4 July 1840 bound for Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Boston.

Queen Mary 2 arrived on the Mersey earlier today and will depart at 11.59pm September 7, bound for Cobh, Ireland. Her voyage to Liverpool started in New York on August 23, when she commenced her 400th crossing of the Atlantic.

Large crowds greeted the ship as she made her way onto the Mersey off the coast of Sefton. She passed by Formby and Crosby in the Mersey before swinging in the river and berthing at the city's cruise terminal.

Your Holiday Booking homeworker Neil Smith has secured a booking worth £125,000 for an 85-night Cunard cruise for three people on Queen Victoria.

The industry veteran hailed the support of Your Holiday Booking and its parent, the Vertical Travel Group, which in turn paid tribute to his “exceptional service and expertise”.

Smith has worked in retail for 50 years, in travel for 30 years, and with the Vertical Travel Group for 26 years.

He had planned to retire after the “nightmare” of Covid but did resume selling once clients were confident to return to overseas holidays.

“The amazing Cunard booking came from a client who I have looked after for over 20 years,” he said.

“I missed out on her last cruise booking in 2023 as I was having radiotherapy for cancer.

“She had contacted the company that she used for that booking but they reported to her that the 2025 Cunard sailing from Southampton to South America was fully sold out.

“She rang me to see if I was back working and asked my advice on whether it was worth wait-listing the suite she was after.

“I knew that particular cruise could be booked from Hamburg with its own cabin allocations and I was able to secure the suite she wanted with club class flights from Heathrow and return airport-to-ship transfers.

“The customer is happy and I am obviously over the moon with such a fantastic booking.”

He continued: “There have been many changes over the last 26 years in the travel homeworking industry but I have remained loyal to the Vertical Travel Group mainly because of the brilliant people who work in the company.

“From technical support in Laindon, to the sales support team, the admin team, the commercial support and all the management team right up to our chief executive Peter Healey they have all been magnificent.

“I should also mention the amazing friendships that I have made with other homeworkers spread out all over the country – great friends for life.”

We accepted their quote but they called back shortly after to say they had quoted for the wrong cruise line and it would be twice as expensive as we were on a Cunard ship! We took the option to cancel at no cost and sort it ourselves.
