Tom is a mascot aboard a cruise ship and is warned by the captain that Tom will be replaced if a mouse is found on board the ship. Meanwhile Jerry arrives to and sees the ship that takes him to his intended destination. As he enters the ship, he is promptly kicked out by Tom, causing the mouse to be flung off to the dock, with a coconut stuck on his head. Jerry's immediate facial expression shows that "I should teach that cat a lesson he will never forget, if I get this thing off my head." Jerry continues to board the ship unsuccessfully until boarding on the anchor of the ship. He then ties Tom's tail to a lifesaver ring and makes a fake call for help. Tom throws the ring and this results in himself being thrown off the ship.
Tom manages to get back on the ship anyhow, soaking wet and furious. Jerry then lounges on a recliner, which Tom initially mistook him for a child passenger. Eventually, Tom realized that he's the "child passenger" is actually Jerry, and rushes over to catch him, but gets trapped in-between the recliner.
As Tom chases Jerry, Jerry slips up Tom as he passes by with a bar of soap while Tom salutes a passing captain as he is thrown off the ship. Tom emerges soaking wet once again onto the stern. Tom dives into the pool after seeing Jerry dive into it, but is no match for Jerry, who drains all the water out and thus causes Tom to crash on the floor into about 10 pieces. Then Jerry dashes to the ship's funnel whistle and pulls off the boiling water on the cat's behind.
Jerry thinks he lost Tom, who then suddenly comes with a shuffleboard cue and traps Jerry by the neck. However, Tom quickly notices the captain. Fearing he might see Jerry, Tom hides Jerry behind and salutes to the captain who walks by. After that, Jerry uses the shuffleboard cue to push Tom off the ship. Tom desperately tries to get back on board but barely as he uses his cat nails to cling on the side of the boat. But he slips downward into the water whilst scratching the metal boat.
Jerry, successfully ridding Tom off the ship again walks along the edge of the deck playing his ukulele, but is attacked by Tom, who now really furious, pokes his head up, and chases Jerry, who flees into a booby-hatch, which Tom proceeds to trap him in there with a dynamite stick. Having heard no sound from inside, Tom briefly opens to check, where it is revealed that Jerry is merely standing behind the door. Jerry then kicks Tom downwards, locks Tom inside with the dynamite stick and runs off. Tom is left struggling to escape and screaming " HELP! GOD! LEMME OUT-- " before the dynamite stick immediately explodes.
Next, Jerry flees into a theater where the Tom and Jerry cartoon Texas Tom is being shown, where both Tom and Jerry temporarily stop chasing each other to watch the cartoon. As the cartoon plays, both Tom and Jerry laugh at each other's misfortunes much to each other's annoyances, resulting in Tom throwing Jerry off the ship and into the air. After reaching his highest point, a seagull catches Jerry, only to be swatted away when Jerry hits him with his ukulele. Jerry realizes that he is going to fall, but eventually lands back onto the ship on the mast, falls into a vent, and drops into a food serving tray with pancake slices and sausages, which the ship chef proceeds to serve to, unaware that Jerry had landed on it.
The captain praises Tom for keeping mice off the ship until the food is served and then much to Tom's horror, it turns out to be the tray Jerry fell into. Tom was thrown into the ship brig as his punishment and watches after some sea water splash onto his face just as Jerry surfs to the coast of Hawaii.

- During the footage scene, stock footage of Texas Tom is used, albeit with altered audio.
- Tom talks in the cartoon; he says "Help! God! Gimmie out...", this was one of the few times Tom shouts when he is trapped inside the booby-hatch.
- This is the first cartoon to take place in Hawaii.
- In Calypso Cat , Jerry gets in the ship the same way he did in this cartoon.
- Puss 'n' Boats also shares a similar premise of Jerry attempting to sneak onto a ship which Tom is guarding to keep the boat free of mice.
- The opening scene of Surf-Bored Cat homages the ending of this cartoon where the cruise ship arrives at the beaches of Hawaii. In addition, in that same short Jerry getting his head stuck inside a coconut is similar to in this short.
- Tom's sailor scout outfit has also appeared in Tom and Jerry in War of the Whiskers along with his cowboy outfit from Texas Tom , his musketeer outfit from The Two Mouseketeers , and his beach outfit from Salt Water Tabby .
- The ending tune of the short where Jerry surfs to Hawaii is "Aloha Oe". Salt Water Tabby also ends with the tune of "Aloha Oe".
- This is the first Tom and Jerry cartoon to credit the background artist in the opening credits.
- This is one of the few where Tom gets the better of Jerry for most of the cartoon until the tables turn.

Cruise Cat is a 1952 Tom and Jerry cartoon directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera .
Tom is a mascot aboard a cruise ship and is warned by the captain that he will be replaced by another mascot if he finds a mouse on board the ship. Jerry tries to board the ship, but is kicked out by Tom and squashed by a coconut. Jerry then ties a rope to board on, but is attacked by Tom, who snaps the rope, which flattens Jerry against a bollard. Jerry then tries to pole vault in through the window, but fails when Tom closes it. Jerry finally boards the ship by grabbing the anchor. Jerry ties Tom's tail to a lifebuoy ring and makes a fake call for help, causing Tom to throw the ring and fall off the ship.
Tom gets back on, and goes to grab Jerry, but is caught in Jerry's deckchair. Jerry then slips up Tom with a bar of soap to keep him away from the ship. Tom emerges again and dives into the pool after seeing Jerry dive into it, only for him not to notice that it is Jerry, who plugs the water out, causing Tom to crash onto the floor and break into pieces. Jerry then dashes to the steam machine and pulls boiling water onto Tom. Tom corners Jerry, but is forced to stop and salute the captain, allowing Jerry to do the switcher by throwing Tom off the ship again.
Jerry walks along the deck playing his ukulele, but gets attacked by Tom, who chases him. Tom throws a stick of dynamite into the ship basement, but hears nothing, then sees, that Jerry, who, while hiding in the door, kicks Tom and locks in him when he tries to get out, but fails, as the dynamite explodes. Jerry flees into a theater with Tom following him, where a flashback of " Texas Tom " is being shown. Jerry laughs at Tom, then Tom throws him off the ship and into the air. A seagull catches Jerry, who whacks him with his ukulele. When Jerry falls down, he lands onto a mast, falls into a vent and onto a food serving tray. The captain praises Tom for keeping mice away from the ship, but when the food is served, to Tom's horror, it turns out to be the tray which Jerry fell onto. Enraged, the captain throws Tom into a brig. Then some sea water splash onto Tom's face. The cat looks out of the ship through the window to see what happens and sees Jerry surfing to the coast of Hawaii.

Tom and Jerry Project: 1940-1967 Cruise Cat (1952)
It's high-seas mayhem as a cruise ship at a harbour (the S.S. Aloha) is about to set sail for Hawaii, and Tom is ordered by the captain to keep any intruding mice off the boat (otherwise he'll be kicked off himself). This is where Jerry comes in, who happily wanders onto the boat while playing a ukulele. Tom of course tries to keep him off the boat by any means necessary, but the tenacious Jerry isn't so quick so live up on his dream of a Hawaiian vacation.
Some nice backdrop art here (of San Francisco and Hawaii) and a staple of gags involving the usual stuff you'd expect to find on…
Review by Grey the Dot ★★★★½
This was already a blast and then they run into a theater where they're watching their own cartoons, and that's the sorta stuff that makes me laugh maybe even more than the violent gags.
Review by Sophie Farrell ★★★½
The 1950s were proving to be a good decade for the Tom and Jerry series, with the release of some great, and even classic, entries. Despite pretty much sticking to the same formula with most of their shorts, I admire the Tom and Jerry series for its willingness to mess about with its successful formula from time to time, be it adding a new character or, in the case of Cruise Cat, a change of scenery. Cruise Cat is an entry that I have strong memories of as it was regularly shown on TV when I was younger. It had, however, been quite some time since I had last seen Cruise Cat and felt that it was long overdue a…
Review by Edgar Cochran ✝️ ★★★
Of course I remember this one! Fun and fast-paced entertainment aboard the cruise "S.S. Aloha", until they stumble upon a cartoon theater featuring different opening titles for Texas Tom (1950) in, yes, the second official "cheater" short, but also their first meta moment at an age when I didn't fully understand the meta concept. Watching the characters watching themselves and reacting to their past experiences (assuming an interconnected Universe that assumes there is actual continuity in the series as implied by Jerry's Diary [1949]) with Jerry's invaluable laughter is golden. Too bad it's also a money-saver.
Review by Stan_Laurel ★★★★
When the Tom and Jerry cartoon you're watching now contains clips from a Tom and Jerry cartoon you watched last night.
Review by Trevor Dobbin ★★★★
For most of its run time it's a non-stop flurry of gags, which are usually the better T&J shorts, and then there's a brief interlude where Tom and Jerry stumble into a theatre and watch a minute of "Texas Tom", in one of the most meta money-savers I've ever seen.
Review by arytaco ★★★½
The series goes on a literal vacation with Cruise Cat , as the short’s setting is atop a cruise ship known as the S.S. Aloha, where the captain warns Tom that he will be replaced if a mouse is found aboard. Naturally, a ukulele-playing Jerry tries everything he can to get aboard: he attempts to go through the main entrance, before getting denied; a rope walk fails miserably, too; before hanging onto a lifting anchor finally gets him on the ship’s deck. The animators take advantage of the opportunity to utilize the settings of San Francisco and Hawaii, as the hand-drawn visuals are gorgeous to admire. Plus, the gags are accordingly related, as much of the slapstick and cartoon energy is…
Review by Yesspaz ★★★★
I like this one because it was more story-based than most that are just slapstick fests. Don't get me wrong; I love the slapstick. This one feels slower but in a good way.
Review by Double Time ★★★½
Love how Tom and Jerry aren't bothered by the fact that their lives have been recorded this whole time
Review by WolfieGrrrl ★★½
A meta episode featuring a cartoon within a cartoon. Also, Jerry slaps a bird with a ukulele.
Review by Patrik Taylor ★★★½
'Cruise Cat (1952)' is another somewhat high-concept 'Tom and Jerry' toon, one that casts the cat as a sailor tasked with keeping a cruise ship mouse-free. The short is stuffed with fun sight-gags and amusing set-pieces, all of which are incredibly visually appealing for a 1950s effort. The story is well-structured and well-paced, effortlessly escalating until it reaches a more-than-satisfying final beat. The only odd moment comes when the piece takes a turn for the meta and our two stars stop their squabble to revel in one of their previous outings, 'Texas Tom (1950)', that's being projected in an on-ship cinema. The clip shown is charming enough but you get the sense that it was only included to save the…

A brand-new nude cruise will be launching in 2025 from Miami
The trip has been marketed as ‘an an 11-day adventure back to Bare-adise’
Some of us opt to explore the world by foot , car or train , but plenty of travellers are partial to bobbing between destinations aboard a cruise. And there are loads to choose from, from pickleball or Star Trek-themed voyages to trips based around murder mysteries, Irish music or Taylor Swift .
But would you ever board a nude cruise? Well, now’s your chance. Norwegian Cruise Line have paired up with nudist travel company Bare Necessities to launch a trip described as ‘an 11-day adventure back to Bare-adise’, according to the Independent .
The cruise, which will depart from Miami on February 3, 2025 will journey around destinations including the Bahamas , St Lucia and Puerto Rico , before returning on February 14.
While that’s already a rather heavenly itinerary, the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship also has plenty on board to keep you entertained while you’re letting it all hang loose. There’s open deck space, 14 restaurants and 14 bars, a large buffet area, a casino, spa and several nightlife options.
But don’t disrobe just yet – there are a few rules to bear in mind before you wander the starboard starkers. Cruise rules apparently require passengers to be clothed during the Captain’s reception and introduction, at all times in the main and speciality dining rooms and while docked in port.
You’ve also gotta put a towel down before perching in the stateroom, pool deck, and buffet area, and you can’t be nude in front of other ships in port, and absolutely no ‘fondling or inappropriate touching’.
Totally horrified or irresistibly intrigued? Prices start at $2,000 (£1,592, €1,862) for a two-person cabin, but soar up to $33,155 (£26,400, €29,590) for a three-person ‘garden villa’. You can have a look at the Bare Necessities website here .
Did you see that there could be an underwater tunnel linking Europe and Africa by 2030 ?
Plus: A Japanese town is building a wall to block tourists from seeing a popular Mount Fuji view .

12 Best Times to Find The Hottest Cruise Deals, According to Experts
Posted: February 1, 2024 | Last updated: February 1, 2024
Timing is your secret weapon when it comes to booking a budget-friendly voyage. But forget rigid rules — the best deals are a dance of flexibility and insider knowledge.
We've untangled the mystery of cruise pricing, revealing the golden days to shop, the sweet spot before departure, and the trends that'll turn your wanderlust into reality.
So, grab your best travel credit cards and buckle up — your perfect cruise awaits.

As far in advance as possible
Booking your cruise as far in advance as possible can lead to savings as cruise lines offer good rates at the outset.
By securing your spot, you snag a sweet deal and have your pick of the best staterooms and amenities.
Note that some cruises — particularly luxury world cruises and Disney cruises — start selling tickets years in advance. If you don't pounce right away, you risk missing out.
Avoid costly repairs: Unexpected appliance breakdowns can cost $1,000s of dollars to fix.
At the very last minute
If you're flexible with your schedule and can drop everything for a last-minute advance, you might find some great cruise deals.
Cruise lines prefer to fill up every cabin, even if it means offering steep discount right before departure. That's usually 45 to 90 days before the ship leaves port.
Note that you'll likely need to be flexible with accommodations, amenities, and itineraries.
Six to 12 months before departure
If you know what cruise you want to take and it's not a luxe around-the-world adventure, experts say there's a specific window to book for savings.
"It's best to book a cruise six to 12 months out to ensure you get an optimum selection of cabin types, preferred itineraries, and special promotional rates," shared Jennifer DeLaCruz, a vice president at Carnival Cruise Lines.

Note that this applies mainly to Caribbean cruises, so the fall may be preferable if you're embarking on an Alaskan or Mediterranean voyage.
Anytime during the month
Is there a best time during the month — the beginning, middle, or end — to get the best deals on a cruise?
Not especially, as trends ebb and flow over the years. Plus, the factors that influence pricing are more about supply and demand that the time of the month.
So don't stress about the calendar too much.
Anytime during the week
Just as you may wonder about the time of the month, is there the best day of the week to book a cruise?
"I've been in this business for 28 years, and I've heard lots of theories," explained Mark Comfort, co-owner of Cruise Holidays. "I can't say there's one best day to book a cruise."
Again, pricing is much more dependent on availability.
Retire Sooner: Take this quiz to see if you can retire early
When you spot a sale
The obvious one, yet so often overlooked: don't hold back when you see a sale.
Cruise lines sometimes offer limited-time promotions, whether it's discounted fares, upgrades, or added amenities.
Because they want the boat fully booked, if they're not selling as expected, they drop the price. That translates into savings for you.
On Black Friday and Cyber Monday
Black Friday and Cyber Monday aren't just for scoring deals on electronics and clothing; they're also days when cruise lines join in the chorus of discount sales.
Keep an eye out for discounted fare, free amenities, free passage for children, drink specials, upgrades, and more.
Be sure to read the fine print before you finalize any transactions.
When your travel agent recommends it
Yes, they are still a thing. Your travel agent is your ally in the quest for the best cruise deal. They have insider knowledge about best practices, promotions, discounts, and perks.
They will also have tips and help you with any ancillary needs like lodging and transportation to and from the ship.
Just make sure your agent is reputable and has documented good reviews and experience.
9 nearly secret things to do if you fly Southwest
When your tracking app says so
Technology can be your friend in finding discounted cruise fares. Numerous apps and websites tracks cruise prices and alert you when they drop.
Example sites include Cruise Critic and Shipmate, which track fares and offer ancillary services. So, set up notifications and let the algorithms do the work for you.
When you have a large group
If you're able to get a large group of people together for a cruise, you could stand to get your ticket for a reduced price or, better yet, free.
Many cruise lines will give you cruise credit when you book a cretain number of people — often 16 people in a total of eight staterooms.
You can use it to comp your ticket or spread the savings across the group.
When you're traveling with a first responder or veteran
To thank you for service, some cruise lines offer complimentary tickets to first responders, active veterans, and law enforcement officers.
There's fine print to contend with, such as blackout dates, accommodations, and the need to travel with a paying guest.
But if you can get a free ticket in exchange for your service, that's a good time to say ahoy.
When your loyalty points add up
If you've hit a milestone when you earn travel rewards from your cruise line of choice, this might be the perfect time to book.
Most cruise lines allow you to use points for amenities and upgrades, reducing out-of-pocket expenses.
If you're lucky and make it into the highest echelon of a loyalty program, you may even qualify for a free cruise. What's better than that?
Bottom line
Navigating the ever-shifting tides of cruise pricing requires flexibility and a bit of savvy.
With smart planning and a flexible spirit, you can step up your travel game and chart your course toward unforgettable adventures.

Tom Cruise Says 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One' Is the Perfect Entry Point Into the Franchise [Exclusive]
Plus, the star reveals why he always risks his life for stunts and why you need to see 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning' in theaters.
People who have not been following Ethan Hunt’s globetrotting adventures over the six previous Mission: Impossible movies can jump right into Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One , reveals lead star Tom Cruise . During the movie’s premiere in Rome, Collider’s Steven Weintraub also had the opportunity to talk to Cruise about his death-defying stunts and how Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One was made to be enjoyed on the biggest screen possible.
Since the release of the first movie of the Mission: Impossible franchise in 1996, Ethan Hunt and his loyal crew have faced many international terrorists and power-hungry madmen who threatened to blow up the world. There’s a lot of history there, which might be intimidating for people just looking to enjoy an action-packed movie. Fortunately, Cruise tells us that Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One is the perfect entry point for newcomers, who can see the best practical action scenes they’ve ever conjured . As Cruise puts it, "They could start with this film to see and understand that this is all real, all the action is real, it’s practical. This movie is an epic adventure" He continued saying, "It’s so lush, filled with practical action and amazing locations." Cruise went on to say that the sequel has "all the things I love in movies," saying:
"[It has] submarines, it has the desert, it has Rome, beautiful locations in Abu Dhabi, Norway, a train that we built, action on the train, and a very engrossing story with a really beautiful cast, an amazing, very charismatic cast. I think when you look at this movie, it really defines what I think about cinema and why because you look at this kind of cast, you look at a brilliant ensemble cast, and the kind of story is very engrossing."

During the red carpet interview, Cruise also explained how the exhilarating action of Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One was crafted to use the most of big-screen technology, such as IMAX. Cruise has been an outspoken advocate of getting people to the cinema, and he's adamant that fans should see Dead Reckoning on the biggest screens possible. He told Collider, "I think you should see it in any major format, in any big format." The movie was filmed for a variety of stunning formats, as Cruise explains, "We have IMAX, we have Dolby Vision, you’ve got Dolby and Dolby Vision, all of these tools that we have, you have ScreenX, and we’re actually working on that version of the film right now." Cruise is determined to enhance the theatrical experience for every viewer, saying:
“It depends on what kind of experience they want with the cinema. This is made for the big screen experience, the mix is made for that. We spend a lot of time in every format to ensure that it is. We’re using every tool in the toolbox to give that experience, a massive experience for the audience.”
Tom Cruise Wants to Challenge Himself With Each New Mission: Impossible Movie
During their brief conversation, Weintraub also asked Cruise how he handles the nervousness of the cast and crew members whenever he decides to perform another mind-blowing stunt by himself. For instance, in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One , Cruise jumped from a cliff on a motorcycle . Surprisingly, though probably for the best for his own safety, Cruise doesn't even clock the nerves of those around him during his increasingly dangerous stunts because he's so focused on the task at hand. He told Collider, "[Laughs] I don’t know! I don’t gauge their nervousness. I know I’ve done some wild things, I know I’ve done some wild things. I think you probably have a better way to look at it than I do because I’m so inside of them when I’m doing it." Cruise went on to say that he's an audience member first and foremost, so he's always thinking about how things will play for the audience. He said:
"I just know what we try to do with these films, and actually all of my movies. You know, I remember as an audience member, which I am first and foremost, and as a filmmaker, I make my movies for audiences, but I like a wide range of cinema, so I’ve always wanted to challenge myself in a wide range of genres and styles to understand each one. I’d go into it and study each one as I was making it and test my abilities."
Challenging himself is also why Cruise keeps one-upping his stunts at every new Mission: Impossible installment. That means we should probably prepare for even more audacious action scenes in Mission Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part Two . In Cruise’s words: “I try to take everything that I’ve learned my entire career and put it in the next movie, and put it in the next movie, and the next movie, in terms of structure, storytelling, and character development." Cruise isn't just an actor, taking on various roles on set and working to improve on every project. He said:
"As a producer, in terms of how I produce the film, how I can better prepare my cast, my crew for the adventure that we’re embarking on. So those are the things that I think about. I’m constantly challenging myself. I’m both a student every single day, I’m constantly studying, and also a teacher because I’m constantly having to kind of work with people to go, 'This is movies for me and for us,' and to also bring their voices into our film."
Dead Reckoning Part One marks the return of our favorite spy franchise to theaters after multiple delays caused by the pandemic . Fortunately, writer and director Christopher McQuarrie began to film the eighth installment of the franchise long before the seventh movie hit theaters, which means we’ll get the two-movie story in less than a year.
Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One hits theaters on July 12, 2023 , while Mission Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part Two comes on June 28, 2024. You can watch our conversation with Cruise in the player above and check out the trailer for the film down below.

CASTLETON, Vt. — Last week, Vermont State University announced an honorary degree for a furry friend.

The announcement was made days ahead of the Vermont State University’s Castleton campus students’ graduation that took place on Saturday, according to The Associated Press.
The cat named Max has been adventuring around campus for about four years, the AP reported. Students love seeing him and some even take selfies with him.
“Max the Cat has been an affectionate member of the Castleton family for years,” the university said on Facebook .
“With a resounding purr of approval from the faculty, the Board of Trustees of the Vermont State Cat-leges has bestowed upon Max Dow the prestigious title of Doctor of Litter-ature, complete with all the catnip perks, scratching post privileges, and litter box responsibilities that come with it,” the university continued.
Max lives with his family in a house across the street from the entrance to the main campus, the AP reported.
“I was asked, ‘What’s your affiliation with the college?’ I was like, ‘My cat is the emotional support animal,’” owner Ashley Dow told WCAX . “He likes to be carried around on backpacks. Students pick him up and he crawls up on their backs.”
“I’ll pet him, give him a quick hug. He’s always super-friendly, always super-sweet. Sometimes I see him chasing small animals but that was when he was younger,” said Adsel Sparrow, a senior at Castleton, according to the news outlet.

Cruise Cat (1952) It's high-seas mayhem as a cruise ship at a harbour (the S.S. Aloha) is about to set sail for Hawaii, and Tom is ordered by the captain to keep any intruding mice off the boat (otherwise he'll be kicked off himself). This is where Jerry comes in, who happily wanders onto the boat while playing a ukulele.
The story is well-structured and well-paced, effortlessly ...
