 Description

The Dirt King long travel kit was developed to drastically improve the vehicles off-road handling without compromising its day to day driving characteristics. This suspension system allows for 12” of travel and accepts up to a 37” tire. The kit is compatible with 2WD models and 4WD models along with the purchase of extended axle shafts. Our upper and lower arms are designed with 1” stainless steel uniballs for the outer pivots instead of ball joints for strength and increased articulation. The suspension system allows for bypass shocks to be added or can adapt to the factory sway bar. This kit is CAD designed, thoroughly tested, and 100% made in America resulting in a product we’re proud to put our name on!

Shocks For the best performance and to achieve the full 12” of travel you must purchase our spec built shocks or have them custom built based on our coil over spec sheet. These shocks will only work on 2WD models. For 4WD models you must use King or Fox OEM replacement coilovers with 700lb springs. Our long travel kit is also tabbed to accommodate bypass shocks.  The bypass shocks will allow for superior suspension dampening and tunability. To mount the bypasses we offer a weld on bypass shock hoop kit that can be purchased separately. The bypass shock hoop kit requires welding and modifications to the frame. The bypasses be used with both the 2WD and 4WD shocks.

Wheel Travel When shopping long travel kits many consumers tend to focus just on travel numbers. This is the reason many companies claim inaccurate numbers or don’t disclose the amount of work involved to achieve these numbers. Our goal is to build a suspension system with the highest amount of wheel travel without requiring major modifications to the vehicle or compromising its overall drivability.

Tire Info When using 37” tires with this kit modifications to the wheel well will need to be made. The firewall pinch weld will need to be folded over and front cab mount needs to be shaved to avoid contact while turning. The upper wheel well will also need to be modified to avoid contact at full bump.

Shipping & Delivery Dirt King ships their products within the United States and Internationally. Most products ship via UPS or USPS. Orders that exceed $500 require a signature confirmation. On bulk orders contact Dirt King for a freight quote. The customer is responsible for import taxes and fees on international shipments.

Damaged or Missing Parts In an instance where you receive a damaged package a claim must be made with Dirt King. The claim can be submitted by sending an email to [email protected] containing photos of the damaged packages and damaged products. The email must also include your order number as well. Do not discard any of the original packaging or try installing the products.

While every precaution is taken there could be a case where you are missing parts. If this happens please send an email to [email protected] with your order number, list of missing parts, photo of the package or packages, and a photo of the quality control tag located on the back of the box.

If the shipping carrier losses your package please contact Dirt King. A claim will be filled with the shipping carrier. Unfortunately, we do not have much control over this situation and must wait for the carrier to process the claim.

Freight Shipping The customer must contact Dirt King to arrange for freight shipping. Dirt King will palletize the order and the customer can deal directly with the freight carrier if preferred. The shipment can be delivered to a home or business. The customer must be present for the delivery to inspect and sign for the package. Before signing confirm that you received all items listed on the packing slip and nothing is damaged. If you receive damaged parts or are missing parts leave a note on the bill of landing and sign it. Make sure the driver is aware of the situation and signs your copy of the bill of landing with the noted damages or missing parts. Once you have taken possession of the package file a claim with Dirt King by sending an email to [email protected]. Please include your order number, copy of your bill of landing, and photos of the damaged items or list of missing parts. Do not discard any of the original packaging or try installing the products. Dirt King will do everything possible to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

  • Returns are only accepted within 30 days.
  • Product must have been purchased from us and not a dealer.
  • A 3% processing fee is deducted from all refunds.
  • On shipped orders   a 7% restocking fee and a  3% processing fee is deducted from all refunds.
  • Products such as bumpers, hitches, and bed cages that have optional powder coat added are subject to a 7% restocking fee and a 3% processing fee. If the order is canceled before the product is powder coated then the 7% restocking fee can be waived.
  • On shipped orders we are not responsible for return shipping or refunding the original shipping amount.
  • Parts must be returned in the original package and condition as they were sent.
  • No returns on items that have been damaged or installed.
  • Refund will be issued once the parts have been received and inspected.
  • Custom products are non refundable.
  • Crypto orders will be refunded the same coin amount that was paid originally.

Welding should always be done at a qualified and certified facility only. Suspension modifications may change the dynamics and stability characteristics of the vehicle. Ensuring prompt wheel alignment and ADAS recalibration after suspension modifications is critical and the sole responsibility of the customer.

long travel shocks/mounts in 77-79 F150/Broncos

Length of the shocks is 39" extended 23" compressed  

Are you sure you're going to be able to get the full 16" of travel out of the stock radius arm suspension? I would remove the shocks and check your travel numbers first then see if you actually NEED a shock that long. If you do, look into building shock hoops/towers to mount them. Also look into F250 shock towers (They sell them on Broncograveyard.com)  

I'm ordering the James Duff inc aftermarket arms soon to work in conjunction with these shocks. The stock arms don't flex worth a damn.  

Your right about those arms not flexing much. Thats why Im curious why your looking for a 16" travel shock, seems excessive. I have a super lift 6" kit from that truck swapped under my f150 and Id think 14" shocks would still be more then you need.

Ford shock towers from a 1996 or so F250 work great for many applications, cost around $20 each here in the states.

Unless you just have the urge to fab a set, these are what you want and are a very common setup when combined with aftermarket or extended radius arms. I ordered mine from my local Ford dealer and paid less than $30 for the set. You could always grab a set from an old 4x4 F250/350 at the junkyard as well. I believe they are the same for '96 models all the way back to the late '80s trucks.  

If you're good at fabricating, you can always extend the OEM radius arms with a JJ on one end.  

16" at the shock is a pipe dream with stock arms. Get the ford mounts and go from there. No sence if trying to fit a longer shock then you will ever use.  

I know there's not much point in doing anything with these shocks until I get the aftermarket arms, what are my options for mounting the rears though? I'm fully prepared to cut holes in the bed floor.  

I've been trying to track down cage but they appear to have gone out of business. I'll try that other one though. Thanks! Edit: just read your reply properly, I'll jump right onto them asap. Sweet looking truck BTW.  

I've found those hoops you mentioned, I'll order them after my next course. What kind of shock travel do they allow for? Also I'm still scratching my head on installed length. I'm going to be using the truck mostly for trail work but I'm not completely opposed to getting airborne occasionally, so I'm sure that has some sort of bearing on installed length.

The 1980-1996 Bronco and F-150 Extended Beam Suspension Kit is a long-travel performance suspension system. The TTBs are extended either 3″ over or 4.5″ over stock width. The wider track width from the Extended Beams allows for more wheel travel and better stability.

An impressive 17″-19″ front wheel travel, and 17″ rear wheel travel can be achieved with this kit.  These numbers will depend on your tire size and other factors. The limit straps set the maximum droop and prevent shock and axle damage when the suspension droops out.

The King Shocks 2.0 x 2″ Bump stops on each side take care of the big hitters and prevent damage when bottoming out. This 4×4 long-travel performance suspension kit will get you (or others) out of almost any situation.

We strongly recommend professional installation and setup for optimal performance and safety. Our Swing Steer kit is highly recommended when running 35″ or 37″ tires.

The Cut N’ Turned Dana 44 TTBs are available as 4.5″ or 3″ extended per side, and 4340 Chromoly Dutchman  axles for reliable performance. The two 12″ King Coil-over Remote Reservoir shocks, combined with two 12″ King 3-Tube Bypass shocks up front offer serious long-travel business.

The Deaver Q80 progressive leaf springs in the rear are paired with our Q80 Shackle Conversion Kit. The 12″ 2.5 King Shocks Remote Reservoir 3-Tube Bypass shocks control the 17 inches of rear suspension travel. The rear shocks are mounted to a W-I-Y Under-the-Bed shock mount. King Shocks 2.0 x 2″ Bump stops slow down the last 2 inches of up travel.

These hold the top of your coil spring in place. One pair includes hardware. Zinc plated for rust resistance.

Optional lower coil retainer 3 Optional lower coil retainer

You can choose either the Standard HD Lower Coil Retainers (5120) or Dual Sport Lower Coil Retainers (5121). If you are not running a Hellwig sway bar or you are using an axle other than the OEM Dana 30/44, then you'll want to select the standard lower coil retainer (5120). The Dual sport coil retainers allow you to install a Hellwig Sway Bar without any additional mounting brackets from Hellwig, when installed on a EB width D30/D44 axle, and allow you to convert the standard sway bar (5311) into a quick disconnect by selecting the proper hardware listed below.

Quick Disconnect Pins (5127) - Choose this option if you want to turn your standard (5311) swaybar into a quick disconnect sway bar. If you already have a QD Hellwig swaybar (5312) then you must purchase these pins if you are installing our Dual Sport Lower Coil retainers (5121)

If you are converting your standard Hellwig swaybar (5311) into a QD sway bar, you will need these brackets. If you are installing a QD Hellwig (5312) you do not need these.

If you are using Long Travel Radius arms on a High Pinion Dana 44 or Dana 60 then you must purchase these spacers that go in between the c-cap and head unit to accommodate for the larger axle tube of the HP44 or Dana 60 axle.

Before Purchasing:

Factory sway bars must be removed to use our Extended Travel Radius Arms. If you'd like to upgrade check out the Hellwig Swaybars . They are compatible provided your shock is mounted to the rear of the coil bucket. Is your Early Bronco equipped or are you looking to buy long tube headers? Please keep in mind we redesigned our long tube headers to work with our extended radius arms. Check out our Black Painted or Ceramic Coated headers here . If you are running another manufacturers' long tube headers we cannot guarantee fitment. If you are running factory manifolds or shorty headers there will be no fitment issues.

Fabricated out of 2" diameter, heavy-wall DOM at a whopping 5/16" thick! For strength and safety, we designed a separate cast steel head unit to mount to the C-wedges on the axle with your original C-cap or our new ones sold separately . These arms are 10 3/4" longer than a '66-'79 Bronco arm, moving the pivot point farther back. This vastly improves suspension travel & articulation but it doesn't stop there. These arms also improve handling & control for on-road & off-road driving while giving you back the tight turning radius you lost when you added larger tires.

Fabricated from all new materials; no core charges, no cutting or welding to 50-year-old cast arms. Built-in caster means better alignment and handling. A tight to the frame rear mount holds the arm with a high quality 1" bore Teflon lined and lubricated Rod End. Keeping the arm closer to the frame for improved ground clearance and break-over angle. Tons of travel, a tighter turning radius, better ground clearance and improved handling all in one product!

Includes arms, head units, rod ends, frame mounts, bushings, and all necessary mounting hardware. Bolt-on installation, but some welding is recommended. Requires at least a 2.5" suspension lift. We recommend 3.5"+ for hardcore use. C-bushings are sold separately due to vehicle variations and lift height. Built-in dual sheer shock mount for use with our new MS2020 shocks (1 per arm) or our classic 70/30 shocks that can be installed using 1 or 2 per arm. Arms pair nicely with our hoops ( standard or long travel ) or our towers .

Best results are achieved when these arms are used in conjunction with Duff suspension components. Requires reuse of original C-caps ( sold new separately ) #5341.

Please note these are heavy duty. Even though they ship ground, they come in two boxes totaling 111lbs!

A:  The James Duff Long arms provided in this kit will only work with James Duff Long Tube headers produced after 2002. If you have any other long tube headers other than these BE ADVISED that you may have a clearance issue ​ with the arm​ .

Q: What is a radius arm and why should I upgrade to the James Duff Long Arm? A: James Duff Inc. has been the leader in Bronco off-road suspension for over 20 years. Why you ask? Our Extended Long Travel radius arm matched with our long-travel suspension systems allow the Bronco to traverse over almost any terrain. Designed and manufactured by James Duff Inc. It is a tubular & plate steel design that utilizes a secondary cast steel component called a head unit to mount it to the Bronco. This two-piece design not only makes the install easier but also incorporates 4.25 degrees of added caster. When it comes to lifting Bronco front suspension, CASTER IS KING! This extended length radius arm is not only MASSIVELY stronger and offers MORE caster than the OEM design but it also allows up to 37" tires to fit w/o sacrificing the Broncos tight turning radius. This arm is a direct fit for all dana 30 & 44 axles made from '66-'79. 

Q: What axles are these arms compatible with? A: Our radius arms are designed and engineered to work the factory-equipped Dana 30 or Dana 44 front axle on the Early Bronco Platform. They will also work in the Full-Width High Pinion Dana 44 that comes installed in the '76-'79 F-150 4x4 or '78-'79 Big Bronco. If you are wanting to pair them with another axle such as a Dana 60 or Super-Duty 60 then you must ensure that the axle uses the ford style axle wedges  or you must grind off any brackets that use a different style attachment point and weld on the wedges we sell. 

Q: I ordered these but they are missing the part to bolt on the head unit to the axle!  A: Correct this kit doesn't include new c-caps. You must select that option at check out or reuse your factory-equipped C-Cap. Keep in mind we offer the optional c-cap add-on in color-matched powder coat or bare if your C-Caps are in rough shape.

I was very satisfied with the construction and all required hardware present, Installed complete over the Knuckle Heim Kit with raised Trackbar bracket, & tapered studs, along with Duff long arms, eliminated all bump steer on my 1975 with 5.5″ JB lift and 35″ MasterCraft MTs, drives straight as an arrow at 80 mph on Louisiana roads. Money well spent.

    Thats why Im curious why your looking for a 16" travel shock, seems excessive. I have a super lift 6" kit from that truck swapped under my f150 and Id think 14" shocks would still be more then you need. Ford shock towers from a 1996 or so F250 work great for many applications, cost around $20 each here in the states.
